LIVE BAIT vs. ARTIFICIAL

I saw this on field and stream magazine and was wondering how
you all felt about the topic:
There are many different kinds of bait/lures out there, spinner
baits, chatter baits, plastics, jigs, live bait, etc. In my
opinion, live bait is the best. I'm not sure what you guys think
but that's what i think. I feel that live bait is more natural
than anything. The fish are used to it, they know what it is,
and they don't have to be starving or super aggressive to bite
on it. So, next time your out for bass, crappie, or bluegill,
take along a pack of night crawlers. After all, it could become
your new favorite bait.
My question to all our members and guest is what do you feel
about live bait versus artificial for saltwater game ie: trout
or redfish?
I prefer live bait when available. I feel the strike is more
aggressive and more likely to land you a nice fish. I also feel
that artificial is good in a sense that you don't hook as many
trash fish: ie hard heads, ladyfish ect.

Well I also prefer live bait. I do more saltwater fishing then
anything and just love catching a limit of reds and specs. The
method I use for reds is fishing the bottom with fresh bait
shrimp. I will use a rattle trap, spoon, or a jig head with a
cocahoe minnow. If the action is fast it won't matter what you
throw at them. Specs are fished with shrimp and a popping cork
or some type of artificial bait like a cocahoe minnow in the
color of electric chicken or lsu color. Follow the birds for the
specs and you will be successful. My preference will always be
live bait over artificial but the good anglers will adapt to the
fishing situation and be prepared for anything to make the
fishing trip a success.

Spec fishing you cant beat live bait. My favorite artificial
baits are Gulp alive swimming mullet or shrimp on a 3/8 OZ Jig
head.

For me, live vs. artificial bait just depends on the species I
am after:
Bass - Artificial
Bream - Live w/ artificial attractant (Worms or Crickets with
Powerbait nibblets)
Sac-a-Lait (Crappie) - Live (Shinners on a blade and single
hook)
Catfish - Live (Shrimp or Worms)
I don't saltwater fish very much so I really can't say which I
prefer, but I have caught on both.

We love the diversity. We don't
descriminate. Most of use flatbottom alluminum boats with 50 hp
motors and such. I will go usually go and fish what is biting at
the time. The pictures of the catfish I posted on one of the
post were caught on a trot-line with poppa-o. It's all about
pure country folk in here. Say the the realtree energy slogan,
It's not for city folk. Keep the post and pics coming. I want to
see some pictures of someone smoking some bass. Its been a
little bit since I did some bass fishing and need to go so I can
knock off some of that rust. LOL.
