Hello and welcome to my Sidequest FAQ for WonderBoy in Monsterland. I loved
this game as a kid. So much better than that Mario guy. Anyway, I have written
this short guide about the only sidequest in the game, that will make your
battle with the dragon a lot easier. People often forget how to follow this
sidequest, so now you have a shiny guide to follow.
Cheers,

On Round 2, you will enter a cave after going through the village area. Above
the first lava pit that you come to, there are some platforms. As you land on
the platform, a sign will appear saying "Someone be beyond the wall."
Push up and enter a hidden door. Someone inside will speak to you about the
Hero's Emblem. He will also give you the Scroll To Catherine. You need to take
this to Catherine during Round 4. You can see the Scroll To Catherine in the
status menu.

At the start of Round 4, you will make your way over a body of water. On the
other side is the town of Baraboro. Climb the only ladder here and at the top
is a shield shop. To the right of this there is bare wall. Press up in the
centre of this wall and you will enter a hidden door.
In here you will find Catherine. She will tell you that an old man on Pororo
Island will help you obtain it. She will then give you the Flute to help you
reach the mansion.

Towards the end of Round 7, you will reach Pororo Island. You will see the
exit door here. However, you should ignore that for now. Instead, head to the
far right of this area. Here, there is a ladder. Climb to the top and you will
automatically play the Flute. This will reveal a mansion over on the right.
Head inside.
Once inside the mansion, go to the area with the Mini-Knight in it. Kill the
knight and go through the door above the moving platform. In here you will
find the "old man". He will give you the Charm of Star. He says that you need
to give it to the Great Catfish, who will exchange it for the Hero's Emblem if
you are truly worthy. You are now free to exit to the left and continue the
round.

On the first screen of Round 11, you will drop through deep water. As you
fall, there is an item shop on a high ledge just to the left. Make sure that
you drop onto this ledge, otherwise you will miss your chance to get the
Emblem.
Once on here, go into the item shop, then leave. Enter a second time and you
will be faced with the Great Catfish. He will give you the Hero's Emblem. This
isn't much good as it is, but it will give you a chance to obtain one of two
useful items before facing the dragon.

Outside the Dragon's Castle during Round 12, go into the right handmost
visible door. Here you will speak to someone who will offer you either the
Bell or the Ruby (as long as you have the Hero's Emblem).
The Bell will help you get through the Dragon's Castle very easily. Everytime
you are heading in the right direction, the Bell will sound. If you are going
in the wrong direction the Bell won't sound. Often, if you take a wrong turn,
you will find yourself back at the entrance of the castle or at least a few
screens back. This is time you can't afford to lose. It takes ages to reach
the Dragon and you will lose a lot of health through the hourglass emptying.
You really need to know where to go.
The Ruby is a very useful item in a different way. Once you have reached the
Dragon, the Ruby will weaken it. In essence it will cut the first battle
sequence out. This will help you a lot. The Dragon battle can be pretty
difficult, so this will make it easier for you.
As you can see, both items provide you with a big advantage. It would be great
if you could pick them both right? Well, in reality you can just pick the Ruby
and just follow my directions to the Dragon below.
