| Hog bonanza!! | |
| By: TexanTiger Date: September 21, 2012, 11:28 pm | |
| --------------------------------------------------------- | |
| Last season was the first year that we have seen a huntable | |
| population of wild hogs in our neck of the woods in years. Dad | |
| and I both saw several, and I bounced a 125 grain soft point 357 | |
| magnum round off of the skull of one the size of a VW bus. | |
| Anyway, I bought a box of Winchester RXT Razorback rounds in | |
| .223 the other day. It's a 64 grain protected hollow point with | |
| some strange looking bevels on it. I was wondering what you | |
| fellas thought about using a .223 for boar. I've always been | |
| told that in the ear is the place to put a round, and I know | |
| that my great grandfather (as well as many others) has killed | |
| them with a .22 long rifle, but what do you consider to be the | |
| best hog hunting round? Also, what do you think about shot | |
| placement? In the ear? The base of the neck? Behind the | |
| shoulder? Everywhere I go I see different opinions, just | |
| wondering what has worked for folks around here. | |

| I've shot hogs with 22 mags, 7 mag and my shotgun. They all got | |
| the job done. Head shots to me are the best but behind the front | |
| shoulder works find for long range big rifles. My old hunting | |
| partner gave a m1 30 carbine this summer can't to try it out. | |

| Sounds like it's all good stuff. A good friend of mine just got | |
| an M1 Carbine from his grandfather, been itching to go shoot it. | |

| You need to watch that guy Jagerpro on YouTube. This cat | |
| erraticates the crap out hogs. Don't know what rifle he is using | |
| but it's no joke. | |
| All the guys I see hunting hogs, use 22 mags most of the time. | |
| They take head shots around the ear region and I even seen I guy | |
| splitting them between the eyes. | |

| Looks like a .308 in this video. That Remington 25 is a sweet | |
| gun. | |

| And of course, this is one of my personal favorite videos. If | |
| any of you has a helicopter laying around, I'll bring the guns | |
| and ammo! | |

| Man, I'm gonna have to start reloading. Those TSX bullets are | |
| $30 bucks a box, but for 30 bucks I can buy 50 projectiles, and | |
| I have a closet full of brass. | |
