1) INTRODUCTION [int]

Okay... I was bored... had about two weeks to kill... nothing to do... so I
had the great idea of making this document! This is a guide for the fourth
installment of Gyakuten Saiban. This is the first game with a new protagonist,
and takes place 7 years after the 3rd game: Trials and Tribulations. In this
game, you will find out what happened to Phoenix Wright during the seven year
break, and how he became to what he is now.
For most of the guide I am going with the Japanese names, as that just makes
it much easier for me. However I will put a table of Japanese vs. English
names incase anyone is interested in it. But then, if you haven't played the
previous Gyakuten Saiban (or Phoenix Wright) games, then I strongly suggest
you do, whether it be in GBA or NDS (note that English versions are only
available on NDS). Also, in this guide I am assuming you have played and
finished the previous 3 games, so there will be no instructions on things like
controls and game mechanics. Except I may put short instructions for the few
new things in this game.
Lastly, despite being just steps to finish the game, this guide contains
SPOILERS, especially in the profiles and evidence sections, so I'm warning you
here! So, only use this guide when you are totally stuck. Another thing, what
I have suggested is only ONE way through the game, I am sure there can be a
few variances and you will still make it to the end of the case.

3) WHAT'S NEW [new]
===============================================================================
Well, as I was playing through the game, the following things are the most
obvious as new to this game. There are probably more, but too lazy to list
everything.
ALL CHAPTERS:
1. Obviously, the characters are new, only a handful are from previous games.
As for the returning characters, I can leave that for you to figure out...
2. The next thing you notice is the special "power" that our rookie attorney
has. This power is called "Minuku", which literally means "to see
through", and that is what exactly what this power does. It sees through
the witness's lies and habits when they lie and uses it against them. I
guess I'll call it the "Minuku System". Used to open up the witness's with
deep secrets, similar to the Magatama used the the older series, except
"Minuku" is used in court trials.
Basically if something doesn't make sense in a testimony, you press
Odoroki's bracelet and what happens is you get this special "eye" to see
the habits:
There are two things you need to figure out. Which part of the testimony
the habits shows up in and where on the body the witness's bad habits
occur, and secondly . Sometimes it can be hard to see, and it takes a
while to find where the lies lie.
3. Also, instead of just overhead maps to show what happened in the case,
there are also 3D maps to help now!! Very cool!
CHAPTER 2
4. Fingerprint checking is back... and you can also check footprints! Similar
to fingerprinting, but it involves more steps.
1. Fill the footprint with a cream colour liquid
2. Blow dry the liquid until it hardens to a white colou
3. Use the roller to apply paint on the underside of the footprint
4. Compare the footprint with a database of everyone's prints
CHAPTER 3
5. In the start of the 3rd chapter, you'll get to use a mixer. Which lets you
listen the instruments of the 5 members of the band seperately. Though it
doesn't play a big part, until the end of the case, its still pretty cool.
6. Luminol spray used to find out what was written in blood, thats a new
trick to the series... I think...
CHAPTER 4
7. Akane gives you more cool gadgets! For one little section, you have to use
a spray to find traces of poison in a room. While spraying isn't new, I
thought I'd just add it here.
8. Now this is new, an X-ray machine! It let's you see through envelopes to
the contents of a letter, under the paint of a canvas to see the rough
sketches... It's a useful tool in your investigations.
9. You may have noticed this in the contents, but it is an entirely new
chapter to the last case. The "Mason System" basically it fills in the 7
year gap between playing as Narudohou. There are 8 events, 4 from the
past, and 4 from the present, and they are all linked to each other. Play
through each one like you would normally to discover the link between the
case seven years ago and the current case Odoroki is facing. And also
ALOT of background information on all the new characters.
The blue coloured events take place 7 years ago, and the orange ones are
from the present. See the section in episode 4 for details.
10. One last thing, which is probably also more or less the most important of
this game, is the introduction of the jury system in the last case. In
case you didn't know, the jury system is when a certain number of ordinary
people are selected to sit in court and present their judgement
(guilty/not guilty) based on the evidence shown. Which leads to the LAST
decision of the game, which I won't spoil here (but you can pretty much
guess). And since this is introduced into the game, it will probably
somehow change the future games (or it may not, as the actual role of the
lawyer doesn't change).

Statement 1 : あの夜、牙琉とぼくは夕飯を食べた。この写真と、
まったく同じ席でね。
That night, Garyuu and I had dinner together. In the exact same
seat as this photo.
Statement 2 : 彼が帰って５分ほどしてから浦伏 影郎が現れた。
About 5 minutes after he left, Urafushi Kagerou appeared.
Statement 3 : そして、あの“ワナ”が失敗して、浦伏は、あの子を殴りつけたんだ。
And, after the "trap" failed, Urafushi hit that girl.
Statement 3a: ゲーム中に“ワナ”に気づいた。凶器のボトルにカードを始末したよ。
In the middle of the game, I felt a "trap". I put a card inside
the bottle.
Statement 4 : 彼女がグッタリして、浦伏も慌てた。ぼくは彼を残して、
警察を呼んだ。
She started lost conciousness, and Urafushi panicked. I left him
and callled the police.
Statement 5 : 部屋に戻ると、今度は彼が死んでた。ヒタイから一筋、血が
流れていたよ。
When I returned to the room, this eime, he died. One stream of
blood flowed down from his forehead.
Statement 6 : それで、もう一度。電話をかけた。‥‥今度は、牙琉弁護士先生に、
ね。
And then, once again, I made a phone call. ...This time to
Garyuu.

The victim was dead exactly as shown in the crime photo.

成歩堂。
A bald head, and an unconscious girl. ...And Naruhodou holding a

Statement 6 : 『ココにいてはマズい』‥‥とっさに思い、その場を離れました。
I thought... "It's bad for me to be here", and left the place.
Statement 7 : そこに、成歩堂からの電話が入ったのです。
And then, I received the phone call from Naruhodou.

That night, at around 9 o'clock, I went to the studio to collect
data.
Statement 2 : ダレも入ったことのないアトリエ。まさに報道史上に残る瞬間でした！
Inside a studio where no-one has entered, surely it was a moment
to be engraved in history!
Statement 3 : 取材を始めてすぐ、ムスメさんがワレワレにコーヒーを。
Right after I started collecting data, the daughter handed us
out coffee.

It was a yellow envelope... I'm pretty sure that it was left in
the crime scene.

That night, I arrived in the hospital room at the time appointed
by my master.

The room was already filled with the smell of gunpowder, and
already gone to the heavens.

I never imagined that my senior apprentice would get the same

In order to fufil the deceased's promise, I put the seal of
death in the clown's crown.

There was only 1 pistol in the hospital room, and I used that to
shoot the clown.

This next section deals with the puns that the developers love to use in this
game... so far, I am only going to deal with Japanese names, we barely know
enough English names to start. Most of these were though up of by me, if you
have anything to add, feel free to email me! By the way, how I translate and
deconstruct the character's names, is not meant to the a "translation" of the
name to English. Japanese names should enver be translated into English,
because they can't!
ps. I am in no way related to anyone/anything Japanese, so there probably be
quite a few mistakes here, plus there will be a few of my own "guesses".

| Odoroki (驚き) literally means "surprise" which matches his character of |
| being very lively, and described as a "surprising" person. Also, he is |
| often surprised in court (but then, our protagonist always is XD) |
| His first name, "Housuke" is a fairly common Japanese name, but the way |
| it's written is the special part. The "hou" (法) means "law", which |
| reflects him being a lawyer. "Suke" (介) is a common character found in |
| many boy's names. |

| Naruhodou is probably taken from "naruhodo" (なるほど). It's used just |
| like when I type "icic" in MSN. It means "I see" or "I understand". Other |
| than that, I can't say much else. Maybe because Ryuuichi always said it?? |
| Minuki (みぬき) is mostly taken from the new "powers" of Odoroki and |
| Minuki, which is labeled as みぬく (minuku). Minuku literally means "to see |
| through" which is appropiate, as Minuki (and Odoroki) have the ability to |
| "see through" witness's lies and bad habits. |

| I can figure out... |

| men who become famous at young ages. But note that the first kanji is "牙" |
| which literally means "fangs", maybe it's just me, but I reckon it in a way |
| symbolises the personalities of the brothers. |

| of "Sakai" in this game. It could also be from "Ikasama Sai", which is an |
