4.0 GAME DESCRIPTION
   ================
King Of Route 66 is the sequel to 18 Wheeler.  Choosing from one of
5 truckers, your aim is to collect and deliver loads before the time
expires.  There are 3 areas to play across, each split into 3
   deliveries and 2 collection drives.

Each time you complete a delivery, you receive a reward.  However
that reward gets reduced each time your cargo collides with other
vehicles or obstacles.  For the first delivery on each area (and the
last on Area 3), you will carry a set load.  All other loads are
chosen at the various collection points.  During deliveries, you
have rivals to compete against.  Finish ahead of them and you'll
receive a bonus.  If you destroy a rival by ramming them constantly,
you also receive a time extension.

After deliveries, you need to drive the truck cab to a collection
point. Here you select the next load to carry.  There are mainly two
types: EASY or HARD loads.  EASY loads are lightweight with simple
to reach delivery points, but offer low rewards.  In contrast, HARD
loads offer high rewards but are heavy and their destinations are
either further away or harder to reach.  There is also a NORMAL load
at the Asphalt Cowboy Delivery Centre on Area 1.

After choosing, you need to 'hitch up' to the cargo by reversing
your cab into the trailer.  If connection is done correctly, you'll
be rewarded. However reverse too far back and you'll damage the
   cargo, reducing its value.

To assist you in completing a stage, you can activate Nitros via the
CB-Radio.  This gives you an incredible speed boost for a short
period.  You can also use the radio to respond to fellow truckers.
Give the correct response and they'll form a convoy, increasing your
top speed and shielding you from rivals.  In addition, there are
also blue emblems to pick up which increase your score.

5.0 DRIVERS
   ========
There are a choice of 5 characters, each with their own driving
style.  Highway Cat is the sole survivor from 18 Wheeler and she's
joined by 4 new drivers.  These new guys are basically replicas of
the drivers from the previous game.

   Texas Hawk
   -----------
   Speed: 3/4      Torque: 3/4      Weight: 3/4

   A John Wayne rip-off!!  Good all-rounder that's suitable for
   beginners.

   Highway Cat
   -----------
   Speed: 4/4      Torque: 3/4      Weight: 2/4

The road queen is back!  Her truck has excellent top speed and good
torque, but its light weight leaves her prone to over-steer.  It's
also easy to crash her truck during a tussle, so careful driving is
   essential.

   Iron Bull
   ---------
   Speed: 2/4      Torque: 3/4      Weight: 4/4

This Native American is the perfect choice for smashing up your
rivals!  A heavyweight truck coupled with a good engine allows him
to recover well from impact.  However his lousy top speed means you
must take full advantage of slipstream, nitros and convoys.

   Soul Man
   --------
   Speed: 4/4      Torque: 2/4      Weight: 3/4

Studio 54's finest drives a truck with an excellent top speed and a
sturdy feel.  Unfortunately a weak engine means it takes a while to
get going.  It also inflicts severe speed loss if he crashes, so
drive carefully and avoid unnecessary collisions!

   Ichiban
   -------
   Speed: 2/4      Torque: 4/4      Weight: 3/4

With the most powerful engine, this Japanese Warrior can reach his
top speed faster than anyone else.  Unfortunately that top speed
isn't very impressive!  As with Iron Bull, try to make good use of
   nitros, slipstream and convoys.

6.0 RIVALS
   ======
Remember Lizardtail from 18 Wheeler?  Well he's back and this time
he's brought a friend!!  Lizardtail and his pal Bigfoot are
collectively known as the Tornado Boys and they're out to stop you
by any means necessary.  In their distinct black trucks, they try to
crash your vehicle by ramming it, slow you down by hogging the road
and even reduce your reward by knocking cars into your trailer!!

Lizardtail's truck has a silver logo and he's your rival on the 1st
delivery run in each area.  Bigfoot's vehicle has a gold logo and is
your rival for the 2nd delivery run in each area.  For the last
delivery run on each area, they're both present.  Finish ahead of
   them and you'll receive a $1000 bonus.

Unlike 18 Wheeler, the rival truckers can now be destroyed!!  By
ramming hard against the back/sides of their truck several times,
they'll be obliterated and you'll receive a 10 second time bonus for
your trouble.  This requires the use of nitros to gain enough speed
to inflict damage.  You also need to be quick as some delivery runs
   are very short.

Luckily, if you don't manage to destroy them first time round, they
carry any damage over with them for the last delivery.  For example
if you nearly destroyed Lizardtail during the first delivery, then
on the last run it will only take a couple more hits to finish him.
If you do destroy your rival on the 1st/2nd delivery runs, they'll
re-appear intact for the final delivery.

7.0 HITCHING UP
   ===========
As mentioned previously, you must connect up to your load by reversing
the truck cab into the trailer.  You have 14 seconds to complete it.
Beside your cab is a measuring ruler and a yellow arrow.  By holding
the gearstick down and with careful use of the pedals, back up your
truck until the red arrow is inside the blue `OK' section.  Once
inside you must come to a ABSOLUTE stop.

If you succeed, you'll get 1 nitro.  If you do it within 4 seconds,
you'll get 2 nitros (tough at times).  Reverse too far back and
you'll receive nothing but damaged cargo (I once knocked $9,500 off
the Jet Engine cargo on a test run).  As you progress, the blue `OK'
section for each load becomes smaller, so a good feel of the brake
   and accelerator is required.

A good technique is to floor the gas until the distance is just
before 8.00m, then release it and tap the brake (once or twice) to
slow down.  You should then be going at the right speed to stop dead
inside the blue `OK' section.  Speed is essential for gaining two
nitros but on later stages, you may wish to play it safe.

NOTE: There's no special reward for placing the arrow so the distance
reads 0.00 (except a round of applause from me)!

8.0 CB-RADIO
   ========
The stand-out feature on King Of Route 66 is the mock CB-Radio.
Responding to your voice, it performs two functions: activating
Nitros and responding to fellow truckers.  To use it, you must press
and hold the black button on top, speak into it, then release the
   button.

8.1 Nitro
    -----
To activate a Nitro, hold the button on the CB, say "NITRO" loudly
and then release.  You'll get a massive speed boost for a few
seconds.  Essential for completing stages quickly, recovering from
crashes and destroying the Tornado Boys.  You can even use them
directly after one other to reach speeds of up to 290 kph!!

If you use them before jumping a ramp, you will get a short replay
    of the jump.

You start each area with a default 3 nitros.  You can pick up
additional nitros while driving (via icons) and for hitching up
successfully.  Apparently you also gain extra nitros by ramming the
back of a Tornado truck, but so far I've been unsuccessful!  If you
finish Area 1/Area 2 with 4+ nitros, you'll start a new area with
    that remaining number.

8.2 Convoy Combo
    ------------
During deliveries, you can be contacted by a fellow trucker.  They
will answer a question and two possible answers appear on-screen.
You need to speak the BLUE answer into the CB radio.  Hold the
button down, speak clearly, then release the button.

If you're successful, the other trucker will form a Convoy Combo
with you.  They'll shield you from the Tornadoes and increase your
top speed.  When you complete the stage, you'll get $2000 for each
convoy formed.  Usually it's just 1 convoy per level but you can get
2 on the last delivery stage of Area 1 (if you choose the HARD
    load).

If you give the wrong (RED) answer, the other trucker will move on.
If your answer isn't recognised first time, you have two more
chances to respond.  If you still fail then the RED answer will be
selected automatically.  Usually the answer is a simple word like
"YES" which is easily recognised.  However two answers in the game
("MONSTER" and "LIKE A MOTHER") are difficult to get accepted.

IMPORTANT: When your top speed increases, the view automatically
switches to Third-Person.  Hit the View Change button JUST after the
other trucker stops talking to return to First-Person (it doesn't
happen with the 2nd convoy).  IN MY OPINION, THIS IS THE MOST
    ANNOYING THING ABOUT ROUTE 66!!

9.0 OTHER CONTROLS
   ==============

   Steering Wheel & Pedals
   -----------------------
   Self-explanatory.

   Gearstick
   ---------
Leave alone to drive forward, pull back to put truck in reverse.

   Horn
   ----
   Use to clear traffic ahead.

   Windscreen wipers
   ------------------
Press once to operate; again to stop.  Wipers will work for a short
time.  Use for removing grime and rain from windows.   Not essential
   and irrelevant in Third-Person view.

10.0 R66 EMBLEMS
    ===========
These blue shields are scattered throughout the game.  There are
over 50 to collect in any one game (unfortunately you can't get
EVERY one) and are essential for high scores.  Your total number of
emblems are multiplied by $100 at the end of EACH delivery!!

11.0 VIEWPOINTS
    ==========
Press the blue button on the dashboard to change view.  The default
view is First-Person (inside the cab looking out).  With this view
you can see what's going on behind your truck via the rear-view
mirror at the top of the screen.  However it does leave you prone to
    blind spots.

The alternative view is Third-Person (behind and slightly above the
truck).  This view enables you to keep an eye on your load and helps
eliminate blind spots.  However it's easier to over-steer when
    driving so take care.

I always use the default view, but I've seen plenty of players do
well using the alternative view.  So decide which is best for you.
Stick to the same view throughout the race as changing views can
    disorientate.

NOTE: There are particular sections where I change to Third-Person
briefly as the route is very narrow with a blind turn.  See the
    walkthrough for more information.

12.0 TIME
    ====
Time is of the essence in King Of Route 66!!  You start each area
with a set amount of time (dependant on the difficulty setting).
When you complete a stage, your remaining seconds are added to
the default time for the next stage.  This process continues until
you finish the last delivery where your remaining time will be
converted into points ($100 per second).  As mentioned previously,
the only way to gain extra time is by destroying your rivals.

13.0 CONTINUING
    ==========
When you run out of time, you'll be given the option to continue.
If you do so, you'll restart the stage with the same time on the
clock, the same load you were carrying before (if delivering) and 3
nitros.  BE WARNED THOUGH, THIS CAN BE A WASTE OF MONEY IF YOU HAD A
BAD TIME LIMIT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!

NOTE: Continuing has no effect on your score.

14.0 GENERAL ADVICE
    ==============
    * Get used to the steering wheel.  If necessary, ask a friend to
manage the CB-Radio and other functions while you learn.

    * USE YOUR NITROS WISELY!!  Reckless use will cost you dearly on
      later stages.

    * When you begin playing, stick to the EASY/NORMAL loads.  Choose
the HARD loads when you can drive competently.  If you're an 18
Wheeler veteran, you may wish to start with HARD loads from the
      offset.

    * Memorise each stage thoroughly.  Remembering short-cuts and nitro
locations are essential for completing the game.

    * Release the accelerator or tap the brake when taking sharp turns.
It slows you down but not as much as crashing into the sides or
      heading off-road!!

    * If you want to use a nitro at the very start, wait until the
`Distance Remaining' counter has appeared on-screen.

    * Sound the horn once to make the traffic in front change lanes.
Avoid sounding it multiple times as this can make some vehicles turn
      back into your path.

    * Take care of your load, keep it away from traffic and obstacles.
Remember you won't lose money if ONLY THE CAB makes contact.

    * Learn to weave past other road vehicles, especially at congestion
      points.

    * Hitch up to loads with extreme care.  If need be, ask a friend to
hold the gearstick in reverse for you.  It's good to try for 2
nitros but on later stages, it's better to have 1 than none at all!

    * When driving, only use reverse IF YOU REALLY NEED TO!  If you
crash, it's usually better to turn the steering wheel fully and then
      nitro once you've recovered.

    * Remember it's not essential to destroy your rivals.  Sometimes you
may end up loosing more time than you would gain as ramming their
      trucks will slow you down!

    * Be EXTREMELY careful on a winding road when a rival is close.
They will try to ram you into the sides!

    * Collect as many R66 emblems as possible for large scores.

    * Don't expect miracles on your first few plays.  Practice make
      perfect!

    * After selecting your character, you have the option to begin on
Area 1 (Easy) or Area 2 (Normal).  I always start from Area 1 as you
need to play every stage for high scores.  Plus you get good value
      for money!

    * Destinations are marked clearly by yellow lines.

15.0 AREA 1: CHICAGO, ILLANOIS  - TULSA, OKLAHOLMA
    =============================================
CINEMA:  Noisy Duck (old man) pulls up outside
eatery......Lizardtail and Bigfoot throw someone out the
door......Lizardtail walks up to old lady behind counter and demands
free food......Old lady says she doesn't want trouble......Noisy
Duck walks in and asks the Tornadoes why they are so
`ornery'......Bigfoot punches him back through the door......Noisy
Duck runs to truck and request help (notice the Playboy poster in
    the cab).

COMMENT: The first two stages are easy to complete.  However the 2nd
and final delivery runs are longer, with a big difference in routes
for EASY, NORMAL and HARD loads.  Ironically, the destination for
the HARD load on the final delivery is easier to reach than that for
the EASY load.  I always try to destroy the rivals at least twice
    (three time bonuses are possible).

15.1 Stage 1: Blue Harbour
     ---------------------
     Load: CONTAINER
     Value: $10,000
     Destination: Blue Harbour

Once you start, slipstream Lizardtail's truck.  If you want, use a
Nitro and smash into the back of him to inflict damage.  Now in the
building directly ahead there is a tunnel (you should see a R66
emblem).  Go up through it, taking care not to crash into the sides.
After dropping out the other side, keep going straight and then for
the corner, release the pedal briefly and steer left (you should
pick up the R66 emblem as you turn).  Watch out for Lizardtail as he
sometimes slows down and blocks your path.  Now go past the ramp and
turn fully right into the Blue Harbour.  You can go up the ramp if
you want, but take care when landing!

15.2 Stage 2: A.C (Asphalt Cowboy) Delivery Centre
     ---------------------------------------------
Drive your truck cab straight up the small hill (knock the trees
down if you want).  Turn right onto the bridge (picking up the R66
emblem as you go).  After jumping the bridge, use a nitro to speed
down the road.  Now directly ahead of you, there is an R66 emblem
revealing a shorter route behind the buildings.  Cut across (keep
away from the steps) and turn right.  Once you've turned, release
the pedal briefly and then turn left so you just miss the corner of
the building and pick the R66 icon to the left.  Now cut diagonally-
left through the obstacles, then get back on the road.   Grab the
Nitro icon and jump the ramp, smashing through the sign into the
     delivery centre.

15.3 Stage 3: St Louis Airport/Funk Bros. Automobile/Cowboy Farm
     -----------------------------------------------------------
     Easy Load: JET ENGINE
     Value: $11,000
     Destination: St Louis Airport

     Normal Load: CAR TRANSPORTER
     Value: $12,000,
     Destination: Funk Bros. Automobile

     Hard Load: ALFALFA CROP
     Value: $13,500
     Destination: Cowboy Farm

The blue `OK' section is fairly wide so it should be easy to get two
     nitros.

     --------------------------------------------------------------------

You start out on a winding section.  Steer through carefully until
you reach the straight (smash through the wooden fence if you want).
Bigfoot should be ahead of you.  Line up behind him and use a nitro.
If you wish, use another nitro to attack him.

On the straight you will contacted by a fellow trucker.  The
question may differ, but the answer is the same - shout "YES" into
the CB-Radio (remember to hit the VIEW button after you speed up if
     you still want First Person).

Up ahead, there's a filling station on the right.  Just past it,
there's a minor road heading right (it links back up to the main
road).  Go along here if you want to pick up a R66 emblem (watch out
     for the traffic though).

At the start of the bridge, pick up the Nitro.  Now if Bigfoot is
ahead, you can use nitros to attack him.  This is the best place to
     destroy him!

Now after the bridge, if you carrying the EASY load, you will need
to take the right path.  Cut across the grass (stay away from the
bank) and onto the road.  Go up the hill and then steer right up the
slope.  Now there is a glass building at the top.  Smash through the
glass, then immediately turn left to go up the ramp (picking up the
R66 emblem as you go) and down into the airport.

If you are carrying the NORMAL or HARD loads, you will need to go
straight after leaving the bridge.  Once in the built-up area, you
will notice a large ramp ahead of you.  Drive up it (use a nitro if
you want), keeping near the middle as you can pick up a Nitro icon
when you drop.  Once you land on the other side, you will see a R66
emblem ahead.  Grab it, then IMMEDIATELY steer right and smash
through the nearest line of houses (they contain R66 emblems).

If you're carrying the NORMAL load, then head right after smashing
the last house.  You will see a drive-in theatre screen ahead.  Go
up the ramp and smash through it, then cut left across the grass to
     the car shop.

If you are carrying the HARD load, after smashing the last house you
will see a round building ahead of you.  Drive to the right of it
(watch out for the wall) to go over the grass and through the bike
shelter onto the dirt road.  Keep going, then smash through the
picket fence to reach the farm.

15.4 Stage 4: Anton Truck Services
     -----------------------------
If you driving from the airport, then follow the arrows right (you
can smash the pillars).  Now straight ahead, you will notice a gap
between the houses.  Drive though it towards the destination.

From the used car shop, simply go back through the (ripped) drive-in
screen.  Your destination is on the right.

Driving from the farm, simply follow the dirt road and then keep
     going straight.

15.5 Stage 5: Sega World/Steak Alligator Restaurant
    ----------------------------------------------
    Easy Load: NEON SEGA SIGN
    Value: $20,000
    Destination: Sega World

    Hard Load: GIANT ALLIGATOR
    Value: $23,000
    Destination: Steak Alligator Restaurant

Again it's fairly easy to get two nitros.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

Start out by going up the ramp through the drive-in theatre.  Now
steer your way along the road.  Once on the straight, if a rival is
ahead, you can attempt to ram him by using nitros.  It will begin to
rain so use the windscreen wipers if you like.  If you are pulling
the HARD load, then you will contacted by a fellow trucker.  The
correct answer, depending on the question, will be "18" or "YES".

Further up the straight, a trucker will contact you (second one for
the HARD load).  Answer "YES" for a convoy.

Now after you turn right, you'll notice a Nitro icon ahead of you.
Drive straight across the lake to pick it up (careful with the
steering) and then steer left along the grass towards the built-up
area.  There is a sharp right at the start so release the
    accelerator if necessary.

If you are carrying the EASY load, you'll need to make a wide U-turn
ahead.  Follow the road all the way round.  After clearing the
turn, go straight up the glass ramp to pick up a R66 emblem.  Then
smash through the windmill for a second emblem.  Next, head back onto
the road and nitro to the finish (you can brake the metal pillars on
    Sega World's entrance).

For the HARD load, go straight ahead up the glass ramp and smash
through the roof for lots of R66 emblems (don't nitro up or you'll
have BIG slowdown when landing).  After dropping down, nitro to the
    finish.

16.0 AREA 2: AMARILLO, TEXAS - HOLBROK, ARIZONA
    ==========================================
CINEMA: Noisy Duck drives up to a hotel......inside Lizardtail
pushes a customer......Noisy Duck walks in and is shocked to see the
Tornadoes again......Bigfoot punches him back through the
door......Noisy Duck runs to his truck and requests help over his
    CB-Radio.

COMMENT: A harder stage with difficult turns and narrow roads (The
HARD load route on the final stage has a very nasty winding road).
Time is also very precious here.  If you want to destroy a rival, I
suggest you try and damage them on the 1st/2nd deliveries and then
finish them off on the final delivery.

16.1 Stage 1: 66Steak Restaurant
     ---------------------------
     Load: CONTAINER
     Value: œ12,000
     Destination: 66Steak Restaurant

Start by using a nitro along the straight.  If you want, try hitting
Lizardtail once or twice.  Now after turning the corner, there's an
opening between the trees up ahead.  Cut through it into the built-up
area.  There are now 2 choices.

You can turn left and go onto the bridge.  On the left side, there
are some safety barriers.  Smash through this section of the bridge
wall to drop down (careful with the steering).  Now turn right
     towards the restaurant.

Alternatively keep going straight (watch out for Lizardtail as he
may collide with you) and then turn left by releasing the gas
briefly to slide.  Drive under the bridge (you can destroy the
pillars) and then turn right towards the restaurant.

16.2 Stage 2: Texas Delivery Centre
     ------------------------------
Don't go straight (ignore the arrow), instead take the first left
road.  There are 2 options here.  On the right side near the
middle, there is a flat area.  Turn right here and go through the
wooden doors of the house for a hidden Nitro icon.  Once outside,
IMMEDIATELY turn left and follow the road.  Alternatively you can
just drive along the road, pick up the R66 emblem and turn right.

After you get on the main road, use a nitro for some extra speed
     towards your destination.

16.3 Stage 3: Santa Fe Delivery Centre/Old Station
     ---------------------------------------------
     Easy Load: GASOLINE
     Value: $19,000
     Destination: Sante Fe Delivery Centre

     Hard Load: ROLLING STOCK
     Value: $22,000
     Destination: Old Station

A bit more caution is required here to hitch up without damage.

     -----------------------------------------------------------------

Starting out, you can either follow the road or go up the slope on
the right.  If you drive up the slope and collect the icons, keep
going straight after you drop down.  Once you break through the
wall, turn right and use a nitro.

If you follow the road, another trucker will contact you.  There are
two possible answers to her question; either "YES" or "MONSTER".  If
it is "YES", then you'll most likely get the convoy.  If you need to
say "MONSTER", you may fail as the voice recognition seems to think
the word is "CAT".  Try pronouncing "MONSTER" "MONSTEEERRRRR" so it
doesn't think `T' was the last sound you made.

You can use a nitro to attack Bigfoot along the main road.  Up
ahead, the route changes depending on your cargo.

If you are pulling the EASY load, you need to go up the slope.  Tap
the brake when you reach the left turn to cut your speed.  Be
extremely careful if Bigfoot is behind you as he'll try to knock you
into the wall.  Once you clear the turn, head cross-country onto the
first road heading right.  Next turn left and cut across to the
delivery centre (watch out for the fence near the left, you can't
     break through it)

For the HARD cargo, you need to stay on the main road.  Be careful
when taking the left turn as Bigfoot may ram you from behind.  After
the turn, there's a Nitro icon up ahead.  Be careful after picking
it up as your rival could attack.  If you want, you can try to pick
up the R66 emblem on the right of the road.   Cut the corner when
heading into the station to save time.

16.4 Stage 4: Rock Cliff Valley
     --------------------------
If you are driving from the Santa Fe Delivery Centre, then just
follow the arrows onto the main road.   From the Old Station, use a
     nitro to climb the hill.

Now to the right, there is a stony ramp.  Follow it and pick the
Route 66 emblem.  Try staying centred to grab the Nitro icon when
you drop.  At the bottom, you can nitro to the finish if you want
(you can smash through everything here).  If you ignore the ramp and
follow the road, you'll get the same icons, but the route is longer.

16.5 Stage 5: Wasteland Town/Unauthorised Area
     -----------------------------------------
     Easy Load: FOSSIL
     Value: $21,000
     Destination: Wasteland Town

     Hard Load: JET
     Value: $23,500
     Destination: Unauthorised Area

It's now quite hard to go for two nitros.  You might want to play it
     safe if you're running low.

     ---------------------------------------------------------------------

When you start, perform a nitro to speed up (take care when taking
the turns up ahead).  Once past the turns, there are 2 options.
Either head straight over the ramp for a Nitro icon and a R66 emblem
when you drop.  Stay in the centre of ramp to avoid crashing when
landing.  Now turn left back onto the road.

Alternatively you can follow the road round.  If you've already
damaged a rival from the previous stages, you may wish to ram them
(use a nitro if you need to).  While turning, a trucker will contact
you.  Answer "YES" for a convoy.

Now if you are carrying the EASY load, you will need to get in the
left lane, head straight and nitro along the road (there's a Nitro
icon further on up).  If any rival is ahead of you, this is a good
opportunity to attack them.  Once in the built-up area, smash
through the wooden huts into the Wasteland Town.

For those carrying the HARD load, you will need to turn right onto a
winding road.  Release the pedal and brake on this corner to avoid
the left wall.  Follow the road down and round, cutting the apex
of each turn.  You can use a nitro just after the first corner, but
make sure you release the gas before turning left at the end.  Once
you clear the last turn, drive across the rocks into the destination.
If you have enough time, stay on the road and collect the R66 emblem.

    ==========================================================
17.0 AREA 3 (FINAL): FLAGSTAFFE, ARIZONA - SANTA MONICA HARBOUR
    ==========================================================
CINEMA: Noisy Duck pulls into the Dune Cafe......Lizardtail is
coming in fast behind him......Noisy Duck spots him in rear view
mirror and jumps from his truck......Lizardtail smashes into the
back of his truck.......two bikers help Noisy Duck
up......Lizardtail laughs......Bigfoot then pulls in, nearly
knocking one of the bikers over.......biker calls for help on his
    radio.

COMMENT:  A very unforgiving area!  You need to finish ALL the
stages well enough to stand a chance of completing the game.  Stage
2 is a winding cliff road which requires excellent cornering.  But
Stage 3 and 4 are perhaps the most crucial as they are long and use
up a lot of your time.  I never go for the rivals in this area as I
always end loosing more time than I would gain!

17.1 Stage 1: Cretaceous Park
     ------------------------
     Load: DINOSAUR
     Value: œ21,000
     Destination: Cretaceous Park

Nitro along the road and go up over the wooden ramp.  Now keep
heading straight and go through the lit arch, up the big ramp.  BE
VERY CAREFUL IF LIZARDTAIL IS NEAR AS HE MAY COLLIDE WITH YOU AND
FORCE YOU TO TAKE THE LONG WAY ROUND.  After getting the last R66
emblem, turn right off the ramp and then drop down into the
     Cretaceous Park.

A good run should leave you with over 50 seconds on the clock.

17.2 Stage 2: O.G Truck Stop
     -----------------------
This is a tough, winding cliff road.  Steer to the far right of the
road (watch out for the sunlight) and go round the first corner at
full speed, using the whole of the wheel.  For the next turn,
release the gas briefly, steer right hard and step on the gas again
(careful not to scrape the edge).  Near the third corner, head right
and then steer left hard while tapping the gas pedal.  Tap the pedal
for the forth corner too.  On the fifth corner, take special care
when tapping the pedal as the road is very narrow.

Now up ahead there's a path through the rocks.  Follow it up, grab
both R66 icons and drop into your destination (use a nitro for a
     spectacular replay).

17.3 Stage 3: R66 Cement Plant/Hollywood Studios
     -------------------------------------------
     Easy Load: CEMENT
     Value: $23,000
     Destination: R66 Cement Plant

     Hard Load: CONTAINER
     Value $24,000
     Destination: Hollywood Studio

Very easy to damage your load, so proceed with EXTREME care!!

     -----------------------------------------------------------------

There's a short cut near the start.  Look to the far left and by the
buildings, there's a large ramp.  It leads up a hidden dirt hill and
then down a waterfall.  At the top of the hill, there's a blind turn
with a Nitro icon just before the fall.  Once you hit the waterfall,
stay in the middle to grab the R66 emblem.  Try to weave through the
big rocks as they slow you down.  Good steering skills are required
to avoid crashing into the side (avoid using nitros).  Alternatively,
you can just stick to the main road (although it's a longer route).

NOTE: I always change to Third Person view once I hit the dirt hill
because of the blind turn at the top and its very hard to negotiate
the waterfall in First Person mode.

Just before you hit the straight, a fellow trucker will contact you.
The answer to the question is "LIKE A MOTHER".  It's very hard to
get this recognised by the CB-Radio (try speaking slowly and
     loudly).

Try to line up behind Bigfoot for slipstream and use a nitro to
increase your speed.  Now when the road begins to descend slightly,
there's a Nitro icon on your right (on the rough terrain).  Grab it,
then quickly steer back onto the road.

You will now have to negotiate the S-bend.  Sound your horn in an
attempt to clear the traffic.  Now move to the middle of the road
and just before you reach the corner, release the gas, steer your
truck through the first and second turn and then step on the pedal
again.  Going too fast will cause you to crash on the second turn.
Also take special care if Bigfoot is close as you may collide with
     him or vica versa.

Now instead of taking the next S-bend, you can cut across it by
going down the bank.  After clearing the first S-Bend, head straight
and drive through the trees, down the bank.  There's a Nitro icon
to the right, but it's risky to get as you could crash at the bottom.
If you do lose control, release the gas and steer hard to recover!

Once at the bottom, don't turn right.  Instead head straight and
smash through the gates onto the big ramp.  Nitro near the bottom to
ascend quicker (Don't do it near the top or you'll slow down
dramatically after landing).  When you drop and smash the chimney,
this is the Cement Plant for the EASY load.

If you're carrying the HARD load, you'll need to keep going.  After
dropping down, head straight across, smashing through the tee-pees
and palm trees.  If you want, perform a nitro.  Keep going straight
     to reach the Hollywood Studios.

17.4 Stage 4: Dune Cafe
     -------------------
If you're starting from R66 Cement Plant, the small road cutting
through the cement plant is on the right just after you start.
Release the gas briefly and turn into it.  Do the same for the left
turn up ahead.  There are 2 R66 emblems along here.

If you're starting from Hollywood Studios, then nitro at the start
and turn right, smashing through the tee-pees and trees.  Stay close
to the building on the right.  Now when you pass the building, head
diagonally-left and cut through the signs, across the car park and
onto the road.  Now on the right, there's a small road that cuts
through the cement plant.  Release the gas briefly and turn into it.
Do the same for the left turn up ahead.  There are 2 R66 emblems
     along here.

Now at the end of this road, you'll need to head over to the left as
there's a nasty bump sticking out on the right.  Go straight and
instead of turning left, release the pedal and head up the bank.
MAKE SURE YOU REDUCE YOUR SPEED OTHERWISE YOU CAN FLIP THE TRUCK CAB
OVER AND COME TO A DEAD HALT!!!  Try heading slightly right as you
can then avoid the corner on the left.  Once up on the road, hit the
gas and drive through the remaining turns.  Avoid the left-hand lane
     as this contains oncoming cars.

On the straight, drive towards the R66 emblem.  Once you've got it,
quickly turn left and head off-road to grab the Nitro icon.  If you
don't have enough time, go straight for the Nitro icon instead.
Then get back on the road again and head towards the Dune Cafe.  If
you have enough nitros, I suggest you use one up to the finish.

17.5 Stage 5: Santa Monica Harbour
     -----------------------------
     Load: FERRIS WHEEL
     Value: $30,000
     Destination: Santa Monica Harbour

Very, very hard to get two nitros when hitching up.  Might be an
idea to play safe and go for 1 nitro only.  To complete this stage,
you need at least 3 nitros and a time of about 110 seconds on the
     clock.

     -----------------------------------------------------------------

Use a nitro at the start to gain speed.  Get in the left lane and
     let Bigfoot overtake you.

Bigfoot will collide with the cars on the right.  You will now have
to negotiate the S-bend again.  Sound your horn in an attempt to
clear the traffic.  Move to the middle of the road and just before
you reach the corner, release the gas, steer your truck through the
first and second turn and then step back on the pedal.  Again take
special care if Bigfoot is close.

After clearing the first S-Bend, head straight and drive through the
trees, down the bank.  It might be wise to change to Third-Person
view for this as you're blind to the drop and can end up crashing
     into the right side.

Once at the bottom, head straight onto the big ramp.  Nitro near the
bottom to ascend quicker (Don't do it near the top or you'll slow
down dramatically after landing).  When you drop, keep going
straight, smashing through the tee-pees and trees and then turn
right when you see the road in front.

If you have 1 nitro remaining, go up straight up the ramp, smashing
through the barriers and the helicopter at the top.  Keep in a
straight line to avoid crashing when you land.

If you have no nitros, turn right again and cut through the
obstacles to eliminate the next bend (you should just skim the
building corner).  Now straighten up briefly, then cut the apex on
the following turn and grab the Nitro icon ahead.

Now on the left, there's a second big ramp.  If you drive up it,
keep to the middle as there's a Nitro icon at the very end.  Once
you drop off (smashing the stationary truck on the way down),
nitro at the bottom as there will be TREMENDOUS SLOWDOWN!!
Alternatively you can ignore the ramp and follow the road, smashing
     through the glass up ahead.

Head along the road and through the tunnel.  A trucker will contact
you.  Answer "O.K" for a convoy.  Up ahead, grab the oncoming Nitro
icon and head up the ramp on the right to the ship.  Nitro on the
ramp, keeping in a straight line.  You'll be blind for this section
as the breaking funnels will obscure your view.  When you drop down,
keep straight to grab the R66 icon before you drop off the ship.

Alternatively, if you have a large amount of time or just want to
explore, you can ignore the ramp and head along the road.  But
instead of turning right, go round the back of the diner just by the
turn.  There are 2 hidden R66 emblems.

Going into the fairground, you can smash through the carousel.  Use
up any nitros you may have left and grab the last 2 R66 emblems
     before the finish.

18.0 SCORE TALLY
    ===========
Score tallies appear at the end of each delivery.

Reward:          How much your reward is worth
Rival:           Finish ahead of rivals for $1000 bonus
R66 Emblems:     Total number of emblems X $100
    Time*:           Remaining seconds X $100
Convoy Combo:    Number of convoys X $2000

    *Final deliveries only

19.0 HIGH SCORES
    ===========
To get big scores, you must:

     * Play every stage (Area 1-3);
     * Choose the HARD loads every time;
     * Pick up as many R66 emblems as you can;
     * Go for the Convoy Combos;
     * Try and get two nitros when hitching up;
     * Destroy your rivals about 2/3 times in the game;
     * Use short cuts to finish the stage quickly.

My current high score is $334,240 using Texas Hawk (57 emblems and
no continues).  However I missed 1 Convoy Combo and crashed near the
end, so I think it's possible to reach $340k with careful play!

20.0 MISCELLANEOUS
    =============
This section is for items/ramblings I couldn't fit anywhere else.

    * In the 2001 test version of King Of Route 66 (shown at JAMMA
2001), there were also red `time' emblems you could pick up.

    * I once managed to grab 60 R66 emblems in one game!!

    * You can also say words on the CB-Radio that sound like "NITRO".
"HIGH-LO", "SILO" and "RHINO" all work!

    * Don't you hate those WRETCHED LOADING TIMES!?

    * Area 1 takes you across Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma;
Area 2 goes through Texas, New Mexico and Arizona and Area 3 is from
      Arizona to California.

    * Why couldn't they use NAOMI 1 for this game?  What's the point of
using powerful hardware if the game looks like an enhanced PS1 game!

    * Has Lizardtail been at the helium?  He had a much deeper voice in
      18 Wheeler!

    * Can Bigfoot really punch that hard?

21.0 ENDINGS (SPOILER ALERT)
    =======================
Finish the game and after the Name Entry screen, you'll see an
    ending for your character.

TEXAS HAWK - Having a drink on the pier.  Somehow looses balance and
falls over the side, into the sea.  Sees the funny side and laughs
loudly in the sunlight.  Worth mentioning that the two extras are
minor characters from Shenmue 2 (baseball fan & fisherman).

HIGHWAY CAT - Dressed up for a date with Texas Hawk.  Calls out to
him, unaware he fell in water.  Upset as thinks she's been stood up.

IRON BULL - Iron Bull is on the pier fishing.  Bigfoot & Lizardtail
are chasing Noisy Duck.  He runs behind Iron Bull.  They demand he
hands him over; he refuses.  Lizard sends Bigfoot to attack him.
Iron Bull headbuts Bigfoot; he staggers and Noisy Duck kicks him
over the pier edge.  Iron Bull then points to Lizardtail to jump off
pier.  Frightened, Lizardtail jumps.  Iron Bull and Noisy Duck
    celebrate!

SOUL MAN - Dances on pier with 3 of his friends.  Throws afro up in
the air at the end, revealing he is bald!

ICHIBAN - Playing The King Of Route 66 in Penny Arcade.  He waves to
you, then the camera pans out to reveal the other characters playing
the game too.  In my opinion, the best ending!
