2. Reasons for the FAQ

* Another quick update to the FAQ. Extra codes,
craziness with the warrior and the dwarf, and more
information on the instant kill. The next update will
happen sometime next month and that will probably be
the final one.

* The final version is 2.52. Some real craziness was
happening with the Warrior’s and Dwarf’s magic stats.
Check the character section.

3. The Characters

There are four classes in this game. Each class
consists of two characters. Each character has an
alter-ego. Most alter-egos are better characters than
their original counterparts. The only ones who are not
are the Ogre and the Hyena, which are the same as
their originals. Comparisons are also made with each
character in each class. In other words, this guide
will tell you my character of choice.

I have rated all the attacks in this game. These are
my recommendations. Feel free to agree or disagree but
include your thoughts as to why. Send your comments to
my e-mail address.

I may have changed the ratings for certain attacks. I
have also added strategies for single and multi-player
games.

I have grouped the classes together. For instance, the
warrior and the dwarf both have high strength, so they
are grouped together in the strength class. Then there
is a final rating on which character is the better one
of the two.

* STRENGTH CLASS *

Warrior – Alter-ego: Minotaur

He returns for another go at it with his swinging axe.
His speed is better in this one. Believe it or not, he
also has better strength than the first one, although
his magic is even WORSE than it was in Gauntlet
Legends.

* I don’t know what to think of his magic anymore. On
version 2.52, it’s 100. However, when you reach the
end of the level, you’ll notice that his magic is 0 or
5. It returns to normal after level 10. Very confusing
stuff. Special thanks to the Dungeon Master.

Starting Stats (Warrior/Minotaur)

Strength – 600/650
Speed    – 350/400
Armor    - 300/350
Magic    - 100/150

Maximum Stats

Strength – 999/999
Speed    - 750/850
Armor    - 700/800
Magic    - 500/600

Special thanks to Magma for telling me that alter-egos
have different title names. Check out his unicorn FAQ
at www.gamefaqs.com

Alter-ego’s have different title names only at level
10, and all of them do not have necessarily different
title names either. And for some reason, the ogre has
completely different titles than the dwarf. This will
be updated in the next version. Except for the warrior
and the dwarf. They seem to have different title names
at virtually every level.

Special thanks to Dungeon Master and Jeffrey Roy for
the titles names for the warrior.

Famous Quote: FOOD! MINE!

Hand to Hand attack – Axe swing
Rating: *****
This is an attack that attacks all enemies in front of
you at close range.

Missile attack – Axe throw
Rating: ***
He throws an axe. The recovery is not as good as I
thought it was so the rating is slightly lower than
when I first had it.

Level 2 Turbo Attack – Fire Arc
Rating: ***
He destroys enemies in a 360 degree radius. The range
of this attack isn’t actually that bad. It’s still
small, but it does reach a pretty good distance.

Level 3 Turbo Attack – Plasma Trail
Rating: *****
Shoots a fast bolt of energy in one direction. It
comes out fast and has a wide range. Always try to
save up for this attack.

Combo Attack – Pinball Legend
Rating: ****
I originally thought that this attack could be
controlled, but this is not the case. There is no
controlled movement on this attack. Sometimes you end
up going towards the enemies, other times you move
away from them. Not a bad attack, but use the Plasma
Trail instead.

Single Player analysis
Rating: ***
I have played him more recently and he can be a good
character up front. Now that hand to hand combat has
improved greatly, this makes him the best hand to hand
player in the game bar none.

Allen Kim has some great advice when using characters
like the Warrior or other characters with good hand to
hand combat. Because of their weak magic, consider
using a magic shield instead of just throwing a
potion. The general rule is this: a character with
weak magic is usually a character that is really
effective at fighting hand to hand combat.

Two Player analysis
Rating: *****
The Warrior should always be a character that gets in
front. Let him pick up lightning shields, firewall
shields, and invulnerabilities. Keep him away from
three way shots, potions, and IT. He can be an
incredible ally in a multi-player game, especially
with (take a wild guess on what I’m going to say) the
wizard.

Four Player analysis
Rating: ****
You will fight a LOT of enemies when there are four
players on screen. It will help that the warrior takes
the front, but you’ll probably want another character
that can help at hand to hand combat as well (Knight,
Valkryie, or even another Warrior.) It will also help
if you don’t have four weak magic users. One wizard
should be enough. If that’s the case, don’t hoard
potions. The Warrior’s focus should be on hand to hand
situations and should not pick up potions.

With that being said, make sure you play with people
that know what they are doing. Remember, just because
a person is at level 50 or some high level,
unfortunately, and I don’t want to say this, but it
does not automatically qualify them as good.
Especially if they are grabbing everything in sight.
The key to playing any multi-player game is to work as
a team and not as “every person for themselves.” If
you run into players that play for themselves, then
you might want to wait until they are gone.

Final analysis

His strength is absolutely ridiculous. You should
fight monsters in hand to hand all the time. Not
because his missile attack stinks, but because it’s a
great attack. Don’t pick up any potions with him if
you’re playing a multi-player game. His magic is
simply awful. His speed and strength (if you can
believe it) increased, but his magic is even worse.
Much better this time around.

Dwarf – Alter-ego: Ogre

His magic is pathetic, but his strength is disgusting.

Special thanks to the Dungeon Master for telling me
that the Ogre has the same stats as the Dwarf. *SIGH*

Starting Stats (Dwarf/Ogre)

Strength – 600/600
Speed    - 300/300
Armor    - 350/350
Magic    - 100/100

Maximum stats

Strength – 999/999
Speed    - 700/700
Armor    - 750/750
Magic    - 500/500

* Same deal as the Warrior. More confusing stuff with
his magic. His magic situation is just as confusing as
the Warrior. Special thanks to the Dungeon Master.

title names.

Famous Quote: *BURP*

Hand to hand attack – Hammer swing
Rating: **
How did his hand to hand rating go from a 5 to a 2?
Well, it was obvious that I did not spend much time
using this character. His range is ridiculously small.
His high strength does help defeat enemies faster, but
you will not cover much range at all which hurts him
significantly.

Missile Attack – Hammer throw
Rating: ****
A strong throw and covers some good distance too.

Level 2 Turbo Attack – Thunder Clap
Rating: **
Does a small attack in front of the enemy.

Level 3 Turbo Attack – Fire Fissure
Rating: ***
It was definitely obvious that I had not played the
Dwarf that much. He can’t redirect his turbo attack
just like the sorceress. It’s still a fast attack, but
the early positioning could still drive you crazy.

Combo Attack – Super Charge
Rating: *****
Probably the best combo attack in the game. He grabs a
character and basically turns him into a moving
fire-wall shield at 100 mph. Right now, his combo
attack is really the only one worth using.

Single Player analysis
Rating: *
This character is easily the hardest character to play
with in a single player game. The slower speed, the
low magic, makes it very hard to play efficiently in a
one player game. Not to mention the weak range from
his hand to hand. I recommend playing someone else.

Two player analysis
Rating: ***
This character is good to use in a multi-player game,
but should only be used in a situation where you have
a magic user or somebody with decent magic. However,
he does have a good combo attack so consider using it.

Four player analysis
Rating: ***
A good character to use up front. Under no
circumstances should he be used in the back.

Final Analysis

I can’t believe that the Ogre’s starting stats are the
same as the Dwarf’s starting stats. This is very
frustrating. Even at level 99, his magic is 500. This
is ridiculously low. He’s a very hard character to use
effectively, and can easily frustrate newcomers. This
character should be used by advanced players only.

Comparison

The warrior is the faster of the two characters and
has a better hand to hand attack. The dwarf will have
a hard time getting out of desperate situations
because of the low speed and low magic and low range
from his hand to hand. The Warrior is a much better
character.

Winner: Warrior

* ARMOR CLASS *

Valkyrie – Alter-ego: Falconess

Originally, I thought this character was weakened
tremendously. However, with the maximum stat rule
stuck with everyone, she may be one of the best
characters in the game because of her balance.

Starting Stats (Valkyrie/Falconess)

Strength – 300/350
Speed    - 300/350
Armor    - 450/500
Magic    - 300/350

Famous Quote: Mmmmmmmmmm

Hand to hand attack: Sword swing
Rating: ***
Doesn’t cover as much range as the Warrior does, but
she has a high armor which allows her to get away with
more hand to hand attacks.

Missile attack: Sword throw
Rating: **
There is still an obnoxious delay with the sword
throw. It’s definitely noticeable and her slower speed
doesn’t help the situation.

Level 2 Turbo Attack – Multi-Blade arc
Rating: **
Destroys enemies in a 360 degree radius. Same deal as
the Warrior. On one hand, not necessarily a bad move
if you are in a desperate situation, but you also have
to remember that you could still get a level 3.

Level 3 Turbo Attack – Sky Lance
Rating: *****
Fires a fast bolt of energy in one direction. A strong
move that is highly recommended.

Combo Attack - Doppleganger
Rating: *
She gets on the back of a character and lightning
comes from the group. Doesn’t look like this will be
an attack that anyone will want to use.

Single Player analysis
Rating: ***
She’s a good character because of the high balance,
and the high armor. Keep her doing hand to hand
attacks, but remember that her range is limited. It’s
easy to have trouble on the bosses though because of
her slower shots. However, her class (valkyrie and the
knight) is the best when playing alone.

Two Player analysis
Rating: ****
The valkryie should take the front while the other
character takes the back. Hopefully, your partner is
not using a warrior. The warrior (or dwarf for that
matter) makes an awful team. For one thing, the
valkryie’s shot power is not very good because of her
shot speed. Another thing, while her magic is
respectable, it still probably won’t be enough to help
in severe desperate situations. Hopefully, your
partner will be somebody that has respectable magic.

Four Player analysis
Rating: ****
A valkryie should take the front while other
characters should back her up. Her armor is the best
in the game along with the knight, so the other three
characters should back her up.

Final analysis

My original impression was that she was not as good as
she used to be. Well, that isn’t true. For one thing,
she has the best balance among the characters in the
game as well as the highest possible armor. You should
fight hand to hand with her instead of missile attacks
because of the delay that she has. Use her level 3 as
soon as possible. Use the falconess form whenever you
get the chance. It’s as close to maximum stats as you
can get.

Knight – Alter-ego: Unicorn

Similar to the Valkyrie, but has more strength and
less magic.

Starting Stats (Knight/Unicorn)

Special thanks to the 316 machine for telling me that
I called the alter-ego of the Knight the Valkyrie.

Strength – 350/400
Speed    - 300/350
Armor    - 450/500
Magic    - 250/300

Strength – 750/850

Famous Quote: Sweet Nutrients.

Hand to hand: Morning Star
Rating: ****
Attacks with a morning star. Covers good range.

Missile Attacks: Morning Star
Rating: ***
Decent attack. I’d prefer fighting hand to hand with
the Knight, but these are fine at higher levels.

Level 2 Turbo Attack – Ball and Chain
Rating: ***
Not a bad level 2 attack. He swings his morning star
around in a 360 circle covering a pretty good range.
You should still always use the level 3 though.

Level 3 Turbo Attack – Wheel of Death.
Rating: ****
A huge wheel comes in and runs over enemies. Destroys
enemies in a 360 degree radius and then the wheel runs
over anything in its path.

Combo Attack – Dive Bomber
Rating: ***
He picks up a character and swings him around in a
circle. It has good range which makes it one of the
better combo attacks in the game.

Single Player analysis
Rating: ****
A good character to use by yourself. He has a good
combination of strength and armor which makes him a
very good close combat user. His magic is not that
good which will make certain desperate situations a
little bit tougher than usual.

Two player analysis
Rating: *****
A fantastic character to use in a two player
situation. His strength and armor are a terrific
balance. You should have somebody with higher magic
than he does though, because once again, a character
without magic will make this journey very tough.

Four player analysis
Rating: ****
Great up front character. Not a very good in the back
character. He should be one that fights hand to hand
as much as possible.

Final Analysis

This character could easily be one of the best
characters in the game. His high strength at the
beginning as well as the ridiculously high armor will
help him out tremendously. The Knight could easily be
the best character in the game.

Comparison

The Knight is my preferred choice in a two player game
because of his hand to hand range, and a Knight and a
Wizard can make a DEVASTATING combination. I also
prefer the Knight’s shot power more than the
Valkryie’s which makes him the better choice among
bosses.

Winner: Knight

* MAGIC CLASS *

Wizard – Alter-ego: Jackal

My personal favorite. His stats were actually improved
in this version, except for the magic, which stays at
600. His speed did drop though.

Starting Stats (Wizard/Jackal)

Strength – 250/300
Speed    - 350/400
Armor    - 150/200
Magic    - 600/650

Famous Quote: You are greedy.

Hand to Hand attack: Punch
Rating: *
He’s not supposed to be good at hand to hand combat. I
mean the man’s strength is at 250 at the start of the
game. Save it for the:

Missile attack: Staff shot
Rating: *****
Devastating. Fires a shot that kills small enemies
almost right away. Always fight with missiles with the
Wizard.

Level 2 Turbo Attack – Rock Shower
Rating: ****
Rocks fall from the sky around the wizard. This is one
of the better Turbo 2 attacks. Its 360 degree radius
is very large and the fact that it destroys generators
helps also.

Level 3 Turbo Attack – Demon Skull.
Rating: ****
A big skull comes into the area destroying all enemies
in the 360 degree radius. It then moves into one
direction after standing by the wizard for about two
seconds. This can leave him open to attacks by
archers.

Combo Attack – Spin Kick
Rating: *
Grabs a character and lightning shoots out of him in a
360 degree radius. The range is very small though. So
far from what I’ve seen, combo attacks are not that
great. They are certainly not to get excited about
when you have a level three attack at your disposal.

Single Player analysis
Rating: ****
He’s a good character to use in a one player game
because of the high magic. He can get himself out of
any desperation situation. However, he can also get
screwed very quickly if he gets surrounded and is out
of magic power. Remember, his armor is the worst in
the game (150 and 650 at max) so you’ve got to be
careful about getting caught in tough situations.

Two Player analysis
Rating: *****
He is an awesome player in two player mode. The
character he should be partnered with should be a
warrior or a valkyrie, or a knight. That way you can
have one of those players take the front while the
other Wizard takes the back. His shot power will help
keep the valkyrie (or whoever from getting
surrounded). He should be the character that also
picks up as many potions as he can. Two wizards at a
time doesn’t really work, but a wizard and a valkyrie
can be a devastating combination.

Four Player analysis
Rating: *****
Just like before. Have all the characters that are
better at attacking up close while the wizard takes
the back. As always, in a four player game, there are
more items than usual. This allows for several potions
to be available at a time. So basically, you have
three up front fighters and a wizard that can get 9
potions at a time. That isn’t a far-fetch possibility.

Final analysis

He’s always been my favorite character without
question. His missile shots are among the best without
fail. His speed took a slight downfall from the last
game, but he can still be one of the fastest
characters. His armor is awful, even at level 99 as a
Jackal. If you are playing a game, let him get the
potions. Period. It’s not pretty when you a level 99
wizard and a level 1 warrior and the warrior has seven
potions while the wizard has one.

Sorceress

More speed than the wizard, but is weaker in the
strength area.

Starting Stats (Sorceress/Medusa)

Strength – 200/250
Speed    - 400/450
Armor    - 150/200
Magic    - 600/650

Famous Quote: How rude

Hand to hand attack: Punch
Rating: *
You really shouldn’t be fighting hand to hand with
her. She looks ridiculous.

Missile: Laser shot
Rating: *****
Much better with the laser shots. Damaging, fast, and
they have good width.

Level 2 Turbo Attack – Acid Rain.
Rating: ***
Destroys enemies in a 360 degree radius. The range for
this isn’t that bad at all.

Level 3 Turbo Attack – Spell Storm
Rating: **
Well, what is obnoxious about this turbo attack is
that once you initiate the turbo attack, you cannot
change direction. You can change direction with the
wizard or the archer, but not with the sorceress. The
360 degree aura damage is still there, but the fact
that you have to place your character in the right
position to get the attack off can be obnoxious. After
she stands for two seconds, the attack moves in a
straight line. It can be a good attack if you get used
to it, but otherwise, stay away.

Combo Attack – Bigfoot.
Rating: *
She grabs a companion and turns them into a huge size
and they stomp on the ground. Only effective at close
range.

Single Player analysis
Rating: **
Yes. Two stars. The reason is because of her level 3
attack. It simply is awful that you have to position
your character first, and then do the attack. It makes
her very frustrating to use. That as well as the low
armor doesn’t help. However, she can still clear out a
room in no time at all.

Two Player analysis
Rating: ****
As long as you don’t have two sorceress on the screen
at once, this is a pretty good combination with any
other class. Keep her with the potions and you should
make a pretty formidable team.

Four Player analysis
Rating: ****
Just like before, you’ve got to have her take the
potions. Don’t let anyone else (especially Warrior’s
and Dwarves) pick them up.

Final Analysis

Let her get the potions. Her high magic allows for her
to instantly clear out a room of enemies. Her level
three attack should not be done against archers at
close range. Be very careful when using it. Use
missile shots and avoid hand to hand attacks. The
level 3 attack weakens her value severely, but her
high magic still makes her a strong character.

Comparison

A wizard to a sorceress eh? There is a BIG difference.
And yes, that difference is in the level 3 attack. The
attacks are similar. The wizard has a 360 degree aura,
and then the skull damages enemies in one path. The
sorceress has the same thing, except she is frozen
during the animation. It simply hurts. Using that
level 3 attack can really drive you crazy when you are
trying to figure out how to clear out enemies in the
game when you are OUT of potions. On one hand, she is
a faster character which makes any character better,
but you have to be prepared to be frustrated using her
level 3.

Winner: Wizard

Note: Speed Class characters do not walk like the rest
of the characters in the game. They skip instead of
walk. (ADD)

Archer – Alter-ego: Tigress

Fast and quick. Her low strength will drive people
crazy, because you’ll be hitting the fight button a
lot. Especially when you start fighting bosses.

Hand to hand attack: Kick and punch
Rating: ***
Not a bad attacker because of her speed. She can deal
off several fast blows quickly, although her low
strength might drive people insane.

Missile attack: Bow and arrow
Rating: **
It’s simply because of her low strength. It’s just not
there. You just need to fire more arrows in order to
get the enemies out of the way.

Level 2 Turbo Attack – Double bow
Rating: ****
It seems like this attack was actually improved. There
always seems to be a truckful of arrows coming out.
However, it only goes in one direction. It can still
destroy generators.

Ronald Munar reminded me of something very important.
The archer’s turbo attacks are affected by power-ups.
Her turbo attacks are still the only attacks in the
game that can be increased by picking up items such as
three way shot and fire amulets. This makes all of her
turbo attacks that much more effective.

Level 3 Turbo Attack – BFG
Rating: ****
Slow execution like the wizard. A huge artillery of
arrows comes out followed by a huge green arrow to
destroy enemies.

Gungnir told me about an instant kill trick that you
can do on bosses with the archer. This will be
re-mentioned when the appropriate bosses arrive. If
you take a super shot and use a level 3 turbo attack
on a boss, you can usually do 80% damage. Yes that
number is correct. 80%. If you have a three way shot,
it is instant death. Absolutely the most disgusting
technique found in this game yet. Who would have ever
thought that the archer would become a boss killer?

Please note that the instant kill trick will work
completely on a one player game. I am not sure about
using it in multi-player games yet.

Combo Attack – Aerial Twist
Rating: **
She gets on the back of a character and fires arrows
from that position.

* Her combo attack is normally VERY bad. However, her
combo attack can be enhanced with power-ups just like
her turbo 3 attack. Combine it with the super shot and
you can have a pretty sick attack. Only use this combo
attack if she has power-ups attached. Other wise, stay
away and use her turbo attacks. Special thanks to the
Dungeon Master.

Single Player analysis
Rating: ***
It’s still a little hard to use her in a single player
mission, but the fact that she can destroy certain
bosses with one hit makes her that much useful.
However, having to press that attack button all the
time when using missiles can be a bit tiring after a
bit.

Two Player analysis
Rating: ***
Remember, she is a character that can’t really be up
front because of her low strength and armor. She can
help as a magic user if the character you’re teamed up
with is a warrior. Let her take the magic and the back
while the warrior takes the enemies at the front.

Four Player analysis
Rating: ****
Yeah, I know. Is there any character that is bad to
use in a four player game? Probably not. She has a
great Turbo 3 attack that can clear out enemies in a
heartbeat.

Final analysis

She’s a hard character to use because her strength is
low in the hand to hand department and the shot
department. She can clear out rooms rather fast with
her high speed, but you’ve got to be on your toes the
entire time. Don’t go to fast or you’re run her right
into an ambush.

Jester – Alter-ego: Hyena

The most popular character as of right now, but that
doesn’t make him the best, unfortunately.

Famous Quote : Down the hatch.

Hand to Hand attack – Punches
Rating: ***
Very fast hand to hand attacks, but it takes a number
of hits to destroy the enemies, which is why the
rating isn’t as high.

Missile attack – Bombs
Rating: ***
Not as weak as the archer, but not that strong
unfortunately. He can throw bombs at a tremendous
rate.

Level 2 Turbo Attack – Sonic Boom
Rating: ***
GUILE!! Uh, maybe not. He creates a wave of energy in
front of him. The range isn’t very good.

Level 3 Turbo Attack – Hammertime.
Rating: *****
A huge hammer gets spun in a 360 degree radius and
then gets launched in one direction. He doesn’t hold
the hammer for long making this a very good attack.

Combo Attack – Cannonball.
Rating: *
The Jester grabs a character and launches bombs in one
direction.

Single player analysis
Rating: ***
A hard character to use because of low strength, but a
good fast character. He is screwed up by the alter-ego
stat glitch (his stats do not increase if you pick a
Hyena).

Two player analysis
Rating: ***
A good character to use if the character you use is
not a high magic user. You should have a character
that takes the front while the Jester works the back.

Four player analysis
Rating: ****
A fast and quick guy can help out with the magic
situation, but should avoid being up front at all
costs. His strength is too weak.

Final Analysis

I was hoping his shots would not be as weak as the
archers, but they are unfortunately. This makes him an
awful fighter at long distance and at short range. He
is a tough character to use alone, but is a good
partner in a two player game when accompanied with a
fighter.

Comparison

I’m going to have to go with the archer now. Combining
power-ups with her turbo attacks make her that much
better. Her turbo attacks are some of the best turbo
attacks in the game and become that much better when
they receive power ups. The Jester is the funniest
character in the game, but the archer is the hands
down easier player to use.

Winner: Archer

I’d like to thank Allen Kim for contributing so much
to this update on the characters.

Remember, these are my opinions. If you disagree with
my picks, or have anything else to add to the
characters, please e-mail me.

A note on alter-egos and other stats.

An alter-ego is much better than a regular character
in this game. An alter-ego is the equivalent of a
level 11 regular character. Plus, their maximum stats
are 100 points higher than the regular character’s
maximum stats. A regular character maxes out at 400
points for each stat. Therefore, he will max out at
level 81. An alter-ego can increase their stats by 450
points. They max out at level 91.

So here’s the problem. This theory works for the
Wizard and the Sorceress. However, this does not work
with the Jester and the Ogre. For some reason, the
Hyena’s starting and maximum stats are the exact same
as the Jester and the Ogre’s stats are the same as the
Dwarf. According to the Dungeon Master, there is a
glitch regarding these two. One character has the
stats fixed even though they are not shown on the
screen (i.e. one characters speed might be 50 points
higher even though the game says 50 points lower) and
another character has the same stats that are shown on
the screen. He got this information from Midway
themselves. We don’t know which character has weaker
stats at this point in time. Stay tuned.

So the question is, do we buy stats or not? I’ll leave
this one to you. For one thing, your strength will be
higher earlier, you’ll be faster, you’ll take less
damage, but on the other hand, you’ll have a LOT of
money after you save up.

Bonuses at levels

After every 10 levels, you will get a title (or just a
ceremony). After level 30, you will get a bird giving
you double firepower. Level 50, you will get a new
weapon and at level 80, you will get a different bird,
(double firepower not triple firepower), and of course
at level 99,

“Red Jackal is now A LEVEL 99 LEGEND!!!”

And then the narrator gives a lovely speech saying
your name will be put in the hall of legends.
(Triumphant music plays in the background.)

IMPORTANT WARNING! If you reach a title level, the
only way you get the ceremony is if you finish the
level. If the game says “Insert coin to continue” then
you won’t get the title level. You will still get the
bonuses however. The reason why I am mentioning this
is if the title level you are shooting for is level
99, and you die, and then you finish the level, you
will NOT get the password needed to go for the drawing
for the arcade game. This isn’t funny when you are
basically told that you have to build up another
character in order to compete.

CLW has reported that if you beat the second Skorne
and get to level 99 in the same level, then there is a
chance that you may not get a password to enter the
contest. I’m assuming that the same thing will happen
if you beat Garm as well.

4. Techniques

The old style techniques are back.

Attack

Hand to Hand: By closing in on enemies, you can attack
with your character in a hand to hand matter. It is
recommended for some while for others, definitely not.
The sorceress is one character that comes to mind that
you should not do this with.

Okay, Allen Kim has reported an absolutely incredible
technique for using hand to hand combat. If you walk
and hold the button down when you are close to
enemies, you’re attacks become that much better. There
is no question about it. Basically what happens is
your character does a moving attack motion and he
keeps doing it at a rapid-fire pace. It is much more
effective than pressing the button.

However, if you are standing still, pressing the
button is much better this time. You’ll be able to do
attacks quickly by just pressing the button quickly as
fast as you can.

So remember, when you are moving, hold the button
down, when you are standing still, press the button
repeatedly. This makes hand to hand combat so much
better it’s not even funny.

Also remember, that you can attack enemies simply by
walking into them without pressing any buttons. This
is useful in case you have any special items (three
way shot, super shot, thunder hammer, etc.) and you
don’t want to waste any. However, you will have to be
patient, because constantly attacking this way is very
hard to do effectively.

Missile attack: If you are farther away from the
enemy, press attack to shoot missiles at the enemy.

In order to make shooting at enemies easier, you
should press the button as fast as you can to get
faster shots. Holding down does not work in this
situation. However, if you have a rapid fire, then
holding down the button does give you the fastest
possible shots you can get.

Magic

A magic attack can once again be used in this game
simply by pressing magic provided the person has a
magic potion in his inventory.

Magic Shield: Press Turbo and Magic at the same time
to create a magic shield around the character.

Allen Kim has recommended that you should use the
shield if your character does not have good magic
power. This is a very good idea as you are still able
to move once you cast the magic shield. You’ll have a
much easier chance destroying generators that
sometimes might be out of reach because of the weak
magic, but with the shield, you’ll be able to move up
and get them out of the way. This is recommended for
characters like the Warrior and the Knight while
simply using the potions is recommended for characters
like the Wizard and the Sorceress.

Throwing potions: Press Attack and Magic to throw the
potion. Depending on how long you hold Attack will
determine how far the potion will go.

Turbo Attacks

When Gauntlet first came out, there was Attack and
Magic and that was it. When Gauntlet Legends came out,
there was Attack, Magic, and Turbo. This changed the
game completely as now it was possible to do different
attacks, different magic spells and so forth. The
Turbo button keeps the same techniques alive, but some
major and important stuff was added in Dark Legacy.

Turbo Attacks

Depending on the meter that is above your stats, you
can perform a level 1 turbo attack, level 2, or a
level 3. If the meter is light green only, level 1.
Light yellow, level 2. If it is flashing, then a level
3 attack. Level 3’s are the best ones by far. Level
2’s are okay, and level 1’s you simply shouldn’t use.

Level 1 Turbo attack

Press Turbo and Attack when your meter is bright
green. There are two types of attacks in this level.
The missile attack and the hand to hand attack. The
missile attack is simply a more powerful version of
the missile. The hand to hand is a more powerful
version of the hand to hand attack. Both are
relatively useless.

Warning: Try to not use this attack at all. Sometimes,
my character likes to freeze after he does the move.
This can result in a lot of damage because most
likely, enemies will still be attacking you at close
range. I’m not sure why this happens and I’m sure this
is a glitch. Just be careful.

Level 2 Turbo attack

Press Turbo and Attack when your meter is bright
yellow. Each character has an exclusive attack for
this level even though most of them usually result in
the same attack. In other words, all level 2 attacks
result in a 360 degree radius around the character and
damages all enemies that are close. In the first game
level 2 attacks could not destroy generators (with the
exception of the archer). This time around they do
destroy them, but the distance is still left to be
desired.

Level 3 Turbo attack

Press Turbo and Attack when your meter is glowing.
Just like the level 2’s each character has an
exclusive level 3 attack to damage enemies. However,
each attack may be different depending on the
character. For example, the Valkyrie’s level 3 attack
shoots a quick blast that damages enemies while the
Wizard creates an aura around him and then fires a
skull in one direction after a two second wait.

Combo Attacks

New to Dark Legacy are combo attacks. If you have two
characters and one of them has a turbo meter, you can
perform a combo attack. Some of these are very
powerful. To perform one, get your turbo meter up to
level 2. Then move to the character and press turbo
and attack at the same time. Please note, that each
character has a combo attack and not a team. For
example, the wizard’s combo attack is the spin kick
while the jester’s combo attack is the cannonball.
Whoever presses turbo and attack will get the combo
attack off.

NTHAIcing said I was too generous on the ratings for
the turbo attacks. Well, I tried giving them a chance,
and he was definitely right. Most of these combo
attacks simply stink. I’ve tried to give them a
chance, but there is simply no way you should justify
using one combo attack when you can use a Level 3
Turbo attack. It just isn’t worth it. The Warrior’s
combo attack unfortunately does not allow control from
the other characters. For instance, the Warrior uses
the attack, the person turned into a pinball does not
get to control what happens. Therefore, he could end
up going in the wrong direction. Just avoid them and
stick with using the level 3’s.

Well here is something of interest though. Combo
attacks can be done at level 2 and not level 3. Every
combo attack in the game can be done at level 2 which
might make them more respectable. I need to work with
these a little bit more to see about this, but it
could be interesting. Stay tuned.

Blocking

Our good friend the narrator gives out some wonderful
advice during the game doesn’t he? “Learn how to
block” is one of the many great quotes in this game.
If you hold the turbo button down, then you will take
no damage. However, you must have turbo meter to
accomplish this. The blocking aspect helps on bosses
(definitely) and against archers that are by
themselves.

David Orozco suggested that more information be
explained on how and when to block. I agree since a
lot of people that play this game don’t realize how
important this can be. For one thing, take a character
like the Wizard or the Sorceress. Their turbo 3
attacks are good, but they take a while to execute.
This allows for archers and such to shoot them until
the attack hits them.

Consider this, if there is only one archer in the
vicinity, you should be able shoot him down. However,
lets say he gets a lucky shot and there is an arrow
coming right toward you. Press turbo and run. You can
block and run at the same time. If an aura glows
around you, then the block was successful. Now try
another shot and see if you can knock him out.

A glitch that occurs in Gauntlet Legends was when an
enemy makes an attack with a hand to hand motion
toward your character, you will get hit. Period. This
was first reported by Red Phoenix in his Gauntlet
Legends Expert FAQ. Now you can do something about it.
You can press turbo to run away and get a successful
block in the process. If the enemy goes for an attack,
press turbo to block it. This is huge as you can
remedy this glitch every time.

This suggestion is important to remember when fighting
golems. If you get knocked down by a golem, then
you’ve got to run until you can get to an area where
you can trap the golem. However, if he swings his
hand, press turbo. You WILL block the attack and
prevent any further damage. Otherwise, the golem may
knock you down. And if you are already down, the golem
may proceed to continue to knock you down.

However, nothing can be more important than blocking
attacks against bosses. For example, remember the
dragon’s hits the ground and creates an attack that is
unavoidable. Well, it still is, but you can block it.
Press turbo at the moment that it is about to hit you,
and you will not take any damage.

You must remember that after all this, you can only
block with turbo in your meter. If you have it up to
level 1, there is a good chance that you will not
block the attack successfully. If your character
flashes white instead of getting the aura, then the
block was unsuccessful. A successful block is almost
always guaranteed at level 2.

One final note, regarding traps. I need to look into
this more carefully, but I can’t tell if you can block
traps or not. For one thing, your character goes into
an “Ow” motion no matter what, but you still get the
aura even when you block successfully. I’ll look more
into this.

5. Items

In this game, there are not many new items except for
the boss items. The shop did not get anything new and
sells everything from the last game at the exact same
price. However, the properties on certain items have
changed.

Major thanks to Red Phoenix. I realized I left off
about 15 items in this list. Sorry about that.

Apparently I didn’t get them all still. Special thanks
to Kevin for telling me some other items that I left
off the list.

Keys: “Use keys to open doors”. And of course chests
and all that other good stuff. Buy it from the shop
for 250 gold. You can have a maximum of 9 keys at a
time. “Your key ring is full.”

Reflect Shot: Your shots bounce off the walls. You can
buy it for 450 gold.

Potions: “Use magic to kill enemies”. And all the
other things you can do with potions that are listed
in the technique section of this FAQ. Buy it at the</pre><pre id="faqspan-2">
shop for 500 gold. You can hold 9 potions at a time.
“Your magic is full”.

I’ve noticed that apparently, the color you play
“yellow, blue, red, or green” determines the potion
you buy. Go figure. So you could end up with nine
green potions or nine red potions. If you play on the
yellow side, you end up with red potions, blue side,
blue potions, red side, yellow potions, and green
side, green potions. I’ll look into this more.

Growth: “Red Jackal, has limited growth”. Basically,
you grow about who knows how much with the growth. Buy
it for 400 gold.

Strength: Increases your strength stat by 5 points.
Buy it for 800 gold.

Speed: Increases your speed stat by 5 points. Buy it
for 800 gold.

Armor: Increases your armor stat by 5 points. Buy it
for 800 gold.

Magic: Increases your magic stat by 5 points. Buy it
for 800 gold.

Reflective Shield: Bounces projectiles off you into
the enemy. Buy it from the shop for 1200 gold.

Phoenix Familiar: A bird comes along and gets you an
extra shot. If you are already at level 30, then you
basically get a stronger bird. Buy it for 1300 gold.

Rapid Fire: Gives you a much quicker firing rate. Buy
it for 1400 gold.

Three way shot: Gives you firing power in three
different directions in front of you. Buy it for 1500
gold.

Every time you press the attack button when holding a
three way shot, you will use the three way shot
instead of using hand to hand combat.

Thunder Hammer: Slam the hammer to the ground and
cause a huge explosion. Basically, a magic spell. Buy
it for 1500 gold.

Every time you press the attack button when holding a
thunder hammer, you will use the hammer instead of
using hand to hand combat.

Lightning shield: Enemies get destroyed when you run
into those enemies with this shield. Buy it for 1600
gold.

Fire wall Shield: Similar to the lightning shield. Buy
it for 1800 gold.

Golden invulnerability: You stop losing health and for
every hit taken, you gain 1 life point back. Buy it at
the shop for 2000 gold.

Items not found in the shop:

Meat: Increases your health by 100 points. Meat can be
found as chicken leg and turkey.

Fruit: Increases your health by 50 points. Represented
by apples, watermelons, and bananas.

Poisoned food: Decreases your health by 50 points.
Represent by a green apple with a skull on it. In
Gauntlet Legends, this stuff was very rare. In this
game, poisoned food is everywhere you walk.

Important note: Michael Bromery told me that in
Gauntlet Legends for the home systems, you can use a
potion to turn poisoned food into fruit. I just rented
the Playstation version a while ago (it was not very
good IMO, get the DC version). Sure enough this was
the case. I tried this out in the arcade version, and
it didn’t work normally. However, it DID work in the
forest. There was one instance where I ran into
poisoned food, and was surrounded, by monsters. I used
magic to clear the area, and the poisoned food turned
into chicken. Yes, it does work, but very rarely, and
in all honestly, this might have even been a glitch
since it has only worked once.

The poisoned food turned into fruit when two players
were playing. It hasn’t worked with in a single player
game yet. So this trick could either be a glitch, or
it could only work in a multi-player game. Stay tuned.

Extra speed: Makes your character run faster. In
Gauntlet Legends, it increased your speed by 300
points. I’m not sure if it does this time around, but
it definitely makes you move faster.

Amulets: Increases the power of your missile attacks.
The types of amulets are acid, fire, lightning, and
light.

Breaths: Gives you an attack that shoots breath in
front of you hitting most enemies in your way. The
types of breath are acid, fire and lightning.

Limited Invisibility: Grab this to make yourself
invisible to all enemies. Which means the enemies go
after your companions and not you.

Super Shot: Gives you a much more powerful shot. It
shoots through enemies and doesn’t stop until it hits
a big wall or something like that.

Every time you press the attack button when holding a
super shot, you will shoot a super shot instead of
engaging in hand to hand combat.

Shrink enemies: Shrinks the enemies to make them
weaker.

Silver invulnerability: Similar to golden
invulnerability, but you cannot gain life back. You
don’t lose any health though.

Limited Levitation: Allows you to completely avoid any
trap in the game.

X-ray Glasses: Allows you to look inside a chest
before you open it. Useful on silver chests where the
content is not known at first.

Five way shot: Like three way shot except your shots
go in five directions instead of three. Very sweet
item.

Every time you press the attack button when holding a
five way shot, you will shoot a five way shot instead
of engaging in hand to hand combat.

Time stop: All enemies become frozen for a period
amount of time. An hourglass appears in the upper left
hand corner of the screen representing how much time
is remaining before the enemies start to move and
prepare to beat the living crap out of you again.

Egg: AUUUUUGGGHHH! HOW COULD I LEAVE OUT POJO?!?! Oh
well. Anyway, if you pick up an egg you’ll turn into
Pojo. Pojo is a chicken from the game Mace. See the
codes section for more on Pojo.

It: Geez. I left this one out also. If you grab this
power up, the enemies will come after you. You can
make one of your companions “It” if you run into them.
“Tag, you’re it.”

Turbo Boost: Grabbing one of these will instantly give
you full turbo power. So use whatever turbo you have
left before picking this item up.

Anti-Death power

A note on deaths. Death drained health in Gauntlet
Legends. He drained up to 100 health before he
disappeared. Well, in this one, he drains experience.
Yes, that’s right, you can lose levels in this game.
Side note: from what it seems, you cannot go below
level 1.

Unfortunately, you can go below level 99. I reported
that you couldn’t, but you can. This does not always
happen, however, since it is possible to gain more
experience once you have reached level 99. If death
does drain you after you have earned much more
experience past what you needed to reach level 99,
then you should have little problem. Death will not
drain enough to take you down a level. However, if you
have just reached level 99, there is still a chance
that you could go down to level 98. Sorry about this.
Major thanks to Cullen Stevenson.

Anti-death power drains experience from death instead
of him draining it from you. This could lead to some
very fast leveling up. Also, when you drain a death,
the anti-death power does not disappear like in the
first game.

If you are at level 99, draining from another death is
useless (unless you are trying to be #1 on the legends
list), but it can keep the deaths away from you. You
should still pick up the item, but don’t necessarily
drain the deaths. Just keep it so the death doesn’t
interfere.

In the first game, death does hide in chests, however,
if you use a magic potion, BEFORE you open the chest,
you can turn death into fruit.

Items found after defeating the First Skorne:

Skorne’s Gauntlets: Shoots extra powerful shots.

Mask of Skorne: Shoots extra powerful breath.

Horns of Skorne: Shoots extra powerful breath.

Every time you press the attack button when holding
one of Skorne’s Items, you will attack with one of
Skorne’s items instead of engaging in hand to hand
combat.

The Mask of Skorne has a longer range, but the Horns
of Skorne has a more powerful blast behind it. Special
thanks to Ryan Zibell.

Items of Legend:

The Legendary Ice Axe

Found in the Mountain Kingdom. Freezes the dragon in
his tracks allowing a ton of free hits.

The Javelin of Blinding

Found in the Sky world. This weapon reduces the Plague
Fiends health by half and blinds him so he doesn’t
know where he is shooting at. However, he regains his
eyesight after he is down to about 1/4 of his life. Be
careful.

The Scimitar of Decapitation

Found in the castle stronghold. When you reach the
Chimera, the sword will be activated and you will
instantly kill one of the heads.

The Toxic Bellows

There is a great story about something that happened
in the forest realm at the boss section in this FAQ.
This is the craziest glitch I have ever seen. What it
really does though is it poisons her and drains some
pretty huge amount of life away.

The Book of Protection

Found in the forsaken Province. It drains him for half
life and freezes him for a bit. Definitely a must
find.

Lamp of Dark Obstruction

Found in the desert. Blinds the Genie and does severe
damage.

The Parchment of Fire

Creates a fire wall around the Yeti in the Ice domain.
Hurts him for a lot of life too.

The Lantern of Revelation

Damages Wraith and reduces the damage of his attacks
severely.

Soul Savior

Found in the desecrated temple. This attack will hurt
Skorne and prevent him from throwing fireballs.

6. Acquiring rune stones

Rune stones are important, because you cannot beat the
game without them. There are thirteen rune stones in
this game (instead of twelve). In each world there is
at least one, maybe two rune stones.

Something needs to be made clear at this point. When
you grab a rune stone, the narrator will announce how
many rune stones have been found. The character that
has the most rune stones individually will be
considered. So if one character has eleven rune stones
and another character has two rune stones, the
narrator will announce that eleven rune stones have
been found.

If you complete a level, you will be told if you have
found all the rune stones or not. If the narrator says
“you have found the one rune stone from this realm,”
then there is only one rune stone in that location.
Notice that the key word in that sentence is the word
“the”. If he says, you have found one rune stone in
this realm,” then there is another rune stone to be
found. If he says “you have found both rune stones in
this realm,” then you’ve gotten both of them. Once you
have the ability to select another level, you can
determine if you’ve found all the rune stones from
that level. If you move to a stage and it says
“COMPLETE” then you have all the rune stones from that
level. If it says “TRAVELED”, then there are still
rune stones that you have not acquired in that world.
If you play a level where you have not found all the
rune stones yet, and approach a level where there is a
rune stone in it, a hot-cold meter will appear in the
upper right corner of your screen.

Above your stat window, you will notice that there are
twelve slots for the first twelve rune stones. The
order that they are presented in is as follows:

Castle (1) (Blue)
Sky (2) (Blue)
Mountain (1) (Red)
Ice (2) (Red)
Desert (1) (Yellow)
Province (2) (Yellow)
Forest (1) (Green)
Dream (2) (Green)

What this means is that if you look at your rune stat
window from left to right, the first slot is for the
rune stone in the castle stronghold. The next two
slots are for the rune stones in the Sky dominion. So
if you want to help somebody find a rune stone, you
know how to help them out. You know which rune stones
are missing even though the stage might say “COMPLETE”
because remember, the person with the most rune stones
takes priority.

Lets say I have six rune stones, and my friend has the
other six rune stones that I am missing (odds are,
this will never happen, but if it does), the game will
say that you have found the twelve original rune
stones and can proceed to the underworld. Usually, you
won’t find this scenario because they will usually
have rune stones from the sky or mountain almost
always. But if this happens, remember it. This makes
more sense for keys. For instance, if you have beaten
four bosses, and your friend has beaten the other
four, then you can go to Skorne. Keep that in mind.

If you do a level in which you have already found a
rune stone, the rune stone will still be in that same
place. You can grab if again, and receive 500 gold in
the process.

When you pick up a rune stone, everyone gets the rune
stone. If one person picks it up, both players pick up
the rune stone. So one person may end up with 500 gold
while the other simply gets credit for the rune.

The thirteenth rune stone in this game is put in the
place that normally contains your boss item. So you
can have a boss item on top of the thirteenth rune
stone. Just looks funny.

When you beat the game, you do not lose the rune
stones. Once you grab one, it’s with you forever.
Thank goodness.

7. Regarding difficulty

We all know the deal with Gauntlet Legends. Everybody
who played version 1.6 knows that after five minutes,
you lost 3 health every two seconds, and then after
nine minutes, two health every second. See Red
Phoenix’s Expert FAQ on Gauntlet Legends for more
details.

Fortunately, that is not the case in Dark Legacy. You
only lose one health per second. Period. However, that
does not mean that the game does not get harder as the
game goes along.

For instance, the longer you stay on the machine, the
more enemies appear. Also, more generators appear, and
the enemies come out of the generators faster.

Let’s take an example: Consider the mountain realm. We
all know that that level can be a rather easy place to
start your game. You proceed through the level like
normal, and then you get to the lost cave, and all of
a sudden, you are surrounded by 120 red demons. That
will most likely happen if you play the game for a
long time and don’t spend any money.

Now let’s take Garm. If you have fought this guy, you
know how cheap this guy is. If you don’t spend
power-ups, odds are, you are going to spend $10 on him
trying to beat him. However, you have just spent $10
trying to beat Garm. So guess what happens to the
difficulty when you pick the mountain after beating
Garm? However, if you do manage to succeed beating
Garm on one credit (the only way you are going to do
that is if you buy power-ups), the game is not going
to be easy one bit. Unlike Gauntlet Legends, the game
does not necessarily get easier if you beat the game.
If you beat Garm on one credit, the game gets harder.

An interesting note though, I beat Skorne 1, and then
died immediately. I had to run and get some change.
The continue clock ran out and then the scroll came up
that says “15 seconds to continue”. I continued from
that point and I entered my initials again. When I did
the underworld, the game was a walk in the park. So
apparently, if you reset the clock and wait for the
scroll to come up, and then continue, the game might
honestly become easier again. Interesting.

8. General Tips

Death or food

There are times when you will come across silver
chests. There are also times when you will have x-ray
glasses and anti-death power at that point (see the
castle stage). So the question is, 100 points of food,
or a level of experience? Personally, I think the food
is more important, but then again, I’m more into
survival then experience. That is just me.

The other thing you can do is if you know a chest has
death in it, you can use a potion to turn the death
into fruit. I guess this is debatable as well. If you
have anti-death, you might consider draining the
death. If you don’t, don’t hesitate to turn the death
into fruit. Please note, if you use potion on a death
in a barrel, it will NOT kill the death. Instead, the
death will still be sleeping in that same place.

On that note, if you open up a chest with a death in
it, the death will remain in a sleeping position until
you run into it. He will not instantly wake up and
chase you like he did in Gauntlet Legends.

Working as a team

If you are playing a multi-player game, you have to
work together. That means the player with the least
amount of food should pick up the health. If you have
a wizard, he should get the potions. If you have a
fighter, he should get the shields. If you have a
person who has better shot power, let him get the
three way shot. If the person is better at up close
fighting, let him pick up the invulnerability.
Communicate with the person, and if that person
doesn’t want to work together, you might want to quit
until he leaves. It is not fun when playing with
somebody who isn’t willing to help.

There are not many tips here in this section right
now. However, I am planning on expanding this section
big time in the next update. Stay tuned. And on that
note, e-mail me if you have any survival tips.

9. The Stages

In this section, levels will be listed followed by the
important item that is found in that following level.

I ranked all of the stages. These are personal
rankings. 1 is the easiest, 8 is the hardest. The
final levels are tougher than the original eight. Feel
free to agree or disagree and let me know why at my
e-mail address.

I have also added parts that can make the realm easy,
and parts that make the realm hard.

I have also rated the bosses on how tough or easy they
can be. This is on a scale of 1 to 11 with 1 being the
easiest and 11 being the hardest.

The Mountain Kingdom (Easy)
Personal ranking: 2

Easy stuff: LOADS of food, boss item not to hard to
find, rune stone is easy to grab, dragon can be beaten
very easily.

Hard stuff: The lost cave and the volcanic cavern have
some ridiculously hard red demons. These guys can
cover the screen with fireballs in no time at all.

The Valley of Fire

This is the exact same level from Gauntlet Legends.
>From what I can tell, there is nothing special in this
level, but watch out for the suicide bomber at the end
of the level. He wasn’t there in the first game and
will easily surprise veterans and new players in this
game.

If your character is slow, then run away from him
until he blows up. If your character is fast, just go
straight for the exit and he will miss you without
question.

Dagger Peak

In the previous game, there was a rune stone by a
death in a barrel. You had to destroy something to
reveal the rune stone. This time around, the object
cannot be destroyed. Instead, you need to proceed
through the locked door and hit the nearby switch.
Return to that previous object, and then you will
find, the legendary ice axe. Leave the level.

The Cliffs of Desolation

Previously, there was an exit about halfway through
the stage. However, that exit is gone and there is
nothing of noteworthy in that area either. In fact,
there are now falling rocks that hurt throughout the
level. Watch out for big holes in the ground because
that’s where they like to fall, but don’t stand to
close to them either because small rocks like to fall
around the area as well. There are no special items
here so leave when you get a chance.

The Lost cave

Proceed as far north as possible. When you reach a
wall on the north side, keep walking in a narrow
corridor until it gets wider. Shoot the walls around
there. “Multiple hits destroy secret walls.” When you
find it, a rune stone and a treasure chest will be
waiting. Leave the level.

The Volcanic Cavern

More good stuff. Watch out for all the red demons
here. They can be very annoying, especially without
any walls nearby to protect you.

You’ll eventually hit a switch that moves a platform
over to you. Destroy the enemies and proceed left (not
onto the platform yet). Hit a secret wall which is
slightly past another treasure chest and hit the
switch it reveals. There is an anti-death there. Grab
it and drain the death that is nearby in the level.

There is a treasure room here. Reach the exit and hit
a nearby switch. Proceed south and left. Look for a
place to stand on that is a different color of the
normal stage. Stand on it and it will turn into a
platform that will take you downward. Go forward, and
you should reach:

“The Gauntlet Treasure Room”

“Grab Gold before time runs out.”

In this game, Copper coins are worth 50 gold, silver
100, and gold 500. That was the way it used to be in
version 1.2 of Gauntlet Legends, but people were
walking out of the treasure rooms with over 5000 gold.
So they reduced that total by a significant amount in
version 1.4. Now you walked out with 1700 instead of
5000. The gold is back to the version 1.2 money
values, except that there are not as many coins in the
treasure rooms either. You have a certain amount of
time, which is represented, by an hourglass. When you
grab all of them, a scroll says “You have found all
the gold”. I don’t think anything special happens
after that though (special items for instance).

If you play a multi-player game, there will be more
gold coins (about twice as much for a two player game)
to grab. Special thanks to: CLW

During the level, you will notice a secret wall with a
chest. That chest contains a super-shot. Leave it
until you finish the treasure room. Pick it up later.
Grab it and use it for the boss. Special thanks to
Clifford Shafran.

The Dragon’s Lair
Personal Difficulty: 1

Anyway, the Dragon is the same old dragon from the
first game with a few other techniques. First, he can
throw two fireballs in a row to the same place rather
fast. Second, he can throw two fireballs in different
places preventing the easy dodge. However, his attack
where he slams the ground can now be blocked. This is
why I think blocking in this case might be better than
using turbo attacks.

Unfortunately, you cannot destroy the rocks with a
level 3 turbo attack. That’s why you have the super
shot. You can destroy the top middle rock and pick up
a three way shot and have a super shot as well. Now
you have a three way shot and a super shot. In a solo
mission, with the wizard, you should beat the dragon
before he throws one fireball. Major thanks to
Clifford Shafran.

The ice axe is a tremendous help and will let you get
in a ton of free hits. It freezes the dragon
completely. Using the above method, you should be able
to drain about 3/4 of his energy before he makes one
step. Basically, he’s a complete piece of cake.

The instant kill technique can be used here with the
archer by using the super shot, the three way shot,
and then combining that with the level 3 turbo attack.
Yes, you will beat the dragon before he thaws with
this technique. However, you will have to wait before
he thaws out in order for him to officially die.
Special thanks to Gungnir again.

Sky Dominion (Easy)
Personal ranking: 1

Easy stuff: Lots of experience. It is possible to
drain 4 deaths in this world alone. More if you have
more players.

Hard stuff: Getting the second rune stone is a pain
because you can’t back track to the first exit and
have to take the longer way to finish the level. Also,
the treasure room here is obnoxious.

Toxic Spire

The Sky Dominion is probably the first level you
should do, if you are just starting to play. The
reason is because there is a lot of experience you can
get in that whole world.

You start on a boat. There is an anti-death in one of
the barrels, and wouldn’t you know it, a death is on
the boat as well. Drain him for some quick experience.
Proceed through the level like normal.

If you are playing a two player game, walk left after
going up the first ramp (you should do this anyway
because there is some meat in the area also.) There is
another chest that contains a death. Drain him for
another level.

There is also another anti-death and another death in
a secret wall around. Find the anti-death after
walking down a ramp. Search the area for the
anti-death and then go behind the ramp you walked down
for the secret wall. As a matter of fact, there is a
silver chest after proceeding up the next ramp. There
are no x-ray glasses that I know of, but I could be
wrong. If you can get a death out of the chest, you
can gain over 14,000 experience in this level alone.

Continue until you reach the exit, but don’t leave
yet. Proceed to the left and keep going until you
reach a switch on the wall. Watch out for falling
green barrels. Hit that switch and a platform will
arrive with another switch. Watch out for the bomber.
Hit that switch and a wall will appear in front of
you. A secret wall will be in front as well. Destroy
the secret wall and you will find something that looks
very strange, but unreachable at the moment. There
should be one more switch that you haven’t hit. Hit
that switch and walk back down. On a new platform
coming up, there should be another switch. Hit that
switch and head black to the previously destroyed
secret wall. Watch out for the spikes.
Congratulations, you now have the javelin of blinding
which will help against the Plague Fiend. Leave the
level.

Cloud docks

Warning. Please be careful here. This level will make
you dizzy. Period. There will also be times when you
are floating through the air on a platform. This can
be frustrating because of the ticking health meter.
Reach the end of the level and pass the exit. Proceed
to the left and unlock the door and press the switch.
Head back, and a platform should rise as well as
another switch. Hit the switch and another platform
should appear as well as a secret wall to the north.
Destroy the secret wall and you will find the rune
stone.

However, in the first game, there was only one special
item in each level. That changes now completely
because the treasure room and a rune stone are
actually in the same level. Continue on past the first
switch you used to pick up the rune stone. Walk onto
the net and proceed onward until you reach an area
with two bridges. Walk on either one and hit a switch
at the very end. Walk on the left one now until you a
huge platform arrives. Keep walking south west until
you reach:

Cloud 9

This is a very strange treasure room. You are on a
cloud that moves. You cannot go off the cloud. You
have to grab the coins as they come to you. (Not as
easy as it sounds.) Once you reach another platform,
walk onto it and you’ll be on that platform doing the
same thing. There’s plenty of time to get all the
coins in this level.

You can backtrack until you reach the first exit
again. Or if you want to, you can proceed through the
level even further until you reach another anti-death.
Once you grab that, you should be able to find ANOTHER
death.

Sky Shipyard

More dizziness. Proceed until you reach the first
exit. Pass the first exit. Head up the platform and
you should see the rune stone on a platform. You won’t
be able to reach it yet. Continue to the left and
enter doors to the south. It’s not that hard to find,
but I can’t remember the exact path. However, the
platform that you took to reach that area won’t let
you back down to the first exit. Therefore, you have
to go the long way around to find the second exit.
Joy.

However, you can reach a super shot at the end of this
level. It’s not easy, but it’s possible to grab a
super shot and do another instant kill on the Plague
fiend here. It’s your choice and remember that the
instant kill trick works only with the archer.

Vat of the Plague Fiend
Personal Ranking: 3

His attacks include swinging his arm and firing two
quick slime balls at you. He can also duck under the
slime and have slime come out from underneath the
vents. You can dodge the arm by hiding behind the
vents or by blocking it. You can dodge the slime vent
attack by moving away from the vents at that time. The
Javelin of Blinding will wipe out half of this guy’s
life bar and will temporarily blind him completely.
His slime balls will be going everywhere, however he
can still hit you with his swinging arm, so be
prepared to block that. He’ll regain his eyesight when
he is down to about a fourth of a life bar (maybe
quicker). One rapid fire should take him out without a
problem (and that might not even be necessary. Not a
hard boss at all.

The rating is of course a 1 if you are using an archer
as the instant kill trick will work on this boss. He
will die instantly if you buy a three way shot and
then proceed with the kill.

The Castle Stronghold (Medium)
Personal ranking: 3

Easy stuff: Easiest of the medium stages. Loads of
money, hard to get surrounded. Possible to drain three
deaths. Another easy boss.

Hard stuff: It’s easy to get surrounded at the
beginning of the armory stage. Other than that, there
isn’t a whole lot to be scared of.

The Castle Courtyard

Find a switch with a death standing on it. Destroy the
archers nearby. You can step on the switch without
waking up the death. This is important because it
allows you to save a potion. Get on the right side of
the death and walk very closely. Special thanks to
Clifford Shafran

Proceed onward with the level and continue up and
right. Enter a door and look for a switch on the wall.
Hit the switch, and then backtrack to the death. A
rune stone should be right there.

When you reach the exit, proceed up the stairs and
head left. Reach the end and you should find an apple
and a door. The door is a secret wall. Destroy is, and
some meat should be there. Now leave the level. You
just gained a quick 150 points of health. Special
thanks to Clifford Shafran.

The Dungeon of Torment

One thing is for certain when you proceed through the
castle levels: They are not nearly the exact same
levels as the first one, but there are still
recognizable parts.

Remember when you hit a switch and the rune stone came
down at that point? There is no rune stone, but there
is an anti-death. Grab it, and a death is not too far
behind. There is also a secret wall in that area that
looks like a cell door. Destroy it to find x-ray
glasses. Drain the first death that you run into, but
watch out for the enemies around the area. Proceed
until you reach a silver chest. You can either wait
for meat to show up with the x-ray glasses, or a death
and drain him. You’ve now gained two levels, or
increased your health by 100 points.

Proceed through the door and hit the switch nearby.
Walk down and hit the secret wall over the new bridge
created by the switch. Destroy the secret wall and
grab THE SCIMITAR OF DECAPITATION!!! What a name.

The Tower Armory

You should still have the anti-death at this point.
However, watch out because you need be careful with
the truckload of enemies at the start of the level.
And for some reason, if you use a magic potion here,
you’ll instantly wake the death up and kill him, even
though if you normally use potions on a sleeping
death, nothing will happen. Who knows. If you can
drain him, cool. But be careful of the enemies.

Proceed throughout the level until you reach where the
rune stone was in the first game (see Red Phoenix’s
Expert FAQ for more information). If you remember what
I am talking about, then continue on throughout the
level. You’ll have an option of going west or east (I
am not talking about the switch where “you need
another player to use the bridge.” Go east. Keep
walking east until you find:

Space Station #5

The good old space station is BACK!! Use the
transporters to move to different places in the
treasure room to get all the coins. Side note, I could
not find the extra speed here in a one player game, so
you’ll want a fast character if you’re going to get
all the money.

Leave the level. There’s nothing else here.

The Castle Treasury

A sugarload of items are in this level. Remember in
the first game where the rune stone was near a death
and you had to destroy a pillar to get it? Well, the
rune stone isn’t there, but a lot of items are in that
general area. Items like gold invulnerability (even in
a 1 player game), there are switches and money and
items galore.

There’s some extra food and some items if you decide
to proceed and finish the level. If you play a three
player game, there is an anti-death somewhere (it’s
either here or in the armory, and you definitely need
three players). You should be able to get three more
deaths in this level with the anti-death. Also, in a
two player game, both players, if they decide to go
through the entire level should be able end up with
three way shot. So both players have three way shot
against the Chimera. Special thanks again to Clifford
Shafran

The Chimera’s Keep
Personal Ranking: 2

The easiest boss in the first game isn’t that much
harder this time around, but can provide a challenge
for players that aren’t on their toes. If you have the
scimitar, one of the heads will be instantly
destroyed. Now you only have two heads to deal with.
However, the chimera is similar to the dragon in one
way. One of his fireballs can fire in two different
spots (he’s trying to predict if you’ll move or not)
making it tougher to dodge. Watch out for his triple
breath attack (if all three heads are still there)
because that move needs to be blocked this time around
in order to avoid taking damage. A reflect shield can
still do a lot of damage to him (one should be enough
with only two heads, but two may be more fun.) Also,
he jumps around now. Don’t worry; he never crosses the
pedestal. Watch out for the breath and this shouldn’t
be a hard fight.

If you use the scimitar at very close range, you will
do severe damage to all three heads, but you will not
kill any of them. This is not recommended. Get one of
the heads out of the way and this fight will be a lot
easier.

The Forest Realm (Medium)
Personal Rating: 5

Easy stuff: Good supply of food, the rune stone is in
the first level, and the treasure room is in the
second, so it’s a good place to get some gold.

Hard stuff: The boss is still obnoxious, the Ancient
tree is not a cakewalk, and the boss item is near the
second exit in the Gnarled Branches.

The Acid Swamp

Pass the first exit and you should see a door and a
switch. Watch out for the golem. There should be an
anti-death around the area too as well as a death
himself. Make sure you drain him. Hit the switch and
proceed through the door. Go as far forward as you can
and there should be a secret wall which contains a
rune stone. Grab it and proceed out of the level.

The Twisted Roots of Evil

Proceed through the level like normal. If you see an
elevator, then you have proceeded too far. Head back
and go down and left. The treasure room is around
there somewhere slightly before that elevator. “You
are now entering the Psychedelic Stun Chamber.”

“Shots now stun other players”

You can make a lot of new friends or enemies depending
on which path you decide to go in this level. Yes,
this level will make you dizzy in a heartbeat, but the
gold is worth it. Grab as much as you can and then
leave the level.

The Ancient Tree

>From what I can tell, this is simply a pretty level
and that’s it. So keep moving and find the exit.

The Gnarled Branches

The Toxic Bellows are in this level. It’s a pretty
linear path. Just pass up the first exit, and it
should eventually be there without a problem.

The Realm of the Queen Spider
Personal Rating: 9

So far, she is turning into a real pain in the ***. It
seems like a lot of people are having trouble fighting
her. She still has the following attacks, she can
throw acid to damage you, a web to slow you down, and
she can charge after you. The charge is what gets
everybody. She can also hit you with her whip.

The Toxic Bellows poison her turning her green and
making her lose a lot of health. It also slows her
down sometimes. She goes into her “OW” motion when she
takes damage.

The 316 machine says you should be able to beat her if
you buy a gold invulnerability, a three way shot, and
a rapid fire. I’m not sure about the rapid fire,
because there is extra speed around. Also, this will
work for a single player game. You’ll spend 3500 gold
using this technique, but you’ll only lose 1800 gold
if you win. Remember, it is more important to save
your real money than spending the gold in Gauntlet:
Dark Legacy.

Glitch: I don’t believe this. A friend of mine used
the Toxic Bellows on the Queen Spider, and his
character locked up. He was stuck in the same
animation frame for the entire boss fight. He couldn’t
attack, throw magic or anything. The only thing he
could do was move. Even after we beat the boss, he
still couldn’t do anything. Basically, he was stuck
for the rest of the game. It didn’t help that his
health was at 2500 either.

The Dungeon Master has reported that it may be true
that if you use a level 3 attack during the boss item
animation, that the game may glitch out then. Whatever
you do, don’t do a thing until the animation is
completely done. Be careful.

Mike Defranco said he was fighting the Yeti when it
happened to him. When his character died, he continued
and the animation finally completed. In other words,
the wall of fire finally arrived after he continued.

As stated earlier, this glitch should not happen in
version 2.41. If it does, e-mail me ASAP.

Forsaken Province (Medium)
Personal Rating: 6

Easy stuff: Drain four or five deaths even in a single
player game. Rune stones are found in the early
levels. That way, if you miss one, you don’t have to
do the ENTIRE stage over again.

Hard stuff: Boss is hard, treasure room is near the
second exit of the third stage, easy to get
surrounded.

Special thanks to Doug Elder for the names of the
stages

Poisoned Fields

Go past the first exit and continue on until you reach
a stone tablet with a marking on it. You can’t miss
it. There should be a treasure chest to the left that
is on top of a switch. Hit the switch and the marking
will rise up revealing a rune stone. You can back
track to the first exit to save some health.

Ghost Town

There is a switch there will reveal a chest that
contains an anti-death in it. If you want, you can
drain a death that is east and then north (after the
camera change) around that area. Of course watch out
for the enemies. Drain him, and then proceed back and
head toward the beginning of the level. You can drain
another two deaths on your way back for three levels.
However, this takes time, and you may lose a good
amount of health in the process.

When you return to the point where you found the
anti-death, you are close to a rune stone. You should
see a gallows. Hit the switch on the gallows, and a
new switch will drop that is north. Hit the new
switch, and the rune stone will rise on the gallows.
Grab it, and leave the level.

Haunted Cemetery

There is another anti-death here. It is right by the
first exit, and wouldn’t you know it, there is a death
hiding in one of the tombs as well. The anti-death is
found by hitting nearby switches (they may be covered
by secret walls) and the death is in one of the tombs.
Drain him. There is another death around here, but I
can’t remember where he is at the moment.

Proceed past the first exit. You’ll be able to see the
treasure room if you keep going north, but you won’t
be able to reach it yet. Go west and then north.
Basically, you’re making a loop around that area. Look
for a bridge and cross it. Make sure you have a key.
Enter the door and proceed through the door. You are
now entering:

Crops

Great name for a treasure room. In this level, what
may look like a wall at the north side is actually
not. I might have missed some coins up here in that
north area. Check it out.

Mausoleum

Thanks to Jerry Jones for being the first person to
tell me where the boss item was in this level.

Anyway, make your way to the second exit. There is a
switch that can be destroyed right behind the exit.
Pass up the exit and hit the switch. The boss item
will rise. Grab it and you now have the book of
protection which definitely helps when fighting Lich.

Lich’s Crypt
Personal Rating: 6

This boss can be very frustrating. However, the book
of protection will freeze him and do some pretty hefty
damage to him (about half). His attacks include a
fireball which he can throw at one or two locations in
order to try to prevent you from dodging. He also has
a jump attack where he jumps at you. Try to run from
it using turbo so you can still block the hit. He can
shoot something that can slow you down (kind of like
the web blast from the Spider Queen). He can strike
his axe down on the ground causing some damage if
you’re too close. Finally, he can create generators
which send out slugs. Just what we need.

Clifford Shafran sent in a pretty sweet way on
avoiding the Lich’s jumping attack. If you run toward
him (with the turbo button), you should be able to
avoid the attack. If anything, you’ll block the end of
the attack. It seems to work which definitely helps in
this frustrating fight.

Buying a three way shot is a waste of money for Lich.
Unless you buy a gold invulnerability as well, and I
don’t recommended that. If you are going to buy
anything, one rapid fire should be enough.

If you are low on turbo power and you have spare
potions, you might consider using them when he jumps
at you. When he gets close, you can knock him back
with a potion. This is recommended if your turbo meter
is low. Thanks to Mark Sando.

Desert Land (Hard)
Personal Rating: 4

Easy stuff: Easiest of the hard stages. Boss is easy.

Hard stuff: While this is the easiest hard stage, that
does not mean that the level is easy. The rune stone
is in the fourth stage and getting surrounded is
common.

City Ruins

In Gauntlet Legends, I could beat this level in twenty
seconds because I managed to simply find the
invisibility, a food item, and that was it. The exit
was right there. Well, not this time around. Actually,
there’s nothing here and this time I’m confident.

The Temple of the Magi

(Wonderful music plays in the background). In Gauntlet
Legends, this level consisted of pressing four blue
switches to reveal a rune stone. The rune stone isn’t
here this time around, but the boss weapon is. Proceed
to that area (there are no blue markers, but it should
look familiar. Hit every secret wall, switch, whatever
you can find until the lamp is on even ground with
you. Grab it, and get out of the level.

GLITCH WARNING

Somehow, during the level, I died when some of the
stones were rising (near the very end of the level.) I
continued. I was trapped underground. I couldn’t move,
my character was nowhere on screen, I could still
attack and that was it.

As stupid as this may sound, be careful about dying on
an elevator. Your character may get very screwed. This
has happened to other people as well. Thanks to Mark
Sando for letting me know that this glitch may be in
every machine.

The Mystic Pyramid

This level drove people crazy when they were trying to
find the last rune stone in the first game. There is
no rune stone here, but instead a treasure room.
Proceed through the level and when you are finished
walking on the outer edge of the pyramid, you are
getting close. Walk north and when you get a camera
change, proceed south. Hit switches everywhere. If you
see a death in the middle of the screen, you are going
the right way. Proceed south and then follow the path
until you hit:

“The Gauntlet Lab”

“HEY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN OUR LAB?!” This room is
very weird. Voices say random things as you walk into
the different rooms of the labs. Check out the classic
gauntlet machine while you’re in the treasure room.

Proceed outside, and keep going forward. That should
take you right to the exit.

The Tombs of the Undead

Proceed near the first exit. If you reach it, then
you’ve gone to far. Walk back until the floor changes.
Then try to walk up a ramp nearby. There should be a
switch on that area. Proceed back, and keep going
right until you reach a room that wasn’t reachable
before. The rune stone is in there. Grab it, and get
out of the level.

The Genie’s Sanctum
Personal Rating: 4

The lamp blinds the Genie just like the Javelin of
Blinding. It also drains him pretty good. Shoot as
much firepower as you can at him. His attacks include
a MUCH faster laser. However, you can still dodge it
by running down the stairs. You can also use your
turbo to block the laser if you think it’s going to
hit. He also has the sword swing if you get too close
too him. He can still shoot eye lasers and tornados at
you. Dodge them by moving clockwise around. He’s an
easier boss if you are playing solo. If you are
playing multi-player, then stick together. Otherwise,
he’ll continue to hit you with his swords all day
long.

Ice domain (Hard)
Personal Rating: 7

Easy stuff: Two exits every level. Rune stone in the
first stage.

Hard stuff: The rune stone that is in the first stage
is also near the second exit. Monsters are obnoxious
and the second rune stone is in the fourth stage.

Arctic Docks

Pass the first exit and continue on until you reach a
platform being supported by some junk. This should
give you a sign as to how close you are from picking
it up. After walking up the ramp, check out doors and
paths downward. If the camera angle turns so that
instead of going left, you’re going up, then you’ve
gone too far. Keep searching, it’s right around there.

Frozen Camp

There is a huge furnace that you should see. I don’t
think the path is linear, but I could be wrong. Keep
walking up the furnace until you see the parchment of
fire.

In a two player game, there is an anti-death around
here somewhere. By using this, it is possible to drain
three deaths in the next level (or one in this level,
and two in the next, or something like that.)

Crystal Mine

Pass the first exit. Go to the second elevator that
you find. Get on the elevator and follow the path
until you reach the treasure room.

Docks

Docks in the Ice Domain? Well, there is no ice around
here that’s for sure. Just a truckload of gold.

Erupting Fissure

If you find an area where you are walking on a frozen
pond, then you have gone too far. Proceed back and try
to walk up and then west. Look around that area. If
you reach the first exit, then you have gone REALLY
far. Backtrack. (Special thanks to Carlos Shearer).

BOSS STAGE - Yeti’s Cavern
Personal Rating - 8

I don’t know why, but I really had some trouble with
him the other day. Maybe because I was using the
Warrior and unfortunately, we know how good he is in
boss fights.

ALL PLAYERS MUST STAND ON THE MAGIC MARKER” It will
take a little time to actually reach him, so gold
invulnerability might not be your best choice.
Although six might help (actually three should be more
than enough.) The item will create a fire shield
around the yeti draining him down to 1/2 half and
creating a fire shield around him. This will prevent
him from using one of his attacks (him throwing ice
balls at you). These things are heat seekers some
times. When he stomps the ground, be prepared to
block. There’s no way to dodge that attack. There are
also times when he will create ice blocks in the
middle of the playing field. Make sure you get clear
shots while dodging his attacks.

Only one more of the eight realms and we have ALL
EIGHT KEYS!!! WHEEEE!!!!

Dream World (Hard)
Personal Rating: 7

Easy stuff: The Carnival isn’t that hard, but that’s
about it.

Hard stuff: Second rune stone is a pain because you
can’t backtrack to the first exit. Boss is a pain and
the boss weapon is the hardest to find.

Carnival of the Lost

The start of a long nightmare begins right now.
Proceed on downward until you get taken to a lower
level by a ferris wheel. By then you should see one of
those machines where you take a hammer and whack it
(test your strength). By that point you’re close. Hit
a switch nearby to lower the first door of the cage.
Proceed through the tent to find another switch. Press
that one and another area will reveal yet another
switch. Head back to the first area and find the new
switch. Hit that to open the cage and grab the rune
stone. Get out of the level as fast as you can.

The Haunted House

Ooooooooooooh. Uh, Okay. Proceed past the first exit,
but be warned. The rune stone is not that farther away
from you now, but you’ll have to take the long way
around because of great programming. :( Hit switches
nearby, and the rune stone will be in plain sight. It
shouldn’t be that hard to get. However, the rune stone
is not that far from the first exit, but
unfortunately, you can’t go back once you pass a
certain checkpoint and then you have to go all the way
to the second exit. Fun.

Maze of Illusion

Warning. Be prepared to be really scared after going
through this level. This may be one of the coolest
levels I have ever seen in a video game, but it is
also one of the wildest. The treasure room will
actually be very close to your starting position. When
you see it, you will notice that it looks like it is
on a platform floating in mid air. Not the case. Walk
down onto the sky, (yes off the platform so it looks
like your floating in mid-air), right, and then up.
When you reach the platform, the platform you just
walked on will be revealed. This will be an important
skill to remember as there is a gold invulnerability
to grab and you must also walk on an invisible
platform to find it. Anyway, once you reach the
treasure room -

Pojo’s Hen House

Oh, boy. Pojo as we all know by now is from Mace. Yes
he is a chicken that is still in Gauntlet Legends
(Just grab an egg when you see it) and now he has his
own treasure room. There are some secret places you
can shoot for some more gold. Make sure you don’t miss
them. Also, in a multi-player game, make sure you hit
a switch by a well. You can get a gold coin right then
and there.

Take an invisible path to a switch on the wall. Hit
that switch and follow a path upward. Head upward and
hit another switch up there. The lamp should now be
lowered down onto the ground. You still can’t get to
that area yet. Proceed back to the beginning of the
level. (WARNING: DO NOT HIT “THE MAGIC MARKER” BEFORE
GETTING THE BOSS ITEM OR IT’S GONE!!) Circle the area
and look for a new opening. Go to the opening and hit
another switch. Proceed back and look for another
opening. Head that way, and get the lantern.

There is a switch by the magic marker that I missed,
hope that didn’t confuse people. It’s by the magic</pre><pre id="faqspan-3">
marker. You should hear the pillar go down once you
hit that switch. Special thanks to David Orozco.

After proceeding through the level even further,
something frustrating happens. There is an area with
two deaths in plain sight. There is a switch that can
be reached by walking on an invisible bridge. The
platform with the two deaths becomes reachable. There
is some x-ray glasses (I think) around that area. If
you continue on, there is a silver chest. You can get
some meat with help from the x-ray glasses.
Eventually, you’ll hit a “magic marker”. You’ll see
another death and a chest. You can drain the death for
a level, but you can’t go back and get the other two
(or three if you count the silver chest). Don’t ask me
why. However, there is one more death that you can
drain at the very end of the level for two extra
experience levels altogether.

BOSS STAGE – Wraith’s Haunt
Personal Rating: 6

A sorcerer appears and has a field day with your
characters. His attacks include a huge arm hitting in
five different places. However, they are always on the
left or the right side of the screen. Usually, he
alternates between which side he wants to hit or not.
Then he sends these crawling things on the ground. You
should block these. He can also send a monster
fireball at you. Watch out for that. Finally, he has a
slow down attack where he fires at a spot and slows
down your movement.

The lantern of revelation damages the Wraith for a
good amount of damage and reduces his attack power. He
regains the attack power when he gets down to 1/4
energy.

If you stand in the center of the room, his arm attack
will miss you, and the lantern will block out the rest
of his attacks. You should be able to hit him much
easier. Special thanks to Clifford Shafran.

“Now that you have all eight keys, go to the altar of
Skorne and banish him from the realm.”

Skorne (Deadly)

Yes, deadly is what they call the difficulty on this
level. One thing that should be said is that unlike
the first one, you do not immediately get transported
to the Desecrated Temple once you have all the keys.
Instead, you can select to go there or not. If you
don’t have twelve rune stones, get them first.
Remember, if you’ve beaten a world and if there is a
rune stone in the level, you will see a hot-cold meter
in the upper right hand corner of your screen. Use
that to your advantage and do not go to the temple
until you have the rune stones. (You might want some
extra gold here as well.) :)

The Desecrated Temple

Once you choose Skorne’s world for the first time, the
only stage you can pick is the Desecrated Temple. Go
there, and be prepared to shoot a lot of enemies. This
might not be a bad place to have about four keys
either (at least one for the anti-death). If you
proceed to the left, you should still see the same old
death as well as the same old secret walls. Grab the
anti-death and drain all the deaths you run into (two
or four depending on what you get from the silver
chests). Continue on fighting about a thousand enemies
or so until you reach the end. Don’t leave yet. Hit
all the switches you can find. Check out the area on
the right. You should see the Soul Savior, which will
come in handy for the first Skorne. Leave.

You can save the three way shot and the fire amulet
for the boss instead of using them to clear out the
enemies. Basically, clear out all the enemies, then
get the items, then leave the level. Makes the next
fight much easier. Special thanks again to Clifford
Shafran.

The Altar of Skorne
Personal Rating: 5

The Soul Savior will drain about half of Skorne’s
life. It will also protect you from any fireballs he
throws at you. However, he can still hit you with his
fist where he slams the earth and has a fireball come
up underneath you. He has an attack that needs to be
blocked as it shakes up the whole screen. A rapid fire
might be able to take him down rather quickly, but
don’t bet on it. When the Soul Savior wears off, be
prepared to dodge the fireballs. After he dies, if you
have all twelve rune stones, you’ll go to the
underworld for more fun. I’m not sure what happens if
you don’t have all twelve rune stones by this point.
Don’t forget to grab one of the items that he leaves
(you can only grab one).

Skorne can be quite easy if you stand on the circle of
runes and just fire away while the Soul Savior keeps
him in check. If you have a rapid fire and a three way
shot combination, he goes down in no time. Special
thanks to Clifford Shafran.

The Gates of the Underworld

Having 8 potions might not be a bad thing if you are a
wizard. 8 instead of 9 because there’s one right at
the beginning of the level. There is nothing worse
than proceeding on through a level with about 200
snipers coming after you. Anyway, proceed through a
long level (much longer than the one in the first
game) until you reach the end. Previously, you fought
beasts. Here you fight golems. You will fight up to
SIX with three players. Actually, you don’t have to
fight the golems. They were really kind and put a
switch that you can press revealing the exit. Get on
that exit A.S.A.P. unless you like fighting 6 golems
at once. :(

There is a super shot right near the end of the level.
Leave it until you are ready to leave the level.
Remember, once you pass the archway, there’s no
turning back.

The Throne of Skorne - BOSS
Personal Rating – 10 (if no powerups)

A super mad Skorne is here to easily kick your butt,
unless you do what I did and buy two gold
invulnerabilities, two rapid fires, and two three way
shots. Then he should die after that assault. His
attacks include his chest beam, which takes off about
250, his fireballs, and he has an attack (I never saw
this in the first game) where he picks you up and
slams you back to the ground. I didn’t see how much
damage it did because I had the invulnerability on.
Without power-ups, he can eat a lot of money in your
wallet. With power-ups, you leave with extra health.
The narrator tells you to celebrate with him. Then he
tells you that the game isn’t over yet because the
evil wizard Garm absorbed Skorne. Now you have to find
the thirteenth rune stone.

Yes, the instant kill trick works on the second
Skorne. Who would’ve ever thought that beating Skorne
2 with a level 22 archer was possible by spending only
3500 gold? I bought a gold invulnerability just in
case he got a lucky shot and a three way to make sure
that it is a definite kill. Once again, special thanks
to Gungnir.

Yes that’s right, the game is still not over. In fact,
there is an entirely new level. If you pick the Skorne
level at the big map, you will now be able to select
the desecrated temple, and battlefields of Garm. Wow.
You can actually select the underworld again if you
want.

Battlefields of Garm

Yes, after all that, Midway was so kind to create a
whole new world after going through nine of them. And
yes, this world is not a complete walk in the park.

The Battlefield Trenches

There is unfortunately, no boss item for Garm. This is
not official, but honestly, nobody has found one yet.
If there is one, it’s probably in this level. However,
as of right now, there is no boss item for Garm.

Fortified Towers

Here it is. The thirteenth rune stone is in this level
and it is the hardest one to get. First, proceed
through the level until you reach an area with a golem
surrounded by a fence. Destroy the golem, hit the
switch and then grab whatever items that may be
important to get. However, before you leave the area,
you need to hit another switch that was previously
green, but is now red. Hit that, and the fence will
rise back up. It is very important that you do this.
Head toward the exit and hit every switch you can
find. Proceed onward until you reach the first exit.
When you do, head back up the ramp you just walked
down and hit the switch nearby. This should trigger
another fence by the exit to drop. Hit the switch just
revealed to reveal a new path. Proceed on the new path
and look for secret walls now. When you find one, that
will contain the thirteenth rune stone. DON’T LEAVE
THE LEVEL WITHOUT IT!!!

Encircled Fortress

Yes, believe it or not, this level contains another
treasure room. Unbelievable as seems, there is another
treasure room to find. However it’s not as hard to
find really. It just takes a while. It’s on a pretty
linear path, but you have to walk a while in order to
find it, you need to pass the first exit and proceed
until you reach the second one and then finally,

Treasure room

Trenches

Go figure. Trenches are EVERYWHERE!!! Honestly, you
shouldn’t be pursuing this treasure room in my
opinion. It takes a ridiculous long time to get there,
and it’s not worth the effort. Unless you need the
extra money for fighting Garm, stick with the first
exit.

If you did not find the thirteenth rune stone, you
will have to do the following three levels over again.
However, the hot-cold meter will appear in the upper
right hand corner to help you out in the second level.
If you did find the rune stone, then it’s time for the
final boss of the game.

Garm’s Citadel
Personal rating: 99 (I mean 11)

This guy’s middle name is cheese. His life bar is
REALLY long. And it may take a lot of cash (or gold)
to beat him. His attacks include an eye laser, which
you can see coming and isn’t that hard to dodge. He
can throw fireballs from his hands, dodging those
things isn’t too difficult. He also sends this wave at
you that moves oh so slowly to get to you. Time your
block carefully. What has to be the most annoying
thing though, is the creatures he sends after you.
Those guys probably take eight to ten shots before
they die. While you are trying to kill them, they are
shooting lightning bolts at you causing some sick
damage. When you do kill those creatures, they turn
into skulls that come straight at you which does about
300 damage alone because it keeps knocking you back
and hitting you over and over again. Keep firing and
eventually he will go down. Or just buy five gold
invulnerabilities, three rapid fires, three three-way
shots, and two phoenix familiars and MAYBE he’ll die.
Fun boss isn’t it?

If you can destroy his arms and his henchmen, you can
get right under him and attack all day long. Yes he
cannot damage you with this technique. You have to
destroy the arms though. Special thanks to Kevin for
this information.

But after all that, YOU’VE BEATEN THE GAME!!!

The narrator tells you that Garm has been destroyed
and such and such. Then you get your final stats which
include how many treasures you’ve found, how many
enemies you’ve destroyed, how many generators you’ve
destroyed, and the scariest part of it all, how many
credits you’ve spent on the game. Uh oh. It also tells
you how long you’ve been playing the game. Afterwards,
you don’t just get one postcard, you get TWO
postcards! WOW!! And one of those postcards is the
same one from Gauntlet Legends! YES!! Okaaaaaaaaaay.

Then you get a final FMV sequence basically saying how
evil has been destroyed or something like that. Then
the game starts over and you’re allowed to continue
playing. Enjoy and good luck.

10. Codes

In this game, rumor has it that there are a lot of
codes in this game. The following codes are to be put
it at the place where you enter your initials and
password.

Major thanks to Eric Chou for getting these codes out.

Pojo – EGG – 911

If you enter this code, you will be Pojo for the
entire game. It is very hard to play as this character
(can’t eat chicken because it’s poisoned food for him)
as well as the fact that he has only one turbo attack.

Pojo does not have a combo attack. Special thanks to
Kevin for letting me know.

Stick Jester – STX – 222

This code can only be put in if you are playing the
Blue side. You get a stick figure of a jester.

This character is a Jester with a different look to
him. Unfortunately, there is a problem with him. If
you die for any reason and continue, the character
goes back to LEVEL 1! If you input the password again,
the character is still at level 1. So this is
basically a one time thing and that is it.

Armored Warrior – RAT – 333

This code can only be put in if you are playing the
Red side. You get an armored warrior with a rat’s
head.

Similar to the stick jester, this character also has a
problem. If you die with this character and continue,
the character doesn’t go back to level 1. He goes back
to level 2. No joke. He is a warrior with a different
look to him.

* The following seven codes have been confirmed by the
Dungeon Master. Major major MAJOR thanks to the
dungeon master for these codes. For pictures on these
codes, visit the webpage:

www2.cajun.net/~dungeon/dark.html

* Ice Dwarf – ICE – 600

This code can only be put in if you are playing the
Red side. You get a big dwarf.

* Big headed Jester – PNK – 666

This code can only be put in if you are playing the
Yellow side. You get a Jester with a HUGE head.

* Cool looking Knight – TAK – 118

This code can only be put in if you are playing the
Red side. You get a REALLY cool looking Knight.

* Scythe wielding Valkryie – TWN – 300

This code can only be put in if you are playing the
Green side. You get a valkyrie with a scythe.

* Interesting looking Warrior – CAS – 400

This code can only be put in if you are playing the
Blue side. You get an interesting looking warrior (Can
I possibly say something else besides “this code can
only be put in if you are playing the **** side?
Probably not.)

* Evil looking Wizard – GAM – 666

This code can only be put in if you are playing the
Yellow side. You get a wizard who doesn’t look happy.

* Cool looking Wizard – SKY – 100

This code can only be put in if you are playing the
Green side. You get a wizard who looks pretty cool.

* I will hopefully have more information on what these
codes do later on.

If you have any other codes that have been confirmed,
please e-mail me.

11. Questions and Answers

How many rune stones are in this game?
Thirteen. You have to find the first twelve in the
eight worlds. Then you find the thirteenth in the
second level of the Battlefield.

Why can’t I increase my stats to 999 everything?
There appears to be a maximum stat rule in place. A
character can increase his stats by so many points in
each of the four categories. This leaves you the
question of “should I build up my character to maximum
stats buy buying stats, or should I just wait till
level 81 or 91?

Is there a treasure room in each world?
Yes. Check the FAQ again if you missed one.

What are the high score lists in this game?
Show off. :) There is a list for all the people that
have achieved level 99 status and the people that have
beaten the game.

How do I select an alter-ego?
Get a character to level 10. Next time you get to the
character select screen, hold turbo down and press
fight or magic.

Are alter-ego’s better than regular characters?
Yes. They can have 100 more stat points to their
characters stats than an original character with the
exception of the Hyena and the Ogre for some strange
reason. They also start out with higher stats than
their counterparts.

Who are the best characters in the game?
My personal favorite is the wizard while my sister
likes the valkyrie and knight. If you are just
starting out, my recommendations are to pick someone
in the magic class or the armor class. Those classes
are the best ones in the game right now.

Are there any other secrets in this game?
Apparently so. There are reports of twenty-six codes
being put into the game. The codes will be updated in
the FAQ whenever they become known.

Is there a way to stop the ticking life meter?
Unless your arcade is very generous, absolutely not.
However, it does not cheat this time around either. It
always remains at one tick per second and stays that
way. It does not go to two ticks per second. Food is
also at 100 percent of what the item is originally.
However, there is also a lot less food in this game
than in the first game. Not to mention more poisoned
food.

If you have any other questions, please e-mail me.

12. Credits and Thanks

Before I start, thank you everyone for all the
