003.  Case One
-----------------------------------------------------------

Case One begins with a video of a bomb going off in a
courtroom. After this, we are introduced to Phoenix Wright
and his new law partner, Athena Cykes. We also see Apollo
Justice, another lawyer at the Wright Anything Talent
Agency.

003a.  Trial, Day One
-----------------------------------------------------------

Athena is in the lobby, talking with Apollo. The two of
them are going to be the defense team today. The defendant
is Juniper Woods, one of Athena's childhood friends. Sadly,
it seems that Apollo is too weak to participate in the
trial, meaning Athena will have to work alone.

The Trial Begins
----------------

The prosecutor for this trial is Gaspen Payne. He is an
arrogant jerk, as Athena's Widget is quick to point out.

Payne gives an opening statement, which describes the
details of the case. Yesterday, Apollo Justice was working
as the defense attorney in a trial. One of the pieces of
evidence, a bomb, suddenly exploded, destroying the
courtroom.

Fortunately, everyone was able to evacuate in time, except
for Detective Candice Arme. Payne introduces some evidence,
which is added to the court record. You can examine the
court record to see the evidence (and some character
profiles) by pressing the R-button or the button in the
upper/right part of the touchscreen.

Currently, the court record has Athena's attorney badge,
the victim's autopsy report and the stuffed animal bomb.

Juniper is called to the stand, where she confirms she was
at the trial yesterday. She did not know the defendant, but
Juniper was falsely accused of murder once before (see Case
#3 of this game). That gives her a motive: revenge against
the court system.

Payne challenges Athena to determine what is odd about the
bomb. There are three options you can choose from. The
correct option is the final one, which says the bomb was
inside a stuffed animal.

Prosecutor Payne then reveals his decisive piece of
evidence. The stuffed animal's tail is covered in the
defendant's fingerprints, meaning she handled the stuffed
animal that the bomb was hidden inside of. Given this
evidence, and Juniper's motive, Payne asks the Judge to end
the trial early.

Phoenix Wright arrives, just in time! He takes over as the
main attorney, and he demands that the trial continue.
Payne then introduces a witness.

Cross-Examining Tonate
----------------------

The witness is Ted Tonate, a member of the police's bomb
disposal squad. He has a replica of the bomb which was used
during the incident in question. He gives testimony about
how the bomb was discovered.

Phoenix wonders if he should ask about cross-examination.
You can pick yes or no. If you've played the other games in
the Phoenix Wright series, you should know how cross-
examination works. All you have to do is go through the
witness testimony and present evidence at the statement
with a contradiction. You can also press some of the
statements to get more information.

This game has a consultation button, which appears if you
fail to correctly cross-examine a witness multiple times.
You can use this button to get a clue, as to how you can
get through a piece of witness testimony.

Enough tutorial, though, let's actually try it out by
cross-examining Mr. Tonate's testimony! It's a fairly
simple testimony. You want to go to the fourth (and final)
statement. In this statement, Tonate claims that he saw the
bomb's timer counting doing. Present the stuffed animal
bomb at this statement.

Clearly, Mr. Tonate is lying! He couldn't have seen the
bomb's timer, because the bomb was inside a stuffed animal.
Tonate then claims that he heard the bomb, from all the way
across the courtroom, even though it was inside a stuffed
animal. Phoenix thinks this is suspicious, but he has no
evidence to counter this claim.

Tonate leaves the witness stand, and Juniper is brought
back inside.

Juniper's Mood Matrix
---------------------

Juniper is even more nervous than usual, and it doesn't
help that Prosecutor Payne is trying to intimidate her into
confessing. Juniper's testimony is very short, so Athena
decides to use the Mood Matrix.

The Mood Matrix lets you go through a testimony and see
pictures of what is being said. You also see what emotions
a person is feeling. Right now, Juniper is full of mixed
emotions, and her testimony has a noise level of 100%.

The final statement of Juniper's testimony shows that she
was surprised and happy when rubble fell on top of her.
Athena notices that this is contradictory, and she asks you
to point it out.

Use the pinpoint button, then select the green (happy)
emotion. Phoenix asks Juniper why she was happy when rubble
fell on her. She explains that she was happy, because
Apollo came to help her at this time.

Now that you know how the Mood Matrix works, it's time to
try it out for yourself. Go to the final statement of the
testimony, which is about Apollo saving Juniper. You'll
notice she is a little sad here. Select pinpoint, then
pinpoint sadness.

Juniper explains that she was sad, because she lost her
stuffed animal, Bum Rap Rhiny, during the explosion. She
shows a picture of Bum Rap Rhiny, with a visible tail.
Phoenix notes that this could completely change the meaning
of a certain piece of evidence.

Time to present this evidence, just like you did when
cross-examining Tonate. Go to the first statement, the one
about Bum Rap Rhiny. Then, present the Phony Phanty Tail.
Phoenix alleges that the stuffed animal tail, with
Juniper's fingerprints on it, belongs to Bum Rap Rhiny, not
Phony Phanty.

Phoenix is challenged to prove this. Select Bum Rap Rhiny's
tail and present it to the court. The Judge agrees with
Phoenix's argument, and he says that the prosecution's case
against the defendant is no longer looking solid.

The Judge asks the prosecution to investigate further, then
he ends the trial for the day.

Courtroom Ruins
---------------

Outside the courtroom, our heroes discuss the trial.
Phoenix wonders where Apollo is, and Juniper says that both
he and she went to the ruined Courtroom 4, in hopes of
finding the remains of Bum Rap Rhiny. When it seemed like
Apollo found new evidence, she was summoned back to the
courtroom to testify.

Our heroes go to the courtroom, where they find Apollo's
unconscious body lying on the ground. There is a bloody
wound on his head, indicating that he was attacked.

003b.  Trial, Day Two
-----------------------------------------------------------

Apollo is in the hospital, recovering from his wounds. He
doesn't remember what happened before his attack, but it's
a good bet that he found some important evidence that the
killer was trying to cover up.

The Trial Re-Convenes
---------------------

Prosecutor Payne has made no progress in his investigation,
so he wants to focus on something else: the attack on
Apollo. Since Juniper Woods was with Apollo at the crime
scene, Payne indicts her on the charge of attacking Apollo.

Phoenix agrees that the attack on Apollo is probably
related to the courtroom bombing, so he doesn't raise any
objections as Juniper is brought in to testify.

Cross-Examining Juniper
-----------------------

Juniper's testimony says that she and Apollo were searching
the bombed courtroom, but she was summoned away before they
found anything. Payne disagrees, and he presents a photo of
the wounded Apollo. Above Apollo's finger is the word
"woods", written in blood. Payne concludes that Apollo
wrote Juniper's last name down, because she was his
attacker.

The cross-examination begins. Press the second statement,
about going to the courtroom ruins. Their search began by
the witness stand, because there was no rubble in that
area. The Judge asks Juniper to add this statement to the
testimony.

Go to this new statement about the lack of rubble, which is
the third statement. At this statement, present the
Courtroom No. 4 Diagram, which shows a piece of rubble by
the witness stand. Is Juniper remembering things
incorrectly, or was the rubble moved?

Prosecutor Payne presents a photograph, which gives a
larger view of the crime scene. The piece of rubble in
question is the bomb transport case. Since it has wheels,
the case can be easily moved left and right. According to
Juniper, the case was on the right side, which gave them
clear access to the witness stand.

Phoenix presses the point about the case, and the Judge
asks him to point out where the case was originally
located. Select the area to the right of the case's current
position. That is, select the area with the writing.
Phoenix concludes that, since the case was in that location
at the time of the attack, Apollo couldn't have written the
bloody writing!

Payne requests more evidence, and Phoenix shows the
photograph. Select the place where the case's wheel track
goes over Apollo's bandages. That proves the case was moved
after Apollo's attack.

Decoding the Bloody Writing
---------------------------

Phoenix has neatly proven Apollo's innocence, but the Judge
brings up the obvious question: if Apollo didn't leave the
message in blood, who did?

Select the third option, which is "someone else", then
select "Candice Arme". She is the only person, besides
Apollo, who shed blood at the crime scene. Therefore, she
wrote the message in blood.

But why would Detective Arme write "woods" in blood?
Phoenix suggests that she was attempting to write something
else. The Judge demands evidence, so present the bomb
transport case. She was trying to write down the number on
the side of the transport case!

Prosecutor Payne points out that the number on the case is
not a match for "woods". How can they match? Select the
second option, which is "erase two lines". It is possible
that the person who assaulted Apollo added those two lines
to the bloody writing, in order to frame Juniper.

Athena wonders why Detective Arme wrote the bomb transport
case number. Phoenix says she was trying to name the
culprit of the courtroom bombing. At this point, select Ted
Tonate. The bomb transport case number is the same as his
ID number, so the victim must have been trying to name him
as the culprit!

Indictment
----------

At this point, Phoenix formally indicts Mr. Tonate of the
charge of the courtroom bombing. Payne questions this, and
he asks why the bloody writing wasn't found during the
original investigation.

Select the second option, which is "Tonate was the first to
find the body". When Tonate saw the bloody writing, he
covered it up with his bomb case, with the intention of
getting rid of that evidence later.

Tonate is brought into the courtroom, to testify about
finding the victim's body. He asks for proof that the
victim wrote the bloody message. Select the second option,
"prove it through DNA analysis". While the analysis is
being done, Tonate testifies.

Tonate says that the victim could not have left the bloody
writing, as her corpse was found too far away from the area
with the writing. He presents a photo to support this
claim.

With the cross-examination, go to statement #4, which is
the statement with the photograph. Here, present the
autopsy report. She was killed by a blunt object, but there
were no blunt objects found near her corpse! Phoenix
rightly concludes that the corpse was moved.

At this point, the DNA analysis is finished. It turns out
that the bloody writing was written by the victim, with the
two extra lines having been added later. That's great!
Phoenix's ideas were all correct.

The Final Cross-Examination
---------------------------

Tonate gives another testimony. He confesses that he
covered up the bloody writing and moved the victim's
corpse, in order to deflect suspicion off of himself. He
maintains that he did NOT set off the courtroom bomb; this
was a false accusation on the part of the victim.

The second statement says that the victim clearly wrote
"L10015R". At this statement, present Apollo's assault
photo. Phoenix points out a minor problem: the final "R" of
the number is not present in the photo.

Tonate tries to brush this off as unimportant. When
questioned, pick the second option: "he actually saw it".
You can prove that Tonate saw the letter R, by pointing out
the small bit of blood to the right of the letter "S". See
how it forms the top of a letter "R"? Presumably, there
originally was an "R" in that location, but it was broken
off during the bombing.

This changes our timeline. When asked, pick option #1:
Tonate saw the writing "before the explosion". That was the
only time the letter "R" was whole and undamaged.

This means that the murder of Detective Arme occurred
earlier than we originally suspected. Payne objects to this
line of thought, and he asks what the murder weapon was.
Present the HH-3000 Bomb as a murder weapon. Tonate used
the bomb to bludgeon the victim to death!

Tonate challenges Phoenix to prove that the bomb was a
murder weapon, which is impossible because the bomb was
blown to bits. Phoenix tries another tack, and he inquires
into what Tonate hid. Select the autopsy report or the
courtroom bombing photo, and Phoenix claims Tonate hid the
corpse during the trial.

Where was the corpse hidden? Select the bomb transport
case. If we open it up, we will find evidence that the
corpse was inside!

Tonate, realizing there is no way he can get out of this,
threatens to blow up the courtroom with the bomb he is
holding. He claims that he switched out bombs, during the
course of the trial.

When given the option, choose to stand your ground, instead
of running away. Phoenix claims that he can prove the bomb
wasn't switched out, during the trial. Select the crack on
the bomb's timer as your proof. Since one bomb has a
cracked timer, and Tonate's bomb does not, they are
different bombs.

After a bit, Tonate confesses that he is the culprit. He
gives more details about his crimes, and Juniper Woods is
found innocent of the courtroom bombing and the attack on
Apollo.

Post-Trial Wrap-Up
------------------

After the trial, Athena wonders about an unsolved mystery.
At this point, present the missing remote switch. No one
ever found it!

Our heroes go out to celebrate, but later that date, Apollo
takes a leave of absence from the Wright Anything Agency.
Athena wonders why Apollo is shutting out his friends.

004.  Case Two
-----------------------------------------------------------

Case Two takes place several months before Case One. It is
the story of Athena and Apollo's first case together.

004a.  Investigation, Day One
-----------------------------------------------------------

Investigation – Day 1
---------------------

Phoenix has given Apollo the job of watching over Trucy
Wright, Phoenix's adopted daughter. Trucy takes Apollo to
Nine-Tails Vale, a town where people are very excited about
Japanese monsters.

The town is having a festival, and Trucy wants to meet her
friend. At this point, you get to start the investigation.
It is rather simple. Select the "talk" button to talk to
the person onscreen, select the "present" button to show
evidence to the person onscreen, and select the "move"
button to move to another location.

Try this out! Select "move", then pick "Kyubi Manor
Garden". Apollo and Trucy go to that location, where they
meet her friend Jinxie. Jinxie mistakes Apollo for a demon.

Talk to Jinxie to learn that she is too afraid to speak to
Apollo.
Soothe her fears by presenting Apollo's attorney's badge to
her. You can now talk to her for real. Ask her about Nine-
Tails Vale to learn about the monster craze.

Talking to Jinxie about Nine-Tails Vale allows you to have
a conversation with her about Tenma Taro. Ask her about
Tenma Taro. She says he is a bird demon, rumored to be
locked inside the Forbidden Chamber. She gives you a
scroll, showing Tenma Taro's defeat at the hands of his
nemesis, the Nine-Tailed Fox.

A Mysterious Murder
-------------------

As part of the festival, they stage a fight between Tenma
Taro and a local wrestler named the Amazing Nine-Tails.
Naturally, the Amazing Nine-Tails wins the fight, and
everyone cheers for their wrestling hero.

Apollo and Trucy go off to enjoy the rest of the festival.
After a while, they notice Jinxie causing a disturbance.
She says that the alderman has been murdered! Apollo rushes
to the crime scene, where he finds a dead man and a wounded
man.

After Jinxie gets questioned by the police, you have the
opportunity to talk to her. Ask about what happened. She
says that the dead man is the aldernman, Rex Kyubi. The
wounded man is Damian Tenma, mayor of a nearby city. He is
also Jinxie's father, and he was arrested for the murder.

Ask Jinxie about the alderman. He used to be a professional
wrestler. Jinxie also mentions that she likes visiting the
town, because it has special nine-tailed flowers which
remind her of her deceased mother.

Apollo agrees to take the case and defend Jinxie's father
in court. Apollo talks for a bit about the "notes" feature
of this game, which is found in the court record. Move to
the detention center to speak with Mayor Tenma.

The Legwork Begins
------------------

Since this is your first investigation section of the game,
it's rather simple. You mainly go to places and talk to
people.

Talk to Mayor Tenma, who is a nice person, even if he is
somewhat frightening. When you ask about the reason for his
arrest, he says his fingerprints were on the murder weapon.
When you ask about his motive, he says that he and the
alderman had a public argument about a municipal merger
between their two towns.

After you talk to Mayor Tenma about both things, he leaves.
Apollo then gets a phone call from Phoenix Wright, who
wants him to join up with Athena Cykes. Go to Yokai Lane to
meet Athena.

Talk to Athena about herself to learn more about her
history and her background in psychology. Ask about
psychology, and she tells Apollo about Widget. Talk to her
about the client, and Apollo fills her in on the details of
the case.

When you're done talking to Athena, she gives you a
newspaper. Someone took a picture of Tenma Taro, up in the
sky near the manor. How mysterious!

At this point, you can move to the Kyubi Manor Foyer. The
caretaker, a man named Phineas Filch, introduces himself
and attempts to steal Apollo's bracelet. Filch runs away,
leaving behind two diagrams which are added to evidence.
One is a diagram of the foyer, while the other is a diagram
of the crime scene and the nearby hallway.

The Fox Chamber
---------------

Apollo and Athena go directly to the crime scene, where
they meet Bobby Fulbright, a homicide detective. Detective
Fulbright loves justice!

Talk to Fulbright about investigating the scene, and he
refuses to let you inside. Talk to him about persuasion,
and Athena cleverly persuades Detective Fulbright to let
them investigate the crime scene, by appealing to his sense
of justice.

You can now examine the crime scene. Press left and right
to change the angle that you're looking from. There are
five things you must examine.

1. Examine the chair which is lying on its side to zoom in
on it. Look at the green cloth. It's a handkerchief covered
with blood!

2. Examine the desk, with the victim's outline on it.

3. Examine the window to find some sort of animal fur.

4. Examine the statue, which is next to the chair that the
defendant was seated in. The statue is covered with blood.

5. Examine the large door, which leads to the Forbidden
Chamber. It is firmly locked.

Picking Fulbright's Brain
-------------------------

Detective Fulbright shows up after this. You want to talk
to him about everything.

Ask about the details of the case, and he gives you a
photograph of the crime scene. The door to the crime scene
was locked, before Jinxie unlocked it and discovered the
murder. The victim had a second key which unlocked the
door, but its whereabouts are unknown.

Ask about the feathers and tracks. It seems someone planted
them there, to make it seem like the monster Tenma Taro is
the murderer. Ask about the suspects, and Detective
Fulbright says that Mayor Tenma is the only person without
an alibi. The other two people inside the manor at the time
were with each other that afternoon, so they are each
other's alibis.

Detective Fulbright mentions the prosecutor is a convicted
killer. Ask for more details. The prosecutor is Simon
Blackquill, and he is a master of psychology. His nickname
is "The Twisted Samurai", and his conviction is blamed for
starting the dark age of the law.

Questions for Filch
-------------------

Apollo and Athena arrive at the foyer, where Phineas Filch
is upset. The Amazing Nine-Tails' mask has washed up in a
river. White hair was found inside the mask, and some
people are saying he was murdered.

Ask Filch about the Amazing Nine-Tails to get a picture of
him. Ask about his death, and Filch explains why people
think the Amazing Nine-Tails was killed. He is probably
dead, because he would rather die than be separated from
his mask.

Filch further says that the Amazing Nine-Tails publicly
opposed the municipal merger between the two towns. Also,
there is a rumor that Mayor Tenma was pushing for the
merger, so he could open the Forbidden Chamber.

Ask about the alderman's murder. Filch says he was inside
the caretaker's office, in the foyer. Florent L'Belle was
with him the entire time. They were watching the foyer, and
they can confirm no one left or entered the manor.

Athena notes that the hair from the crime scene matches the
mask. This proves the Amazing Nine-Tails' mask was at the
crime scene. But why?

Go to Yokai Lane to meet with Jinxie.

Questions for Jinxie
--------------------

You want to talk to Jinxie about everything here. Talk
about the incident. She is reluctant to talk, because she
is afraid of monsters. After this, you can ask her, "Tenma
Taro did it?" to get details about what she saw.

After discovering the crime scene, Jinxie called the
police. After this, she saw Tenma Taro running down the
hallway. Tenma Taro was running away from the crime scene,
and he went towards the foyer.

Ask about the Amazing Nine-Tails, and she talks more about
the wrestler's refusal to remove his mask. Ask about the
Tenma Taro that Jinxie saw, and she saws he was holding a
staff which made a jingling sound. This is somewhat odd, as
he is never depicted holding a staff.

Jinxie mentions the village superstitions. The
superstitions say that you cannot look at Tenma Taro, and
you cannot tell anyone about seeing Tenma Taro. If you do
either of those two things, the demon will steal your soul,
unless you leave town immediately.

Who's That Masked Man?
----------------------

Apollo and Athena go to the foyer, in hopes of finding
Florent L'Belle. Instead, they find Filch's TV listings. He
was watching a wrestling program, around the time of the
murder.

Apollo asks about Tenma Taro, which frightens Filch.
Florent L'Belle then appears. Talk to him about keeping
Jinxie quiet, and he claims that he doesn't believe in
Tenma Taro. Further, neither L'Belle nor Filch saw Tenma
Taro after the murder.

Ask about L'Belle's alibi. He is offended that you would
question him, and he leaves with Filch.

Apollo and Athena go to speak with the defendant, Mayor
Tenma, one more time. Ask him about Tenma Taro's revival.
He denies the rumor that he wants the towns to merge, so he
can release Tenma Taro from the Forbidden Chamber.

Ask about the merger, and Mayor Tenma says he wants to
merge the towns, due to the increased tourism at Nine-Tails
Vale. This is a lie, and Apollo's bracelet reacts to it.

You now get to use Apollo's bracelet, which is also called
the "perception" feature. Move to Mr. Tenma's twitching
right eye. It twitches when he mentions tourism, so
perceive when this happens. Apollo confronts Mr. Tenma
about the lie, and you have to present evidence. Present
the glossy of the Amazing Nine-Tails. The increase of
tourism, due to the Amazing Nine-Tails, only happened after
the merger talks started.

Ask about the merger a second time, and Mayor Tenma
confesses he was being blackmailed into pursuing the
merger. Someone threatened to harm Jinxie, if he didn't go
through with the deal. The blackmail letter, proving this,
has recently disappeared.

Apollo wonders if the Amazing Nine-Tails' identity has
something to do with the situation. At this point, present
the Amazing Nine-Tails' Mask. Apollo believes the wrestler
and the victim are the same person. After all, the victim
used to be a wrestler, the wrestler has not been seen since
the murder, both of them were publicly opposed to the
merger, and there was white hair found inside the mask.

If the victim is the Amazing Nine-Tails, that would give us
a motive. The killer learned about the victim's identity,
then killed him in a fit of rage.

004b.  Trial, Day One
-----------------------------------------------------------

Trial – Day 1
-------------

Apollo teaches Athena how to do Chords of Steel, as a
relaxation technique. Phoenix talks for a bit about the
prosecutor, who arrives late to the trial. Blackquill makes
the Judge give the opening statement.

Cross-Examining Fulbright
-------------------------

Detective Fulbright is the first witness. He is here to
discuss the case, and he is here to keep an eye on
Blackquill. Fulbright gives testimony about the murder,
which focuses on the struggle between the victim and the
killer. It seems the victim counter-attacked with a statue,
after being stabbed.

At the final statement, which is about the victim being
jolted awake, present the fox and demon statue. While it
may seem like the statue was used to bludgeon the
defendant, there is a problem with Fulbright's testimony.
When asked, say that the problem is "there are no
fingerprints" on the statue.

Apollo believes this proves the existence of a third party,
who hit the defendant. Prosecutor Blackquill mentions the
bloody handkerchief, found at the crime scene. The blood
belongs to the defendant, which means it was used...when
prompted, pick "to wrap the statue". If the handkerchief
was wrapped over the statue during the attack, it explains
the lack of fingerprints on it.

Athena brings up the bird tracks and feathers, found at the
crime scene. Detective Fulbright gives another testimony,
which says that the victim planted fake feathers and tracks
at the crime scene, in order to pin the blame on Tenma
Taro. Apollo brings up the fact that someone was dressed up
in a Tenma Taro costume that day, but Blackquill brushes
this aside.

Press the final statement, about planting the feathers and
tracks. Apollo asks why the defendant would resort to
murder, and Blackquill says the murder was not
premeditated; it occurred on the spot, when the defendant
learned that the victim was really the Amazing Nine-Tails.
Blackquill also brings up the missing blackmail letter,
which was found in the victim's pocket.

After the discussion, you have a new final statement, which
says that the murder occurred after the feathers and tracks
were planted. At this statement, present the crime scene
photo. Select either the pool of blood or the bloody
tracks. The blood is below the feathers and tracks,
therefore, they were planted AFTER the murder.

Clearly, there is a problem with the police's timeline.
Since the mayor was knocked unconscious with the statue,
right after the murder, there would have been no time for
him to plant evidence at the crime scene. Here, Apollo
returns to his theory about a third person at the crime
scene, which is supported by Jinxie's testimony.

Blackquill objects. He says that Jinxie could not have seen
someone dressed like Tenma Taro, fleeing the scene shortly
after the discovery of the body. After all, no one else saw
someone dressed like Tenma Taro.

Cross-Examining Filch
---------------------

Phineas Filch is brought to testify. He says that he was
watching the foyer the entire time, and he saw nothing. At
this point, Blackquill's pet hawk appears.

At the third statement, about 3 PM, present the TV
listings. Instead of watching the foyer, he was watching a
wrestling match on television! Prove this by presenting the
foyer diagram. To watch the television, you need to face
away from the foyer.

Blackquill suggests that the witness would have heard Tenma
Taro, which prompts another testimony. Press the third
statement, about the creaky stairs. Filch mentions that
Tenma Taro carries a loud staff. When prompted, say this is
"very important" to have it added to the testimony.

Go to this new statement, about Tenma Taro's jingle jangle
staff. At this statement, present the yokai legend scroll.
Tenma Taro is never depicted with a staff, so why did Filch
assume he had a staff? Select "he actually saw Tenma Taro".

Filch refuses to admit he saw Tenma Taro, due to the
village superstition that says talking about the bird demon
will cause you to lose your soul. And now that Apollo has
proven there was a third party, dressed as Tenma Taro, he
accuses the third party of being the culprit.

Filch runs away, and Blackquill breaks his shackles.
Blackquill questions the idea of a third party at the crime
scene, seeing as Jinxie did not see this person before she
called the police. The trial takes a brief recess.

Jinxie's Mood Matrix
--------------------

Jinxie is afraid to testify about her discovery of the
crime scene. Why? She claims she saw many monsters at the
crime scene! Athena decides to use Widget to help calm
Jinxie down.

When prompted, select the cat monster on the wheel of fire.
Then, present the light fixture. Jinxie didn't see a cat
monster; she saw something which vaguely resembled a
monster. The same holds true for all the other monsters she
saw; they were merely figments of her imagination.

The work with the Mood Matrix continues. Go to the third
statement, about Jinxie's legs giving out. At this
statement, pinpoint the blue emotion. Why did she become
less frightened, when she fell down? Present the nine-tails
flower here. She saw the flower, which gave her a burst of
courage like it normally does.

Jinxie agrees. She saw the flower on a key case, which she
slipped into her pocket. Blackquill recognizes this as the
missing key to the room! Since both keys to the crime scene
were in Jinxie's possession, and the door to the crime
scene was locked, Blackquill concludes it was impossible
for any third party to get in and out of the room.

The Great Escape Act
--------------------

Apollo objects, and he is forced to explain how the killer
left the crime scene, given that the only door was locked.
When asked what the killer used to escape, select the front
door. Then, select "the perp locked it from the outside".
In other words, the door was locked, because the killer
locked it after escaping.

Blackquill asks why the key was found inside the room.
Select the culprit "threw it in from outside". When asked
how, select the air duct. After locking the door behind
him, the killer used the air duct to deposit the key inside
the locked room.

Apollo explains what happened, in some detail. Blackquill
insists that there was not a third party at the crime
scene, dressed in a Tenma Taro costume. Such a person would
have been seen by the security camera trained on the
manor's front door.

Athena suggests that the person dressed as Tenma Taro left
through the window, which is at a blind spot for the
camera. Present the special edition paper to support this.
Tenma Taro was seen in midair after the murder, and there
is photographic proof to back this up!

Blackquill comes up with a different explanation. He says
that Jinxie disguised herself as Tenma Taro. She faked the
evidence at the crime scene, and she created a witness out
of Mr. Filch, in order to make it seem like a third party
was at the crime scene.

Unexpectedly, the defendant steps in at this point and
claims that he is currently possessed by the demon Tenma
Taro. He gives an explanation of what happened, an
explanation which exonerates his daughter from all wrong-
doing. Blackquill is satisfied with this confession, even
though it is bizarre, and trial ends for the day.

004c.  Investigation, Day Two
-----------------------------------------------------------

Investigation – Day 2
---------------------

Athena and Apollo start their investigation by examining
the air ducts. It turns out that the ducts are incredibly
dusty, which proves the culprit did not crawl through them,
as Apollo suspected.

Talk to Detective Fulbright about the investigation. He
reveals that they found a staff, by the side of the cliff.
Presumably, this is the same staff that the Tenma Taro
impersonator was carrying. Talk about the Amazing Nine-
Trails to learn that the wrestler's fans are furious.

Go to the Wright Anything Agency. Phoenix is here. Talk to
him about the defense, and he comments on the trial. Talk
about Athena and Phoenix, and they describe how they met
when he was in Europe.

Interview with the Demon
------------------------

Apollo and Athena go to the detention center to speak with
their client. He is still acting like he is possessed by a
demon. Talk about the feathers and tracks, and he says he
is not the murderer. Someone tampered with the crime scene.

Talk about what he remembered. He presents you with the key
to the Forbidden Chamber. He says that he stole this key
from the killer, when the killer attacked him with the
statue. That means the killer had access to the.

Present the fox and demon statue to Mayor Tenma. He says it
was a gift from the victim, but he never got a chance to
see it, because it was covered with a handkerchief.

Present the blackmail letter to Mayor Tenma. This allows
you to talk to him about it. He says only two people knew
the letter was in his briefcase: him and his aide, Florent
L'Belle. Since Tenma did not move the letter, Florent must
have done so. Apollo begins to suspect that L'Belle is the
murderer.

Go to Yokai Lane to meet with Jinxie. She is acting
strangely when you first arrive, but she acts more normal
when she puts her usual charms on her forehead. Talk to her
about "what you remembered", and she talks about the
feathers and tracks. They were not there when she
discovered the crime scene; therefore, they were planted
afterwards.

Talk about the forbidden chamber. She says the Fox Chamber
contains a clue, which shows how to open the forbidden
chamber. No one is sure how to get inside, though.

Present the fox and demon statue to Jinxie. She explains
that the statue has a cup on top, which makes it look like
the fox and bird are working together. The cup must have
broken off, when the killer used the statue to hit the
defendant.

Questions for L'Belle
---------------------

Athena and Apollo go to the garden after this, where they
meet with L'Belle. Talk to him about Tenma Taro, and he
admits that he saw someone wearing a Tenma Taro costume,
shortly after the murder. He says he lied about it earlier,
in order to protect Jinxie.

Talk about Jinxie, and Florent mentions the rumor that
Jinxie is possessed. She wanders around in a daze some
nights, and she can't remember what happened afterwards.
L'Belle suspects a similar episode happened after Jinxie
discovered the crime scene, which is why her memory of the
event is so hazy.

Present the blackmail letter to L'Belle. Apollo asks if
L'Belle is the person who moved the letter from the
defendant's briefcase to the victim's pocket. L'Belle
denies the accusation and destroys the blackmail letter.

L'Belle shows off his new product: Couleur Me L'Belle. It
can change your hair color, and it washes out with water.
It is not available to the general public, and he gives
some to Athena.

Move to the Fox Chamber at this point.

Chamber Secrets
---------------

Apollo and Athena are going to search the Fox Chamber, in
hopes of finding the secret entrance to the Forbidden
Chamber. Examine the door to the Forbidden Chamber, as well
as the statues next to the door. The statues move. Examine
the folding screen to see a similar pair of statues.

Look at the table, and Athena notices something underneath.
Look at it. It's the cup that is supposed to be attached to
the top of the Fox and Demon statue.

Once you've found the cup, and you have looked at the
folding screen, Forbidden chamber door, and fox statues,
the investigation comes to a halt. Apollo mentions looking
at the folding screen again. Resume investigation, then
look at the folding screen again. This time, you can spin
it around.

On the back of the folding screen, there are two keyholes
in the middle. There are also two keyholes on the edges of
the folding screen. Look at the key and keyholes. Apollo
will realize the folding screen must be folded, which leads
to the discovery of how to open the Forbidden Chamber.

You need to investigate this area, too. You need to look at
everything, except for the lanterns, feathers on the ground
and the gravestone on the right. Those are optional.

Look at the hand cream, to see that it is from L'Belle's
line of products. This proves that he was inside the
Forbidden Chamber at one point.

Look at the statue to find an old figurine. Look at the
scroll on the table below the statue to read it. Look at
the air vent in the top/right to note its existence, and
look at the rack of staves to confirm that the staff held
by the Tenma Taro impersonator came from here.

When you're done investigating the Forbidden Chamber, go to
the foyer.

The Truth about Possession
--------------------------

Filch is here. He attempts to steal Widget. Talk to him
about stealing, and he explains that grandfather was a
famous thief, who left statues in the places he robbed. It
matches the one in the Forbidden Chamber. Ask Filch about
the Forbidden Chamber treasure, and Filch says his
grandfather probably stole the great treasure, rumored to
be housed there.

Ask about the Tenma Taro sighting. Filch says he lied about
seeing Tenma Taro, due to the village superstitions. Apollo
is suspicious. At this point, present the superstitions.
Filch is ignoring the superstition about leaving the
village.

Ask Filch about the Tenma Taro sighting again, and he
admits that he lied because of Florent L'Belle. L'Belle
said they should both lie about what happened.

Go to the Detention Center, and ask Mayor Tenma about the
rumor of Jinxie being possessed. He does not know this
rumor. Ask Athena for the true story, and she suggests that
Jinxie isn't possessed. Rather, Jinxie is a somnambulist.
In other words, Jinxie is sleepwalking due to lack of
sleep.

Ask Mayor Tenma about the feathers and tracks. He says
neither he nor Jinxie had anything to do with them. He
suspects that L'Belle is the murderer, but he does not know
what L'Belle's motive is.

A Startling Confession
----------------------

L'Belle is forcing Filch to practice testimony, for the
trial tomorrow. Talk to him about Tenma Taro's true
identity. L'Belle denies being the person disguised in the
Tenma Taro costume. L'Belle mentions that he plans on
testifying in the trial tomorrow.

Apollo and Athena go outside, where they meet Jinxie. Ask
her what she remembers, and she says that her father talked
to her briefly, when she discovered the crime scene. She
refuses to divulge what he said.

This triggers another perception challenge. Move to her
right hand, the one holding the charm. It shakes when she
says "that's all he said". Perceive at this statement to
break through Jinxie's lie.

Talk to Jinxie about what she remembers. She says that her
father confessed to being the killer. A confession from the
defendant? That's bad news for us! Apollo and Athena review
the case at this point, and the investigation ends.

004d.  Trial, Day Two
-----------------------------------------------------------

Trial – Day 2
-------------

Trial begins with the Judge giving an opening statement.
Blackquill summons Filch to the stand, in order to explain
the feathers and tracks found at the crime scene.

Cross-Examining Filch
---------------------

Filch testifies that the person he saw inside the Tenma
Taro costume is Jinxie. He believes this, because the
person in the costume was short (unlike the defendant or
Florent L'Belle).

Go to the fourth statement, which says Jinxie stole the
staff from the Forbidden Chamber. While it's true the staff
came from there, this contradicts the evidence. Present the
Forbidden Chamber Key here. Since the key was swallowed
after the murder, Jinxie could not have used it to steal a
staff after the murder.

Apollo accuses L'Belle of being the person disguised as
Tenma Taro. To support your accusation, present the hand
cream found in the Forbidden Chamber. A fingerprint test
conclusively proves that the hand cream, and therefore, the
Tenma Taro impersonator, is Phineas Filch.

Blackquill and Apollo demand an explanation. Filch says he
stole the hand cream from L'Belle, and he accidentally
dropped it while attempting to steal the treasure in the
Forbidden Chamber. He entered the chamber through the vent
system.

Apollo is asked what happened to the Tenma Taro costume.
Select the window on the right, the open window which is
out of the security monitor's line of sight. Filch threw
the costume through the window. To prove this, present the
special edition paper, with the picture of Tenma Taro
flying. The flying bird was actually the falling costume!

Blackquill questions how Filch left the Forbidden Chamber.
Someone from the outside unlocked the door, at which point,
Filch ran away and unintentionally left behind the feathers
and tracks at the crime scene. This explains the feathers
and tracks, but who opened the Forbidden Chamber door?

Apollo requests a new witness, one without an alibi. Select
Florent L'Belle. L'Belle's alibi was that he was in the
foyer with Filch. Now that we know Filch was NOT in the
foyer, L'Belle's alibi does not hold up.

Cross-Examining L'Belle
-----------------------

Trial takes a brief recess, then resumes. L'Belle says that
he saw the crime scene from the hallway. He saw Jinxie
while she was inside, he saw the defendant opening the
Forbidden Chamber doors, and he heard the defendant confess
to the murder.

At L'Belle's testimony, go to the final statement, which is
about how he left the hallway. Present Jinxie's statement
here. L'Belle could not have been in the hallway, because
Jinxie never saw him.

L'Belle admits that he was not in the hallway, and he
changes his testimony. This time, he says he was inside the
crime scene, hiding behind the folding screen.

Press the fourth statement, where L'Belle says he saw
something horrifying. Ask for more details about the murder
weapon, and L'Belle mentions the fox and demon station. Say
this is "very important", and it is added to the testimony.

Go to the new, fifth statement about the statue. At this
statement, present the statue. L'Belle clearly saw the
statue before it was broken. Since it was broken at the
time of the murder, this places him at the crime scene
shortly before the murder.

Blackquill dismisses this, and he focuses on the fact that
Jinxie heard a confession. He also points out that Jinxie
saw her father at the crime scene, but she did not see
L'Belle.

Tenma Taro's Mood Matrix
------------------------

The Judge seems prepared to hand down a verdict, when the
defendant takes the stand. He demands that he testify about
what happens. The testimony says that the barely-conscious
defendant saw Tenma Taro and the Nine-Tailed Fox.

Athena decides to use the Mood Matrix here. Pinpoint the
happiness (green) at the final statement, about the Nine-
Tailed Fox. Why would he be happy at seeing the Nine-Tailed
Fox? The defendant says he was happy, because a lot of
light appeared when the Nine-Tailed Fox did.

Apollo is asked where the mayor was, during the murder.
Select the Forbidden Chamber. This explains why he saw
Tenma Taro; there is a large statue of Tenma Taro in there.
As for the Nine-Tailed Fox, what he really saw was the
Amazing Nine-Tails.

Go to the final statement, about the Amazing Nine-Tails.
Here, pinpoint the sadness (blue). He says he felt sad,
when he saw the wrestler's red cape.

Go to the final statement again. Present the Amazing Nine-
Tails Glossy here. The wrestler does not have a cape! When
asked what the red thing was, present the crime photo. The
red thing which saddened the defendant was the bloody
corpse.

A Locked Room Laid Bare
-----------------------

This new testimony complicates matters. The Judge asks if
Apollo can explain things. Select "Yes, I can". When
prompted, select "L'Belle was disguised as Tenma". That
explains why Jinxie didn't see L'Belle at the crime scene,
but the disguise must have been unrealistically detailed.

Apollo thinks things over, and he realizes what the
disguise was. Present the Amazing Nine-Tails Mask. The
defendant is really the Amazing Nine-Tails, and L'Belle
impersonated him by donning his mask. Apollo explains what
happened in great detail.

The Final Cross-Examination
---------------------------

L'Belle interrupts before Mayor Tenma can admit he is
really the Amazing Nine-Tails. He threatens to reveal the
truth about Tenma Taro, a truth that the mayor is unwilling
to admit. L'Belle gives testimony to show the mayor isn't
the Amazing Nine-Tails.

Press the final statement, about ruin coming to the town.
L'Belle says that Tenma Taro is a great fortune. When
prompted, suggest that "Tenma Taro" is another name for the
"Forbidden Chamber treasure". L'Belle comments on this, and
his statement is added to the testimony.

Go to the new, final statement, which is about Tenma Taro's
existence. Here, present the Azuki Kozo Figure. Tenma Taro,
the treasure, no longer exists! It was stolen by Filch's
grandfather! Mayor Tenma explains more about the treasure
in question, and then he admits that he is the Amazing
Nine-Tails.

Jinxie backs up this testimony, by confirming she saw
someone wearing the Nine-Tails mask at the crime scene. She
thought it was her father, but we now know it was not.

Conclusive Evidence
-------------------

Blackquill interrupts, and he asks if you have conclusive
evidence. Select "of course I do". Apollo then thinks
things over.

When asked which evidence is important, select the Amazing
Nine-Tails Mask. When asked what clue it holds, select the
white hair. When asked whose hair it is, select Florent
L'Belle.

Apollo asks for an analysis of the white hair. Blackquill
says the hair color does not match with L'Belle's hair.
Here, present Couleur Me L'Belle, which is L'Belle's hair
dye of choice. The color washes out with water, and the
mask was found in the river, which is why it is colorless.

L'Belle has a breakdown, and afterwards, Blackquill
explains L'Belle's motive. It seems that L'Belle was in
debt, and he badly needed the money. After this, Apollo's </pre><pre id="faqspan-2">
client is found not guilty.

Post-Trial Wrap Up
------------------

Outside the courtroom, Jinxie and her father talk. He is
unhappy. Cheer him up by giving him the Amazing Nine-Tails
mask. While his political career is in bad shape, his
career as a wrestler has never been stronger!

005.  Case Three
-----------------------------------------------------------

005a.  Investigation, Day One
-----------------------------------------------------------

Investigation – Day 1
---------------------

Some time after the previous case, Phoenix and the gang go
to Themis Legal Academy. Phoenix has been invited to give a
speech there, on the day of their school festival and mock
trial.

Athena arrives late to the event. Phoenix and Apollo are
there, and they are speaking with Professor Aristotle
Means. Professor Means is in charge of the students who are
working to become defense attorneys.

You can talk with Professor Means. Talk about the Themis
Legal Academy to learn how the school is divided into
thirds: judges, prosecutors and defense attorneys. Talk
about today's plans to learn about Phoenix's meeting with
Professor Courte, who oversees the judges' course. For some
reason, Professor Courte missed the meeting.

Talk about the mock trial to learn that the trial was
written by the top judge student. The top prosecutor
student will go up against the top defense attorney
student.

Juniper Woods, who is a third year in the judge course,
arrives to tell Professor Means to get into place for his
big speech. She escorts Athena and Phoenix out of the
building.

A Body is Found
---------------

Athena and Phoenix wait for a while, until they are
interrupted by a loud crash from a nearby stage. They
discover the dead body of Professor Courte there, and they
decide to investigate.

Start the investigation by turning right, then tapping on
the corpse. This gives you a close-up of the body. You have
three things you can look at: the body, the book and the
arrow.

The arrow appears to be the murder weapon, and it is added
to evidence. The book is a day planner which says what the
victim did today and the two previous days. The body has
marks on the wrists, which indicate she was tied up at one
point. It seems that the murder took place some time ago,
and the corpse was moved only recently.

Phoenix and Athena look in a different part of the stage.
You can look at a paper and the remains of a statue (on top
of a pedestal). Both statues here were covered up in the
morning, and it looks like they have since been destroyed.
The paper is a newspaper, about the mock trial. The two
students competing in the trial are both in love with
Juniper Woods, and the winner will get the right to date
her.

Apollo arrives at this point, and he is shocked to see the
corpse. The position and condition of the body is a perfect
match for the imaginary murder that was discussed in the
mock trial.

Juniper is Arrested
-------------------

Our heroes go inside, where they have a chance to talk to
Juniper about three things. Ask about Juniper Woods to
learn that she is being a little distant towards Athena.
Ask about the victim to learn that she and Juniper had a
close personal connection. The victim was a beacon of hope
in the dark age of the law.

Ask about the mock trial. It followed a general script that
Juniper wrote. Juniper and the victim prepared the mock
trial by themselves; no one else knew about it ahead of
time. Juniper also played the defendant in the mock trial.

Juniper's two friends appear at this point. Hugh O'Conner
is the top defense attorney, and he is rather pretentious.
Robin Newman is the top prosecutor, and he shouts a lot.
These were the two people mentioned in the newspaper
article, the ones who are both in love with Juniper.

You can talk with the three students about two things. Ask
about Juniper's performance, in order to learn that Juniper
is going to sing at the school festival, while wearing a
special costume. Ask who won the mock trial to learn that
the verdict was never decided.

Detective Fulbright appears, and he arrests Juniper. After
all, the murder played out according to her script, which
was kept a secret from everyone. There are other reasons
why Juniper is the main suspect, but Prosecutor Blackquill
wants to keep them under wraps for now.

Athena promises to defend Juniper in the upcoming trial.

The Mock Mock Trial
-------------------

Apollo's rival Klavier appears. He is a prosecutor and a
former rock star. Ask why he's here to learn that he is
going to play, during Juniper's special singing
performance. Ask him about the victim to learn that the two
of them were close. She taught him

Since the mock trial is related to this case, Klavier and
Apollo decide to reenact it, for Athena's benefit. Select
"summary of the facts" to have Klavier give his opening
statement about the murder. In both the mock trial and the
murder, the body of Professor Courte was found in the quad,
with a lack of blood and an arrow sticking out.

Select "defense's argument", to have Apollo repeat Hugh's
objection. Hugh said that the defendant couldn't have
stabbed the victim with an arrow. Clearly, an archery club
member shot the victim from far away.

Select "prosecution's rebuttal" to learn that the defense's
assumption is unsound. The murder really took place in the
art room, and the murder weapon was really an awl. Select
"how the body was moved" to learn that the body was pushed
through a window, where it landed on a mat. It was then
taken to the quad, by means of a cart.

With the mock trial finished, you get a copy of the script.
Klavier leaves.

Questions, Questions
--------------------

You can talk with Apollo, if you want. Go to the hallway to
meet with Phoenix and Professor Means. Professor Means
emphasizes his strategy of victory at all costs, through
his slogan: "the ends justifies the means". He wants to
defend Juniper, but he agrees to let Athena handle the
case.

Professor Means leaves, and you can talk to Phoenix. Ask
about the murder, and he confirms that the murder took
place in the art room. Ask for the rumor about the academy
to learn that people say the school teaches its students to
go to extreme measures, like false charges and fake
evidence, to get victories in the courtroom.

For your investigation, you must meet with three students,
in any order. Hugh is at the lecture hall, Robin is at the
maintenance area, and Myriam is at the outdoor stage.

You can talk to Hugh about two things. Talk to Hugh about
himself, and he will brag about himself for a while. He
also talks about finding the body. Talk to him about this.
He discovered the body shortly before the mock trial, but
he was so intent on winning the trial that he decided to
tell anyone about the corpse.

You can talk to Robin about two things. Ask Robin about
himself to learn that he made the statues on the stage.
Robin worked with the victim, for the art club. Ask about
the murder, to learn that Junie will not be allowed to
graduate if she is found guilty in the trial.

Myriam is a character we haven't met before. She hides
inside a cardboard box at all times. Talk to Myriam about
herself, and she asks for details about Juniper. Apollo's
bracelet reacts, indicating that she is lying. Use
perception on one of Myriam's hands, when she says "for
Juniper's state". Myriam is clearly not Juniper's friend;
present the Themis Herald to prove this. Myriam is only
interested in newspaper gossip!

You get a second newspaper, written by Myriam. Talk to her
about herself again, to learn that she is a witness for the
trial. Talk about "the ends justifies the means" to learn
that she follows Professor Means' strategies. Ask about "a
rift in the trio" to learn there was tension between
Juniper and her two friends.

Interview with Juniper
----------------------

When you finish investigating at the school, go to the
detention center to meet with Juniper.

Ask about the script to learn that Juniper tried to change
the script, in order to favor Robin, but it was changed
back. Ask about the awl, to learn it is a prop for the mock
trial. Juniper does not know where the red splotches came
from. Ask about the mock trial prep work, to learn she and
the victim were at school late last night, doing prep work.

Apollo and Athena review the case a bit, then the
investigation ends.

005b.  Trial, Day One
-----------------------------------------------------------

Trial, Day 1
------------

The trial begins with Detective Fulbright taking the stand.
He says the awl was the murder weapon, and he gives the
autopsy report. He also has a piece of evidence: a tape
recording of a woman saying, "You're a goner!". We can't
identify the woman on the tape, but it is presumably
Juniper's voice.

The only people without alibis for the time the body was
moved are Robin, Hugh and Juniper.

Cross-Examining Scuttlebutt
---------------------------

Myriam Scuttlebutt is called to the stand. She testifies
that the murder was based on Juniper's script. To get
through this cross-examination, press the first statement
and the last statement. Athena does quite badly here, but
Apollo helps by reminding her of an obvious problem.

If Juniper IS the murderer, why would she commit murder
according to the details of her script? Choose "that would
make her the culprit". It makes no sense for Juniper to
incriminate herself in such an obvious way, so she would be
sure to get caught.

Blackquill counters with new information. Juniper purposely
tried to stop the mock trial, by leading Scuttlebutt to the
body. Scuttlebutt then testifies about Juniper going to the
quad, before the mock trial took place. Scuttlebutt took a
photo of Juniper at this time, but no one's face is visible
in the photograph.

With this testimony, go to the final statement, which has
the picture of the costume. Here, present the stage
costume. The two costumes do not match up! It appears that
the person in the photograph was wearing it inside-out.

Blackquill gets an explanation from Juniper. There was
glow-in-the-dark paint on the costume at the time.
Therefore, it was put on the mannequin inside-out. He has a
photograph to prove this. The photograph clearly shows
where someone picked it up and put it on.

We have evidence about this. Present the Themis Herald
Extra, which has a picture of Robin's hands. His hands are
glowing in the dark, which shows he touched the glow-in-
the-dark paint. That would mean the person wearing the
costume in the photograph is Robin, not Juniper!

Cross-Examining Newman
----------------------

Robin takes the stand, and he testifies about how the paint
from the costume got on his hands. Athena can tell that
Robin's voice is full of discord, so she uses the Mood
Matrix on him.

You want to pinpoint the happy emotion on the third
statement, about the frilly costume. Robin was happy,
because he likes girly clothes. He insists the costume fell
upon him, but you can contradict this. Present the glowing
costume photo. If the costume DID fall on him, the
handprints would be different!

Robin admits he put the costume on and changes his
testimony.

Pinpoint the sad emotion at the fourth statement, about
getting excited. Robin was sad, because he doesn't look as
pretty as Juniper does in the costume. Why is that? At the
fifth or sixth statement, present Robin's brace. He thinks
the brace gets in the way of his beauty.

Everything clicks into place, as Athena realizes she's made
a big mistake. Select "you're a girl" to have Robin admit
that he is a girl in disguise. She removes her brace and
reveals her true self.

The revelation of Robin's true identity changes one of the
pieces of evidence. Which one? Present the tape recorder.
The recording is of a female voice, and we just found
another female!

Blackquill counters that Robin is not necessarily a suspect
based on her sex; she could be an accomplice. You need more
reason to suspect her. Athena says that Robin knew the
details of the mock trial ahead of time. How? Select that
she "heard it from Junie", and prove this by presenting the
mock trial script.

Robin's reaction to the color of the victim's suit, during
the mock trial, indicates she knew some of the details of
the mock trial ahead of time. Robin claims that she learned
about this through the victim, not through Juniper.

Cross-Examining O'Conner
------------------------

Prosecutor Blackquill brings Hugh O'Conner to the stand, in
order to testify. It seems that Hugh saw Juniper at the
school, around the time of the murder.

Press the final statement, where Hugh asks if you want to
know anything else. This gives you the opportunity to ask
about three things. Ask how Hugh prepped for the mock trial
to get a new statement, which says Hugh didn't meet with
anyone.

At this new statement, present Professor Courte's planner.
Her notes say that she was going to meet with Hugh that
day. If Hugh stayed until the final bell, it means he met
with the victim around the time of the murder!

The audio recording is proof of this situation. When asked
who is on the tape, select "the victim". When asked what
the victim was doing, select "scolding O'Conner". The tape
isn't of the victim saying, "You're a goner!"; it's a tape
of the victim saying, "Hugh O'Conner!".

Blackquill unveils his final piece of evidence: a
photograph of Juniper and the victim, at the crime scene,
shortly before the murder. The Judge is ready to hand down
his sentence at this point, but the trial gets muddled up
when Robin, Juniper and Hugh all confess to the murder. The
Judge decides to extend the trial by a day.

005c.  Investigation, Day Two
-----------------------------------------------------------

Investigation – Day 2
---------------------

The investigation begins in the detention center. Juniper
says that she has decided to switch lawyers. She's going
from Athena and Apollo to Professor Means.

Ask "why change lawyers?" and "why did you confess?" to
learn that Juniper believes in the innocence of her two
friends. Ask about the trio's friendship to learn that the
"the ends justifies the means" strategy caused a minor rift
in their friendship.

Ask about the day of the murder to learn she was in the art
room until 6:00, at which point she worked on her stage
costume. Ask about her meeting with Hugh, to confirm it
took place around the time of the murder. Juniper went home
around 8:30, long after the murder.

Athena is adamant about saving Juniper, so she makes a
deal. If she can find decisive evidence by the end of the
day, she will remain as Juniper's lawyer. If not, Professor
Means will take the reins.

The Outdoor Stage
-----------------

Go to the outdoor stage to meet with Klavier Gavin. Talk to
him about the stage to see how the stage was supposed to be
set up. It had a starry background, two statues and two
banners. Ask about the statues, to begin a search for the
statue pieces.

Looking from Klavier's side of the stage, you can find two
pieces. One is on Klavier's bench, while the other is on
the floor (in the lower/left). Looking from Phoenix's side
of the stage, you can zoom in on Klavier's statue. Here,
there's a stone on the floor and more stones to the left.
The final statue piece is in the judge's bench, which you
can zoom into from either Klavier or Phoenix's side of the
stage.

Athena and Klavier rebuild the statues. We have a complete
statue of Klavier, a barely started statue of Phoenix
Wright, and a complete statue of Lady Justice. Gee, where
did the Lady Justice statue come from?

Athena wants to examine the wire connected to the art room.
Tap on the window or the banner, and she calls to Detective
Fulbright. He uses the winch to lower a banner to the
stage.

Examine the banner to open it. It looks like Phoenix's
banner. Inside, you find a scrap of paper about Hugh.
Examine the banner again to find a bloodstain.

Finally, examine the Lady Justice statue. No one knows
where it comes from. The investigation ends here, but our
heroes examine some scrapes that make it seem like
something heavy was moved behind the stage. Myriam
Scuttlebutt runs away at this point, so Athena and Apollo
give chase.

Questions for Scuttlebutt
-------------------------

Athena and Apollo catch up with Scuttlebutt at the
maintenance area. She is upset about what happened in
trial. Pick "Scutting Scuttlebutt", and she gives you the
burnt remains of Klavier's banner. Talk about "the depths
of despair" and "your photo technique" to cheer up
Scuttlebutt. In thanks, she gives you two photographs of
the stage being set up, on the night of the murder.

Questions for O'Conner
----------------------

Go to the hallway to meet Hugh. Talk about his confession
to learn that the fake confession he made exonerates him
(at least, he believes it does). Talk about Hugh's relation
to Blackquill to learn that Blackquill is blackmailing Hugh
with sensitive information. Talk about Courte's planner,
and Hugh says that his friendship with Juniper is pretty
much at an end.

The Art Room
------------

Go to the art room to meet Detective Fulbright. You can
talk to him about the art room investigation and the
breakthrough to get an update on the voice recording. It
has been officially confirmed that Juniper is the person
who said, "You're a goner!".

You can examine many items in this room. You want to
examine both windows and both paintings, either envelope on
the left, the roped-off area, the bookshelf, the winch and
the table on the right.

Examine the clock for a bit of work. The clock is an hour
slow, but you need to prove it was slow on the day of the
murder. Do this by presenting the stage set-up photos, then
selecting the board outside the window. Clearly, the
backdrop in the photograph matches the stage backdrop.

When you're done with everything, Detective Fulbright
mentions that Robin is watching a movie in the lecture
hall. Go there to meet her.

A Fabrication Exposed
---------------------

You can talk to Robin about four things. Ask why she
confessed, to learn that she is perfectly fine with being
convicted on a charge, because she can drop out of lawyer
school and become an artist. Ask about the day of the crime
to learn Robin was making a statue that day, but no one can
confirm it.

Ask about Robin about her secret being revealed, to learn
that everyone is fine with her being a girl. Robin mentions
the snitch, which you can ask about. Someone is snitching
on all the students, to the professors.

Athena wants to talk about the statue, so present the
school camera photo to Robin. This lets you talk about
Courte's artistic sense. Robin says the statue in the
picture is of Lady Justice. Courte put the statue together
in a very odd fashion, before it was destroyed. We are
still left with the question of how it reached the stage.

Our heroes watch the video of the mock trial, which started
with a long and boring lecture from Professor Means. Robin
gives you a diagram of how the hall is set up, and Athena
notes something interesting. In the trial, Juniper says,
"You're a goner!". Present the tape recorder, and Athena
suggests that the tape recording came from the mock trial,
not the night of the murder.

Figuring Out Juniper
--------------------

Apollo and Athena arrive at the detention center and recap
their findings for Juniper.

Talk to her about the suspicions surrounding Hugh. Juniper
lies about her suspicions. Use Apollo's perception ability
here. Look at her scarf and perceive at the statement
"never causes trouble".

Athena realizes Juniper's secret is tied to Hugh's secret.
Say that Juniper is the snitch, and prove it by presenting
the victim's planner. Juniper will break down and finally
tell you the truth. Talk about the suspicions against Hugh
again to learn how Juniper function in her role as a
snitch.

Talk about Juniper's report on Hugh to learn that he has
been giving bribes to ensure good grades. This connects to
your evidence. Present the "Hugh" Scrap, taken from the
victim's planner. Did the victim take a bribe from Hugh?

Ask Juniper about her other reason for suspecting Hugh. On
the night of the murder, she saw him with a bloody hand,
wandering the halls. Shortly after this, investigation
ends.

005d.  Trial, Day Two
-----------------------------------------------------------

Trial – Day 2
-------------

Trial begins with Blackquill admitting the photograph and
the sound recording are not admissible evidence. Instead of
relying on them, he will focus on how the body was moved.
Hugh is called to the stand, and he testifies that he saw
Juniper moving a mat behind the stage on the day after the
murder.

In the cross-examination, go to the third statement, about
Hugh being between the stage and maintenance area. At this
statement, present the stage set-up photos. There was a
construction wall in the way, so he could not have seen
Juniper!

Blackquill says that Hugh is the construction worker,
operating the crane in the photograph. If Hugh was moving
the crane at the time, he could have seen over the wall.
Hugh denies this, so Athena proves Hugh wrong by selecting
"examine his neck".

Hugh is wearing the same distinctive neck band as the crane
operator; therefore, he is the crane operator. Hugh admits
that he is secretly twenty-five years old, because he took
a seven year break from high school. He was hired to
operate the crane at the school, as part of a part-time
construction job.

Athena tries a new tactic at this point. Juniper is the
prime suspect, because the body was moved using the mat and
ball cart. Is there any way the body could have been moved,
without the mat? Yes, there is, now that we know Hugh
operated a crane at the time the body was moved. Say that
Hugh used the crane to "move the body".

Hugh then shows off his injured hand, which is proof he
could not have used the crane to move the body. Whoops.

Another Way to Move a Body
--------------------------

Is there another way the body could have been moved from
the art room to the stage? Yes. Present the school banner
here. It is possible that someone secured the corpse in the
banner, then lowered the banner onto the stage with the
wire.

Blackquill asks about the bloodstains found near the other
window. Select "the victim's blood" to suggest that the
blood came from someone else. A quick blood analysis shows
that this is true. The blood near the left window actually
belongs to Hugh O'Conner, not the victim. This is easily
explained, though; the blood came when Hugh opened Myriam's
booby-trapped envelope.

Hugh asks about the statues and when they were destroyed.
The original theory was that the body was moved the day
before the mock trial. However, if the statues were
destroyed when the body was moved, that means the body was
moved during the mock trial.

O'Conner's Mood Matrix
----------------------

Hugh confesses that he is the killer, and he used a body
double to provide an alibi. It's a rather strange
confession, and Athena uses the Mood Matrix to analyze it.

Hugh has overwhelming happiness. Go to the last statement,
about Juniper's innocence, and probe at Juniper. She is the
source of Hugh's happiness. Could it be that this
confession is false?

Athena updates the mood matrix. Go to the third statement,
about the fact that Hugh did not lose the mock trial.
Pinpoint happiness here, because this is the only statement
which does not make him happy. Hugh claims he was hiding
onstage at that point. Present the lecture hall diagram to
disprove his statement. The diagram shows that Hugh would
have been in full view of Professor Means.

It's odd, but Hugh insists that Professor Means was not
there during his speech.

Go to the second-to-last statement about the empty audio
control room. Pinpoint sadness here. Hugh is sad because
the room was not empty. Who else was in the room? Select
Juniper.

Hugh is depressed at this point, and he confesses he isn't
a genius. His good grades are the result of bribes. Hugh
confronted his parents about their bribery of his teachers,
and Juniper overhead. Hugh suspects that Juniper hates him
as a result.

Athena remembers the proof of friendship that the three
friends have. Say that the friends keep their friendship
bracelets "where they're easy to touch". The three friends
show off their bracelets, affirming their friendship.

Hugh's testimony is over, but Athena presses the point
about Professor Means not being present at his speech.
Select "Aristotle Means" as a person without an alibi, and
say that the speech was "pre-recorded".

A Lecture in Court
------------------

Professor Means takes the stand. He claims that he did not
pre-record the speech. Everyone watches the mock trial
tape, and Athena believes she finds evidence that the
speech was made ahead of time. What is it? The gold statue
of Lady Justice. Professor Means' speech gives the wrong
color for the statue, since it was done before the original
statue was replaced.

Athena has further proof. Present the voiceprint analysis.
The dubbed-over section on the tape is the exact same
length as Professor Means' speech.

Professor Means then gives testimony as to why he pre-
recorded his speech. He said that he did so, in order to
meet with Juniper. Juniper then blackmailed him into
helping her get away with murder. He approves of her "ends
justifies the means" method, but he does not approve of her
committing murder.

At the cross-examination, go to the final statement about
protecting Juniper. Present the tape recorder here. If he
wanted to protect Juniper, why did he make the fake tape
recording which incriminated her?

The Final Cross-Examination
---------------------------

Professor Means then claims he has an alibi for the time of
the murder. Robin appears and corrects him. Professor Means
stayed late at school that day, because he was making the
statue of Phoenix Wright while Robin made the statue of
Klavier. This work took up all of his time.

Go to the fourth statement, about how Professor Means could
not have left the stage. Press this statement, and accept
his argument. The cross-examination ends.

Seeking the Truth
-----------------

Athena concedes that Means never left the stage area. This
means that the murder must have taken place there. When
prompted, say that the police were wrong about the "crime
scene". The murder wasn't in the art room! It was onstage!

Means says that this is impossible, since no blood was
found onstage. Athena disagrees. Present the school banner,
which was found onstage and had blood on it. That doesn't
account for all the blood which was found, so highlight the
other banner, then present the burnt fragments. The
majority of the blood was on the Gavineers banner, which
was later burned.

Professor Means tries to prove the body was moved, because
it destroyed the statues. Present the statue of Lady
Justice. This is the item which was moved from the art room
to the stage. When asked why the murdered did this, say
that he was trying to "point us to the body". He smashed
the statue to ensure the body would be found.

This is a good explanation, but there's a problem.
According to Athena's ideas, the body was onstage
overnight. Why did no one see it? After a while, Athena
thinks things over.

Professor Means must have uncovered the body..."During the
mock trial"
Specifically, he did it..."During the speech"
At that time, he also moved..."The white statue"
The body was hidden inside..."The Wright statue"

Athena realizes that the statue of Phoenix Wright, which
was covered up overnight, was never a statue. It was the
corpse, disguised as a statue! Athena attempts to duplicate
the statue trick. When asked where to put the arms, select
"behind my head". When asked what should be at her side,
select the arrow.

Athena's trick falls short, and she is asked to find
something else. Select the staff that Professor Means is
always holding. He used that as part of the trick. When
asked to prove this, select "test the spear for blood".

Professor Means' spear tests positive for the victim's
blood, which proves he stabbed the victim. Juniper is then
found innocent of all charges.

Post-Trial Wrap-Up
------------------

Juniper and everyone else talks outside of the courtroom.
Juniper develops a minor crush on Apollo, and the school
festival is back on! Juniper sings onstage with Klavier's
band.

The mock trial is concluded, and Hugh wins. He asks to be
friends with Juniper, and Miriam joins the group of
friends.

006.  Case Four
-----------------------------------------------------------

Case Four takes place shortly before Case One. Remember how
Case One was the story of a courtroom bombing? Case Four is
the trial that was interrupted by the bombing.

006a.  Trial, Day One
-----------------------------------------------------------

Trial – Day 1
-------------

The defendant in this trial is Solomon Starbuck, Apollo's
childhood hero. He is an astronaut, and he is accused of
killing fellow astronaut, Clay Terran. Clay was Apollo's
best friend.

Apollo is wearing an eyepatch during this case, which
confuses the Judge. Blackquill describes the events, with
the help of Detective Fulbright. Two bombs went off at the
Cosmos Space Center, shortly before a scheduled launch. One
bomb went off near the spaceship. After this happened, the
two astronauts left the launch pad and went to the main
building. Presumably, Clay was stabbed while in the launch
pad area.

To get through the first cross-examination, you need to
press every single statement. Pressing the first statement
gets you an evacuation report. Pressing the second
statement reveals the fact that Starbuck has a fear of
space travel, after his traumatic flight seven years ago.

Pressing the third statement gives you information on the
door lock, which only opens when specific fingerprints are
pressed against it. Press the fourth statement to confirm
that the murder took place in the launch pad area, before
the bombing. Press the fifth statement to learn that the
body was discovered inside the main building by Detective
Arme and Yuri Cosmos.

When the cross-examination ends, Blackquill brings out a
new piece of evidence: video footage from the security
camera. It shows one astronaut, carrying another astronaut
into the main building. The faces of the astronauts aren't
visible, but Blackquill presumes it is Starbuck, moving the
victim's corpse into the main building.

When given the chance to object to something, select "why
the body was moved". It seems odd that Starbuck would go
through the trouble of moving a heavy corpse a long
distance. Blackquill says there were two reasons. One,
Starbuck wanted to put on a show for the security camera,
to fake his innocence. Two, Starbuck had a third bomb in
the room where the corpse was found. Presumably, this bomb
would have been used to destroy the corpse. Fortunately, it
was discovered and disarmed before that could happen.

Blackquill also has evidence: the bomb remote switch, found
inside Starbuck's pocket. He summons Starbuck to the stand,
so Apollo can cross-examine him.

Cross-Examining Starbuck
------------------------

Starbuck testifies about leaving the space ship area. He
goes along with Apollo, in that he claims to have carried
Clay to safety. With this cross-examination, present the
bombing report at the second statement, about taking the
elevator. Starbuck could not have used the elevator, as it
had been destroyed in the bombing!

Starbuck amends his testimony, by saying he took the
ladder, not the elevator. At the third statement, present
the space center diagram. When prompted, select the ladder.
There is no way that Starbuck could have carried such heavy
things down a ladder without help!

Prosecutor Blackquill steps in and says that the victim's
body was pushed off the ladder, not carried down it. As
proof, he presents the oxygen tank data. This gives details
on the oxygen levels of both the victim and Mr. Starbuck.

When prompted, present the security camera video, then
highlight the oxygen display. The oxygen level of 50 does
not match with the report! Specifically, Starbuck has 0
oxygen at that point. Explain this, by selecting "the
victim was carrying the defendant".

The only viable explanation is that the victim is the
person standing up in the video. That means the victim
carried Starbuck into the lounge. This overturns
Blackquill's premise that the murder took place near the
space ship.

The murder must have taken place in the lounge, and
Detective Arme is summoned to testify about discovering the
body in the lounge. Ted Tonate takes the stand instead, and
he warns everyone to evacuate because a bomb is about to
explode!

006b.  Investigation, Day One
-----------------------------------------------------------

The game skips ahead in time, to after the trial in Case 1.
Ted Tonate has been arrested for bombing the courtroom, and
the trial for Clay Terran's murder is set to resume.
Phoenix and Athena decide to continue working on Starbuck's
defense, even though Apollo is injured.

Investigation – Day 1
---------------------

Talk about the case, and you learn that the murder weapon
was a standard-issue utility knife that all mechanics at
the space station have. Talk about the HAT-1 Miracle to
learn about Starbuck's daring mission seven years ago. Talk
about outer space to learn that Starbuck both fears space
and desperately wants to go back there. Talk about the
victim to learn that Clay Terran and Apollo Justice both
spent time at the space center and shouted "I'm fine!" with
frequency.

When you're done talking to Starbuck, go to the entrance.

Questions for Cosmos
--------------------

The Space Center Entrance is fancy. Phoenix questions why
it is called GYAXA, when Yuri Cosmos arrives. He is the
director of the space center, and he was one of the first
to discover the victim's body.

Talk to Cosmos about himself, and he gives you the
runaround concerning what he does. He does the same thing
when you ask about the bombing. The only thing he will talk
about is HAT-1. They recently received asteroid samples
from that mission, which are being processed.

Go to the Boarding Lounge, which is likely the scene of the
murder. A police officer tells our heroes that they need
permission to investigate here.

Detective Fulbright is in the Launch Pad 1 corridor, so go
there and talk to him about everything. Talk about the
crime scene to get permission to investigate. Talk about
what happened to learn about the evacuation, which was
hampered by the elevator being bombed. People at the top of
the building had to evacuate on a ladder. Talk about the
witness to learn that one person looked into the crime
scene window, while going down the ladder, and she saw
something.

Move to the boarding lounge after this.

The Boarding Lounge
-------------------

Now that you have permission to investigate, you'll need to
thoroughly examine the room. Examine the white rope in the
lower/left, which outlines where the corpse was found.
Examine the spinning object on the roof, to find a piece of
the oxygen tank inside. Examine the door on the right to
learn more about the various doors in this room. Two of
them are locked with fingerprint scanners.

You should now be looking at the area with two doors. Zoom
in on the right door, and examine the three things there:
the door, the fingerprint reader and the mystery knob left
of the fingerprint reader.

Step back, then examine the left area, which has a moonwalk
training pad. Examine it, and the right floor panel right
of it. Examine the grate against the wall, and examine the
glinting object inside the grate. You find a tiny bullet
inside.

Back away and rotate the camera to the right. Examine the
mirror, the table and the open capsule. Examine the control
device to turn off the hologram screen on the wall. Rotate
left and examine the crack in the turned-off wall. It's a
bullet hole! Examine it to learn that a normal-sized gun
made the hole.

When you've finished examining everything, a robot named
Ponco shows up and takes you to the Space Museum. Talk to
Ponco about the HAT-1 to learn more about the original
mission. There is a picture of the crew involved with that
mission. Talk to Ponco about the launch pad layout to learn
how the launch pad is moved from its current location to
launch position.

Phoenix wants to talk to Ponco about the asteroid capsule,
so present the autopsy report to Ponco. The asteroid
capsule, which was originally sent off to space seven years
ago during HAT-1, is added to the court record.

Our heroes want to talk to Detective Fulbright now, so head
to the Launch Pad 1 Corridor.

Questions for Fulbright
-----------------------

There are two things you can talk to Detective Fulbright
about. First, ask about the bullet hole at the crime scene
to learn that Detective Arme fired the gun. Second, ask
about the fingerprint data to learn that the handprint on
the fingerprint lock matches the defendant.

Present the security camera video to Fulbright, to learn
that the video footage ends while the astronauts go through
the door.

Fulbright continues to act strangely, and Phoenix decides
to use his magatama. Either press "x" or the magatama
button on the touchscreen to use it here. When prompted,
say that Fulbright is worried about "justice". Use the
evacuation report to prove the guard assignment was
dangerous, and use Candice Arme as an example of an odd
person to be a guard.

Fulbright reveals a bomb threat was made, before the
launch. Continue talking to Fulbright, about what he can't
say, Prosecutor Blackquill, and haunted for seven years.
Seven years ago, a murder took place at the space station.
Blackquill was found guilty of the crime, and for the past
seven years, he has blamed a phantom.

Fulbright says the eyewitness is outside. Phoenix and
Athena automatically go there. She is Aura Blackquill, and
she works with robots. Ask about her last name to confirm
that she is Simon Blackquill's older sister. Ask about the
witness to receive a statement on what she saw, which is
someone holding a fancy lighter and a knife. End the
conversation by asking why she hates lawyers.

Time to wrap up the investigation! Go to the detention
center to speak with Starbuck.

Investigation Report
--------------------

Talk with Starbuck about the lighter, and he will mention
that he remembers seeing it, too. Presumably, the man
holding the lighter is the third party who killed Clay!

Apollo Breaks Away
-----------------

Phoenix gets rid of his unneeded evidence and goes back to
the Wright Anything Agency. Apollo arrives. Talk about his
injuries, and Apollo claims he is fine. Talk about Clay
Terran, to learn more about Apollo's history with his best
friend.

Talk about "I'm fine" to learn why Apollo and Clay say
those words often. Apollo ends with a dramatic
announcement: he is taking a leave of absence from the law
agency, so he can follow the case on his own.

006c.  Trial, Day Two
-----------------------------------------------------------

Trial – Day 2
-------------

The trial begins with a recap of the case, followed by
Director Cosmos taking the stand. He testifies about seeing
someone at the scene of the crime. Sadly, due to the
darkness, the person's face was not clearly illuminated, so
Cosmos cannot positively identify them.

Press the final statement, where he guesses that the person
was the defendant. A conversation follows, about how a
third person must have escaped through the southern door,
the one without a door lock.

Phoenix asks Cosmos why he briefly looked away from the
room. He says it is because Detective Arme pulled out her
gun and fired two shots. This statement is added to the
testimony.

Go to the new statement, which is the final statement.
Present the bullet hole here. Why is there ONE bullet hole,
if she fired TWO shots? Blackquill is quick to say that the
second bullet was found by the oxygen tank, where it
presumably ruptured it.

The Judge asks if that clears up all the issues. Say "no,
it doesn't". When prompted, present the bullet. There was a
10 caliber bullet found at the crime scene, but Detective
Arme's gun was .38 caliber.

Cosmos begins to brag about what happened. Arme fired
twice, while the shadowy person fired once. The bullet hit
one of the medals on Cosmos' chest, and he was very
fortunate to have survived.

Cross-Examining Cosmos
----------------------

At the testimony, present the bullet on the third
statement. Cosmos says he was in the east area, but the
bullet was found to the south. Therefore, Cosmos is lying
about where he was standing, when he was shot. The only
proper conclusion we can draw is that Cosmos was standing
in the southern area.

Phoenix reevaluates his thinking. Comsos and Detective Arme
must have arrived at the crime scene, at separate times.
When prompted, say the only person who could have left the
scene was Yuri Cosmos. When asked for evidence, use the
bullet from Arme's gun.

Cosmos' bullet wound matches perfectly with Arme's bullet,
proving that he was the person she shot. That means he
entered the scene before she did. Presumably, he left
through the control room door, which only he can open, then
he doubled around the area to make it seem like he arrived
after Arme.

006d.  Trial, Day Two, Part Two
-----------------------------------------------------------

What Cosmos Actually Saw
------------------------

Cosmos was the first person on the scene, and he saw the
killer at that time. He cannot explain how the killer
escaped, so Athena brings out the Mood Matrix.

You have two things you want to, to get through the first
part of Cosmos' mood matrix.

1. Pinpoint his sadness at "and, well, the Launch Pad 1
door..."
2. Pinpoint his lack of surprise at "...but, when I tried
to get another look, they had vanished into thin air!"

Phoenix puts these two things together and makes a
conclusion. When asked where the culprit escaped, highlight
the Launch Pad 1 Corridor (the left exit). When asked whose
fingerprints opened the door, select "Solomon Starbuck".

Cosmos gives new testimony about entering the crime scene.
This testimony discusses when Arme entered the room. You
want to pinpoint the surprise at "And then, the detective
shot at me!" Why is it weird? Say that Cosmos was "More
surprised when Arme came" than when she shot at him.

This indicates he was doing something suspect at the crime
scene. Phoenix double-checks the photos and realizes what
Cosmos changed. When asked, highlight the mysterious knob
which is left of the fingerprint reader.

Cosmos admits that he turned the knob, and he explains that
the knob is a safety lock which moves the launch pad.

When you return to the cross-examination, pinpoint the
happiness at "I had no choice but to disengage the safety
lock." It seems like Cosmos was following orders.

Blackquill steps in and points out the safety lock could
not have been used to move the launch pad, as the launch
pad was never moved. Phoenix comes up with an explanation.

The safety lock was used..."To switch it with another
place"
The launch pad was switched with...the Space Museum.
The proof is...The number 2 on the ground of the hallway.

The entire time, we had everything backwards. At the time
of the murder, the space museum and Launch Pad 1 were
swapped. This allowed the killer to sneak into Launch Pad 1
and set the bomb, without going through the fingerprint
lock.

The killer then travelled to the lounge, where they waited
for the astronauts to appear. After killing Clay, the
killer went into the space museum. When Cosmos turned the
safety lock, the museum and launch pad were put back to
their normal places, making it easy for the killer to
escape.

Conclusive Evidence
-------------------

Detective Fulbright shows up with conclusive evidence. It
is the culprit's cigarette lighter! The lighter has the
victim's blood on it, along with the culprit's
fingerprints.

Since Mr. Starbuck's fingerprints are not on the lighter,
this is proof he is innocent. The Judge renders a not
guilty verdict, and the trial ends.

Afterwards, Blackquill questions whose fingerprints are on
the lighter. They belong to Athena Cykes. Athena is then
arrested.

007.  Case Five
-----------------------------------------------------------

This case takes place directly after the end of Case 4.

007a.  Investigation, Day One
-----------------------------------------------------------

Investigation - Day 1
---------------------

The investigation begins with Phoenix at the Wright
Anything Agency, talking with his adopted daughter, Trucy.
They decide to investigate the case, in hopes of proving
Athena's innocence.

After Phoenix discards the unnecessary evidence, go to the
entrance. You see Director Cosmos, but he soon leaves. Go
to the boarding lounge to see Mr. Starbuck.

Talk with Starbuck about the murder. He had no idea the
launch pads were switched that day, even though it seems
that Clay Terran and Director Cosmos knew about it. Talk
about the murderer, and Starbuck confirms he could not see
the murderer in the dark. Also, the culprit escaped with
their gun.

Talk about switching the launch pads, and Starbuck lets you
examine the Launch Pad Corridor that was connected to the
boarding lounge, at the time of the murder. Here, examine
the leaves in the lower/left and also the door-opening
machine. This one has a button, not a fingerprint scanner,
so anyone could have used it to get inside and kill Clay.

That's all for this area for now. Go to the entrance to
talk with Director Cosmos.

More Questions for Cosmos
-------------------------

Cosmos tries to get away, but Trucy stops him. He accepts
the fact that he must talk to you. Talk to him about
switching the launch pads. He is reluctant to talk about
this topic, so you must use the magatama.

Phoenix asks why Cosmos switched the launch pads. Select
"to save the astronauts", which is the answer Cosmos gave
in court. In order to do so, he had the help of Clay
Terran. Starbuck's help was unnecessary, as Starbuck was
taking the medication that impaired his senses.

Cosmos says he was warned about the bombing ahead of time,
through a phone call. The call mentioned a previous
bombing. Select "The HAT-1 Miracle", which is when the
bombing took place. Cosmos admits that the HAT-1 flight was
sabotaged by a bombing and a murder.

The murder in question was committed by someone who was
part of the space center. Select Simon Blackquill, who was
convicted of murder seven years ago. Director Cosmos'
psyche-locks disappear, and you can now talk to him about
switching the launchpads.

Cosmos talks about seven years ago, when someone stole moon
rocks, set a bomb on the spaceship, and committed murder.
Cosmos suspects a spy did these things. Talk about "the
spy" to learn more. The government helped cover up the
incident.

Talk about "just like seven years ago", to ask about the
recent phone call. The person who called Cosmos knew the
events of seven years ago, despite the coverups. This
convinced Cosmos that the caller was the culprit from seven
years ago, so Cosmos took the threat seriously and switched
the launchpads.

Cosmos says the Hope capsule with moon rocks was destroyed.
Ask about that for more details. Even though Terran carried
it to safety, the capsule was later destroyed in the
courtroom bombing in Case 1. Cosmos believes the culprit in
both cases is the Phantom, not Simon Blackquill, because
Blackquill is in jail and therefore could not have made
both phone calls.

Cosmos spins on his scooter, so let's leave him alone. Go
to the Space Museum to see a display about the HAT-1
launch. Juniper Woods appears and mentions that Athena grew
up in the space center. Talk with Juniper about everything
here.

Talk about "Athena and the Space Center" to learn Athena
lived here, because her mother worked there. Talk about
"sad memory" to learn that Athena's mother was murdered
during HAT-1. Ask about "Young Athena" to learn more about
when Athena was young.

Trucy recommends showing the picture to Juniper, so present
the HAT-1 Exhibit to her. Juniper confirms the woman in the
picture is Athena's mother, Metis. This more or less
confirms that Blackquill was sent to jail for killing
Athena's mother.

Phoenix and Trucy go to the prison, where Ted Tonate claims
that someone stole the detonator, when he committed murder.
That would mean someone else set off the courtroom bomb in
Case 1. Fulbright gives you the remains of the Phony Phanty
Bomb as evidence, and he lets you go to the robotics lab.
</pre><pre id="faqspan-3">
Go there now. This is where Metis Cykes was killed seven
years ago. Inside, Apollo is talking to Aura Blackquill.
Ask about what happened, and Aura displays great contempt
for Athena. Also, Clonco mistakes Apollo for Clay Terran,
because Apollo is wearing Clay's jacket.

Ask about seven years ago, and you learn about the robots
that Blackquill and Metis made together. Ask about the
robots to learn that their memories are stored outside of
their bodies.

Finish by asking about Dr. Cykes and Simon. Simon revered
her as a great teacher of psychology. Phoenix suggests that
the two murders were done by different people. Aura gets
upset, and she has her robot kick you out. After this,
Trucy leaves.

Lonely Office
--------------

Go to the Wright Anything Agency, and Phoenix finds a
letter from his old assistant, Maya. Not only that, but
Maya's cousin Pearl is here! Pearl is seventeen, and she
will be Phoenix's assistant for the rest of the
investigation. Talk to Pearl about herself and about her
errand.

Go to the detention center, where the Blackquill siblings
are arguing. Talk to Blackquill about the events of seven
years ago. Blackquill refuses to talk to you, so you turn
to Fulbright for information.

Fulbright discusses the case against Blackquill. There was
security footage, which confirmed Blackquill was the only
one to enter the room around the time of the murder. There
was also a photo of Blackquill holding the murder weapon: a
bloody katana.

Fulbright lets slip about the execution date. Blackquill is
set to be executed tomorrow, so we must solve the mystery
and prove his innocence quickly! After this, Fulbright gets
an emergency call about a robot rebellion.

Hostage Crisis at the Center
----------------------------

Phoenix, Pearl and Fulbright rush to the space center,
where Aura Blackquill is using her robots to hold a group
of people captive. You are asked to appease her, so select
"retry it in court". Perhaps if they do an unofficial
retrial of the murder of Dr. Cykes, Simon Blackquill will
be found innocent, and Aura will be pleased.

Aura lets Phoenix inside the building, to examine the
robotics lab. Not long after, Phoenix's friend Miles
Edgeworth appears. Edgeworth is the Chief Prosecutor for
the area.

Talk about Miles Edgeworth to learn that he has brought
information on the case from seven years ago. Talk about
the UR-1 Incident to get an overview of the case. There
were two photos taken of the crime scene, and Blackquill
was arrested due to the security camera footage and the
photo of him holding the bloody katana.

Once you talk to Edgeworth, you can examine the room. Look
at the large robot and the robot's hand. Look at the blue
rolling cases and the table on the right.

Go left on the examine area. Look at the purple seat to
learn that this machine dismantles robots. Look at the red
box by the window to learn it is the emergency ladder. Look
at the pink computer monitor to get more information about
the robots.

Phoenix can talk with Edgeworth again. Talk with him about
his request, and it is revealed that Edgeworth asked
Phoenix to get his attorney's badge back, so Phoenix could
prove Blackquill's innocence. Talk about the dark age of
the law, to learn that the legal system's woes will be
greatly improved if Blackquill's sentence is overturned.

Interview with Athena
---------------------

You arrive at the detention center to speak with Athena.
Ask about the day of the crime, and she says she went to
see the HAT-1 exhibit in the space museum. It was too much
for her, and so she fell unconscious and missed all the
events of the murder.

Ask about her mother's work to learn that Athena hated the
headphones that her mother made her wear. The only things
her mother left behind were Widget and a moon rock earring.
Present the "Robots with a Heart" binder to learn about the
robots. Athena tried bandaging Ponco once, and her mother
fixed Ponco by using the machine in the robotics lab.

Ask about seven years ago, to inform her of the retrial for
Blackquill. Athena took the stand in the original trial,
but no one heeded her words about his innocence.
Afterwards, she moved to Europe and studied the law.

Finish this segment by asking why Athena became a lawyer.
She did it, because she wants to prove Blackquill's
innocence. Detective Fulbright comes in, with the bad news
that no open courtrooms are available for a trial. Phoenix
realizes that there is no other choice: the trial must be
held in the bombed courtroom. He is ready to prove Simon's
innocence, when Aura Blackquill reveals a change in the
plan. Athena Cykes is going to be charged for her mother's
murder, not Simon Blackquill.

007b.  Trial, Day One
-----------------------------------------------------------

Trial – Day 1
-------------

The trial begins with testimony from Detective Fulbright.
He is reading off of investigation notes, provided by Aura.
In the original trial, everyone agreed that Simon
Blackquill used a rolling case to remove the moon rock from
the room. Aura claims that he used the case to move
Athena's body.

Edgeworth claims that Athena's motive is revenge, after her
mother used her as a test subject for psychology
experiments.

In the cross-examination, press the final statement, about
Athena hiding inside the case. When asked what to do, pick
"bluff". Phoenix bluffs and says the case moved something
other than Athena's body. When you are challenged to find
something that was removed from the crime scene, select the
robotic arm, on top of the table.

It seems that the robot's arm was moved, and Phoenix can
prove which robot it was, to boot. Present the HAT-1
Exhibit. The picture shows that the robot with bandages was
Ponco. The robot must have been injured at the time.

Finish your explanation by selecting "dismantling her".
That's what Blackquill is doing in the photograph. Aura
confirms that it is, in fact, possible that Simon
dismantled the robot by using the katana.

Aura is disturbed by Phoenix's arguments, but Edgeworth is
not. He always suspected that Blackquill led Athena out of
the room, by her hand. Edgeworth proves this, through the
coat Blackquill was wearing that day; Athena's headphones
made a distinct impression on it. Phoenix requests
testimony from the robot.

Cross-Examining Ponco
---------------------

Ponco arrives on the stand. Ponco goes into sleep mode
while recharging, so she did not witness much. She only saw
Athena hug her mother, then the mother fell down. Edgeworth
interprets this as seeing the moment of murder.

Press the third statement, which talks about the victim
falling down. Ponco says the victim fell near the round
window. Phoenix wonders if this is critical. Select "there
is something" to have the window statement added to the
testimony.

Now, present the seven-year-old photos at the new
statement, about the round window. (This would be the
fourth statement). It is a contradiction, if the victim was
killed by the window, but her body was found on the other
side of the room.

When asked to explain the contradiction, select "the victim
moved". Phoenix believes the victim was still alive at that
point in time, and she later walked across the room, where
she was killed.

Edgeworth disagrees. He believes it is entirely possible
that Athena killed her mother at this point, then she
forced the robot to move the body afterwards. And in fact,
Ponco did move a heavy item for Athena. Was it the victim's
corpse?

Edgeworth elaborates. He believes Athena moved the corpse
to the robotics chair, in order to dismantle the body and
remove all the evidence of murder. Phoenix defends Athena's
honor by suggesting she wanted to repair her mother's
broken body, but it does not matter to Edgeworth.

Cross-Examining Blackquill
--------------------------

Blackquill interrupts the trial at this point. He testifies
about killing Dr. Cykes, and his testimony exonerates
Athena. But is it true? Athena appears at this point and
decides to use the Mood Matrix to get past the lies in
Blackquill's testimony.

On the second statement, about finding Athena in the lab,
pinpoint the happy emotion. Blackquill was happy, because
he was looking for Athena. He wanted her to be out of the
way, when he committed murder.

The testimony is updated. At the fourth statement, pinpoint
the sadness. Why was he so sad about committing murder?
Blackquill says he was sad about Athena's situation, which
is a lie that makes the noise level increase.

At this point, you are given the option to focus on the
testimony or the emotions. Pick "his emotions". Go to the
second statement, about opening the door to the robotics
lab. Select the surprise emotion. Blackquill says he was
attacked by Ponco at this point.

This changes Blackquill's testimony, so select "his
testimony". Go to the second statement, about the Ponco
attack. Present the photo of the crime at this statement.
The photo proves that Ponco was cut up after the murder,
not before!

Blackquill's emotions go out of control at this point, and
you are challenged to figure out why. Go to the second
statement, and probe at Athena. She is the reason he is
having so many crazy emotions. Why? When he entered the
room, she was covered with her mother's blood, and she was
attempting to repair her mother with the robotics machine.

Blackquill brightens Athena's mood slightly, by saying that
her mother's experiments were designed to help her, not
hurt her. Athena then agrees to take the stand and testify
about killing her mother.

Phoenix still believes in Athena's innocence, and he asks
to cross-examine her testimony.

Memories of Seven Years Ago
---------------------------

Athena's memories are hazy, and if those black psyche-locks
are correct, she is suppressing some memories. When
prompted, present the katana. This contradicts Athena's
testimony, because she remembers getting blood on her
hands. The katana's handle is blood-free, so it must not be
the murder weapon!

Select "The defendant used a different weapon", and when
you are asked which weapon, present the utility knife.
Edgeworth objects, because the tool box at the crime scene
did not have a utility knife inside. The box had other
tools.

Here, present the "robots with a heart" binder. The logo on
the binder is the same logo that appears on the tool
handles. The only tool that completes the logo is the
bladed knife. Phoenix is happy for a moment, until
Edgeworth dismisses the entire argument as immaterial. It
doesn't matter if Athena stabbed her mother with a knife or
a katana; either way, Athena is a murderer.

Turning My Thinking Around
--------------------------

Now that Phoenix is backed into a corner, he has to rethink
the entire case. Athena stabbed someone with the utility
knife. Who removed the knife from the crime scene? Select
"someone else".

If Athena didn't move the knife, there must be a third
party who moved the knife. This person fool Ponco's
multiple recognition programs. When asked how they fooled
the facial recognition, select that they covered "their own
face". Specifically, they used a mask.

To fool Ponco's heartbeat system, the third party posed as
someone else. When asked who, select "Metis Cykes". When
asked what the culprit used, select "her jacket". The third
party killed Metis, then impersonated her, by using her
jacket. That was enough to trick Ponco into thinking no
third person existed.

Phoenix is almost done thinking. In light of the third
party's existence, who did Athena stab? Select "the real
culprit".

Phoenix explains his reasoning, about a third party being
at the crime scene. He concludes this person is the one who
killed Athena's mother. Also, this is the person who Athena
stabbed.

Athena's black psyche-locks break as her memories return.
She stabbed a man wearing a mask. Specifically, she stabbed
his hand with the utility knife. Athena helps prove this,
by saying the stabbing happened at 2 PM. Does this help?

Present the seven-year-old video. The security footage
showed Blackquill leaving the crime scene at 3 PM. If you
move the footage back to 2 PM, you see a man with a hand
injury leaving the area. Clearly, this man is the Phantom.

Remembering the Killer
----------------------

Edgeworth objects and says, "It's a nice theory, Mr.
Wright, but I'm afraid that it's just not possible." The
footage shows the killer leaving the crime scene with the
jacket, but the jacket was discovered at the crime scene.

When asked to explain, say that "the killer brought it
back". Edgeworth asks when. Respond with "when the body was
found". Three people discovered the body. One of them was
the Phantom, and he slipped the jacket back onto the crime
scene while the others were distracted.

Blackquill comes back to speak about the Phantom. The
victim did a minor psychological profile on the Phantom,
based on a short voice clip. Presumably, the Phantom killed
her, to get this evidence. Blackquill gives this to
Phoenix.

The Judge is ready to declare the innocence of Athena and
Blackquill, but Apollo Justice interrupts.

007c.  Trial, Day One, Part Two
-----------------------------------------------------------

Cross-Examining Apollo
----------------------

Apollo suspects that Athena is guilty of Clay Terran's
murder. At this point, the trial shifts its focus on the
Clay Terran case.

Apollo gives a testimony about his suspicions. To get
through the testimony, press every single statement. Apollo
explains that he suspects Athena because she lied about the
case from the beginning, AND because security footage shows
she is the only person who went through Boarding Lounge 2
after the murder.

After all the statements get pressed, Apollo concludes that
Athena must be guilty, unless the culprit took a
previously-unknown escape route. He asks if this is the
case. Answer "of course".

After a discussion about Apollo's motives, Phoenix
continues this argument. When asked where the culprit went
after the murder, select the space museum corridor. The
culprit clearly was inside the space museum as the two
buildings were being switched.

Phoenix concludes that the culprit escaped, while the
buildings switched. When asked where the culprit went,
select the area on the outside of Boarding Lounge 1. Then,
present the emergency ladder. The ladder was on the outside
of the building at the time, so the culprit must have
jumped to it!

Edgeworth points out that Phoenix's theory is far-fetched.
That is a jump of 20 feet, while 50 feet in the air. It
would require split-second timing, and any normal person
would be paralyzed with fear at the thought.

Phoenix knows someone without fear. Present the Phantom's
Psych Profile at this point. The fearless Phantom could
have made that leap!

The Phantom Revealed
--------------------

But who IS the Phantom? Phoenix puts together all the
information he knows. The Phantom must have secured the
ladder as an escape route ahead of time. Aura says that she
put out the ladder, at the request of a detective.

Who is the Phantom? Select Detective Bobby Fulbright. He
was the one who secured the ladder, which the Phantom used
to escape.

Trial takes a short recess, before Fulbright is summoned to
the stand. Edgeworth leaves to take care of some business,
and Blackquill takes his place as the prosecutor for this
case. Meanwhile, Apollo takes his place as Phoenix's co-
counsel.

The Final Battle
----------------

Court reconvenes, and Detective Fulbright takes the stand.
He testifies about how he is innocent, and why Athena is
guilty.

Press the second statement, which is "I won't have you make
me into a villain with your far-fetched arguments!".
Fulbright reminds everyone about the lighter with Athena's
fingerprints on it. You get to choose what question to ask;
ask about "the number of prints".

Fulbright adds a statement to the end of his testimony,
about the fingerprints being from a right hand. At this,
present Aura's statement. She saw the culprit holding the
lighter with his left hand!

Fulbright suggests that Aura saw the lighter's reflection
in a mirror. After all, it's impossible for someone to hole
the lighter in a left hand, without covering up the
distinct Earth emblem on the side.

Apollo's bracelet reacts, which means you have to do the
perception challenge again. At the statement "the Earth
emblem", perceive Fulbright's left thumb. Something is odd
about that Earth emblem, it seems. You are given the chance
to examine the lighter, so look at the Earth emblem.

The lighter turns into the gun that the culprit used. At
this point, Phoenix and Apollo change tactics, by
questioning something else. Ask about "the owner of the
prints".

Apollo and Phoenix change tactics at this point, and they
question the integrity of the evidence. A quick examination
proves that Apollo and Phoenix are correct. The evidence
Fulbright submitted was phony! Specifically, the
fingerprints on the lighter are not Athena's. They really
belong to the victim, Clay Terran. Fulbright either faked
the evidence on purpose, or he mixed up the fingerprints by
accident.

The Phantom's Heart
-------------------

Fulbright confesses that he is an undercover agent,
assigned to catching the Phantom. Sadly, the Phantom has
taken Fulbright's family as hostages. The Phantom's ransom
demands included forging the evidence, securing the
Phantom's escape route and getting close to Blackquill.

Blackquill agrees with Fulbright's assertions, which makes
Fulbright happy. Athena interrupts the trial here, because
Fulbright's happiness is not coming across on her Mood
Matrix. In fact, her Mood Matrix shows that Fulbright has
no emotions at all!

Fulbright claims to have great control over his emotions,
as a result of his training as an undercover agent. A Mood
Matrix challenge follows. You want to find the one emotion
that is constant, so pinpoint the blue (fear) emotion at
the third statement, the one about the moon rock. Why does
Fulbright fear the moon rock? Say he is afraid because,
when the moon rock is examined, "Your identity will be
revealed".

Fulbright gives testimony about the Phantom and the moon
rock. Present the utility knife at the third statement,
about the Phantom fearing the moon rock. Phoenix correctly
deduces that when Athena stabbed the Phantom, seven years
ago, some of his blood got on the moon rock.

Sadly, the moon rock disappeared from the crime scene,
seven years ago. How did it disappear? Present "the Hope
capsule". The Phantom put the moon rock on the space probe,
and it's been in space for the past seven years.

Edgeworth arrives in the courtroom and reveals shocking
news: Detective Fulbright died last year. The man we know
as Fulbright is an imposter. The Phantom pulls off his
mask, and he says the moon rock can't prove his identity,
as it was destroyed in the courtroom bombing.

Was the moon rock really destroyed? Present the Phony
Phanty bomb, and select the black and yellow stone. It
looks like the moon rock, and DNA testing proves that the
blood on that rock fragment matches the witness' blood.

However, the witness claims the blood got on the rock, in
an unrelated incident. He goes so far as to claim the rock
is not the moon rock in question. Prove him wrong by
presenting the moon rock earring.

The Phantom has a breakdown when his identity is proven. An
assassin attacks him, and he is taken out of the courtroom
with a serious wound.

The Denouement
--------------

Outside the courtroom, our heroes talk to each other about
the trial, and everyone decides to get some food, on
Phoenix's tab. Phoenix has only one response to that:
OBJECTION!
