This FAQ was written by yours truly. I'm kinda new at this write a FAQ
thing, so forgive me if some parts sound corny, offend you, confuse
you, or just down right don't make sense. If you're going to copy
something here, give credit where credit is due. SNOOCHIE BOOCHIES!

1. Intro
Like the intro to the game says… "Everyone rumored… Nobody believed…
BUT YOU SEE IT'S TRUE!" In what has been the most anticipated
fighting game in creation, now we can finally see just who is
better.
Of course after had played the game for some time since its release,
I can easily tell you that this question can be hard to answer. The
game itself plays more like Street Fighter Alpha 3 Vs King Of
Fighters 99. All Capcom characters are from the original SF2, as
well as Sakura and Cammy. All SNK characters can be found in KOF 96
(except Raiden who is from Fatal Fury 1).
Capcom has done an AWESOME job redesigning the SNK characters
(especially Iori and Kyo), but all the Capcom characters retain
their original animations (except Ryu, and Ken, as well as some
additional taunts here and there).
But why should you get and play this game? Well, cause any big fan
of both series of games will just sit in awe as they see Iori put
Ryu in his Maiden Masher Super. Ok, maybe I do, and you might not,
but nonetheless, the game is not only simple and full of detail, but
it's actually fun to play! Ok, let me stop talking and tell you
about this gem of a game.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Game Description and Menus
It's a fighting game so you know how that works. Which ever side
knocks out the other is the winner. DUH! But here's where the twists
come out.
First you must pick which "Groove" you like, Capcom, or SNK. Each
Groove effects how your super bar works.
The Capcom groove works much like the SFA3 A-ism (or Z-ism if you
have the import) super bar. The super bar fills up as you do moves
and combos and builds up to 3 levels. Doing a different level super
requires you press a certain button(s). A level 1 super is done with
a weak attack, a level 2 super is done with a strong attack, and a
level 3 super is done by pressing both punches or kicks after doing
the appropriate super motion. Some supers can only be done at Level
3.
The SNK groove plays much like the KOF97 Extra mode. You can charge
the super bar by holding both strong attacks. Once maxed, you can do
a level 1 super. When your life meter reaches the low point to where
it starts to flash red, you can now do a level one super at any time
(unlimited Shinkuu Hadokens??!). If you max out the super bar while
your energy is flashing red, you can use a level 3 super. Note, you
cannot do level 2 type supers at all using this mode.
Much like KOF, you select up to 4 characters from the roster of 28
(33 with secrets opened), and whoever remains standing at the end of
at most 7 rounds, is the winner.
Now, choosing your team involves looking at the Ratio level. The
ratio level is basically how many points a character is worth.
Level 1 – Sakura, Cammy, Dhalsim, Blanka, Benimaru, King, Vice, Yuri
Level 2 – Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Guile, M.Bison (Balrog in US),
E.Honda, Zangief, Terry, Kim, Mai, Iori, Kyo, Ryo, Raiden,
Morrigan, Nakoruru
Level 3 – Vega (M.Bison in US), Sagat, Balrog (Vega in US),
Yamazaki, Rugal, Geese
Level 4 – Evil Ryu, Akuma, Orochi Iori
Now, as you can see, each character has their own point value. You
select as many characters as you can to fill up 4 Ratio slots. So,
you can do any of the following…
- 4 level 1 characters
- 2 level 1 characters + a level 2 character
- 2 level 2 characters
- 1 level 1 character + a level 3 character
- 1 level 4 character
Since you only get four points to fill, choosing your team becomes
quite the dilemma. You wouldn't be able to do teams like Vega and Iori
since that would require 5 points. Some may say that having 4 level 1
characters vs 2 level 2 characters is an unfair advantage, but having a
higher level character has it's strong points such as better damage.
So, in other words, choose wisely.
The game menus are pretty basic…
Arcade mode – Battle the computer
Vs Mode – Battle your annoying friends
Game Replay Mode – Record your Vs mode match, and replay to show off
that ill combo you did
Training mode – Practice against a lifeless drone of your choosing
Network Mode – Play over the SegaNet against someone out there
(PLEASE BRING THIS OPTION TO THE US VERSION!!!!)
Secret Mode – unlock any of the 77 secrets within the game.
More on this later…
Color Edit Mode – Edit how your character's colors looks!
Option mode - Game options, button config, display setup, the usual.
Memory Card – Save, Load, Auto Save… the usual.

Ryu
Well… at least he looks different… Ryu, is still Ryu. Fireballs, dragon

SF3, but you need to be at level 3 for that. Oh well…

Well… Ken looks different too. However, he does have a new cartwheel

nothing special about Ken

*Super Rising Kicks – DB, Charge, DF, DB, UF, K
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Guile
Why did Capcom have to use the same sprites for Guile? Unlike his SFA

have Charlie's (or Nash) Combo super.
Sonic Boom – B, Charge, F, P
Somersault Kick – D, Charge, U, K
*Super Somersault Kick – DB, Charge, DF, DB, UF, K
*Rush Combo – B, Charge, F, B, F, P

Blanka
Blanka's Cannonball super has been given a new look. His new super is
just a pumped up version of his electricity move… kind of useless.
Cannonball – B, Charge, F, P
Rising Cannonball – D, Charge, U, K
Hopping Cannonball – B, Charge, F, K
Hop back – hold B, WK+SK
Hop forward - hold F, WK+SK

*Electric Cannonball – B, Charge, F, B, F, P
*Screaming Shock – DB, Charge, DF, DB, UF, P Rapidly
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
M.Bison (Balrog in US)
I feel bad since Balrog has gone overlooked in SFA3, because he's
actually quite good. His moves are strong, effective, and he has a good
mix up game. Try him out. You might like him.
Rush Straight – B, Charge, F, P
Rush Uppercut – B, Charge, F, K

Balrog (Vega in US)
Yet another good character overlooked in SFA3. 4 supers, and some long
range moves make Vega hard to catch.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Vega (M.Bison in US)
NOW WE'RE TALKING! Bison has a new (and much cooler) look, as well as a
few new moves. If it wasn't for his high jump time, Bison would be
unstoppable.
Psycho Slash – F, D, DF, P
Psycho Punch – B, Charge, F, P
Scissor Kick – B, Charge, F, K

*Spinning Sweeps – D, DB, B, D, DB, B, K
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Cammy
Ok… I can deal with screwing up Sakura, but NOT CAMMY! My absolute
favorite character of all time is just as worthless as Sakura. One
super, and all the simple moves she's always had just can' cut it.
Spiral Arrow – D, DF, F, K
Cannon Spike – F, D, DF, K
Hooligan Combo – DB, D, DF, F, U, P (U+P if close to throw)
Spin Punch – F, DF, D, DB, B, P
*Spin Drive Smasher – D, DF, F, D, DF, F, K
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Team SNK
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kyo
It's nice to see all the SNK characters done in such nice detail.
However, it's not nice of them to get rid of some of their moves. Kyo's
punch special ahs the same animation no matter what punch you use,
unlike KOF. Plays just like his KOF 97 counterpart
Fire Punch – D, DF, F, P
- Combo 1 – D, DF, F, P, P or K

*Inferno Combo – D, DF, F, D, DF, F, P
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Iori
AHHHH!!!! Your jaw will drop after seeing how Capcom remade Iori. All
his animations are top notch. Especailly his level 3 Maiden Masher,
which shows his original SDP Maiden Masher from KOF.
Moon Flash – D, DF, F, P
Rising Flame – F, D, DF, P
Face Burst – F, DF, D, DB, B, P

*Maiden Masher – D, DF, F, DF, D, DB, B, P
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Terry
I wish I could say that all the SNK characters were nicely remade…
except Terry. Terry has only his original moves from the first Fatal
Fury. He does have his new super from Mark of the Wolves.
Power Wave – D, DF, F, P
Burn Knuckle – D, DB, B, P
Crack Shoot – D, DB, B, K
Rising Tackle – D, Charge, U, P
*Power Kaiser – D, DB, B, DB, F, P
*Geyser Wolf – D, DF, F, D, DF, F, K
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ryo
If any of you out there has played KOF 95, then this Ryo will look
familiar. Everything from his stance, speed, and, moves all look and
are done the KOF 95 way. Good or Bad? You Decide.

*Burning Ninja Bees – D, DB, B, DB, D, DF, F, K
*Burning Dive – in air, D, DB, B, D, DB, B, P
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kim
Yet another favorite that has lost his flare. Kim's moves just don't
have the same effectiveness they did in KOF. Most of his specials are
hard to combo with.
Cartwheel Kick – D, DB, B, K
Air Stomping – in air, D, DF, F, K
Flash Kick – D, Charge, U, K
(if you use the SK version, you can follow the move with D+SK

*Dash Combo – D, DB, B, DB, F, K
*Air Combo – in air, D, DF, F, DF, D, DB, B, K

Reppu Ken – D, DF, F, WP

*Power Bulldog – rotate 720, K
*Fire Breath – F, DF, D, DB, B, F, DF, D, DB, B, P

her variety of throws, but still much to be desired.
Power Bomb – B, DB, D, DF, F, P
Floor Drag – F, DF, D, DB, B, F, P
Snake Grab – B, DB, D, DF, F, K

(if using SP, press rapidly for more hits)
Quick Kick – D, DF, F, K

4. Secrets Menu
As you play the game, you earn groove points that can be used to
purchase nifty extras for the game. Much Like MvC2. At most, you can
ear up to 400 points by beating the game. You also get points in VS,
and training modes. I just wish some of this stuff wasn't so expensive.
You'll be playing this game A LOT just to unlock everything. Here are
the ones I have so far.
1-33 – Basically extra colors for all the characters (200 pts each)
34 – Evil Ryu (7000 pts)
35-47 - EX versions of all CAPCOM characters. Basically changes the
moves of certain characters. Sakura for example gets all her
original moves back (1500-3000 points each)
48 – EX Kyo?
49 – Orochi Iori (7000 points?!)
50-61 – EX versions of all the SNK characters (1500-3000 points each)
62 – unlock CPU Akuma (500 points)
- to fight him, just reach the end boss with a GPS of 95 or
higher
63 – unlock CPU Morrigan (700 points)
- to fight her, make sure you're using CAPCOM Groove and just
have a GPS higher that 50 after your third fight
64 – unlock CPU Nakoruru (700 points)
- to fight her, make sure you're using SNK Groove and just
have a GPS higher that 50 after your third fight
65 – Open Vega stage (1000 points)
66 – Open Geese Stage (1000 points)
67 – Open Morrigan Stage (1200 points)

5. Update list
V1.0 – 9/10/2000
- After playing this game for just too long, I figure the
only other cool thing to do is write this FAQ. I've never
written one before, so forgive me if it isn't a great piece
of literary art. Also, I'm not a hardcore fighting fan, so
I'm sorry if I don't have all the move names right. Well,
all this was written today, so enjoy!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Credits
I did wanna thank these people…
Kao Megura – My inspiration for writing a FAQ in the first place. I was
surprised to see that you haven't written one (yet), but I'm sure when
you do, I'll be reading yours more than mine!
GameFAQs – For hosting this crappy FAQ
Snorlot15 – For never playing this game yet
Capcom and SNK – for letting bygones be bygones and creating just one
of the greatest fighting games of all time.
Mt. Dew – for helping me stay up to play this game
Sweety – for just being you…
