Introduction

Hey everybody. I thought I'd write an FAQ for this game since it is
one of my all time favorites and I saw the need for an in-depth
walk through for this game. I've gotten good at this game haveing been
playing it a lot lately and I'll try to give best the strategies and
other crap you would find useful in beating this game in the least
amount of lost tokens. I'm writing this assuming you are playing alone.
If you see anything incorrect, have a suggestion, or just want to give
comments feel free to E~MAIL me at the adress givin at the top of this
FAQ. NOW, on with the FAQing.

This FAQ is not to be used to make profit in any way what-so-ever, and
is not to be put up, or linked to from any website without asking me
through E~MAIL first. This document is copywrite 2000 Russell Ibarra. So
ha! It's mine! And don't mess with my stuff man, 'cause I'm crazy.

2. Moves
+--------+
Ok, here are the basic commands for this game if you don't already know
them. I'm assuming you do if you are here, but I might as well do this
JUST in case.

Button 1- Fire
Button 2- Jump
D/F+Jump- Makes you to slide a certain distance. This' a life saver. You
can be hit out of it though.
U+Jump- Jump to a higher level. Note: You are invincible during this.
D+Jump- Jump down from a higher level to ground. Note: You are
invincible during this.

+-------------+
3. Characters
+-------------+
Here I'll give an explanation of the characters, their plus and minuses,
and other little things.

The pistol guys Steve and Billy- They have the advantage in speed over
Cormano and Bob. They can fire at a very rapid speed especially after
you get the rapid fire power up. When they have 2 guns, they shoot one
straight, and one slant upwards. That is useful in a lot of situations
(Paco Loco comes to mind). It seems they can shoot an almost infinite
amount of times while Bob 'n' Cormano can only get off 2 shots at a
time. Steve's my favorite of these too just 'cause he spins his guns
while he's idle. Of course, Steve and Billy have no advantages over one
another. Same with Bob and Cormano.

The shotgunners Bob and Cormano- They have the power advantage over
Steve and Billy. Although they cannot fire as many shots at a time as
Steve 'n' Billy can, they have more power. When they have to guns they
shoot them both straight ahead, but in a wide bullet spread and it has a
lot of power. A lot of those bullets in the spread are all work one hit.
They can make quick work of a lot of bosses, but some are harder than
with Steve or Billy. Personally, I use Cormano. Mainly because he's the
only one he smashes a bottle on his head after drinking it. Plus it's
cool how he hides his shotguns under his blanky. Plus the shotgunners
RULE. Viva Cormano!

+--------+
4. Items
+--------+
Here I'll explain all the items you'll come across. But wasn't that
obvious enough by the name of the section? Oh well...

Turkey- Gives you $500 bucks when you pick it up. Now that's GOT to be
some really good turkey if it's worth $500...

Pile of Gold- Gives you $2000 bucks when you pick it up. I could never
tell if this was gold dust, or a pile of gold coinds. Go figure.

Silver bage with two guns on it- Gives you... you guessed it... TWO
GUNS! If you pick it up when you already have two guns you will get
$1000 bucks.

Gold badge with one gun on it- Makes your bullets pink and you can hold
the button for rapid fire instead of rapidly tapping it now. Your
bullets are also made bigger. Gives you $1000 bucks if you already have
rapid fire.

Gold heart with "1up" on it- Gives you an extra man. The look of it is
pretty self explanitory though.

One more thing that I might as well mention here. Whenever you kill a
bad guy you get $100 bucks. Every time you kill a bad guy via an
explosion caused by you (Thrown dynamite, shooting explosive barrels)
you get $200. Same thing if you shoot a barrel or rock and make it
squash someone. Also, any death caused by something you didn't create
(E.g. a lantarn fire some bandit started) you will not get any points.
So if you want to edge past that high score on the machine try your best
to hit all those things, and kill any bandits before they hit a fire you
didn't start. But be careful. Also you get $10 for every hit on a boss.
You get an Extra man when you hit &20,000 and another one when you hit
$200,000. I'm not sure if you get one at $400,000 though. I'll have to
figure that out.

+---------------+
5. Walk through
+---------------+
In this section, once again, obviously, I'll be giving a walkthrough for
the stages and the bosses you encounter at the end.

Stage 1
Boss: Simon Greedwell
Reward: $10,000
This is the basic first, easy stage to get you warmed up to the controls
and basic game play. Nothing too hard here except a few tricky things.
Just walk to the right, shooting everyone (Of course) because no one
really poses a threat right now. All slow moving bullets and dynamite
throwing chicks. You should be able to hit everyone before they get a
shot off though. Eventually you will come across some bulls that
stampede at you. They are easy to avoid since you can just jump up to
the roof above. After the bulls pass and you move up to the bridge jump
down to the water right away to avoid the fire being set to the bridge.
After this you will run into more bulls. This time it's a bit more
tricky (The first few times through the level at least). After a bit the
line of bulls will stop and you might be lulled into thinking they're
gone so you'll jump down and get hit by the rest that are coming from
off screen. So remember to run, and jump from the bulls to the next
single bull, and from the single bull to the last line of them. Simple
enough. Now it's time to fight the boss.
-Simon Greedwell- Now this guy's easy. Even his grunts are easy to take
out since their bullets go slow. Just walk from side to side shooting
slant upwards, taking them all out until they stop appearing. Now just
shoot the berrals in front of Simon. Be careful here, because the
barrels can kill you if they land on you when they fall. Now you can
take Greedwell out with reletive ease, and if you can find the magic
spot, he will not be able to hit you at all while you shoot him. It's
hard to explain exactly WHERE the magic spot is, but I'll describe it as
best I can. It's right underneath him, and a little to the right of him.
Get under him so he is shooting straight downwards and move JUST to the
right of the bullets so they don't hit you. If you get there and look
straight up and shoot him he'll keep shooting bullets straight down
right next to you and he can't hit you. Easy as pie from there.

Stage 2
Boss: Hawkeye Hank Hatfield
Reward: $20,000
This stage is a bit harder then the last. In this stage you are riding
your horse. If you stay wary of enemies coming on screen you should be
able to shoot them off their horses before they get a shot off. Remember
that when you press down you go to the side of your horse and that can
save your life if you don't have enough time to jump an on coming bullet
and you need to duck it. When you see the covered wagon appear on screen
immidiately ride up to it and fire slant down at the wheel so you can
take it out right away before they drop any logs in your path. After
this a train will come up. Now it gets a little harder. but it's still
simple once you get it down. The guys on the train don't really pose a
threat, just remember to take everyone out as quickly as possible. When
you get past the 2 green cars, there will be a bandit dressed in blue
who will come on screen. He shoots right away and comes from the bottom
of the screen on the side of his horse. As soon as you are on the second
green car stick to the right side of the screen and shoot the other
bandits, paying attention to the bottom left of the screen looking for
him to come up. As soon as you see him shoot slant back down towards him
riding in his direction so you can take him out with reletive ease. The
reason I make such a big deal of this is because if you are on the left
when he comes on screen there is a good chance he will shoot you and you
will lose your power ups. Plus if you're going for a good game it's just
damn annoying to lose a life on the 2nd stage. If you lost your power
ups, you will get a 2 gun power up from a theif riding his horse so you
wont lose it ALL. After this the train stops and you ride up to the 2nd
boss.
-Hawkeye Hank Hatfield- This guy is pretty easy too. At first he'll have
those blue bandits on either side of him, so take them out first and
keep shooting the bandits that come on screen, shooting at Hatfield when
the chance arises. As soon as they stop coming on screen you can
concentrate on Hatfield. And by himself, he's easy. Just move from side
to side shooting slant up at him sliding under the bullets he shoots at
you. It's annoying when he crawls behind his boxes and jumps around, but
nothing more. Once he starts flashing red fast he'll jump down to your
level, but don't be scared of that. Just get to the farthest left or
right (Whatever is farthes from him) and duck and fire at him. He wont
be able to do anything about it, because one or 2 shots will take him
out now. So you'll hit him before any bullets he shoots hits you.

Stage 3
Boss: Dark Horse
Reward: $30,000
Back to walking 'n' shooting... this stage is a little harder than the
first one. But you won't run into any bulls this time. There are more
blue bandits in this one who'll shoot sooner when they appear and the
bullets are faster. But it's no big deal, just keep alert. You'll come
to a part in the level where some oil will be set on fire and you'll
have to go hand over hand on some rope above the fire. It's easy to get
killed here. Make sure to shoot any bandits following you on the rope.
When you get to the right, shoot the barrel straight ahead as soon as
you see it to get rid of the two bandits below it. After that, move
foward right away and drop down quickly so you can take out the two
other guys who'll try to shoot you. The rest of the level is pretty
standard. On to the 3rd (And in my opinion easiest) boss!
-Dark Horse- Don't be intimidated by the fact that his horse will stop
your bullets from hitting him. Just jump to the upper level and take out
all the bandits who appear in the windows until they stop appearing. Now
it's gonna be painfully easy to take him out. Just crouch and fire at
him until his bullets get close, then move out of their way. Rinse and
repeat. If you are using Bob or Cormano you will be surprised at how
fast you will get his ass perished. But the next guys are a bitch to
fight.

Stage 4
Bosses: The Smith Brothers
Reward: $40,000
No stage here, you just start right off fighting the bosses. This is the
first hard boss in the game. And they will give you a hard time if you
get flustered by their constant attacks. One Smith Bro is on the right
balcony, he throws lanterns at you that will set the ground on fire, and
you if you touch it (Well, duh). The Smith on the left is more of a
threat, in my opinion. He throws bombs at you. I know, I know, the fire
stays there longer, but it moves with the chandelier. But the bomb
explosion stays in the same place, SO you might be standing still on the
chandelier and be moved into the explosion. Plus it has a bigger blast
radius... obviously. So my advice to you is to pick up the chick on the
bottom right if you died at Dark Horse (He's easy, you probably didn't.
But hang your head in shame if you did die! Just kidding, we all have
our days.) so you can get a power up. They wont throw stuff at you since
your blinking after getting the power up. Now take out the two dudes on
the chandelier real quick like and jump up there and pump as much lead
as fast as you can into the bomb hurling Smith on the left. You have to
be quick on your feet to avoid the bombs and fire. Once you take out the
bombing Smith the fire throwing Smith should be easy enough to do away
with. You can practically stand in the same place the whole time and not
be affected by his fire hurling. Move around to keep safe though, unless
you're a ham and you're hot-dogging. After you kill the 2nd Smith he
falls down and blows up. Someone must not have told him to keep dynamite
out of his mouth when he was a kid. Anyway, watch the chicks dance and
then it's time to head on.

Stage 5
Boss: El Greco
Reward: $50,000
Now to start off killing Richard's 3 side kicks, and Greco is you're
first target. This stage is reletively straight forward with a few
twists. LAter in the stage you'll run into a bundle of dynamite that
will explode and uncouple  2 train cars. Hurry and jump over there, but
don't be in too much of a hurry so you don't hit the explosion. Not too
hard. Be wary of lantarns falling from the right side of the screen too,
it might catch ya off guard. Once you make it to the part where you are
traversing the roofs of train cars logs will pass by and can kill you.
The first one should be low to the train, so you have to jump over it.
And the one on the next car is high, so duck under that. Watch out for
bullets while you're ducking. It might be safer to just time a slide
under it. Now this was a short stage.
-El Greco- This guy's pretty easy. He may have the sheild protecting him
but when he jumps he is left vulnerable. Just stay far away from him and
wait for him to jump. When he does, shoot at him slant upwards. When he
lands run past him to the other side out of him and wait for him to jump
again and walk under him firing up at him. Just keep going like this and
you should be okie dokie. Be wary though, his whip has good range and
the whole thing is deadly. But sliding or jumping past him should not
yeild enough time for him to get you with it. Easy enough, pocket your
$50,000 and if your Cormano, take the new red hat. Muuuch better.

Stage 6
Boss: Chief Scalpem
Reward: $60,000
This stage can be pretty hard in a few parts. There are still a couple
things that kill me on this stage. Like those damned indians with their
flamy arrows. In this stage you are fighting a bunch of indians instead
of the normal bandits. Scale the mountain shooting all the baddies. You
will come to a part with a big rock and a couple indians behind it
shooting flame arrows at you. They are hard to get past without being
killed. Something I learned earlier today playing it though is if you
slide to the vary right of the screen before you get to the rock you can
jump up and shoot slant down at them and take them out before they even
get to fire their arrows off. Remember to shoot the guys above you too.
If you don't rush them like that, chances are you will get hit by an
arrow or patch of flame trying to get to them. Even if your good on
you're feet it's hard. Your guns wont hit them if you shoot from afar
either. Do the same thing to the second boulder you come across too. But
this time their little hide out will be on the left side of the screen.
Once you know where they are it'll be easier to do this next time you
play through. After this it's pretty easy. The falling bridge is nothing
to worry about since you'll just land in water. Then you will get to the
lift. Pick up the power ups and the 1up on the way down. You'll need
them to fight the Chief.
-Chief Scalpem- Haha, this is a funny stereotype. "Scalpem", whatta
name. Anyway, this is the toughest boss so far. He's a hard sum'bitch,
but there is an easy enough way to beat him. Time consuming though...
unless, of course, you're Bob or Cormano. Don't get close to him or let
him get close to you because he will slice you with his knife. He'll
repeatedly jump from the ground to a pillar and from a pillar to the
ground. Whenever he jumps he throws 3 knives. What I do here is shoot
slant up at him a few times when he jumps then slide under the knives
and repeat. If you can't slide and get caught in the corner by 3 knives,
stay calm and see where they are going and jump at the right time if
needed or just stand there. He'll probably slaughter you the first few
times. Fighting him takes getting used to. Bob or Cormano can make this
battle a lot faster if you have good aim and timing.

Stage 7
Boss: Paco Loco
Reward: 70,000
Another horsy stage. This one's harder then the last. What did you
expect!?
This time there are more guys coming on screen to shoot at you, and it
can be nerve rattling to have them all on you like that. Just be quick
with your reflexes and they shouldn't be a problem until you reach a
series of blue bandits. Like the 1st horsy stage there is the hard part
with the blue dude, but they come in a pack of 4 this time. Just stick
to the right like before and shoot slant down backwards at them and
shower them with bullets before they can shoot you. Otherwise you will
DIE! And we don't want that 'cause you'll want your power ups for Paco
Loco. He's not all that hard, but it'll make getting rid of him all the
more easy.
-Paco Loco- He's easier then Scalpem was. Especially if you have Steve
or Billy with the 2 guns power up. Stick to the left side of the screen.
There are 2 guys here that will give you a problem. One bandit will
appear in the trees and try to throw a bomb at you. Shoot him as fast as
you can so he can't throw it. Concentrate on Paco while keeping an eye
on the trees for the second guy now, and take him out once you see him.
Now it should be easy. If you have the 2 guns with Steve or Billy you
will only have to stand there and shoot, jumping and ducking when any
bullets come near you. With Bob or Cormano it's a LITTLE more
complicated, but not really since the shot gun will take him out faster
of course. Just stand at the left like I said before and jump up and
shoot at him, being wary that you don't jump up and fall down on any of
his bullets. Simple enough. On to the final stage!

Stage 8
Boss: Sir Richard Rose himself
Reward $100,000 (Yeah baby!)
Ok everyone, last stage. Richard seems to have his own personal army
inside this place, there a lot of enemies in this stage. Most of them
are wearing purple or blue, so their bullets go fast. At first you'll be
in the water, walking along, shooting people. You will spot a mini blue
barrel with a bomb on it under a fort. Shoot that and watch all the
bodies fly! Hehe, 'tis fun. There is one more after that one. Now you'll
have to go hand over hand on some rope above fire. Be as quick as you
can across it so you don't get hit. Pick up the 2 guns power up in the
middle if you can. You will come to a bigger fort area now with no
water. Be careful, past the boxes is a guy using a gattling gun. Quickly
jump up to the higher level and take him out before he can turn it
around and fire at you. It's hard to dodge the bullets 'cause they are
fast. Once you take him out fire the gattling gun at the fort wall in
front of you. Occasionally guys will appear above you and try to shoot
you. It's better to jump away from the gun and shoot them 'cause turning
the gattling gun takes to long and you're libel to get hit. After you
destroy the wall you will get to a water wheel thingy (Hell, I dunno
what it's called) which you'll ride up to the 2nd part of the stage.
Shoot the guys as you make your way up the hill and make sure to get the
guys in the windows below so they don't surprise you. Once you get to a
big hill, 2 boulders will come rolling down. Go up just enough that the
first one appears then run back down and time a jump over it. Do the
same with the 2nd boulder. Up ahead is another gattling gun. Be QUICK
running on screen and shooting the gunner because you don't wanna deal
with all those bullets. Now shoot any guys the drop from the right and
jump to the gattling gun. Fire slant up forward at it and jump off to
take out anymore bandits that appear on the right and jump back to the
gun to resume firing. Repeat until the thing blows up. Run up the hill
taking out the last of the bad guys (There is a lot). Gotta be careful,
don't get over confident. This last part is pretty easy though. Now, on
to the last boss.
-Sir Richard Rose- This is it, time to fight the last, and toughest boss
in the game. He's tough, but if you use the right pattern, he wont take
TOO many tokens away from you. At first it's really hard, because he has
all those damn blue bandits firing at you. It looks like a war zone on
screen. The slide will come in REAL handy here. Try to take out some
blue guys to buy yourself some time to shoot at Richard's little
balcony. And yes, there is a magic spot just like there was for
Greedwell had all those levels ago. It's harder to maintain the spot
this time though, thanks to all the reinforcements he has. They don't
stop reappearing so don't concentrate all your fire power on them. Just
take them out when a large group forms and return to the magic spot
under Richard and fire away. By the way, you get to the spot the same
way you did with Simon Greedwell. Once you know right where the spot is
ou can just move right to it. After you get the balcony to fall it's all
up to your fancy foot work. There wont be as many bandits and they will
stop coming a bit after you knock the balcony away. Once you kill him,
he'll get up and laugh and show you he had a bullet proof vest on.
Bastard! As if killing him once wasn't hard enough! Oh well, no bandits
this time. Some tips I can give you for fighting him are to move between
the top and bottem level frequently. What I do is stay on the left side
and fire at him until he does his little front flip to slide move .I
fire a couple rounds of then jump to the upper level. He should run back
to the other side and fire up at you. Shoot at him from the balcony and
when the bullets he fires get close hop down to the lower level again
and shoot at him until he jumps at you. Jump up again after you fire a
couple rounds and he'll run back over to the corner. Keep it up til he
dies, of course. One more thing to notem when he is sliding he can kill
you. That's what I do though. If you have any other better strategies
stick to those. Oh well, I hope I was of service. If you have any
questions, don't hesitate to E~MAIL me and ask. Adress is at the top in
case you missed it.

Hmm, not really a lot of thanking to be done in this.

I guess I think the pizza place near my house (Shakey's) for keeping
this wonderful game there for all these years.

And of course, God.

That's about it though. Hope I was of help.
