- I. Introduction -
--------------------

Hey everyone! Welcome to my Beatmania IIDX 3rd Style FAQ. My name is Joshua
McQueary, but I go by XenoXiaoyu on the Internet. This is my first FAQ that
I have ever written. I wrote this thing because A) I love Beatmania and
B) an FAQ for this game has not yet been written. So, I thought to myself,
why not? Well, I hope you enjoy the FAQ!

- II. Game Information -
-------------------------

Beatmania IIDX 3rd Style (as well as all the other 'styles') are made by
Konami. After turning on the game and watching the 'cool' movie, push 'Start'
to go the main menu. The menu consists of 6 options:

A. Game Start
----------

This is the main mode of the game. When you first go to this mode, you
have to select a play style. The ones you can choose are '7 Keys',
'Light 7', '5 Keys', and 'Expert'. In this menu, you can push the
'Select' button to choose what modifiers you want. I'll explain in
detail what each of the modifiers are in the Training Mode section.
After selection 'Light 7', '7 Keys', or '5 Keys', you will be taken to
the main song selection menu and can play songs from there. Different
songs open up at different times (look in the 'Secrets' section for
info). Choosing 'Expert' brings you to a different menu. In Expert,
you have to choose a pre-set group of songs. These songs are all set on
7 Key difficulty and I don't believe there is a way to change it to Light
7 or a different difficulty. If you can, someone please e-mail me.

B. Free Mode
---------

When selecting this mode, you will be taken to a screen that gives you 4
options: 'Select Type', 'Select Play', 'Select Mode', and 'Start Game'.
'Select Type' lets you select between "1 or 2P Only" (play either on the
1 or 2P side), "1 & 2P" (lets you play Double), "1 or 2P & AUTO" (if you
have only 1 Beatmania controller and you want to play Double, this lets
the computer play the side you can't while you play either the 1 or 2P
side), "AUTO (1P)" (lets you watch the computer get all Just Greats on
either 1 or 2P side), and "AUTO (1 & 2P)" (lets you watch the computer
get all Just Greats on both 1 and 2P side). 'Select Play' lets you
select from modifying options. Look in the Training Mode section for
more info. 'Select Mode' lets you choose between '7 Keys', 'Light 7',
'5 Keys', and 'Expert'. 'Expert' is not the same as the 'Expert' mode in
Arcade Mode. Rather, it lets you play with the same power bar (the long
red one) in this mode. 'Start Game' is fairly obvious. Now, this mode
is pretty much useless in the beginning of the game. If you go to this
mode first, you will only have 5.1.1. at the song selection screen. To
unlock more songs in this mode, simply go to Game Mode and play songs.
Any songs you pass or fail will be put in this mode. Remember, you don't
have to pass songs for them to show up in Free Mode.

C. Training Mode
-------------

If you are like me, this is the mode you will probably be spending most
of your time. Going here gives you many options to practice playing
songs. 'Sound Select' is just that: it lets you select from the list of
songs you want to play. Be careful, though, because, as in Free Mode,
you can only pick songs that you have played in Game Mode. 'Player' lets
you play 1 or 2P side, 1 and 2P side, or Human on one side and the
Computer on the other. 'Select Mode' is where you select 'Light 7', '7
Keys', or 'Another'. Some songs do not have an 'Another' mode, so it
will be crossed out with a red line. 'Select Play' is where you can
select from many different modifiers.

Normal - cancels any other modifier
Random - randomizes where the 'bars' are placed
Mirror - mirrors where the 'bars' are placed
Hidden - the 'bars' come down to halfway, then disappear
Sudden - the 'bars' do not show up until halfway down
Double - you can play on both sides at the same time
Hi-Speed-1 - makes the 'bars' come down faster
Hi-Speed-2 - makes the 'bars' come down really fast
Hi-Speed-3 - makes the 'bars' come down blazingly fast
Low-Speed-1 - makes the 'bars' come down slower
Low-Speed-2 - makes the 'bars' creep down very slowly

'1st Measure' and 'Last Measure' modify on what measure the song begins
and ends. 'Repeat' makes the song, after it is finished, automatically
start playing from the beginning again. Finally, 'Play Speed' actually
changes the speed of the song from 1 (very slow) to 5 (default speed).

While playing the song, a movie usually plays on the opposite side of
where you play. In Training Mode, it doesn't. Instead it has a table
that shows how many Just Great, Great, Good, Bad, and Poor's you have
accumulated throughout the song. It also shows your Max Combo. When you
are through with the song, 'Weak Measure' shows your weakest measure, or
the measure you had the most trouble with. 'Replay' will keep the song
and your how you just did and 'save' it to the Training Mode menu so you
can go back and watch it yourself play again. If you want to quit in the
middle of the song, push the 'Select' button.

D. Records
-------

Going to Records gives you 4 options: 'Light 7 Mode', '7 Keys Mode',
'Expert Mode', and 'Music High Score'. 'Light 7 Mode', '7 Keys Mode',
and 'Expert Mode' all show the high scores for their respective modes.
Using the turntable, you can see the high scores for Double as well.
'Music High Score' lets you see the individual song's high score on a
play mode you select.

E. Options
-------

Going to Options mode gives you 10 options:

Game Level - decides how fast or slow the Groove Gauge goes down when
you get Poor or Bad key hits; left is slower, right is
faster
Sound - decide between Stereo and Monaural, change the BGM volume, and
change the SE volume
Controller Set Up-1P - lets you change from the Dual Shock 2 controller,
Original 7 Keys controller, and Original 5 Keys
controller; also, can configure button settings
for the Dual Shock 2 controller
Controller Set Up-2P - set up the controller on the 2nd player side; same
options as 1P
Auto Turntable-1P - lets you put on the Auto Turntable; when the red bar
comes down, you won't have to do anything, the
computer does it for you
Auto Turntable-2P - lets you put on the Auto Turntable on the 2nd Player
side
Vibration-1P - lets you turn off vibration, or turn it on when you hit a
button or only when you get Bad's or Poor's; of course,
this only works with the Dual Shock 2 controller
Vibration-2P - same thing as 1P side
Display Setting - changes the screen from Arcade to Original, changes
where your Combo Meter comes up on screen, changes what
side the turntable comes on, and changes the screen
adjustment
Movie Bright - lets you adjust how bright the movie is while you play a
song, or lets you turn it off completely; left is
brighter, right is darker or off

F. Memory Card [PS2]
-----------------

The Memory Card option lets you load a game, save a game to the Memory
Card, turn Auto Save off or on (which automatically saves after
everything you do), and exit back to the main menu.

Songs are listed in alphabetical order (starting with, of course, the numbers).
The 'Author' is the person who made the song, like TaQ or dj TAKA. The 'Type'
is the genre of the song as indicated by the phrase above the song title when
you select it. The 'BPM' are the beats per minute as stated by what the game
says. 'Light 7', '7 Keys', and 'Another' state how hard the song is (with a
1-7 star scale) on the song's respective mode. Songs with a 'NONE' out to the
side of 'Another' mean that the song does not have an 'Another' mode. The
table that shows the song information is as follows:

Actually, there aren't any secrets at all in the game. The only thing that is
'secret' are the song unlocks. So, I will just list when each song becomes
unlockable. There are 13 unlockable songs, for a total of 81 songs in the
game. To unlock songs, just complete Game Mode a certain number of times.
Unlockable songs show up as orange songs in the song select menu.
