Saltwater / Freshwater Rods

What type of rod would be good for Reds and Specs and still be
suitable for the occasional freshwater trip? I am looking for
something to put a low-profile baitcaster
on...Brand/Model/Length/Action/etc.

You may have to look at getting 2 setups for this. I always use
Abu Garcia reels. For reds it's always a heavy action rod like
ugly stick that is 6.5 ft and the reel has to be a 5000 series
or higher. The rod and reel that you use for specks would be a
good all around rig. I like a soft action rod so you don't tear
there mouth as easy. I would use a ugly stick rod for that also
with Abu Garcia bait cast reel like the revo. I don't use the
expensive equipment cause I feel you can get the job done with
wal-mart products that won't break your wallet. If you want to
get into the expensive stuff, bigjromero could probably cover
you on this. He is supposed to be reviewing a new reel he bought
and will be trying out. I have used Abu Garcias for years and
will not vary off of that. The rod you use for reds can be used
for a pitching stick or plastic worm rig. Most fisherman usually
will have multiple set ups for different situations. As you can
see I am not big on specifications about rod and reels. Rod and
reels are like guns and bows, everyone has there favorites.

I agree with the above post. You need at least 2 setups. Specs I
would suggest a 7' to 7'-6" Medium action rod and reds a 6'6" MH
action rod. I use my 6'-6" MH for Spinner bait fishing for Bass
also. Im not a big bass fisherman so I usually just use my ultra
light when im in freshwater.

I was fishing specs one time with my redfish setup and loosing
over half my fish cause how stiff the rod was. I switched to a
more limber rod and was boating almost every fish I hooked.
That's how big of a difference it can make. You can use both
those set ups for bass fishing or cat fishing. You didn't
specify what you wanted to chase after in freshwater, so I will
assume its bass. Bigj will be doing a review on that Komodo
dragon reel. It should be interesting since I never heard of
that name brand reel before. Guess I better start going look at
fishing tackle at some place other than Walmart. Lol.

definitely the lighter rod will make all the difference in the
world. Xclusive1 Walmart has alot of good stuff. just you have
to buy it on walmart online. not the new iberia store.
