Welcome to the Demo Guide for Bravely Default. This guide will cover the
entirety of the demo and detail how to maximize your carry overs and play
bonuses for the full game.
Agnès Oblige
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Agnès has brown eyes and long brunette hair down to her lower back, which she
keeps in place with a black hairband. In her default outfit she wears a
knee-length white dress with dark sleeves and black fur trimming at the hem and
black embroidery at the bust. She also wears a black bolero, a black cinch belt,
black knee-high boots with pom-poms and elbow-length black gloves. Agnès's
appearance changes according to which gear she is currently equipping in the
game.
Agnès is very intent on her role as the vestal and is not keen on letting
other people accompanying on her quest believing that she by herself can bring
light to the crystals without others' help and doesn't want to burden other
people with her problems.
Tiz Arrior
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Tiz has unruly brown hair and brown eyes. Tiz's appearance changes according
to which gear he is currently equipping. His default look is a white collared
shirt with crests on the shoulders, brown leather gloves, a belt with potions
and satchels attached to it, tight-fitting brown trousers and knee-high leather
boots.
Tiz has a strong sense of duty to Agnès, wanting to protect her, a shadow of
the cataclysm which took his brother whom he couldn't save from falling into the
chasm. He has had trouble sleeping at nights ever since his younger brother died
during the destruction of Norende. Tiz's strongest desire is to repair Norende
and restore a sense of normality in his life after having lost his home and
family to the catastrophe. Tiz is an honest 'bumpkin' as described by Ringabel
and Edea. Through his adventure he and Agnès become close and rely upon each
other.
Edea Lee
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Edea has a strong sense of justice as she was raised in a strong household
under her father, Braev Lee, who is the head of the ruling council of Eternia
and the lead advocate of the anti-crystal movement. Edea was brought up under
Braev, but due to his commitments to the council she spent more time with the
swordmaster who was put in charge of her training who taught her respect and the
way of honor when dealing with ones foes and allies alike. Edea soon comes to
realize that the Eternian forces are not all they seem to be after she was
placed in the Sky Knights division, where she witnessed first hand the
atrocities carried out by its members and seeks to see the truth with her own
eyes.
This leads her to condemn all those who go against these principles as being
purely evil and is frustrated when the targets of her ire disregard her views
as being naive and that of a child who does not know what she is talking about,
mostly from former comrades within the Eternian forces. Because of her change
in views she is constantly learning of how narrow minded the views of the
Eternian forces are but still judges people on basic "black and white" views
herself.
Ringabel
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Ringabel is an amnesiac Casanova, seducing women with his adolescent charm
with only a strange journal that tells the future as a clue to who he was before
he lost his memory. He only knows that he is searching for "an angel," who he
assumes he is to fall in love with hence his flirtations with all women that he
comes across. Ringabel soon comes to that rash conclusion that this angel is
Edea after seeing her in action.

I'm thinking of sending some energy brew to the people of Norende Village.
But I'm missing one of the ingredients, beast liver. If you come across
any, can you pass them on to me? I only need five.

You can get beast livers by defeating panthers and white caits! You should
come across plenty of them just roaming the desert.

Preparation
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
This demo leaves you a bit short-handed at the start. You're level 1 and need
to adjust your Jobs, Abilities, and Equipment before you head out. Set up a
Knight, Valkyrie, Black Mage, and White Mage for a traditional party (or
whatever you want) then equip them all properly. Be sure to pick up a spell or
two from the Spell Shop before leaving, these are more important than your
equipment early on. Fire, Blizzard, and Cure are useful for getting started
since you can exploit weaknesses and heal. When you are ready, head out into the
world.
Brave & Default
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
A new take on classic combat. Default to store up power, then Brave to
unleash it on your foes! By declining to act during a turn, you can store up BP
which allow you to carry over that action into a later turn. Default also
lessens damage taken that turn! Use the turns you've banked or take future turns
in advance to perform multiple actions in a single turn. Use it when the time is
right to drop the hammer on tough foes!
Brave Points (BP)
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Taking an advance on future turns will drive your BP negative. You'll recover
one per turn, but can't act until you reach zero. It's a high-risk, high-
reward proposition. Use it wisely!
Hunting the Beasts
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Stay close to Ancheim and just run around in circles, you can change the
encounter rate if you need to. Battle Panthers and White Caits, exploiting their
weakness and Braving through to defeat them. You can always return to the Inn to
rest up if you need to, but try to collect all 5 [BEAST LIVERS] before returning
to town. Turn in this quest to unlock the next one then speak with the man near
the Equipment Shop.

\/ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Lately a strange illness has been going around the Norende Village area.
You could almost call it a curse. I'm crafting some accessories that raise
resistance to magic, but I need seven more demon tails to finish them off.
/\
< > Information
\/ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
As you might guess, demon tails can be culled from demonic creatures. The
fastest way to obtain them around here would be to track down the imps that
roam the desert at night.
Fighting at Night
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Imps are a little more dangerous than the beasts you've been fighting during
the day. Try to get to level 3 and job level 2, purchasing more spells as you
need. If you have a Valkyrie, use a Brave then two Crescent Moon attacks to
quickly break down the trios of Imps that you'll encounter. Once you've collect
[7 DEMON TAILS] take them back to the man for a nice reward. Now head to the
right side of town to start the next quest.

An intruder has been spotted in the cave to the west, which we've been
using as a storehouse. I left it in the hands of some other whipper-
snappers, but they've made a shambles of it. Can you go and drive out the
intruder?
/\
< > Information
\/ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The intruder is fond of using Charm to take control of its foes. Watch out
for this! If one of your allies is charmed, give them a whack to knock some
sense back into them!
The First Dungeon
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Purchase some upgrades, rest at the Inn, then head out to the cave west of
town. The map doesn't reveal itself, you must contend with the fog of war as
you navigate. Start by following the path down then left at a split. If you
talked to a villager in Ancheim she mentions a hidden area -- this is it. Keep
walking left through the darkness, then up and left again. Inspect this area
to obtain a [WIND CHARM]. Continue back to the right, avoiding the sandblast
that will blind the party. Open the [CHEST] on the other side for a [PHOENIX
DOWN] then continue south.
On the way down is a small alove with a [CHEST] that contains a [STAR PENDANT]
so pick it up. At the southern split turn left and avoid all the sand, turning
north to a [CHEST] with a [WHITE CAPE] inside. Go south from here to another
[CHEST], this one has a [LONG SWORD] and is likely an upgrade for someone.
Re-equip your team, someone should be wearing the Wind Charm you picked up
earlier to avoid some Wind-damage in the ensuing battle.

Melusine uses two main attacks that can affect your party. First, there is
Charm which the quest mentions. This ability has a chance to turn your own
teammates against themselves. Taking physical damage or curing the status
effect will bring that player back under your control. Second is Aeroga, a
Wind-based magic spell that will deal upwards of 300 damage if you aren't
defending or negating the damage in some way. There are multiple ways to
counter this; cast Shell, equip the Wind Charm you picked up, or Default
to defend and mitigate. It's easy to know when Aeroga is coming because
Melusine will Default the turn prior, it's best to Default on your next
turn so you can stock a Brave Point and not got obliterated. Oddly enough,
Melusine is weak against Wind so if you picked up Aero you'll be in good
shape for some easy damage. Otherwise, stick to your best attacks like a
Valkyrie's Jump or Knight's Two-hand specialty.

You heard of monster fiber before? It resists both heat and cold, so they
use it all the time when building houses. We want to send some to Norende,
but we need to gather just a bit more. Can you collect ten pieces for us?
/\
< > Information
\/ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The forest to the northeast is the perfect place to find monster fiber! The
plant-like creatures there are bound to be a good source. They're
vulnerable to fire, too!
Obtaining Villagers
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
After completing the previous quest it is now possible to obtain a bunch of
Villagers for Norende. To do this, first return to Ancheim and save your game.
Now, head up the steps past the Armory until you find a man that talks about
the benefits of the restoration project. He has a friend go to Norende, thus
increasing your Villager total by 1. Confirm that the Villager has arrived then
return to the Adventurer where you can save. Choose Save from the first menu
but from the second choose "To Title" to return to the main menu. Reload your
game and you'll notice that you still have that extra Villager, but if you talk
to the man again another Villager will appear. Repeat this sequence to obtain as
many Villagers as you want and quickly rebuild Norende. Remember that you can
only carry over 20 Villagers to the full game.
Grinding Secret
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
By now you've likely maxed out a Valkyrie and/or Black Mage. This is good news
since you can use these Job classes to easily grind. Purchase Thundara and
upgrade your weapons, setting up a Black Mage with as much Magic Attack as
possible and loading a Valkyrie with the Two-Handed Support Ability and Crescent
Moon. Head to the south end of the map past the building and onto the beach
where you'll encounter a group of six Chompers. These will always spawn in this
area so it's convenient. Chompers often run away and can be a little tough to
defeat at first, but the rewards are astronomical -- it's possible to obtain
600pg, 360 EXP, and 120 JP from a single encounter! Chompers are weak versus
Lightning to Thundara is great, but having a Valkyrie Brave then use Crescent
Moon twice can also wipe out the party just as easily.
Collecting Monster Fibers
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Head to the northeast area where the forest is located. From the entrance go
right to a [CHEST] with a [HI-POTION] then go up the middle path. Before you
reach the Adventurer look right to another [CHEST], this one has a [PEACE RING].
Return to the bottom row, moving right and up the far side. Do your best to
avoid the poison, it sticks and will quickly sap your life away. Follow the path
around and ignore the chest across the poison as you reach a [CHEST] with an
[ETHER]. Continue along the trail to find a [REBUFF LOCKET] in the last [CHEST].
Once you've collected all the items focus on defeating the enemies and grabbing
the [MONSTER FIBER] you need.
