1.STORY
===============================================================================
(taken directly from instruction booklet)
*Warning* If you are sensitive to really god awful poetry, I suggest you skip
this part, it may send you over the edge.
Long, long ago in a land named OG,
There lived a one-eyed caveman by the name of TROG,
And two characters, very much alike,
Mischievous little Dino-Mites named Bloop and Spike.
Spike and Bloop have one favourite past time...stealing Trog eggs.
Trogs have one favourite food...Dino-Mites, like Spike and Bloop.
It's a primeval recipe for adventure, especially when tar pits, bottomless
chasms, and Stone Age catapults add to the perils of tasting mmm...good.
Luckily, Trogs eat Fast, but think slow. Outsmarting even a jumping Trog takes
only some fancy footwork and a Dino Mite left hook!
Chomp away on a primitive pineapple and turn feeding time into Trog munching
mayhem! Eat a hot tomale and your fireballs will charbroil a Trog quicker than
a BBQ.
Ready for some eggcitement?
Ready to thump a Trog?
Go Spike. Go Bloop. First Dino-Mite home wins!.

|__| |__|
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
iii) Level Selection
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before you can play the game you have 10 seconds to choose which level of
difficulty you wish to play.
There are three boxes. The easy level is island one. You get no bonus points
for starting on this level. The advanced level is slightly harder, the trogs
seem faster and there are less items. You do, however get 200,000 bonus
points for starting at this level (handy if you going for the top score, which
incidentally gets erased when you turn the game pak off). The last level is the
Expert level. Yet again it is harder and you do get a 400,000 point bonus for
starting on the level.
If you fail to choose a level within the ten seconds given, the computer
chooses whichever level you are currently resting on.
***Note***
Unlike some games, who ever chooses first out of the two players does not get
the first Dino. Controller one is always Bloop and controller two always Spike.
No matter who presses the button first it always stays this way.
Also the second player (ie who ever starts second) can enter the game, whenever
they want. No point or life deductions are incurred, so if one player is worse
than the other, coming in late can be used as a handy cap.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
iv) Gameplay
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trog is a fairly easy game to play. The object of the game is to collect all
the trog eggs of the level and get to the exit (which appears when you collect
all the eggs), without being eaten by the trogs or falling victim to various
hazards.
If a second player comes into the game the eggs turn a striped of the colour
of whatever the first player Dino is (ie Bloop is player one the eggs will be
blue striped). This means that the eggs can be collected by either
Dino and the real race is to the exit.
This changes, the next level you play. In the next level you will notice that,
there are two types of eggs yellow and blue. The person with the blue Dino
must collect all the blue eggs and the Dino who is yellow the yellow eggs.
The aim of the two player games is to collect the eggs before your opponent
does and then race each other to the flashing exit of your body colour.
Whoever gets there first wins and gets 25,000 points for it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
v) Game Screen
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The game screen does not change from one player mode to two player mode, it is
always exactly the same. At the top of the Screen there are two boxes with a
number between them. The number indicates which island you are on (level). The
box on the left shows the person who has Bloop (controller 1), their life
status and point score. The box on the right, shows the same as Bloop but for
spike (controller 2)
Below this is the game play area.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
vi) Losing Life
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Losing life is an easy thing to do in Trog. So here is a description of how,
the life system is structured.
You have 3 lives to begin with and 2 continues. When your three lives are up,
you are given the choice of whether or not you want to continue. You have ten
seconds to make this choice and if you do not press the start button, the
computer registers game over. If you do press the start button, you use up one
continue and get three lives.
If you use up all the continues you get and the lives they bring, then your
game is over and you have to start again. You can however, get more lives in
the game to prevent this happening. These lives are accumulated when you pass
certain scores.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
vii) Entering Your High Score
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Entering your high score is remarkably easy and shouldn't even register in
this FAQ, but some people do get lost! (generally the loony ones). Here is
a foolproof way to enter your score.
You have three spaces, in which to put an abbreviation or initials of your name
or nick name.
To do so press the UP, DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT to scroll through the letters and
characters you want. When you like the letter press A and do the same for the
next two. If you want to have a one or two letter name, scroll to end and then
press A.
However, don't get too excited with your brilliance just yet. After you turn
the game pak off, the scores will be lost. They only remain there, as long as
you have the power on.
===============================================================================
3.The land of Og
===============================================================================
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i) Landscapes
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The land of Og consists of many different types of Islands. These Islands
however are all basically the same. What set them apart are certain features.
Below is a description of each type of island and the features that may be
integrated to make an island. As well as some items that feature more
frequently in certain types of Island.
First of all there is an overall theme that most islands try to present. This
could be a tropical theme with palm trees, a teleportation theme with a
teleport maze, an ice world with a wheel ring, a catapult theme, river divide
them and many others.
______________
( Basic island )
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
This is a level with very few bone barriers, It may have a trog statue in
one or many of the corners. Generally all you will have to deal with in these
levels are the trogs, fire, tar pits and holes.
____________
( Ice Island )
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The Ice Island is more complex. Generally there is a mid section in an
ice world where trogs pop up an throw wheels at you. (OF course they invent it
first). The section i am talking about looks like this
_____ The wheels rotate around the mid section trapping you,
__| _ |__ and eventually squishing you.
| |
¯¯| ¯ |¯¯
¯¯¯¯¯
Apart from the wheel there are the other basic hazards which you will run into.
The advantage of the Ice level is that there are many more ice cubes, to freeze
the trogs and the wheels.
_________________
( Catapult Island )
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
These islands are more often than not grey in colour. Sometimes they may have
ravines and you are trust into them randomly. The catapults are extremely
useful for escaping Trogs. These islands generally have equal amounts of items.
_____________________
( Jumping Trog Island )
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
These islands generally are catapult islands with the added terror of a few
bouncy spring shoed trogs (scary huh!!)
_____________________
( River Divide Island )
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
These islands usually have a horizontal river running through the island. It
actually looks more like there are two islands. There may be one, two or three
bridges across, which you can manoeuvre between islands.
_________________
( Tropical Island )
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
These islands have huge palm trees which you have to manoeuvre around in order
to collect all the eggs. There are generally alot more pineapples on these
islands.
____________________
( Odd Shaped Islands )
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The last few islands of the game are oddly shaped (still symmetrical), making it
harder for you to collect the eggs.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ii) Bonus Waves
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are three different types of bonuses in Trog in which you can participate
They are Trog Feast, Diamond Stealing and Trog BBQ. In each stage you have to
kill a certain amount of Trogs or collect an certain amount of diamonds,
within the given time frame to get a 100,000 point bonus.
If you are playing the two player your partner and you must fight it out to
see who can get the most of whatever is on offer.
___________
( Trog BBQ )
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
In the this Bonus you have to BBQ 25 Trogs in 25 seconds. The best idea is
take up position in a corner and keep 90º rotating to kill them. Of course
you will have to alternate between corners every now and then to get them
all, but it is easiest.
_______________
( Diamond Mine )
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The diamond mine is the next bonus. You have 15 seconds in the Diamond
Mine, in which to collect 40 Diamonds. The quickest route, is to go along the
top then down the side, ensuring you collect all the red flowers and along the
bottom. Be sensible when doing this bonus. You should know it is quicker to
dart down a length of diamonds zig zaging for the occasional stray one, than to
keep zig zagging the whole way around.
____________
( Trog Feast )
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
In this Bonus you have to eat 15 trogs in 25 seconds. The best idea is to stick
close to the bridges. That way you won't loose time by walking too much.

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ii) Trog Inventions and Bright Ideas
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Every 5 levels or so there is a trog animation that shows their bright ideas.
A screen saying Trog's cave in neon lights cuts to a Trog close up. A light
bulb appears above the Trogs head and one of the following happens;
· That Dino-Mites provide meat
· Spring shoes allow you to jump
· Catapults can hurl you in the air
· Rubbing a stick in the ground creates fire
· Hitting a club into the ground gives you a hole
· If you bash a Dino- Mite you can eat them
· The wheel
The trog then gets an evil look on his face and it cuts away to the game.
===============================================================================
5.Tips, Tricks and Hints
===============================================================================
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i) Warps
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Every now you get a warp and your starting to think they're random right?.
Wrong!!!!!. There is nothing random about the generation of warps in Trog.
The way to get one is simple. When you first start each level, keep your
eye out for a white sparkle that appears on one of the eggs (usually it's a
corner egg but it can vary). Now be careful and collect every egg but the
sparkled egg. Collect it last and a warp should appear. Each time you warp,
you will skip three islands ahead (ie Warp on 5 and you go to 8).
***NOTE***
If you are killed at any stage before collecting the last egg the warp will
not work.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ii) Saving Your Buddy
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In two player mode there is a nifty way to save your partner. If they have just
been bashed over the head and not eaten yet, you can punch the trog out of the
way and your buddy will be saved. If he is eaten though, you can save him
from further devouring, but he will still die and come back .
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
iii) Extending Your One Player Game.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If your playing the player one game you will be able to do this to extend your
game. First make sure you have both controllers connected. When you realise you
are on the last life of your last continue press the pause button. Pick up and
press start on controller two. Then just go on playing with Spike allowing
Bloop to die. The only disadvantage is that you have to start from scratch with
your score.
===============================================================================
6. Ending
===============================================================================
Once you have finished the last level a screen appears with wow! written about
twenty times (covering the whole screen) and a message reads; YOU DID IT. You
have joined the ranks of the trog elite. From there it tells you how many
levels you finished and gives you bonus points for each level. You are then
told how many continues lives etc you did not use giving you points for what you
didn't use. If you haven't, it tells you to finish it with a continue for the
ULTIMATE BONUS. Game Over then flashes onto the screen and you can put your
name in the Daily Dino high score list.
===============================================================================
7.End Bits

Regarding E-mail
All questions, comments etc may be directed to me through my e-mail address at
[email protected]. However, if your e-mail does not get answered within the
time frame you thought it would, BE PAITENT. I cannot stress this enough. I am
a relatively busy person, so if I don't answer you it means my uni assignments
took priority or you are a person who asks dumb questions. If you are the kind
of person who sends repetitive e-mail like "When are you going to answer my
question?" or "Did you get my last e-mail?" I will not answer you at all and
I'll block your address. Drastic action, I know, but entirely necessary.
