Introduction
============
This is my First FAQ for GameFAQs. I have used the site for many years, and
learn about many games. I wanted to write an FAQ, so I started with a small
game that I am familiar with.
Most people that see this will know that Thunder Force III is a great game.
It is loads of fun to play. It can also be a very hard game to beat, so I
constructed this Walkthrough to help against some tough bosses and stay alive
through the game.
======================
Controls/Gameplay Info
======================
The controls in this game are very simple.
D-Pad = Move ship
A = Change Ship Speed
B = Fire
C = Change Weapon
When you start, you come to a Stage select screen with several Planets.
Hydra
Gorgon
???
Ellis
Seiren
Haides
These are the Different stages you can select at the beginning.
You only have a choice at the beginning, and then you automatically
advance to the next stage. I suggest starting with Hydra. It is the
Easiest one to play through and can give some nice upgrades to take to
the next levels. Hydra is the only level you are allowed to touch the
walls.
Ways to blow up:
- Crash into the side
- Crash into an obstacle
- Get shot by anything
- Crash into any ship
You start with two initial weapons, and when you blow up, you lose the
current weapon selected. If the weapon was one of your initial two. You
keep it and it drops to its base level.
=============
Weapons/Items
=============
During the game you will see Bubbles with Letters on them.
They represent the Weapons and Powerups you can get.
(S)RED - 1st weapon Upgrade
(L) - 2nd weapon Upgrade
(W) - Wave shot
(F) - Front shot with missile shooting up and down
(H) - Homing Spheres
There are other items that will help you out in the game.
(S)BLUE - Shield
Gun - Revolving Guns
Mini Ship - Extra Life
The Revolving guns shoot extra shots of whatever weapon selected.
This is what your initial weapon inventory will look like:

Stage Walkthroughs
==================
------------------------
- Stage
Hydra
- Target
Gargoyle
- Weakpoint
Stomach
This level is pretty straightforward.
Key Tips:
- Watch for ground missiles. They have large explosions that can hit you
from a distance.
- MiniBoss - This is a small ship with crab arm. Arm shoots lasers 3
in a row. Aim for the main ship.
- Boss - It is a walking bird. When it breathes the fire out of its mouth,
move up and back. He also shoots 4 Fireballs 3 times in a row. To
avoid these, just move ship a little after each set. Aim for the stomach.
------------------------
- Stage
Gorgon
- Target
Twin Vulcan
- Weakpoint
Search Radar
There are a few hard obstacles to avoid here. This can be hard to complete
without dying once or twice.
Key Tips:
- Be careful of the fire pillars and jumping fireballs. They can shoot up
unexpectedly. Also try to stay in front of them when you have a chance,
because they may come up and trap you in the back.
- Watch for the little ship on the ground halfway through the level. It is
an item ship. When you shoot it you a weapon or item will drop. This
time, it gives you an (H). This is best overall weapon in the game. You
Always want to pick up (H)'s when you can.
- MiniBoss - You will begin to speed up. When it appears, just shoot at
it, and watch out for the spheres around it.
- Boss - There will be two of these odd machines. Shoot the Part that pops
up from the top. The bullets they shoot bullets go in 8 directions. (h)
would be very useful for this boss.
------------------------
- Stage
Seiren
- Target
King Fish
- Weakpoint
Eye
This level is slightly difficult. You have to watch your ship's position
often, because you will notice that it rises from the bubbles.
Key Tips:
- Be careful when you're near rising bubbles. They raise your ship.
- There is another (H) in this level. After the first octopus, shoot the
item ship in the bottom right before it goes down the hole.
- MiniBoss - This big ship shoots lots of bubbles then wave shots out the
front. Simply shoot the middle of it to make quick work of this miniboss.
- Boss - It looks like front of a stingray. It shoots 6 rings. There is
a big gap in the middle of them all, but watch for arrows that sometimes
get shot. When it is close to dying, the rings get shot more often.

Eye
This level can be very tricky. The floor rises and falls at certain points.
A trick to avoid getting closed in on is to watch the right side of the
screen. If you see a part in the rock pointing too far up, it might be a
good idea to rush ahead. At the beginning there is an early occurance of
this. There are also bubbles in the shape of a wall. You must shoot them
to make way for yu ship. They can not be shot by the (H) weapon.
Key Tips:
- The floor rises in some areas.
- Don't touch bubbles forming a wall
- Watch for swinging rocks halfway through
- When you see the (H) about half way through, either grab it fast or don't
get it. Go to the bottom and wait. You will slow down and go back. Shoot
behind you. Then go up.
- MiniBoss - The Snail shoots two waves straight out that slow down, then
turn for you. He also shoots two little splooges in the middle. Just shoot
the eyes as fast as you can.
- After the miniboss, you will speed up. Watch the rocks falling and
shooting from ground. When you slow down rush forward, rush forward,
because the floor rises.
- Boss - The Lobster comes from the back of you. Get to front, and shoot
between the claws. He shoots groups of missiles, and lasers out his claws.
Sometimes he will charge up and shoot 2 large Energy Balls.

Ellis

Mobile Fort
- Weakpoint
Control Unit
This level has a lot of up and down motion of the screen. You will have be
able to manuever through icicles which drop from the top, and close in areas.
Key Tips:
- Icicles drop from the side of the screen. Just avoid these.
- Icicles that come from the rock will grow, and close in areas. Shoot them,
and they will recede.
- MiniBoss - It is a huge floating head with bubbles circling it. They spin,
and then spread out. The head teleports and repeats the process.
- When the screen goes horizontally, there are two icicles at the end. One
goes up and the other down. After those, go to the bottom right and shoot
the corner. Before you start rising, quickly pick up the (H) that appears.
- Boss - Three pieces come together. The middle shoots 3 arrows constantly,
while the arms shoot ships. Shoot the middle until the arms blow up. Keep
shooting until you win.

No Data
This whole stage is just one big ship.
1st part - Two large cannons shoot huge lasers. Just shoot the cannons.
Tip: Stay above the lasers for two times then go below them.
2nd part - Shoot a bunch of parts along the top as you move along.
3rd part - Shoot two domes. Pick up (H) in the corner.
4th part - Shoot some things along the bottom.
5th part - When the screen shifts to go up, go inside the hole in the ship.
Boss - At the end of the hole, there is a machine that shoots many planes.
Then, small cannons will come out and shoot lasers. Go in the nook
above to avoid the lasers.

Orn Base
Key Tips:
- Get the (H) on top of a divider.
- As you're moving down, watch for the Revolving Guns item in the top right
corner, and an extra life in the bottom left corner.
- MiniBoss - It is a computer that shoots out splooges. They break into 8
beams. It also shoots bullets. Shoot the two guns first, then the
middle.
- Shoot the Netting that looks like a bunch of "X"s.
- 2nd MiniBoss
- Boss - One of the Hardest in my opinion. This one has a big shield
protecting it. To make this even worse, there are blocks moving around
the screen in a fixed pattern. This can be very hard. First, shoot off
the armor, then shoot middle. The middle will shoot a laser too, so that
is even more to worry about.
------------------------
- Stage
Orn Core
- Target
Cha Os
- Weakpoint
No Data
This level is only two bosses.
Key Tips:
- MiniBoss - There are arms that protect the middle. These are shoot two
bullets in your direction. The middle shoots a swirling stream of spheres
straight ahead. Shoot the inside of it.
- Boss - This huge computer shoots constant spread bullets, and bouncing
bullets. Once you hit it enough, it comes out of its shell. It shoots a
ring of spheres, and a halo of wave shots. Just shoot the hell out of it.
You've Won!!
