I do not profess to be fluent in Japanese. I was neither born in Japan nor
have I ever been there (altough I would love to go). I have had very little
formal schooling in Japanese (a class that met almost every week for a few
months out of the year); what Japanese I do know is a result of intensive
self-study for the past three years (and lots of anime and manga ^_^). None
of the translation work I have ever done has ever been for profit; all such
projects were done due to my own personal interest or requests from friends.
The only real evidence I can give that this translation is not mere bull is
essentially my own word and various dictionary entries. In short, I am not
a professional translator. Yet. Furthermore, none of my work is authorized
by SEGA, RED, or any other company. I am doing this merely as a service to
fans who will probably never see the game otherwise translated into English.

前に話したかもしれんけど、神戸には、ウチが日本に来てからのお父はん……
I might have told you before, but Kobe is where my father after coming to
Japan......
パーシー・ホワードちゅう人が住んどるんや。

.....No, it's all right. All of you have magnificently performed a great

花組の心も、お前たちを中心にしっかり一つにまとまっている。

During that time, he really taught me a lot about machines.

Kohran, thank you. You'll finally be reunited with Howard-san, huh.

紅蘭
そうやな！ほんなら、さっそくホワードはんの家に行こか！
That's right! Now then, shall we go at once to Howard-han's house?

This is Howard-han's house. It's the first house I lived in after coming to
Japan.

Otherwise the thief-repellent trap I invented will explode!
(Like Kohran, Percy Howard speaks (albeit with an obvious foriegn accent,
which is why almost everything he says is in katakana) in the Kansai dialect,
which for some reason appears to be a stereotype regarding foreigners.)

おっちゃん……ウチら、ちゃんと呼び鈴を押したで……
Old man......We DID make sure to push the doorbell......
(Kohran refers to Percy Howard often as 'otchan' (おっちゃん), a contraction
of 'ojichan,' which literally means 'uncle,' and figuratively speaking would
in this situation mean 'middle-aged man' rather than 'old man,' but I can't
have Kohran just call him 'man'......)

ホワード
オウ……ホンマカイナ？ホナ、キット接触ガ悪カッタネ……
Ohh......Really? Well then, the contacts must have been bad......
マ、発明ニみすハツキモノヨ！ハハ、細カイコト気ニシナイ気ニシナイのーぷろぶれむ！
Well, mistakes are all part of inventing! Haha, as for the details, don't
worry, don't worry - it's no problem!!

で、ウチもその影響を受けとるっちゅうわけや。
And so, I received some of that influence too.

ところで……意外に、ちゃんとした普通の家なんですね。
By the way......contrary to what I expected, this is a proper, normal house,

Boy oh boy......Both of them, when it comes to machines, really do get
carried away.

それが……蒸気モーターの振動で針がとんでしまうんや。
Well, you see......the needle flies off because of the steam motor
vibrations.
発想はよかったんやけど……結局、実用化にはいたらんかったなー。
The conceptualization was good, but......in the end, it couldn't be put to
practical use.

紅蘭
それは、蒸気圧力ガマや！
That's a steam pressure cooker!
当時のウチの発明の中でもめずらしく成功した発明品なんやで。
Among my inventions of the time, it was one of the rare few that was a
success.

大神
へえ……どんなものが作れるんだい？
Heh......What sorts of things can you make with it?

紅蘭
お米をたいたりおイモをふかしたり……
You can boil rice or steam potatoes......
いろんなもんが作れるで！いうなら、万能料理機やな。
You can make all sorts of things! You could call it an all-purpose cooking
device.

- Middle shelf, left-most machine
紅蘭
これは、蒸気掃除機や。自走式で、ゴミを求めて自動的に走り回るんや。
This is a steam cleaning device. It's self-propelled and runs around by
itself looking for trash.

大神
へーっ、すごいじゃないか。で、これは実用化できたのかい？
Heh, that's amazing, isn't it. Then, where you able to put this to practical
use?

紅蘭
うーん……それが、走るスピードがあまりにも速すぎて……
Hmmm......Well, you see, the speed at which it runs is so fast......
一度走り始めたら、つかまえることができへんかったんや……
that once we started it running, we couldn't catch it......

ホワード
ソレニ、ウチノ大事ナ書類モゴミトマチガエラレテ何度モ吸イトラレタネ。
What's more, it mistook my important papers for trash and sucked them up so
many times.

大神
ハハハ……それは、災難でしたね。
Hahaha......That was quite a misfortune.

紅蘭
これは、蒸気カメラや。ちゃんと天然色の写真を撮れるんやけど……
This is a steam camera. It can take pictures right in full color, but......
あまりにも重すぎて持ち歩くとヘトヘトになってしもうてな。
It's so heavy that carrying it around would make you exhausted.

ホワード
イッツモ、ウチガ持タサレタネ。コノかめらニハホンマニ、泣カサレタデ。
And you always made me carry it. This camera truly made me cry.

紅蘭
ええやないの、ホワードはん。写真も撮れて、運動もできて一石二鳥やったやろ？
What's wrong with that, Howard-han? You were both able to take pictures and
get some exercise with it, so it was two birds with one stone, right?

紅蘭
これは、蒸気時計。ネジを巻くかわりに、蒸気の力で針を動かすんや。
This is a steam clock. Instead of winding a spring, the needle moves by the
power of steam.
蒸気の汽笛でちゃんと目覚し時計としても使えるんやけど……
With a steam whistle you can also use it as a proper alarm clock, but......

ホワード
音ガ大キスギテ、家中ノがらすガ、コナゴナニワレテシマッタネ。
The noise was so loud that all the glass in the house broke into pieces.

紅蘭
目が覚めるどころか、逆に気絶してもうたわ。あははははは！
Forget waking me up, it knocked me unconscious instead. Ahahahahaha!

紅蘭
これは、蒸気蚊とり線香。日本古来からある、ブタの蚊とり線香入れに……
This is a steam mosquito coil. From Japan since time immemorial, the
mosquito-catching incense......
蒸気のパワーを組み合わせたおもむきのある一品なんやで。
It's a thing of refinement with the power of steam built into it.

大神
へえ……おもしろい発明品だね。
Heh......That's an interesting invention.

紅蘭
けど……動力の蒸気パワーが問題でな……
However......the steam power that drives it is the problem......
蚊は退治できるんやけど暑うて、うるそうて……かえって寝苦しかったんや。
It can get rid of mosquitoes, but it's so hot and noisy......that it was too
hard to sleep instead.

大神
ハハハ……それじゃ、本来転倒だな。
Hahaha......That sounds like in striving for the end you forgot about the
problem in the means.

紅蘭
これは、蒸気通信機。いうなら、今のキネマトロンの試作機やな。
This is a steam transmission device. You could say it's the prototype of the
kinematron.
結局、かんじんの画面を写すことができへんでな……当時は、ここで断念や。
In the end, I couldn't get the vital screen display, so......at the time, I
abandoned it here.
