I. Introduction
________________
I am making this guide on account of fossils. In both the GCN and the DS
version, what this guide is about, I fallen in love with fossils. They are a
great way to make money and kind of like playing the lottery. I've always been
interested in dinosaurs and archaeology, so I found this feature to be a
pleasant surprise. Please take your time to enjoy this guide and use it as
reference for any questions you might have. If you have any unanswered
questions or concerns, feel free to talk to me on the message boards, my name
is Nfan13, or e-mail me at
[email protected]. Please make sure to put AC:WW
as the subject otherwise your mail will be deleted. I won't be able to
answer every e-mail so please keep this in mind as I don't want an
overflow of e-mails. You can also IM me on AIM. My sn in spanieldk.
Thanks and remember to enjoy.
II. Frequently Asked Questions
_______________________________
Q: What are fossils and how do I find them?
A: Fossils are items you dig out from the ground at small star-shaped symbols
and in their original state must be identified by Blathers in the museum before
they are of much use. After that, you can donate them to the museum if you have
already donated the one you have, sell them to Tom Nook, display them in your
house, or give them to a neighbor. Please note however that there are other
items buried underground, so pay attention to what you dig up!
Q: How often can I find fossils?
A: On average, you can find three fossils in your town per day. However, if
your
town is overrun with weeds or covered with patterns, this leaves less stops for
a fossil to be underground (a fossil can't be under rocks, where a flower or
tree is, etc.) and you may not find some or any that day.
Q: You said you could display them in your house. Do they count for HRA points?
A: Yes, a display fossil, such as a dinosaur egg or amber, is worth 300 points.
A skeleton fossil, such as a T-Rex skull or apato torso, is worth 1,000 points.
Q: Do I need any tools to dig up fossils?
A: Just a shovel or golden shovel. Having a golden shovel does not affect what
kind of fossils you dig up and a normal shovel can be bought from Tom Nook's
store.
Q: Do I have to mail in my fossils like in the GCN version?
A: Nope, just talk to Blathers.
Q: Do fossils show up in the catalog?
A: Yes, and in their own section too! A new one will show up every time
Blathers
identifies it for the first time. NOTE: Even though they are in the catalog,
you
cannot buy them.
Q: How did you get this information?
A: Through experimentation and the "Official Guide of NP" (see Thanks section).
I had to do a little bit of time traveling for the sake of this guide, but my
town is recovering. *Sigh* A lot of weeding ahead of me!
Q: Can I visit your town?
A: Sure, why not? (See "Wi-Fi Information" section)

V. Fossils with Neighbors
_________________________
As mentioned in the Frequently Asked Questions section, fossils can be
given to neighbors and are an important part of a lasting relationship with
them. There are three things you can do to use fossils as an interaction tool
with other residents of your town. You can sell them at the flea market, mail
them in a letter, or use to complete a neighbor's requested task.
Va. Flea Market
----------------
Obviously, you can display fossils in your house, and therefore sell them in
the flea market. The flea market happens the first Saturday of every month
(except January and August) and lasts all day long. Instinctively, a neighbor
may not always go to a fossil in your house, so I recommend setting them up so
a neighbor has nowhere to go but to a fossil. Since this guide gives you Tom
Nook's selling prices, sometimes you can sell them for a bit more depending on
your relationship. I don't recommend to sell them over 2,000 Bells of Nook's
price because most neighbors would normally not buy it.
Vb. Letters
-----------
Mailing letters to fellow villagers is a great way to build lasting friendships
and sometimes receive rare items. Likewise, you can mail items along with a
letter and usually receive something in return. When attaching a fossil to a
letter, you can maximize how much a villager appreciates the gift. It is
important to try and fill up all the stationary as much as possible and to
mention items in the game by their name. A neighbor looks at a letter & gift as
especially good when the name of the item attached is mentioned in the letter.
For an example, let's say I mailing Tank a pleiso skull. I would compose the
letter in the following way,
Dear Tank,
Thanks for being so nice
to me all the time. I
really appreciate it,
so here's a pleiso skull
for you. Enjoy!
Your friend, Daniel
Doing so almost guarantees a nice gift in return and makes it seem like you
are serious about the game. Exactly what it seems the developers wanted.
Technically, you could write about anything and just include the words "pleiso
skull", but I like doing it the way I have it.
Vc. Task
---------
Ever notice how some characters carry a specific tool around all the time and
they only talk about whatever part of the game is involved with that tool? Like
when they walk around with a shovel and talk about fossil collecting? Well,
once in a while, an animal with a shovel will either talk about how they can't
find a fossil or how they are looking for a specific kind of fossil. Mostly,
they just want any fossil as long as it has been identified by Blathers and
I must forewarn that they reward the same no matter what fossil you get them.
Let's say you have a T-Rex skull and an amber. Which would you give to the
animal to complete their "task"? If you said amber, you're right. If you said
the T-Rex skull, you need to pay close attention to what I'm about to say.
Since animals reward the same for every fossil, you want to give them the
cheaper one and sell the more expensive. It won't make any difference as to
how happy they are, and you'll walk away with more Bells in your pocket.
The exception is when they are looking for a specific type of fossil.
For example, Dizzy once told me he was looking for a dimedotrodon fossil,
but he couldn't find any. If an animal tells you they are looking for a
SPECIFIC type of fossil, you can only give them that type. With the Dizzy
situation, you could either give him a dimedotrodon skull, torso, or tail
and he would be equally as happy. While these kind of tasks usually take
longer, usually you will get a much better reward so they are
definitely worth it.
VI. Fossils with Tom Nook
__________________________
Selling fossils with Tom Nook is very simple. Simply go to his shop, talk to
him and tell him you want to sell, and simply drag your fossil into the upper
menu and hit confirm. It works the same as selling any other item.
(You can also sell them to Timmy and Tommy upstairs if you have the
Nookingtons expansion; the procedure is identical to Nook's.) Please note,
though that unidentified fossils sell for 0 Bells, so you need to have
Blathers identify them first. See "The Fossils" section for Nook's selling
price.
VII. Wi-Fi Information
______________________
So, you wanna visit my town, huh? Well then, there are a couple rules I gotta
mention first:
1.) NO HACKERS OR SEEDS!!!!! I worked very hard on my town and don't want it
ruined.
2.) If I can't see you and you've been gone too long, game over.
3.) Please, please, please don't chop down trees, pick fruit, etc. without
asking me first.
4.) Anything else I forgot that can be potentially harmless to my game,
character, or town WILL result with expulsion.
Please understand that I'm not trying to be strict or gruff, I simply don't
want anything to mess what I have now.
NOTE: If you want me to come to your town I'll be more than happy to and
follow all the rules you have.
NAME: Daniel
TOWN NAME: Ghettos
FRIEND CODE: 0258-5877-3600
I have three other characters, but they're mostly for storage. If you want to
interact with any of them, just tell me later.
But alas, that's only half the Wi-Fi, I'll need your info. too!!!!
* If you are a GameFAQS member, you can easily reach me on the
"AC:WW Online" Board by making a topic with my name (Nfan13) somewhere in
the title. (NOTE: This is the best way to reach me.)
* If you are not a GameFAQS member, you can send me an e-mail at
[email protected], but I may not get back to you for some time.
I also have MKDS and MPH, but we can swap codes and talk about those some
other time.
