October 11-14 Hunt
By: bigjromero Date: October 18, 2012, 3:51 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
So, this past weekend I went bow hunting in St.
Francisville. The first day of the hunt my dad killed a 8 pt. I
was happy for him as this was his first hunt after quadruple
bypass back in April. Then the next morning as daylight is upon
me I get a text " I got a pig" so Im sitting here thinking I
have been Bow hunting for a few years now with no luck and here
he comes been in the stand for a total of about 45 minutes and
has two animals on the ground. He must have a horse shoe up his
butt.
So that afternoon I decide to hunt in the back of a food
plot on the ground in a pop up blind that my padnuh had over
there. ITS HOTT. and every piece of camo I own is long sleeve.
so Im sweating like there is no tomorrow. I drag that popup
blind about 400 yds into the woods and set it up and get in it.
By this time Im soaking wet with sweat. So I reach in my bag
and grab 3 things 1. my Thermacell 2. My essence of fall cover
scent. and 3 my Rac-em-Bac Persimmon preloaded scent arrowheads.
I tried to shoot out the arrowhead out of the pop up blind and
realized that even kneeling down Im too tall to make a shot, So
i moved everything outside of the popup stood up shot my
RacEmBac arrowhead into the ground about 40 yards away, left the
door open and looked through the blind.
After about an hour I started to dry off and to my surprise
i saw a doe out in the middle of the food plot. The RacEmBac
def. did the trick she didnt smell me at all. She stayed about
60 yards away. Then 2 young 8 pts came out too far to shoot. I'm
loving all the action going on!!!! even though i hadnt though
about how i was gonna creep around the popup blind to get a shot
off. Then I had to think fast because I see the deer run off and
about an 80lb sow come running out of the woods right to the
scented arrow. She was rooting up the food plot. I very quietly
grabbed my grimreaper whitetail special and bow, creeped around
the popup very quietly, glassed the porker at 36 yards quartered
away, drew back and let her have it. She ran off and it looked
like she was carrying a paint brush of blood through the woods.
She ran about a total of 45 yards right into the woods and fell
down a little bottom. I have attached a few pictures for your
viewing pleasure.
