       Although this guide does not have a specific section-by-section way to
get to where you want to go, you can reasonably get to the approximate point you
are at (more detailed than using the chapter search codes) by taking the number
of the last Rhythm game you played, and inserting it into [RXX], with the number
of the rhythm game replacing 'XX' (so, for example, if there were a game #50,
you would punch in [R50]. For numbers 1-9, use [R0X]). Again, use CTRL + F
function to quickly find the game you were last at and scroll down from there.

 ==============
 R01 - Showtime
 ==============
 [RO1]

       There are three segments to this first mini-game, much like for most of
the mini-games in Rhythm Thief.

       Here, Phantom R dances in a troupe with two other people. For each dance
movement, the other two performers will move first, then Phantom R. An arrow
that shows up on-screen will indicate which direction Phantom R must move in (if
you watch the other two dancers as well, they will also move in the direction
you must move). When Phantom R moves (and not prior), you need to draw a stylus
across the touch screen in the direction the arrow indicates.

       You do not need to draw directly on the specific arrow on the touch-
screen. Just dragging it across any section of the touch screen is fine. You can
also put and hold your stylus on the screen to start, and then drag it when it
is your turn.

       During the first segment, the rhythm goes slow, so you have plenty of
time to prepare to draw the on-screen stylus arrow direction. During this
segment, you will only be asked to draw your stylus left or right.

       For the second segment, action speeds up, but this may be to a more
comfortable speed to react to. You will still be mostly going left or right,
with some clockwise drawing of a circle towards the end.

       In the last segment, all four cardinal directions as well as the
occasional circle are freely thrown in, and the tempo of the mini-game speeds up
some more.

       Phantom R runs along the security hallways of the Louvre. Every time you
come up to a statue which has a tinted glow around it, you need to press the
coloured button on the bottom screen corresponding to the glow around the
statue. Timing is again crucial here, as you need to wait right until about a
moment before getting to the statue before pressing the button.

       In the first segment, the statues are mostly yellow, with a few reds
thrown in.

       For the second segment, you will get blue statues thrown in.
Additionally, there will be two statues in quick sequence at times, so when you
see the next statue ahead, keep your fingers and stylus ready.

       The third segment has all four colours of statue, but yellow still
appears to be the most common throughout the entire mini-game.

 R03 - Le Getaway
 ================
 [RO3]

       In this mini-game, Phantom R needs to run a linear path along multiple
rooptops, along with some swinging and sliding action. Phantom R runs
automatically, but when you see either an A or B button, you need to press the
button as soon as you pass under the button prompt. You do not need to hold the
B button while sliding.

       First segment is entirely full of A button presses. During this segment
and the subsequent ones as well, a few button sequences are close together, so
that when you land from one A button jump, you need to immediately press A to
jump again. This also goes for the parts where you swing from the branches and
jump onto progressively higher rooftops.

       The second segment introduces the B button presses, which are slides.
Occasionally you will slide through small holes in walls, with more button
presses right away after sliding through the wall, so watch out for these
moments and be prepared to press a button again.

       The third and final segment does not introduce any new elements.

 =======================
 R04 - Battle Diabolique
 =======================
 [RO4]

       In this mini-game, Raphael will be directly attacked by numerous knights
dressed up in armour. To stop them, you need to strike them when they get close
to Raphael by pressing either the A button (for ones approaching from the right)
or the D-Pad Left button for ones approaching from the left side.
Ostentatiously, you need to wait for the circle around the button prompt to
shrink and then flash red before pressing the button, but the timing seems to be
fussy on this.

       One thing you can try to do is simply to mash the A and Left buttons
repeatedly as quickly as you can, as Raphael is able to strike out with his
hands multiple times per second. While this is not a perfect technique, it can
reasonably get you through the mini-game with a D or C, and a B or A if you get
lucky in the last segment.

       The first segment goes fairly slowly, with enemies first approaching
from the A side multiple times, then switching over to the Left side for some
more fighting.

       When you get to the second segment, the tempo of attacking enemies
speeds up considerably, approaching from both sides at nearly the same time, or
one quickly after another from the right side. At the end of the third segment,
the boss knight himself approaches Raphael, and you need to button mash both the
Left and A buttons to ward him off.

       The third and final sequence is the same as the second, only far
quicker. This is where button-mashing may come in handy, as you may under normal
circumstances have trouble responding simply.

 ==================
 R05 - Bone Appétit
 ==================
 [RO5]

       This is the first mini-game in the game to use the 3DS's built-in
gyroscope mechanism, which tracks the 'position' of the game unit. Raphael will
throw pieces of meat at Fondue, either going centre, left, or right. When he
throws it centre, keep your 3DS unit upright. When he throws it left, tilt your
3DS left so the left side is facing the ground at an angle, and vice versa for
when Raphael throws a piece to the right.

       Gyroscope tilt controls works a bit slowly, so Fondue will not instantly
move in accordance with the 3DS, so you need to be patient. If you need to move
from left to right or right to left, do not bother centralising your 3DS first -
move from tilt to tilt.

       In the second and third segments, Raphael throws out junk. Ignore these
and move to not be in the catching lane of these items.

       The first segment goes a bit slow to start, and then picks up in speed,
with Raphael throwing two pieces in quick succession. At the end of the segment,
he throws a big piece, which you must tilt left and right repeatedly in quick
succession to devour in the time frame given.

       The second segment does not go any quicker than the first segment (at
least noticeably), but the formula gets switched up slightly with a piece of
metal being thrown out - stay away from this as it will lower your score if you
catch it. The segment ends off with another big piece of meat.

       For the final segment, the speed of meat being thrown out also does not
pick up any faster, but there will be a couple of times where Raphael will throw
out three pieces of meat quickly. He also throws out more junk, so dodge them.
The piece of meat at the end has a lower time frame for you to eat it in.

 R06 - Rhythm Kitchen
 ====================
 [RO6]

       In this game, the chef on the left will take a food ingredient out. This
ingredient can be a vegetable, in which case it takes a short time to cook
(onions more so than asparagus), or a piece of meat, which takes longer to cook.
When the chef does take the ingredient out, hold your stylus down on the screen,
and keep it down as a gauge fills up for the cooking period of the ingredient.
Once the gauge fills up, immediately drag your stylus to the right for Raphael
to toss the ingredient off to the second chef.

       Your points (and rhythm gauge) both fill up (and fall in the case of the
gauge) both on holding the ingredient while it is being cooked, and then tossing
it off.

       The first segment is fairly straightforward, with mostly vegetables that
take little time to catch, so use this point to get used to the controls.

       The second and third segments do not differ much from the first segment,
though ingredients will cook faster than before and therefore need to be handed
off sooner. They introduce some more pieces of meat that take a lot longer to
cook, meaning you need to hold them longer, but not much else.

 ===================
 R07 - Moon Princess
 ===================
 [RO7]

       This mini-game may take a bit to understand at first. There are four
strings on the top screen. On the left two strings, red arrows will come down
towards the bottom. When they reach the bottom, you need to quickly drag the
arrow RIGHT for the string to be played. Blue arrows are on the right two
strings, and will need to have the stylus drawn LEFT to play them. Consecutive
arrows will have strings drawn betweem them, representing the different verses
of the melody.

       The best method to play this is to hold your stylus down on the screen
and draw left and right as required, without ever lifting your stylus.

       Moon Princess also gives you a ridiculous amount of leeway - I had zero
misses on my third try (the first and second being to understand how the game
played). However, if you draw your stylus long before an arrow reaches the
bottom of the strings, you do not get a 'Perfect', but merely only a 'Great' or
'Good'.

       The first segment moves a bit slow, then picks up later on about halfway
through as it throws arrows at you in quick succession.

       The second segment increases in intensity with one very note-intense
segment towards the end. Shortly after this, when it appears the segment is
over, watch for a single arrow pointing RIGHT to come - since it is not
connected to any other arrows by lines, it may be difficult to notice, but it is
there.

       The third segment is not as note-intense with little time between each
specific note as the second segment was at any point: however, it has very
little breaks in between, with 2 segments of about twenty to thirty notes each.

--> Solve the Riddle of the Stained Glass: Using A and B to represent the two
   columns and 1 through 5 to represent the rows, match A1 and B5, A2 and B4,
   A3 and B3, A4 and B2, and A5 and B1

 ==========================
 R08 - Destroyer Diabolique
 ==========================
 [RO8]

       Unlike with Rhythm Mini-game #04, you cannot simply button-mash all the
way through the game. What you have to do is wait for the Knights to come down,
who can range between three to five enemies at a time. As soon as they raise
their arms up, wait for about a half-second, your timing getting better with
practice as always, and then button mash the A button. Raphael strikes the
knights in sequential order that they leap at him, so if you act a second too
early or late, you will be striking at the wrong spot when a Knight comes at
you. In this sense, however, it can be slightly easier than #04 if you get your
timing down pat.

       If you have trouble with fending off the knights, what you can do is
basically Pause-scumming - wait until the Knights raise their arms up, then
rapidly hit the Start button to pause the game, and look at the status of the
ring around the A button on the top screen. Press A to resume the game and Start
to pause until you are satisfied with the ring, then rapidly press A to resume
the game and then strike at the Knights.

       The first segment starts off slow, with only three or four enemies
coming down at a time.

       The second segment moves quicker, as up to five knights can come down at
once, and some of them will approach Raphael from behind.

       The third segment does not introduce any new elements (and their is no
fighting the boss knight at the end), but it does step up the tempo of the
battle much faster than before.

--> A mini-game starts as soon as you walk in

 ===========================
 R09 - Sneaking and Entering
 ===========================
 [RO9]

       This mission is very similar to mini-game #02, where Phantom R was
running and then hiding behind statues. Much like that game, Phantom R will
sneak along and attempt to hide behind coloured plants, with you needing to
press the correct colour from the box of four colours below. Unlike mini-game
#02, however, action moves along far slower. Additionally, you are given much
less leeway for your timing with pressing the colours: you need to be right in
front of the plant before pressing the button. Even still, do not press the
colour as soon as you walk in front of the plant - give it a split-second and
then press the colour, as this seems to work better.

       You will also have plants occasionally close together. If the plants are
nearly hugging each other, you pretty much need to consecutively hit the two
colours to get it correctly. If they have even a minor amount of space between
them, wait for Raphael to walk to the next plant instead.

       For the first segment, action is not too intense. There are a couple of
closely-placed together pairs of plants as well as a trio near the end, but
nothing much. You should attempt to build up your gauge here.

       When it comes to the second plant, action does not speed up at all, but
the number of plants comes more numerously, quickly after each other, with more
bunches of plants put together.

       The third and final segment sports a lot of plants very close together,
with the final five almost completely clumped together with only a very tiny
break in the action between the second and the third.

                        number, and it will reverse directions, going from

 =============================
 R10 - Charlie Takes the Field
 =============================
 [R10]

       This is another tap-the-screen game with occasional uses of the stylus
to drag it up. Here, you and Charlie will kick a ball back and forth throughout
the mini-game. When Charlie kicks the ball at you, you must tap it once the ball
approaches you (the circle shrinking around the A button gives a second
indicator as well). In addition, Charlie will sometimes kick the ball off to the
side so that it bounces off a post and to Phantom R - be prepared for this, as
the ball takes slightly longer to get to you, so do not let it throw off your
timing. Watching the ball itself instead of simply trying to get into a rhythm
can be helpful.

       Occasionally, Charlie will also kick the ball into the air. When he does
this, you should have plenty of time to respond in favour by dragging the stylus
up when he does this (the button prompt changes to an upward-pointing arrow at
this time as well).

       The first segment, as always, is the easiest, with Charlie's moves a bit
sluggish than the next two segments.

       In the second segment, Charlie will take to kicking fast-balls at
Phantom R. Right before he does this, an exclamation mark will appear on his
head (but without the sound from Metal Gear Solid), so quickly get ready to tap
the touch screen with your stylus. He will follow this up with a second
consecutive quick in short order to return your own kick.

       Nothing new is introduced in the third segment, though it appears
Charlie 'might' get more aggressive with more fast-kicks.

 =============================
 R11 - Onward Through the Dark
 =============================
 [R11]

       This is a close replay of mini-game #03, Le Getaway, in that Raphael in
the guise of Phantom R will automatically dash along a narrow, linear path,
while you need to press buttons in timing. Specifically, this time around, you
need to press the A button just as soon as Raphael lands on red lights for him
to bounce off the stone ledges successfully to the next one, plus you get to
watch his rad acrobatics in the meantime. There are no tricks like sliding
through the walls, going up rooftops, or sliding down ziplines unlike #03.

       The first segment moves normally, but the action starts off pretty
quickly, so watch out for the first red light. As soon as the red lights
disappear and yellow lights show up, you can stop tapping A as the yellow lights
signify intermission. You are given some leeway with your jumping in this part
of the mini-game.

       For the second segment, you need to be a bit more precise in your
timing, specifically about a quarter-second before landing, as the stone blocks
will collapse under Raphael's weight if you do not jump off in time again. Once
more, non-red lights indicate the end of the second segment, giving you an
intermission.

       Little changes with the third segment except that it speeds up a tad.

            side (5 medals)

 ========================
 R12 - Napoleon's Hideout
 ========================
 [R12]

       This is a repeat of R04, Battle Diabolique. Once more, the knights will
attack Raphael, either from the left side or from the right. When they come from
the right, hit the A button for Phantom R to fend them off with a punch to the
right, and use the Left button on the D-Pad to strike a foe coming from the left
side. Similarly, button-mashing the A and Left buttons seems to work, but keep
it smart: if two enemies come down, one from each side, and the one from the
right side came first, button mash the A button until that Knight is warded off,
then button mash the Left button.

       Mini-game #12 is, in essence, a sped-up version of #04, so you will
probably have more misses later on. Building up your gauge in the early portion
is critical, no matter if you are merely trying to scrape by to continue or to
get an A.

       In the first segment, the enemies come one at a time from each side, but
slowly speed up to a couple at a time from each side, and speed up to many
coming from both sides about halfway through the segment.

       For the second segment, the pace of the Diabolique's swarming Phantom R
will increase significantly. At the end of this segment, Napoleon will try to
attack Phantom R, so you need to button mash both the A and Left buttons quickly
together to take him on.

       The third and final segment is more of the same, but is sped up to
overkill on the parts of the Knights coming at you. You should hopefully have
filled up your Rhythm Gauge sufficiently enough to deal with the many misses you
will probably accumulate in this segment. As with the second segment, the third
segment ends with Napoleon attacking you, so once more button mash D-Pad Left
and the A button.

 ====================
 R13 - Samba Carnival
 ====================
 [R13]

       Unlike prior mini-games, Samba Carnival is not broken up into three
segments: rather, it is a single, continuous segment, and is also a reference to
Sega's Samba de Amigo, a prior rhythm game released in 1999.

       Throughout the period of the mini-game, Phantom R holds two macaras,
which he shakes, sending out musical notes at six rings. When a note goes INTO a
ring, you need to press the corresponding button to the ring to extinguish the
note - pressing the button too early will of course lessen your Rhythm Gauge.
The left three rings correspond to the Up, Left and Down buttons, while the
right three rings corresond to X, A, and B.

       Although Raphael will start out by sending notes in matched pairs (X and
Up, A and Left, B and Down), action will quickly break from this as it goes to
unmatched pairs, sending notes to a single ring, and so forth. Very
occasionally, several black-and-red notes will be sent in quick succession to
two rings - you can button mash basically when these come out to quickly get rid
of the notes.

       Throughout the mini-game, you will also be prompted to tilt your 3DS
unit to activate the gyroscope sensor. When it asks you to tilt left or right,
then tilt your 3DS left or right. However, if it asks you to tilt backwards, you
need to tilt the 3DS screen away from you, NOT towards you. The game says to
place your 3DS on a flat unit at the start of the mini-game: this is not
required, but if the tilting does not work, placing it on a flat surface will
help to recalibrate the gyro sensor.

 =======================
 R14 - Hurry Up and Wait
 =======================
 [R14]

       In this minigame, you will be training to become a waiter, with the
three 'motions' of the game being to bow, bring out a champagne glass or
bringing out a bottle of wine. To do these actions, you need to slide your
stylus down, up or left in accordance with the tempo of the game. The maitre d'e
will shout at you to either go 'down', 'up', or 'left', so you can base your
actions either off of him or the guidering around the button prompt.

       One way to make this a lot easier on you is just to keep your stylus on
the screen at the start, and then stretch it across the screen once you are
prompted to draw it in a specific direction. This way, you do not need to rush
to put your stylus on the screen and can draw right off the bat.

       The first segment is a fairly basic training segment, as you go through
a routine of downs, then a routine of ups, and a routine of lefts before they
get mixed up at the end.

       For the second segment, the directions you must draw are mixed up right
at the start, and action moves quicker.

       The tempo of the mini-game picks up pace in the third segment with
multiple back-to-back stylus actions with no real break in between, so be
prepared as always.

         some new dialogue while dressed up as a waiter if you wished to chat
         with anybody)

 ====================
 R15 - Phantom Fondue
 ====================
 [R15]

       You play as your dog Fondue in this game. In the background, numerous
Parisian cops will exit from the back right door, and run left off-screen. A few
seconds later, they will have looped around to the front end of the screen,
running from left to right. While they scoot by going right, bite them on their
rear ends by pressing the A button. The timing may take a little to get used to,
as you need to allow them to walk into the open space a bit first before biting
them. With the larger guards that occasionally dash by, you need to press and
then hold A to bite onto them and then hold onto them until a gauge fills up, at
which point Fondue automatically lets them go.

       The first segment moves fairly slowly, with only three policemen at a
time, and occasionally a large police guard. Although the guards start off</pre><pre id="faqspan-2">
evenly spaced, they will have different spans of time between one another by the
end.

       The second segment speeds up noticeably, and far more guards come out at
a time - up to six at once. Furthermore, the heavy guards can come at the tail
end of a batch of six cops.

       The third segment increases in speed a bit more, but not by much, with
no new elements thrown into play.

 ===========================
 R16 - Throwdown with Alfred
 ===========================
 [R16]

       Alfred the bodyguard/butler will strike Raphael either with his left,
right or both hands in this mini-game. For most of the time, he will use one
hand. When he does, a prompt will appear on-screen to tilt either to the left or
the right, but you must wait until right before he throws his punch for it to
count. Wait for the guide-ring to hit red status before tilting for it to be
most effective - in ALL cases, you MUST wait until Alfred has grunted before you
dodge.

       From time to time, Alfred will also bring his hands together in a big
punch. When he does this, you need to tilt forward so that your top screen moves
away from you and your bottom screen towards you to execute this successfully.

       During the first segment, he goes very consistent with the timing in
between punches, and the amount of time he waits before striking on each left
and right punch is always the same. There is only a couple of times where he
will strike to either the left or the right twice in a row.

       For the second segment, Alfred spices things up dramatically, as he will
move faster, and he can wait either longer or shorter before punching you after
the tilt prompt appears on screen. He will also strike two or more times in a
row to either side often.

       With the final segment, Alfred speeds up further, as he will link
several punches in a row, so you need to tilt, get back into centre position,
see which side to tilt to again, and tilt in that direction before returning to
centre position once more and repeating.

 ============================
 R17 - Phantom from the Opera
 ============================
 [R17]

       This is another 'hopping' mini-game much like Le Getaway and Onward
through the Dark, but things go a little differently here. For one, you are
jumping on lamps. When you do this, you need to let Phantom R land a little bit
on the lamp first before hitting a button - if you act too early, you will get a
harsh, but he will bounce off perfectly if you give him just a little time to
land on a lamp first.

       When you see a red lamp, press the A button to jump off it. When you see
a blue lamp, press the B button to jump off it. When lamps change colours,
transitioning from red to blue or blue to red, the last lamp of the first colour
and the first lamp of the second colour have very little distance between each
other, so you must press the two buttons in quick succession.

       Phantom R will also make the occasional jump into the air. When he does
this, you cannot see the lamp until right before he lands, so keep an eye on the
guide-ring tightening around the lamp to know when to time your button push.

       The first segment starts off rather easily. You will have to contend
with both red and blue lamps, but they do not change very often, nor do you have
very many jumps. Once you hit a lamp that is neither red or blue, you get your
intermission.

       During the second segment, a lot more high jumps come up close, so you
will need to keep a good eye on the guide-ring to know exactly when to press
your button prompt as Phantom R lands back down on a lamp, as these landings are
likely to be the ones you mess up most without any visual spotting of a lamp
until just before you land.

       With the last segment of the mini-game, you do not get as much jumping.
However, the colours of the lamp alternate quickly, so you will need to do a lot
of 'quick-hopping' with the very short distance between two lamps as they change
colours.

 ==========================
 R18 - Rematch with Charlie
 ==========================
 [R18]

       This fight is fairly similar to Mini-game #10, your first bout with
Charlie, but like with several of the recent mini-game repeats, it does have its
formula mixed up. Once more, when Charlie kicks the ball at you, you must tap it
once the ball approaches you (the circle shrinking around the A button gives a
second indicator as well). There is no fence post for Charlie to kick the ball
off this time - he either kicks it straight to you or into the air. Watching the
ball itself instead of simply trying to get into a rhythm can again be helpful.
Also, from time to time, he still has the ! mark appear above his head which is
accompanied by a fast kick of his ball.

       As just mentioned, occasionally, Charlie will also kick the ball into
the air. When he does this, you should have plenty of time to respond in favour
by dragging the stylus up when he does this (the button prompt changes to an
upward-pointing arrow at this time as well).

       In his first segment, Charlie will do fast kicks several times. Recall
that he has the ! mark appear above his head right before he does this, and that
if you kick the ball back successfully, you should expect a second quick return
before going back to normal speed, though he does not always this. At the end of
this segment, Charlie will end off with a high kick, so return it with your own
high kick by drawing the stylus up on the touch screen.

       The second segment does not differ much from the first, though he will
have two kicks instead of one, Charlie's second high kick capping off the middle
segment of the battle.

       Coming into the third is when the game gets annoying, as the angle of
the match will switch around to the side with Phantom R and Charlie becoming
smaller at the extreme ends of the angle view, and pigeons will fly across part
of the time, further wrecking your view. It will then tilt towards Charlie's
back, then back to the side angle, and finally back to Phantom R's back. You may
want to time your kicks based off the guide-ring during this period instead of
watching the ball itself.

 ====================
 R19 - Cheering Marie
 ====================
 [R19]

       This is a repeat of the very first mini-game you ever did. Much as
before, for each dance movement, the other two performers will move first, then
Phantom R. An arrow that shows up on-screen will indicate which direction
Phantom R must move in (if you watch the other two dancers as well, they will
also move in the direction you must move). When Phantom R moves (and not prior),
you need to draw a stylus across the touch screen in the direction the arrow
indicates.

       You do not need to draw directly on the specific arrow on the touch-
screen. Just dragging it across any section of the touch screen is fine. You can
also put and hold your stylus on the screen to start, and then drag it when it
is your turn.

       The first segment goes fairly steady, but it will throw a couple of fast
curves at you at the end. All four cardinal directions and the clockwise spin
are all used here.

       You will get a lot more super-fast dance moves and a few slow ones in
the second segment, so watch out for them when they happen and be sure to have
your trigger-thumb ready to draw quickly if need be.

 R20 - Mega-Rhythm Kitchen
 =========================
 [R20]

       Mega-Rhythm Kitchen is pretty much like mini-game #06, Rhythm Kitchen,
except it does not give you a learning curve, going straight into fast action.

       Your points (and rhythm gauge) both fill up (and fall in the case of the
gauge) both on holding the ingredient while it is being cooked, and then tossing
it off.

       In the first segment, the chef will throw to you varying ingredients
from the get-go, both asparagus, onions, and long-cooking meat.

       In the second segment, the chef will speed up the ingredients he throws
out. You need to be VERY quick at some points, as he will throw out another
ingredient as soon as you finish cooking one, so you need to toss your current
piece to the side and then bring your stylus down on the screen again. My
recommendation is not to bring your stylus back to one point - rather, quickly
draw it to the right, lift it off the screen, then put it right back down where
you took it off.

       The third and final segment is more of the same of the second, with the
chef sometimes throwing multiple pieces out together in rapid succession.

 =====================
 R21 - Operation: Love
 =====================
 [R21]

       Unlike most games, mini-game #21 does not have any sounds or music to
set the rhythm, or any good on-screen prompt. You will basically have to keep an
eye on the guide-ring shrinking around the Control Pad and A button. Two strings
will go to the dogs, the one for Fondue on the left side, the one for the Poodle
on the right side. These can have up to three pieces of food at a time on each
side. To get the dog to eat it, press their respective button once the guide-
ring shrinks down (any D-pad button for Fondue, A for the Poodle). The dogs eat
from the top down, so if there is a piece at the top but not at the bottom for
one of the dogs, it will eat right away and then wait for a bit. You _MUST_ wait
for a dog to land before having him or her jump again.

       If you have problems with the second and third part of the mini-game,
what you can do is constantly hit the Start button to pause every time more food
is brought down to the dogs. Then you can see where food is on the string and
the guide-rings on the top screen, and attempt to get your timing down as a
false jump will also cost you on your Rhythm Gauge.

       During the first segment, each dog gets food one at a time, so you can
focus on the side that gets food. Near the end of the segment, both dogs will
get food at the same time, but the buttons can be pressed at the exact same time
to chomp at the food.

       In the second segment, things will be switched up as one dog may get a
full load of two pieces of bread, while the other one will only get one piece,
either on the top or bottom. Remember that the dogs eat from the top down, so if
a dog has a piece on top, it jumps right away, but if a bread is only on the
bottom, it waits a while to jump. If you are having problems, you may wish to
use the Start-and-pause strategy suggested above.

       For the third segment, the mini-game's difficulty increases
significantly, as you are given a miniscule amount of time to eat three pieces
of bread in a row. When these trio of notes come in, you need to wait for the
centre guide-ring to shrink in very close to the button prompt and then button
mash to get all three. Once more, pressing Start repeatedly may help with
getting your timing down. You will start off with only three to one side and
nothing to the other, but will soon move to putting three on one side and then
up to three on the other.

 R22 - Looting the Louvre Redux
 ==============================
 [R22]

       Mini-game #22 is pretty much the exact same mechanism as mini-game #02,
the first time you visited the Louvre. Phantom R runs along the security
hallways of the Louvre. Every time you come up to a statue which has a tinted
glow around it, you need to press the coloured button on the bottom screen
corresponding to the glow around the statue. Timing is again crucial here, as
you need to wait right until about a moment before getting to the statue before
pressing the button. There are no elements of statues being extremely close
together, as there was with the potted plants in minigame #9, Sneaking and
Entering.

       All three segments play out at pretty much the same speed, and all four
colours will be thrown into the mix right from the get-go at the start.

 R23 - The Faux Phantom R
 ========================
 [R23]

       The Faux Phantom R is, at its core, a Simon Says game. Jerome, the fake
Phantom R, will start off with his two sidekick troupe dancers by doing some
dance moves, which can involve him moving up, down, left, right, doing a spin or
pointing out his finger. He also says the moves out loud - literally, 'up',
'down', 'left', 'right', and then 'shoot' and 'hey' for pointing his finger and
doing a spin respectively.

       Once he is done his sequence, it is passed onto you to copy the exact
moves what he did. If you listened to him or watched his steps, you should know
what sequence of movements to expect. You can also watch the button prompt on
your own screen, but as the game moves on, you have less time in between steps
to move.

       For the four cardinal directions, draw in that direction with the
stylus. For 'shoot', simply tap the screen, and for 'hey', you are drawing
clockwise.

       The first segment will have mostly up, down and shoot movements, with
one circle spin near the end.

       The second segment throws in both left and right arrows as well, and has
a few circle spins throughout the segment.

       Rhythm tempo is drastically sped up for the third tempo, but there are
no new elements introduced otherwise during this final third of the mini-game.
You will repeatedly do 'up-down-up-down-shoot-shoot-shoot' but with the action
getting faster and faster after every repeat of this seven-draw sequence.
However, it will cap off with one last sequence using only a couple of arrows
and mostly Shoots.

   before you can work on the yellow, and ditto for the yellow to work on
   the red. The light above the meter for the green button flashes on the
   occasion. When the light flashes, tap the green button at the same time, and
   continue to tap the button in sequence with the flashing light to get the
   first dial to work. Do the same for the next two buttons, which have lights

 R24 - Trying Tryouts
 ====================
 [R24]

       This is completely identical in set-up to mini-game #7, Moon Princess.
Just as before, there are four strings on the top screen. On the left two
strings, red arrows will come down towards the bottom. When they reach the
bottom, you need to quickly drag the arrow RIGHT for the string to be played.
Blue arrows are on the right two strings, and will need to have the stylus drawn
LEFT to play them. Consecutive arrows will have strings drawn betweem them,
representing the different verses of the melody.

       The best method to play this is to hold your stylus down on the screen
and draw left and right as required, without ever lifting your stylus.

       Trying Tryouts continues to give leeway to the amount of time before a
note reaches the bottom of the screen that you can play it on the violin.
However, if you draw your stylus long before an arrow reaches the bottom of the
strings, you do not get a 'Perfect', but merely only a 'Great' or 'Good'.

       The first segment is fairly straightforward, but it does start off with
a single note all by itself - watch out for this. Notes come in quick succession
following that.

       The second segment does not move any 'faster' then the first. However,
it does bunch notes closer together and has some longer sets so you may want to
pause your game to take a breather in between sets of notes.

       The final segment does come down a bit quicker, but also varies between
very close-together bunches of notes, dispersed notes, and throws lots of three
or four-note sets at you, as well as the occasional single note. It may be
recommended to play in an inside environment not directly exposed to outdoor
light as ghosting on the screen can make it particularly difficult during this
segment to catch the single notes.

       This is another tap and drag-the-stylus mini-game. The dance is broken
up into constant two-step motions. The first step is always to tap the screen,
followed by either Left, Right, or Up, and the occasional Clockwise drawing. You
can tap the screen for the first step and then hold the stylus on the screen,
wait for the guide-ring to shrink on a direction prompt, and then draw in that
direction, with no need to lift your stylus up in between.

       There are no real noticeable differences between the three acts of the
dance - they all appear to move about the same speed with the same amount of
moves in each direction.

 R26 - It's Dog Showtime
 =======================
 [R26]

       This is yet another touch-screen mini-game making use of the stylus.
Unlike some of the previous mini-games, however, there is no tapping action, so
you can keep your stylus down on the touch-screen and then react and draw to the
sequence of the guide-rings shrinking around the button prompts.

       Fondue will only go up, left, and down - there is no right. Up steps
occur only occasionally, with mostly down and left. Down always comes in two or
more in quick succession, while left can be one, two or more at a time, and
sometimes with long breaks between actions.

       The first segment should warm you in, mostly with down actions.

       During the second segment, Phantom R will vary it up with more Left
actions, as well as increasing the speed of the button prompts - not all the
time, but some of the time.

       Play does not change much from the second segment to the third, with the
tempo speeding up some more overall, but no new elements.

 =============================
 R27 - Throwdown with Napoleon
 =============================
 [R27]

       In Throwdown with Napoleon, you get a neat dueling battle with Napoleon.
For the majority of the battle, him and Phantom R will be trading sword blows.
To block his strikes, watch the coloured circle on the lower-left corner. When
it shrinks, tap the block on the lower screen of the respective colour of the
circle - yellow for a yellow circle, blue for a blue circle. These strikes will
usually come in pairs with a little bit of time between strikes, with the
occasional triple strike very close together. Napoleon will also call out the
directions he will swing in order, such as 'up-up-down' right before he actually
attacks.

       At the end of each segment, Napoleon and Phantom R will cross swords
with each other. Here, you must repeatedly tap the big block at the bottom to
push against Napoleon and attempt to overwhelm him.

       For the first segment, the tapping starts off easy, with sets of two
yellows and two blues alternating. Soon into the segment, Napoleon switches it
up to yellow-blue and blue-yellow, but this sequence also repeats itself until
the end of the segment, which is capped off by a tapping battle (if you do not
push him all the way back, this is not a worry, but you do not get as good a
score).

       In the second segment, every set of taps will always alternate colours,
with Napoleon never repeating two strikes of the same time. During this time
period, however, Napoleon also will hit you with three quick strikes in a row.
Wait for the center guide-ring to shrink down almost completely and then quickly
triple-tap the specific colour you are given. Like the first segment, this is
capped off with a tapping battle.

       Things get a bit tricker in the third segment. Napoleon will switch up
his colour-coding of his two-set of tapping, sometimes alternating colours going
from the first tap to the second, and at other times using the same colour for
both taps. Where things get really out of hand is the triple-attacks: these will
reverse colours after each tap, going blue-yellow-blue or yellow-blue-yellow. If
you have extreme difficulty with these, put your 3DS unit down on flat surface
and press Start to pause after you do the first ring, unpause and hit the second
ring, Pause to move your stylus, and then Unpause to hit the last ring. As
always, the final segment and mini-game altogether is capped off with a last
tapping battle.

       Once again, you are basically playing Simon Says. Jerome, the fake
Phantom R, will start off with his two sidekick troupe dancers by doing some
dance moves, which can involve him moving up, down, left, right, doing a spin or

       The first segment starts out at an even pace, but quickly skyrockets in
speed.

       Although the second segment starts off fast as well, Jerome will do a
couple of fake outs with large time spans between moves (although the dance
moves come fast when they do come). He then moves back to multiple moves in
fast-paced succession by the end of the segment.

       Jerome continues to move extremely fast during the third segment, and he
will cap it off with two sequences of up-right-down-left followed by several
'shoots', the second sequence ending off with one last spin.

 R29 - Feel the Magic
 ====================
 [R29]

       R29 is just like R13, Samba Carnival, except intensely jacked up in
difficulty, and played to the rhythm of the Rub Rabbits song from the Feel the
Magic/Rub Rabbits games. Controls still play the same, but frequency of the
notes is far more intense.

       Very occasionally, several black-and-red notes will be sent in quick
succession to two rings - you can button mash basically when these come out to
quickly get rid of the notes.

       Throughout the mini-game, you will also be prompted to tilt your 3DS
unit to activate the gyroscope sensor. When it asks you to tilt left or right,
then tilt your 3DS left or right. However, if it asks you to tilt backwards, you
need to tilt the 3DS top screen away from you, NOT towards you. The game says to
place your 3DS on a flat unit at the start of the mini-game: this is not
required, but if the tilting does not work, placing it on a flat surface will
help to recalibrate the gyro sensor.

 ================================
 R30 - Battle at the Eiffel Tower
 ================================
 [R30]

       This is a repeat of mini-game #08, but sped up of course. As in that
game, throughout the full mini-game, you must wait for the Knights to come down,
who can range between one to six enemies at a time.

       The first segment moves at about as fast as the third segment did from
mini-game #08, and it will throw large batches of enemies at you fairly quickly,
as well as changing the exact speed they come at you from time to time.

       The second segment does not change up much from the first, but there are
a couple of times where you may get four knights, two of them will attack, and
the remaining two will wait about a split-second before rushing at Phantom R.

       The third segment is where it gets ridiculous. It starts out with a bit
of a fake-out, sending three Diaboliques down who will have a very slow guide-
ring, but quickly speeds up the action, routinely throwing out up to five
knights at once. This is also by far the longest segment, and about halfway
through, you will get single Knights that come down and immediately leap at
Phantom R - this is where Pause scumming may come in handy. The third part of
the mini-game is capped off by two sets of six Knights bookending a couple of
groups of twos and singular Knights.

 ========================
 R31 - Gone with the Wind
 ========================
 [R31]

       The game is fairly useless at giving you sufficient directions for how
to play this mini-game, so you may need to play through a couple of times before
you have it down pat. Basically, enemies will come down from above, below, the
left and the right sides, and all directions in-between. In your glider, you
need to shoot soccer balls at them using the A button before they can fire at
you to avoid taking damage. When you get a locked target on a glider, a red
circle will appear around them, while if you are not locked on them, it is
yellow.

       However, just staying in the center position your glider starts off in
will not allow you to target many gliders in time before they fire back at you.
To target them faster, you need to 'tilt' your 3DS unit in the direction each
batch of gliders comes from. This will enable you to get a target on them faster
than remaining in a neutral position, so you can shoot at them before they can
return fire.

       The guide-ring that shrinks around each glider is independent of whether
you have locked onto an enemy or not. One technique you can use is pause
scumming, hitting the Start or Select button, tilting your 3DS unit to where the
glider is (tilt your 3DS screen towards you to move the target cursor up, and
away from you to lower the target cursor), unpause the game, and then pause
again until the circle around a specific glider turns red. The guide-rings have
very little leeway to them in this mini-game, so again, practice will make
perfect with getting the timing orrect on firing your soccer balls.

       The first segment is of course your regular, 'relatively' slow segment.
Most enemies will come in pairs, but you will occasionally get a lone one from
the top, and always a lone one from the bottom.
</pre><pre id="faqspan-3">
       In the second segment, not much changes. About the only thing that I
have noticed is possibly you get more gliders coming down from below.

       The third segment is where it screws things up, as enemies come more
frequently, and swoop in far more quickly, and gliders do not come in pairs all
the time coming from the left and right.

 R32 - Second Helping
 ====================
 [R32]

       This is a repeat of a mini-game from a long time ago, Bon Appétit.
Raphael will throw pieces of meat or garbage at Fondue, either going centre,
left, or right. When he throws meat centre, keep your 3DS unit upright. When he
throws it left, tilt your 3DS left so the left side is facing the ground at an
angle, and vice versa for when Raphael throws a piece to the right. Conversely,
when Raphael is throwing garbage, you want to move to AVOID catching the
garbage.

       Gyroscope tilt controls works a bit slowly, so Fondue will not instantly
move in accordance with the 3DS, so you need to be patient. If you need to move
from left to right or right to left, do not bother centralising your 3DS first -
move from tilt to tilt.

       The first segment should go by fairly easily. However, Raphael will
throw pieces of garbage in right from the start of the match, so be forewarned
about this.

       In the second segment, Raphael speeds up a bit, but not noticably much.
He will cap the segment off with a trick, where he throws down a piece of
garbage down the centre followed by a piece of meat right thereafter.

       For the third segment, be prepared at the start as you will get eight
pieces of meat at a rapid-fire pace before getting a brief breather. Following
this, you will never get as much meat so fast again, but it will still come
pretty quickly, though mixed with junk in an approximately 50-50 ratio.

 R33 - Operation: Power of Love
 ==============================
 [R33]

       Mini-game #33 is a continuation of #21, but the button prompts seem to
be far more forgiving this time than they were then. Once more, you basically
have to keep an eye on the guide-ring shrinking around the Control Pad and A
button. Two strings will go to the dogs, the one for Fondue on the left side,
the one for the Poodle on the right side. These can have up to three pieces of
food at a time on each side. To get the dog to eat it, press their respective
button once the guide-ring shrinks down (any D-pad button for Fondue, A for the
Poodle). The dogs eat from the top down, so if there is a piece at the top but
not at the bottom for one of the dogs, it will eat right away and then wait for
a bit. You _MUST_ wait for a dog to land before having him or her jump again.

       Littered throughout the three segments, you will also get big pieces of
meat coming in, indicated by thicker guide-rings. When you press a button, you
must HOLD the button as well until the meat is all eaten by the respective dog.

       If you have problems with the mini-game, what you can do is constantly
hit the Start button to pause every time more food is brought down to the dogs.
Then you can see where food is on the string and the guide-rings on the top
screen, and attempt to get your timing down as a false jump will also cost you
on your Rhythm Gauge.

       For the first while of the first segment, the pieces of meat will
alternate, with meat being on the top for one dog and on the bottom for the
other, so have one jump then scan over to the other side. This will quickly
change over to one dog having two pieces and the other having only a single
piece of meat, at which point you should move your focus to the dog with two
pieces of meat and press the button for the other dog when you need to. The
segment is capped off by two large pieces of meat for each dog to bite into and
hold on.

       The second segment continues at about the same speed as the first, but
after the first big piece of meat is dropped down, it jumps up in speed
slightly.

       With the final segment, it starts off cramped from the get-go, and this
is where you will need to practice - one dog will have meat on the top of his or
her stick, while the other dog's stick has meat on the middle and centre. Hit
your button for the first dog to eat the top piece, then button mash to get the
two pieces from the other side.

 R34 - To the Manor Borne
 ========================
 [R34]

       The last iteration of this mini-game you did was R22, Looting the Louvre
Redux. Much like then, Raphael as Phantom R runs through the hallways of the
manor, dodging security by hiding behind statues. Every time you come up to a
statue which has a tinted glow around it, you need to press the coloured button
on the bottom screen corresponding to the glow around the statue. Timing is as
always important, as you need to wait right until about a moment before getting
to the statue before pressing the button.

       However, To the Manor Borne also borrows from R9, Sneaking and Entering,
with the hiding behind plants. This borrowing is mainly in the form of putting
statues extremely close together, so you shall have to tap multiple colours
together quickly. There are two degrees of separation here: if they are
extremely close, practically touching each other, you basically need to tap the
two colours one right after the other.

       If, however, there happens to be even a tiny smidgen of space between
statues, you need to wait for Raphael to get back into his running animation and
get to the next statue before tapping the respective colour block on the touch
screen.

       In the first segment, after going through a few statues, Raphael will
slow down for one small portion of the sequence. Keep this in mind so you do not
hand over your touch-screen tapping actions entirely to instinct based on the
normal tempo speed. You will see statues bunched together already here.

       The second segment does not much differ from the third.

       With the onset of the third segment, Raphael will shuffle along a bit
faster at some points. Additionally, there will be far more statues bunched
closely together than there were before.

 ================================
 R35 - Vergier vs. the Chevaliers
 ================================
 [R35]

       In this game, you get to play as Inspector Vergier, and despite the
similarities to some earlier mini-games, the mechanics are quite a little
different. Diabolique knights will come from behind a fountain going either left
or right, indicating which side they will come at Vergier from when the POV
scrolls over to where Vergier is.

       Vergier has guns, however, which he can fire at flash-action speed and
rapid-fire. This is useful, as when fighting the Diaboliques, you do not have
much time to pop a cap in any of them. There is a very specific leeway for when
you can fire at a knight - if you watch the guide-ring, it is pretty much as
soon as the guidering just about touches the button prompt. If you are watching
the knights themselves, just before their feet touch the ground from their
landing to just after they begin to move is the sweet spot for firing at them.

       As with other games of this type, you can attempt to Pause-scum: in
other words, press Start/Select constantly to pause-unpause the game until
action on the top screen is at the point where you can fire at your enemies.

       The first segment starts off fairly vanilla, with a few Knights at a
time. Space your gun shots apart very slightly. After some more knights,
including a set with one from each side at the same time, you get four knights
in a row - the first one is followed by a brief lull, but the next three are so
close together that you should be button mashing the L/R button to take them out
in quick succession. After that, the knights will come from both sides at once
in overwhelming numbers.

       The second segment continues up on the tail end, throwing large numbers
of Diaboliques at you, sometimes from both sides at once.

       Things get far more intense during the third segment, as up to seven
knights all at once will come together from the same side with very, very little
time in between each specific knight. Again, button mashing is needed here.
Nearing the end of the segment, you will get a few pairs of knight coming from
only one side at a time, but they jack up their speed significantly. Following
that, you get an absolute horde of about ten enemies, but you cannot button-mash
straight up: crucially, in twos and threes they are spaced out by a margin of a
second, so you must wait that margin of a second. Afterwards, you get some more
light fare of enemies for a long time yet still, which is finally capped off
with about seven or eight enemies from both sides at the same time.

 =========================
 R36 - To the Eiffel Tower
 =========================
 [R36]

       This mini-game is pretty much a copy of the third mini-game, Le Getaway,
and is almost completely identical in substance, with a couple of additions. The
main one is large Diabolique knights who will sometimes stand in your way after
Phantom R makes a jump - you will have to do a double-jump, hopping off their
hands. The buttom prompts for these should be easy to spot, as they are hovering
in mid-air.

       Other than that, things pretty much remain the same. Phantom R needs to
run a linear path along multiple rooptops, along with some swinging and sliding
action. Phantom R runs automatically, but when you see either an A or B button,
you need to press the button as soon as you pass under the button prompt. You do
not need to hold the B button while sliding.

       Much like many repeats, the first segment is pretty much the same as the
last sequence of Le Getaway, as it throws out all the stops that game had right
from the get-go - B button slides through walls (with A button jumps shortly
thereafter), roop hopping and ziplining. However, the large Diaboliques are
present in the first segment as well.

       At the very end of an otherwise-normal second segment, when Phantom R
lands from a high jump, there will be an A button press near impact but just
short of the ground that you need to watch out for.

       The third and final segment does not introduce anything new or speed
anything up. It also ends off with an A button press just shy of the ground.

 R37 - Chevalier Showdown
 ========================
 [R37]

       Although this mini-game has been done before, the difficulty rate for
this game is jacked up intensely. Phantom R will stand in the centre of a radius
area, with Diaboliques dropping down around him. The order that the Knights drop
down is also the order that they will attack him. This is important, as far as
the guide-rings go: if Raphael is next attacking a Knight that was right next to
the Knight he has just struck, there is a tiny amount of time in between to wait
between strikes. However, if a Knight is behind him, you need to mash the button
right away as Phantom R must turn around to hit the Knight. Furthermore, this
game divies the Diaboliques into two colours - red Knights must be struck using
the A button, blue knights using the B button.

       During the first segment, the Knights will drop down in pairs of two,
from differing colours. Once the guide-ring appears, mash the button
corresponding to the FIRST colour pair to appear, and once they are taken out
alternate to the opposite button.

       In the second segment, things get switched up a bit. Sometimes the pairs
will not land to each other, but they will still land blue-blue-red-red or red-
red-blue-blue and attack in the same order, so continue to focus on one button
and then switch to the opposite. You will occasionally get a trio of the same
colour, or three of the same colour followed by one of the opposite, or one of
one colour followed by three of the other.

       Right at the very beginning of the third segment is what you might
expect the natural evolution of this game: enemies will drop in blue-red-red-
blue order, where you need to first hit B, then A multiple times, and then B
again in order to fend off all the Diaboliques. It will then alternate between
3-1, 2-2, and 1-2-1 throughout, along with some lone pairs and then some 1-1's
as well. Once you get pairs at the end of the third segment with red-blue or
blue-red, you know you are near the end. The final segment is capped off with
six knights, three blues followed by three reds.

 =========================
 R38 - The True Chevaliers
 =========================
 [R38]

       In this mini-game, you need to fend off robot enemies. What is somewhat
unique about this mini-game relative to the past ones is that you play as
Phantom R, Charlie and Vergiers, though not all at once - the action splits in
three with a segment for each.

       When taking the Chevaliers Diabolique on as Phantom R, keep in mind that
they will land close to Phantom R, and then strike him _after_ they lift their
arms up, much like the Phantom R mini-games against the regular Diabolique
knights. They are slow to move in, lumbering over Raphael, so the timing for
striking them using the A button is a little different than what you may be used
to. Unlike with prior mini-games, Phantom R does not have any 'lag time' in
between pressing A and striking the Chevaliers, so hit the A button pretty much
as soon as the guide-ring is right aligned with the A button prompt, and not
earlier.

       Things get a lot more difficult for Charlie's side, as Charlie must
strike the Chevaliers NOT when they land on the ground, but rather when they
take off, moving through the air towards Charlie. There are points where more
than one Chevalier will come in very close together, so you need to double-tap
the A button quickly. Charlie's segment can be particularly difficult to pull
off, however, as the soccer ball needs to return to Charlie before Charlie can
kick the ball out again, so you will need to practice a lot to get the timing
down perfectly - the closer the Chevalier is to Charlie (but before the point-
of-no-return) before Charlie hits the ball, the less the soccer ball has to
travel back to Charlie.

       Vergiers' section greatly resembles his own mini-game in minigame 35, as
he stays far away from the action, dual-wielding guns. The controls for him are
the same - L to shoot to the left side, R to shoot to the right side. Vergiers'
parts start out the same as in his mini-game: a scene where Chevaliers will run
out either left or right from in the background, which shows you from which side
the robots will be running at Vergiers', in what numbers, and at what times.
Just like before, you can shoot the robots pretty much just before they touch
the ground to about just after their landing to take them down (with green smoke
as the indicator that they are down for the count).

       The first segment will go on for six parts, shifting from Phantom R, to
Charlie, to Vergiers, back to Phantom R, to Charlie again and then again to
Vergiers.

       The second segment does seven parts instead of six, beginning and ending
with Phantom R. It also speeds up very slightly, but mostly plays tricks with
its rhythm for the most part, perhaps spacing out the tempo for a half-second
here, crunching together the tempo here, or throwing overlapping enemies at
Vergiers.

       For the final segment, the rotation of characters gets mixed up, going
Phantom R - Vergiers - Charlie - Phantom R - Vergiers - Charlie - Phantom R -
Vergiers - Phantom R - Charlie - Vergiers - Phantom R - Charlie - Vergiers -
Phantom R - Charlie - Vergiers - Phantom R and starting with the fourth Phantom
R, the rotations get extremely short, with only a few Diaboliques to fend off
each rotation, and beginning to speed up going along, capping with five
Diaboliques at once against Phantom R.

 R39 - En Garde, Jean-François
 =============================
 [R39]

       In this mini-game, Jean-François is dressed up in a giant mecha suit. He
will summon crystals of different colours above him, and then send these
crystals at Phantom R. To defeat Jean-François, you must survive the three
segments by deflecting the crystals at him. There is no button prompt in this
game, so you will have to look at the crystals themselves and wait until just
before they hit Phantom R to respond. To deflect them, you need to draw the
stylus on the touch screen against the direction that these crystals come from.

       Orange crystals come from above, purple crystals from the left, yellow
crystals from the right, green crystals from the upper left, and blue crystals
from the upper right. Additionally, the crystals will attack Phantom R in the
order they first show up around Jean-François' suit. Fortunately, the mini-game
is fairly lenient with misses on crystals that hit you.

       During the first segment, Jean-François starts off with only attacks
from up, but slowly adds in attacks from the left and right.

       Jean-François throws in both up-left and up-right attacks for the second
segment (green and blue crystals respectively). Additionally, the rhythm of the
crystals will be thrown off from time to time, with short and long spaces
between the crystals coming at Phantom R.

       In the final segment of the mini-game, Jean-François will start bringing
out all five colour crystals at once more often. When he does this, the purple
and yellow, which always come out last, will often have two crystals each, so
watch out for these and draw left twice and then right twice to push the
crystals back. Once there is a lull period, that means the segment and game is
over.

 R40 - Through the Hanging Gardens
 =================================
 [R40]

       This is another hopping mini-game like several prior games that you have
done, and this time there are no Chevaliers Diabolique or the like to interfere
- it is simple straight-forward action as well with no high jumps out of the
plane of view, like the one mini-game in the Paris Opera.

       Where it does differ, however, is that both Phantom R and Fondue are
jumping at the same time in this mini-game. Phantom R jumps off blocks that have
a red light, while Fondue jumps off blocks with a blue light. Sometimes the pair
will have blocks right next to other, but at other points one character will
take a high jump and only land after the other has gone through two or three
extra blocks.

       The game is probably wanting you to press the D-Pad for Phantom R only
when he hits his lights, and the A button for Fondue only for his lights.
However, it does NOT penalise you for hitting a jump button when the character
is still in mid-air. Combined with the fact that Phantom R and Fondue have the
exact same timing for jumping off blocks when on ordered pairs, and you could
reasonably ignore the parts where a block is missing for a character and just
continue to hit the D-Pad and A button at the same time regardless.

       The first segment starts off slightly difficult, as Fondue only hits
about every third block relative to Phantom R. However, they hit a lot more
pairs of blocks together later on in the segment.

       No new elements are thrown into play in the second part of the game.
However, there are far more one-blocks where you jump with only Phantom R or
Fondue, and action switches up often, alternating between who jumps, and moving
back and forth between paired blocks.

       In the third segment, the action becomes perhaps a wee bit quicker with
shorter spaces between the blocks, but the main difference is that it throws a
lot more block changes, and is fairly long compared to the first two segments.

 R41 - Showdown with Napoleon
 ============================
 [R41]

       This is a repeat of Throwdown with Napoleon. As before, to block his
strikes with the sword, watch the coloured circle on the lower-left corner. When
it shrinks, tap the block on the lower screen of the respective colour of the
circle - yellow for a yellow circle, blue for a blue circle.

       In the first segment, Napoleon tends towards doing one up action, one
down action, followed by three actions in quick succession, alternating colours
at end going yellow-yellow-blue or blue-blue-yellow. At the end of the segment,
a brief scene of Napoleon's face will show up before the tapping battle where
you must tap as many times as you can in short order to overwhelm Napoleon's
defenses by pushing his blade back towards him.

       Napoleon switches up his three-swings in the second segment, as instead
of doing two-one, he will do one-one-one, going blue-yellow-blue or yellow-blue
-yellow. At the end, he enters another tapping battle with Phantom R.

       Things speed up a little bit during the third segment. For about the
first half, Napoleon's trio-attacks will be yellow-yellow-blue or blue-blue-
yellow, and he will sometimes follow them up with a quick extra swing right
thereafter. About halfway through the third part, he changes to yellow-blue-
yellow and blue-yellow-blue.

 R42 - Melody of Hope
 ====================
 [R42]

       This is a continuation of Moon Princess and Trying Tryouts. As always,
there are four strings on the top screen. On the left two strings, red arrows
will come down towards the bottom. When they reach the bottom, you need to
quickly drag the arrow RIGHT for the string to be played. Blue arrows are on the
right two strings, and will need to have the stylus drawn LEFT to play them.
Consecutive arrows will have strings drawn betweem them, representing the
different verses of the melody.

       The best method to play this is to hold your stylus down on the screen
and draw left and right as required, without ever lifting your stylus.

       The first segment comes pretty fast as soon as the game starts, so watch
out for it. There will be some spacing of notes, with some of them coming in
quick succession followed by larger time lengths between notes.

       The second segment is much, much easier. It starts off with a single
note going left, has a few more single notes interspersed throughout the
segment, and is mainly composed of sets of three fast notes. It is also fairly
short.

       The third segment becomes insane at some points, as you will get long
stretches of notes that stretch and strain, going from fairly spaced out notes
and moving quickly to very bunched up notes before going back to spaced out
notes again. This occurs often throughout the third segment, so when you have
notes that are far apart, do not expect it to last.

 ================
 R43 - Mastermind
 ================
 [R43]

       This is a replay of the very first mini-game. Once more, Phantom R
dances in a troupe with two other people. For each dance movement, the other two
performers will move first, then Phantom R. An arrow that shows up on-screen
will indicate which direction Phantom R must move in (if you watch the other two
dancers as well, they will also move in the direction you must move). When
Phantom R moves (and not prior), you need to draw a stylus across the touch
screen in the direction the arrow indicates.

       The first segment starts off at an easygoing speed, but throws several
clockwise drawing moves at you. It caps off with a fast beat with a drawing in
each of the four cardinal directions.

       Mastermind's rhythm gets a bit tricker for the second part. While things
start off going slow, it will throw a couple of double-step moves at you: when
it does this, it will show you the arrow direction to draw for the first step,
then the arrow for the second step. You do not have to lift your stylus up when
this happens - you can draw the stylus in one direction until it registers, then
draw it in the second direction. It then caps off after this with four fast
steps in the four cardinal directions.

       You will get uneven rhythm to the steps starting off the third segment,
as the beat changes every step. Shortly into the final third, you will get
multiple double-steps, ended off by about ten fast steps. The game will fake you
out by making it look like the mini-game is over, but you will have one last up
-draw to do before it finally truly ends.

   the bottom-most button again, then the left button, then the top button,
   capped off by the right-most button

 =============================
 R44 - Flight from the Gardens
 =============================
 [R44]

       This is a repeat of Through the Hanging Gardens, mini-game #40, but with
a couple of switch-ups. First, both Fondue and Phantom R have blocks with red
glows this time. Much like before, sometimes the pair will have blocks right
next to other, but at other points one character will take a high jump and only
land after the other has gone through two or three extra blocks.

       Where things differ is that Fondue sometimes will land on blue +-shaped
blocks, which are bookended by a jump for Phantom R both right before and after
Fondue's jump. The timing for these three jumps differ from the rest of the
jumps, as they come together in quick succession, so you need to be ready for
them when they come up. You also need to be slightly more flight-feeted with the
blue blocks - the timing for jumps seems to be a fraction of a second earlier
than for when you jump after landing onto the red blocks.

       As suggested in the overview for Through the Hanging Gardens, you could
reasonably ignore the parts where a block is missing for a character and just
continue to hit the D-Pad and A button at the same time regardless. However, you
will still need to adjust your timing for the blue blocks when they come up.

       The first segment starts right off with several blue blocks, and keeps
them coming until the end.

       In the second segment, you get a reprieve from the blue blocks for the
first half and a bit, but blue blocks come towards the end.

       For the third and final segments, the blue blocks are strewn all
throughout again, but are fairly evenly spaced out. Watch out, however, as there
is one blue block near the end that Phantom R, not Fondue, steps on. Shortly
after that, following a long jump for both characters, you will have a few more
locks and that is that.

waiter,  with the three 'motions' of the game being to bow, bring out a
champagne glass or bringing out a bottle of wine. To do these actions, you need
to slide your stylus down, up or left in accordance with the tempo of the game.
The maitre d'e will shout at you to either go 'down', 'up', or 'left', so you
can base your actions either off of him or the guidering around the button
prompt.

       As always, to make life easier, you may just keep your stylus on
the screen at the start, and then stretch it across the screen once you are
prompted to draw it in a specific direction. This way, you do not need to rush
to put your stylus on the screen and can draw right off the bat.

       No trickiness is abound in the first segment, but you will get a couple

       No new elements are introduced either in the second segment, though it

 [R46]

       Gaston starts off the first segment with a fairly easy rhythm to get
accomodated to of left-right-left-right with the occasional forward tilt
interspersed. He speeds up a bit near the end, with three guide-rings
overlapping closely, and caps off with one massive frontal assault.

       He starts the second segment going fairly slowly, and keeps the
easygoing pace for a while, before finishing off by having a rapid burst of
tilts in succession followed up by another big frontal assault.

       During the course of the third segment, there will be a couple of tricky
times where he will strike in one direction, then quickly follow up with a front
assault, capped off by a strike in the opposite direction. You will also get a
lot of two or three-packs of tilts which have little breaks in between each set.
Finally, Gaston caps off again with another big front hit.

 R47 - The Last Dance
 ====================
 [R47]

       The game caps off full circle, with the last game being a repeat of the
first rhythm game, making it another dance performance with two Phantom R
doppelgangers. For each dance movement, the other two performers will move
first, then Phantom R. An arrow that shows up on-screen will indicate which
direction Phantom R must move in (if you watch the other two dancers as well,
they will also move in the direction you must move). When Phantom R moves (and
not prior), you need to draw a stylus across the touch screen in the direction
the arrow indicates.
</pre><pre id="faqspan-4">
       The first segment throws mostly slow dance moves at you, but
intersperses at random fast dance moves.

       Continuing on into the second segment is the interlacing of a couple of
fast moves at random. About halfway through the segment, there will also be a
quick double-step move, of Up followed by a clockwise draw. The arrow will
indicate up and then turn to clockwise. You can just draw the first move with
your stylus and then move clockwise, without lifting your stylus.

       The final part of the mini-game throws another double-step again about
halfway through, going from Right to a spin with the clockwise drawing. It ends
off with one final spin.

POST-ENDING
-----------
       Following the ending, there are a few things you can still do. If you
missed any Phantom Notes throughout the game that are permanently missable, you
can go to the Flea Market and enter the right shop and use some medals to buy
the Phantom Notes. Get the remaining Notes that are on the Paris map and you can
unlock the first of three bonus chapters, Meeting Fondue.

       Complete the Master Instrument at Bernard's shop at the Flea Market
(refer to this guide's Appendice - > Sounds section for more details) to get the
second bonus chapter, Marie's Test.

       The third and final bonus chapter, Family Ties, is gotten by getting an
A rank on all 49 previous Rhythm Games.

       The three bonus chapters, once each of them have been gained, can be
accessed and played through by going to your phone icon on the upper-right
corner of the lower screen, going Gallery -> Story. Each of them also has a
Rhythm Game to go along with the chapter.

 ==========================
 R48 - Fondue to the Rescue
 ==========================
 [R48]

       The content of this game is fairly identical to R18 from the game,
Phantom Fondue. Again you play as Fondue here.

       The first segment of the rhythm game moves along at a fairly smooth
pace. You will get up to three guards coming out, with the guards occasionally
spaced out at an uneven pace, as well as a fat guard every once in a while.

       Things speed up noticably in the second segment, with the guards coming
out far more quickly, and up to four guards at a time, with more fat gurads as
well (and single fat guards interspersed throughout).

       Little changes for the third segment from the second segment - it seems
to be just a longer version of the second with no increase in the rhythm speed.

 ===================
 R49 - Phantom Notes
 ===================
 [R49]

       This is the final violin-playing mini-game for Marie. As always,
there are four strings on the top screen.

       The first segment is short and sweet, with no tricky segments. All the
notes are fairly evenly spaced apart.

       Your second segment will be far longer than the first, and throughout
there will be the occasional set of three to five notes in quick succession.

       The final segment is also very short like the first, though it will
throw in a couple of quick sets of notes as well.

 =================
 R50 - Family Ties
 =================
 [R50]

       The closest analogue to this rhythm game is R38, The True Chevaliers, in
which you controlled Phantom R, Charlie and Vergiers to fend off Chevaliers
throughout the mini-game. You do not get Phantom R here, but Charlie and
Vergiers will alternate action between each other.

       Much like in mini-game #38 all the way back, Charlie must once more
strike the Chevaliers NOT when they land on the ground, but rather when they
take off, moving through the air towards Charlie.

       The first segment starts off with Vergiers, and moves hideously fast as
it alternates between Vergiers and Charlie (as can be expected of a rhythm game
you can only access after A-ranking the first 49). Vergiers will start with
enemies swarming from both sides to start, then only from one side the next few
sessions he gets, and then back to both sides again. Throughout the entire
segment, however, enemies come together with very little time to fire Vergiers'
gun and Charlie's soccer ball in between.

       The second segment does not noticeably move _faster_. However, it
switches up between Vergiers and Charlie several times a minute, giving Charlie
one enemy and Vergiers only a couple of enemies in just a few seconds and then
switching to larger waves.

       You will get more of this abrupt switching around during the third
segment spliced with larger waves, but nothing new in game elements or speeding
up of gameplay.

--> Move from wherever you are to Place Henri-Mondor. The following sound discs,
   much like every other Sound Disc, only show up when you beat their
   respective rhythm games (Sound Disc #51 automatically shows up saving after
   the ending).

Place Henri-Mondor
------------------

--> Examine: Red box thing at the back (THE LAST DANCE/Sound Disc #47)

--> Move: West four times and south twice towards Champ de Mars

--> Move: East once and west once towards Crash Site

       The following Sound Discs are not mentioned in this walkthrough due to
my not knowing the exact locations on the background to click. If you know,
please send me an email (see the very bottom of this guide for my email)!

       #29 - Feel the Magic - Les Invalides
       #33 - Operation: Power of Love - The Market

       When scanning for Phantom Notes in the background, you need to tap

wait too long to find another piece, the first one will disappear, so you need
to tap the spot again. Once all five have been tapped, you will get your
Phantom Note.

       Some Phantom Notes in places that can be visited early will not appear
until later chapters.

[SOUN]

       Throughout the game, you can talk to people or tap objects in the
background which will give you sounds for a Sound Recorder. Twenty of these
sixty sounds can be used while in Bernard's shop to allow him to construct a
'master instrument'. Completion of the Master Instrument gives you the first of
three bonus chapters, 'Meeting Fondue'.

       Some of these sounds I _believe_ can be missed, in particular the Palace
of Versailles' ones. However, NONE of the sounds required for the Master
Instrument are missable.

       To see the sounds you must play for the Master Instrument, scroll down
past the general locations list.

[DISC]

       Every time you defeat one of the mini-games in Rhythm Thief (regardless
of rank), a Sound Disc is secreted away in an area on the main Paris map. When
you obtain the Sound Disc, you can play it from your gallery and it runs the
music that plays during that particular rhythm game.

       If you have not defeated a particular optional rhythm game, the Sound
Disc for that game will NOT appear until you have defeated the game.

       Also of note is that there are a few Sound Discs that do not show up
until long after you have defeated their respective rhythm games. I have noted
these to the best of my ability. There are a few Sound Discs that simply do not
have the locations they show up in be accessible until later in the game - for
example, Sound Disc #9 is found in Behind Les Invalides, which is not accessible
until Chapter Five.

       Not a single sound disc is missable in game. None of the discs are in
the Palace of Versailles or on the inside of the Paris Opéra (there are two
outside, which is on the main map for the entire game after you first visit).

       In the below locations list, in addition to listing where you can find
the Sound Disc (and the chapter you will find the Sound Disc in if it does not
immediately show up), the approximate pinpoint spot on the background of the
particular location to find it is also given.

[FAQS]

Q: How does the Rhythm Gauge and ratings work?

A: Throughout each rhythm game, you need to successfully pull off whatever moves
  the game has you do, whether it be dancing, hiding, playing a violin, etc.
  A Perfect, Great, or Good will increase both your Score and your Rhythm
  Gauge, while a Harsh, which is a failed/missed move, will decrease your
  Rhythm Gauge.

  Depending on the game, a Harsh can take out a small chunk of your Gauge, but
  usually it takes out a very big chunk, sometimes dropping you several Ranks.

  If your Gauge drops to E and then to an 'F', you lose the game and have to
  replay it.

Q: I got an A ranking but it is not replacing my earlier ranking of E-B. Why?

A: Your rank will not displace a lower rank unless you also get a better _score_
  than your prior score. Because the game gives you more points the longer you
  can string together a successful chain of moves, if you get 99 straight moves
  and then fail the last one and drop to a B, getting 48 straight moves,
  failing 2, and then getting the next 50 straight to end up with an A would
  give you a lower score, and thus not replace the B with an A.

Q: What is the purpose of all the medals that I collect throughout the game?

A: These medals can be used to purchase the cinematics that play throughout the
  game at Auban's shop, along with marathon rhythm games, any optional rhythm
  games you miss throughout the game, and any missed Phantom Notes.

  Additionally, they can also be used to purchase items from Auban's Shop
  during a Rhythm game.

Q: What is available at Auban's Shop during a Rhythm Game?

A: A stamina item, which restores your Rhythm Gauge back up to Rank C when you
  fall to 0.

  A Groove On item, which lets you build up your Rhythm Gauge more quickly.

  A Stay in the Groove item, which decreases the amount of Rhythm Gauge knocked
  off when you get a Harsh rating on a rhythm movement.

  A Full-Contact Challenge, where you can attempt to go through a game without
  taking a single Harsh rating.

Q: I have trouble with such and such game, what can I do?

A: Besides the regular answer of practice, practice, practice, another thing
  you could try out is what I prefer to label 'pause-scumming'. Basically,
  when you pause the game, the action screen for the rhythm game can still be
  seen, so you can see what you need to do next (press A, tap the screen, and
  so forth). You can repeatedly pause and unpause the game so the rings around
  the button prompts shrink at a very slow rate, then do your respective
  action with better timing.

Q: Is there anything missable in this game?

A: A few Phantom Notes are missable, BUT they can be bought from Auban's Shop at
  the end of the game, along with optional rhythm games. The only true
  missables are a few Sounds. None of the missable sounds are required for the
  Master Instrument quest for the Meeting Fondue bonus chapter.

Q: I missed a Phantom Note, is there any way I can get it?

A: Certain Phantom Notes are permanently missable. After finishing Chapter 10
  and going through the credits and saving, you can buy the missed Phantom
  Notes from Auban's shop at the Flea Market.

Q: Where do I get the cinametic movies from for the gallery?

A: You can buy the movies from Auban's shop in the Flea Market.

Q: How do I get the three bonus chapters?

A: To get Meeting Fondue, you must complete the Master Instrument quest that
  Bernard gives you at the Flea Market.

  To get Marie's Test, you must collect all 18 Phantom Notes.

  To get Family Ties, you must A-Rank all the first 49 Rhythm Games.

Q: How do I access Hard Mode?

A: Clear the game once (getting to the credits and saving afterwards).

Q: What is a marathon mode?

A: A few marathon games (battling, dancing, etc.) are available from Auban's
  Shop. With these, you attempt to play the game for as long as possible while
  racking up a high score before your gauge runs out, hence a marathon.
