them?

What is in your tackle box? What is your favorite bait to use?
When do you use it?

I'm a worm/jig man for the most part I love the fineness baits
but during the spawn I love to throw a frog or brushhog in the
grass beds. Also during the summers when its hot out I like to
throw a POP-R or other fast working topwater bait.

I always use a motor oil colored curly tail worm during the day
and buzzbaits at night. I've caught a lot on other stuff but
those never let me down.

Watermelon lizards along the bottom in shallow water, or
chartruse and red jig up against cover.

One of the best baits I ever used and absolutely slaughtered
bass with it was renegades craw worm in June bug color and it
was impregnated in salt. They discontinued making this bait. If
I would have known, I would have bought a case. I mostly use
culprit worms now in the color of red shad or June bug. These
have been my go to worms when fishing bass. It has worked for me
time and time again and like the say, if it ain't broke then
don't fix it. Everybody has a set of baits that they are
confident in that consistently puts fish in the boat for them. I
say if you found that recipe, then stick with it.

The easier question to answer is "What type of bass baits DON'T
you use?" for me. I use to be in a rut not so long ago where I
always used the same three baits: Chartreuse/White 1/4oz.
Spinnerbaits, Watermelon Red or Junebug crawfish, or a common
colored 100 series Bandit crankbait. As I got older, I really
started venturing out and researching feeding patterns, reaction
patterns, spawning patterns, etc... Now what I throw all
depends on where I am going, what time of year I am fishing, and
the time of day, just to name a few of the variables. Here's
some of my simple go to lures for the most part:
Ribbit/Buzzbait - In the mornings when it's a little warmer and
the fish don't mind chasing a bait.
Chugbug/Rouge/Spro frog - In the mornings when it's a little
cooler and fish aren't chasing those faster moving baits.
1/4oz. Spinnerbaits - Fishing bank cover like fallen trees or
stumps that are close together
3/8oz Spinnerbaits - *My Favorite* Fishing spread out bank
cover, drop-offs, grass, bushes, isolated structure, points, you
name it! This is the all around go to for me!
Fluke - Warm/Hot days, especially fishing grass beds or
drop-offs. This bait is a must in the summertime!
Diving Crankbaits - My fishing partner is the crankbait master,
I don't fish them unless they don't want my spinnerbaits, but
they usually do well in the same places a spinnerbait does,
sometimes it just may be too shallow or too cluttered for a
crankbait, but when they want it, there is nothing like the bite
you get on a crankbait.
Lipless Crankbaits - I use these in deeper water or when it gets
so hot that the Bass migrate off the points and banks.
Finesse Worm/Soft Plastics - I hated this kind of fishing, I
always use to save it as my last ditch effort to bring in fish,
until I learned how to properly fish it and let me tell you,
sometimes, this is all I fish on a day's trip. A lot of people
don't pitch their bait to every single piece of structure, they
just throw here and there, trying to cover a bank fast and move
on. I take my time! I throw multiple times to every piece of
structure I can find and sometimes, I even circle back and start
from the beginning again. In the last month alone, I have
literally lost count of the bass I've landed finesse fishing.
The key....TAKE YOUR TIME & RELAX!
Jigs - I am still learning this type of fishing, whether I am
pitching one or trying to swim one. I mostly go to these on
those cold winter months when the fish are hunkered down and the
bite is slow, slow, slow.
These are the only lures I fish, and this isn't the only way to
fish them. These are just my common ways I use them. I am by
no means an expert, I don't even fish tournaments, I just love
Bass fishing and always count the days to my next trip!
