I. Preface/Contact information

Of all arcade shooting games, there are two most wildly known series: One is
Time Crisis, another is Virtua Cop. Before playing Virtua Cop III, I prefer
Time crisis much better because the tight battle systems and story lines it
contains. Although I still played both the first and the second Virtua Cops
and got S rank in Virtua Cops II, I was not very interested in them. I
usually played them only to kill time when all Time Crisis machines were
occupied by some lame players with horrible game plays that I would not dare
to watch. However, Virtua Cop III is a different story. The combat system
and graphic are much improved in Virtua Cop III and provided players more
challenge than before, and it is finally a shooting game that worth elite
players playing over and over. Perhaps that's why I wanted to compose this
guide.

I always believe that an intelligent video game players will use any
possible options in games to test his/her gaming skill, and he/she should
not be satisfied with but beating the game, but to become an outstanding
gamer by doing research and developing strategies of a specific game and
completing some goals that cannot be done by the majority players that bare
average skill and knowledge of the game. And I set my goal as having the
highest score possible in Virtua Cop III, which is 99,999,999 points for the
regular version of Virtua Cop III. I have not had a chance to play the new
version yet (which the score has 9 digits instead of 8 digits in the regular
version). If I discover new information in the newer version, I will update
this FAQ. Otherwise, no significant change will be made in the future.

The first time I beat this game with one credit, I saw the highest score on
the machine that was somewhere around 60,000,000, which I considered as the
result of a joke or using some cheat code, but after doing lots of work in
this game, I finally reached 99,999,999 points in the end of June, 2003. I
have heard that elite Japanese players have acquired the same score few
months ago before I did, and I know that my skill is nothing compare to
them. But anyway, having maximum score is sure a achievement that most
Virtua Cop III players want to reach, that is why I decided to compose this
guide and share the best of my knowledge with other Virtua Cop III players
around the world, and hope more and more people will know how does getting
maximum score work in the future.

As the title of the FAQ, this guide is composed based on how to acquire the
maximum score of the regular version of Virtua Cop III. Anything that is not
related to this topic will NOT be described nor analyzed in this game. If
you are looking for an FAQ that tells you basics, where are the enemies, or
other small details, you can stop right here because you are reading a wrong
guide. There is another "Virtua Cop III walkthrough" on GameFaqs Virtua Cop
III board and that guide will be the answer you are seeking.

I rarely check my e-mail box now and I don't have to, which means I will NOT
answer your questions through e-mail, and I don't want to answer questions,
either. The only possible way to find me right now is to go to GameFaqs'
Virtua Cop III board frequently and I might be there. If you have any new
information about the new version of Virtua Cops III, or you find any fatal
error in this guide, you are more than welcomed. Otherwise, do not ask me
anything about this game, or give me any comment about this guide. I am not
interested in your questions, I do not care about your opinions about this
guide, and I am not interested in making any e-friends, either.

***II. General concept of getting a high score--

Virtua Cop III has a very unique and quite strange scoring system. Your
score will stay low no matter how hard you shoot your enemies, because you
have to get most of your points from shooting bullets.

The primary theories of getting score in Virtua Cop III are several:

--3 points shot: 500 x 3 = 1,500 points each time you do so on an enemy.

--Justice shot: Either 5,000 or 7,500 points each time you do so on an
enemy.

--Completing critical missions: An excellent result gives you 10,000 points.
Will not help much but if you have never reached 99,999,999 points before
and you are attempting to completing this goal, every score counts.

--Your level: Your level bar will increase by a successful attacking on an
enemy or specific targets except bosses. A 3 point shot will result in
increase your level bar 3 times in a row, so do it as often as possible.
Your level is an important factor of determining how many score you will
receive after shooting each bullet. Also, I suspected that you might receive
bonus after each break of missions with higher level, but I cannot be sure.

You will lose 2 levels immediately by being damaged, or hitting any
civilian. In order to reach the maximum score, not losing any life in this
game is almost a pre-request.

--Shooting bullets: That's basically one of the most important points of
this FAQ. You score of shooting each bullet is determined by this formula:

The number of bullets you have shot down (cannot be more than 255) x your
level (cannot be over 16) x 100

So the highest possible score per bullet will be

255 x 16 x 100 = 255 x 1,600 = 408,000

You can only shoot bullets by using E.S mode. Also notice that your level
bar will not increase when you shoot bullets.

--Bonus after completing each mission.

10,000 for completing simple mission
40,000 for completing normal mission
100,000 for completing hard mission

--Extra mission: Usually you will grab up to around 2 million points if you
pass the extra mission. It helps if you got very close to maximum score
after completing hard mission. So why not give it a go? You can still post
your score on the machine even if you die. But I decided to put Heaven's
Door in an appendix because this mission still does not have much to do with
getting maximum score. The chance of getting between 97,999,999 and
99,999,998 points in the end of hard mission will not occur often, I
suppose.

--If you hit at least half of enemies with 3 points shots and justice shots,
you will have around 17,000,000 ~ 20,000,000 points from your enemies.
22,000,000+ if you are a good player.

--Other factors. I will not discuss them here.

So basically, the biggest influence to your score is the number of bullet
you shoot and how fast can you reach level 16, and how long can you keep
staying at level 16.

Here are the base score you should have by completing the game includes the
extra mission with one credit:

Guaranteed score: 18,500,000
+ Extra mission: 2,000,000
+ Bonus credits: 150,000
+ Critical missions: 140,000
----------------------------

Total Score: 20,790,000

You have to get the rest 78,200,999 points by shooting bullets. In order to
complete this goal, you must:

--Do 3 point shots as many as possible, also there are some small tricks to
increase your level bar a little faster and will be mentioned later. You
must reach AT LEAST level 10 after you complete the simple mission; and AT
LEAST reach level 16 before Subway scene in normal mission for being safe.

--Using E.S mode to shoot bullets. The original purpose of E.S mode is to
prevent you from being damaged, but you have to use it to gain as many score
as possible now. Note you can no longer activate E.S mode if the energy bar
is ran out, so you must use it wisely. The best way to use E.S mode is to
use it when machine gunners appear. Enemies' machine guns usually give you a
lot of bullets, especially in hard mission. You can have at least two
chances to shoot bullets for each machine gunner. Activate E.S mode when you
see them and shoot the bullets, then release your E.S pedal quickly and
activate the mode again before the lock-on-sight turns into red. Note that
your E.S energy will be drained very quickly this way in hard mode, that
when justice shots comes into handy. Each justice shot will recharge your
E.S energy bar quickly over two seconds. You can do justice by shooting your
enemies' weapons, which usually means to attack their hands. Doing justice
shot is MUCH easier than doing it in Virtua Cop II. First, you have E.S mode
that gives you plenty of time to aim your enemies' hands, second, sometimes
you have to learn to shoot specific enemies' left or right arms to perform
justice shots, and such case does not exist in Virtua Cop III. You simply
aim hands and it will be good enough.

--DO NOT get struck and DO NOT attack ANY civilian or you will lose two
levels each time you do so. You must memorize where the civilians are. Also
the next section of the guide will help you. If you lose lives before you
get the maximum score, you are basically screwed. Note that there might
still be a chance to get maximum score if you are damaged no more than once
in simple mission, before you fight the boss. But your performance in the
rest of your game must be outstanding to make up the two levels that you
have already lost.

--Practice. No one was born as a Virtua Cop.

***III. Brief Walkthrough***

NOTE: I have already said that this guide is not a walkthrough, and I will
not list anything that is not related to getting maximum score in Virtua Cop
III. This part is pretty much like a reminder to remind players where you
might lose lives easily, and where to get lots of bullets.

+--------------------------------+
+ a. Simple mission: Angle Allow +
+--------------------------------+

--In the name of GOD, you must try to perform 3 point shot on ALMOST EVERY
ENEMIES except some that are impossible to do on them, or you need to
recharge your E.S energy bar (and if you do run out of E.S energy in mere
simple mission...you need more practice).

--After you enter, some machine gunners will appear when the screen moves
down. You can get some bullets here. Whether to get bullets or not here is
your choice. As I said before, most of gunners will not provide significant
number of bullets except few unique cases.

--Be ware of the four elite guards coming out from the door on the second
floor. The computer will instruct you using the E.S mode.

--When you do down, you will see a M4 shotgun in a plant holder if you broke
it. You should NOT pick it up. Never pick up any shotgun because they are
useless.

--Critical Mission: You have to destroy three targets in a certain time.
Unless your machine is set on easy or very easy mode each target requires 3
shots to destroy.

The key is to FAIL this critical mission on purpose. You can destroy two
targets because as I said before, each hit on specific targets will increase
your level bar, but DO NOT destroy the third one. Shoot it twice then stop.

When you fail to destroy the candleholder, you will have to fight five
machine gunners, and they give you lots of bullets. Kill them after you feel
you got enough bullets here or the lock-on-sights are turning to red.

--Area I finished.

--Move right and do not kill the hostages.

--When you turn back, four elite guards will appear behind a running
civilian. Use E.S mode here. One of them will drop a revolver and DO NOT
pick it up. If you did pick it up, switch to the normal gun you were using.

--When you go forward to the end two civilians will walk out from the left
and one enemy is in front of them. I promise you that you will kill one
civilian if you shoot that enemy with the god damn revolver because its
bullets pierce through the target. Piercing ability might be good if you are
playing Diablo II, but not in Virtua Cop III.

--When you move back, you must attack quickly because some enemies do attack
fast here.

--Two critical missions in a row: You must destroy the target on the door in
a very short amount of time. Do not worry about if you can complete these
missions or not because I suggest you fail both of them. To fail each of
them give you five machine gunners, which means lots of bullets again.

--Enter the door, kill enemies and pick up the G369 assault rifle, but do
not use it yet.

--When you go up, shoot the top shelf right in front of you and get some
ammos, it is optional.

--Be ware of the civilian popping out after you finish the enemies walking
between shelves. Three enemies will appear behind him. Your normal gun is
better than G369 in this case.

--When you enter another door use your G369 guns all the way 'till you kill
four elite guards. The purpose to use G369 here is to make you getting the
life dropped by the first enemy coming out from left easier.

--Switch to normal guns again and you must beware of civilians. Shoot every
enemy with cautious and you will be fine. None of them come out in a strange
position.

--When you start to kill flame throwers, note that a civilian will appear
after you kill three of them, and beware of a melee attacker.

--Area II ends here.

--Boss Gale is too easy. I am not going to say anything here.

--After killing two enemies behind the window, a civilian will appear.

--When you look up, blow the gas container up and get a MP7 machine gun.
Save it for later.

--One of the gas containers in front of the lab contains left. When you
start to shoot enemies behind the window, the screen will move to right and
a civilian will appear at the far right side.

--Beware of a melee attacker popping out.

--When you see two enemies coming out from the bottom, you should not hit
them but try to hit the lids above them instead. The lids will fall and hit
two enemies. Each of them will give you an ammo box. If you just kill them,
you miss the ammo boxes

--Turn left and look out for a melee attacker.

--Switch to MP7 and slaughter your enemies from this point.

--Critical mission. You have to destroy three targets in a very short of
time. Every target requires three shots unless your machine is set on easy
mode. It is a TOUGH critical mission and you MUST complete it or you will
lose a life.

              +----------------------------------+

                A
                   B
               C

                D
                E
              +----------------------------------+

Use your MP7 to shoot target A, B, then C. With MP7's mighty firing rate you
should be fine. But you fail to destroy target C, you can have your last
chance by focusing your fire on D or E before the cell hit your head.

--The first of your enemies will drop a life. Of course you have to get it
very quickly before the next enemy shoots you. Using E.S mode to get the
life here will be wise.

--All you have to do in the rest of game before you fight Glitter is to
beware a civilian when your screen goes up, and the four elite guards appear
in the end of Area III

+---------------+
+ Boss: Glitter +
+---------------+

--Use normal gun first

--You can damage him by shooting his head ONLY, or you have to wait 'till
the lock-on-sight appears. Beware of his throwing knives. He will rarely
throw three knives at the same time (and I suppose he will not do so in easy
mode from what I heard, but I could be wrong). Anyway, if he does so, you
have E.S mode.

--Another critical mission comes up when Glitter lost more than half of his
life. You must destroy the target on his sword before you are slain. MP7
will do the trick. Also note the target is immune to any attack during the
first second of this critical mission.

--Use MP7 all the way. Use E.S mode if you think it is too tough for you to
handle three throwing knives at the same time. MP7 deal less damage the
normal Guardian II handgun and will allow Glitter having one more chance to
throw his triple throwing knives, which give you an extra chance to increase
your level bar.

--You kill Glitter and Simple Mission ends here

--You should have:

5 lives
Level 10 (12 will be ideal)
Score 4,000,000+

by now.

+------------------------------+
+ b. Normal mission: Stray Cat +
+------------------------------+

Note: There are several things you have to pay attention from now on. First,
you should take any possible chance to shoot bullets from machine gunners in
normal and hard mission. As I said before, you have at least two chances to
shoot bullets from per machine gunner by using E.S mode properly. Refer to
General Concept section for more information. Also, your enemies will start
to hide behind hostages from now on. There are two types of them, one is to
hide completely behind a civilian but will push the hostage away before he
attacks. All you have to do is to wait for him to throw his meat shield away
and strike him. This enemy will be refer to enemy type A in the later part
of the FAQ; and another is to hide behind the hostage but you can only
attack by carefully aiming his head without damaging the civilian. I
recommend using E.S mode and aiming the top left of the lock-on-sight first,
and then move your fire closer and closer to your target's head until you
hit it. This enemy will be referring to enemy type B later on.

--After you clear the two enemies on top, beware of a hostage that will
appear after you kill three more enemies.

--Four elite guards on top. Using E.S mode here.

--After you enter the door there will be a machine gunner. Do not kill him
before he shoots bullets. There will be some civilians but you can avoid
damaging them by not shooting the lower part of the screen.

--After the screen moves up then down, a grenade thrower will appear. Pick
up the MP7 he drops but do not use it yet.

--An enemy type A.

--Screen moves left. There will be an ammo box dropped by an enemy, and
beware of a female bank employee appearing.

--When you pull away from the counter, some extra enemies will appear. Shoot
them and boost your level bar. Are you reaching level 14?

--Critical strike. A very easy one but do not fail, or you will lose a life.

--Two machine gunners will appear. Get their bullets!!! Also you can shoot
those enemies that were distracted by reinforcement from V.C.P.D.

--Keep attacking, before you go up to second floor, an enemy type B will
appear. Also beware of the two enemies on the elevator. They attack quickly.

--Before you reach the second floor, four elite guards will appear.

--Enemy type B. After you defeat him, the hostage will run toward to you and
block the most part of the screen. I recommend using E.S mode before you get
rid off this annoying guy. Your first enemy appears behind him will drop a
life. One more gunner will show up. After the hostage departing, beware of a
melee attacker.

--A female employee will appear after you defeat five enemies beside the
counter. Few more enemies will pop out; one of them is a machine gunner.

--Enemy type A.

--After encountering the mysterious guy in red cloak, a truck will rush in.
The enemies on the truck attack extremely fast. Use E.S mode ANY TIME YOU
ARE IN DANGER. One of them will drop a revolver and one will drop an ammo
box, try not to pick up the revolver because it is totally crap in Virtua
Cop III. There will be no machine gunners, but if you want, you can still
get decent bullets in this part.

--Area I end.

--You encounter Gale again and there is no reason you will have any problem
here (You are an elite that is aiming for maximum score right?). If there is
any, that's probably because of his jump attack that he will use it only
once after his life is reduced below half. E.S mode may be used if you want
to be safe.

--Two trucks are coming. Shoot as many bullets from machine gunners as
possible (there will be two or three). Use your MP7 to shoot bullets. One of
the enemies will drop another MP7 and one of them will drop an ammo box.

--Critical mission: Destroy an incoming truck before it hits you. The given
time is long but each target required six shots to destroy. Use MP7 here. In
order to select the first route, shoot window first. There will be more
bullets on the first route (the left route) and less dangerous than the
second route.

--When the screen moves to left, shoot the legs of enemies so you will not
hit the civilians running above them. Pick up the bullets from the two
machine gunners on the far left side. When the screen moves up, another
civilian will come out again. After you shoot the two enemies on the very
top of the building, one of them will drop an ammo box.

--When you see a coke machine, shoot trashcans next to it to get a life.
After shooting some enemies in military uniform, four elite guards will
appear. Use E.S mode here, needless to say.

--Critical mission: Shoot failing griddles and let them fail on your
enemies. An easy mission that you should not fail.

--Shoot bullets from a machine gunner companied with two soldiers on the
rope.

--In next section, two grenade throwers will appear but notice that there
will be a female innocent comes out first. Both of the grenade throwers will
drop an ammo box. You should have more than 700 MP3 bullets by now.

--When you face enemies on highway, pick up bullets from two machine
gunners. Shooting cars and blowing them up will delay your enemies'
movement. I suppose it is a bug in VCIII.

--The next group of enemies moves pretty fast so fire quickly here. Beware
of a police officer after you kill one enemy behind the tree, and enemy type
B appears as the last enemy of this combat.

--Area II ends. If you still don't reach level 16, you are screwed.
(Considering this is your first attempt to the maximum score). Try to do
more three points shots next time, man...

--After you enter the subway, a trashcan contains a M4 shotgun inside. For
God's sake DO NOT pick it up. You will lose your MP7 with lots of ammo, plus
you are going to kill innocents if you use that cursed M4 shotgun.

--Next it one of the toughest parts in Virtua Cop III. Lots of civilians are
running between criminals. Use your Guardian II handgun and shoot carefully:

i. Do not shoot anyone before the lock-on-sight appears. The lock-on-sights
indicate the best time to strike enemies here.

ii. Do not try to pick up anything that is dropped by enemies here.

iii. When you are shooting an enemy that is standing, try to shoot his leg.
It will reduce the chance of hitting civilians.

iv. The fourth enemy is a machine gunner. You can pick up some bullets from
him. But if you are not confident about your accuracy, just shoot him.

v. After the machine gunner, use E.S mode all the way until civilians escape
the subway area.

vi. Try to do justice shot on the last enemy to get some extra E.S energy.
This is optional.

--When you reach the ticket checking counter, a ticket checker will appear
after you kill two enemies on left. Beware of an incoming enemy that appears
very close to the innocent.

--An enemy type B In the information center.

--A hostage will be pushed out first followed by an enemy.

--Beware of a melee attacker before you turn left to the ticket checking
station.

--After you turn left, an enemy is waiting. Then you will turn right and two
enemies are lying on the floor-Use E.S mode to avoid shooting innocents
behind them.

--Four elite guards appear between lots of civilians-most of their bodies
are covered by hostages. The trick is to wait a bit longer 'till their heads
are clear enough to shoot then use E.S mode to take them out. You must aim
VERY carefully. Shoot enemies from left to right. Or you can take the far
right one first before the lock-on-sight appears, since he is not actually
blocked by innocents.

--Move down and there will be more enemies. Be careful because most of them
attack very fast. You will encounter the mysterious man in red cloak again.

+-------------+
+ Boss: Brand +
+-------------+

--When he runs to left, use Guardian II. Four enemies will appear after he
reaches far left.

--When he runs to right, switch to MP7 and use it all the way 'till the end
of mission. The idea of switching to Mp7 here is because his body will
remain blocked most of time when he starts to run to the right.

--More enemies will appear. Kill them with MP7 and shoot Brands 'till his
dual guns drop.

--With your MP7 you will not have any problem to deal with his boomerangs.
You can use E.S mode when he throws three boomerangs, but it should not be
needed because he will not throw all of them at the same time, but one after
another instead. Try to shoot him as much as possible every time you block
his boomerangs and reduce his life. The less life he has, the easier the
later part will be.

--There will be an enemy on the first incoming train. The lock-on-sight will
start with orange when he appears on the screen, and he comes from a VERY
WERID angle!!! Do not save your E.S mode against him, he is deadly.

--More enemies will appear.

--You will see Brand is fleeing from you. You can damage him here if he
still has more than one fourth of his life.

--Another enemy will be on the second incoming train, but this one is much
easier than the previous train rider.

--When Brand starts to throw Boomerangs again, be careful. Use E.S mode when
you see three boomerangs are thrown together.

--After you reach the end, shoot Brand like mad and do not let him have
chance to throw any weapon. With your MP7 it is not hard to do is at all.

--Whether you finish the last two critical missions or not is not important.
If you fail either of them, he will flee, but this has very little to do
with getting maximum score.

Normal Mission ends. You should have:

7 lives
Level 16
Score at least 28,000,000+ at this point

+-----------------------------+
+ c. Hard Mission: Owl Strike +
+-----------------------------+

Note: There will be NO civilian in the first area, so QUICK FIRE is all you
need here. Also, concentrate on shooting bullets from machine gunners in
hard mission. And DO NOT LOSE ANY LIFE before you have 99,999,999. The moral
of passing the first area without losing a life is to cover you with heavy
fire. Shoot your front constantly NO MATTER whether there are enemies there
or not, except machine gunners because they have to be alive a little longer
so you can get bullets from them. Using E.S mode is warranted any time the
lock-on-sight turns into red in hard mission.

--Some fast-attacking enemies will appear at the beginning of the mission.

--A very easy critical mission. After that few riflemen will appear attack
from afar.

--After you process forward, there will be few machine gunners. Try not to
destroy the barrel now. If you do, you will get a G36T assault rifle, do not
pick it up.

--When you are pulling back, two grenade throwers will appear. One of them
is almost completely blocked by wooden boxes. That's why I recommend you to
blow the barrel at this point.

--Two very fast moving enemies will appear on the right side next to a
barrel, but please do not attempt to destroy the barrel to kill your
enemies, because if you are not quick enough, one of them will shoot you
before you hit the barrel. I have seen at least four people lost their lives
here because they think blowing the barrel up here is cool.

--After a FMV, start covering yourself with rapid fire. The fourth (or
fifth?) enemy is a machine gunner. Almost every of your enemies here attack
very fast, so you have to pay attention on everyone.

--One of the enemies in water will drop a life box. If you have the G36T
assault rifle, it will sometimes be an ammo box.

--After you shooting six enemies in the water, rapidly shoot all incoming
enemies, including those appear on another side of the sewer, and five
enemies coming one after another on the top (The five enemies on top could
be deadly because your lock-on-sight starts with red when you see them).

--Beware of a melee attacker after you take down enemies on top.

--Two machine gunners will appear while you are climbing the ladder. Shoot
three more enemies in water and one more machine gunner will appear again.

--Fast shoot your enemies before you reach the second floor. You will not
have any problem. One of them will drop a revolver and you should never pick
up a useless weapon as such. When screen turns to left, quickly take downs
enemies on pipes and more on the first floor.

--When you reach the second floor, shoot barrel to take down some enemies.

--Two machine gunners will appear. After killing them, a melee attacker will
appear.

--There will be some machine gunners after you kill the first melee
attacker, but many of them will show up at the same time, and they all
attack very fast, so USE E.S MODE EVERYTIME YOU SEE A RED LOCK-ON-SIGHT.
Also grad as many bullets as you can possibly get here. When the screen
pulls back, the second melee attacker appears.

--More enemies will appear. When you see three enemies with shields on the
far left side, use E.S mode because one of the shielded enemies attacks
faster than other people and it is hard to shoot him because he is protected
by shield.

--BEWARE OF THE THIRD MELEE ATTACKER HERE!!! He comes from nowhere and
leaves you NO TIME to react. If you see him on the screen it will be too
late for you.

When you kill the shielded enemies, the screen will move to left twice then
this dare devil will appear. The best way to save your life is to rapidly
shooting this point when the screen starts to turn to left:

                +--------------------------------------+

       P

                +--------------------------------------+

You will shoot him before you see him if you follow the instruction here.

--Rapidly shooting the top of crafts and you will get most of your enemies
coming from the tunnel. E.S mode is recommended when your fingers are tired.

--After killing the shielded guys, beware of some fast enemies. One of them
will drop a life box. Use E.S mode to puck it up because the last deadly
gunner will appear with Lock-On-Sight already fresh red. Kill him and the
first area is over.

--You should have

9 lives
Level 16
Score at least 39,000,000+ at this point.

--When you enter the second area, one of the first group of the enemies will
drop a MP7. Pick it up.

--Some machine gunners will appear later. Use MP7 to get their bullets.

--When you advance to the military airport, many enemies will be waiting for
you. It is VERY DANGEROUS to shoot any of them before the lock-on-sight
appears because doing so will trigger the next enemies attacking more
quickly. None of them is machine gunner but surprisingly, you can acquire
fair amount of bullets here. You should switch to your Guardian II gun when
you are almost run out of MP7 ammos because you might need it later.

--Some enemies will appear on the top of a building. Shoot them from afar
instead of waiting 'till you are too close to them

--A hostage will appear after the screen moves up to the next floor. Also,
the first enemy on this floor attacks very fast. E.S mode is warranted here

--The screen will move up to one more floor and one of the enemies will drop
an ammo box.

--Critical mission: This is an easy one, but the tricky part is that one of
the four targets might require more than one shot to destroy. So if you want
to play cool in front of crowd and try to finish all targets with but four
shots, it could be dangerous. If you fail this missions, nine enemies will
appear AT THE SAME TIME, but none of them is a machine gunner, so this
mission it not worth to fail.

--Five enemies will be in front of a military truck. Kill them and some
machine gunners will appear from the left.

--When screen moves up to the upper floor of a stock building, beware of an
innocent after you finish three enemies. Two enemies will appear on the left
and right side of the hostage and USE E.S MODE THE SHOOT THEM!!! The
designer of VC III is very tricky here. The screen will suddenly move to
right very little when the first enemy shows up next to the hostage and it
will mass up your aiming. You think you are aiming the enemy, but you will
end up with killing the hostage, and bye-bye to your maximum score journal.

--The screen will pull back them move forward again. Two hostages will
appear but the left one is an enemy that tries to deceive you. You can shoot
him before the lock-on-sight appears.

--More enemies will appear from the bottom floor.

--Two hostages will appear. DO NOT blow up the truck here or you might blow
up the hostages as well (it rarely happens, but it DOES happen).

--When the screen moves to between two crafts, an enemy type A will SUDDENLY
appear after you shoot three enemies. Do not kill the hostage at his hand.
Then an enemy type B will appear.

--When the screen pulls back another DEALY melee attacker will appear and he
attacks even faster than the one I warned you in the first area!!! When the
screen starts to move back, focus fire on this spot:

                +------------------------------------+

       P
                +------------------------------------+

You will again, hit the enemies before you even see him.

--Critical mission: Hit four missiles before any of them hit you. You have
to pass or you lose a life. With MP7 it will be a piece of cake

--Another Critical mission: You have to destroy a moving target with but a
single rocket. Whether you fail or not, it won't matter anything.

--Area II ends here. You should have maximum lives (9 lives) and close to
52,000,000+ points right now. 45,000,000~49,000,000 is acceptable, but not
good.

Note: The third area of the hard mission is the most important to all
players who are aiming for maximum score. Numerous machine gunners will
appear in this area and the bullets will as many as rain drops. I hope you
do remember how to use E.S mode properly to get decent bullets. Tips are in
the second chapter of this guide. The enemies here are insanely easy except
few. I will not waste time on how to defeat most of them. Basically, when
you see an incoming truck, shoot inside madly before you move on. Sometimes
there will be few innocents in trucks, and I will mention them later so you
can memorize where you should be careful.

--A lady VC will pick you up with a jeep and you have a heavy machine gun
now. Remember to switch to machine gun when you shoot bullets.

--One of enemies in the first incoming truck will drop an ammo box.

--Another enemy in the second incoming truck will drop another ammo box.

--The third incoming truck has machine gunners on it.

--An enemy will attack you on a jeep.

--When you see three crates, shoot them and acquire ammos inside. Use your
machine gun to take down two choppers. Use E.S mode when the lock-on-sight
turns to orange.

--An incoming truck that carries three machine gunners and some hostages
inside. When you finish shooting bullets and are going to kill your enemies,
try to shoot their heads or any upper part of them instead of their legs to
avoid killing innocents.

--Another truck with machine gunners on it.

--Beware of the next incoming enemies on a jeep. They are fast.

--More machine gunners...are you tired of them? There will be more. You might
be short on your E.S energy here so you may want to do justice shots on some
of your enemies here to recover your E.S energy bar.

--When you see some crates on the far left side (one of crates contains an
ammo box), an incoming truck will appear on left with three machine gunners
on it. Note one of them attacks much faster than other two. You should
activate E.S mode as soon as you see the truck.

--A chopper will throw four railing bars toward to your jeep. Use machine
gun to destroy them before any of them hits you.

--Two trucks are coming. The right one has many enemies and the first one is
a machine gunner. The second truck has only one enemy on it, but do not
shoot the lower part of him or you might hurt the hostage in the truck as
well.

--When you see another three crates, destroy one of them to get ammo.
Destroying all of them is risky because two choppers will appear and they
are much more dangerous than the previous two choppers. Use E.S mode any
time the lock-on-sight turns to orange or red.

--There will be a jeep with few enemies on it. When you finish them, beware
of another one that appears from no where on your down left side.

--The last truck is coming. Lots of machine gunners will be on there!!! It
is basically your last chance to shoot bullets in this area. However, if you
have only 93,000,000+ points after collecting bullets here, you might still
be able to get few millions from Crab, and get your last two millions from
the extra mission. There will be one more enemies after the truck

+------------+
+ Boss: Crab +
+------------+

Joe Fang (If you have beaten VCII, he was the last boss that riding on a
lame rocket, much reminded me Green Goblin in Spider Man movie) is
controlling a huge machine called crab. Basically this boss is easy since
you can constantly damaging him by shooting any part of this body. (Some
people think Crab's weak point is on the red spot in the central of the
machine, but they are deadly wrong. You can kill Crab by shooting any part
of it. It is not like playing The House of Dead). But if you want to collect
bonus by shooting bullets from Crab, it can, and will be VERY dangerous.

Crab has two chain guns on both side of it and both of them shoot decent
amount of bullets toward to you. However, if you use E.S mode and try to get
bullets from Crab's chain guns, the gun itself will be blocked by bullets
(because there are too many of them) and you will not be able to touch the
chain gun one bit when the E.S mode is activated. And after you released
your E.S pedal, you might not be fast enough to stop the chain gun from
attacking you.

The best way to solve this problem is to get a G36T assault rifle during the
battle. After Crab using Chain gun once, it should swift to right than pull
back. Three boxes will appear when the Crab is moving back, one of them
contains a G36T assault rifle inside (and there will be another one contains
a revolver in order to screw your game up). The same situation will happen
once again and the crafts will be renewed but once. One of them should give
you an ammo box. Use your Guardian II to collect bullets from Crab's Chain
gun and use G36T to stop the attacking after you release your E.S pedal. If
you need to collect bullets during Crab fight in order to attempt the
maximum score, do not shoot Crab's body if there is no lock-on-sight on it.
The longer he survives, the more times it will use its chain guns.

If you have gotten the maximum score (and you should have if you are a
decent player and follow this guide), the tips above is crap to you because
you simply have to destroy it.

Other things players have to notice during the crab fight:

--It's main pulsar requires more shots to stop it from attacking. Use E.S
mode.

--It sometimes fire missiles but there is plenty of time before any of them
hit you. If you have made this far you will not have any problem to destroy
them.

--Constantly shoot its body if you won't it to die quickly.

--Critical mission: After Crab's life is running out, it will launch eight
missiles and you have to destroy them in a certain amount of time of Crab
will flee. Shooting missiles from down left to upper right and you should
not have any problem. If you still have some ammos for your G36T assault
rifle, this mission will be even easier.

The hard mission is over here!!! After collecting all bonus points, did you
get maximum score? If you are very close, try beating extra mission for your
last chance. If you have score less than 97,000,000, follow this guide more
closely and practice more next time!!!

***IV: Frequently asked questions***

Q: How do I know the difficulty I am playing?

A: When you see the targets in critical missions require less shots than
this FAQ describes, or you made over 10,000,000+ in simple mission with your
first five attempts, you are playing easy or very easy mode.

I assume most of gaming machines in Europe and North America set difficulty
on very easy or easy, as Japanese usually drop game difficulty when they
send their games to western world, especially action and arcade.

Q: I beat all three missions and the game is over here!!! Where is the extra
mission?

A: You have to meet requirements below to access Extra mission:

--You have to play VC III as the following order: Simple mission, Normal
mission, Hard mission.

--Brand shall NOT flee at the end of Normal mission.

--You must destroy all eight missiles in the end of Hard mission and destroy
Crab.

Again, extra mission is not an important factor to get maximum score, this
is why I do not discuss it much in this guide.

Q: It is too hard for me to destroy the chopper during the one-shot critical
mission at the end of the second area of Hard mission!!! What will happen if
I do?

A: Nothing will happen except an extra 10,000 points. If you really want to
shoot down that annoying chopper, here is a tip:

                  +----------------------------------+
                  + +
                  + C +
                  + +
                  + B +
                  + A +
                  + +
                  + +
                  + +
                  + +
                  + +
                  +----------------------------------+

The target will stop for a very short amount of time at point A, B, and C.
Have your gun aim the target A and try to get used to target's movement.
Follow the target to spot B, then stop a bit, then follow the target to spot
C and shoot.

Q: Can this guide be used on machine that is set on very hard difficulty?

A: The basic concept is the same, and there will be no more enemy than
machine that is set on normal/hard mode, however, there will be less bullets
can be collected in the entire game, so it requires more skill to achieve
this goal.

Q: How do I activate Mist Mode for hard mission?

A: "Mist Mode" is a mode for elite players that can memorize almost
everything in hard mode. You can activate this mode by constantly pressing
start bottom before the first scene of Hard Mission starts. A mist will
cover everything in hard mission that leaves almost everything unseen but
your lock-on-sights.

Q: How come you never mentioned basic controlling and skipped some details
in this guide?

A: I said this before and I will say it again. This guide is for getting
99,999,999 points in VCIII, not a walkthrough. I suppose my audiences are
all vets that are able to beat the game with one credit and try to attempt
the challenge.

Q: Is it possible to beat the game with dual guns and get maximum score with
both hands?

A: It is not hard to beat the game with dual guns, I did it all the time.
However, anyone claims beating VCIII with maximum score for both hands with
game setting anywhere beyond simple setting is a damn LIAR because I have
plenty of proofs that this accomplishment CANNOT BE ACHIEVED in any mode
that is normal or above. And do not ask me this question again on any board.
I am telling you why right now and that will be it. If you said you have
done it, you are either playing VCIII with very simple setting or you lied.

The first problem is that there will NOT be enough enemies and bullets for
you to get maximum score for both hands. The best record of VCIII so far was
made by Japanese with score around 260,000,000 in normal (or hard) setting I
believe. But this does not mean you can get 130,000,000 for both hand. The
number of enemies will NOT increase in two players mode, the only thing will
increase is your enemies' attacking speed, and you need double enemies to
have both hands level 16 before you can even dream about maximum score.
Where do you get these many enemies? According to my previous tests, if you
can reach level 16 with a single hand at the end of the first area of normal
mission, you will have both hand level 16 at the end of the first area of
the hard mission. That leaves you the last two-third score to collect the
score you will need. And since your enemies are the same as single players
mode, regardless the bonus collected by shooting bullets (and it can be
ignored because the bonus of shooting bullets are insignificant before you
can reach level 16, and you have TWO HANDS to share the same amount bullets
that you can collect in a single player game). You should have both hand
around 9,000,000~12,000,000+. Cannot be over 20,000,000 at the end of the
first area of the Hard mission. (And I never achieved a goal as such, but
I/we estimated what elite players that are much better than I am could do,
and I/we tried to overestimate them if possible. I tested VC III in this
way: I played the game with one gun, and switch to another gun after the gun
that was previously used reached level 16. That's not actually a dual play.
Your accuracy is worse if you use two guns at the same time).

Okay, suppose you really can do 20,000,000 points with both hands at this
point...you want to collect 80,000,000 points for both hands in the rest of
hard missions, with enemies halved, bullets halved, everything halved?
IMPOSSIBLE!!!

Another thing is about human's physical limit. If you are a right handed,
try to play VC with but you left hand and see if you can beat normal
mission. Everyone has a hand that is more frequently used and another that
is used less often. Most dual players I have seen in various countries have
to use their used hands to cover another hand while playing dual games. Even
with special training, it is almost impossible to use both hands equally.
This because your left hand is controlled by the right half of your brain,
and your right hand is controlled by the left half of your brain. Rarely was
anyone born with a brain with both sides equal.

Even the problem above can be solved by lots of training (at least can be
improved. I am right handed but I can barely go through the simple and
normal mission with my left hand alone right now), another problem is that
people usually use different eye to judge distance when using different
hand, which means even if you can use any of your hands to beat VC III with
99,999,999, one of your hand will still lose at least some of accuracy while
you are playing both hands together.

And suppose you are a superman that can conquer all problems above, the key
is still here: You simply won't have enough enemies and enough bullets to

get maximum score for both hands unless you are playing very easy /easy
mode.

*** V. Appendix: Extra Mission: Heaven's Door ***

This mission only gives you 2,000,000+ points, but it is fun. So that's get
is started.

--You should have 9 lives if you are a 99,999,999 player, but it is very
possible to not to lose any life in this mission

--When you see gale, there are two things you should keep in mind: One is to
shoot fast when the lock-on-sight appears, another is to use E.S mode when
he uses jump attack. Gale jump attack now becomes very fast and annoying.
However, it is possible for him not to use any jump attack in this battle,
what triggers him using jumping attack in this battle is currently unknown,
I would say it is random. Many people will recommend blowing jeeps behind
him to get the MP7 machine gun, but I oppose doing so because it takes you
time and leaves you vulnerable, also there will be a M4 if you blow both
jeeps. For God's sake, don't take it.

--Now there will be lots of Joe Fangs flying around. Their attack pattern is
always the same. Each Joe Fang has two models behind him. One Joe Fang will
attack, then the left model; Joe Fang will attack again, then the right
model; Joe Fang will attack the third time and die after you shoot him, then
the left model will fly toward to you, then the right model will. After one
group is gone, another Joe Fang will attack.

The most dangerous attack is from the dual models' smash attack after you
kill each Joe Fang. There are many methods to deflect this attack, but the
best way is to shoot the models before they rush to you. Since you know
which one is going to attack next, you can shoot it before the lock-on-sight
appears and it will take damage before it attacks. Also the models are much
more vulnerable before the lock-on-sight appears. It is possible to destroy
them before they fly toward to you.

E.S mode is instructed if any model is getting too close to you, or the
screen changes its angle and attitude significantly that masses up your
aiming (it usually happens at least once).

+-----------------+
+ Boss: Dino Fang +
+-----------------+

--Dino Fang's first form uses a chain gun as its main weapon. And it is more
dangerous when Dino Fang is flying because its wings right wing will
frequently block its gun. To prevent you being damaged from this situation
requires some skill of using E.S mode: Activate E.S mode when Dino Fang's
gun is not blocked by his wing and you can deflect its attack before you
release E.S pedal.

--After you blow up Dino Fang's chain gun, he will attack you with either
melee or throwing rocks. Use E.S mode when he throws rocks. His melee attack
can be blocked easily by shooting him quickly. His is much easier than Joe
Fang in Virtua Cop II. Why would a human want to become a dinosaur? It only
makes him more stupid.

--Happy ending and hope you get maximum score soon. If you are playing easy
or very easy mode, you will find getting 99,999,999 is much easier than this
FAQ describes because you can get more than 15,000,000+ points easily in
simple mission.
