1)Introduction

  There is plenty of information on the net about 'Dance Dance Revolution'
(DDR), which is great. In the UK we have the 'Dancing Stage' games, which
are essentially the same in all but name, but it is a lot harder to find
information about these. That's why I've written this FAQ (and others).

  If you have any questions about the EuroMix arcade that I haven't covered
here, please e-mail me them at [email protected], and I'll try to find out
the answer and include it. Also please let me know about anything that puzzled
you for a long time (but that you eventually worked out!) that I don't already
have here.

  WARNING: I'm not totally infallible! Let me know if you find something here
to be wrong! Yes, even if you notice that I've got the difficulty of one song
wrong by just one foot!

2.1) EuroMix Arcade Song List

  Here is the songlist, along with the difficulties. There are 28 songs in
total. 10 of these songs are not found on the home version: these have
**asterisks** around them. If you're lucky enough to have access to an
'internet enabled' version, then you might see some other songs!

2.2) EuroMix Arcade Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can I get on the darn scoreboard?!
A: Do well enough in Non-stop mode playing one of the sets called "Ranking 1",
 "Ranking 2" or "Ranking 3". Non-stop mode can only be chosen at the start
 of your game!

Q: Why do I keep failing the last song in Non-Stop Mode / Arcade Mode?
A: In both modes, the penalty for missing a step gets bigger as you go along.
 So on the first song, you can make quite a few mistakes (and in fact if
 you're doing a song on Beginner difficulty, failing won't even end your go),
 but still do okay - whereas on the last song, a single miss will take the
 energy bar down by about 1/4! This means it only takes a few misses to wipe
 you out.

Q: I saw a song that isn't on your songlist! What's that about?
A: A few EuroMix Arcade machines are 'internet enabled', meaning that they can
 download new songs! Count yourself very lucky if you've found one of these.
 Talk to your local arcade manager and find out how hard it is to arrange...

Q: I seem to be stuck on (insert number here)-foot songs. How can I improve?
A: Buy a home version! If you can barely manage 2 or 3-foot songs, get
 Dancing Stage EuroMix, since it has plenty of songs at beginner level. If
 you're already past that stage, then you're better off buying Dancing Stage:
 Party Edition, as it has lots more features (Edit Mode!) and songs (51!).

2.3) EuroMix Arcade Codes

  There are various special modes that can be activated (usually after you've
selected a song) in the Arcade version. I don't know how people are expected
to work these out, but when you do manage to activate one of the special modes,
the talking guy should announce its name. The buttons used to start the game
and select tracks will be represented by the text that they most closely
resemble - so the start button is [] and the selection arrows are < and >.

Change Dancer            Press < or > when you press []

Double Mode (One player plays on both sets of pads)
   If you play in Double Mode instead of Single Mode, you get half the number
of tracks - rounded down! To avoid getting conned like this, you'll just have
to put in double the money. For example, if you usually get 3 tracks for £1 in
Single Mode, then playing in Double Mode will give you just 1 track for £1, but
3 tracks for £2, which is better value.
   Once you've put in your money, hold down both < and > and press []. A menu
comes up. Still holding < and >, now press the [] on the other pad from the one
you are standing on. Now let go of all buttons. Finally, simply select Double
Mode from the menu that appeared.
  WARNING: If only one [] button is pushed, only one credit will be used, so
you'll probably get the rounding-down rip-off!

Hidden Mode              U, D, U, D, U, D
(Arrows disappear as they travel up the screen)

Sudden Mode              Activate Hidden mode, then add U, D, U, D
(Arrows only appear halfway up the screen)

Stealth Mode             Activate Sudden mode, then add U, D, U, D
(Arrows appear only when it's too late)

Left Mode                L, L, L, L, L, L, L, L
(Arrows are shifted anti-clockwise of their normal positions, so you get left
arrows instead of up, etc)

Right Mode               R, R, R, R, R, R, R, R
(Arrows are shifted clockwise of their normal positions, so you get right
arrows instead of up, etc)

Shuffle Mode             L, R, U, D, R, L, D, U
(Arrows appear at the same time as normal, but in a random direction, so the
up arrows could become lefts, rights or downs, or stay the same.)

Mirror Mode              L, R, L, R, L, R, L, R
(Left and Right arrows swap, and Up and Down arrows swap. NOTE! This doesn't
actually mirror the pattern, but instead *rotates* it through 180 degrees.
This means you could learn a song at home, then at the arcade play in mirror
mode, and dance while facing your audience!)

Little Mode              L, D, R, D, L, D, R
(Half and 1/4 steps do not appear. This means players of different experience
levels can play at the same time, the lesser experienced player using little
mode.)

Cancel any code          Put the code in again!
(For example, if you've selected Left Mode by going L, L, L, L, L, L, L, L,
you can return back to normal by putting in L, L, L, L, L, L, L, L again!)

Get on the scoreboard!   Do well enough in 'Ranking 1', 'Ranking 2' or
                        'Ranking 3' in Non-Stop Mode (See above).

Non-Stop Mode            On your 1st song, move right around the selection
                        wheel until you find the disk with a green diamond
                        on top. Selecting this starts Non-Stop Mode.
(Note that you can ONLY get on the scoreboard for the sets called 'Ranking 1',
'Ranking 2' or 'Ranking 3'.)

Other Modes              Some DDR machines have 'Another Mode', 'Maniac Mode',
                        'Couple Mode', and probably some more.
                        EuroMix doesn't.


3) Previous and forthcoming updates

  With version 1.4, I've split the original FAQ into the individual games -
so this now only refers to the (first) Dancing Stage EuroMix Arcade version.

  There do not appear to be any secret unlockable songs (apart from getting
internet mode, which you'll have to talk to your local arcade manager about),
nor any further codes, although if I hear of any they will of course appear
here immediately.

  Any questions I get asked will be added, but other than that there are no
plans for further developing this FAQ. Thanks again to everyone that has
helped my research, and to everyone that has sent me questions!
