My love and respect for Duke Energy

Ok slapnuts....story time...
Approx 11:00am this morning get a call from my wife:
Wife - "Honey the power is off"
Me - "OK, have you checked the breaker box?"
She's a country girl, grew up on a farm and knows electricity is
not your friend, being that the farm was very self sufficient
and having to fix a lot on their own. She made sure there is no
black soot or funny electrical smell before opening the breaker
panel (Here in Florida, most panels on the older homes are
outside).
Wife - "Yup, all is good"
Me - "Power off on any of the surrounding homes?"
Wife - "Nope...weird...."
Me - "Yeah that is weird, let me call Duke"
Call Duke
Duke rep - "Hello....blah...blah.."
Me - "Hello...blah...blah...I would like to report a power
outage, but first have you turned off my power by mistake?"
Duke rep - "No we have not, you are rated as an A+ customer and
your bill is up to date, I will put in a ticket"
Me - "Thanks...blah...blah...blah..."
4 hours go by.....
Wife - "Hey honey, the Duke guy just showed up and another
technician came out earlier and shut our power off for no
payment, he showed me the red tag, sorry I did not notice that
earlier. The earlier tech made a mistake and should have shut
off the neighbors (Rental property and the tenants just moved
out)
Me - "Your shitting me...."
Wife - "I shit you not...."(I love that about her) By this time
her and little Pete have been without power for close to 5 1/2
hours.
Me - "Son of a bitch, let me call Duke Energy back"
Duke rep - "Hello....blah...blah.."
Me - "Hello...blah...blah...I would like to report that you
turned off my power by mistake"
Duke rep - "I see that, the tech just filed a report, we are
really sorry about that and we value as a
customer....blah....blah......"
Me - "Yeah stuff happens, but my wife and child were out of
power for five hours due to no fault of our own, what say you
credit me $50.00 on my next bill and we call it a day?"
Duke rep - "Sorry Duke has no policy for reimbursing customers
for such an event, but we are truly....
Me - "What do you mean no policy, you just made a mistake and my
family paid the price....that's ridiculous.....most companies in
this day and age have some sort or recompense for mistakes they
make....oh wait your a monopoly and do not have to....who's your
boss?"
Well needless to say that I am awaiting a phone call back
from the last rep's boss's boss's boss - probably get nothing
other than a heartless felt apology - but if I can waste some
big wigs time then perhaps that is a small measure of
satisfaction for me. Who knows, perhaps I will write an old
fashioned letter and send it to a few of the Duke Energy
jackwagons and be done with it.....fuckin' monopolies suck....

citizens help column, or some such public forum, and let'em have
