So I recently found out about the Old Computer Challenge,
where the chellenge is to use a computer with a maximum of one CPU/core
and a maximum of 512MB RAM. Me being me, I opted to use my old
Power Mac G5 with a single 1.8GHz PowerPC CPU and the previously
mentioned maximum of 512MB of RAM. The OS on that thing is a bit odd,
since the architecture is now very obsolete. So what I found was a somewhat
shady port of Lubuntu 16.04 LTS that had been patched by someone in 2020
to give it security updates among other things. This proved to besurprisingly
usable as a daily driver! If you forget about fancy web things
such as Youtube and other newfangled crap.
This challenge concept is nothing new to me, since I have done this myself
several times before. but it seemed like a fun thing, so I hopped on the train!
