I. Introduction
______________________________________________________________________________
This FAQ is meant to be a resource for the arcade game, Melty Blood: Act
Cadenza. This game came about as an evolution from the original doujinshi
(Japanese for "amateur" or "fan-made") game, Shingetsutan Tsukihime by
Type-Moon. Over the course of time, Tsukihime gained so much popularity it
garnered a sequel game, Kagetsu Touya, and another doujinshi circle made a
fighting game from that, known as Melty Blood. Melty Blood received a sequel
in Melty Blood Re-ACT, which I also wrote a FAQ for. By this time, Watanabe
Seisakusho (now known as French Bread) had gained quite a bit of praise for
their game and managed to negotiate an arcade conversion developed by Ecole.

For the engine section, I will be using the following notation:
7 8 9 C
B
4 5 6 A
1 2 3 D
Picture the joystick as corresponding to the keys on your numeral keypad. 5
would indicate neutral, 4 would be blocking or walking away, and 6 would be
walking towards. A, B, C, and D are weak attack, middle attack, heavy attack,
and shield, respectively.
__________
The Screen
__________
At any given time, you will see these things on your play screen:
Timer
Shown at the top center, this is set to 99 seconds. You are given a
certain amount of time in a round to defeat your enemy. When the time
goes to 0, the round is over, and whoever has more life wins. Ties award
a round point to both characters.
Win Count
This is a little icon that appears beneath your Life Gauge, indicating
how many rounds you've won. Typically, a match is decided by best out of
three rounds, so whoever gets two rounds first is the victor.
Life Gauge
Shown at the top of the screen, this is your energy bar. The yellow
segment shows how much life you have remaining. When this is depleted,
you lose a round.
Magic Circuit
This is located at the bottom of your side on the screen, conveniently
indicated with "Magic Circuit" in English above it. Your Magic Circuit
increases as you perform attacks, and is required to do certain EX Edges,
Arc Drives, and other maneuvers.
Vital Source
This is the crimson portion of your lifebar that trails after the yellow.
Your Vital Source is what you can regenerate when you enter Heat or Blood
Heat mode.
Combo Meter
The combo meter appears when you perform two or more sequential hits in
succession, indicating the total number of hits in your combo and the
damage dealt in points. Each character has 10,000 points in their life
bar.
