==2. The History of Vader ==
==============================

Call him, the terror from the Rocky Mountains, the Mastadon, or any name you
wish but it is without a doubt that, the man called Vader is a well-known
wrestler loved and respected the world over.

In 1985, an ex-NFL football player, Leon White who was playing for the L.A.
Rams for 5 years, became a prowrestler. White's first wrestling match was for
American Wrestling Association as Baby Bull. He went to Catch Wrestling
Association (owned by Otto Wanz) in Germany in 1986 and through their touring
of the U. S. was offered a spot at New Japan Pro Wrestling in late 1987 where
he was given the Ring persona of Big Van Vader.

FYI: The Big Van Vader gimmick had originally two other wrestlers as canidates.
The first being Blade Runner Sting's partner (who came to be known as the
Ultimate Warrior) and the other being Psycho Sid Vicious. If you're woundering
why the change from Big Van Vader to just plain old Vader, it is because the
gimmick is owned by NJPW's Antonio Inoki. Who wished to give his trademarked
character to another wrestler instead of Mr. White who is currently called
Vader (WWF, AJPW, & NOAH) when he formed UFO.

Vader would come to the ring with his Elephant shaped metal H. R. Giger mask,
that he would take off and make smoke pour out of. Originally Vader wore a full
mask with eye and mouth holes. His outfit was black with red lightning bolts
all over it. Vader would come out and wow the crowds with his amazing fast
manuevers like the Vader Attack, Vader Hammers/punches, and his ability to to
be Air Vader! When had an American tried to do a high flying move especailly
for a man of his size! I got to see him in Tokyo as a young pre-teen and was
hooked!

Vader was the first to be a champion on three continents at once. New japan's
IWGP Heavyweight Champ, Germany's CWA World Heavyweight Champ, and Mexico's UWA
World Heavyweight Champ. With this much gold around his waist the NWA/WCW
became interested.

On July 7, 1990 Big Van Vader made his debut at the Great American Bash against
Tom Zenk. Vader came out to the ring with his trademark metal helmet and
conjured smoke from it. The fight (if you can call it that) with tom Zenk was
over in two minutes and the crowd was awed by Vader's unique moves. Now vader
was traveling from Germany to Japan to Mexico and The States defending his
titles. During which began the bloody Vader Hansen fueds in which Stan "The
Lariat" hansen knocked one of Vader's eyes out of it's socket. Vader had to
have a metal plate put into his head to keep his eye in place. The fued was so
sucessful in japn that the NWA/WCW decided to import them into their own show.
Due to his success Vader gained a full time contract with WCW in 1992 and
vacated the CWA International title.

Vader has a reputation for being a brutal wrestler and is reguarded as the best
super heavyweight in the world. Vader has been one of the few athletically
gifted "big men" in the history of wrestling, not only is he able to move with
above average speed and uncanny mobility, but posseses suprising aerial skills.
He also has a point to finish many opponents with an "off the post" move such
as a moonsault, corner splash, or flying Vader attack. His athleticism and
popularity has gotten many championships. Here's a list:

1) March 1987: Bull Power (White) DEFEATS Otto Wanz for Catch Wrestling
Association World Heavyweight Title. Otto Wanz wins back title on July 1987

2) April 24, 1989: Big Van Vader DEFEATS Shinya Hashimoto for the International
Wrestling Grand Prix Heavyweight Champion during a one-night championship
tournament for the vacant title. Salman Hashimikov wins the title from Vader on
May 25,1989

3) August 10, 1989: Big Van Vader wins IWGP Title from Riki Choshu. Choshu wins
back title August 19, 1990

4) August 1989: Bull Power DEFEATS Otto Wanz for the vacant CWA World
Heavyweight title. Wanz wins back title from (White) June 30, 1990

5) November 22, 1989: Big Van Vader DEFEATS El Caneck for the Universal
Wrestling Association World Title. Caneck wins back title from Vader December
9, 1990

6) December 22, 1990: Bull Power DEFEATS Rambo for the CWA World Heavyweight
Title. Rambo wins back title from Vader July 6, 1991

7) January 17, 1991: Big Van Vader DEFEATS Tatsumi Fujinami for the IWGP
Heavyweight Title. Fujinami wins back the title from Vader March 4, 1991

8) December 21, 1991: Bull Power defeats Tatsumi Fujinami for the CWA
Intercontinental Title. Bull Power left CWA in 1992 and the title was vacated

9) March 1, 1992: Big Van Vader & Bam Bam Bigelow DEFEAT Hiroshi Hase & Keiji
Mutoh to win the IWGP Tag Team Titles. The Steiner Brothers win the titles from
them on  June 26, 1992

10) July 12, 1992: Big Van Vader DEFEATS Sting for the World Championship
Wrestling World Heavyweight Title at the Great American Bash. Ron Simmons
DEFEATS Vader for the title August 2, 1992

11) December 30, 1992: Big Van Vader DESTROYS Ron Simmons for WCW Heavyweight
Title. Sting wins the title from Vader on March 11, 1993

12) March 17, 1993: Big Van Vader DEFEATS Sting for the WCW Heavyweight Title.
Ric Flair Defeats Vader at Starcade for Title December 27, 1993

13) August 18 1994: Super Vader DEFEATS Nobuhiko Takada for the UWFI World
Title and the Best of the World Tournament. Takada wins back the title on April
23, 1995

14) December 27, 1994: Big Van Vader DEFEATS "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan for the WCW
United States Heavyweight Title at Starcade. Vader is stripped of the title by
commissioner Nick Bockwinkel for multiple violent offenses.

15) March 6, 1999: Vader DEFEATS Akira Taue for the vacant Triple Crown
Heavyweight in Nippon Budokan. Mithuharu Misawa DEFEATS Vader for the title May
2, 1999

16) October 30, 1999: Vader best Misawa to win Triple Crown Heavyweight Title
back. Kenta Kobashi best Vader for the Triple Crown February 27, 2000

17) February 20, 2000: Vader & "Dr. Death" Steve Williams DEFEAT Kenta Kobashi
& Jun Akiyama for AJPW Tag Team Title.

Not many can say that they've held these Titles. Since NJPW and WCW had a good
working relationship at that time (early 1990s) Vader was able to work both
company's PPV thus beginning the Vader Sting fueds and Vader & Bigelow IWGP Tag
Champ reigns. Vader cracked two of Sting's ribs while Mutoh gave Vader a
serious knee injury. Vader won the WCW title from Sting but lost it three weeks
later to Ron Simmons. They had a few rematches but Vader was unable to defeat
the new champion. Vader underwent knee surgery and came back like a man
possesed. Vader destroyed whoever he fought including Nikita Koloff, Ricky
Steamboat, and breaking the back of Joe Thurman. The reign of violence
continued when Sting and Vader fought in SuperBrawl 3 in a strap match. Both
men came out bloody and injured. Meanwhile White worked the UWFI (a shoot
fighting organization) as Super Vader and won their 15 day Best of the World
Tournament and their world title. When Vader got back to WCW on April 6, 1993,
someone new was their waiting for him it was the now legendary Cactus Jack
(Mick Foley). Vader and Cactus jack fought many battles and Cactus survived a
few only by a hair. In their first encounter Cactus Jack won by DQ but needed
27 stitches for facial wounds and a broken nose. In their second encounter
Vader nearly paralizes Cactus Jack with a powerbomb to the concrete. These
events lead to the infamous Texas Death Match at Halloween Havoc where tables,
chairs, and an electric cattle prod was used both men were bloody and Foley was
unable to respond to the ten count. The WCW then brought in Hogan who fueded
with Vader but that wasn't very interesting. Vader later got fired from WCW
took some time off.

At WWF's 1996 Royal Rumble Vader made his reappearence on American television.
Vader proved to be as violent as ever pummeling whoever was in his path.
Although the WWF hyped up Vader and he had a fued with Yokozuna, Shawn
Michaels, Psycho Sid Vicious, Bret Hart, and Kane. Vader never got to be the
top dog he had been for so long. Vader would later job for the likes of Mark
Henry and other less skilled wrestlers. Vader's career was in a slump. Why did
Vader's career sag so badly? Well, he went from an amazing heel to a baby face
and this is a turn that no one bought. Here's a man who's vicious past has led
him to the road to title after title. Trying to make a hero out of a heel only
works well seldomly. This is one of the cases were it wasn't a success!

Vader lands in All Japan! Vader teams up with former rival Stan Hansen and
dominates the Real World Tag Team Tournament and leaving a swath of
devistation! All Japan is taking Vader back to his glory days of New Japan and
WCW where he is feared and respected as the vicious monster that he is the best
at being.

FYI: Vader's popularity in Japan was so huge that he is one of the 16 original
characters chooseable in the very first FirePro game (which appeared on the PC
Engine) and has been present in the FirePro series ever since. Vader's video
game appearences are not just limited to the Fire Pro series. He's also had
incarnations in SNK's Garudentsu/Fatal Fury Series (in the first one as Raiden
and in part two as Big Bear). Vader has also shown up in Capcom's Muscle
Bomber/Saturday Night Slam Masters wreslting/fighting game as Alexander the
Greater/Alexander the Sheep.

==5. Strategy==
===============

5.1. General Strategy
=====================

The style employed by Vader is pure and simple Power! He is the best at using
raw, mercilious force! That means he'll drop you like a bad habit if he throws
on a strong grapple or stike. This means your strikes (especially his punches),
and all power bomb like moves are EXTREMELY effective.  So use those moves if
you want the most damage.  Rough moves are decently effective since Vader is
best known for being a heel type character.  As for grapple moves, Vader has a
huge amount of "A" rated moves (11 out of 19) like the Short Range Lariat,
Vader (Wild) Bomb, etc. so those are effective too.  A small weakness Vader has
is that five of his grapples are below "C" rated moves but they are his moves
(hey, what did you want? Not all of them can be "A" rated).  So mix in a few
strikes and use some grapples.  Let Vader do what he does best, DOMINATE!

For a strategy against him, his Technical and Submission are on the low side of
the parameter chart, so try some more technically oriented moves against him.
Some of his best battles have been against Mutoh & Misawa and Fire Pro was sure
as to reflect that.

5.2. Strikes
============

Vader's strikes are definitely in the good, out of ten in the nongrapple
department, half are rated "A" and only two of those are rated "E" while ten of
his nineteen grapples are strikes as well.  His punches and Lariats are great
to use early in the match.  But his Vader Attack (body Avalanche, which he has
more than one of) is extremely effective but making it connect is a little bit
harder. If you land it, it will floor the opponent. His best strike is still
the Vader Hammer (rated A and an SP to boot) landing one of these bad boys will
stun your opponent good.

So the best thing to do is to use the various punches to wear down the
opponents. Use the Lartiats when they move in to close range & try to land the
Vader Hammers more often for impact. Only use the Vader Attack when the
opponents are ready to be dazed and can be set up for a hard thrown.  Don't
forget to breathe every now and then, as strikes can rapidly deplete your
stamina.  (Yes the last sentence was taken from BillWood.)

5.3. Grapples
=============

This is where Vader and power type characters in general shine. Vader has some
excelent grapples in his moveset so use his "A" ranked moves, sadly only one is
a throw (the Press Slam) the rest are punches.  Then you can move on to use his
Brain Buster to get them ready for the medium grapple "A" throws beginning with
the Press Slam and Back Breaker Slam. Then finally, move on to his strong
grapple moves which are all almost all "A" moves like the One Handed Choke
Slam, Avalanche Press, and his Finisher the Vader Bomb (Wild Bomb Whip).

His strong grapple from behind moves are a mixed bag three "D", a "C", 2 "A",
and 2 "A" ranked moves (one of which is an SP). So the chance of pulling most
of the move off is lower than his "A" moves.  The only "A" moves he has is the
Back Brain Lariat (a strike) and Reverse Powerbomb (the SP I mentioned
earlier).  So try to use these move a little bit more if you can. I use the
Reverse Powerbomb when I can since it's something that the crowd will coo too.

5.4. High Flying Moves
======================

When it comes to highflying moves, Vader        has some of the strangest in the
business considering his enormous size. A Diving Elbow Drop, Diving Body
Attack, and a Moonsault Press, all of which are "E" rated but his Diving Body
Press is an "A" move.

As you can tell, his top turnbuckle moves are mostly opponents down moves and
his only opponent standing move is the Diving Body Attack.  I recommend using
the Diving Body Press since it has SP Power and the Moonsault Press since it's
the way that Vader would end some of his matches in style!

If you threw your opponent outside of the ring and he is dazed, use the Sledge
Hammer because it's the only move he's got.

5.5. Opponent Down Moves (Submissions and Opponent Downed Strikes)
================================================================

Just use his punch attacks since Vader is best at them. Sadly 2 of his 4 least
effective opponent downed moves are the Dragon Sleeper and 1/2 Crab both
submissions and I find submission holds to be ineffective because the CPU seems
to get out of it easily (unlike Super Fire Prowrestling X). It also hurts dince
they have a "D" rating.

======================
==6. Vader the re-EDIT
======================

This is my re-edit and my own revision, which is based off of the
standard/default Fire pro D version. I built this version to keep my NOAH
roster updated and closest to the stuff that I've seen of Vader. This is by no
means the ultimate Vader, the moves that I have changed are only the moves that
I felt that he did most and the changes reflect the growth as wrestler that I
personally feel Vader has undergone. Please feel free to use this version. If
you are able to go online and download stuff with your Dreamcast you will need
the following:

1) SPIKE Download Add-On move, Sky High Choke Slam (.W49)

==============================
=6.1 Explanation of the EDIT==
==============================

Why did I do it? Vader has always been one of the hands down favorites to use
in the Fire Pro series, so why mess with a good thing? I re-edited the already
stellar default Vader for a number of reasons. One being that he has added the
Tiger Driver to his already lethal arsenal and the other is that he has a new
Finisher the Sky High Choke Slam (Spike download move .w49). Since they were
gracious enough to build the move, who am I to deny the character from having
it. Also I felt that Spike's version was way too slow and didn't reflect the
viciousness of Vader enough. Also Vader's moves have changed with his move to
NOAH. Since I was going to update his moveset why not fix the things that I
felt were wrong. I also felt that the Fire Pro AJPW version didn't capture his
viciousness and ferocity (which makes him so popular).

NOTE: This will look just like the above but any item with an (*) next to it
means that it is changed from the default version of Vader.

========================
==6.2. Appearance Fix ==
========================

Since I had done this type of thing in my last FAQ I decided to folow that
format.

Why did I revamp Vader's appearance?

Actually I didn't, I cloned the default Vader for the CAW/updated version.

So why is this section you may ask? Well, in order for me to differenciate
between the two versions I changed the first appearance of the default Vader so
that I could tell the two apart. The Default Vader is now the re-EDIT so I
decided to go retro and build one of Vader's older looks. Since the move set
reflected an earlier Vader I decided that that was the direction that this
re-interpretation should head in. After trying to get a mask to look like his
last WCW/WWF/AJPW persona and was unable to find one, I decided to reach way
back and build his original "Big Van Vader" look instead. Here are the changes
that I made:

1) His name is now incorrect since this was his hay day I changed it to Nick:
Terror from RocMt. Name 1st part: Vader Name 2nd part: Big Van.

2) His original Big Van Vader look was fully masked black outfit with red
lightning streaks across it. I gave him the Super Delin mask and turned the
colors to mostly Black, His eyes are white, and there are red lightning bolts
on it. The hair that peaks out from underneath I turned flesh tone since
vader's hair was never long. So the mask color I chose the one that was 1/2 red
and black.

3) He used to wear a matching black outfit to go with the mask. So I left the
top of it the same and changed his lower half to the fire tights. The pants to
those with the lightning bolt (now red). I changed the last box on the top bar
to a deep red. The First box on the lower bar to black and the box next to it
to red.

4) The outfit he wore when he was wrestling in this original gimmick was only
red and black (with the red being only a lightning bolt here and there) so I
experimented for a while to get the smallest amount of red on his outfit.

5) Also the outside boot color is now black with red lines. His boots were like
the rest of the outfit so I adjusted them accordingly.

6) Now that looks like the original Big Van Vader!

7) Now that the look is set, we must do something about the federation where he
is at. Since he is "Big Van Vader" I moved him to NJPW but I've had friends who
did differently. Most people don't bother and just hide the default but here
are some of the other ways to deal with this situation. Psycho moved him to
Legends (as he does with all of his defaults when he updates them), Big Guy
moved him to WCW (where he grew up watching Vader), and Ajeff moved him to one
his own organizations (he had built Otto Wanz's Chase). Where you put him is
entirely up to you.

NOTE: Since the default Fire Pro Vader is now "Big Van Vader" and for me in
NJPW this CAW will be the current Vader who wrestles for NOAH.

==6.5. Strategy==
=================

It stays pretty much the same as before. So stick to it. I gave him the diving
Body Lariat to replace the Post Vader Attack. Also I gave him the Beat Down
followed by Stomp since it looked and felt more like the Vader Hammer Combo and
gave Vader a vicious looking attack. So use thses moves as such.

As for strategies against him, well since his base of power is still unchanged,
you can still use a lot of quick attacks to wear him down. Don't let him grab
you since most of the time he'll win. So do a lot of guierilla tactics, hit &
run, try not get hit by his punches or Vader Hammers. Also since Vader's knee
injury I made his legs weak, so if you can get him on the mat work his legs!

This Vader and Big Van Vader should be about even. I usually test my re-EDITs
against their Fire Pro default counterparts to make sure that I haven't done
something wrong.
