1) Introduction
************************************************
First, I'd like to thank you for reading my FAQ. This is my first crack at one
so let me know how I did. E-mail me all you want as long as it's FAQ related.
I'm a lonely person so I'm all about hearing from you.
I remember reading Spawn a while ago so I was geeked when this game appeared in
an arcade one day. While referred to as being like Power Stone, Spawn seperates
itself through great graphics and BLOOD! Lots of BLOOD!
As you read this FAQ, keep in mind that it is based of the Japanese version of
the game. Besides the obvious differences this game, for the most part, should
still be the same. I'd imagine that the network options would be removed or
changed.
************************************************
2) Main Menu
************************************************
I. Arcade Mode - play the game as it appeared in the arcade. Depending on the
number of controllers plugged in, you may select one to four players
A) Boss Attack - depending on your selected character you will fight a
series of bosses.
1) Single Play - the character you have chosen will fight eight
bosses alone. Beating the game will unlock a character if you have
not done so with the same character already.
2) Multiplay (with cpu assist) - select a character and a computer
controlled partner to fight 12-14 bosses together. Depending on
the number of times you finish this mode a character will be
unlocked.
NOTE: To advance in boss mode, you must defeat the boss within the
time limit. Dying will take 2-12 seconds off the clock.
B) Battle Royal - you and three other characters will play an every
man/woman for themselves single match.Whoever ends up with the most
points after the time limit has expired, wins.
C) Team Battle - you and a friend (or a computer controlled assist) will
fight another two player team. The second team will be CPU controlled
if there are no human players. The team with the most points at the end
of the time limit, wins.
NOTE: Killing yourself in Battle Royal or Team Battle will give you
-3 points. Also, after completing Battle Royal or Team Battle, you
will be given the chance to retry, change characters, or end.
II. Tournament Mode - play longer versions of the Battle Royal and Team Battle
Modes.
A) Team Battle - you and a computer controlled team mate will fight a
series of two player teams. Every X matches you must meet a certain
amount of required points to advance to the next set of matches. If
this is accomplished, your game will be automatically saved at this
point. Completing all matches will add art for the character you have
selected to the art gallery.
B) Battle Royal - you and a series of three CPU controlled opponents will
battle an everyone for themselves match. Every X matches you must meet
a certain amount of required points to advance to the next set of
matches. Completing this mode seems to yield nothing.
NOTE: To advance in both modes you must either have the most points
at the end of the time limit or meet the level's set number of points
(assuming you have the highest number of points). Again, killing
yourself will give you -3 points.
III. Network Mode - I am unable to access this option. I would imagine this is
for net multi-play.
IV. Homepage - 3 guesses and the first two don't count.
V. Gallery - view the art you have gathered from Tournament Team Battle Mode.
Here you can also see the list of items you have gathered from all of your
characters thus far.
VI. Options - adjust the game's options to your choosing.
A) Difficulty; adjust from 1 to 8. 1 being easiest and 8 being hardest.
B) Violence Level; adjust from 0 to 3. Although I don't see much
difference, I'd imagine 0 is least violent and 3 is most violent.
C) Damage; adjust from 0 to 7. 0 deals small damage and 7 does great
damage.
D) Boss Mode Time; adjust the time you get in Boss Mode from 30 seconds to
60 minutes.
E) Team Mode Time; adjust the time you get in Team Mode from 30 seconds to
60 minutes.
F) Battle Royal Mode Time; adjust the time you get in Battle Royal Mode
from 30 seconds to 60 minutes.
G) Penalty Time; adjust the number of seconds taken off the clock when you
die in boss mode.0-3
H) Controls; adjust what buttons do what accordingly.
I) Camera; adjust the camera controls.
J) Sound; choose either Mono or Stereo.
K) Default; restore all options to their default settings
************************************************
3) Controls
************************************************
Default controls are as follows:
x - attack, action
a - jump
b - switch item/weapon
y - same as L trigger
L trigger - center the camera behind you or hold it down to look around.
R trigger - attack and jump buttons together.
Start - select/pause
Directional Pad - run/walk/lumber in desired direction.
Analog Stick - not used. D'oh?
************************************************
4) Game Mechanics
************************************************
"Special Moves" - for certain characters, hitting buttons simultaneously will
do a transformation or special attack. This is made easier with the R trigger
(attack and jump button).
Dashing - some characters can dash if a direction on the d-pad is double
tapped.
Rolling - hold view button and double tap left or right. Hold on the last tap
to roll longer. Once you start rolling it is not necessary to hold
the view button. Also, when you start rolling it's possible to move
in other direction besides left and right.
Double Jump - some characters may jump again in air after the initial jump.
This applies to all the hunter angel characters ( Grace, Soleil,
etc.).
Transformation - pressing attack, jump, and item together will cause the
character to transform if he/she is able.
NOTE: Transformation abilities normally drain life. For Spawn this will
activate his cape allowing him to jump higher, but will not drain life.
Opening Chests/Getting Items - through out the game you will see chests (long
boxes) laying on the ground. To open them walk up to it so it
changes shades of color, when it does press attack. When an item
appears, stand in the dotted square on the ground and press
attack to pick it up. If fists are selected the item will be
added at the end of your items. If your inventory is full, the
last item will be replaced. If a weapon is selected while getting
an item, you will swapyour selected weapon with the item.
Double Items - If you have two of the same items next to each other in your
inventory, you may be able to equip both at once by pressing the
item button when the first of the two items is selected. Nothing
is sweeter than Spawn having two M-60's at once (check out the
reload animation).
Reloading - once your gun has run out of bullets, let off the attack button to
reload. Holding down the button on an automatic weapon when empty
will cause the gun to click indefinetly.
NOTE: some items such as grenades and mines run out and cannot be reloaded.
Also, once dynamite is set down it will explode after the timer runs out or
when the attack button is pressed again.
Power-Up Orbs - scattered in the levels are different colored orbs that raise
ceratin stats. Defence, Speed, Weapon power, and Life recovery. When playing in
a night level, grabbing an orb will give you limited night vision.
Boxes/Rocks - some boxes and rocks may be damaged and broken. Either items or
orbs may come out of destroyed boxes/rocks. When bare fisted, face a box and
hit attack + jump. This will cause some characters to pick up or smash boxes
in one hit.
NOTE: Be careful of barrels and boxes with skulls on them. These will explode
if hit. ( Take that bo.......AHHH, MY FACE!!!)
Getting hit - after getting knocked off your feet, you will turn transparent
when you hit the ground for a very small amount of time.During this time you
are invincible and should take advantage of attacking or running away. This
will happen to enemies too so be careful to get some distance after you knock
them down.
Lava/Cliffs - on some levels there may be a lava pit or cliff edge. Falling
into/off these will kill you. Some boss characters are also vulnarable to this
excluding Black Brimstone and Gatekeeper on their level.
Laser Sight - you may notice a little headset on some of the characters when
they start. This emits a green line that will beep whenan enemy is in your
sights and will lock onto them.
************************************************
5) Characters
************************************************
The game will start with twelve selectable characters. As you defeat boss mode
in single and multiplay, new characters will become available. For more
information, see the unlocking characters section.
The characters that are available before unlocking more are Clown, Tiffany,
Spawn, Sam, Twitch, Brimstone, Grace, Cogliostro, Tremor, Jessica, Redeemer,
and Al Simmons. These make up for 12 of the 36 boxes. God bless Capcom and
their question boxes.
Each of the twelve starting characters come with at least two types of weapons.
As a last resort you can use bare fists if the ammo being used is depleteable.
Some of the other twenty-four characters have only the option of using their
bare fists and may not pick up any other waepons.
When an enemy is killed they will sometimes leave behind a weapon. If your
character is not compatable with that weapon, it will appear transparent with
an X through it. However, all items that come out of a chest you open can be
accuired.
Here is a list of the thirty-seven playable characters and a list of their
moves and starting items:
Note: items in parenthesis are not available at start up in boss mode.
[1] Al Simmons - Bare fists, (Stinger), Mini-gun, Grenades.
A) Bare fists - Al has two combat knives equiped and can perform a standard
knock down combo and a rapid hit combo.
1) Swinging combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Rapid Stab combo - done by pressing attack + jump, continue
pressing attack after initial hit.
B) Mini-gun - a very fierce weapon with lots of ammo and a high rate of
fire. Cannot be reloaded.
C) Grenades - thrown in bunches of three and have a good area of impact.
D) Stinger - Al also gets a rocket launcher with 3 missiles fired at once.
This has a big blast radius and will detonate if a rocket hits an object
before reaching it's target so be careful.
Al is a very good character with decent speed, good fire power, and good
bare hand attacks.
[2] Brimstone - Bare fists, Double saber, (Sword of flame), Napalm.
A) Bare fists - Brimstone can do a punch combo with a delated uppercut and
can shoot a fireball.
1) Punch/Uppercut combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Fireball - done by pressing attack + jump
B) Double saber - spinning hit combo with pop up at the end. The pop-up can
be done by itself and will launch the enemy behind brimstone.
1) Spin Hit combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Pop-up hit - done by pressing attack + jump.
C) Sword of flame - slicing up and down with a downward slice finisher, and
a slice-spin-stab motion.
1) Slice combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Slice/Spin/Stab combo - done by pressing attack + jump repeatedly.
D) Napalm - a small flame in the form of a circle burns when the canister
hits the ground.
E) Transformed state - press attack + jump + item to transform into a
bigger/more powerful version of Brimstone. Brimstone's life will slowly
drain while in transformed state. Press attack + jump + item to revert
back to original form.
A) Bare fists
1) Punch combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Fireball - done by pressing attack + jump
3) Air fireball - press attack in air to throw a fireball downwards.
B) Hellfire
1) Punch combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Air fireball - press attack in the air to throw a fireball
downwards.
3) Earthquake attack - hold down attack + jump until Brimstone pounds
the ground. This move drains all life.
Brimstone is an excellent short ranged character with good attacks.
Transformed state drains life at a desireable pace.
[3] Black Brimstone - Bare fists
A) Bare fists
1) Standard Combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Charge fireball - done by pressing attack + jump. The longer it's
held the more fireballs that will be fired.
3) Air fireball - done by pressing attack in air.
Grossly overpowered. Takes almost no damage from hits and does a lot
of damage with his attack. Decent speed.
[4] Jessica - Bare fists, Beretta x 2, (Mp5k)
A) Bare fists- stab combo with a spin hit finish, spinning hits combo, dash
attack followed by a spinning uppercut.
1) Stab combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Spin Hit combo - done by leaving d-pad unheld and pressing attack.
3) Dash/Spin Upper - done by pressing attack + jump, then attack +
jump again when dash hits enemy.
B) Beretta - one or both berettas may be equipped. The second can be
equipped by pressing item button and highlighting the second gun if they
are together in inventory. When any gun is equipped, Jessica can do a
pop-up kick. It is then possible to shoot the target in the air or as
they hit they ground after the pop-up.
1) Pop up kick - done by pressing attack + jump.
C) MP5K - can fire 10, 5 round bursts before reloading.
Jessica is a very good character. Her berettas can continue to hit
after the enemy is popped up with them. She is also very fast making
her hard to hit between her firing and running.
[5] Sam - Bare fists, (Panzer faust), Spas-12, Dynamite
A) Bare fists - does a right left swing that knocks down the opponent. When
Sam is down to about 10% life he will turn red until he dies or regains
enough life back. While Sam is red he is faster and his punches do an
incredible amount of damage.
1) Swing hits - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Life regain - done by pressing attack + jump. Very little life
regained.
3) "Angry" mode - activated when life is around 10%.
B) Panzer faust - rocket launcher that does an average amount of damage.
Careful not to fire too close to target.
C) Spas-12 - spreadfire shotgun that does decent damage. After firing once
Sam must reload.
D) Dynamite - bundle of dynamite sticks that detonates in 9 seconds unless
attack is pressed again to manually detonate.
Sam is a pretty good character. Although he is very slow, his "angry"
mode makes up for it. However, "angry" mode may not mean much against
distance fighters.
[6] Twitch - Bare fists, Pistol, Assault rifle, (Flame-thrower)
A) Bare fists - Twitch can only do a left jab with bare fists. useless.
B) Pistol - high calibur pistol with six shots, not bad
C) Assault rifle - good range and can go through multiple targets. Must
reload after every shot.
D) Flame thrower - sprays a stream of flame. Recharges at an alright pace
after firing.
Twitch isn't very good in my opinion. He has decent speed and his rifle
has a very good range. However, it seems to take him a while to reload
on top of the fact that it doesn't do a whole lot of damage.
[7] Redeemer - Bare fists, Spear arm, Edged arm, Gun arm
A) Bare fists
1) Punch combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Dash Attack - done by pressing attack + jump, very good damage but
drains life.
B) Spear arm - double slice attack, can attack opponent again as they hit
the ground.Thrust attack turns the opponent to stone for a few seconds.
1) Double Slice attack - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Thrust attack - done by pressing attack + jump.
C) Edged arm - pop-up attack is a downward slice that freezes the enemy if
it hits. If timed right, Redeemer can infinitly pop up an enemy without
them recovering.
1) Pop Up attack - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Freeze attack - done by pressing attack + jump.
D) Gun arm - Using gun arm will drain Redeemer's life.
1) Bullet stream - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Explosive shot - done by pressing attack + jump.
Redeemer is a very good character. Having very good up close and
distance fighting can make him a threat anywhere. Decent speed.
[8] Overtkill - Bare fists
A) Bare fists - does two very powerful yet slow hits when attacking. Charge
attack will cause Overtkill to hunch over for a few seconds and lunge
forward for a powerful hit. Ground smash causes Overtkill to hit the
ground with both fists and heavily damages those close enough. Laser,
head reels back for a few seconds and fires a laser beam that moves left
and right about 45 degrees.
1) Two hit uppercuts - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Charge attack - done by pressing attack + jump.
3) Ground smash - done by pressing attack + jump + item.
4) Laser - done by pressing attack + item.
5) Dash - double tapping the d-pad in any direction will cause
Overtkill to dash in that direction.
Although Overtkill is very slow, his power makes up for it. His size
makes him a good target and tends to die fast. Average character.
[9] Spawn - Bare fists, M-60, (Mp5k), Grenades
A) Bare fists - punch combo, on next to last hit the opponent will be
popped up, on the last hit spawn should hit them with a straight fist on
the way down pushing them away. Chain attack, if an enemy is hit by
Spawn's chains they will be stunned temporarily. A purple glow will emit
if they made contact. Chain attack drains a small amount of life.
1) Punch combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Chain attack - done by pressing attack + jump.
B) M-60 - a damaging reloadable gun with a good amount of ammo. knocks down
weaker enemies after so many hits.
C) Mp5k - okay gun. Fires bullets in bursts of 5.
D) Grenades - throw n' blow single grenades.
E) Cape - pressing attack + jump + item will activate Spawn's cape for a
few seconds. This enables Spawn to jump higher while the cape is active.
Spawn is more of a distance fighter. His punch combo doesn't do much
damage. Good speed.
[10] Spawn I - Bare fists, Beretta, Short sword, Grenades
A) Bare fists - punch-kick combo, the beginning is similar to Spawn's. After
the enemy is popped up, continue to press attack and Spawn I will jump up
and kick the enemy and kick them again on the way down. Sometimes it is
possible to restart the combo as the enemy hits the ground. Spawns chain
attack, if an enemy is hit by spawns chains they will be stunned
temporarily. A purple glow will emit if they made contact. Chain attack
drains a small amount of life.
1) Punch/Jump kick combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Chain attack - done by pressing attack + jump.
B) Beretta - standard 6 shot hand gun, can be reloaded.
C) Short sword - good use with Spawn I. Pressing attack will do two slices.
Downward slash, slice, and upward slash. A good combo is to hit attack,
attack, attack + jump x 3. the enemy will be knocked down after first two
hits and then can be hit by attack + jump combo.
1) Double slice - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Down/Across/Up slash - done by pressing attack + jump.
D) Grenades - throw n' blow single grenades.
E) Cape - pressing attack + jump + item will activate Spawn I's cape for a
few seconds. This enables Spawn I to jump higher while the cape is
active.
Spawn I is a good close up fighter. Try attacking with bare fists then
switching to a sword and attacking. This is good when Spawn I hits
them with the last jump kick, switching to the sword and using the
attack + jump attack before they turn transparent. Try different
methods to get the max damage out of the attack. It is also possible
to restart a combo if you are quick and the timing is right. Fun to
toy around with. Good speed.
[11] Tiffany - Bare hands, (Sword of lightning), Tiffany's sword, Knife
A) Bare hands
1) Sweep Kicks - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Jumping knee - done by pressing attack + jump.
B) Sword of lightning - 3 slice quick, dash upper; after dashing at enemy,
excecute again to do the uppercut.
1) Quick slice combo - done by pressing attack in any direction
2) Dash/Uppercut - done by pressing attack +jump.
C) Tiffany's sword - 4 sweep slice, dash upper; after dashing at enemy,
excecute again to do the uppercut.
1) Slice combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Dash/Uppercut - done by pressing attack + jump.
D) Knife - throw.
E) Double jump - press jump after the initial jump.
Good speed and good manuverability. Double jumping towards gun
fighters make it easier to get in close to hit them without them
knocking you away. Double jumping is also good for getting away or
getting somewhere high. Sweeping hits are good for numerous close
enemies as Tiffany can change direction while attacking.
[12] Grace - Bare hands, (Battle lance), Normal lance, Knife
A) Bare hands
1) Punch/Kick - done by pressing attack in any direction.
B) Battle lance - 4 sweep hits, pole vault kick
1) Sweep hit combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Pole vault kick - done by pressing attack + jump.
C) Normal lance - sweep sweep kick, running vault
1) Sweep hit/Kick combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Running vault kick - done by pressing attack + jump.
D) Knife - throw
Similar to Tiffany. Good speed and manuverability. Double jumping
towards gun fighters make it easier to get in close to hit them
without them knocking you away. Double jumping is also good for
getting away or getting somewhere high. Sweeping hits are good for
numerous close enemies as Grace can change direction while attacking.
[13A] Clown - Bare fists, Chainsaw, Dragon, Balloon bomb
A) Bare hands
1) Mallet - done by pressing attack in any direction. Enemy is dizzy
after hit.
2) Extening glove - done by pressing attack + jump, good range, good
for knocking in pits.
B) Chainsaw
1) Slash - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Stab - done by pressing attack + jump.
C) Dragon - one shot rocket launcher, very powerful and big blast radius.
Homes into target when locked on.
D) Balloon bomb - bomb tied to a balloon that floats. Somewhat similar to
the air mine except it keeps going up.
E) Transformation - done by pressing attack + jump + item. Clown turns into
Violator.
[13B] Violator - Bare hands, Violator fire, Violater flame, Violater blast
A) Bare handed
1) Slash/Lunge - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Pop-Up - done by pressing attack + jump. Can hit again as enemy
falls back down, very damaging.
B) Violator fire - done by pressing attack + jump while violator fire is
selected. Violator fires a series of small fireballs.
C) Violator flame - done by pressing attack + jump while violator flame is
selected. Violator breathes a long stream of fire.
D) Violator blast - done by pressing attack + jump while violator blast is
selected. Violator fires a cluster of fireballs.
While in clown form, Violator is somewhat slow and cannot do any
multiple hit knock down attacks. His extending glove is good for fights
such as the smelter and glacier. Getting hit with the glove will knock
the enemy a very good distance back making it easy to knock them in
pits. The mallet is good for subduing enemy long enough to transform
and do the pop-up hits. When in Violator form, Violator has good speed
and does very damaging attacks. Doing a double pop up attack on a
normal enemy will kill them. However, life drains very fast while in
Violator form. Will not fall down when getting shot in Violator form.
[14] Tremor - Bare fists, (Battle claw), Iron claw
A) Bare hands - 3 hit attack, charge , upper, extend
1) Punch combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) 3 part combo - done by pressing attack + jump 3 times, hold on the
last hit to extend claw.
B) Battle claw - 3 spin attack, extend claw
1) Spin combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Claw extend - done by pressing attack + jump, hold to extend claw
further.
C) Iron claw - same as Battle claw
1) Spin combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Claw extend - done by pressing attack + jump, hold to extend claw
further.
Tremor has decent speed and good damage with claw extend attack.
Tapping attack + jump will send the claw out a moderate distance. If
attack + jump is held the claw will extend to it's fullest length. If
a normal enemy is hit when the claw is at the full length they will be
killed.
[15] Cogliostro - Bare fists, Magic missile fist, Electric fist, Flame fist
A) Bare fists
1) Knife attack - done by pressing attack in any direction.
B) Magic Missile fist
1) Magic missile - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Life regenerator - done by pressing attack + jump.
C) Electric fist
1) Electric beam - done by pressing attack in any direction.
D) Flame fist
1) Ground flame - done by pressing attack in any direction.
Cog's hits won't knock an enemy down unless they are hit concecutively.
He has lag time after firing his shots which leaves him open to
attack. Not so good speed. His magic missile is very good if a lot
of them are fired. After a while the missiles seek in to the closest
enemies, nice. The life regenerator takes a long time to form and isn't
really effective if you're in the middle of a fight.
[16] Cy-Gor - Bare fists
A) Bare fists - 2 swing, charge , rush attack at end. fireball charge 3 way.
1) Swing hits - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Charge attack - done by pressing attack + jump.
3) Rush - done by pressing attack + jump + item.
4) 3 way fireball - done by pressing attack + item.
5) Backflip - press jump. If close enough, backflip will hit for
damage.
Cy-gor has good speed and damage. The computer is able to hit with his
jump but I seem to be unable to do this.
[17] Soleil - Bare fists
A) Bare fists - beam, spinning kicks , spinning blade attacks, super beam
shot(drains life).
1) Beam - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Super beam - done by pressing and holding attack + jump. Drains
life when used.
3) Spinning kicks - done by pressing attack + jump, continue pressing
attack to do additional hits.
4) Spinning blade attack - done by pressing attack + jump, continue
pressing attack to do additional hits.
5) Double jump - press jump again after the initial jump.
Good speed and range. Severe advantage fighting other characters.
Unlimited beams give a somewhat unfair advantage. Since Soleil has no
laser sight, her aiming can be off a lot. Her super beam shot goes
through walls and other obstacles and can be heavily abused while
jumping.
[18] Angel Teneres - Bare fists
A) Bare fists - slice kick slice slice, blade throw (drains life)
1) Slice/Kick combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Blade shot - done by pressing attack + jump.
Angel Teneres has good speed and is very powerful. If all the hits on
her combo connect on a normal character, they will be killed. Blade
shot can hit twice before enemy turns transparent. Blade shot can be
abused while jumping.
[19] Skeleton I - Bare fists, M-60
A) Bare fists - left jab, useless
1) Left jab - done by pressing attack in any direction.
B) M-60 - rattatat
Ugghh, if this guy didn't have the m-60, he'd be close to Zombie I
uselessness. Slow, lousy attack, even his m-60 seems to be worse than
other m-60 users.
[20] Green Beret A - Bare fists
A) Bare fists
1) 3 slice combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Dash slice - done by pressing attack + jump, when some distance
away.
3) Flip kick - done by pressing attack + jump, when close.
Green Beret A is somewhat slow and not very damaging.
[21] The Mafia - Bare fists, Pistol
A) Bare fists
1) Punch/Kick combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Kick - done by pressing attack + jump.
B) Beretta - bang! six shots.
Slow, not very damaging. Another weak character.
[22] Hell Spawn - Bare fists
A) Bare fists
1) Leaping hammer fist - done by pressing attack + jump.
2) Fire ball - done by pressing jump + item.
3) Flame breath - done by pressing attack + item.
4) Multi hit - done by pressing attack in any direction.
5) Shoulder charge - done by pressing attack + jump + item.
A lot of fun to play. His combo does a variety of hits ending in the
air. Doesn't do a lot of damage but can be used to knock into pits.
Hell Spawn's shoulder charge can be used on an enemy 'till they die if
you are quick and have the right control.
[23] Army A - Bare fists
A) Bare fists
1) Punch combo - done by pressing attack in any direction. A variety
of jabs and uppercuts.
2) Flip kick - done by pressing attack + jump.
Kinda slow and not really powerful. Nice punches though.
[24] Angels E - Bare fists, Cross bow
A) Bare fists
1) Right hook - done by pressing attack in any direction.
B) Cross bow - 3 way shot. Reloadable.
C) Double jump - press jump again after the initial jump.
Good speed and mobiltiy using double jump. Using fists probably isn't a
good idea. A close up shot with the cross bow will do 3 hits for good
damage.
[25] Vindicator - Bare fists
A) Bare fists
1) Slash combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Slash/stomp - done by pressing attack + jump twice.
3) Lightning summon - done by pressing attack + jump + item. infinite
range and very abusable.
4) Electric breath - done by pressing attack + item. can rotate while
executing attack.
5) Electric spheres - done by pressing jump + item.
6) Jump - done by pressing jump. If close enough to an enemy/object it
will hit for damage.
Vindicator can be considered very cheap. His lightning summon attack
can hit anywhere and consumes no life to use. Highly accurate since
it can hit running targets but will occasionaly miss close up. Most
likely if an enemy is below a dropoff. Will not fall down when getting
shot.
[26] The Curse - Bare fists, Boss ext 1, Boss ext 2 , Boss ext 3
A) Bare fists
1) Swinging hits/Thrust - done by pressing attack in any direction.
B) Ext 1 - flame stream
C) ext 2 - magic missile
D) ext 3 - Explosive missile, takes life to use.
His attacks don't seem to connect well. The flame thrower extension
can't seem to hit the enemy until it is concentrated on them for a
while and his blade attacks seem to have to much time in between hits.
Decent speed.
[27] Soldier I - Bare fists, Flame thrower
A) Bare fists - left left right kick, kick
1) Punch/Kick combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Kick - done by pressing attack + jump.
B) Flame thrower - sprays a stream of fire. Recharges at an alright place.
A lot of fun to play as. Looks cool and has good speed. Need to get
pretty close for all hits in combo to connect.
[28] Vandalizer - Bare fists
A) Bare fists
1) Flame breath - done by pressing attack in any direction. Can rotate
while executing attack.
2) Slash/stomp - done by pressing attack + jump twice.
3) Shoulder charge - done by pressing attack + jump + item. hunches
down for a few seconds and lunges forward.
4) Double slash - done by pressing attack + item twice.
5) Fireball - done by pressing jump + item. throws head back and
charges fireball.
6) Jump - done by pressing jump. If close enough to an enemy/object,
jump will hit for damage.
Who needs Godzilla? Vandalizer is not the biggest of the Violator
brothers which is good. Good variety of attacks. Flame breath on attack
button is somewhat annoying. I don't see why flame couldn't be
attack + item. Will not fall down when getting shot.
[29] Wolf I - Bare fists
A) Bare fists - running bite, pressing attack will cause Wolf I to jump
forward and bite. Good for knocking into/off pits/cliffs. Flame breath
can be restarted any number of times.
1) Running bite - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Flame breath - done by pressing attack + jump. Tap again while
breathing fire to restart animation.
This is another fun character to play as, although you probably won't
be able to go through boss mode with him. A good strategy is hit and
run.
[30] Admonisher - Bare fists, M-60, Panzer faust, Mini-gun
A) Bare fists
1) Hammer punch - done by pressing attack in any direction.
B) M-60 - a damaging reloadable gun with a good amount of ammo. knocks down
weaker enemies after so many hits.
C) Panzer faust - rocket launcher that does an average amount of damage.
Careful not to fire too close to target.
D) Mini-gun - a very fierce weapon with lots of ammo and a high rate of
fire. Cannot be reloaded.
I can't see any downpoint to this guy. He's fast, powerful, and is armed
to the teeth. Two of his weapons are depletable but his m-60 can be
reloaded. Even his standard punch is powerful. Try hitting an enemy then
running to them as they roll back and hit them again before they turn
transparant. If you picked up a weapon power up orb a normal enemy should
die in two hits.
[31] Dark Ages Spawn - Bare fists, Battle axe, Two handed sword
A) Bare fists
1) Right uppercut - done by pressing attack in any direction.
B) Battle axe
1) Heavy slice - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Lifting slice - done by pressing attack + jump.
C) Two handed sword
1) Circle slice - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Downward slash - done by pressing attack + jump.
Decent speed and very powerful. It's a good idea to have his Two handed
sword equiped as it attacks faster than his axes. Dark Ages Spawn's
downward slash should kill normal enemies in one hit. This is the only
version of Spawn without a cape.
[32] Spawn IV - Bare fists, M-60 x 2, Panzer faust
A) Bare fists
1) Punch combo - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Chain attack - done by pressing attack + jump.
B) M-60 - a damaging reloadable gun with a good amount of ammo. knocks down
weaker enemies after so many hits.
C) Panzer faust - rocket launcher that does an average amount of damage.
Careful not to fire too close to target.
D) Cape - done by pressing attack + jump+ item. Spawn IV can jump higher
while cape is active.
Good advantage with duel M-60's at start up. Very slow, but shouldn't
matter much since you should be driving others away with your firepower.
If his slowness bothers you that much just roll, it's faster.
[33] Vacillator - Bare fists
A) Bare fists
1) Slash attack - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Slash/stomp - done by pressing attack + jump twice.
3) Ice spheres - done by pressing jump + item.
4) Ice breath - done by pressing attack + item. Can rotate while
attacking.
Alright speed and good damage in attacks. A big target is what makes
him a downside. Can fall prey to distance fighters. Will not fall down
while getting shot.
[34] Vaporizer - Bare fists
A) Bare fists
1) Slash attack - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Slash/stomp - done by pressing attack + jump twice.
3) Mist breath - done by pressing attack + item. Can rotate while
attacking.
4) Rock throw - done by pressing jump + item.
Similar to the other Violater type characters. This guy is huge, which
makes him a very big target. Good for in close. Will not fall down when
getting shot.
[35] Zombie I - Bare fists
A) Bare fists
1) Lunging punches - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Falling hit - done by pressing attack + jump.
Zombie I is, in my opinion, THE worst character in the game. Play him
against friends for laughs but not much else. He is ungodly slow, cannot
jump, and has no real damaging moves that I know of.
[36] Gatekeeper - Bare fists, Boss ext 1, Boss ext 2
A) Bare fists - two slice, flame summon, dash slice
1) Double slice - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Flame summon - done by pressing attack + jump + item.
3) Dash/slice - done by pressing attack + jump.
B) Boss ext 1 - explosive projectile. flame summon, dash slice.
1) Projectile - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Flame summon - done by pressing attack + jump + item.
3) Dash/slice - done by pressing attack + jump.
C) Boss ext 2
1) Projectile - done by pressing attack in any direction.
2) Flame summon - done by pressing attack + jump + item.
3) Dash/Slice - done by pressing attack + jump
[37] Curse Sub - Bare fist, Grenade, Land mine , Air mine
A) Bare fists
1) Jumping flail - done by pressing attack in any direction.
B) Grenade - throw n' blow.
C) Land mine - standard land mine.
D) Air mine - floating mine. Detonates when perimeter is breached. (I
must've been watching Star Trek).
Fun to play as but not very practical. Somewhat slow and has a hard time
throwing his grenades.

6) Levels/Boss fights
************************************************
This section will outline fighting the bosses on the level they may appear
on. Sometimes a boss will be fought on a different level due to the
character selected or pace of progress in the game.
Note: if I don't specify a strategy for distance fighters, the best method
is to play keep away and attack when there is good distance.
Boss Mode, Single Play - bosses are fought in the following order.
1) The Mafia
A) Dark Alley - this level is very simple and straight forward. Boss's
helpers are weak and don't do much damage. No spectacular items here.
When The Mafia appears he will start out with bare fists and do his
pathetic combo. Once he is near death, he will draw his gun which
isn't anything to fear. I've beaten this level with Zombie I.
2) The Curse/ Soleil - the character you pick determines which one of these
you will fight on the second level. Holy characters such as Tiffany,
Grace, and Redeemer will fight Soleil at the helipad while the rest will
fight The Curse in the sewer.
A) Sewer - now you will come across more background obstacles such as
exploding barrels and fire from broken pipes. Again there are weak
Boss helpers but with somewhat more powerful guns that Soldier I and
II hold. When The Curse appears, Curse Subs will now become another
Boss helper on this level. Nothing to fear. Now you can start
unloading your heavy guns on bosses without them falling down. The
only thing to watch out for is The Curse's magic missiles. Besides
that stand back and wait for an opportunity to attack.
B) Helipad - not a dangerous level either. Helpers can start to get
annoying here. My method is to stay on the helipad until Soleil
appears and fight her there. When she does, keep moving. Watch out
when she jumps because she may do her large beam attack.
3) Vandalizer
A) Arena - your first arena fight. Not a whole lot of places to go here.
If you have a gun character, stay on the top part of the level and
fire in the pit area where Vandalizer is. If you have a close up
character, try to read Vandalizer before moving in. When Vandalizer
hunches down for his charge, get out of the way and let him zoom by.
When he does run in behind him and let him have it. Try to get some
extra hits as he falls down before temporary invincibility. Boss
helpers aren't too bad yet. Don't forget that item chest behind the
rocks, but don't let Vandalizer catch you while opening it.
4) Cy-Gor
A) Forest - Lots of obstacles in the majority of the level. Use them to
your advantage. The Wolf helpers have a quick attack but not for much
damage. Bust the boxes in front of you down at the start of the level
to reveal an item chest. Cy-gor can be annoying. His jumps can hit for
an attack and he also likes to play keep away. Again, try to read what
Cy-gor is about to do. If he's hunching down for a charge, let him
through and follow behind to pound him. Also beware that his fireball
charge stance looks similar. You should be able to see his mouth
glowing if so.
5) Admonisher - according to character, can be fought in two locations.
A) Smelter - the easiest place to fight Admonisher. Now boss helper's get
annoying more so. Getting hit by machine gun fire is very aggravating.
At the beginning of the smelter you should be facing a hole. Look
forward and there should be two exit doorways. One in the north wall
and one on the west wall near the north exit. Go in the north exit,
down the hall and down the first part of the stairs. Now open the door
in front of you(perpendicular to the stair case). Take out the Soldier
and open the item boxes to get some goodies. If you are Jessica this
is where you get the first curse sword. If you still have time, beat
feet to where you started and drop down the hole. Now you should be
on top of a little construct with a stair case to the front and to the
back. If your character has a pop up attack or a combo ending in a pop
up, wait for Admonisher to appear and pop him off the consrtuct. If
done right he will fall in the lava and die instantly. If you just
managed to knock him down to the lower level, try to time jumping down
when he ends his mini gun firing. Now try to knock him over the rail
into the lava. Another way to knock him in is to stand in front of him
as he fires a rocket. The explosion should knock him backwards and
possible into the lava.
B) Control Room - a little harder than the smelter. Boss helpers aren't
as strong though. Going forward a couple of rooms at the start past
the monitor room should bring you to a room of helpers along with some
weapons and an item chest. The Main room (monitor room) is where you
should fight Admonisher. Hide behind the construction until he stops
firing and run forward to nail him.
6) Overtkill
A) Arena - stronger helpers and more obstacles. Try to kill the boss
helpers that have lasers, they are the most damaging. Try to get
helpers between you and overtkill, more than likely he'll take them
out. When overtkills head pulls back start running to the side. Once
he fires the laser, move in safely behind him and attack. Another
attack to look out for is his ground punch. His will raise his arms
above his head before slamming them down. When this happens jump or
get some distance between you and Overtkill. And as always, watch out
when overtkill pulls one arm back and hunches down. Move out of the
way and let him zoom by. When he does follow in behind and nail him.
7) Vaporizer
A) Wasteland - vaporizer appears at the start along with some skeleton
helpers with m-60's. Try to stay close to vaporizer and he will most
likely take care of the helpers for you. His move to watch out for is
the purple mist breath. When you see him blowing it at you. Jump
towards and to his side landing behind him. Attack as soon as you
land or he may turn and attack. As he gets up, run a tight circle
around him and attack again. repeat to victory.
Boss Mode, Multiplay - bosses are fought in the following order.
1) The Mafia
A) Dark Alley - this level is very simple and straight forward. Boss's
helpers are weak and don't do much damage. No spectacular items here.
When The Mafia appears he will start out with bare fists and do his

get some distance between you and Overtkill. And as always, watch out
when overtkill pulls one arm back and hunches down. Move out of the
way and let him zoom by. When he does follow in behind and nail him.
7) Vindicator
A) Path to wasteland - very similar to the area in single boss mode where
you fought vaporizer. Helpers on this stage are nothing to worry
about. The zombies in the main area can be ignored completely due to
their slowness. I wouldn't recommend close in combos unless your hits
connect rapidly. If you do a slower combo, Vindicator may jump and do
some damage. The best way to take care of him is get far away enough
so he fires his electric spheres and run back in under them. Get some
hits in to knock him down and get some distance again. Hopefully
if you keep moving his lightning summon will miss if he tries.
8) Black Brimstone
A) Inferno - this level is against you. Either narrow hallways or narrow
ledges near open lava pits. Helpers here are annoying. Skeletons with
m-60's and some have shotguns. If you have a long range weapon, stand
on top of the cliff in the center of the stage and fire down on Black
Brimstone. If you are a close in fighter, use the rocky structures in
the middle of the stage to shield yourself from brimstone's fireballs.
After he fires, run in and do some damage. After you knock him down
run behind the rocks again.
9) Vaporizer
A) Arena - don't you love these levels. Helpers are armed with m-60's and
shotguns. When you get a moment try to take them out. Or stay close to
Vaporizer and have him destroy them for you or better yet, the helpers
may hit vaporizer trying to hit you. Stay somewhat close at all times
and try to hit him after he jumps or after he attacks. If he breathes
his purple mist jump by his head to the left and try to land behind
him. Start attacking as soon as you land or he may turn around and hit
you. After you knock him down, run a close circle around him until you
can hit him again.
10) Vacillator * - if you reach this part under 10 minutes, Vacillator will
be fought in a "secret" level. If not he will be fought on a glacier.
A) Glacier - helpers here consist of soldiers with snow guns and angels
with crossbows and lasers. All sides of the level can be fallen off
of. Use it to your advantage when Vacillator appears. Run to the
sides of one of the cliffs and let Vacillator get close. Start
running at him and he should shoot some ice spheres. Hook around
behind him and knock him off. If he hasn't fallen in the first time,
get a little distance and run in again to try to knock him over.
B) Cave - as the level starts, head to the far end of either side of
this level. Going backwards from where you start will take you back
a couple of rooms. When you reach a wall, hit it until it breaks
revealing another room. Some scattered weapons are floating about. If
at the start of the level you run forward rather than backward, you
will approach a similar wall. Crack it open and walk in. Be on your
guard because Vandalizer may be in here to greet you. Open the chest
to find some goodies. This is where you can find sword of curse 2. As
for Vacillator, try to fight him in the room with the stalagmites for
cover. Hide behind them until he fires then run in and pummel him.
The helpers shouldn't bother you if the fight takes place in that
room. Walking further back will take you upon helpers with m-60's.
11) Gatekeeper
A) Inferno - same place you fought Black Brimstone. Helpers include
hellspawn, and skeletons with m-60's and shotguns. Gatekeeper isn't
that bad if there are no helpers around. Here is where the shotgun
wielders get annoying. Take them out if possible but keep note of
where Gatekeeper is. Three things to watch out for when attacking
him. If you see him hunch down with his arm in the air, he should
start generating flames. When he does this, jump at him and attack.
If his arm is aimed at you and glows white, start running in zig
zags. Hopefully his missile will miss. His other attack to look out
for is less suttle. He does a fast charge and will pretty much kill
you if he hits. Try jumping a lot to avoid this. If your character
has a good gun you can try to play keepaway on top of the overhead
cliff. Don't be surprised if he jumps up there to join you. If he
does, run in and attack before he recovers from landing.
12) Angel Teneres **
A) Dark Forest - same place where you fought Cy-gor. This is the
ultimate annoying helper level. Angels with crossbows, lasers, and
lightning swords. And to top it off, Soleil is on top of the hill.
At the start try to take out as many helpers as you can. When Angel
Teneres appears, hide behind the trees and wait for her to throw her
blades. When she does run out and attack.
13) Dark Ages Spawn **
A) Twisted roots - not a hard level. Dark Ages Spawn appears at the
start of the stage. Stay a good distance away so he does his jumping
slash. As he does, move to the side and attack when he hits the
ground. Make sure to check out the somewhat hidden rooms between the
red roots. I belive all the bottom items on the collection list can
be found on this level at different times.
14) Malebolgia
A) Hell - easiest level if you know what to do. There's a chest just
before Malebolgia but everytime I open it nothing comes out. Ignore
the hellspawn and run to the front of Malebolgia. You should a pile
of rocks in front of him. Jump over the rocks onto the small ledge to
avoid his fire breath. When it's clear, hit him in the mouth area
when he gets close. If you have a gun or long range object life is
much easier. If you are short range character, you will have to try
different things to hit him. One way is to hit his mouth as it passes
by breathing fire. Another way is to get the most length and height
out of a double jump and hit him before you hit the lava.
* - if Vacillator is reached under 10 minutes, you will fight him in a cave
rather than the glacier.
** - in order to fight Angel Teneres and Dark Ages Spawn you can't continue
if you die. I mean if time runs out.

7) Unlocking Characters
************************************************
Some may claim that unlocking characters is a random act of god but there is
definetly a set pattern for it. And no, Brimstone transformed is NOT Black
Brimstone. Here's what worked for me.
Beating the game on boss mode with character A will unlock character B. It can
be single or multi play, it matters not.
A B
--------------------------
Brimstone - Overtkill
Al Simmons - Skeleton I
Jessica - Green Beret A
Sam - The Mafia
Redeemer - Hell Spawn
Overtkill - Army A
Tiffany - Angels E
Grace - Soleil
Clown - Vindicator
Tremor - Cy-Gor
Spawn - The Curse
Twitch - Soldier I
Cogliostro - Vandalizer
Cy-Gor - Wolf I
Soleil - Angel Teneres
Vindicator - Vacillator
Vandalizer - Vaporizer
Hell Spawn - Gatekeeper
Gatekeeper - Zombie I
To unlock the next couple of characters, you must beat all the levels on boss
mode multiplay without continuing. After doing this so many times you will
unlock 4 more characters.
One time - Spawn I
Five times - Dark Ages Spawn
Ten times - Spawn IV
Fourteen times - Admonisher
The last character is obtained over time it seems. Playing the game long enough
will eventually unlock him. Unfortunately I can't say for sure that time
release is the correct method. I've also heard that having the last row of
items in the item collection list will unlock Black Brimstone.
Time release - Black Brimstone.
To select Black Brimstone, highlight Brimstone and hold both trigger buttons
while pressing A. Black Brimstone's picture should appear.

8) Items
************************************************
This section will not be as big as it should be. There are a lot of
Character/Box Location/Stage combinations to examine. Unfortunately I feel that
is a little too time consuming as of now. I will cover the items that may draw
questions and where to get them. If I get enough feedback and questions on
items, I will include a more in depth coverage in the newer version of this
FAQ. All you hafta do is ask folks:
[email protected]
Most of the items you are probably missing are on these stages:
Smelter, Vacillator's Cave, and Dark Ages Spawn's level.
Smelter - At the start of the level, you should be facing a square hole in the
floor. To the NorthWest, there should be two door openings. One on
the west wall, and one on the north wall. Go into the north doorway,
you should now be in a hallway with another doorway at the end.
Ignore the enemies and run through the next doorway. Now you should
be at the top of a stairway with some soldiers about. It's probably
a good idea to kill anyone near. Run down the first section of
stairs to the landing. There should be a couple of doors here. Open
the door perpendicular to the stairs you came down. That means the
one in front of you. Enter the door to find a room with about three
item chests and some floating items about. There may be a soldier in
here so take him out. Open the chest on the right to get the Sword of
Curse 1.
Now that you have Sword of Curse 1 you can obtain the Holy sword. All
you have to do is use the Sword of Curse 1 until the curse is
lifted and voila!, Holy sword.
Vacillator's Cave - At the start of this level you should start somewhere near
the middle. You can go to ways now, either straight north or
straight south. If you take the southern way (no not that southern
way) you will eventually come to a rock wall. Attack the wall
until it breaks and enter. Some gun items float about here with a
couple of skeleton helpers in there as well. Taking the north
route will bring you to a similar situation. Go far enough and
you will reach a rock wall. Attack it until it breaks and go on
in. Here there are some item chests and some floating weapon
items. Sometimes Vandalizer will be in there as well. This room
is where the Sword of Curse 2 can be found along with some othere
rarer items if you are the appropriate character.
Once again you can get another Sword from Sword of Curse 2. Just
use it long enough until the curse is lifted to get the Sword of
Legend.
Dark Ages Spawn's Level - First looking at this level may make you think it's
very confined to the area you start in. Hug the sides of the level
and look for some reddish colored roots. Go between the red roots to
enter a "secret" room. There are two or three of these rooms. Opening
them will find some of the collectable items such as SON, and Bikini
of Steel. I can't confirm this but I believe all of the last items on
the item collection list can be found here.
And finally as a general rule for finding items you don't have, make sure to
check behind breakable objects and doors on levels you haven't been in yet.
(Duh).
************************************************
9) Miscallaneous
************************************************
If I missed something you know about in any of the sections, please let me
know. Help me help you and all those other sayings that don't actually work
out in real life. Don't get so intent on finding items that you start to hate
this game. Just have fun. It's a great game. So, stay in school, don't do
drugs, and drink your milk (Unless you are a male, I heard drinking milk is
bad for the prostate).

10) Thanks
************************************************
I'm sure I won't thank every one I need to. Don't sue me or anything I don't
have a lot of money.
Thanks to:
-Capcom, for making this game.
-Todd McFarlane, for creating Spawn. (which I haven't bought since issue #30)
- JumiViolet, for helping me with the swords of curse.
- Wil Martinez, I can't think of a reason why except his infamous suggestion
for this FAQ. You think you know someone, then they move to Buffalo. You
know you'll be back Wil. Dunkirk awaits for it's victims to come back.
- Combomaster, for posting advance techniques on rolling.
- Most of the Spawn Board in it's early days at gamefaqs for trail blazing
this game. Sorry, I can't remember you all. Just remember the second
sentence in this section.
- Gamefaqs.com, for giving people a way/method to waste hours on FAQ's.
