The Walkthrough

Yes, friends, this guide happens to be the only one (At least) for Violent
Storm. Not many people have played this wonderful game, so even if you've
never played it, at least look at the guide and see what it's like-you'll
be amazed at what it has to offer. And of other note, if you can look past
the cliche plot of your girl getting kidnapped, you'll it one of the greatest
games to ever be made into an arcade game. It's a shame it wasn't ported
onto the SNES (Genesis wouldn't look that good IMO), but this could be re-made
for the Game Boy Advance. Unfortunately, the chances would be slim. Plus,
it's Final Fight, but with blood! This, my friends, is the best beat 'em
up ever (In my Opinion at least)!
Update History:
8/13/2002- The guide's first release.

1. Controls
There are three main controls for this arcade. An attack button, a jump button,
and a Joystick you move with. They all speak for themselves. Here's the
moves, however. I'm not sure if that's the entire list, and I'm also certain
I got some attacks wrong (If possible). All attacks assume your character
is facing to the right.
Wade
Profile:
The middle character of the group, and is really a good one to pick for
starters. Because he's balanced in speed and strength, he should be a
versatile character for many.
Attack- A couple of punches, finishes with a roundhouse kick.
Jump, then attack- A jump kick
Jump & Attack together- Hurricane Kick (From Street Fighter, drains some
health can move while doing this)
Backward and attack- Wade attacks from behind with his fist
Downward diagonally forward and attack- A trip.
Downward diagonally forward and Jump- Dashes forward with arms out.
Downward Diagonally Forward, then jump, followed by attack- During the move
mentioned above, hit attack for a flying kick that does more damage.
Jump onto a wall, and hit jump again- Wall jump kick (Fans of Final Fight
will recognize this attack right away.)
Up and Attack- An uppercut.
When grabbing someone, attack- A few body blows.
Grab someone from the front- A monkey flip.
Grab someone from behind- An over the shoulder throw.
Boris
The typical "Slow, but strong" guy is seen here. He can pick up anyone very
heavy without hesitation (Unlike Wade and Kyle, who have to struggle a bit)
and has some nasty grab moves.
Attack- A few punches, then an uppercut.
Jump, then attack- Jump kick, but when moving, you try to land your body on
top of your enemies (I forgot the name)
Jump and Attack together- Spinning clothesline (Also from Street Fighter,
and Final Fight!)
Backward and attack- He attacks from behind with his head.
Downward Diagonally forward and Attack- A roll attack.
Downward Diagonally Forward and Jump- A dashing headbutt.
Downward Diagonally Forward, the Jump, followed by Attack- During the move
mentioned above, hit attack for a flying move where he turns around and jumps
backwards for more damage!
Jump next to a wall, then hit jump- He too, can do a wall leap!
When Grabbing someone, Attack- A few body blows.
Grab someone, then forward and attack- Throw someone.
Grab someone, then Up and Attack- Backbreaker (My review said that it was
Down and Attack, but it's the same way he throws someone regularly. It can
also be done in midair, but he has to land first.)
Grab someone, then Jump and Attack- Piledriver.
Kyle
And of course, there's the agile one of the group. Make wonderful use of
his speed (And the kick flurry attack) and you'll more than likely give him
the advantage he needs.
Attack- Kicks a few times, then a roundhouse kick.
Jump, then Attack- Jump kick.
Attack and Jump together- Spinning Bird Kick (Another move from Street
Fighter fame).
Backward and attack- he attacks from behind with his elbow.
Downward Diagonally Forward and Attack- Slide.
Downward Diagonally forward and Jump- He charges forwards with his arms out,
a push of sorts.
Downward Diagonally Forward and Jump, then attack- A flying kick, I believe.
Jump onto wall, then hit jump again- Triangle Kick.
Attack repeatedly- Kick flurry (The lightning kick for Street Fighter fans)
Attack when grabbing someone- a few body blows.
Grab someone from behind, then forward and attack- Over the shoulder throw.
Grab someone from the front, then forward and attack- a monkey flip.
Nice bonus for all characters: If a person is lying on the ground, just walk
up next to them and hit attack a few times!
2. Enemies
Before I explain how every enemy attacks and behaves in this game, I'd give
you a few pointers on how the enemy AI works. Don't underestimate them!
1. Just about every enemy in the game blocks. It doesn't happen often, but
they do. If an ememy or a boss has a weapon in their hands, they'll block
with it. If not, they'll use their hands.
2. If an enemy is on the ground, you can hit them while they're lying down.
However, the same applies to you, so be careful!
3. And know how enemies get back up to take more punishment? If you stand
next to an enemy, and they are about to get back up, they'll attack you if
you're close enough. This usually goes for people with weapons, although
unarmed enemies can do this too.
4. Enemies will knock over anything that's in their way. Barrels, crates,
you name it.
5. If an enemy appears from the background, and they start to get up, they'll
get in the first hit (Most of the time)
6. Enemies and even bosses can become fatiuged as they're taking damage (When
they get back up). I'm not sure f this also happens to you, but it probably
doesn't.
That's all I can get, at least. And now, the enemies.
Talcus /R.Talcus- These are the basic enemies of the game, dressed in yellow
pants and a green tank top (Red pants if you're dealing with R. Talcus) with
a blonde mohawk. Here, they just throw a few punches and either finish with
an uppercut or a kick to the side. Not too hard to defeat. Not surprizingly,
they're common.
Jaxom- They have brown hair with a headband around it, and are dressed in
green pants and a green shirt, with either a yellow or red swetshirt torn
over it, like a cape of sorts. They fight like the Talcus enemies, but smarter.
Also makes frequent appearances.
Crossbones- These guys here are dressed in red pants with a black tank top
and and red mohawk. They carry pipes, and will not hesitate to use them.
About one or two appear within a group of enemies, but can still be dangerous.
They'll bash you over the head with their pipes, as well as run and swing
them wildly. They also seem to enjoy hopping on one foot.
Gigadeath- A little 80-ish, aren't we? They're dressed in a rock star outfit
(I can't really tell to be honest) and long purple or green hair, shaking
it wildly. They'll beat you with their chains, whip at you with them from
a distance, and grab and choke you with them, but they'll too busy doing their
(Insert famous rock band here) impression to do anything. Unlike Crossbones,
several appear in groups.
Ryuken/R. Ryuken- My favorite enemy. Also very annoying. They are dressed
in red or blue karate outfits and the face looks like a member of a 60's group
(It's either the Beatles or Monkees). R. Ryukens wear red, regular ones wear
blue. They tend to hit you with a chop and back off, and do jump kicks as
well. The R. Ryuken tends to do a move where he jumps on top of you a few
times. Also, if you're too close to one when they get up, they'll grab you
by the neck with your legs and slam you to the ground. OUCH!
Liza/Eliza- The female assistants of the game with a short skirt and a vicous
smile. They stab you high and low with their knives, as well as do a jump
kick and slide across with their knives out. For the record, Lizas is in
black skirts, Elizas are in lavender.
Lollypop/Lollypop jr.- I LOVE Konami's choice of name for this guy! They
are the fat guys of Violent Storm. They do a chest bump into you Andore style,
grab you and do a bellyflop slam on you, and jump on you whenever you're down.
They may breathe fire, but they usually don't do that. The orignal Lollypop's
come in a blueberry flavor (Blue pants), the other one is a nice coated cherry
flavor (Red pants). Unlike other fat guys in bat 'em ups, they don't wear
doofy outfits like in the original Final Fight and Streets of Rage, you're
looking at about 800 pounds of fat here.
Spike/R. Spike- Hence the name, these bald guys wear spiked clothing (The
original ones wear black. Guess what the R. Spike color clothes is) and and
have a...well...spike on their heads. They charge at you, and it's almost
impossible to counter that. They also do a few midair knees, and grab you,
do a few bear hugs, and throw you. And their laugh is so annoying.
Dr. Hogan-they don't appear much, to be honest. These hobos just throw a
bomb and walk away. It's funny how they die, too. A bomb goes off in their
face! The bombs can hurt you and other enemies, too.
Bull- An easier verison of the first stage boss, Dabel. See the walkthrough
for more details.
3. Items
Food- They come in many varities, ranging from ice cream cones to candy bars,
to soda, fruits, pizza, hamburgers, and turkey. They replenish your health,
of course.
Knives- You stab with them a couple of times, then throw it eventually. I
don't bother using these.
Pipes- The classic metal pipe. At least it's more useful than the knife.
Other junk- Teddy bears, books, lets just say this: If it's not any of the
above items, it's only there for points.
4. Walkthrough
Stage 1: The Subway Station
I love the intro to the game. Red Freddy gets away and the door closes, but
your car (A Cadilaac I assume) breaks it down and your character(s) jump out!
Too cool.
Anyway, lets get down to business. You'll fight a few Talcus and Jaxom's
and even the occasional Ryuken here. They aren't much to worry about, though.
Break through the barrels and continue. A Ryuken will appear from the
background, doing backflips. You'll also see Red Freddy getting away (Wicked
maniac, isn't he?). You'll still be facing the usual mentioned eariler.
Eventually, you'll get to a gate later on, break or let the enemies do that.
Either way you can make short work of them. You'll also see Crossbones and
Liza for the first time. Afterwards, you'll get to a wall, in which the first
boss will break through...
Boss: Dabel
This guy's a wimp. 95% of the time I can defeat this guy with little effort
and without losing a life. Here, he'll swing his club, charge toward you
with it, and swing his club on the ground and cause junk to rain from the
ceiling, do a special move if you think they'll fall on your head. He also
jump kicks at you, usually after you get back up, but all these attacks are
easy to avoid. Just use your punch combo, back off, and defeat. Throughout
the fight, you can knock off his cape. Pick it up for points. After this
loser is defeated, it's onto the next stage.
Stage 2: The train
This is fun! You can knock people off the train here! Anyway, go forward,
doing your usual butt-kicking routines. You'll encounter Dr. Hogun here,
but he doesn't appear as much. Use a special so you can wipe him out (He
only take one hit). Also, before the enterance, you'll meet the R. Ryuken
for the first time. Watch out for his jump move!
After this, you'll fight your way along the train. During the rumble, you'll
notice a brown box. A Liza nearby will kick it, causing bombs to spill out,
avoid! Also, you'll encounter a mother pig and some piglets, you can pick
up the piglets and use them as footballs (A very funny stage indeed!). After
more of the same, you'll enocunter the second boss.
Boss: Joe
A little harder than Dabel. He'll use that clamping thingy (Probably a
crowbar or something) and hit you with it, clamp you with it, and dash at
you with it. He'll also roll as well. After he loses some health, he'll
call for help and a Lollypop will come. He doesn't have much health, so defeat
him. He'll now have the same weapon as before, but it's electric this time.
Again, avoid and deliver the pain, and he'll drop it when he's near death
(About 10%-5% of his health should remain). He'll call for another Lollypop,
you know the routine. After that he'll jump around and jump on you and scratch
you a few times. But it doesn't matter, jump around and hit him when you
have a chance and he'll go away soon.
Stage 3: Downtown
OH, YEAH! I want to dance to the music. This has people rapping to the music.
You may have heard some singing in stage 1, but this is some of the best music
you'll ever hear in an arcade game!
Starting things off, you'll bump into a Ryuken, kill him. Then from here
on out, it's the usual-crowd of enemies. You may even see one or two Dr.
Hoguns, who make their last appearance here. Barrels will also roll at you
throughout the stage (Remember Final Fight?), use a special, you may see food.
Once you reach the enterance to the club, you'll shake hands with the Spike
enemy. Get used to that annoying laugh. A generous soul will offer you pizza,
just take it. There's also just one of the spike enemies, he shouldn't be
any difficult.
Once inside the club, you'll work your way through the club, smashing anything
that takes your fancy, whether it would be the thugs you'll encounter, or
tables and chairs. And if you wait at the area where the enemies are being
given drinks, the bartender will slip you a money bag. How generous.
Eventually, your fight will be next to the stage, where you'll see a belly
dancer preforming on there. The music will also change. From here, it'll
go into the kitchen, where you'll encounter about a few more Spike enemies
with the same losers. At the exit to the club, break through the door and
hit the Spike behind it. If you're too slow, you'll be hit by his charge.
Then you'll see Red Freddy drop you into a cage with your third boss.
Finat Fight ripoff...(cough cough)
Boss: Drigger
A pain to be fair. You can use the walls of the cage (That triangle jump)
to hit him from a distance. He does a flying headbutt, he slaps you, and
a handful of wrestling moves, one which includes of him throwing you in the
air and hitting you in the gut with his horn! Don't always use a punch combo,
you'll get knocked down almost everytime near the end. And beacuse of his
heavy size, you'll have to smash buttons real quick to throw him (Unless your
Boris). The best way to get in some hits is to wait untll he does an attack,
then make your move. Afterwards, you'll win eventually, but you may need
to use a token or two for this guy.
Stage 4: Industrial Area
A Jaxom will be asleep on the ground, and for a while you'll be fighting
GigaDeaths and Ryukens. That bit with barrels will be done again, so be ready
when they appear. Near the enterance, you'll fight another Spike enemy and
several friends as before, but he enters by charging, so move away first.
Once it's all over, you'll enter the factory.
Here, you'll encounter machines that'll smash you. Enemies can be crushed
by them for a cute animation. And the best part is this: Once they're
flattened, they're dead for good. You can use this to you advantage to take
out the annoying enemies (Read: Spikes and Lollypops) here. Afterwards,
you'll get to an area where machines pour our melt steel. Again, just stay
in middle and the melt steel should harm them good enough. After smashing
a few more barrels, you'll meet this guy...
Boss: Doyle
Because of the heavy machinery on the jet pack, he's hard to lift with Wade
and Kyle. He has reach advantage over you thanks to that retractable arm,
and no matter what, you'll get hit. Thankfully, there's a way around it.
Start this off with a special attack, just to be sure you'll hit him. After
that, when he starts to get up, start pucnhing. By the time he's up, he should
be eating your fist. This pattern can be kept going until you beat him. If
that doesn't work, use the same strategy as Drigger, wait until he attacks,
then use the same strategy as Drigger. Wait until he attacks, then hit him
with no mercy. And near death, he'll fly around like a maniac, knocking you
over most of the time. A few jump kicks should do it, and he finished. I
like the way this guy dies, his jet pack malfunctions and it explodes, having
him fall into the melt steel. Sweet.....
Stage 5: The Park
Fog? Oh well, it won't be here long, in fact, it's starting to clear up.
A R. Ryuken will sneak up from behind you by hiding in a bush, and the usual
crowd is bacck for more. Bull is basically an easier version of the first
stage Boss, Dabel, and with lower health to boot, he shouldn't be a problem.
Your fight will then be taken into the Greenhouse. Talcus, Gigadeaths, Jaxoms,
and Ryukens will make your life miserable here. Knocking over one of the
palm trees will make fruit drop, but it doesn't fare too good in the health
area, so make sure you'll get out alive.
After exiting, stay near the top and destroy the marble statues, because a
Spike will chrage at the bottom of the screen. A Lollypop and other enemies
will join, too. The last statue at the top may have either a knife of a pipe.
And then, another boss.
Boss: Mr. Julius
This has got to be the goofiest boss I've even seen. PERIOD. Here, he'll
do a mid-air drill, slide toward you (But not that far), use his muscluar
poses to attack you, spin on his head with his legs stretched out, and throw
you. However, he's easy to beat, as his ego gets in the way. Wait until
he shows off his body (Probably to the ladies). You'll recognize this but
he'll jump to the center of the screen and flex his muscles. That's the best
chance to hit him and catch him off guard, but do it quickly. Don't always
rely on this tactic, he might not do it as much. Once he's blown up into
rocks (He was a statue for crying out loud), you're off to the port.
Stage 6: The Port
Not much is to say about this stage, unfortunately, you can knock people into
the water and a fish will come out to recover some health, but not much of
it. Also, the numerous enemies like Eliza, Jaxom, Talcus, and Gigadeath will
surround you an awful lot, maybe more than what you can typically handle.
Three Gigadeaths also come in and whip you a one point. A majority of the
battle will take place on the docks, and enemies can jump off of ships that
appear in the background. Near the end of the stage, smash through the barrels
the Talcus will knock over. Then, hit the lone barrel for a hamburger, you'll
need it.
Boss: Sledge
This looks like a Ninja Turtle, I swear! Anyway, he can use that black plate
as a weapon and whack you over the head with it. He also zips around, dissapear
and reappear somewhere else multiple times, grab you and slam you, and does
a flying kick. he blocks an awful lot and after doing so, he usually follows
up with a jump kick. He'll get on the defensive a lot, and so should you.
Wait until he attacks, move out of the way, and deliver some punishment. He'll
take a while to get him down, but it's worth it.
Stage 7: The Museum of Geld (Last Duel)
YEAH! THIS IS MY FAVORITE MUSIC OF THE ENTIRE GAME!! And I hope it's yours,
too. To start off, smash through the barrels, and wipe the Taclus and any
other enemies hanging around him. Keep going and you'll be surrounded by
Ryukens. After they're done for, try to smash all of the barrels and pick
up whatever's inside them (Unless your playing with 2 other people, in which
case, you've cleaned house preety quickly.
Once inside, you'll deal with a nasty crowd of enemies of all types. You'll
encounter Bull for the last time, Lollypops with fall from the ceiling, and
Lizas and Elizas will attack you from both sides. If you know how they work,
you'll have no problems working your way through here. But the numbers can
overwhelm you, so be ready. You'll eventually smash a marble statue, a secret
passage is behind it and the whole wall will come down.
You'll see enemies playing arcade machines, and while the machines can be
destroyed, some may explode, so watch it. Break open the cell door and the
women inside will give you a ring for freeing them. Your last enemies before
the boss will be several Spikes. And after they're done, you'll face Red
Freedy!
Boss: Red Freddy
He's actually easy, to be honest. He jump kicks a few times, dash through
you with his claws, attack you with his hair, and spin wildly with his claws
out. He blocks a lot like sledge, so be careful. If he does the spinning
move, don't attack him, he'll do it several more times. Wait a while, then
hurt him. He shouldn't provide you much trouble, however, as I said, he's
easy.
Until you meet this guy...
Final Boss: Geld
THIS. GUY. IS. HARD!!!! He has a HUGE variety of attacks, such a picking
you up and slamming you, dashing toward you, and much more. There are some
superpowered attacks he has, his main power of choice is to unleash a fireball
along the ground which is hard to avoid. You'll know he's about to this when
he says something like "Take this!" or "Blow you up!" If the pizza's still
here, go for it. He'll also spit acid, but that's easy to avoid, and it doesn't
do much damage. Later in the battle a green aura will surround him. Don't
be near him during this time, as there are several explosions around him.
He also blocks an awful lot, too, so this battle will take a while. And once
he's kaput, you'll have beaten Violent Storm!!!
7. Secrets and oddities
DemonDBC writes on the Violent Storm board that if you beat the game without
continuing, you'll be able to access the "Violent Round", where you face the
really tough enemies. You also don't get much time left. I just prefer to
plain beat it, but that's me.
In the Museum of Geld, you'll see various portraits of the bosses from the
entire Geld Gang, including Geld himself with a...puppy dog?
If you're playing in one or two player mode, and Geld is defeated, the person
who killed Geld gets the girl.
More later...
