+---- INTRODUCTION -------------------------------------------------- [1.00] -+
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Welcome to my 9th walkthrough! I know no one cares about the introduction, but
there are a few things I'd like to bring up before we begin! Firstly,
Liberation Maiden is an awesome game. Forget those reviews scoring it harshly
because it's too short. Yes, it doesn't take long to beat, but it's exciting
and thrilling for the whole ride.
This guide is primarily a walkthrough for story mode. However, I have also
dedicated specific sections to both Stage Attack Mode and unlocking images in
the Gallery. If you'd like help or tips on either of those, hit up the table of
contents just above this to find where to scroll to.
I hope you find this guide useful!
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
+---- GAME BASICS --------------------------------------------------- [2.00] -+
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Liberation Maiden is effectively a third-person shooter. It shares many
similarities with more traditional arcade shooters, but breaks free of them by
being off-rails. If you've played the new Kid Icarus game on 3DS, you'll feel
right at home playing Liberation Maiden.
o==========-----------------------------------------------------==============o
| ~ STORY AND CHARACTERS ~ | [2.01] |
o==============-----------------------------------------------------==========o
The story in Liberation Maiden is not a primary focus, and little time is spent
explaining the world or characters. If you are interested in learning more, the
gallery provides more information as you unlock images. Alternatively, have a
read through this section and the Gallery Liberation section of the guide for a
run-down.
You play as Shoko Ozora, the second president of New Japan (who is, of course,
also a high shcool girl). After the previous president, her father, was
assassinated, she was elected into office and now fights against "The Dominion"
who are aiming for world domination. By using her Gundam-like weapon "Kamui,"
she fights to free New Japan from its conquerers.
-----------------------
SHOKO OZORA
-----------------------
The second president of New Japan. She is a young, attractive woman who was
elected into office after her father, the previous president, was assassinated.
She pilots the Liberator weapon known as "Kamui," and fights to free New Japan
from the control of the empire known as "The Dominion." She is the protagonist
of Liberation Maiden, and the player character.
-----------------------
KIRA
-----------------------
A member of the New Japan parliament and the First Secretary under Shoko. He
acts as both Shoko's guardian, political advisor and battle strategist. During
missions he will provide tactical tips, relay important information and guide
Shoko on her missions.
-----------------------
YOKUICHIRO OZORA
-----------------------
The first president of New Japan and Shoko's father. He was assassinated as he
led an uprising against The Dominion.
o==========-----------------------------------------------------==============o
| ~ CONTROLS AND MECHANICS ~ | [2.02] |
o==============-----------------------------------------------------==========o
While the controls are relatively straight forward, there are a few little
intricacies in terms of interface and mechanics that the game doesn't point
out for you. I detail them here.
-----------------------
CONTROLS
-----------------------
Controls are almost identical to Kid Icarus: Uprising, if you happen to have
played it. If not, or you need a refresher, check out the info below.
CIRCLE PAD >> Free movement.
CIRCLE PAD + [L] >> Move while strafing.
TOUCH SCREEN >> Fire weapon by tapping / locking-on / holding.
>> Activate Blade Attack when gauge is full.
>> Counterattack (when blade gauge is full and health hits 0).
>> Sacrifice Drive - spin stylus rapidly.

INTERFACE
-----------------------
While action takes place on the top screen, the bottom screen is equally
important in terms of controlling Shoko and managing what's happening with
Kamui.

health. The outer circles are your energy. This functions as both your shields

weapon.
The inner red circle is your health. Take enough hits with no shields and it's
game over. However, if your blade attack is fully charged, it will save you
from death.

WEAPONS
-----------------------
>> Deflector Node (aka Missiles)
Homing missiles you can lock-on to enemies with and then releas to fire.
Firing reduces your shield energy, and the missiles can be held down longer
to charge-up and deal more damage. Useful against all enemies, but slower
against Spikes.
>> Laser
A constant laser that can be held down to fire continuosuly. Weaker than the
missiles, but easier to aim and faster to use. The preferred weapon for
taking down Lesser and Greater Conduit Spikes.
>> Blade Attack
Once charged, Kamui's blade can be thrown to do massive area damage. Very
effective against almost all normal enemies, but completely ineffective
against Spikes, buildings and submarines.
o==========-----------------------------------------------------==============o
| ~ GAME MODES ~ | [2.03] |
o==============-----------------------------------------------------==========o
There are two primary game modes in Liberation Maiden: Story and Stage Attack.
Both have three different difficult levels and can be played multiple times for
a better score.
-----------------------
STORY MODE
-----------------------
Play through five consecutive missions and enjoy the main story of Liberation
Maiden. Each mission has a number of primary goals you must complete, along
with optional side-missions. Each is on a 30 minute time limit, but that's
more than enough to do everything. If you blaze through at full pace, each
mission can be cleared in 5 minutes when you know what you're doing.
Aside from focusing on the mission objectives, you can also purify the land by
destroying enemy structures. Doing so adds to your score, and reaching 100%
purification on each level is required for unlocking certain gallery images.
More on that in the walkthrough.
-----------------------
STAGE ATTACK MODE
-----------------------
In Stage Attack, you can pick to play any single level you have already beaten
on Story Mode. Though you can try and beat your own scores, think of this more
as a stage selection. You still have to sit through the dialogue, and your
missions are the same as in the main story.
-----------------------
SETTINGS
-----------------------
Here you can change the in-game volume and how strafing functions. I wouldn't
recommend messing with it unless you find regular strafing troublesome. You
can also delete your data from here.
-----------------------
RECORDS
-----------------------
This category has two major sections: score records and the gallery. The record
system keeps track of your top scores for each level in Stage Attack Mode,
along with your total score in Story Mode. It's also divided into each
difficulty.
The gallery has 28 locked images and 2 locked movies that you can view by
clearing certain goals within the main game. Tapping each lock tells you what
needs to be accomplished. If you're looking for tips on this, check out the
Gallery Liberation section of the guide.
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
+---- WALKTHROUGH [3.00] -----------------------------------------------------+
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
If you're stuck on a section of the game or looking to learn a few new things,
then you've come to the right section! This walkthrough aims to be as detailed
as possible about different events in the game and the best ways to complete
them. There are some spoilers, but I omit them where possible.
o==========-----------------------------------------------------==============o
| ~ STAGE 1: TOKYO ~ | [3.01] |
o==============-----------------------------------------------------==========o
PURIFICATION TIPS:
>> Destroy all targetable buildings.
>> Destroying Lesser Spikes purifies the area around them.
>> Destroy all bridges.
>> Take out buildings in the final island before you fight the boss.
O=============================================================================O
Let's get this started! You'll be treated to a stylish anime cutscene and then
the mission will begin. Kira will greet you and offer to explain the controls.
If this is your first time playing, definitely say "Yes" to get a feel for it.
--------------------------------------------------------
>>> PRIMARY MISSION: Destroy The Three Lesser Spikes <<<
--------------------------------------------------------
Once you're in control, destroy everything on the island in front of you. Tap
the touch screen to fire, but make sure to hold down and drag to select
multiple targets. Release to fire homing missiles. Notice that you can also
destroy some of the buildings. Doing so will purify the land and give you a
score boost. Try to purify as much as you can throughout the missions.
When the island is clear, look for the wind turbines and follow them. You'll
notice that if you travel in the same direction for an extended period, your
movement speed will increase. Handy.
Once you reach the next island, you'll see a Lesser Spike. Look for the big
red/pink circle in the middle. Target it and start attacking; its health is
displayed in a circle around it. Once it gets down to about 1/4 health, it
will pop out of the ground. Change your focus to attacking its base and you'll
have it down in no time.
+---+ It's worth noting that when you destroy a Lesser Spike, all buildings and
| ! | enemies nearby are destroyed and you gain all the points. As such, it's
+---+ far quicker and more effective to simply ignore all other targets around
a Lesser Spike, and simply focus on taking it out to clear an entire area at
once.
Kira will tell you two Lesser Spikes remain, so follow the arrow and head
across the bridge.
+------------------+
OPTIONAL MISSION
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
SUB-MISSION: Purify The Bridge
----------------------------------------------------------------------
>> Restrictions: 30 second time limit.

Kira may pop up to inform you that you need to purify the bridge. To
do so, head north towards your next destination, but target the
bridge with your missiles as you go. Make sure to take out the
actual bridge segments, as well as the enemies on them.

Even doing it perfectly, the time limit is quite restrictive, so
don't sweat it if you mess up, there's no penalty for failing.
Depending on the power of your missiles, you might need to hit the
same bridge segment multiple times, so keep your eyes peeled.

It's easy to tell when a segement as been purified, since it will
turn into a small forest island.

+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
OR
+------------------+
OPTIONAL MISSION
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
SUB-MISSION: Destroy All Battleships
----------------------------------------------------------------------
>> Restrictions: None.

As you approach the second Spike, Kira will ask you to eliminate the
five nearby battleships. Watch out for their homing missiles, and
find them all around the island.

+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
As you approach the next Lesser Spike, look out for the battleships in the
water. They will continually spam you with homing missiles until they're
take out, so make them your primary target before approaching the Spike.
Once they're down, destroy the Spike in the same way as you did the last.
Remember, destroying a Spike will also destroy enemies and purify the land
around it.
Once it's down, follow your destination arrow again and head across another
bridge. There's no sub-mission this time, but make sure to destroy all
segements in order to purify it.
On the next island you'll find another Lesser Spike. This one is more heavily
fortified, so there's two approaches you can take. Firstly, keep your
distance and remove nearby enemies to reduce the amount of dodging you'll
need to do. Alternatively, employ the same strategy as before and head
straight for the Spike, since destroying it will also kill other foes.
----------------------------------------------------------
>>> PRIMARY MISSION: Destroy The Greater Conduit Spike <<<
----------------------------------------------------------
Head across another bridge and purify it and you'll arive at the location of
the Greater Spike. At this point, your Purification should be at least 60%.
Keep your eyes peeled for when it appears on screen. Before moving to the
centre of the island, purify the buildings around the outer circle. You can
still hit these once the boss fight begins, but it's far easier to do so now.
+------------------+
BOSS FIGHT
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
CONDUIT SPIKE GREATER, MKI: LIGHT FLASH
----------------------------------------------------------------------
>> Purification Target Prior To Battle: 60% <<

>> PHASE 1
The Spike will deploy remote bombs (floating red things), so make
sure to either avoid them or shoot them down. They will keep coming
back though, so I personally prefer to avoid. It'll also shoot huge
purple circles that you can avid by going around, or sit in the
hollow middle circle. Keep shooting the Greater Spike at the top.

>> PHASE 2
The Spike will now rise slightly out of the ground and begin by
shooting small pink bullets. These are easy to dodge, so keep on the
move. Soon, it will start shooting a huge, constant red laser. Again,
keep moving to stay out of the way while shooting at the Spike. Keep
in mind that you're now shooting at its core, and it's not visible
from all side. Looking for a bright pink light in its centre.

>> PHASE 3+
At this stage, Light Flash's tactics won't change much. He will rise
out of the ground again, start shooting a second laser, and deploy
more remote bombs. Keep aiming for the pink core, using fully
charged shots whenever you can. Stay on the move. Things can start
getting really ugly when Light Flash uses four laser at once, but
keep moving inbetween them and you'll be fine.

>> SACRIFICE DRIVE
Eventually, the Greater Spike will be fully emerged and its true core
will appear. When this happes, your bottom screen will change to
display "Sacrifice Drive." Tap that button ASAP and you'll charge
directly at the Spike. Once inside it, start spinning on the touch
screen counter-clockwise until it's defeated.

+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
Once the mission is done, you'll get to see your score. It's based on enemies
defeated, your time and how much you purified.
o==========-----------------------------------------------------==============o
| ~ STAGE 2: KAGOSHIMA ~ | [3.02] |
o==============-----------------------------------------------------==========o
PURIFICATION TIPS:
>> Destroy all targetable buildings.
>> Fly over the entire stage area, not just where missions lead you.
O=============================================================================O
Kira will speak briefly, and then we're straight into it. You now have access
to a new weapon: the laser. Tap the top right corner of the touch screen to
swap back and forth. The laser is incredibly useful for taking out Spikes, and
it's a necessary tool for this mission.
-----------------------------------------------------
>>> PRIMARY MISSION: Find The Hidden Lesser Spike <<<
-----------------------------------------------------
Follow your destination arrow (or look at the map on the bottom screen) to
reach and island filled with enemies. Take out as many as you feel like and
look for any black "veins" that appear on the ground. On the west side of the
island, use your new laser weapon and shoot at the ground until you trace the
black veins back to their origin. When you do, Kira will pop up and a Lesser
Spike will be revealed. Take it out.
+---+ I personally use the laser as my weapon of choice against Lesser Spikes.
| ! | Keeping it constantly firing makes short work of them, and I also find
+---+ it much easier to target their base once they're fully emerged than with
the missile weapon.
------------------------------------------------
>>> PRIMARY MISSION: Destroy All Battleships <<<
------------------------------------------------
When the Spike is down, Kira will instruct you to destroy a fleet of nearby
battleships. Follow your arrow or look at the map to find them. The absolute
best strategy here is to launch your blade weapon in the middle of them. It
will annihilate them all in seconds. Alternatively, use either your missiles
or laser to take them out one by one.
While you're there, take a look at the nearby island for a whole bunch of
buildings to destroy and purify. You'll need to explore this level a fair bit
in order to get 100% purification.
Once the battelships are destroyed, a Lesser Spike will pop up where they were.
Take it out just like all the others.
-----------------------------------------------
>>> PRIMARY MISSION: Destroy All Submarines <<<
-----------------------------------------------
With the Spike destroyed, Kira will indicate a fleet of submarines that must be
destroyed. As you head over to them, a new sub-mission will pop-up.
+------------------+
OPTIONAL MISSION
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
SUB-MISSION: Destruction Of ICMBs
----------------------------------------------------------------------
>> Restrictions: None.

Nearby the fleet of submarines is a large island with two rocket-like
missiles standing tall. Fly over and destroy them both to clear this
easy sub-mission.

+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
Submarines can be a bit of a pain, since you need to wait for them to at least
partially surface to destroy them. Switch to your missile weapon (laser is far
less effective here) and wait for targeting reticules to appear in the water.
Target the subs, fully charge your shots, and take them out. Keep an eye out
for the missiles they shoot, too.
Like last time, a Lesser Spike will appear onces the subs are destroyed. Take
it out. I recommend swapping back to using the laser weapon.
----------------------------------------------------------
>>> PRIMARY MISSION: Destroy The Greater Conduit Spike <<<
----------------------------------------------------------
Now your final objective is to destroy the Greater Spike. If you're aiming to
have 100% purification, make sure you are at 100% PRIOR to the battle. Once
you engage the Spike, there is nothing left to purify.
+------------------+
BOSS FIGHT
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
CONDUIT SPIKE GREATER, MKII: GENBU
----------------------------------------------------------------------
>> Purification Target Prior To Battle: 100% <<

>> PHASE 1
Genbu will begin by shooting flaming boulders at you. Make sure to
equip your laser weapon and begin shooting the top of its centre.
Your laser will make short work of the boulders, just make sure to
never fully deplete your energy to avoid being left vulnerable.

>> PHASE 2
The Spike will emerge from the ground and create a barrier or rocks
around its core. Take them out with the laser and keep circling
around until tis pink core is visible and start shooting. You'll
likely have to take out the boulders again once it recreates them.

>> PHASE 3+
Both flaming rocks and boulder barriers will now be used at once.
Additionally, Genbu will strike with massive flaming pillars. You'll
see faint pillars of light before they strike, so keep your distance
and continue shooting the core.

>> SACRIFICE DRIVE
Eventually, the Greater Spike will be fully emerged and its true core
will appear. When this happens, your bottom screen will change to
display "Sacrifice Drive." Tap that button ASAP and you'll charge
directly at the Spike. Once inside it, start spinning on the touch
screen counter-clockwise until it's defeated.

+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
With the core destroyed, the stage is completed.
o==========-----------------------------------------------------==============o
| ~ STAGE 3: OSAKA ~ | [3.03] |
o==============-----------------------------------------------------==========o
PURIFICATION TIPS:
>> Look for purple towers to destroy.
>> Fully explore the level to find out-of-the-way buildings.
>> Destroy fuel tanks, even if you didn't get that sub-mission.
O=============================================================================O
Let's get started! The first mission objective is a little different this time.
-----------------------------------------------------------
>>> PRIMARY MISSION: Destroy The Base Inside The Castle <<<
-----------------------------------------------------------
Head into Osaka Castle and you'll be pushed lower and unable to fly over the
walls. Your goal is to work your way inwards and avoid the sentry robots who
will looking for you with large, bright red tracking areas. Stay out of the
red and fly in.
If you are detected, the area you are in will be sealed off and a dozen or
so enemies will appear. It can get pretty hectic, so avodiing detection is
definitely the best option.
Once you're in the centre of the castle, destroy the Walker production
building in the centre (it looks a bit like a Lesser Spike). Once it's done,
a real Lesser Spike will pop up, so take it out and the area will be purified.
When it's down, you'll be able to fly high and leave Osaka castle.
--------------------------------------------------------
>>> PRIMARY MISSION: Destroy The Enemy Radar Station <<<
--------------------------------------------------------
Look at the map and find your way to the radar station. See those red beams
of light? Stay out of them. Like the previous objective, being detected by them
is bad news. If you are detected, the radars are shielded and you'll be under
attack from lasers. If this happens, deploy a blade attack to take out the new
enemies and then fly far away for the shields to be deactivated. Return and try
again.
To avoid detection, fly slowly and move in and out. Laser or missile weapons
work well, so pick one and start taking out the dishes. Once all five are
destroyed, a Lesser Spike will pop up. Defeat it.
-------------------------------------------------------
>>> PRIMARY MISSION: Destroy The Source Of The Smog <<<
-------------------------------------------------------
When the Lesser Spike is down, you'll be instructed to take out the cause of
heavy smog that is covering your next target. As you fly over, you'll be given
a sub-mission.
+------------------+
OPTIONAL MISSION
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
SUB-MISSION: Destroy Enemy Fuel Tanks
----------------------------------------------------------------------
>> Restrictions: Destroying a small tank results in failure.

One of only a few sub-missions that can be outright failed. Head over
to the site of the fuel tanks and notice that there are both big and
small ones. Pull out our laser and destroy one o the large ones to
trigger a chain reaction.

If you blow up a small tank, the chain reaction does not occur and
the sub-mission fails.

+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
OR
+------------------+
OPTIONAL MISSION
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
SUB-MISSION: Destroy 10 Enemy Walkers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
>> Restrictions: None.

Fly to your destination and look at the ground to spot enemy walkers.
Pick either of your weapons and begin to take them out. While there
aren't 10 there to begin with, more will spawn. Once 10 are
destroyed, the objective is complete.

+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
OR
+------------------+
OPTIONAL MISSION
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
SUB-MISSION: Destroy the Missile Plants.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
>> Restrictions: None.

Head over to the sub-mission destination and you should see rows of
tiny buildings. They're the missile plants. Destroy all 14 to beat
this side-mission. As an aside, blade attack will not destroy them,
so just keep shooting.

+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
If you're done with the sub-mission, head towards the smog and you'll see six
beacons around its edge. Fly around and destroy them. Once they're done a
Lesser Spike will appear, so take it out.
----------------------------------------------------------
>>> PRIMARY MISSION: Destroy The Greater Conduit Spike <<<
----------------------------------------------------------
With the third Lesser Spike down, it's time to take on the Greater one. Head
over to the area and destroy the buildings and towers surrounding the boss
to finish purifying them. While you can take them out once the fight begins,
it's easier to do so now.
+------------------+
BOSS FIGHT
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
CONDUIT SPIKE GREATER, MKIII: STEEL TIGER
----------------------------------------------------------------------
>> Purification Target Prior To Battle: 80%/100% <<

>> PHASE 1 & 2
Very easy. Watch out for the large blades it throws and just use
your laser to attack its top.

>> PHASE 3
Now it gets nasty. A mech drops down in front of the Spike and both
defends it and attacks you. Swap to your missile weapon and keep
targetting, fully charging, and attacking the enemy mech until it
is stunned. Once it is, circle around the Spike to find its pink core
and attack. Keep an eye out for the Spike's laser beams too. If you
get stuck in a web, wiggle the circle pad left and right to break it
quickly, as the mech will attack while you're trapped.

>> PHASE 4
Believe it or not, things now get much worse. As soon as this phase
begins, the Spike will deploy massive laser walls. Stay between them
as they close in. If you stay between them, they will disappear just
before hitting you. While dodging that, keep using missiles to stun
the mech and then use your laser to attack the vulnerable Spike core.

When Steel Tiger is destroyed, the mission is over.

o==============-----------------------------------------------------==========o
PURIFICATION TIPS:
>> Look for hidden buildings behind mountains.
>> Fully explore the level to find out-of-the-way buildings.
O=============================================================================O
Swap to your laser weapon as soon as the mission begins.
-----------------------------------------------------
>>> PRIMARY MISSION: Find The Hidden Lesser Spike <<<
-----------------------------------------------------
Head forwards to find your destination marked on the map. Once you get there,
take out the nearby enemies and then use your laser to shoot at the ground and
uncover veins, ultimately revealing the Lesser Spike. Destroy it.
If you're up to the challenge, don't defeat any enemies, but go straight for
the Lesser Spike. Doing so will produce a 75+ kill Chain which is great for
your score and will unlock a gallery image.
-----------------------------------------------------
>>> PRIMARY MISSION: Find The Hidden Lesser Spike <<<
-----------------------------------------------------
When the previous one is down, you're instructed to reveal another hidden
Spike. On your way, a sub-mission will appear.
+------------------+
OPTIONAL MISSION
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
SUB-MISSION: Find What Lies Hidden Beneath The Snow
----------------------------------------------------------------------
>> Restrictions: None.

Turn around if you were on the way to your next obbjective and head
towards the mountains marked on your map with the Sub-Mission "S".
When you get there, use your laser to locate a piece of Cake. Yes,
you read that correctly, CAKE, hidden in the mountains. It's roughly
in the centre of the icon of your map, right next t a building that
can be destroyed for purification purposes.

+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
OR
+------------------+
OPTIONAL MISSION
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
SUB-MISSION: Destroy 30 Enemy Weapons
----------------------------------------------------------------------
>> Restrictions: None.

A very straight-forward mission. Simply destroy any 30 enemies
anywhere on the Stage and you're done.

+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
OR
+------------------+
OPTIONAL MISSION
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
SUB-MISSION: Scout over and under the bridges.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
>> Restrictions: None.

When you get this sub-mission, you're already at the right location.
Take a look at the bridges in your vicinity and fly over and under
them and eliminate any hostiles. When they're down, you will have
beaten this sub-mission.

+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
Once you've had your cake and eaten it too, head back towards your primary
objective and you'll find a flat snowfield filled with enemies. Use your laser
to uncover the hidden Spike in its centre and destroy it. Again, a large combo
chain is possible if you destroy the Spike before the surrounding enemies.
-------------------------------------------
>>> PRIMARY MISSION: Destroy The Trains <<<
-------------------------------------------
Look on your map for hexagons with bits sticking out; these are the supply
trains that need to be destroyed. The trains can take quite a few hits before
they go down, and I found the missile weapon when fully charged to be most
effective. Once all trains in an area are destroyed, the icon will disappear
from your map, so it's easy to find where to go.
Once the eighth train is destroyed, a ninth will appear. Destroy it, and a
Lesser SPike will be revealed right next to it. Taking out the Spike before
the enemies will create a 60+ combo chain, which is another chance to unlock
the related gallery image.
----------------------------------------------------------
>>> PRIMARY MISSION: Destroy The Greater Conduit Spike <<<
----------------------------------------------------------
With that done, the path to the Greater Spike is open. Fly over there and, if
you want the level complete, make sure your purification is at 100% before you
approach. I found the following fight to be the easiest in the game.
+------------------+

CONDUIT SPIKE GREATER, MKIV: LAKE DEMON
----------------------------------------------------------------------
>> Purification Target Prior To Battle: 100% <<

>> PHASE 1
Shoot out the top half and watch out for the ice crystals it shoots.
I find the laser to be effective here. Shake the circle pad if you
get frozen.

>> PHASE 2
Switch to the bottom half and attack the core. Watch out for the blue
laser it fires, and the aurora-like walls it will eventually deploy.
Like the last boss, just stay between them and you'll be fine.

>> PHASE 3
The Lake Demon will surround itself in a red barrier. When this is
up, it will reflect attacks back at you, so stick to dodging. Once it
drops the barrier, circle around to find the core and use your laser
to destroy it.

>> SACRIFICE DRIVE
Eventually, the Greater Spike will be fully emerged and its true core

+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
Beat it, and something crazy will happen. For now though, your mission is done.
o==========-----------------------------------------------------==============o
| ~ STAGE 5: MT. FUJI ~ | [3.05] |
o==============-----------------------------------------------------==========o
Nothing to purify on this stage.
O=============================================================================O
This stage is pretty much just a boss battle, but a rather complicated one.
---------------------------------------------------
>>> PRIMARY MISSION: Persue The Guardian Spirit <<<
---------------------------------------------------
As this stage begins, you'll technically be in a boss battle. At this point,
all you need to do is follow the phoenix. Equip your laser and shoot at the
purple orbs it deploys behind it. Getting hit by any will deal serious damage,
so make sure to never be fully depleted of energy. Fire the laser in short
bursts.
Note that you don't actually have to catch up to the phoenix, just don't fall
too far behind and wait until the timer in the top-right corner runs out. This
is also a great opportunity to get a chain of over 100 to unlock an image in
the gallery. It's possible to get a chain of 300+ during his sequence.
+------------------+
BOSS FIGHT
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
YATAGARASU, GUARDIAN SPIRIT
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a hard fight, and pretty much the only thing in the game
noticably more difficult on Hard Mode. So, the Spirit has five Spikes
imapled in it. Destroy all five and you win. Each time you take out
a Spike, you reduce the number of attacks it has. As such, order,
especially on Hard, is very important.

>> Spike Kill Order <<
1) Chest
2/3) Left/Right Wing
4) Head
5) Feet

This order eliminates its most difficult attacks first. However, if
you are having difficulty dodging its shockwaves, you may want to
destroy the wings before the chest. Always user laser on the Spikes.

So, let's talk about how you'll stay alive while you're getting that
done. Firstly, its chest attack puts up a massive shield that makes
the Spirit invulnerable. Swap to missile weapon and target the four
rings in the corners to destroy it.

Far too often, it will attack with its wings by sending out
waves of shockwaves. Dodge them as best you can, since it's almost
impossible to do damage during this time. This is by far his most
dangerous attack, and if you're having trouble with it, eliminate
the wings first. The shockwaves move even faster on Hard and you may
want to make them a priority.

From his head he will shoot meteors which are relatively simple to
dodge and no more difficult than anything past Greater Spikes have
thrown at you. He can also create a tornado that sucks you in. Just
pull back on the circle pad to resist.

Lastly, from the feet is a blinding attack that reduces your
visibility. While slightly annoying, it's not a major issue which is
why I recommend leaving the feet for last.

Regardless of how you defeat the spikes, he has two other attacks:
the same purple orbs you dodged at the beginning of the mission, and
some easy to shoot down missiles. No real problems there.
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
Once all five spikes are destroyed, Yatagarasu is defeated and the game is
over. Watch the final cutscene, and, if you want more, start working on
unlocking the gallery images. Scroll down to find out more about that.
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
+---- STAGE ATTACK MODE [4.00] -----------------------------------------------+
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Stage Attack Mode functions as both a level select and an arcade-style set your
highest score. You can unlock this mode by clearing the matching stage in Story
Mode. You'll need to clear each Story Mode on the corresponding difficulty in
order to unlock that difficulty in Stage Attack.
Each mission plays aout exactly the same in Stage Attack as it does in Story.
As such, I won't be providing a step-by-step guide on how to clear each stage.
If you need help with it, scroll up and refer to the main walkthrough. Instead,
this section will provide some general tips and tactics to raise your score.
>> PRIORITISE LESSER SPIKES <<
------------------------------
When you reach an area with a Lesser Spike, destroy it immediately. Ignore all
other nearby enemies or purification targets, since the shockwave after the
Spike is destroyed will clear it all out, create a massive combo Chain, and
still give you all the points. Use the laser to beat them faster.
>> CLEAR SUB-MISSIONS <<
------------------------
While clearing a sub-mission doesn't grant you any extra points, defeating the
enemies involved in them will. Most take less that 1-minute to beat and are
worth going to the trouble of doing. If, for some reason, a sub-mission takes
you too far away from your primary goal, ignore it.
>> 100% PURIFICATION <<
-----------------------
The more you purify, the greater score bonus you get at the end of a stage.
There's no simple way to do this quickly except for learning each level and
where you need to go to purify it. Arguably, you may end up with a higher
score if you only purify areas where the primary mission takes you. I'm still
experimenting with this.
>> TIME <<
----------
Obvious, but important. The faster you clear a stage, the better time bonus
score you'll get at the end. All missions can be beat easily under 5 minutes if
you know what you're doing.
>> DON'T WASTE TIME DEFEATING LONE ENEMIES <<
---------------------------------------------
Many missions have small groups of enemies away from primary mission goals or
inbetween them. Don't stop to kill small groups, since the points they provide
are negligible. Just focus on your main goal, with the exception being...
>> CHAIN COMBOS <<
------------------
Deafeating consecutive enemies quickly will increase your Chain count and your
score multiplier. Keep moving quickly and kill enemies as you go to keep that
Chain count up high.
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
+---- GALLERY LIBERATION [5.00] ----------------------------------------------+
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
To begin with, all images and movies in the gallery are locked. This section
of the guide will help you open them all.
>> HONOR NO. 01 - "Make preparations for war." <<
-------------------------------------------------
> Reward: World History [1]
Simply start playing story mode and this will unlock.
>> HONOR NO. 02 - "Maneuvered in strafing mode." <<
---------------------------------------------------
> Reward: World History [2]
Hold down [L] and move around to strafe. That's it.
>> HONOR NO. 03 - "Reached the edge of the combat zone." <<
-----------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: World History [3]
On any mission, fly to the edge of the map and encounter a red wall.
>> HONOR NO. 04 - "Attacked with the Liberator's blade." <<
-----------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: World History [4]
Deploy Kamui's blade weapon on any mission by defeating enough enemies and then
drawing it on the touch screen from the top-left corner.
>> HONOR NO. 05 - "Completed a Sub Mission." <<
-----------------------------------------------
> Reward: World History [5]
Any of them will do. Take a look at the walkthrough for details.
>> HONOR NO. 06 - "Used all attack variations." <<
--------------------------------------------------
> Reward: World History [6]
Slightly tricky. Here us a list of what you need to do:
- Missile attack.
- Laser attack.
- Liberator blade attack.
- Sacrifice Drive.
- Counterattack.
All of those should happen naturally as you play, except for maybe counter-
attack. To activate it, make sure your blade attack gauge is full, and then get
hit until you die. You will then be saved from death and counterattack with the
blade. It's pretty fun.

through Story mode or Stage Attack a second time.
>> HONOR NO. 13 - "Destroyed 50 battleships." <<
-----------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: Enemy 3 - Battleship
Self-explanatory. This will happen at some stage, though you might need to play
through Story mode or Stage Attack a second time.
>> HONOR NO. 14 - "Destroyed 50 cannons." <<
-----------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: Enemy 2 - Gun Battery
Self-explanatory. This will happen at some stage, though you might need to play
through Story mode or Stage Attack a second time.
>> HONOR NO. 15 - "Destroyed 30 submarines." <<
-----------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: Enemy 4 - Submarine
Self-explanatory. This will happen at some stage, though you might need to play
through Story mode or Stage Attack a second time.
>> HONOR NO. 16 - "Destroyed 100 walkers." <<
-----------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: Enemy 5 - Walker
Self-explanatory. This will happen at some stage, though you might need to play
through Story mode or Stage Attack a second time.
>> HONOR NO. 17 - "Destroyed 50 supply trains." <<
-----------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: Enemy 6 - Turret Train
Self-explanatory. Supply Trains are only found in Stage 4 - Hokkaido. You'll
need to play that mission a number of times to get this.
>> HONOR NO. 18 - "Played a total of two hours." <<
-----------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: Enemy 7 - Lesser Conduit Spike
Self-explanatory. Beat the campaign twice and you'll likely be at about 2. It
seems that the game only counts actual in-mission time.
>> HONOR NO. 19 - "Played a total of four hours." <<
-----------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: Enemy 8 - Greater Conduit Spike
Self-explanatory. It seems that the game only counts actual in-mission time,
since when I unlocked this gallery image, my 3DS records had me playing
Liberation Maiden at just over 8 hours.
>> HONOR NO. 20 - "Completed over 50 chains." <<
-----------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: Character 1 - Shoko Ozora
To get a combo of 50, the easiest way to do it is destroy a Lesser Conduit
Spike while all enemies are still around it. A guaranteed place to do this is
with either the first or third Lesser Spike on Stage 4 - Hokkaido.
>> HONOR NO. 21 - "100% Purification in Stage 1." <<

>> HONOR NO. 24 - "100% Purification in Stage 4." <<
-----------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: Tech 2 - Parliamentary Battleship Nagata
Check the walkthrough for tips on completing purification.
>> HONOR NO. 25 - "Completed over 100 chains." <<
-----------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: Kamui Attack 1 - Defelector Nodes
The easiest place to get a combo of 100 is on the final mission. When Stage 5
begins and you chase Yatagarasu, use your laser in short bursts to hit the
purple orbs. By the time the chase is done, your chain count can easily exceed
300.
>> HONOR NO. 26 - "Cleared a stage without taking damage." <<
-----------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: Kamui Attack 2 - Blade
Mostly down to your own skill. You can do this on the Easy difficulty. So, if
you don't get it naturally, try Stage 1 or 2 on Easy.
>> HONOR NO. 27 - "Played the game over 10 times in Normal mode." <<
--------------------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: Kamui Attack 3 - Sacrifice Drive
What is unclear to me at this stage is if Story Mode is included in this. If
it is, I believe a full play of Story mode only counts as "1." If that is the
case, the fastest way to get this is by playing individual levels of Stage
Attack, which all definitely count as 1 each.
>> HONOR NO. 28 - "Played the game over 10 times in Hard mode." <<
--------------------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: Kamui Attack 4 - Laser Attack
What is unclear to me at this stage is if Story Mode is included in this. If
it is, I believe a full play of Story mode only counts as "1." If that is the
case, the fastest way to get this is by playing individual levels of Stage
Attack, which all definitely count as 1 each.
>> HONOR NO. 29 - "Cleard Stage 1 in Story Mode." <<
--------------------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: Opening Anime Cutscene.
Easy. Just beat Stage 1 on Story Mode in any difficulty.
>> HONOR NO. 30 - "Obtained 100% approval rating." <<
--------------------------------------------------------------------
> Reward: Closing Anime Cutscene.
The description is confusing, but you'll notice at the end of story mode that
you get a "Public Approval" rating. I'm uncsure exactly what gets this to 100%,
but I'm assuming it's to do with amount of enemies destroyed. 100% Purification
doesn't appear to be required, nor does completing it in a certain amount of
time.
I got it on my very first play, so I can't be too hard.
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
+---- FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ) [6.00] --------------------------------+
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Stumped? Have a question about the game you just can't find an answer to? Then
hopefully this section can help you out! Here you can find some of the more
commonly asked questions about the game and their answers. If it doesn't help,
try scrolling up and looking through the walkthrough.
Q. I just beat Stage 5 and the credits rolled. Is that really it?
A. Yup, that's it. Liberation Maiden is incredibly short and will likely only
take you 1-2 horus to beat. After that, you can work on unlocking gallery
images or beating your scores.
Q. Gallery Image #30 talks about an approval rating. What is that?
A. It's a strange way of saying beat the main story mode. Do that and it will
unlock.
Q. I can't unlock the "use every type of attack" image in the gallery. Why?
A. Aside from using both the missile, laser and blade weapons, you also need to
perform a counterattack. To do so, make sure your blade attack is fully
charge, and then keep taking damage until it kills you. With a fully charged
blade, you will survive on a small amount of health and perform a counter-
attack.
Q. I can't get 100% purification on a stage. Tips?
A. I've tried to give a general guide to this in the walkthrough and gallery
sections, but it can be a bit tough. Keep an eye out for any buildings or
towers and make sure to blow them up. Just keep flying over.
Q. How do I beat the final boss on Hard?
A. Take a look at the walkthrough. I've provided a useful strategy there that
will significantly help with the Hard version.
Q. What does the "chain" thing on the interface mean?
A. It's just your combo count. Kill enemies fast enough and it will go up and
multiply your score.
Q. How hard is this to play as a left-hander?
A. I'm right-handed, so I can't confirm for sure, but I would guess much
harder. Since your only movement controls are the circle pad, that means
you'll be doing the intricate work with your right hand. As far as I'm
aware, there's no settings to help. The game isn't super-difficult anyway,
though.
Q. Is there any point to completing sub-missions?
A. You need to beat one (any one) to unlock an image in the gallery. Aside from
that, they just provide opportunities to boost your score.
Q. I seem to get different sub-missions each time I play. Why is that?
A. I'm not yet certain, but it appears there are a couple of sub-missions per
Stage, but you'll only be given one each play. As a result, you'll have some
variation, even on the same Stage.
