Version Updates
*****************************************
===============================================================================
-----------------------------------------------
I. Version: 0.7 - Updated When: 12/6/03- KB: 12
-----------------------------------------------
-Just started the FAQ format, got all the legal info taken care of.
-Added the teams section, and as this is not a top priority FAQ, do not
expect super frequent updates.
------------------------------------------------
II. Version: 0.8 - Updated When: 12/7/03- KB: 26
------------------------------------------------
-Errr...that whole thing I said about frequent updates? Scratch that. This
should be the last version unless I think of something else to add in.
-I got so much done because it snowed and I had nothing to do because I was
trapped inside, so instead of doing something constructive, I decided to
finish this pointless FAQ =)!
-Basically did everything, from Co-Op to finishing the special kicks
and such.
-------------------------------------------------
III. Version: 1.0 - Updated When: 12/8/03- KB: 28
-------------------------------------------------
-Well, as short as this game is, I just decided to finish it.
-Made passwords section, completed field section, and finally found
out the number of steps per person for a special shot.
-This will be my last unless I find any errors when it is posted,
but other than that, enjoy my completed FAQ!
------------------------------------------------
IV. Version: 1.0 - Updated When: 2/22/05- KB: 32
------------------------------------------------
Just updated my contact info, and made the snotty and boring
legal section shorter.
-----------------------------------------------
V. Version: 1.0 - Updated When: 7/17/09- KB: 32
-----------------------------------------------
Contact info update, and fixed a few layout problems.
Shout outs to anyone who still plays this!

I. About This FAQ
***************************************
===============================================================================
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
1. Why Make It?
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
I've always been a gaming fan, and GameFAQs has helped me out with a lot of
things: it is always a reliable source for codes, it has reviews by the
gamers, for other gamers, and best of all, has "homemade" FAQs submitted by
gamers for free. I'm sure like most of you, GameFAQs has saved me a bundle of
time and money, for if I get stuck on an area, no longer must I search the
Internet through the fake crap or go out and buy a $15 strategy guide. So what
I'm saying is, I "owe" GameFAQs, and this is my way of paying it back. Plus
this is just a kick ass NES game.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
2. Misc. Questions
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Any questions you have for me that are NOT about this or one of my other
FAQs can be answering by emailing me with the topic of the email being
"Misc. Ques". I will help out with whatever I can, but remember, if there's a
FAQ on it, check there first.

1. Controls
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
I know what your thinking...Controls?!?! The pad only has two buttons!! I

While moving
------------
-Do a special head-but shot.
Wow, I think I got arthritis from typing that comprehensive section!
Anyway... moving on...
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
2. Game Modes
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
==============
World Cup Mode
==============
-Basically, you vs. the other teams of the world, as you try to take you
selected team to the top. Includes passwords to continue where you left off.
==========
Co-Op Mode
==========
-You and a friend (or enemy...) get to take on the World Cup Mode, or you and
three others can play (with 4 player satellite thing) a multiplayer mode, which
is just one exhibition match on a wide variety of fields.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
3. The Special Kicks
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
In this section, I will list the special kicks, describe what they look like
when they occur, and their usefulness rating out of 5 *'s, 5 being the highest
and 1 being the lowest.
=======================
How to do special kicks
=======================
A + B Standing Still
--------------------
-Does a bicycle kick, thus causing the special kick to happen. Ball needs to
be in the air to perform.
A + B Direction Pad Left/Right
------------------------------
-Does a head butt move, causing player to leap forward and hit ball with
their head. Ball needs to be on the ground to perform.
Regular kick
------------
-After a certain number of steps (depending on the player) you will do a
special kick, or, if you have already used all of your special kicks, you
will do a power kick. The following is a list for the number of steps
required by each character (on Team USA):
_____________________________________________
/ Character | Number of Steps \
----------------------------------------------
|1. Tony | 7 Steps |
----------------------------------------------
|2. Davy | 3 Steps |
----------------------------------------------
|3. Brian | 3 Steps |
----------------------------------------------
|4. Terry | 7 Steps |
----------------------------------------------
|5. Mark | 7 Steps |
----------------------------------------------
|6. Don | 3 Steps |
----------------------------------------------
|7. Phil | 7 Steps |
----------------------------------------------
|8. Fred | 7 Steps |
----------------------------------------------
**NOTE** The 2nd to last on the list (this list is not in order I
don't think) takes only 5 steps for Germany and 11-13 for Italy.
See special thanks for the contributor who sent this.

==================
Team Special Kicks
==================
U.S.A
-----
-Is just a straight kick, ball looks flat when hit.
-Overall Usefulness: ***
Holland
-------
-Just like the USA's, except ball looks flat and is traveling diagonally.
-Overall: ***
Japan
-----
-Exactly like the USA's.
-Overall: ***
Cameroon
--------
-Alternates from USA special to normal ball, opposing goalie can catch it
while it is in normal ball form.
-Overall: **
Russia
------
-Starts off as a pinkish bubble, then explodes into USA special.
-Overall: ***
Mexico
------
-Does a weird zigzag line, looks kind of like this:
_______
/ \ _/
/ \ _/
/ _/
/ _/
/ _/
/ _/
\_____/
Weird I know, but its extremely hard to block and never misses going at the
goal.
-Overall: ****
England
-------
-Is like the USA, but the ball becomes possessed and makes really weird
shapes.
-Overall: ***
Spain
-----
-Exactly like Cameroon's, from special to normal.
-Overall: **
Brazil
------
-Ball splits into two, then goes into USA form, more powerful though.
-Overall: ****
W.Germany
---------
-Goes into diagonal shape, alternated up and down while moving forward, very
easy to miss goal.
-Overall: *
Argentina
---------
-It's like Mexico's, but better, more powerful and harder to stop by goalie.
-Overall: *****
Italy
-----
-Exactly like USA's.
-Overall: ***

4. Strategies
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
In this section I will show and recommend what to choose before the game
starts. These are the questions that the game asks before you start a match.
They are separated into the questions they ask and the answers that you pick.
==========================
"Your offensive strategy?"
==========================
Pass the ball
-------------
-This tells your teammates to pass to each other as a standard strategy
instead of trying to run the ball down I the field. I would recommend this.
Use dribble
-----------
-Teammates dribble up field, very easy to tackle, not recommended.
===============================
"Should G.K. (Goalie) join in?"
===============================
Yes
---
-Uh...I think it means the goalie joins in. A BIG NO-NO!
No
--
-Use this, trust me.
==============================
"Should your teammates shoot?"
==============================
Yes, frequently
---------------
-Teammates take all decent shots. I usually pick this, but it is all a matter
of preference.
Sometimes
---------
-Take less open shots. Remember you can still control when they shoot by
pushing the B button when they are in control of the ball.
No, not at all
--------------
-Teammates never take shots without your command.
=========================
"You Defensive Strategy?"
=========================
Try to tackle
-------------
-Defensive men try to tackle any and all opposing team members without your
command. Your teammates will often hurt themselves on later opponents
though, so not recommended.
Mark the opponent
-----------------
-Defensive men follow the opponent until you order them to tackle or slide.
Recommended because you can tell your teammates to slide and avoid being
hurt. Unfortunately, your teammates are sometimes too slow to mark the
opponents.
So, for a quick summary on my recommended settings is this:
______________________________________________________________
/ Question | Recommended Choice \
--------------------------------------------------------------|
|1. Your Offensive Strat.? | Pass the Ball
--------------------------------------------------------------|
|2. Should G.K join in? | No
--------------------------------------------------------------|
|3. Should teammates shoot? | Yes, frequently
--------------------------------------------------------------|
|4. Your Defensive Strat.? | Mark the opponent
--------------------------------------------------------------|

III. The Teams
***************************************
===============================================================================
Well, since I can't really give a what to do kind of walkthrough for this game
since you are never in the same situation, I will list the teams giving you
their strengths and weaknesses in order to have a better idea of what you will
be facing.
**Note** Your team (the players faces) is the same no matter what country you
pick, the only difference is between the special kicks and their uniform and
skin color.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
1. World Cup Mode
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
In this section I will show the teams in order, as well as their difficulty
(out of 5 *'s again) level in speed, strength, and overall as well as some
general strategies for each.
**Note** I believe the teams are in order of appearance; I will have to check
this out later, because I am doing this all on (a pretty bad) memory.
***BIGGER Note*** I have just been informed that the tougher teams CAN
be tackled, thanks to DHouston for this info, all you have to do is keep
your teammates "health" up by not letting them get tackled/slid into. If
you continue to slide into the opponents, lowering their "health", this
will open them up to a tackle.
========
Cameroon
========
Speed: *
Strength: *
Overall Difficulty: *
-They will utterly destroy you.
=====
Japan
=====
Speed: *
Strength: *
Overall: *
-Again, really easy, just play normally and you should have no problem
winning.
======
France
======
Speed: *
Strength: * 1/2
Overall: * 1/2
-The only thing different is that sometimes your tackles won't work; you can
still use them most of the time.
======
Russia
======
Speed: *
Strength: **
Overall: * 1/2
-Again, some tackles won't work, just keep in there and you'll do fine.
=====
Spain
=====
Speed: **
Strength: **
Overall: **
-This team finally starts to show teamwork, they like to head but a lot so
watch out for that. Now is when you should abandon tackles and stick with the
slides just to be safe.
=======
England
=======
Speed: ** 1/2
Strength: ** 1/2
Overall: ** 1/2
-Same as Spain, except they rely on their decent special kick than head butt
special kicks, remember to keep moving back and forth on the field, because
they will not hesitate to score past your sub-par defenders, so never leave
your defense by themselves.
======
Mexico
======
Speed: ***
Strength: ** 1/2
Overall: ***
-Finally some challenge, abandon your tackles here, no chance of getting any
more, watch out for their long passes into your side of the field, remember to
take all of your special shots early to try to get a head start lead, but also
remember that they will block some straight on ones.
=======
Holland
=======
Speed: ** 1/2
Strength: ** 1/2
Overall: ** 1/2
-Actually easier if I remember, they may be in the wrong placement. They are
open for tackles but rely on slides. Not too much to do here, just get some
early scores and play hard defense or time draining offense for an easy win.
They do play good offense so make sure to go back to your side when they head
up the field.
======
Brazil
======
Speed: *** 1/2
Strength: ***
Overall: ***
-Very similar to Mexico, except they are more fond of running the ball then
they are of passing it. This means you'll be doing a lot of slides. Remember
to watch out for their above average special kick that they will perform
often if left open for a shot.
=====
Italy
=====
Speed: **** 1/2
Strength: ****
Overall: **** 1/2
-Mama mia! They are extremely fast and all three of their defenders chase you.
Pass often and use your specials shots to gain an early led, be warned that the
Italian goalie will block like half of them. Go for an early slide on D so that
they do not get past you, for if they do, your defense will be semi-helpless.
=========
Argentina
=========
Speed: *****
Strength: ****
Overall: *****
-By FAR the hardest team to beat, why the hell weren't these guys last? Their
speed is incredible; you will have to almost plan your slides ahead to stop
them. Their D is REALLY hard to get passed. Although this game is rather easy
as a whole, this team will definitely push you as far as this game has to
offer. Pass often and keep the goalie under pressure.
==========
W. Germany
==========
Speed: ***
Strength: *****
Overall: ****
-Actually not very hard, they got four *'s just for their unmatched toughness.
Hell, sometimes-even SLIDES don't work against them. Stick to your basic
strategies and you will prevail, especially since this will seem like cake
after the hellish match with Argentina.
=====
U.S.A
=====
Speed: ???
Strength: ???
Overall: ???
-This team replaces whatever team you picked, so if you picked Italy,
then you will face U.S.A in place of Italy when you get to them. They are
basically the same skill as the team you would normally have faced.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
2. Co-Op Mode
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
This section is for the teams available in multiplayer mode. Although all the
teams are relatively the same, some have a little more to offer than others.
=====
U.S.A
=====
Speed: ***
Strength: ***
Overall: ***
-Just your standard team, pretty rounded.
======
France
======
Speed: ***
Strength: ** 1/2
Overall: ***
-Just a little weaker than USA.
==========
W. Germany
==========
Speed: ***
Strength: ****
Overall: *** 1/2
-Just a little stronger than USA.
=======
England
=======
Speed: ***
Strength: ***
Overall: ***
-Standard, a rounded out team.
=====
Italy
=====
Speed: ****
Strength: ***
Overall: *** 1/2
-Italy is slightly faster than USA but just as strong.
===============================================================================
***************************************
The Fields
***************************************
===============================================================================
This is a section just on the fields that appear and their properties.
=====
Grass
=====
-The standard field for the World Cup mode, it is extremely balanced, and
extremely boring, still, good nonetheless.
====
Soil
====
-Just like the grass except that has a little more traction, which means the
ball travels slower when rolling on the ground.
====
Sand
====
-Just like soil, except slightly more traction.
=====
Bumpy
=====
-This is a fun one; it has grass traction, but bumps in the ground that count
as you getting tackled when you run into them. Definitely a fun field,
especially with four players.
========
Concrete
========
-Not really sure, I think it has less traction that grass, but that's it.
===
Ice
===
-Also really fun, there is almost no traction and your tackles and slides go
all over the place.
===============================================================================
***************************************
V. Passwords
***************************************
===============================================================================
Well, you could disregard my whole FAQ and all the effort I put into it by
using these codes, and you probably will! Anyway...these passwords get you
to a desired stage.
-2nd Match: 10311
-3rd Match: 30711
-4th Match: 01511
-5th Match: 22011

-7th Match: 11511
-8th Match: 42411
-9th Match: 62611
-10th Match: 60211
-Semifinals: 22311

===============================================================================
***************************************
VI. Cheap Tactics
***************************************
===============================================================================
So, you wanna' win but don't want to cheat, huh? Good for you! Well
there is one really cheap tactic you should know about. If I find
any more worth mentioning, you can bet that YOU will be the first one to
know.
-Cheap Tactic 1: Pass the ball back to your defense, and then tell them to
pass to you, but before you do, run to the other teams goal. When your team
member passes to you, do an A + B standing special kick into the goal for
an almost certain score. Keep doing this until you run out of kicks, or keep
doing it for all that matter, although the most effective thing to do is to
constantly kick the ball out of bounds, thus not allowing the other team
a chance to score back.
-*Cheap Tactic 2: "Dribble the ball back to your end and face your own goal.
Get as close to you own goal as possible without putting the ball in, then
tap the pass button and its looks like you scored on your own team, but the
goal actually gets rewarded to you instead."
