======1. Beginners Guide=======
===============================

--A.---What IS Initial D?
----------------------------
Initial D originated from a Japanese Manga and then formed into an
Anime Series. In Japan, a for of street racing known as "Drifting" was
very popular there, and that being the reason of the popular game, Arcade
Stage! As there is no need for me to go into detail on the Storyline of
Initial D, so I will keep it short. Initial D introduces a new style of
racing known as Drifting. Drifting can be described as a very intense,
high-speed slide, that is CONTROLLED by the driver. This would allow the
driver to be able to take a corner faster than normal. While this may
sound some-what easy to you, it is NOT, and I advise NOBODY to try this
at home...

Initial D: Arcade Stage introduces the same technique, but simplified, so
we can do it  :)  It uses the same Courses that are introduced in the
Anime, as well in real life. Below I will describe in-depth, just exactly,
how to get a card, what car to pick, and everything else to get you on your
way to being an Initial D Driver!

--B.---How to buy and Initial D Card
---------------------------------------
Buying an Initial D card is very easy. Prices for the card can vary, it
really depends on your Arcades price. Simply sit down on one of the
machines, and place in the amount of coins it takes for ONE-Play. It
will then ask you if you would like to "Accept Challenges". I will go
into more detail on what this means in the "Battle Mode" section, so
for now, select "Refuse Challenges". Now it will ask you if you
have an Initial D Card, simply hit the "Start" Button to say No. It
will then prompt you asking if you would like to buy a card. Most
Arcades will have the machine set to have you put in the same amount you
did before, in order to buy a card, but it varies. The average is $1 per
play, which means you would put in ANOTHER $1 to get the card.
You will then see: "Card Purchased" light on the screen in big
Green Letters! You now own an Official Initial D Version 2
License Card!!

--C.---Car List and Options
------------------------------
Now that you have your card (It will stay in the machine until your done
playing) you must now pick a car. I have written a detailed Car list
towards the bottom of this FAQ, feel free to look at it before getting
your card, so you can be prepared of which car you will buy. First
you have a selection of Car Companies, after you select one company
(Example: Toyota), you will be shown an array of cars to pick. Use
the steering-wheel to select between the cars (Note: You can hit the
brake to go back to the car companies list), and you can also change
the cars color by moving the shifter up\down.

Once you have your car, you are prompted to select a "Course Tune"
for your car. This is what confuses a lot of people... The Course Tune
is a selection  of parts you want added to your car as you gather
points throughout the game. If you move over each Parts List, you
will see your car up-top change looks. Since you are just starting,
I suggest a car that you think looks best. I may or may not add a
Parts List to this or not, but if I do, you can use that to help
you decide.

Once you picked your Course Tune, your asked to pick Automatic or Manual
Transmission. AT means, the computer will gear up and down for you as
you race (Note: You CAN gear down even if you have AT, but you can't gear
up). And Manual Transmission allows you to take control over your car,
by forcing you to gear up AND down. It's your decision but if you feel
your not comfortable gearing yourself, go with AT. And lastly, you are
now asked to enter a racer name. This will be printed on your iD Card,
and it will also be what is shown if you get a record time on the
machine you race on.

You are now ready to race!

--D.---Status Menu
---------------------
After your done getting your new car ready, you will be shown a "Status
Screen" This screen shows your iD Cards Statistics, like your Driver
Name, Car Type, How many points you've earned, your cars color, and
how many plays you have Inspection.

You have nothing else to do at this screen since you JUST bought
your iD Card, but next time you enter your card in the machine,
you will be able to access more options that I will describe below.
Otherwise hit the Gas Pedal and go on to the Game Mode Menu.

If you've used your iD Card at least once, you'll notice you can flip
through more sections of your Stats screen. By hitting the "View
Change" button, you can move to the next screen which shows your
cars Current Parts, and what parts it will get next. It also shows
what current Parts Course you are currently using. If you hit the
button again, you will see a list of "Time Attack Records" that you
have completed with your car. If you race in "Time Attack" mode, and
complete an area,  and beat your old record, it will appear there
under your cars record time. Note: If you race a better time on a
course against a computer\human opponent, it will NOT record onto
your records. Hit the "View Change" button again and you will see your
cars "Battle Stats". This shows how many times you raced another
Human Racer, how many times you've won, your win percentage, your
Battle Level, and it shows any current winning streak if you have
one. The next Stat Menu looks JUST like your TA Records section,
except with a bunch of gibberish. These are passwords for posting
your time Online, and to see how it matches up with world records.
More detail on this in the Internet World Records Section!

And finally, the last Stat Menu is your options menu. You can change
a few things that can effect your Game Play. One thing you can
do is edit how your screen displays things. I would suggest leaving
it alone for now. Another selection is to have no map, or a Paper
Cup. The paper cup is a joke off of the iD Anime, because Takumi's
Father (Bunta) would have Takumi drive with a paper cup full of water.
And he expected him not to spill any! If you select this, it replaces
your map, and you now have a cup of water to make sure not to spill ;)
You also have another important Option: Steering Wheel Stiffness.
You can choose how Hard/Light you want the steering wheel to be.
This is really all personal preference, and depends if you like
having Resistance against the steering wheel when you drive. The
HIGHER the number, the stiffer the wheel gets. The LOWER, the less
resistance against the wheel there is. And lastly, you can choose
to have "Force Quit" on or off. If you turn it on, then at ANY time
during a race (Except a Battle), you can hold down "Start" and "View
Change" to QUIT your race, and exit. This is helpful if you're running
a Time Attack, and REALLY mess up, and you don't feel like racing
the rest. For beginners, leave it off   :P

--E.--Game Modes
-------------------
After you go past the Stats Menu, you're at the decision of what Game
Mode to play. You can either battle it out with Computer Opponents
in Legend of the Streets. Or Test your skills (Or Improve them) by
racing against the clock in Time Attack mode. Or race Nose-To-Nose
against Bunta Fujiwara, the baddest Mofo in Initial D  :) More
detail on these modes are described further in the FAQ.

===================================
===2. Legend of the Streets Mode===
===================================

--A.--How it works
---------------------
Legend of the Streets (LotS) allows you to race characters that appear
in the Anime itself. You can race up to 4 Racers on any of the 6
Courses. If you beat them all, you can unlock 2 more characters. I
will be posting their English names for the sake of simplicity...
Here they are in order:

--B.--Courses\Opponents
-------------------------
Myogi:
-Iggy (LEVIN SR [AE85])
-Tak (LEVIN SR [AE85])
-Shingo (CIVIC SiR II [EG6])
-Zack (SKYLINE GT-R V?spec II [BNR32])

Usui:
-Two Guys From Tokyo (SILVIA spec-R [S15])
-Nobu (ALTEZZA RS-200 [SXE10])
-Maya and Simone (SILEIGHTY [RPS13])
-Sid (Cappuccino [EA11R])

Akagi:
-Kylie (RX-7 Type R [FD3S])
-Danny (SILVIA Q's [S14])
-K.T. (RX-7 Type R [FD3S])
-R.T. (RX-7 ?III [FC3S])

Akina:
-Kenji (180SX TYPE X [RPS13])
-Cole (SILVIA K's [S13])
-Kai (LEVIN GT-APEX [AE86])
-Tak (TRUENO GT-APEX [AE86])
-Bunta (IMPREZA WRX type R STi Version V [GC8V])

Happogohara:
-Toru (ROADSTER SSpecial [NA6C])
-Dice (CIVIC TYPE R [EK9])
-Smiley (INTEGRA TYPE R [DC2])
-Touch (CIVIC TYPE R [EK9])

Irohazaka:
-Hawk (LANCER EVOLUTION IV RS [CN9A])
-Boss (LANCER EVOLUTION III GSR [CE9A])
-Caine (MR2 G-Limited [SW20])
-K.T. (RX-7 Type R [FD3S])
-Tak (TRUENO GT-APEX [AE86])

You Unlock Tak on Irohazaka by defeating all the opponents from all the
previous courses. After you beat Tak on Irohazaka (For the first time)
Bunta will approach you, and offer you a FREE race (No charge to you :P)
on Akina. If you haven't learned a lot of good skills by now, Bunta might
smoke you   :)   Even if you lose, the computer considers LotS to  have
been beaten! Now when you go to the LotS Mode, all the X's that were
there, are now  gone, and One Blue Star will appear above the Opponents
heads. And now you can freely race Tak and Bunta without having to
beat everyone over again.

If you are really hell-bent on getting points, a good way to do it is
to race an opponent TWO times. After beating them the first time
through, the second time will occur in the  rain! If you win, you
will get MORE points, and that opponent will then have a complete
"X" over his face. If you race him a 3rd time, it will be in the
rain again. No extras for winning against that racer again.

--C.--Racer Level System
---------------------------
The Racer Level System is a way to keep track of how well your doing with
your car, and your driving. You can gain Racer Levels (Stars) by doing
many things. The first way to get a good amount of stars is to beat LotS.
If its your first time on Lots with that car then you will receive a
"Racer Level Up!!" notice when you beat all the opponents on a Course.
You will also get a Star printed onto your iD Card! You can get 6 Stars
total for beating LotS your first time through (You don't have to beat
Bunta), and you can gain 2 more stars by beating LotS 2 MORE times
all the way through.

You can also get racer levels through The Bunta Challenge and
Battling other Players. I will explain those stars in those sections
specifically. The maximum number of Racer Level Stars is 30.
If you reach 30 Stars, you truly are an iD Master!

===============================
=====3. Time Attack Mode=======
===============================

--A.--What is it for?
------------------------
Time Attack is a good way to practice a course your not familiar with.
It allows you to race through the course, and through the checkpoints,
without another car to bug you  ^_^ Your first time through a TA, you
will get a "New Personal Best" no matter what. But if you race that
exact course again on Time Attack Mode, you can get MORE points by
beating your previous time! Your times are recorded, and can be viewed
in your "Stats Menu" before you start your game. You can race for
different times with a total of 26 Different courses to set times on.
This is gotten with 6 courses, with 2 ways each, with 2 conditions.
And including Four Courses Dry and Wet.

If you manage to run a great time, and you make the Top 10 on your
arcades machine, your Racer Name and your Time will appear on the
Top 10 List! If you get 1st place, your car will also appear in
the background when people view the records on the machine!

Using Time Attack Mode can greatly help decrease your time, and then
allow you to cream other human opponents in a 1 on 1 race! Practice
makes perfect in this game.

--B.--Four Courses
---------------------
When you select a course for a Time Attack, you will notice at the
end of the selections one called "Four Courses Runaround". You will
also notice that this will cost you a WHOPPING 60,000 points to play.
If you have this amount to spend, then you have a choice of Dry or
Wet. The Four Courses is exactly what it sounds like, it allows you
to race the last 4 Courses (Hard 1,2 and Expert 1,2), all in ONE
BIG Time Record. So you get to race 4 courses for only $1 (Or
whatever your machine costs)!! The Courses you run are as follows:

-Akagi Downhill Dry/Wet Night
-Akina Downhill Dry/Wet Night
-Happogohara Inbound Dry/Wet (Always Night heh)
-Irohazaka Downhill Dry/Wet

This TA records like a normal Time Attack, and can really test to
see if you have TRUE Skills,  by seeing if you have mastered ALL
the difficult courses!

--C.--What's it all mean?
---------------------------
When you first race a Time Attack (TA), you will notice a bunch of
different times and numbers all over your screen... They are all
They're to help you see what parts of the course you may, or may not,
need help on. From the Top Right Down, these numbers are:

-The Course Record for all Cars
-The Course Record for YOUR Car Model
-Your current record for this Course (Shows "-" if no record)

-How many Seconds off of the Record time you are
-How many seconds your off of YOUR record (Shows "-" if no record)

For those bottom 2, they help you see where on the course you are
having problems. When one of those numbers turns RED, that means
you area AHEAD of that time by that amount of time. If it appears
in WHITE, that means you are behind that time by that amount of time.
And for a rarity, if it appears in GREEN, that means so far you are
even with that record time. Those numbers update after you clear a
checkpoint, so it can really help to see if you had trouble with
a section of a course.

===============================
====4. The Bunta Challenge=====
===============================

--A.--What is it?
--------------------
In this mode, you get the honor of racing Fujiwara Bunta, the Legend
of Initial D! Bunta is the father of Fujiwara Takumi, and is
considered the fastest driver in iD.. You must have at least 1,000
points before you can race Bunta, because if you lose against him,
you will lose points  ;)  You can only race him on the more Difficult
4 Courses, and you can race him as much as you want. He will gradually
get harder as you race him, and will ultimately give you the challenge
of your life!!

--B.--What are all those stars?
----------------------------------
These stars you see, are at first, empty. There are 30 total for EACH
of the four courses. When you race Bunta the first 10x on each course,
he uses the same car Tak uses, the AE86 Trueno GT-Apex. Every time you
beat him, it will fill in a star on the chart. Once you pass 10 Stars,
he will tell you that he has gotten a New Engine in the Trueno, and
will race you now with that! He will still increase in speed the more
you beat him now. Once you reach 20 Stars, Bunta goes ALL OUT and gets
the famed WRX GC8V! You are truly a good racer if you can get Bunta
to show you his WRX!!

If you manage to reach 5 Bunta Stars on EACH course, you will start
getting RACER LEVEL STARS for beating him more! You can manage a
total of 10 Stars off of Bunta, which can really get your iD Card
looking good   ;)

So far, it is known that Happogohara Bunta is the easiest to beat
30x with a DC2, and then its Akagi Bunta with the FD Spirit R,
then Iro Bunta with the DC2. So far, nobody in the entire world
has yet to beat Bunta 30x on Akina. Seeing as the fastest car on
Akina is the Cappuccino, his WRX just overpowers it too much, and
knocks its speed down  :(

If you want to truly test your skill on a certain course, take
on Bunta, in: The Bunta Challenge!

===============================
=======5. Battle Mode==========
===============================

--A.--How it works
---------------------
Battle Mode is something that will occur if you get challenged by another
opponent racing next to you. If you have "Accept Challenges" ON, you are
free game for anyone who sits down. You can avoid this by choosing "Refuse
Challengers" before putting in your iD Card. Or you can also switch if your
accepting in MID-GAME, by hitting the start button.

If you sit down next to someone Accepting Challengers, you will be prompted
with a screen showing his Racer Name, Car, Points, Battle Level, and any
Streak he may have. This replaces the "Accept/Refuse" screen if he is
accepting battles. From here you can hit the view change button to view
his TA Times (Is he has any) and then you can choose to race.

If you decline, he will race on as normal, and will proceed to enter your
iD Card in.

If you accept, his game will stop, and he is notified a message saying
"Challenge Received!". He then waits for you to put in your card, and
select a Course for you two to race on. He can view your stats while
You're selecting a course. When the course is selected, it is shown to
both racers, and the loading screen appears.

Now there is an option for the racers to choose before the race loads.
If BOTH players HOLD down the BRAKE during the load, it will disable
the built-in "Boost" that is default in races. This makes the race a
"Legit Race" in a way. So if someone extremely skilled raced a new guy,
he would CREAM him with Boost OFF. If one of the players does NOT hold
the brake, Boost will be left on, allowing the racer behind to gain extra
speed to help keep up.

Good Sportsmanship Tips:
-Do NOT tell your opponent to hold the brake. If he doesn't know what that
means, then I would have to guess that you couldn't have THAT hard of a time
beating someone new.
-Even if an opponent if Accepting Challenges, it IS nice to ask him if he
wants to race, before you decide to select it. Who knows, maybe he is
running an awesome Time and wants to run it!
-If you have a car that overpowers on a specific course (Example: DC2 on
Irohazaka) try your hardest not to pick it, especially if the other
player has a car that's bad on that course (FD).
-Don't complain or yell at your opponent if he blocks you. It is a strategy,
and if he is ahead of you, then he CAN block  :)
-After the race, its always nice to offer a hand shake, whether you lost or
won.

--B.--Battle Level System
----------------------------
Your Battle Level (Different from your Racer Level) can be raised by racing
and BEATING human opponents in a Battle. If you beat a higher Leveled
opponent, then the chances of your car going up a level is greater! Battle
Level will not show up on your iD Card, but shows up on your Stats Menu,
and shows up when racing other human racers. Also, it does NOT make your
car go any faster or add anything to it. It is just there to show how good
a person is compared to their amount of Battles.

You can also achieve Racer Level Stars by reaching certain Battle Levels.
You will receive one Racer Level when you reach each of the following
Battle Levels:

--Battle Level 2
--Battle Level 4
--Battle Level 6
--Battle Level 8
--Battle Level 10
--Battle Level 12
--Battle Level 15
--Battle Level 18
--Battle Level 21
--Battle Level 24
--Battle Level 27
--Battle Level 30

After Battle Level 30, you can no longer get any more Racer Level Stars.
This adds up to another 12 Stars possible to get onto your iD Card, and
these are also the hardest to obtain!

--C.--Battle Aura System
----------------------------
Aura is a feint glowing color that appears around your car before a Battle
Race. A lot of experienced players usually have an Aura. This word was
derived from the Anime, because it was believed that strong drivers in
the Anime had a feint Aura that surrounded their car when they drove!

There are many different colors of Aura you can achieve, and you can
achieve your first Aura, blue, by reaching Battle Level 11. Here is
a complete list of all the Battle Levels and all the different colors
that come with them:

Level 11-20.. Blue aura.. Aura will grow up till 20!
Level 21-22 Green aura
Level 23-24 Violet aura
Level 25-26 Orange aura
Level 27 Red aura
Level 28 Yellow aura
Level 29 Purple aura
Level 30 Cyan aura
Level 31+ White aura (Rainbow Aura will occur after 10 Consecutive Wins)

===8. Internet World Records===
===============================
These are the top records for each Dry and Wet Course, both ways. This
is NOT car specific... This is the TOP WORLD RECORD out of every single
cars record on that course. If you are within even a few seconds of
these times, consider yourself a VERY good driver!!

(Note: These times could be broken at ANY time... They could be broken
as I speak hehe... But these are my currently recorded World Records
from www.Segarosso.com/INITIALD/ Rankings)

Format:   Racer Name, Record Time, Car Model, Transmission

(Note: If the name appears as "?" that means it is a foreign symbol,
that GameFAQs will not allow me to keep in. Sorry.)

=====10. Car RPM Shift Points=====
==================================
For those of you who aren't quite sure exactly WHEN to shift gears in
your car, here is a nifty guide that will help you get a good rounded
figure of when to shift.

*If there are no exact gear shifts try these and see how it goes
150-155km/h(Myogi -> Akina) 143-147km/h(happo), 130-135(iro) or try
to find another car with the same RPM range that has the 5th gear
shifts listed.. They shift similar

<Thanks very much to the iD Forums again for the Shift Points!>
