1. Introduction
###############################################################################
Thank you for choosing to read my Crystal Monsters FAQ. I hope this guide
gives you some assistance in completing this game. I've written a Walkthrough,
Game Overview, and much more. Beware of the spoilers, though.
Crystal Monsters, originally released in Japan in 2008 as Monster Chronicle
for mobile phones, is a role-playing video game developed by Gameloft for
DSiWare. A hybrid of Pokemon and Dragon Warrior Monsters, Crystal Monsters can
be downloaded from the DSi Shop for 500 DSi Points or the 3DS eShop for €4.99.
The game takes place in a fictional world called Earth. There are two kinds of
people in this world: those who can see monsters (called Neo-Seeds) and those
who can't (Pure-Breeds). This game features a total of 9 towns, along with
different terrains, such as routes, dungeons, etc. You discover that you're a
Neo-Seed and soon find yourself embarking on a quest throughout the Earth to
find out why Final Monsters (the bosses of all monsters) have become very
aggressive and stop Pure-Faction, a political party that wants to segregate
Neo-Seeds from Pure-Breeds but also has a hidden agenda.
The story and characters are quite cliche and odd, but the game gets somewhat
better later on (I actually preferred this game over Pokemon Black). One of
those "so bad, it's good" type games. It's not bad for €5. Shame the sequel
wasn't released outside of Japan.

3.03 - Monsters
===============================================================================
The gameplay of Crystal Monsters involves the capture and training of a variety
of creatures called monsters. Monsters can learn up to 4 moves called skills.
Just like in Pokemon, monsters are able to gain EXP and level up after battles,
making them stronger.
Trained monsters are stronger than wild ones. For example, if you raise a LV1
Sedisonic to LV32, it will have higher stats than a wild one of the same level
found in Mountain Ledge.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Types
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
There are 9 types of monsters: Animal, Fire, Water, Plant, Wind, Rock, Spirit,
Dark, and Light. Similar to Pokemon, you can inflict more damage by attacking
with a skill that has the specific type which a monster is vulnerable to.
Skills that are weak against certain types of monsters will have little effect.
Since the game doesn't tell you if your attack skills are super effective or
not very effective, it's important to know the following points:
*Animal-type skills work well on most types of monsters including their own
type, but aren't very effective against Spirit-type monsters.
*Plant-type skills are super effective against Rock-type monsters.
*Light and Dark-types are super effective against each other.
*Wind-type skills are super effective against Plant-type monsters.
*Plant-type monsters are resistant to Light-type skills.
*Rock-type skills are super effective against Fire-type monsters.
*Fire and Plant-type skills are super effective against Water-type monsters.
*Rock and Fire-type skills are super effective against Wind-type monsters.
*Wind-type skills are super effective against Spirit-type monsters.
Some of these type matchups make little sense (Fire being good against Water,
for example). And I thought the first generation of Pokemon had game balance
issues.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Capturing Monsters
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Essence Cores of each monster type (similar to Pokemon's Poke Ball) are used to
capture specific wild monsters, though they may break free at times. You can't
capture a trainer's monster, boss or mid-boss.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Evolution
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Evolution Stones can be used to evolve most monsters. Upon evolving, monsters
learn additional skills and gain higher stats. There are two stages of
evolution: Plus and Mega. They can occur after a monster reaches a certain
level (LV10+ for Plus and LV26+ for Mega).
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Breeding
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Monsters can be bred by Clint in Herbage. Breeding requires one male and one
female monster (Note: The parent monsters disappear after breeding). Breeding
makes the game much easier, as the child can inherit stats and skills from
his/her parents (similar to Dragon Warrior Monsters). For example, a Kiticon
that was created through breeding a female LV40 Felistrype and male LV10
Batocurse will have much higher stats and more skills than a monster found in
the wild. Breeding is also the only way to acquire certain monsters such as
the starters.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
X-Form
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
After obtaining the X-Form stone, you can take photos and combine them with
your team monsters. This supposedly improves the stats of these monsters, but
I didn't notice any difference. X-Form can be removed or added by accessing
the Team sub-menu.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Condition Aliments
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Your team can be inflicted by condition aliments during battles. They cannot
drop a monster's HP to 0, and they are automatically cured once a battle ends.
Poison
------
Drains your HP for a while. Use an antidote to cure this condition.
Paralysis
---------
Immobilises you for a while. Use cure paralysis to cure this condition.
Sleep
-----
Causes you to sleep for a while. Decreases your defence. Use an alarm to cure
this condition.
Concussion
----------
Causes you to skip your next turn.
Burn
----
Drains your HP for a while. The damage is more severe than poison. Use an
extinguishing spray to cure this condition.
Chilling
--------
Causes the speed of your chain dial to become slower. Use chill powder to cure
this condition.
Dazzle
------
Drains your SP. Use eye drops to cure this condition.
Fear
----
Drains your SP and decreases your attack. Use medicine of courage to cure this
condition.
Possessed
---------
Inflicts damage on all your team members. Use a talisman to cure this
condition.
===============================================================================
3.04 - Game Screen
===============================================================================
This section gives information about the Game Screen.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Field Screen
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
In this screen, you can move around and explore the world of Crystal Monsters.
The top screen shows a mini-map with your current location and objective. A
red dot indicates the next destination while your position is displayed with an
avatar.
Most of the battles you'll face will be random encounters with wild monsters,
as there is a low number of trainers, bosses and mid-bosses in this game. Wild
monsters can be found in routes, dungeons, sidequests, etc. There are 3 levels
of rarity: Common, Rare and Super Rare. For example, Sedisonic is Super Rare
in Dungeon. The encounter rate is inconsistent, though, as monsters may appear
often or pop up only rarely.
You can use save crystals to save game progress and restore your team's HP/SP.
There are a lot of these in the world.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Battle Screen
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
This game uses a turn-based system. When you encounter a wild monster or
challenge a trainer, the screen changes to a battle scene with the opposing
monsters and an option menu. You may have up to 3 monsters on your team. You
can attack, pass to the next monster on the team, use an item or flee the
fight. The Flee option won't work, though, if a) You're in a battle with
trainers, bosses or mid-bosses. b) Your monsters are weaker than the enemies.
To attack, touch the appropriate icons and then touch the chain dial. You can
also use the +Control Pad to navigate and press A to attack. If you attack
when the cursor is in the yellow zone, you will be able to chain up to 3
attacks (similar to Sonic Chronicles' POW moves). Each monster can attack once
per turn. Unlike Pokemon, this game shows the actual damage numbers for every
attack that hits in battle.
To defend, use the +Control Pad or touch the directional icon when prompted,
before the timer bar runs out. You can guard against an enemy attack that
affects a single team member, but you can't guard against an attack that is
directed at everyone in your team.
To capture a monster in battle, use an Essence Core of that monster's type and
press A repeatedly to increase your percentage chances of capturing it.
Getting up to 50% is usually enough to catch a monster. The less HP the
monster has, the greater your chances. The higher the level of your monster,
the more easier it will be to capture (eg. my LV30 Tadpolaris will make
catching a LV22 Tweetmare Plus much easier). If it's captured, it will be put
in storage.
If one of your team members faints, it will be removed from the team and put in
storage. In battles with trainers, mid-bosses or bosses, you'll lose and get a
Game Over if you have no usable monsters left on your team. However, in
fights with random wild monsters, if you have other monsters left in storage,
the strongest one will be added to your team and you won't get a Game Over.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Breeder's Office
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
There is a Breeder's Office located in most places, where you can buy
items, do side quests and use the Jump Service. The following services are
available in the Breeder's Office:
Shop
----
You can buy items such as Heal Medicine, Essence Cores and Evolution Stones.
You can't buy more than 1 quantity of an item at a time, though. G (currency)
is required to do so. You can get G by winning battles, doing specific side
quests or selling pictures of monsters.
Jump Service
------------
You can teleport to the various places that you have already visited as long as
they have a Breeder's Office.
Side Quests
-----------
You can do a variety of specific side quests in each Breeder's Office.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Info Menu
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
This menu is accessed by touching the bottom-left of the Touch Screen. It is
accessible only on the Field Screen. There are 4 options to choose from.
Items
-----
Displays the list of items in your bag. Up to 50 items can be stored. All
items are stored in the appropriate pocket and multiple quantities of an item
are counted as seperate. Each pocket has space for only a set amount of items,
so if a pocket becomes full, you won't be able to buy or pick up new items for
that pocket unless you dump some old ones.
Team
----
Shows a list of the captured monsters in storage on the Touch Screen and the
current team on the top screen, along with monster stats. Unlike in Pokemon,
you can deposit or withdraw monsters at anytime. From here, monsters may be
evolved or X-formed. Up to 20 monsters can be stored. You can release or
breed old ones if you want to capture new monsters.
Encylopedia
-----------
Displays a monster directory (similar to Pokemon's Pokedex) that gives
information regarding the various species of monsters. Whenever you defeat a
monster, its category, weight, size, and a short description will be added to
your Encylopedia.
Side Quests
-----------
The status and description of your current side quest is shown here. If it's a
timed side quest, a timer will also be displayed. You can also quit side
quests from here.

3.05 - Hints and Tips
===============================================================================
This section lists hints and tips that should give you some assistance in
progressing through the game.
*I advise saving your game often. This game doesn't automatically save your
progress, so you must save to record it. Note that some save crystals are
located just before a boss or mid-boss, so I recommend always using them in
case you get a Game Over.
*If you want to capture monsters, your best bet is to catch ones that are 4-9
levels weaker than your team, as high-level monsters that are around the same
level as yours are nearly impossible to catch.
*In double/triple battles, I advise concentrating on one enemy monster at a
time, as some monsters can use healing skills. Also, the less monsters still
alive the less attacks you'll sustain each turn. The attacks designed for use
against multiple enemies (Fire Wave, Whirlwind, Split Laser, etc.) are handy
for weakening other monsters at the same time.
*If you want to capture a specific monster, make sure you have a few Essence
Cores of that monster's type so you'll be able to catch it.
*Although there is a wide variety of medicine, curative and booster items, heal
medicines, heal light and SP drinks are sufficient, as the others are too
situational. If you're low on money, you can get a lot of healing items while
doing Dicot's red core sidequest repeatedly, as the items will always
replenish themselves. Also, you'll get 400G as a reward for finding the red
core each time (it's near a lake in the last area).
*I advise training your team often so that they're at a similar level to enemy
monsters. These enemies will be easier to defeat if you've trained hard
enough. If the monsters in an area are too strong, you can go back to a
previous area and train there.
*Bosses have high HP and can attack all your team members at once with powerful
attack/condition aliment skills. However, as long as you use healing skills
or items to restore your team's health, you should be able to chip away at
their HP slowly but surely. If a boss uses healing skills often, the battle
may be much longer, but you should win eventually.
*Plant-type monsters are difficult to use, as they're weak against Wind
monsters (a common monster type early on), though they are strong against
Rock and Water types (common monster types later in the game).
*I advise using a Fire-type monster (eg. Kiticon, Katasuya or Emberival), as
they are strong against Wind and Water monsters and can learn decent healing/
attack skills.
*I advise using a Windycrest, Rarogi or Bombreeze because they have high SD and
can use decent healing/attack skills.
*I advise using a Sedisonic, as it has high HP/AT, though it normally can only
use two attack skills (Kick and Heavy Knuckle) without breeding.
*I recommend using a Tadpolaris, Tweetmare or Platipeeve, as they can learn
decent healing/attack skills and have high SP. They don't have any type
advantage, but can do neutral damage to most types.
*If you want to train a weak monster faster, add it to your team and get into
fights with high-level wild monsters. As long as your two other team members
can finish off the enemies soon enough, the weak monster will receive EXP,
even though its attacks probably didn't do much damage.
*I advise not using defensive skills or tab items, as they have no effect.
This makes enemies that use defensive skills often easier to take out, though.
*I recommend using a Bronstarter, as it has high DF and decent AT, so it works
well as a tank.
*I recommend using a Taurpedo, as it has high AT and can learn decent healing/
attack skills.
*Be wary of trapping skills (eg. Chilling Breath), as they can prevent you from
attacking or using items and cost you a turn.
*Animal-type skills are game-breaking, as they are only weak to Spirit-types
and work well against most types of monsters including their own type.
*If you do chain attacks right, they can inflict more damage than high SP
skills, so it's worth it to keep using them even towards the end of the game.
*Be wary of Spirit-type skills (eg. Life Steal), as they can zap your HP.

4. Walkthrough
###############################################################################
If you want to start a new game, select New Game. If you want to continue a
game, select Continue. At first, Dicot is the only place accessible, but as
you progress through the game, you'll discover new places.
===============================================================================
4.01 - Up to Tournament
===============================================================================
Once the opening movie ends, you'll start the game on a volcanic mountain.
After naming your character, go over to Bishop. You are given a choice of one
of 3 different starter monsters. You can choose a Fire-type (Kiticon), Water-
type (Tadpolaris) or Plant-type (Flowerpower).
STARTER ANALYSIS
----------------
Tadpolaris is the best, as it can learn decent healing skills and has high SP.
It doesn't have any type advantage, but it can do neutral damage to most types.
Kiticon is decent, since it can learn strong attack skills and is strong
against Wind and Water-type monsters. Flowerpower is a difficult starter to
use, as it's weak against Wind-types, though it's strong against Rock and Water
types.
They each start with an Animal-type attack skill (Bite) that works well on most
types of monsters including its own type.
If you want an easy game, choose Tadpolaris. If you want a normal game, pick
Kiticon. If you want a hard game, choose Flowerpower. I chose Tadpolaris.
Whatever choice you make, you can get the other two through breeding later on.
[End of analysis]
Then, do the battle tutorial with Bishop. Your LV15-17 starter monster faces
off against the starter that it's strong against it. Next, enter the cave and
a monster will defeat your starter (it doesn't matter this time, though).
You wake up in school and realise it was all a dream. Find Bishop outside.
Confront Rudiger at the Ruins and press A repeatedly to get Bishop's Essence
Core back. For some reason, you receive the same starter monster that you
chose in your dream, albeit at LV2.
On your way out of the Ruins, Griffin tells you how to use heal medicine. Go
back to Dicot and talk to Honeywell. She gives you 1 Essence Core of each type
of monster.
When you enter Forest Road, Honeywell will teach you how to catch a random
monster from Forest Road (I got a Spirispear). Capturing this monster is easy,
but other ones will be much harder to catch. Honeywell also gives you an
X-Form stone and tells you how to X-Form monsters (I X-Formed my starter, but I
removed its X-Form shortly afterwards, as the picture made the starter look
terrible). I recommend capturing another monster soon enough so you'll have 3
team members, as you'll be facing a lot of double/triple battles from now on (I
caught a Sedisonic in Dungeon). Go through Forest Road, Ruins and Dungeon to
rescue Winston and his sister Tina. At the end of Dungeon, defeat a LV10
Windycrest that has Winston cornered.
A LV10 Windycrest is a big difficulty spike, especially if you chose
Flowerpower as your starter, as it's likely much stronger and faster than all
your team members at this point in the game. If your team are LV4-5, it
shouldn't give you too much trouble, though. Also, Kiticon has a type
advantage over it and Tadpolaris can at least do neutral damage to it. This
boss is quite overleveled for this point. By comparison, the wild monsters in
Dungeon are just LV1. It can take out all your team if you're not prepared.
Thankfully, later bosses are nowhere near as high-leveled over you.
Now, visit the Mayor's Office in Dicot's Town Centre and speak with the Mayor.
He gives you a participation certificate for the tournament. Talk to the
secretary to be taken to the train. On the train, head left to receive an
Evolution Stone from Connor that corresponds with your team leader's type.
I advise using it to evolve your starter (I used it to evolve my Tadpolaris
into its Plus form). The train then arrives in Timber City.
In Timber, speak with the guard to enter the central building. Make your way
through the Holographic Cave. Then, talk to the officer in the 2nd Breeder's
Office to proceed to the next round.
Beat 1 trainer on each of the four floors to reach the roof. On Level 1, a
male trainer has two LV6 Quacole. On Level 2, a male has three LV6 Evilseed.
On Level 3, a female has a LV9 Horstie. On Level 4, a male has a LV8 Robomean
and Sedisonic. In the 3rd Breeder's Office, if you want to leave for some
reason, go left. Head north if you're ready for the finals. Defeat Blake and
his crony Drake in the Fight Ring (Blake has a LV12 Flutform Plus and two LV6
Windycrest, while Drake has two LV6 Wingtaur and a LV12 Beastibot Plus).
MC announces that you must fight Connor. However, just before the battle can
begin, a giant flying monster starts attacking everyone. Make your way through
the Escape Route to end up in hospital.
===============================================================================
4.02 - Up to Final Plant Monster
===============================================================================
Jade explains that the giant monster is a Final Monster (terminology for the
boss of monsters). The Chairman gives you a Jump Card, which allows you to use
the Jump Service at a Breeder's Office. Go through 'Route to Herbage 1/2' to
arrive in Herbage. Talk to Clint at his farmhouse.
Apparently, the farmhouse's basement is being haunted by ghosts. Clint asks
you to get rid of the ghosts, so make your way through the basement and defeat
a LV12 Chopoyle at the end to learn that the Chopoyle was the source of the
supernatural activity. Clint shows his appreciation by breeding monsters for
you (Note: If you breed Clint's own two monsters, he keeps the child) (credited
to howdydoodle). Clint stays at his farmhouse until you beat the Final Plant
Monster. You can then find Clint again at the Breeder's Office in Herbage.
Return to 'Route to Herbage 2' and walk through the Dark Forest (there was a
strange barrier blocking the way previously). When you find another barrier,
go right and then up to encounter the Final Plant Monster (LV6 Bucavactus). It
drops an Eg of Rusling after the battle.
===============================================================================
4.03 - Up to Final Fire Monster
===============================================================================
Go back to Herbage. Jade has gone missing, so the worried Chairman asks you to
head for Cactus and find her. Since the strange barrier that was blocking the
way in the Dark Forest is gone, you can go south to enter the Desert. Make
your way through it to arrive in Cactus.
Enter the Pure-Faction building and speak with the PF member to the north. He
asks if you know Jade. Say "Yes" to be allowed talk to her. After you speak
with Jade, a fire will start in a building. Go into the burning building and
rescue all the people trapped inside (use Bristol's shovel to help clear the
way).
A senior says he has made a secret escape route that leads to the back of
Jade's prison cell. Climb down the secret entrance near the top-right corner
of Cactus and guide Jade through the Passage. You end up in hospital again
after Jade sprains her ankle (?!). Now, head through the Volcano and Cave.
Defeat the Final Fire Monster (LV14 Lion Breeze) at the end. It drops an Eg of
Warmth.
===============================================================================
4.04 - Up to Final Water Monster
===============================================================================
Exit the Cave by heading north and go to Morse Village via 'Road to Morse
Village'. Visit the lake in Lakeside Road to meet a dog and its owner, Lena.
Find her again in Farm 3 by going right about half-way through Lakeside Road
(credited to Bl00d3dge). Lena says a huge monster came out of the lake and
suggests using the Research Centre's bathyscaphe to reach the cave where it is
hiding.
Go to the Research Centre in Algae via 'Road to Algae' and talk to the director
inside. He doesn't believe your story and asks you to bring him a picture of
the monster as proof. You realise that an X-Cam is needed to be able to take a
picture. Find out about X-Cams from the male researcher in the first room.
Learn from the female researcher in the same room that the creator of the X-Cam
is now a fisherman.
Get the X-Cam from Kaseli in Morse Village by beating him (he has a LV21
Horstic Plus, LV24 Tweetmare Plus and LV21 Sealtok Plus). Talk to Lena and her
dog will start barking. Interact with the dog to make Lena remember that the
monster appeared when her dog threw a stick. She commands the dog to do this.
Press A beside the dog to cause the monster to appear. Take a picture.
Go back to the Research Centre and show the picture to the director. He allows
you access to the bathyscaphe. Defeat the Final Water Monster (LV22
Hideousness) at the end of the Underwater Cavern. It’s the first boss to attack
with powerful skills. It drops an Eg of Bubbles.
===============================================================================
4.05 - Up to Final Rock Monster
===============================================================================
Conifer can be found by going through 'Road to Conifer 1', 'Restricted Area 2'
and 'Road to Conifer 2'. When you enter Restricted Area 2, a LV26 Rhinotaur
Plus will attack. Continue heading left to save a girl from a LV25 Villascorp.
Lead the girl to Conifer Village. Go back outside to face 3 battles with wild
monsters (1st battle: two LV24 Sedisonic, 2nd battle: LV25 Robomean and
Villascorp, 3rd battle: two LV25 Rhinotaur Plus).
Quinn explains that the entrance to the Destiny Temple is covered by rubble,
but you can go to 'Road to Conifer 2' and dig in the far top-left corner to
find a road that leads to the temple. In this place, use the teleporters to
reach the energy seed. Take the energy seed to Quinn. Head through 'Road to
Cavern' and 'Mountain Cavern 1'. Defeat the Final Rock Monster (LV27
Monstrosity) at the end. It drops an Eg of Unmoving.
===============================================================================
4.06 - Up to Final Wind Monster
===============================================================================
Go back to Conifer. Then, find Vine Village by going through 'Mountain
Cavern 2' and 'Forest Path'. Head through 'Mountain Ledge' and 'Secret
Plateau' to arrive in Plateau Village. Note: 1) A monster (LV36 Mega
Serpentine) will attack just after a save crystal in Mountain Ledge. 2) You'll
find Connor in Secret Plateau.
Talk to the senior in Plateau Village. He agrees to give you a paraglider,
which will help you descend to the Lost Jungle through a hole in the Secret
Plateau if you can defeat Young Man, Villager and Senior (Young Man has a LV36
Elevil Plus and Hoursow Plus, Villager a LV37 Bearnt and Brontaster, and Senior
has a LV38 Firefury and Aquastorm).
Go back to the first area of Secret Plateau and go down the hole closest to the
bottom to end up in the Lost Jungle (Jungle's End). If you're low on items,
you can buy some from a travelling merchant in the top-left corner of the first
area. Defeat the Final Wind Monster (LV35 Cleptosyrus) at the end. It drops
an Eg of Wandering.
===============================================================================
4.07 - Up to Final Spirit Monster
===============================================================================
Exit the Lost Jungle and make your way back to Secret Plateau by heading
through Dangerous Road. Jump into a hole in the first area of Secret Plateau
to end up in Jungle's Edge (the top screen indicates where the hole is). Go to
Reed via 'Road to Reed'. Enter Pure-Faction's HQ and talk to everyone inside.
Then, leave the building to trigger a scene of a PF member appearing at the
back of the HQ. Go there to find a secret facility, but PF won't let you in.
Get a PF uniform near one of the trees in Reed so you can disguise yourself as
a PF member and be allowed explore the basement. Beat two PF members (the
first one has a LV41 Molmiro and Gemfire, while the second has a LV41 Savalien
and Pencilhead). Find Connor and then go to the Spiritual Temple via Swampland
Road. Soren won't grant you access to the temple's interior unless you prove
you're courageous by getting the Mark of Courage in the Swampland Cave.
Beat three LV42 Mega Savalien at the end of Swampland Cave to receive the Mark
of Courage. Now, return to the Spiritual Temple, and Soren will allow you
access its interior. Like in Destiny Temple, use the teleporters to make your
way through this place. Defeat the Final Spirit Monster (LV40 Phoenixaton) at
the end. It drops an Eg of Ephemeralness.
===============================================================================
4.08 - Up to Final Light/Dark Monsters
===============================================================================
Meet Connor and then enter the Pure-Faction HQ basement again. Beat the PF
member (he has a LV45 Snitch, Tremblice and Bonafried). Make your way to the
end of the basement to find Connor (Note: When you reach the second save
crystal just before the final fight, this is the last point in the game where
you can save game progress, so your end-game progress and anything received
from the last two Final Monsters will be lost). Defeat the Final Light Monster
(LV41 Aerofunct) and Final Dark Monster (LV42 Dracuvilla). Afterwards, you can
enjoy the ending. Congrats on completing this game.

6. My Team
###############################################################################
This section details information about all the team members I use in the game.
My battle strategy is to sweep before an enemy gets much of a chance to attack,
with healing skills or items ready to keep my team healthy. The weaker
monsters are useful for bringing down a wild monster's HP slowly, as my
stronger monsters would probably knock it out accidentally.

7. Frequently Asked Questions
###############################################################################
Q: Is there multiplayer?
A: No.
Q: Can I play as a female character?
A: No.
Q: Are there in-game descriptions of what each skill does?
A: No. Their names should give you an idea, though.
Q: Can I sell items?
A: You can sell pictures of monsters, but nothing else.
Q: How do I breed certain monsters?
A: As this guide is primarily a walkthrough, I won't be giving any in-depth
detail about breeding, because a) There are already a lot of informative
topics about it on the GameFAQs message board of this game. b) I will leave
it for someone else to write an in-depth Breeding Guide.
Q: How do I take a picture of a monster during a sidequest?
A: When you encounter a monster (eg. Serpentine Plus) that you want to take a
picture of, go to the Items menu and use your X-Cam on the monster to take
a picture. Then, defeat the monster to keep the picture and finish the
sidequest.
Q: Does the game tell how much EXP is required to level up a monster?
A: No. The monster's level bar should give you an idea, though.
Q: Is any EXP gained split amongst team members?
A: No. They each get the same amount of EXP.
Q: How many blocks of memory does this game use?
A: 74.
Q: Is there a sequel to this game?
A: Yes. A second game, Monster Chronicle 2, was released for mobile phones in
Japan in 2009. The game was not released in North America nor Europe. It
features an all-new story and new monsters.
Q: How do I change the order of my team?
A: The only way is to deposit the monsters that you want in 2nd and 3rd place
and then withdraw them in that order. For example, if you want a Windycrest
and Felistrype in 2nd and 3rd place respectively, deposit them and then
withdraw Windycrest first and Felistrype second.
