A few things to make this faq more useful to everyone....
Little markers so one can do a 'find' option to quickly jump to the section
they're interested in. Also, please note that since I am initially working
off of a Japanese version of the game, I have included the Japanese names of
items, enemies, and locations. If your browser isn't displaying the Japanese
font,
make sure that it is installed and set to decode the JIS format. Once an
English version is released, I'll adjust any translation errors, but will
still keep the Japanese names in here for anyone interested. Please note that
this faq is not spoiler free, and by reading parts, you might find out more
than you wanted to know. I did attempt to keep it in a progressive format, so
that you won't have anything spoiled up to where you are in the game. But
there may be points where such isn't the case, so consider yourself warned.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (悪魔城ドラキュラ:蒼い月の十字架)
takes place a year after the end of Aria of Sorrow (暁月の円舞曲).
Life goes on as normal for Soma until he gets attacked by Celia. In
revenge,
he chases Celia down, and from there the game begins. Apparently all the
main
characters from Aria of Sorrow make a return in this game, so there are many
familiar faces for the people who played the prequal to this title.
Characters:
来須蒼真 くろすそうま/Soma Cruz 19 years old
Soma has the ability to control the souls of monsters. One year ago, he
discovered that it was his fate to become Dracula. Instead of sucummbing to
his
fate, he destroyed the chaos, and thus escaped becoming Dracula.
白馬弥那 はくばみな/Mina Hakuba 19 years old
A protector of the Hakuba shrine. Mina and Soma were friends, and a year ago,
they went to see the solar eclipse of 2035, only to end up taken to Dracula's
Castle. She doesn't have any special powers, but is close to Soma.
ユリウス・ベルモンド/Julis Belmont 56 years old
Belonging to the Belmont clan of Vampire Hunters, Julius sealed away Dracula
back in 1999 in the solar Eclipse. He lost his memory of that fight, but
during
the events of 2035 in Aria of Sorrow, he regains his memories. He is currently
assisting the church.
有角幻也 ありかどげんや/ Genya Arikado Age Unkown
His origins are secret (In game anyway), and is always wrapped in mystery. He
currently works for the Japanese government, and only a few people know who
he
really is.
ヨーコヴェルナンデス/Yoko Belnades 25 years old
Another member of the church, she has magic abilities at her disposal. She
studies the evil in human hearts in secret. In 1476, her ancestor Sylpha
Belnades first inherited the destiny to destroy Dracula with the Belmonts. She
is friendly to Soma, and even acts like a big sister at times.
ハマー/Hammer
Retired from the military as of one year ago. He got swept up to Dracula's
castle in 2035 randomly, and set up a shop there for Soma. There is a rumor
that he likes Yoko, and attempts to flirt with her.

The touch screen has a few uses known so far. One is the requirement to draw
seals in order to deliver the coupe de grace to bosses. Simply remember the
order of the symbol, and when it shows up, quickly draw it! Another feature is
that crystal blocks can be destroyed by poking at them. Not too much is known
beyond that. There also seem to be many additional ways to use the touch
screen
with the different souls, and as those are discovered, they will be placed
among
the specific soul.
-The Prelude-
The game starts out with Soma and Mina talking about the past events the
previous year. Suddenly a strange woman appears, looking for Soma. Her name
is
Seria セリア. She then summons up a skeleton, and at the same time,
Arikado
appears. He tosses a knife ナイフ to Soma (Which becomes appears. He
tosses a knife ナイフ to Soma (Which becomes automatically equipped). Thus
begins the little tutorial for the game.and to get you used to the controls.
You fight a skeleton セケルトン, armor knight
アーマーナイト and a golem ゴーレム. Defeating each one will give
you each of their souls. For these, and any other soul info, refer to the
soul
section. After the fight, Seria flees, taunting Soma to follow her.
Soma finds himself in a snow region while hunting for Seria. He comes across
Hammer who apparently had been following Yoko. After their conversation, you
get full control of Soma, so go ahead and head to the right.
-地図から消えた村/Missing village-
Keep heading right, a few screes away you'll find a short sword
ショートソード Down below you is a save point and a potion
ポーション, go there if you need health. Then continue to the right.
You'll come across Julius and Yoko. Apparently Julius was following the call
of a hunter as a belmont. Despite Yoko telling him to wait, he dashes off
into
the castle, leaving the
drawbridge up. Yoko gives you a level one sealing symbol, then asks if you
want instructions on how to use it. そうだね is yes, いいよ is no.
Whichever option you choose you must now escort Yoko and look for another way
in. Don't worry, she can't be hurt at all. Go back West to where you got
the short sword and
drop down. Head to the right door, and Yoko tells you about needing the rght
level unsealing to open them. Its time for the first boss!
A pretty easy boss. He flies around and attacks with his two swords. If the
swords cross each other, then be ready to jump off the ground to avoid the
swords as they slice across the ground. If the swords point towards you,
simply
keep moving to avoid their attack. If the swords point opposite of each
other, avoid the Flying Armor as the swords spin around him. This boss should
be quick work. Once you've hit the boss enough times, the sealing symobl
will
appear. Quickly draw the pattern that was shown by Yoko, and you'll have
finished off the boss and obtained his soul.
Yoko comes in to congratulate you for defeating the enemy. Your job of
escorting her is done, and now its time to press on. In the first room you
come to, you'll notice that you're unable to reach the ledge normally.
You'll need to equip the new soul you got and use it with the R button in
order to glide across to the ledge. There is a claymore ケレイモア lying
on the ground
there. In the next room, hop along the ledges on the top to pick up a spear
スピア. At that point, there is a roadblock, so the only choice is down.
If
you want to grab the save point, head west to the next room, and pick up the
mace メイス on the ground. Go down.*To jump down platforms, hold down and
jump* then go left for the save point. Go out the east side to go back to the
big room. In the big room, there are two places down at the bottom. One is
Yoko's weapon synthesis shop, the other is Hammer's store. If you need any
supplies or upgrades to your weapons, get them here. Once you're done, head
up and out a new path on the east of this room. Keep going east and you'll
find a potion at the end of the path. Jump up the ledges near the entrance to
this room, and use the flying armor to glide across. Go past the sign with
Seria's picture on it. Go through one room, and a hallway. The following
room
has a switch which will drain the moat. Hit the switch, and the go through
the
newly opened path. Keep heading right, and go through the door. You've now
made it into the castle.
-?????/?????-
Once here, start heading downward. The first doorway on your left leads to a
save point. The doorway is marked with a mind up マインドアップ. If
you want a stronger weapon, head east into the door across from the save
point
and go to the end of the hall to pick up a namakera ナマケラ. Follow the
room to the end to find a chest with some gold in it. Then just go to the
previous room. Keep going down to the bottom, and then head west. Go through
the room, and down another room. Take the second door east, and drop down
through the floor. Head east, and down to the bottom again. East through the
door leads to a cutscene with Seria and her two henchmen Dimitri and Dario.
They are also candidates for becoming Dracula, and want to kill you off. But
not at this point. Everyone leaves, so you can continue East. Go down and
east to a save point, and get
ready for the next boss fight. Once you're ready, head west through the door.
This boss is a little tricky at first. When you enter the room, get close to
the crystals, you character will automatically duck and avoid the beam the
boss
fires. Head through the new path, and be greeted face to face. The boss has a
few attacks. The room for avoiding them is small, but once you learn how his
moves are, you'll have the hang of it. If you see his eye charging up. Duck!
Thats the que for the laser beam, and it
seriously packs a punch. When he brings his fist closer to his body, thats the
sign that its going to be attacking up, so don't be standing on the fist at
that point. When the fist moves closer to his face, that means he is going to
punch the wall. Duck down below his face to avoid it, and then avoid the
follow
up punch he does. I stand on the fist for this one, as its easier for me. Once
he's been hurt enough, be prepared to seal him!
With the new soul ability, use the touch screen to shatter a path through the
crystals, and move back to the save point. Head up, then west, then up to the
top. Go out to the East and make your way around this room. Go out the west
side, and head up. First door on the east leads to a warp room. Go ahead and
add it to your map for the future. Keep going up and at the top go east. Go
through this room and into the next. Jump up onto the glowing green platform,
and have stylus at hand. Have Soma duck, and take out all the crystals before
they knock Soma off. At the end, head out the room and go through the door to
enter the next area of the castle.
-狂乱の花園/Flower garden of Madness-
Head up and take the first left for a save point. Go to the top and take the
West exit. In this room you'll pick up sealing level 2. Head up, and go west
for another warp point. Go up to the next room. Head east a little and pick
up
a breastplate
ブレストプレート. Go out the Top east exit, head east, and then go to
the middle of this room to get the doppleganger ドップルゲンガー soul.
This soul allows you to have two equipment/soul settings, and to easily switch
between them. Head east out of this room, and follow the path along eastward
and go through the door there to the next area.
-?????/Black Cathedral-
Head straight east and get the save point. Then take the top east exit. Go
across the hall, and in the next room head down to the very bottom. Take the
west exit. Continue down the hall, and then go down one section to the next
west doorway. Enter there for a warp point. Go to the top of this room, and
head out on the east. Go to the end of the hall, and work your way up and
then
east. Go to the top and west for a save point. Get prepared for another boss
fight, and go down to the bottom. Open sesame!
We walk in on Dimitri fighting a creature. This also gives you a clue as to
his weakness. He absorbs the soul attack that is used on him. So, the easiest
thing to do, is to use a weak, easy to doge red soul attack. A good one is
skeleton. And its one you're guranteed to have at this point anyway. All
you
need to do is hit him with the attack once. Then that is the only attack
Dimitri
will do. Rather pitiful boss. Defeat him and get his soul.
Not too much of a fight either, but at least a vast improvement over Dimitri.
The boss has a few attacks to watch for. When he lands, he will either wait a
few seconds and then take off, or suck in crows and then fly, firing them all
towards whatever side you're on. So when that happens, just get close, and
get under and to the other side. He also charges electric orbs
and throws them at you. Simply get away from him enough that you can jump
over the orbs. They have a slight homing ability. His final attack is where
he unfolds both wings in mid-air and fires his heathers on both sides. Keep
an
eye on him and when he stretches out, slide underneath him.
After getting his soul, we now have the highly useful double jump ability!
While heading out of the bosses area, use the flying armor and double jump to
reach the small ledge and pick up the peace ring リングピアス. Head back
to the nearest save point. Go out the west door below the save point, and use
the double jump to pick up the power belt ポワーベルト. Head towards the
earlier save point by going down, and through the hall. Use the double jump in
the northwest corner of the room and snag the longsword ロングソード if
you want it. Head west through the door.
-狂乱の花園/Flower garden of Madness-
Take the northwest exit, and go up through the northwest exit again. Here you
will see a ledge you couldn't reach before, but now you have the double jump,
so head on up there. Grab the elf robe エルフノローブ and take the
northeast exit. Follow the hallway to the end for a save point, and then head
north. Get ready, and enter the boss door. Fun time again!
After a short conversaton and an explosion of fire, the battle starts. He only
has a few attacks, but they all pack a severe punch. One attack is where he
simply shoots a fireball from his fist. Duck or jump over it to avoid it.
The
next attack is where he slams his fists into the ground and causes a giant
shockwave. Jump over this to avoid it. His third attack is where he summons
3
pillars of fire from the ground to attack, just keep moving and they won't
hit
you.
I usually use the une soul to damage him constantly, so I can stay far enough
away to safely avoid his attacks. Just keep an eye for when he transports so
you can make sure you throw the une in the right spot.
After you deal enough damage, Seria comes in and stops Dario, and they both
flee away.
Go back to the save point if you need it, and then proceed onward.
Head West, and then up to the top. Go west through the door into the next
area.
-????/?????-
Go west through the hallway into the next room. You'll be stopped by
Arikado.
He gives you ミナのおまもり/Mina's Charm to keep away evil. It'll
be
important later. Keep heading west, and then go down a little and take the
west
exit out of this big room. Go through the hallway, and we come to a fun
little
puzzle.
This puzzle is basically one where you slide the rooms around to make a path.
At default, its already leading you straight to the next area, so you really
don't need to mess with it unless you're exploring or want to pick up some
items. Or just want to make a path back to the beginning area. Any
combination works, but the easiest one that gives you access to all exits is
simply by putting the rooms in order! 1 2 3 4 on the top row, 5 6 7 8 on the
next, and so forth.
The items you can find in this little puzzle are:
Room 1 has a セスタス/Cestus
Room 5 has a カタール/katar
Room 8 has a ターコイズピアス/Turqoise piece
Room 9 has a ジュストコール/Justaucorps?
Room 12 has a グレートソード/Great sword
The room on the upper right just leads to a room with a mirror. It has a
リングメイル/ring mail and a hidden item in it.
The lower left leads back to the village.
The upper left leads forward towards the next boss.
Can't figure out how to line them all up in numerical order? Hit the reset
switch, and here is the step-by-step!
Now that we're through that (and on the upper-left corner of the puzzle) lets
keep moving west. Go up and to the east. Up again, east again. Take the
upper east exit, and up and west. Up and east, then up and west. Take the
upper west exit, and pick up the level 3 magic seal, then go back to the
previous room. Up out the top, and then to the right for a save point. Just
to
the west is the boss. Its fun time!
This boss is lethal if you don't know what to watch out for. He starts out
by
spitting out a bunch of dolls. These just fly around and try and run into
you,
mostly causing a nuisance. What ou have to watch out for, is when you hear a
crystallic sound. That is when he is creating a dummy doll. It will be in
one
of his four hands. You'll want to destroy that before it gets to the iron
maiden, otherwise you'll switch places with the doll, and take a lot of
damage! The boss nor the iron maidens (when open) will hurt you if you touch
them. So just dodge the flying dolls, and destroy the dummy.
We now have a most interesting soul....just like the boss attack with the
dummy
doll, we can now switch places with a doll you toss. Also, at this point, we
can
choose between 2 bosses. The route that I'm giving from this point on is to
follow the main bosses and work towards the end. The other bosses will be
added at the end when the paths aren't two anymore. You can skip down to the
next section marked with *SPLIT* or keep following down.
Go down, and take the bottom east path. Down and then west, down and east,
and
go straight east. Here you'll see a small hole in the wall. Use the
puppetmaster soul, and toss the doll through it. Nice trick, eh? Keep going
to the end of the hall. Go down and out the bottom of this room. Take the top
eatern exit, and to the end of the hall. GO through the door.
-狂乱の花園/Flower garden of Madness-
Go down, and east. East again, and then down. West, west, Then around and
out
the bottom east. Go straight across and out the east. Down and east, and then
down and east out the door.
-?????/Black Cathedral-
Through the northeast exit, east through the hall. Up and out the top-west
exit. West through the hall, and go through the next room out the top. Up
and
to the east exit, then up and east again. Through the hall, and back to the
bellroom. Top east side there is a little hole for the doll. Toss and go. Go
to the bottom of this room, and hit the switch, then go east through the door.
-?????/Tower of the Sinned-
Go as far east as you can, and you'll come across Julius. Hell tell you
about
the dark seal. Afterwards, go back one room and head up. Our goal, the top
of
the tower! Its pretty much just weaving up through each room. About halfway
up there is a doorway on the right that leads to a locked door. Remember
where
that is. At the top is a save point on the right, and the boss on the left.
One of the harder bosses of the game. Only one of his moves is hard to dodge.
The trick is to stay low, and slide around (With the exception of 2 moves)
Swords are recommended for their upper arcing attack.
Sometimes he'll start sucking in air, stay out from under him, and jump away
until he nosedives his face into the ground. If he is close to the wall on
the
side you're on, make sure you've landed before he pulls his nose out.
If he curls inward, that means he's getting ready to expel gases (either
stone
or poison) and you want to duck in the farthest corner or jump up high and use
the flying armor until the gas dissapates. It CAN hit you if you're standing
up, and very rarely in the corner.
If he starts foaming at the mouth, he's about to shoot a large beam, run up
close to his leg and duck down. Free hits for you, just remember to slide
away
before he finishes his beam attack in case he decides to step forward.
The hardest one to dodge is his jump. It almost looks like he is going to gas
you, and then he ducks down and leaps. You'll want to be ready to slide
under
him. You need to be close enough that you can make it in one or two slides,
but
not close enough that he hurts you when he ducks down for the leap. Hiding in
the far corner rarely helps, as he ducks back down after landing.
After beating on him for a while, he'll leap again, which will cause the
floor
to crumble. And when that happens, the whole boss arena crumbles. Free hits
while you two fall though. Just avoid his head when he pulls it out of the
sand. After landing, his leg shackles break, and he moves faster. But his
attacks are still the same.
Whew. Al that climbing, a big beast, and now we're back at the bottom. And
we need to climb up again. Use the flying armor soul to glide across each
opening. Once up to where the boss room was, glide across there too. Pick up
the key on the ground, and walk to the next room to activate a warp room.
Then
go back. We need to go down the tower and take the doorway. We can unlock the
door there now. Unlock it, go through the door, and we're in a new area!
-????/Cursed Clocktower-
Move forward, and Seria will appear. She tells you of her plan, and Arikado
comes up behind, shortly followed by an overly anxious Julius. Seria
vanishes,
and the other two run on ahead. Go ahead and do the same.
Keep heading west, and you'll come to a room with a bunch of pistons. You
want to be on the ones without blood when they go up. So duck when you get to
them, and try to move across without getting hurt. In the next room go up and
out the east side. In this room, take the bottom path, and avoid getting hit
by the spinning spikes. Go through the bottom, and then come back on the top
to get to the exit going up. Sometimes a doublejump will keep you above the
spike if its just barely coming across the floor. Next room is full of
pendulums. Jump on each one and work your way to the top. Out the east,
there
is a level 4 magic seal. Pick it up and keep going. Ride the platform to the
top, and head out the west side. This is another room with a pendulum. Jump
on it, and when it swings to the right, jump on the wooden platform and go up.
Grab the save room on the right, and then head left to the boss.
Ahh, the boss of time. A nice dramatic entrance too. Not too difficult boss
here.
If he raises his right hand, he's going to swipe his claw at you. Just stand
back enough to avoid it.
If his left hand moves, he's going to throw a knife. Jump over it or attack
it
and it'll land on the ground.
If he jumpes up to the ceiling, be prepared to dodge the dagger he throws, and
don't get in his way either. Just move slightly behind him, and when he
starts jumping down, take a step or two either direction.
He will glow for a second, and do one of two types of attacks depending on if
you hit try to attack while he is glowing. If you attack, he will slash
forward with his claw, doubletap the backward dash to avoid this. If you
don't, he freezes time and jumps in an arc over you throwing up to 5 daggers
(less if he hits a wall first) and then unfreezes time. Just make sure you
stand inbetween the daggers. Take a step left or right if need be.
After the boss, keep heading west until you get to the warp room. Take the
warp room to the black cathedral
-?の???/Black Cathedral- *SPLIT*
Back in the cathedral, go to the bottom and exit out the west side. Down the
hall to the enxt room, go down to the bottom and exit west, take the next path
east. Avoid the spike trap, and use the puppet soul to go through the hole.
Head east, avoid the other spike trap, and go through the door.
-????/Underground Hades-
Go down and snag the save point, and then go back up, take a right, and enter
the boss chamber.
This is an interesting boss fight. Takes place in the water. The key to this
battle is to watch the bubbles and stay slightly behind them. They're your
clue as to where Rahab is. I also don't recommend jumping around or on the
ice platforms, its safer just drifting in the water.
Rahab usually comes up on either side, but can sometimes come up in the
middle,
and does a number of attacks.
Leaps out of the water in an arc, sending 5 ice crystals down on you. Just
stay
inbetween them and you'll be fine.
Pulls out of the water, and shoots ice. You shouldn't be hit by this unless
you're far away from him.
Does a spinning attack destroying any ice bricks and hurting you if you're
too
close.
When he goes back down, try not to be too close (Better yet, back away), or
he'll hit your feet. Also, the reason to stay behind his bubbles is to avoid
him from coming up on you, or doing his underwater spiral (Just turns around
underwater, butit comes up into your drifting area) to hit you.
Other than that, the boss is pretty simple. Seal away!
We can now walk underwater! Jump out the east and we can now explore the
underground area.
Follow the path around, down, then bottom west corner. Down and west, and
west
through the hallway. Go up and take the west exit, and west through the
hallway
again. Then go down and take the bottom west exit again. Down, and bottom
west
again. West, then straight down. To the east is a save point if you need it.
Then head west, you'll pick up a うまいキノコ/Good mushroom and go
straight down and turn east. Go through the door at the end of the hall.
-????/Ruins-
Apparently time has stopped here, so you won't be able to proceed further
without Zepher's soul. Use it, and the cannonball will finish clearing the
way for you. Welcome to nostalgia. Head east through the halls, and then go
down a little and continue going east. In the big room take the northeastern
exit, and be greeted by Julius and Dario, apparently in the middle of a fight.
One which Dario is winning. Dario then yells insults at Soma and vanishes.
Continue east until you get to a save point. Go ahead and save here, the boss
is two rooms away. Go back and then up. Go east all the way to the boss room.
----------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS: Bat Company バットカンパニー
----------------------------------------------------------------
Not just one bat! This boss likes to take many forms, and flies around a lot.
The best way to dodge its default form is to stay in one corner, and when it
comes to you, jump and use flying armor to get over it. This also works when
its a hand. When it is a face, simply dodge or destroy the blue bullets it
shoots out. Don't let the hand touch you! If it grabs you, it'll squeeze
you
and it hurts.
The main trick is, don't hug the wall unless you're planning on jumping.
When in bat form, it will move to where you are, and just a little bit
further.
So you want to plan for that. In that way, you can basically control where
the
bat moves to, and thus remove almost any chance of getting hurt. Seal'd!
----------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS: Bat Company バットカンパニー
----------------------------------------------------------------
Now we can turn into a bat! That opens up all the areas you can go except 5.
Two of which needs specific souls, the other two you need certain story
triggers. Those other paths will be covered later on. For now, we're headed
to the top!
Warp back to the Clock Tower.
-????/Cursed Clocktower-
From the warp point, go out and down, then take the left path. Zig-zag your
way down and you'll come across a narrow path with spikes. Go batty and fly
your way through there. Continue to follow the path, and then go through the
door. You're now at the highest point of the castle.
-?????/Top Floor-
The first thing you'll see is Yoko. After you're through with her, keep
going west down the hall, and then go west through the next one. In this new
area, drop straight down, and head east for a save point. Go out and back up,
then keep heading west until you can't. Go up to the next room, and head
east. Head east again. Keep going east to the next room, and then up. Go
around and up again, and then head west until you get to a save point. Its
time for the final boss. Go out and up, and head west all the way to the
boss.
Its Dario! He's become all evil! Just look in the mirror. See that firey
soul of his? Unfortunately, it seems like he's only got one new attack. I
copy/pasted the info from the first time in case you forgot.
He only
has a few attacks, but they all pack a severe punch. One attack is where he
simply shoots a fireball from his fist. Duck or jump over it to avoid it. He
can now shoot 3 at a time in a spread formation (sideways W)
The
next attack is where he slams his fists into the ground and causes a giant
shockwave. Jump over this to avoid it. His third attack is where he summons
3
pillars of fire from the ground to attack, just keep moving and they won't
hit
you.
The new attack is where he summons up two giant dragons. Always back away
when
he starts running his mouth. Thats your que he's going to do this attack.
Then
just stand inbetween the dragons where they don't collide, and you're safe.
Another thing that will make him even easier. Jump behind him. He's pretty
slow to figure out where you are.
After you deal enough damage, Seria comes in and stops Dario, and they both
flee away.
Seal away!

Seal'd!

BOSS: Bat Company バットカンパニー
----------------------------------------------------------------
