Why Upgrade?
************************************************

Okay, this is for Samba de Amigo vets only. You rock the world in the first game and you
want to know what's the point in getting the new one? Well, let me tell you. First off,
all of the songs from the original game are in this game with the exact same patterns as
before. You may think that's a waste, but the important thing is that you can play these
songs in Hustle Mode as well. What is Hustle Mode? Well, read the How to Play section to
find out. Trust me, it really does make the game that much more fun. Plus, there are many
many new songs for you to play with and a SUPER SUPER HARD Challenge Mode that will make
you think twice about how good of a Samba player you truly are. The only thing missing
from the original is the stupid set of mini-games. The Love Love thing is still in this
game though. Instead, you have a new fun volleyball mini-game. It takes a lot of getting
used to, but it's a blast. Throw in a Survival mode for the hell of it, add a new female
monkey, and you've got a great new reason to dust off your maracas and shake 'em like the
days of old. Seriously, you WILL enjoy this game. And since it pretty much includes the
entire first game, you can sell it off to help you buy this one. Oh, and you vets can
skip the next section.

What's This About Maracas?
************************************************

Samba de Amigo is a series of games created by Sonic Team where the object of the game is
to shake your maracas in time to the commands on screen and the beat of the music. Now,
while this may sound like an odd way of having fun, once you give Samba a shot you won't
be putting it down for quite a while. It's an addictive game with great music and is
perfect for parties. Everybody can have fun playing the game, whether they are an avid
gamer or not.

Even without the optional maraca controller, the game is still quite enjoyable. In fact,
there are certain aspects of the game (such as the Challenge Mode) where you may want to
let your maracas take a rest and tackle them with the controller. The controls are set up
in a nice functional way to emulate the feel of two maracas. Be forewarned that prolonged
playing of this game with a normal controller will do some nice damage to your thumbs.

Whichever method you are using to play the game, the end result will still be the same.
You will have a very wide smile on your face when you are through with this truly unique
gaming experience. So grab your controller or your maracas and let's get to it!

How to Play
************************************************

Okay, now that we know the premise of the game, let's get down to the mechanics. In normal
gameplay mode. Once you've selected a song and all the pretty things are moving around on
the screen, you should focus of the hexagon of circles on your side of the screen. Okay,
are you focused yet? Now you'll see that little balls are slowly moving from the center
of the screen towards the circles that comprise the hexagon. The hexagon represents each
of the 6 places where you can hold a maraca. You can hold maracas to your upper left,
middle left, lower left, upper right, middle right, and lower right. When the little ball
is in one of the circles of the hexagon, you shake your maraca in the correct position.
Sound easy enough? Well sometimes you'll notice that two balls are moving at the same
time. That means you'll have to shake both maracas in the correct position at the same
time. You can do that, right? So now you're probably wondering why people like this game
so much, well you're not done yet.

No matter what mode you're playing, you'll eventually see a strange looking guy appear
behind the hexagon and hold his arms out in two different directions. That strange looking
guy is called "Pose-kun" and your job is to mimic his pose. If he holds both of his arms
out to the sides, you have to hold your maracas in the middle positions until you get the
big O and the audience's approval. Fail to hold the pose correctly and you'll get an X
and lower your grade.

Okay, so now you're the king of posing right? You think you've mastered anything that
Pose-kun throws at you? Well, you're still not done yet. If you're playing Hustle Mode,
Pose-kun will have one more trick up his sleeve. You'll sometimes see Pose-kun moving his
arm from one position to another rapidly. That's him telling you to do the same thing as
well. If he's moving an arm from upper left to upper right and back, you too must do the
same thing. He can get downright nasty too, having you use both maracas at the same time
on opposite sides or by making you move your maraca in a 360 motion.

After you master this, you'll be the hit at all of your parties in the future as you shake
those maracas straight into the hearts of all the ladies watching you. Go get em, Tiger!

Cast of Characters
************************************************

-Amigo-kun: Everyone's favorite fun-loving, maraca shaking monkey! His hat is enormous
and he seems to be proud of that fact. He's the character you use when you are in the
Player One position for most games.

-Amiga-chan: The female monkey who no matter what will one day be Amigo-kun's romantic
interest. She has a big flower on her head to match his big hat. Her hair is odd, though.
She's the character you'll be when you opt for the Player Two role.

-Linda-chan: The feather-clad dancer that you see in the back of certain stages. She is
apparently a big dancing idol. Probably because of the big feathers on her head. Also
note that she is a very poor volleyball player...

-Bingo & Bongo: The lovable pair of robotic teddy bears. Are they hellbent on global
domination, or are they just teddy bears that like to dance and play with bongo drums?
The world may never know. Bingo is the blue one and Bongo is the pink one. Don't forget
it!!!

-Rio: The crossdressing tiger person... I honestly had no idea he was a guy until it was
pointed out to me by my "friends". Play "Wedding March" and one of the random pictures
you'll see in the background is Rio lifting weights with his outfit partially off, showing
off his very male chest. Let's just move on...

-Chumba & Wamba: The two drummer leopard guys. They were named after the group who sings
Tubthumping, a featured song in the game. These guys seem pretty hip and "with it" in my
opinion. Of course, I could be wrong..

-Pose-kun: The badass black shadowy guy who poses with his maracas during gameplay. Quite
possibly the coolest character design ever, please take time to examine his greatness
during gameplay.

Main Menu / Modes
************************************************

-----ARCADE-----

The main mode of gameplay. This is where you'll want to start your maraca adventure. The
first thing you will be prompted for is to choose your mode:

Original: If you're a Samba vet, you'll know the drill here. This is the same as the
original Samba de Amigo, complete down to the exact same patterns for the older songs. If
you're new to Samba-ing, you'll want to try this first.

Hustle: The new feature for the 2000s, this adds the Hustle to the game. For a decent
description of Hustle, read the How to Play section of the FAQ.

Love Love: In this mode, you and another human player both play the same song. Everytime
you hit the same note at the same time, you get love points. The better you do, the higher
your love rating. Odd...

Whichever one you choose, you'll then be prompted for the difficulty level. The main
levels are: Easy, Normal, Hard. There are two hidden difficulties as well. Hold up on the
d-pad or shake your maraca in the upper left repeatedly to play SuperHard mode. Hold down
or shake in the lower left to play Random mode.

Next up you'll have to choose your height. This really only matters if you are using the
maracas, but you have to choose anyways. I highly recommend that you choose the size next
up from your height.. I converted the measurements from centimeters to feet just because
I'm a really nice guy:
190 cm (~6'2"), 170 cm (~5'6"), 150 cm (~4'9"), 130 cm (~4'3"), 110 cm (~3'9")

No, I didn't just make those numbers up.. that's what they really convert to...

Now you're presented with a screen where you can press B to go back and do it all over
again. Let's not. (Note: You can turn this off by setting the "Cancel Select" in the
Options Menu to off. It is on as default for some bizarre reason.

Arcade mode is divided up into 3 stages. The third one is the "Secret Stage" which you
can only play if you get above 98% accuracy and an 'A' Ranking on the first two stages.

-----ORIGINAL-----

The same as above only you can choose from every song that you have beat in Arcade Mode.


-----SURVIVAL-----

To unlock this mode, you must first become a Maraca Star (see Challenge Mode). In this
mode, you have a "life bar" of up to 5 hits. Every time you miss a beat, you lose a life.
Your life bar carries over from song to song. You will recover one life after ALMOST every
round. I'm not quite sure yet what determines you gaining a heart. Oh, and playing through
this mode entirely doesn't unlock anything (I tried), it's just for fun.


-----CHALLENGE-----

This is much more of a challenge than the one from the original Samba. Listed below are
the feats you must accomplish in order to move on. It's ordered as follows:

Ura Survival Mode is where things really start to heat up. Hope you've got tough skin on
your digits cause you'll need it. For the curious, "ura" is Japanese for "secret" or
"reverse", hence the reversing of everything on the screen. (Thanks to Richard Uyeyama
for pointing that out to me) Also suggested by Richard is that you may want to use the
Controller B setting on some of the last stages in this mode. They seem to be a bit
easier when you use this setting. I'd only suggest it for the Hero part personally since
I just like the feel of Controller A better. But Djobi Djoba is a LOT easier with B.

-----MINI-GAME-----

Play a not so fun and exciting Volleyball tournament against a friend or the computer. The
comp gets increasingly more and more difficult as you play. You face opponents in the
following order:

1. Linda-chan
2. Bingo & Bonbo
3. Chumba & Wamba
4. Rio
5. Pose-kun

When playing this mode with a controller, you use the d-pad or analog stick to move your
hand and the A button to attack. You only get one hand. With the maracas, you get two
hands and to attack you shake the maracas. If you attack while your hand is at the top
of the screen, you'll spike the ball. Otherwise you'll just bump the ball a bit harder.

Power Attack: When the ball is on your side of the court, keep the ball in the air and
pound on the A button (or shake the maracas) until your hand glows and then when you
spike the ball you will power attack and often knock the opponent's hand away for an easy
score.

Strategy: (This strategy comes from Richard Uyeyama)

When playing as Amiga, there is an easy way to beat the first three opponents. When you
serve, serve from the farthest edge of the screen with your hand level to the top of the
net. After you serve, start to move your hand to the net. About halfway, hold up and
forward to move diagonally up. Your opponent should have hit the ball back at you by now.
At the peak of the arc of the ball, spike the ball (don't let go of the analog controller).
You should spike it past the opponent almost every time.

For Rio, vary the pattern slightly by pushing up for a bit before the up-forward motion.
It's a little bit trickier.

For Pose-kun, try to beat him with Power Attacks. He won't fall for any kinds of other
tricks.
