Introduction:  What are Scratch Cards?                                  _2 _INT
*******************************************************************************

Note: This section was primarily authored by {kyattei}

Q(1.1): What are scratch cards?
A: Scratch cards are a mini game of sorts throughout the Echoes of Time world.
They can be collected from defeating monsters and from Hidden Treasure spots.
They are taken to a moogle stall in town, who will let you play them. If you
win, they can be used at any time for a **TEMPORARY** effect. They may even
award another prize upon winning. Typically, normal cards award more normal
scratch cards, or a rare scratch card. Rare scratch cards award equipment and
gems.

Q(1.2): What are the differences between each card?
A: Cards differ in many ways.  To start, each card belongs to one of 16
different series, which determines the type of game you play which you scratch
it and the artwork on the back. Furthermore, every normal card has a unique
game hint on the back in the "Hot Tip! section.  All the rare cards of a series
have the same description, but different prizes.  Finally, the solution to each
scratch card is different.

Q(1.3): What are rare scratch cards, and how can I tell if I have one or not?
A: Rare Scratch cards are sort of obvious after you finally get one - it
not-so-subtly displays "Rare Card!" right on it's name. The artwork on the card
is different, usually depicting another character from the CC universe, and the
Hot Tip! section has been replaced with a description of the picture. As for
what they are, they're... well, rarer scratch cards.  The majority of the rare
scratch cards require you to be playing in Hard mode, although there are four I
have found on normal mode.

Q(1.4): What good are rare scratch cards?
A: Rare scratch cards seem to have two main purposes so far.  The first, is
that every rare scratch card comes with a prize.  These prizes are primarily
jewels (green growth jewels in particular, which increase your stats
permanently everytime you level up), although there are a few miscellaneous
pieces of equipment you can win from cards too.  Otherwise, the rare scratch
cards also have improved effects over the normal cards of their series, such as
increased durations.

Q(1.5): Is there anything I NEED to gather scratch cards for?
A: One of the secret characters, Amenhart, can be recruited near the end of
normal mode if you have managed to acquire one of each SERIES of scratch card.
Other than that, some of the equipment you win from scratch cards is likely to
only be attainable from those cards.

Q(1.6): How many scratch cards are there?
226.  This number has been reported by Action Replay, as well as one particular
scratch card.

Q(1.7): All I keep getting are Scratch the [] Series! What am I doing wrong?!
A: Well, Scratch the [] Series are by far the most most common card when
killing monsters. If you've only been killing monsters, not checking hidden
treasures, it's fairly common to have nothing but Squares cards, and whatever
other series you've won from the squares cards. But once you start learning
hidden locations, you'll find tons of other series.

Q(1.8): How do I find these hidden treasure spots? What do I do with them?
A: Finding them should hopefully be easy, if you follow this faq. But you
can find them on your own in two ways - one, use a moogle card. This will, for
approximately one minute, make a hidden treasure spot have golden sparkles.
Be careful when using this method; since you don't know when the moogle card
runs out, it could run out just as you're about to happen upon a spot. And the
sparkle only occurs once every 3-4 seconds, enough time that you could
potentially run by a spot with it only sparkling after it's off-screen. The
other method is to move your spell cursor around - a lot. When your spell
cursor moves over a hidden treasure, a red, bladed pattern will start circling
it. Once you found a spot, cast a spell on it (not a spell-lock), and the
hidden treasure will pop right out!

Q(1.9): Are there any hidden treasure spots in quests?
A: None have been reported so far, and the locations we do know about do not
seem to appear during quests.

Q(1.10): What will I find in hidden treasure locations?
A: Scratch cards of all series, mostly. You'll find the occasional rare scratch
card, and even some Stat and elmental boosts. The locations seem to have preset
prizes.

Q(1.11): Can I get them again?
A: You can't immeadiately cast on the same spot again, but you can exit the
dungeon, re-enter, and the hidden treasure will be back again. And yes, you can
aquire the same rare cards and stat boosts more than once by visiting the same
location. By contrast, stat and element boosts hidden in chests are
once-per-playthrough only.

Q(1.12): If I mess up a card or use the prize, can I ever replace it again...?
A: Yes!  Any scratch card can be obtained infinitely by finding the same card
again.  If your current card is Missed! or you have used the special effect,
any duplicates will overwrite it, resetting it to an Unscratched state.
However, if you have won the card, but not used it, picking up the card will
do nothing.  You can still manually drop a won card and pick up the duplicate,
but if you pick up the won card again, it will overwrite the fresh card.

Q(1.13): I can't get all the cards from a location!  What's wrong?
A: First, note that you can't get all the cards in Normal Mode.  Most of the
Rare Cards, and some of the normal cards, do not seem to drop there.  While I'm
fairly sure all the cards can drop in Hard Mode, I have not confirmed this.  I
did have over 200 cards when I first went to Very Hard, and I found no new
cards except for those that came from new hidden treasure.  Also note they do
have a chance to not drop, and it is also possible that I mistyped something.

Note that this section is still somewhat under construction.

21 Series
Description: Discount at Custom Fabrications!
Normal Effect: 10% discount for 3 minutes.
Rare Effect: 20% discount for 10 minutes.
Other Notes: Can buy multiple items during discount.  Discount will round down
to nearest integer.  All prices are reverted as soon as the timer runs out; you
are not given the chance to finish shopping, even if you have already selected
the item you wish to buy and just need to select the quantity.

Numbers Series
Description: Discount at Ye Compleat Adventurer!

Cave Capers Series Series
Description: Max Out Chain Attacks
Normal Effect: Can use maximum level of chain attacks for 1 minute.
Rare Effect: Can use maximum level of chain attacks for 3 minutes.
Other Notes: Has no effect for weapons that you have innately maxed.

Magic Stack Series
Description: Magic Stacks Get a Super Boost!
Normal Effect: ???
Rare Effect: ???
Other Notes: -

Cats Series
Normal Description: Do a Quest for Half the Price
Normal Effect: ???
Rare Description: Do a Quest for FREE!
Rare Effect: ???
Other Notes: -

Elemental Series
Description: Characters and Equipment get Experience Boost
Normal Effect: ???
Rare Effect: ???
Other Notes: I'm not entirely sure how much of an effect this is.  I did not
notice much of a difference leveling a second character in Very Hard 1.

Follow the Trail Series
Description: Critical Hits Get Easier, More Powerful
Normal Effect: ???
Rare Effect: ???
Other Notes: The critical hit boost from this does not make them much more
common.  The increase in power is noticeable, but is still not particularly
much.  The normal critical hit multiplier seems to be around 1.5x normal
damage.  The multiplier for the cards is probably around 1.75x, maybe higher
for the rare card.  I'll attempt to do more research with more consistant
damage later.

Chocobo Series
Description: Status Ailment Immunity!
Normal Effect: Immunity to Status Ailments for 30 seconds.
Rare Effect: Immunity to Status Ailments for 60 seconds.
Other Notes: -

Building Block Series
Description: Stomp Allies or Wall-Slam Monsters for Items
Normal Effect: Enemies drop items every hit against walls for ?? seconds.
Rare Effect: ???
Other Notes: This is a farming card.  While it is in effect, pick up the any
monster you need something from, find any wall (anything you can run against,
such as a step, tombstone, wall, invisible wall...) and mash your (A) button.
Everytime you hit the enemy, it will drop one of its material drops (such as
bones from skeletons).  Note that the items dropped from this card disappear
MUCH FASTER than normally dropped items, and your enemies will eventually hit
you, making you drop them and more than likely knocking you over.  A friend can
cast blizzard on them to make them easier to hold for a while, but magic immune
monsters greatly dislike being held...

Scratch the [] Series
Description: Everyone Can Double-Jump!
Normal Effect: Any character can double-jump for 1 minute.
Rare Effect: Any character can double-jump for 3 minutes.
Other Notes: Unknown if this has any effects at all for Selkies.

Clavat Series
Description: Clavat Consideration!
Normal Effect: Special border when a Clavat is dancing for 30 seconds.
Rare Effect: Special border when a Clavat is dancing for 60 seconds.
Other Notes: Unsure if there are any other effects for this card.

Yuke Series
Description: Yukes Are Dukes!
Normal Effect: Special border when a Yuke is dancing for 30 seconds.
Rare Effect: Special border when a Yuke is dancing for 60 seconds.
Other Notes: Unsure if there are any other effects for this card.

Selkie Series
Description: Sale for Selkies!
Normal Effect: Special border when a Selkie is dancing for 30 seconds.
Rare Effect: Special border when a Selkie is dancing for 60 seconds.
Other Notes: Unsure if there are any other effects for this card.

Lilty Series
Description: Lucky Lilties!
Normal Effect: Special border when a Lilty is dancing for 30 seconds.
Rare Effect: Special border when a Lilty is dancing for 60 seconds.
Other Notes: Unsure if there are any other effects for this card.

Moogle Series
Description: Find Hidden Treasure Easily
Normal Effect: Find Hidden Treasure for 1 minute.
Rare Effect: Find Hidden Treasure for 3 minutes.
Other Notes: This causes all hidden treasure locations to light up every few
seconds.  This uses the same yellow-flashy graphic that appears whenever you
uncover a hidden treasure spot by casting a spell on it.  Use this card to find
hidden treasure spots on your own, or if the description for a particular
location is not precise enough for you to pin-point it.  Remember that the
graphic does appear infrequently enough for you to run past a hidden treasure
without it showing.

Pedestal Series
Description: Constantly Recover HP and MP.
Normal Effect: Restores 10% of max MP and HP every 10 seconds for 1 minute.
Rare Effect: Restores 10% of max MP and HP every 10 seconds for 3 minute.
Other Notes: -

Scratch Card Locations                                                  _4 _LOC
*******************************************************************************

This section is divided into several sections based on the area in the game (as
accessed from the world map).

Each location is then broken down by a short description of the room, a
sequential room number, and and then the location.  While the descriptions will
be as accurate as possible, you may have to search slightly to find the exact
location.  Also note that the room numbers assume you are going through the
level with no detours.  If the same room must be entered multiple times, it is
counted multiple times.

In the Drops section, a link to the complete card description is included, as
well as any prize information.  If the prize is another card, it will be noted
on an additional line, indented

on the highest level that was flooded, there are two segments of the floor that
appear very different from the rest.  The lower of these two looks like a

top of the switch from the high ground near the exit, or hug the wall with your
target ring until it is high enough, then pull it off so it hits the switch on
the way down.  Note that your ring does NOT stay on the switch - it will fall
through it, so release it as soon as you see the red treasure indicators.

switch platform, it rises so that you can push the block over the bridge of
snow and hit another switch.  The treasure is located on the north side of the
bridge, approximately where you will drop the block.  It is most easily seen if

River Belle, Second Room (Room 2)                                         _LRI3

When you reach the second purple pad, follow the path south and west of it.
Just north of the bottom of the ramp/steps is a square you can cast on for a
hidden treasure.

Drops:
[C212] Moogle Series

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
River Belle, Second Room (Room 2)                                         _LRI4

This one's a bit trickier, primarily because it's over the water.  Almost
directly south of the moogle, along the wall, there's a scratch card location.
There are a few good ways to get it.  First, from the western purple pad,
navigate your spell ring all the way across the water and hug the wall until it
reaches the correct height.  Second, do roughly the same thing but from the
ledge near the eastern purple pad.  Third, carry a CHARGED POT (the charged
ones float!) over to the wall, toss it under the location, and stand on it to
cast your spell.

[C210] Moogle Series

River Belle, Second Room (Room 2)                                         _LRI5

Just north of the western purple pad, you'll be attacked by two Adamantoise.
Kill the northern one for a chance at these cards.  He can drop all of them at
once, but you'll probably have to kill him several times.

Drops:
[C120] Clavat Series
[C138] Yuke Series
[C158] Selkie Series (Prize: Selkie Series)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
River Belle, Boss Room (Room 3)                                           _LRI6

Yes, the Boss Room.  There is a hidden alcove behind the waterfall in the back
of the room.  It's also rather high up.  You can always do some crazy item
stacking, or gather enough friends to get high enough, but all you really need
is the magic pot and the crab.  Remember that charged magic pots float on
water... so charge the pot and carry it over to the base of the waterfall.
Throw the pot down and stand a bit to either side of it.  Ideally, the crab
will jump over to you.  If not, just stall until he gets close enough.  If he
takes too long, you'll need to recharge the pot, or grab another if it runs out
and sinks.  Once he's close enough, jump on the pot, then jump on him.  Once on
top, jump onto his helmet; if you are only on his back, he'll knock you off.
Once there, just wait for him to jump.  As jumping is his "get off me" move,
he'll usually do it in one or two attacks.  Anyway, now that you have the
required height, just jump into the room behind the waterfall and search the
back for the hidden treasure.  Note he CAN jump up there with you!

Cave Capers Series                                                        _CCAV
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Cave Capers Series will present you with an 8x4 grid of squares, like so:
 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
|S|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|G|

To win, you must create a line of boxes that reaches from Start (S) to Goal
(G).  You do not have to do this sequentially; just start scratching.  You lose
if you scratch off a lizard.  If you scratch a rock, you just can't use that
square to get across, and have to find another route.  For simplicity, I am
currently only listing the squares YOU DO NOT WANT TO SCRATCH (those with
lizards).  Squares are referenced first by column number, then by row number.
For example, the Goal is at (8, 4).

Magic Stack Series                                                        _CMAG
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Magic Stack Series cards look somewhat like this:

(_)  (_)  (_)  (_)
  (_)  (_)  (_)
(_)  (_)  (_)  (_)

Yes, that's very rough.  In reality, they bob slightly up and down, but not by
too much.  Anyway, behind each scratch circle is a piece of magicite
representing your six basic types of magic.  To win, you must scratch off the
magicite required to cast the spell listed on the card.  You lose if you
scratch ANY magicite you do not need.

Note that I use Top, Middle, and Bottom to indicate the row on the card, and
Left, Center, and Right to clarify from there.

Cats Series                                                               _CCAT
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Cats Series is setup similar to the magic stack series, like so:

(_)  (_)  (_)  (_)
  (_)  (_)  (_)
(_)  (_)  (_)  (_)

To play, you scratch off four spaces.  If you manage to scratch off four cats
of the same color (black or white), you win.  If you scratch any colors that
are different than the spaces you currently have scratched off, you lose.

Again, vertical differences are noted by Top, Middle, and Bottom, while
horizontal is noted by Left, Center, and Right.

up to three colors (four on the rare cards), and you can pick a color that
is impossible to win with.

Follow the Trail Series                                                   _CFOL
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Follow the Trail is setup similarly to Cave Capers:
 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|
|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|

Each square starts covered except for a starting square with feet marks on it,
and any exit portals that the card may have.  To play, just scratch whichever
square the feet are currently facing repeatedly.  If you reach an entrance
portal, continue at the square above the exit portal.  If you reach a question
mark, pick any adjacent square.  If you hit an "X", you lose.

The solutions to these are presented as the combination of choices you must
make at the question marks, in order.

Chocobo Series                                                            _CCHO
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Chocobo Series also uses the 4-3-4 layout:

(_)  (_)  (_)  (_)
  (_)  (_)  (_)
(_)  (_)  (_)  (_)

It's much like the magic stack series, except the combination stays constant
and you always need four circles to win.  Scratch any circle you don't need and
you lose.  This time, you need to scratch circles that contain the letters
"Ch", "o", "co", and "bo" (Chocobo) to win.

The first group has a blue block with a white circle in it on top, the second
has a green block with a missing triangle, and the third has an orange square
with a missing square.  Your job is to scratch a matching shape that fills in
the block for each square of 4.  Scratch any incorrect shape and you fail.

Scratching instructions are for each set of 4 circles, going from left to

Scratch the [] Series                                                     _CSCR
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Scratch the [] Series card presents you with triangles, squares, and circles
arranged in four rows and ten columns.  You are tasked with scratching all of
the squares, and ONLY the squares.  You lose if you scratch a non-square, OR
you take longer than 20 seconds.

As this is primarily a timed task, and the solution is readily viewable, I'm
not listing the position of every square on these cards.

The 3x4 setup again...

(_) (_)|(_) (_)|(_) (_)
(_) (_)|(_) (_)|(_) (_)

Each box has a monster at the top.  Each circle hides a piece of magicite.
To win, you must scratch the piece of magicite that is most effective against
that box's monster.  The monsters are (left to right) a Fire Bomb, an Ice Mu,
and a Bat, meaning you have to scratch a blue magicite, a red magicite, and...
whichever healing type magicite currently appears in the third box, light blue,
green, or orange.  Don't ask me how healing magic does more damage than...
damage magic...

Lilty Series                                                              _CLIL
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To change things up slightly, we have a 2-by-4 setup.

(_) (_)     (_) (_)
(_) (_)     (_) (_)

And to go along with this change of pace, there's some actual logic that can be
applied when scratching a Lilty Series.  The goal is to scratch one unbroken
spear for each side.  When you scratch a spear, it usually will have one that's
broken, and one that's not, indicating which adjacent circle to scratch.  Yeah,
you can always scratch a space with TWO broken spears, but usually you'll at
least have one that lets you make an educated guess.

For simplicity, the solutions here all imply that you'll scratch both circles
in the listed direction.

win.  Second, you have three chances.  Not even Scratch the []'s is so
forgiving.
