INTRODUCTION [IN1]
'============================================================================'
Welcome to the first available FAQ/Walkthrough on GameFAQs! I am
accrovideogames and I hope that you will find it useful. Super Monkey Ball 3D
was released on March 27th 2011. As with most of the launch titles for the
Nintendo 3DS, the game received mostly negative reviews. However, it's still
quite enjoyable and does add new features never before seen in precedent
games in the series. Unlike most other Super Monkey Ball games, this one is
actually pretty easy and should please to casual gamers. As a hardcore gamer
myself, I was quite disappointed with the difficulty but still enjoyed the
game enough to write a FAQ.

Sensor. A summary of the game rules will then be displayed. When you're
ready, press the A Button to proceed to the game.
.-------------------.
/ WORLDS AND STAGES /
'-------------------'
The first time you play, 4 worlds will be available at the World Map. Each
world is made up of 9 stages which are cleared by successfully navigating
your way to the Goal Mark and 1 bonus stage which is cleared by collecting
all bananas or letting the time runs out. On clearing a stage, a breakdown of
your scores will be displayed on the Touch Screen together with a Save Replay
button - tap the on-screen button or press the X Button to save the Replay
data for later viewing.
Clearing all 10 stages completes the world, and you will be given an
opportunity to record your name together with your high score before
returning to the Monkey Ball menu. Clearing certain worlds for the first time
will also open up new worlds, accessible via the World Map.
.----------.
/ CONTROLS /

little to move slowly, or further to move faster. Tilt in the opposite
direction to slow down. The precise controls will vary depending on the
control type selected:
Circle Pad......Push the Circle Pad to tilt the game field.
Motion Sensor...Tilt the Nintendo 3DS system to tilt the game field.
Press the X Button during gameplay or tap the button at the bottom of the
Touch Screen to pause the game and display an overview of the Stage. Use the
Circle Pad to rotate the view and better grasp what waits ahead.
.------------.
/ GAME RULES /
'------------'
1. You begin the game with three monkeys (tries).
2. The time limit per stage is 60 seconds.
3. Running out of time, or falling off the course will cost you 1 monkey. If
you have any monkeys remaining, you will restart from the beginning of the
current stage. This rule doesn't apply to bonus stages.
4. Collect thirty bananas to earn an extra monkey. Bananas are found in
singles and bunches of ten.
.--------------------.
/ GAME OVER/CONTINUE /
'--------------------'
If you fail and have no monkeys remaining, you will be given the opportunity
to end the game and return to the Title Screen, or Continue from the
beginning of the last played stage. You can select Continue as many times as
you like, but your score for the world will be reset to zero and you will
lose all your bananas.
.------------.
/ PAUSE MENU /
'------------'
Press START during gameplay to display the Pause Menu as follows:
Continue......Return to the game.
How to Play...Check the gameplay instructions and continue.
Give Up.......Restart the current stage, losing a monkey in the process.
Quit Game.....Quit the game in progress and return to the Mode Select Screen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
WALKTHROUGH [WT3]
'----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
This walkthrough only applies to Circle Pad controls. Playing with the Motion
Sensor may make some stages easier or harder depending on two factors. First,
controlling your monkey ball is much harder with the Motion Sensor than the
Circle Pad. Second, with Motion Sensor selected, some stages will have more
walls to balance the difficulty.
It's also possible to finish stages differently than the methods I give you.
The strategies listed show how stages are meant to be completed. It's
possible to go out of the way and beat some stages in ways not meant to be
and get really high scores in the process.

You may have trouble with one or two bananas. Make sure to go fast enough in
order to reach the bananas on the slopes, especially the last one.
STAGE 04 LARGE SQUARE
Difficulty....02/10
Bananas.......11
Collectible...Arabian Banana
The Arabian Banana is the easiest collectible to get. There are two bumpers
near the end of the stage that may trouble you. Start slowing down when you
see the first one.
STAGE 05 MAGIC LAMP (BONUS)
Difficulty....01/10
Bananas.......50
Be careful when reaching the 15th banana as it is right in front of a hole.
STAGE 06 SQUARE WHEEL
Difficulty....02/10
Bananas.......09
There's a new obstacle presented in this stage: the bump. Bumps are little
protuberances on the road that make your ride bumpy when rolling over them.
The bumps in this stage shouldn't cause you any problem however.
STAGE 07 NINE CIRCLES
Difficulty....02/10
Bananas.......10
One banana is on a higher level than the road you are on. To grab it, you
must move fast enough to jump over the ledge but not too fast to go flying
into the hole. Except for when you want to collect that banana, you should
move slowly on this stage in order to avoid the bumpers.

Bananas.......13
STAGE 09 LEAF

Collectible...Sticky Banana
A mouth-watering place made of cookies, cakes, and fruits! It's always filled
with sweet fragrances!
STAGE 01 CHOCOLATE BAR
Difficulty....02/10
Bananas.......11
If you do it slowly, this stage shouldn't cause any problem.
STAGE 02 MILKY BUTTERFLY
Difficulty....02/10
Bananas.......09
There's some kind of obstacle halfway through the stage that need to be
rolled over. You need to move fast in order to do so. Also be careful of the
bumper near the end.
STAGE 03 SWITCH BRIDGE
Difficulty....03/10
Bananas.......11
There's a new feature presented in this stage: the switch. The two switches
in this stage each lower a bridge that allows you to continue. Be cautious
because this stage has some pretty narrow paths with no wall.
STAGE 04 SMOOTH WHIP
Difficulty....02/10
Bananas.......12
This level isn't too difficult but is longer than previous stages.
STAGE 05 BANANA LOVE (BONUS)
Difficulty....02/10
Bananas.......50
Although a bit more tricky than previous bonus stages, it's still pretty easy.
STAGE 06 CAKE DIVE
Difficulty....02/10
Bananas.......17
There's a new obstacle presented in this stage: dirt. Dirt roads drastically
slow you down. If you're collecting all the bananas, hold forward as soon as
the stage begins so that you move in a straight line. This will make you roll
down the slide at very high speed and allow you to reach the higher ledge
where hard to reach bananas are waiting.
STAGE 07 KNIFE & FORK
Difficulty....03/10
Bananas.......14
Collectible...Sticky Banana
The Sticky Banana is in plain sight and shouldn't cause you any trouble.
STAGE 08 FLOWER
Difficulty....02/10
Bananas.......10
There's a tricky bumper placed right before the goal.
STAGE 09 BUMPING SAUCER
Difficulty....03/10
Bananas.......06
There are a lot of bumpers in this stage and some of them are placed right in
the middle of narrow paths. Take extra care not to hit them.
STAGE 10 SAFE SUGAR
Difficulty....03/10
Bananas.......10
This stage's real difficulty is that it is long. If you're going for the
bananas, take the path forward when reaching a fork. The path on the left is
a shortcut with no banana.
.------------------------.
/ WORLD 4 BANANIGHTMARE /
'------------------------'
Difficulty....04/10
Bananas.......160
Collectible...Haunted Banana
Scary ghosts float through the air. Maybe they're after the bananas!
STAGE 01 JITTERBUG
Difficulty....03/10
Bananas.......08
STAGE 02 LONELY DRAIN
Difficulty....02/10
Bananas.......10
Collectible...Haunted Banana
The Haunted Banana is easy to miss. It's on the left slope of the last corner.
STAGE 03 DARK FOREST
Difficulty....03/10
Bananas.......12
Some bumpers in this stage are tricky, so take it slowly.
STAGE 04 POISON BUBBLE
Difficulty....03/10
Bananas.......15
STAGE 05 LANTERN (BONUS)
Difficulty....02/10
Bananas.......50
This is the first bonus stage to not have a linear path.
STAGE 06 VAMPIRE
Difficulty....04/10
Bananas.......13
This stage has a lot of bumpers and nearly all of them are trickily placed.
Be extra cautious.
STAGE 07 CROSS FIELD
Difficulty....03/10
Bananas.......21
You may not make it in time to the goal with all bananas. It's okay if you
lose a monkey and need to restart, you won't have to collect the bananas you
already grabbed again.
STAGE 08 LABYRINTH
Difficulty....04/10
Bananas.......07
If you're stuck in the low path at the beginning, try moving fast to get
free. Take note that there's a bumper nearby though. When reaching the end,
roll around the spiral in a linear path, don't take the shortcuts on the
right unless you don't care about the bananas.
STAGE 09 GO HOME
Difficulty....04/10
Bananas.......07
You will need to roll fast if you want to make it to the goal in time and/or
collect all the bananas.
STAGE 10 KILLER SLIDE
Difficulty....04/10
Bananas.......17
There's a new feature presented in this stage: moving platforms. This stage
is bit long so don't waste too much time.
.---------------------------.
/ WORLD 5 DRAGON'S JOURNEY /
'---------------------------'
(To unlock this World, you must complete Worlds 1 to 4)
Difficulty....05/10
Bananas.......175
Collectible...Red Hot Banana
It's decorated with gigantic dragons and fancy lanterns. Maybe it's a
festival tonight!
STAGE 01 DRAGON COIL
Difficulty....04/10
Bananas.......09
STAGE 02 EXPANDER
Difficulty....04/10
Bananas.......11
For once, the bumps on the road may cause you problems. If you go too fast
when rolling over them, they may send you flying into a hole. If you're
collecting all the bananas, you should start moving faster after hitting the
second switch or the expanding bridge will go too far and you won't be able
to grab some bananas. If you do make it too late, you can still wait there
and the bridge will eventually retract and allow you to reach the higher
ledge.
STAGE 03 ACTION STAR
Difficulty....04/10
Bananas.......18
There's a new obstacle presented in this stage: the super bumper. This new
kind of bumper is much stronger than regular ones and will send you flying at
sonic speed if you touch one. If you don't care about collecting bananas,
there's absolutely no need to hit the switches. Once you reach the part after
the third switch, you must simply fall down if you didn't it the switch;
otherwise, slowly move forward and let the ball drop down the slopes and grab
the bananas by itself. Make sure however to take control as soon as you hit
the floor below or you will hit the super bumper. The latter can actually be
put to good use for speed runners who want to hit it and speed to the goal.
This trick can be tricky because you need to hit the super bumper at a
perpendicular angle.
STAGE 04 THUNDER GATE
Difficulty....04/10
Bananas.......14
Be careful not to fall into the lower ledges when reaching the two narrow
bridge-like paths or you will waste valuable time backtracking.
STAGE 05 THE DRAGON (BONUS)
Difficulty....04/10
Bananas.......50
Despite being linear, the irregular path make this bonus stage the first one
to actually pose a challenge. You must constantly and carefully try to stay
in the middle of the path.
STAGE 06 PINWHEEL
Difficulty....04/10
Bananas.......16
It can be a bit hard to collect all the bananas and arrive in time to the
goal. The two pinwheels each have 4 bananas on them so there's no need to
keep wasting time looking for more.
STAGE 07 DESERT
Difficulty....03/10
Bananas.......19
Don't go in the middle of the dirt area, go around it instead. If you're
collecting bananas, there are 1 banana before reaching the dirt area, 3 if
you go left around it and the remaining 15 are all to the right. Take either
route and backtrack to grab the bananas on the other one.
STAGE 08 DEEP MARKET
Difficulty....03/10
Bananas.......10
It can be difficult to reach the goal in time with all bananas. There are 2
bananas on the left path after the fork and 5 on the right one.
STAGE 09 FIRE MOUNTAIN
Difficulty....05/10
Bananas.......19
If you want all the bananas, go right and drop down into the lower path to
grab the bananas sitting there then backtrack to take the other route around.
When you see a slope, climb it to reach the higher ledge and continue to the
right. The second slope to climb can be a real pain because there are bumpers
impeding your movement. If you don't want the bananas, follow my directions
but go right when its says left and vice versa. It's also possible to take a
shortcut where the zigzagging lower path is but you have to roll really fast
in order to reach the other side.
STAGE 10 GREAT WALL
Difficulty....04/10
Bananas.......09
Collectible...Red Hot Banana
It's extremely hard to grab the Red Hot Banana and make it in time to the
goal because you must drop down in order to get it and thus forcing you to
redo most of the stage. A trick to go faster when reaching the dirt is to go
on the edge around it.
.-------------------.
/ WORLD 6 SKYPOLIS /
'-------------------'
(To unlock this World, you must complete Worlds 1 to 4)
Difficulty....06/10
Bananas.......206
Collectible...Holy Banana
A huge temple floating in the clouds! A monkey goddess wouldn't look out of
place here.
STAGE 01 TWIN LOOPS
Difficulty....05/10
Bananas.......15
STAGE 02 BRAIN
Difficulty....04/10
Bananas.......19
Make sure to take the right path at the beginning if you want to grab all the
bananas.
STAGE 03 THUNDER
Difficulty....06/10
Bananas.......14
Although it's possible to do so without, you may want to hit one of the
bumpers in order to climb the slope at the end. Be careful not to hit the
super bumper instead.
STAGE 04 BREAKTHROUGH
Difficulty....04/10
Bananas.......15
Collectible...Holy Banana
Although the stage isn't too difficult itself, getting the Holy Banana is
very hard and I suggest to attempt it in Practice mode. To grab it, you must
start rolling really fast after the slope and hit one of the bumps to make
you jump on the higher ledge where the collectible is waiting.
STAGE 05 AIAI (BONUS)
Difficulty....01/10
Bananas.......50
This bonus stage is ridiculously easy to be part of this world and shouldn't
cause you any problem.
STAGE 06 BANANA DROP
Difficulty....05/10
Bananas.......13
When reaching the part where you need to drop down, roll fast enough to reach
the banana sitting at the top of the first slope. There's also a second
banana on the second slope where there isn't dirt. Be careful because the
third slope has a bumper on it, go right when dropping from the second slope
in order to avoid it.
STAGE 07 MYSTERY CIRCLE
Difficulty....05/10
Bananas.......26
Wait until you hit the switch in the middle of the circle maze before taking
the bananas. After pressing that switch, the ledges will lower and you will be
able to go over them. Be careful when grabbing the banana bunches because
there's a super bumper right behind them that will send you flying right into
the goal. This can be useful for speed runners though. For the shortest path
possible to the middle of the circle maze, take the route behind you when the
stage begins because it doesn't have any dirt to impede your movement. After
hitting the mandatory switch, go left or right and continue until you reach
the opposite side of where the switch was. There will be an opening for you
to enter the circle maze. When inside, go left or right and continue to the
opposite side again and enter yet another opening. This time however, go left
because the opening is right there. Once you're in the middle of the circle
maze with dirt all over, go right to find a small opening that will allow you
to hit the switch.
STAGE 08 HOP STEP KEEP
Difficulty....06/10
Bananas.......08
The only hard part is at the end. You need to roll into big bumps without
falling into the lower path. You can do it fast or slowly, all you need to do
is stay in the middle.
STAGE 09 GO ROUND
Difficulty....06/10
Bananas.......16
Avoid taking the paths with dirt in order to complete the stage faster. After
hitting the third and last switch, the platform will move back and forth to
allow access to two different paths. One is a dead end with bananas and the
other is the goal.
STAGE 10 SLIT CHANGER
Difficulty....06/10
Bananas.......30
It's extremely hard to grab all bananas and reach the goal in time. You may
have to lose one or two lives before succeeding. Do not take the middle lower
path at the beginning because there's a bumper waiting at the end of it.
.------------------------.
/ WORLD 7 SPACE FACTORY /
'------------------------'
(To unlock this World, you must complete Worlds 1 to 4)
Difficulty....07/10
Bananas.......205
Collectible...Space Banana
Massive robots and mechanical arms are hard at work, creating robots that
seem oddly familiar.
STAGE 01 GUTTER CIRCUIT
Difficulty....06/10
Bananas.......26
If you want all bananas, take the path forward when reaching a fork. You will
still need to backtrack a little and get the bananas that were on the left
path. There's a banana bunch right in the middle of four bumpers, be extra
careful when reaching that part. There are holes on the second and third low
paths. Slow down when reaching the last banana because the hole beside it
makes the path extremely narrow.
STAGE 02 COSMIC WAVE
Difficulty....06/10
Bananas.......14
Be careful when rolling down the slope covered in bumps because there's a
bumper waiting for you in the middle.
STAGE 03 SUPER SLIDER
Difficulty....06/10
Bananas.......15
Collectible...Space Banana
Try not to go too fast or you might fall down into the hole. However, you do
want to go fast if you want to grab the banana bunch sitting at the top of a
steep slope. It's also possible to take advantage of the bumper on the
opposite side in order to reach the banana bunch. The Space Banana is
extremely hard to get and should only be attempted in Practice mode. It's
located outside the half-pipe at the corner before the banana bunch. You need
to move fast enough to get out of the half-pipe and grab it while flying in
the air. It's really hard to aim and may take several tries to perform the
task. It's possible to fall back into the half-pipe below and finish the
stage, but it's impossible to get the collectible and all the bananas with
only one life.
STAGE 04 BANANA CAIRO
Difficulty....05/10
Bananas.......25
This stage can be a little tough to get all the bananas and reach the goal in
time. For those who don't care about bananas, the dirt path on the left
before the banana bunch is actually a shortcut.
STAGE 05 GALAXY (BONUS)
Difficulty....03/10
Bananas.......50
The easiest way to complete this bonus stage is to follow the linear path
without going over the ledges.
STAGE 06 DANGEROUS BOARD
Difficulty....06/10
Bananas.......17
There's a new feature presented in this stage: tilting platforms. It's not
necessary to take the paths with the tilting platforms, especially if you
want to grab all bananas. Otherwise, it's faster but harder to take this
route.
STAGE 07 BUMPER HOUSE
Difficulty....07/10
Bananas.......20
There's a new obstacle presented in this stage: moving bumpers. There are two
pink floors that act as some sort of conveyor belt for bumpers. Wait until
the moving bumpers pass by you before going to the other side as fast as
possible. The second set of moving bumpers can be a bit tricky, especially if
you're trying to get the banana on the other side. You can either quickly do
a 180 degree turn or go to the other side. If you choose the latter because
you want that banana, you don't need to worry about the moving bumpers as
long as you aren't touching the pink floor. It can be tricky to go around the
stationary bumper blocking the banana without falling into the hole. Once you
grab it, wait for the right moment to go through the pink floor again and
finish the stage as normal.
STAGE 08 SLOPE MANIA
Difficulty....06/10
Bananas.......13
There's a new feature presented in this stage: large tilting platforms.
Unlike the smaller ones which served as some kind of bridge two stages ago,
the large version is actually part of the floor. Except for two trickily
placed bumpers at the end, this stage is easy.
STAGE 09 AERO PIPE
Difficulty....07/10
Bananas.......15
The whole stage consists of one long half-pipe. You have to be fast in order
to reach the goal in time but slow enough to not fall into the hole. Green
sections are harder and should be tackled slowly, not only do they have lower
slopes but some parts are covered in bumps. You should also slow down when
reaching the second blue section because there's a sharp turn that will make
you fly into the hole if you go too fast.
STAGE 10 TIME LAG
Difficulty....06/10
Bananas.......10
Don't go too fast on the spiral part, there are many bumps and two bumpers
that may pose a threat.

/ WORLD 8 MYSTIC DOME /

(To unlock this World, you must complete Worlds 4 to 7)
Difficulty....09/10
Bananas.......198
Collectible...Giga Banana
A towering ruin deep in the jungle. Inside, computers remain eerily active.
What could they be doing?
STAGE 01 NEEDLE
Difficulty....06/10
Bananas.......17
STAGE 02 BIGFOOT
Difficulty....07/10
Bananas.......20
It's harder to get to the goal in time than circumventing obstacles. The only
real challenge is climbing some steep slopes. You have to be careful not to
fall off and waste time.
STAGE 03 REMEMBER ZIPANG
Difficulty....07/10
Bananas.......24
When reaching a fork, take the path forward if you're collecting bananas or
the shortcut to the left. You'll still need to backtrack in order to grab the
banana bunch standing in the middle of that shortcut if you picked the longer
path for the bananas. Slow down when reaching the end, the slopes are covered
in bumps and going too fast will make you fall.
STAGE 04 BODY TO BODY
Difficulty....07/10
Bananas.......11
Collectible...Giga Banana
The Giga Banana is in plain sight but you have to drop down in order to grab
it. Doing so forces you to redo part of the stage. It's extremely hard to
complete the stage and collect the Giga Banana in one go. There's no need to
rush unless you want to attempt that challenge.
STAGE 05 SMART BALL (BONUS)
Difficulty....10/10
Bananas.......50
The hardest stage in the whole game is this bonus stage. Although you don't
need to complete it to proceed, it is necessary for the Medals. I made a
Youtube video that shows you how to get a perfect.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9QHX9UuKWU
STAGE 06 SHOOTING STAR
Difficulty....07/10
Bananas.......20
This stage isn't really hard unless you want to grab all the bananas. There's
a hole right in the middle of the floor at the beginning that you may want to
note. You need to take last slope, or tip of the star, fast in order to go
over it and reach a hidden platform with bananas. You will need to redo most
of the stage again after grabbing them though.
STAGE 07 HUSH FLOOR
Difficulty....07/10
Bananas.......12
Be careful of the hole behind the first banana, it can be hard to see. You
must go around it by heading right. There are two forks in this stage and you
can take any path without having to backtrack for bananas. Be extra careful
when nearing the goal because there's a hole right in front of it. Circumvent
it from the left or right.
STAGE 08 COBRA
Difficulty....08/10
Bananas.......12
There are holes everywhere in this stage so go slowly. You really don't need
to rush here.
STAGE 09 STRANGE ROAD
Difficulty....08/10
Bananas.......15
This stage consists of a linear path that looks like a reversed half-pipe. It
can be hard to stay on top without falling. The trick is to always keep
moving without slowing down, but there's no need to go really fast.
STAGE 10 KEEP YOUR LINE
Difficulty....09/10
Bananas.......17
The last stage is also the hardest if you don't count this world's bonus
stage. The best strategy here is to move really fast because there are two
slopes that need to be moved on in order to circumvent the hole in the middle
of the path. Once you reach some kind of half-pipe followed by a hole, use
the half-pipe to boost you up to the upper ledge on the right. Be careful
because there's a bumper waiting for you right after that. In order to avoid
it, slow down as soon as you leave the half-pipe. The rest of the stage is
easier.

TRACKS STRATEGY [TS4]
'----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.-------------.
/ MONKEY PARK /
'-------------'
Difficulty...2/5
Length.......3.3 Miles
An amusement park with all kinds of fun and exciting rides. Keep your eyes on
where you're going!
TRACK 1
Difficulty...1/5
Length.......1.0 Mile
This first track is really easy. It's worth mentioning that pink floors on
the edges of the road slow you down. You will notice a rectangular shape on
the road map, there are two water puddles there. You can easily corner them
by staying in the middle of the road while turning. Near the end of the
track are areas on the floor covered with multicolored circles. Running over
them will drastically impede your movements and speed. There are also slopes
with boost panels in the middle of these areas. Unless you're power boosting,
it's not a good idea to use them. By the way, the Typhoon won't protect you
from this kind of floor.
TRACK 2
Difficulty...1/5
Length.......1.1 Miles
Use the slopes with boost panels in order to jump over the hazardous floors.
Shortly after this, there will be two rotating circles on the floor with cups
on them. You should run over the first one from the left and the second one
from the right to take advantage of the clockwise and counterclockwise
rotations. The last set of obstacles consists of two giant palm trees with
some sorts of sliced coconuts going up and down rapidly. The best route to
take is to follow the white lines on the road and go right of the first
coconut shell and tree, then go right of the second tree.
TRACK 3
Difficulty...2/5
Length.......1.2 Miles
One really annoying area is the one with the circus tents. Avoid climbing the
roof slopes too much or you might find yourself going backwards and/or
crashing into a wall. The best route to take is right then left. You may want
to pay attention for a waterfall after passing by a water fountain. You will
need to take a turn with a stream passing through the road. You can't avoid
it but you can perform a spin & dash or use a Typhoon, a Power Boost or a
Super Monkey Ball in order to not sustain a speed loss.
.------------.
/ MT. TYRANO /
'------------'
Difficulty...3/5
Length.......4.1 Miles
A track built on a rugged mountain. Watch out for the narrow winding paths!
TRACK 1
Difficulty...2/5
Length.......1.1 Miles
Not long after starting the race, there will be fossils on the ground. You
will lose speed if you run over them. There's a quicksand area with three
floor levels. You should stay on the upper level at all time. There's no way
to avoid losing speed here unless you have a Typhoon, a Power Boost or a
Super Monkey Ball. You can't spin & dash when you're on the sand unless you
are power boosting.
TRACK 2
Difficulty...3/5
Length.......1.4 Miles
After passing through a series of rocky gates, there will be a fork. The
right path is easier despite having no walls. There's an oasis area on this
track where you should avoid water and grass if you don't want to lose speed.
Right after this oasis area, you will come across a mountain. There's a hard
to see shortcut on the right. You should brake before taking a sharp corner
or you will fall down the cliff. If you don't take the shortcut, you will be
climbing the mountain. The falling boulders are easy to avoid but the three
sharp turns along the road may pose a problem. It's possible to take a
shortcut right after the second corner by continuing onto the rocky mountain
and skipping the third section of the route. You will need to spin & dash or
use a Typhoon or Power Boost to achieve this.
TRACK 3
Difficulty...3/5
Length.......1.6 Miles
At the beginning of the track is a stream. You can either take the normal
route or take a shortcut on the left by going against the stream. You
obviously need a Typhoon, a Power Boost or a Super Monkey Ball to do so. Stay
close to the right wall and do go in the middle of that pond. Once you're
back on the road, you may cut through the new pond ahead if your item is
still in effect. If you take the normal route instead, stay on the road at
all time and don't wander in the middle of the pond. Shortly after this you
will find a fork. The left path has water and two item gates while the right
one has nothing. You will then see a waterfall, it's actually a good idea to
go straight at it and run over the resulting stream since it will make you go
faster. However, you shouldn't stay on it for too long or you will be sent
straight down the cliff. One really annoying section consists of a dinosaur's
spinal column that you must use as a bridge. If you fall off, you will be
respawned at the beginning of the spinal column. It's very important to avoid
other players or you will be knocked down bridge. It's a very good idea to
use a Super Monkey Ball here if you have one. After that, you will find
yourself two large rocky walls. Pay close attention here to notice sand on
the left, it's important to avoid it when taking the turn. There are two
quicksands right before the finish line. In order to circumvent them, you
must go left of the first then right of the second one. It's also possible to
stay left all the way through if you're power boosting or have a Typhoon, but
you will still need to go fast with the latter.
.---------.
/ SKY-WAY /
'---------'
Difficulty...5/5
Length.......5.4 Miles
A highway above a bustling city. It's still under construction, so proceed
with caution!
TRACK 1
</pre><pre id="faqspan-2">
Difficulty...3/5
Length.......1.8 Miles
Traffic cones indicate that there's a hazard behind so make sure to avoid
them. There are three shortcuts on this track. The first one is soon after
you start. Right after going through a guide sign, you should notice two
poles with red lights on them and barricades between them. Go through these
barricades to fall on a lower road. Stay on the left side of that road and
every subsequent ones until you drop back on the highway. The second shortcut
can be seen where there's a skyscraper with some kind of tunnel in it. You
will notice yet another set of poles and barricades to pass through. Slow
down and go left as you reach the end of the tunnel so that you don't fall
into the hole instead of the road below. Be careful when falling back onto
the highway because there are two oil puddles here that will make you slip if
you run over them. You need to pass in between them in order to proceed
safely. Shortly after, you will reach a fork. The path on the left is the
third shortcut but there's a slight chance that it won't help you at all. The
reason why is because a train sometimes passes there, blocking the path for
several seconds. If you're lucky, you can see the train passing before having
to decide which path to take, take this opportunity for a guaranteed safe
passage. The end of the track consists of a long spiral road heading up. You
shouldn't need to drift here if your steering is good enough, but experts may
want to risk spamming spin & dash techniques to quickly ride up. Be careful
when taking the boost panels or you might crash into the wall.
TRACK 2
Difficulty...4/5
Length.......1.5 Miles
Soon after you start, you will reach a dead end with traffic cones with a
sign behind them telling you to go right. Make sure to follow that direction
after passing by the pole with the red light. There's an extremely hard but
useful shortcut to take on the left. If you want to risk taking it, I suggest
you slow down and take extra care not to fall off because the path is very
narrow. If you don't take it, you will come across two rotating steel ropes.
You can get around them from the left or right but it's easier from the left.
There's another shortcut right before the second steel rope, turn left to
take it. No matter which of the three routes you take, you will end up in a
wide area with heaps of sand and steel pipes. There will be sand on the floor
after the third sand heap. You should head right of this heap and go between
the two steel pipe heaps behind in order to circumvent the sand on the floor.
Keep going left, staying close to the sand, and take the path at the left of
the next sand heap in order to avoid the large water puddles. The rest of the
track should be easy, just make sure to avoid the traffic cones because they
indicate a hazard behind them.
TRACK 3
Difficulty...5/5
Length.......2.1 Miles
The longest and hardest track in the game. Experts may even consider
sacrificing speed for better handling. The major pain here is to not fall
off-track. Most corners are sharp and there aren't many walls to protect you
from falling. After a painful series of sharp turns, you will come across a
fork. Although you may want to take the left path, you can't really decide
which one to take because barricades alternatively block one path or the
other, forcing you to take the one that isn't currently blocked. If you take
the left path, you will encounter a rotating steel rope. To avoid it, stay
close to the edge on the left. You will soon reach a gigantic half-pipe with
many boost panels and two oil puddles, you obviously want to use the first
and avoid the latter. The second oil puddle can be tricky to circumvent, the
easiest way to avoid it is staying on the left slope. Be careful not to climb
the slopes too much or you might find yourself going backwards. Try keeping
yourself parallel to the middle of the half-pipe in order to avoid this
problem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
VEHICLE ATTRIBUTES [VA4]
'----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
Speed determines the vehicle's top speed. Acceleration determines how much
time it takes to reach the vehicle's top speed. Steering determines how
responsive the steering wheel is, the higher it is, the easier it will be to
make sharp turns. Drift is like Steering but only applies to when you are
holding the B Button while taking a turn. Turbo determines how strong the
boost is when performing a spin & dash with the R Button, running over a
boost panel, using a Power Boost item or doing a Turbo Start.
Beginners may prefer handling (Steering and Drift) while experts only swear
by Speed and Acceleration. Turbo is usually not that important but is often a
good bonus.

character first, followed by up to three guests; any remaining player slots
will be filled by AI players.
In Quick Match, you also choose the characters for AI players.
Gameplay abilities vary depending on the character you choose.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
GAME RULES STRATEGY [GR5]
'----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.-------.
/ BASIC /
'-------'
Your top priority here is to hurry up and grab all the banana bunches you
see. Concentrate your attacks on the leading monkey. If you're in the lead,
you may want to play more defensively by avoiding combat and collecting all
the bananas you see. Monkeys with high Power and Speed are useful here.
.-----------.
/ COUNTDOWN /
'-----------'
Your top priority is to avoid falling into holes because they will make you
lose a lot of bananas. A good strategy is to bring a high Speed character and
play defensively. Avoid unnecessary combat and let the other monkeys fight
each other and lose bananas. You may still want to attack leading players and
steal their bananas.
.--------.
/ HIDDEN /
'--------'
The strategy for Basic also works here but with one exception: you can't tell
who is leading. Concentrate on collecting banana bunches and attacking your
opponents indiscriminately.
.-------------.
/ SUPER FIGHT /
'-------------'
Power is useless here, only Speed will give you the upper edge. Only physical
blast attacks should be used as they are guaranteed to send your rivals
flying out of bounds. You don't even need to charge them up.
.-----------.
/ BOMB RUSH /
'-----------'
You may need to use a monkey with high enough Speed if you want to have a
better chance of avoiding bomb blasts. Keep your eyes on the background and
look out for incoming barrels.
.--------.
/ MASHUP /
'--------'
Rule sets are randomly picked at the beginning of each stage. Adapt your
strategy for every situation and hope for the best.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
CHARACTER ATTRIBUTES [CA5]
'----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
Power determines how powerful a monkey's attacks are. The higher it is, the
more recoil the opponent will receive and the more bananas he will drop.
Speed determines how fast the character can move while on the ground and how
fast the monkey's attacks are. Being faster means you can grab bananas and
run away from opponents more easily and also perform better combos. Jump
determines how many jumps you can perform before having to fall on the ground
to recharge. Power is usually the most useful attribute, followed by Speed
then Jump.
Characters with high Power should use heavy and blast attacks most of the
time while high Speed characters should emphasize on their quick regular
attacks.
.------.
/ AIAI /
'------'
Power............4/5
Speed............3/5
Jump.............2/5
Special Attack...Comet Punch
An all-round close range fighter. He has good power and speed but lacks long
range attacks. His special attack is the worst due to its very low range.
.--------.
/ MEEMEE /
'--------'
Power............3/5
Speed............4/5
Jump.............2/5
Special Attack...Pink Volcano
She's not as strong as AiAi but she can attack more quickly. Her special
attack hits all rivals around her. She lacks long-range attacks.
.------.
/ BABY /
'------'
Power............2/5
Speed............4/5
Jump.............4/5
Special Attack...Sonic Wave
A very weak but fast character. Some of his heavy attacks can hit pretty far.
Sonic Wave consists of a large circle around the user that hits anyone
touching it.
.--------.
/ GONGON /
'--------'
Power............5/5
Speed............1/5
Jump.............2/5
Special Attack...Green Cyclone
A slow but powerful monkey, he's the strongest of all fighters along with
Frankenstein GonGon. His blast attack creates a tiny cyclone which disappears
after a few seconds. Any rivals who touch it while it's sitting there will
get hurt. When using his special attack, GonGon turns into a cyclone and
starts to move forward, hitting all opponents on his path.
.--------.
/ YANYAN /
'--------'
Power............1/5
Speed............5/5
Jump.............3/5
Special Attack...Whirl Hammer
Along with Princess YanYan, she is the weakest character. Her combo attacks
are excellent and that's exactly what you should do when using her. She can
destroy the golden barrel rather quickly. The Whirl Hammer is among the best
special attacks and can easily hit every opponents on the screen. It's highly
recommended to use it in the middle of the stage.
.--------.
/ DOCTOR /
'--------'
Power............4/5
Speed............3/5
Jump.............2/5
Special Attack...Magnetic Banana
He shares AiAi's stats but looks more like a stronger and slower version of
YanYan. His special attack is the same as Baby's Sonic Wave.
.-----.
/ JAM /
'-----'
Power............3/5
Speed............4/5
Jump.............2/5
Special Attack...Mad Jam Dash
This clumsy monkey is the worst character in the game. He has the bad habit
of striking a pose or tripping after dashing or attacking. He does have an
interesting special attack though. After striking a pose that will send
flying any rivals right beside you, you will actually gain control of him
play tag with your opponents. Touching them while you're running will knock
them off-screen. This effect lasts for several seconds.
.-----.
/ JET /
'-----'
Power............3/5
Speed............3/5
Jump.............3/5
Special Attack...Kung Fu Laser
This all-round character is pretty good. His special attack hits everyone in
a forward path.
.--------------.
/ CAPTAIN AIAI /
'--------------'
Power............4/5
Speed............3/5
Jump.............2/5
Special Attack...Bombardment
A long-range version of AiAi. Bombardment makes the ship rapidly fires its
cannons all over the stage. The pattern is random but you can still tell
where the barrels will blast by looking at the background.
.--------------.
/ WITCH MEEMEE /
'--------------'
Power............3/5
Speed............4/5
Jump.............2/5
Special Attack...Double Volcano
She's almost the exact same as MeeMee. Her special attack doesn't go as far
as MeeMee's but can hit rivals directly above you.
.------------.
/ AGENT BABY /
'------------'
Power............2/5
Speed............4/5
Jump.............4/5
Special Attack...UFO Beam
An improved version of Baby, almost all of his attacks are the same but his
UFO Beam has a wider range than Baby's Sonic Wave.
.---------------------.
/ FRANKENSTEIN GONGON /
'---------------------'
Power............5/5
Speed............1/5
Jump.............2/5
Special Attack...Barbell of Thunder
He's the same as GonGon except for one thing: his special attack. It creates
a vertical thunder bolt that hits everyone above and under the user.
.-----------------.
/ PRINCESS YANYAN /
'-----------------'
Power............1/5
Speed............5/5
Jump.............3/5
Special Attack...Spirit Hammer
She resembles YanYan a lot. The main difference is her special attack.
Hammers will randomly pop out of nowhere and hit the ground below. It's
impossible to tell where the hammer will hit so just hope for the best. Its
unpredictable pattern makes the Spirit Hammer one of the best special attacks.
.--------------.
/ ROBOT DOCTOR /
'--------------'
Power............4/5
Speed............3/5
Jump.............5/5
Special Attack...Space Laser
Despite having the highest Jump stat and thus being the only character able
to do 5 consecutive jumps, his midair jumps are very weak and don't go high
at all. Some of his attacks are better than Doctor's. His special attack's
pattern is random and impossible to dodge when you happen to be where it
decided to it. It consists of lasers hitting in all directions.
.-----------.
/ NINJA JAM /
'-----------'
Power............4/5
Speed............5/5
Jump.............3/5
Special Attack...Pyrotechnics
Although an improvement over Jam because of his high stats, he still has the
same problems. He can now throw shurikens and his special attack consists of
a long-range fire breath. He also suffers from the same jumping problems as
Robot Doctor.
.----------.
/ BONE JET /
'----------'
Power............3/5
Speed............4/5
Jump.............2/5
Special Attack...Primeval Might
A faster version of Jet with long-range attacks. His special attack consists
of a series of bones thrown forward at varying angles. It can also hit rivals
located on a lower platform.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS [FA6]
'============================================================================'
Q1. What are Play Coins?
A1. They are the coins you get when walking with your Nintendo 3DS in sleep
mode.
Q2. How do you get the Cliffhanger collectible?
A2. You need to stay approximatively 25 seconds close to an edge without
falling and moving. Your monkey must be making sounds out of panic and
agitating his/her limbs. When you're done, you must successfully complete
the stage.
Q3. Why didn't I get the Circle/Motion Medal after completing a world?
A3. Because you also need to get all the bananas in the bonus stage.
Q4. Do you get anything for earning all three Medals for World 8?
A4. Sadly, no.
Q5. What's the purpose of the Credits game?
A5. It's only there for fun, you don't get anything for collecting many
bananas and avoiding letters.
Q6. What is the best vehicle in Monkey Race?
A6. This really depends on your skills and preferences, but beginners will
find the Mini Kart to be the easiest to use while intermediate players
may prefer the Banana SP. Experts will find the Mr. Magic to be the best
of the bunch despite being the hardest to master.
Q7. Who is the best character in Monkey Fight?
A7. This really depends on the situation and your preferences, but GonGon,
YanYan and Jet, as well as their counterpart, are very good choices.
Q8. Why didn't I get a critical hit after using a blast attack in Super Fight?
A8. Because it wasn't a physical blast attack. Characters who don't have one
are GonGon, Captain AiAi and Frankenstein GonGon.
Q9. Can you delete your save file and high scores?
A9. No, you can't. SEGA was dumb enough to not include this option.

ABOUT ME [AM7]
'----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
I hope that you've been enjoying reading my first FAQ ever! My name's Simon
(AKA accrovideogames) and I was born on April 2nd 1990. I'm French speaking
but I'm also very fluent in English as you can see. I hate it when people
pronounce my name in English instead of French. The "Si" is pronounced "See"
but there is sadly no equivalent sound in English for "Mon". Look for an
audio pronunciation online. I've been a member of GameFAQs, which is my
favorite website, since February 7th 2005, but it has been my homepage since
late 2001. I don't have any regular message boards and usually post messages
in boards about games I'm currently playing, looking forward to play or
simply have something in mind about the game that I want to talk about.
By the way, "accro" is a French word meaning "addicted to". In other words,
I really love video games. However, the term "addiction" is only a metaphor,
playing video games is just my favorite activity. It doesn't restrain me from
leading a normal life. I like most genres of games, from casual games
suitable for children to violent survival horror games. I usually don't like
licensed sports game, for example anything from EA Sports and 2K Sports.
Other hobbies I like are watching television, reading and writing.
