If you look closely, you'll see the details in the picture are different,
but as long as the picture of the flower's the same, you're all right!

You can take one card from your hand and one card from the table as a pair.

Now then, would you try actually taking a card from the table?

Please choose the card you want to take using the directional pad.

The selected card will be enlarged, so press the button there to play it.

All right! It looks like you were able to take a card of the same design.

Next, you'll automatically draw one card from these cards here, the deck.

Now, if you make a pair with one of the cards out on the table......

You're really racking them up! You've managed to take another one. That's
what makes it so great!

The cards you've won will be lined up in the lower-right part of the screen,
so keep an eye on them.

Now your turn's over. It's my turn.

the cards on the table

and likewise, when I draw a card from the deck, if I can make another pair,

Incidentally, the points are counted in an old unit of currency called the
'mon.'

Descriptions and explanations for all the yaku are available from the menu,
so take a look at them later!

There are twelve different yaku altogether! I'm sure you'd be able to learn
all of them easily.

Now then, since you've made an 'aotan,' you've essentially won.

But if you're feeling greedy, you can keep the round going.

Now, here you can see the 'deer' ('shika') and 'butterfly' ('chou') cards,
right?

If you get one more, the 'boar' ('inoshishi'), to make a set of three......

you'll have the 'Inoshikachou' yaku! It's worth six mon.

Six mon plus six mon makes twelve mon altogether, so it's a big chance! Now,
what are you gonna do?

If you're thinking 'I won't be greedy and take the certain win,' you can
say 'end it'......

but if you're thinking, "I'll be greedy!" then choose 'Come on, come on!'

{1} 'Kuronosukai' (「黒之巣会」) translates to something like 'the Den of
Black.'

{2} The original 'Four Devas' (「四天王」) or 'Four Heavenly Kings' are
guardian deities of the Buddhist realm from each of the four cardinal
directions.

{3} The colorful modifiers preceding the names of the Four Devas are as
follows: 'Kurenai' (紅) translates to 'crimson'; 'Aoki' (蒼き) translates to
'blue'; 'Hakugin' (白銀), 'silver'; and 'Kuroki,' (黒き), 'black.'

{4} Literally 'the Six Destructive Star Demon Points' (「六破星降魔陣」).

{5} The Kansai-ben (関西弁) or "western dialect" refers to one of several
major general groupings of various dialects. The Kantou (関東) or "eastern"
dialect is considered to be the "standard" for Japanese. Kansai-ben is
really a blanket term which covers all the dialects from the Kansai area;
this includes not only Osaka-ben but Kobe-ben, Kyoto-ben, and many others.
Kansai-ben is considered to be somewhat more informal than Kantou-ben;
however, in this regard, it can be seen as more "friendly," but then I'm
not one to be making such a subjective judgment. It should be noted that
Kohran is generally described as speaking with an "odd" Kansai dialect; hers
appears to be somewhat exaggerated.

{6} "Hana" (花) simply means "flower"; "yashiki" seems to mean "mansion," but
probably not in this case.

{7} "Dansou no reijin" (男装の麗人), which translates to a "beauty in men's
costume," seems to be a set expression.

{8} As part of the "effects" of the particular dialect Kohran uses, many
instances of the "s" sound become "h" - in this case, the "-san" title
becomes "-han." I've decided to leave it as-is since it doesn't really
translate well.

{9} The Tokugawa regime was a system of centralized feudalism, marked by a
dominant warrior class, that acted as the Japanese government from 1603 to
1867, when it was overthrown and replaced by the Imperial-based Meiji
government, in which the old feudal system was abolished.

{10} Hanafuda (花札, literally "flower cards") is a classic Japanese card game
involving the matching of cards with similar flowers painted on them which
Kohran will explain in depth.

{11} 'Koi-koi' translates to something like "Come on!" It is one style of
Hanafuda play; others exist. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that
the cards themselves are called "hanafuda" while the name of the game is
"Koi-Koi."

{12} A 'yaku' (役) is simply a specifically defined group of some number of
cards that yields a point value and effectively allows one to win the round.
I have seen this term translated as "meld." Yaku used in this variant of
Koi-Koi are described within the mini-game.

{13} A 'tanzaku' (短冊; also, 'tanjaku') is a small vertical card or slip of
paper used for writing characters or poetry such as waka. On hanafuda they
are easily distinguishable and colored either red or blue. Red ones may have
writing on them.

{14} 'Aotan' (青短) means "blue tanzaku." A 'mon' (文) is an old unit of
currency, no longer in use.

{15} I have taken the liberty of replacing sentence termination here with
an ellipsis to provide the necessary ambiguity of Maria's statement. The
problem here is that the Japanese for 'I like/love (someone/something)'
does not necessarily need a direct object, and therefore can be ambiguous,
as is the case here. Thus, Ohgami is momentarily tricked into thinking that
Maria might declaring her affection for him here. Unfortunately, in
English, such ambiguity results in awkwardness when translated directly, so
the text suffers in translation.

{16} The 'gourai' in 'gouraigou' (轟雷号) means "clamorous thunder," while the
suffix 'gou' (号) is simply a signifier attached to names of trains and other
such vehicles denoting them as such.

{17} Unfortunately this is a rather weak translation. The original line was
"Dorokusai, donkusai...... omake ni inakakusai...... kusai-kusai no
sanbyoushi desu wa!" (「ドロくさい、ドンくさい......おまけに田舎くさい......
くさいくさいの三拍子ですわ！」) Sumire uses three different words that all end
in "kusai" (literally "foul-smelling"), which serves to turn nouns into
adjectives with a negative connotation. She then spontaneously describes
these as the "three key requisites of 'kusai-kusai,'" that is, three faults
that mark Sakura, in Sumire's opinion, as characterized by adjectives that
end in 'kusai.' This of course translates poorly into English. I tried to
force it by picking adjectives that all begin with the letters 'unc-', in
order to capture the effect of Sumire's witticism, but "uncoordinated" is not
really a good translation for "donkusai," which is closer to "simple-minded."

{18} Sakura is using the borrowed abbreviation "NG" ("no good") here to mean
"faults." A more literal translation would be "If you're looking for NG's
('No Goods')..."

{19} Another play on words. "Sumimasen" is a figurative expression meaning
"I'm sorry." It is also the negative form of the verb "sumu" (済む), which
means in this case "to put an end to something." Thus Sumire says "You won't
end this with a simple 'I'm sorry' ('sumimasen ja sumimasen')."

{20} The "Shougei" in "Shougei-maru" (翔鯨丸) literally means "flying whale,"
which is a not altogether unapt description for it. The "maru" (丸) suffix
is used to denote names of ships (sea and air) and the like.

{21} Arcane chanting. Any real meaning is unclear.

{22} The "ka" in "kasen" (火せん) means "fire." The whole word simply seems
to mean "rocket."

{23} The "white star" or "shiroboshi" (白星) is simply a small marking one
