Fateful Night
By: Unknown Date: May 31, 2016, 10:04 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
There was a crowd of ponies despite the light drizzle on the
night with a full moon that was masked by the clouds. A stallion
was speaking at a podium. His voice echoed through the courtyard
area where the stage was set up. Equestrians all had umbrellas
out to keep themselves dry as they listened to one of the many
politicians that have been speaking out about the riots and
terrorist attacks in Equestria recently.
Meanwhile moving through the crowd was a group of sanitation
workers that were bundled up in dark blue rain jackets. They all
had official identification clipped on the outside of their
jackets as they moved towards a building that was not currently
open to the public. They were able to get past the politician's
personal secret service who inspected their ID's and allowed
them to enter.

Current Time
Although the public didn't know, Equinox was with them. They
were everywhere. On the podium, in the crowd, and in the
surrounding buildings. On the podium stand four ponies.
Equinox's commander, Broadshield on the right of the politician.
On the left of the politician stands Bishop, a heavily set
soldier of Equinox, and one of the founding members. On the left
stairs stands Rogue, a smaller mare, known for her perception
and scouting ability, who made the trip from Fillydelphia to
Canterlot for the event. Lastly on the right stairs stands
Agilene, one of the newer soldiers of Equinox, on her first
mission. Throughout the crowd, hidden, are dozens of Equinox
soldiers, watching as the politician gives his speech, looking
out for anyone making any attempts on the politician's life. In
the surrounding buildings, sniper/spotter teams were laced
throughout the buildings, snipers at the ready in case of an
attack. To a military strategist, it was a pretty solid defense,
and it would be, considering the safety of the politician.
Broadshield and the other three Equinox soldiers on the stage
all stand facing the crowd, all wearing uniform identical to the
politician's secret service, with kevlar vests underneath. As
Broadshield looks over the crowd standing guard, he thinks back
to before, right before the politician gave his speech, with
Equinox planning for the event.
[hr]
Roughly 30 minutes earlier...
Roughly 30 or so Equinox soldiers, including Broadshield,
Agilene, Bishop and Rogue all gather in a room in a nearby
building to the courtyard, all surrounding a decently large
table, filled with maps and papers. The biggest map on the table
is that of the courtyard and surrounding buildings, with various
points circled and dotted down. "Alright listen up." Broadshield
says to the platoon of soldiers, all falling silent. "We don't
have much time so I'll get right to it. We are all here today to
help defend a certain V.I.P who will be making a public address
about recent terror attacks on Equestria. One such attack
occurred in Canterlot not too long ago." he says, a look of
solemn showing on the soldiers faces. "Many ponies were injured,
some lost their lives. But tonight, we will stand together, with
the Equestrian government, to show that we will not stand for
this. We show the public, that Equinox will not bow down to the
likes of those who wish to do Equestria harm!" Broadshield says,
a unified "Ooh rah!" from the soldiers present following shortly
after.
"Alright. Me, Bishop, Rogue and Agilene will be on the stage,
guarding our V.I.P. in case somepony is stupid enough to charge
up to our V.I.P.." he says, pointing to a spot on the map
indicating a podium. "Me and Bishop will take point next to the
politician, while Agilene and Bishop, you two take up the rear,
and guard the stairs." he says, looking to them both before
continuing. "I'll have eight sniper-spotter teams on the roofs
and inside the buildings surrounding the area, and keep
over-watch on the courtyard." Broadshield continues, taking a
pause to circle out various buildings for sniper positions. "The
rest of you, I want half of you within the crowd, making sure
there isn't any suspicious activity going on in there, and I
want the other half to be guarding entrance points, and make
sure no one is going in or out of the area." Broadshield says,
circling the courtyard, along with various entry points. "Our
V.I.P. will be accompanied by their own guard. They will be
guarding the area around the podium, along with this building
here..." he pauses, circling another building roughly adjacent
to the podium "... and the 'chariot' in the event that there is
an attack. The four of us along with the secret service will
escort our V.I.P. to the 'chariot' while the rest of you secure
the area." he says. "This is a very complex mission, we have no
room for error. Ponies lives are on the line here. Lets go out
there, and show them what Equinox can do! Ooh Rah!"
"Ooh Rah!" all the soldiers cry out before going off to get
ready. After a good majority of the ponies present leave, the
only few left are those packing up the area, Broadshield makes
his way over to Agilene. "Ready for your first mission
private?"he asks her.
[hr]
Current Time
Broadshield is pulled out of his thoughts with the sound of his
earpiece going off. "All's clear from the buildings sir. Nothing
to report." a voice can be heard on the public channel.
"Good, keep me posted if you see anything. How's the crowd
doing?" he says quietly into his earpiece, waiting for a
response.
"Other than being cold, wet and miserable, nothing to report."
another voice is heard on the public channel.
"Alright, keep a look out and keep me posted." he says, going
back to looking over the crowd for any abnormalities.

Standing still on the stairs of a courtyard behind a podium,
Agilene gazes out at the vast crowd gathered in front. Through
her shivering, she listens to the V.I.P's words. While the cold
caused her teeth to clatter slightly, and her legs to vibrate,
she maintains all her focus on the task at hand. As part of her
first mission, she made it a goal to not miss a single detail.
Agilene keeps her eyes peeled for ponies in the crowd who rub
her the wrong way, looks out for possible hiding spots, and much
more. So far, despite the dark night, accompanied by a few
spotlights shining on the podium, Agilene manages to catch a few
oddities: unlit areas of the courtyard where anypony could stay
out of sight around the far end, and a few ponies walking out of
the crowd. She doesn't expect too much from her findings, but
still keeps note of them.
During her lookout, voices of the other troops start speaking
through her earpiece. Each one confirming their condition.
"Nothing at the moment," she responds. "Just pay attention to
the darker areas of the courtyard."

The sanitation workers groaned as they managed to slip past most
of the security. Working in this kind of weather was nasty and
they had to clean this entire building for the small party that
was hosted here afterwards. It was abandoned for the most part
for now however as the workers and managers were outside
listening to the stallion on stage.
The workers took an elevator to the top floor and made their way
to the closet where they unpacked vacuum cleaners, mops, and
janitor carts. They slipped off their jackets except one. The
rest looked at the one that was standing still.
"Hey Street cleaner! You gonna take that nasty jacket off and
help us or not?" One barked.
After a few seconds, the cameras shut off and the lights dimmed
for a minute and a hoof reached out from under the coat and
pulled the face right off and let it slap onto the floor. The
janitors at first were confused before realizing it was bloody
and was their co-worker's face. However it was too late as the
rest of the jacket came off revealing a blue pony who jumped
towards the other workers and began to fight them with it's
hooves. Despite their poor efforts at fighting back, the pony
quickly finished them off and shoved them into the janitor
closet locking it. The last thing they would see is a bloodied
face. After checking it's Kevlar vest and fishing through the
janitorial cart for her rifle, She wiped all the blood off her
face from the stallions face she just wore and pulled her mask
up.
After taking a deep breath, she began to push the janitor cart
towards the elevator.

Current Time
Broadshield continues to scan over the crowd, listening to radio
checks done by the soldiers in the platoon. Listening to Agilene
over the radio, he looks over to the mentioned areas. Sure
enough, there are a few areas which aren't illuminated,
providing possible hiding or sniper positions. "Its a bit
unconventional for an assassin to be in the shadows like there,
they would be too exposed. But still, I'll have sniper teams
Alpha 1 and Bravo 4 focus on the darker areas, the rest of you,
keep on your positions. Good catch Agilene." he says. Not paying
much attention to the politician's speech, his mind goes back to
earlier.
[hr]
10 minutes earlier
The Equinox platoon that was present was already making their
way to their designated position. Snipers were hidden in the
buildings with their rifles, scanning the courtyard and other
buildings. Equinox soldiers at the entrances were dressed in
Royal and Lunar Guard armour, making sure no one got in or out
at this time. Soldiers in the crowd wore either heavy clothing
or nothing at all to blend in, some soldiers wielding pistols.
For Broadshield, Bishop, Rogue, and Agilene, all four wore suits
identical to those of the politician's secret service, with
kevlar armour underneath. While everyone took their positions,
Broadshield made his way over to Agilene, wherever she was. "You
nervous?" he asks her.

As Agilene keeps her eyes locked on the crowd after arriving at
her position, she feels the presence of Commander Broadshield
approaching. After asking her of her condition, she responds
with a light sigh with a hint of trembling. "I can't tell if
it's the cold making me shake, or my feelings towards this
mission," she replies, her head looking straight at the crowd,
not bothering to give a glance at the commander. Agilene then
recalls the meeting she and the others troops had not too long
ago. "About what you said earlier about 'terror attacks.' Do you
have any idea who's responsible? What is their reason for
risking the lives of many? Surely they must have some logic to
their intentions."

The elevator dings as it reaches the very very top floor. Two
agents were sitting in folding chairs (not Equinox). This was
good especially since she specifically chose a building that was
guarded by the less talented secret service.
"Excuse me ma'am no cleaning." One got up and held his hoof up.
Unknown nodded and shoved the cart forward hitting the agent
knocking him against the wall knocking him out before taking a
pistol and pumping two rounds into the second agent. She looked
into the cart and pulled a rifle out and used their key card to
open the door to roof access where she hid in the shadows
waiting for the patrolling guards to pass by.

"Its natural to feel nervous on your first mission. Trying to do
well, complete the mission and get it done, live to tell the
tale. I always hear of new recruits facing nervousness on their
first mission. I tell them all the same thing, and you are no
exception. 'Being nervous isn't a bad thing, it just means
you're ready to do something important.' That's what you're
doing now. You're standing here, defending an innocent man from
harm, and that's pretty important in my book." he says, looking
over the slowly forming crowd. "As for who's responsible, no one
knows as of yet. Whoever it is is highly trained and has the
gear needed to do it. They leave no trace or trails, not even as
much as a breadcrumb or clue as to who it is. My guess for their
intention is simple. To spread fear and doubt, divide Equestria,
have us at odds against each other, then strike us while we're
down at all directions. But as long as Equinox stands, as long
as I breathe, I will not let that happen." he says,
determination in his eyes. "You best get ready. We're going to
be starting any minute now. Good luck" he says, walking off to
his position.
[hr]
Current Time
The soldiers and agents continue to stand guard all over the
courtyard, keeping their eyes open for anything suspicious.
"Still nothing. Its all peaceful and quiet. A bit too much." he
says, slowly growing more suspicious at the lack of anything
happening, keeping his eyes open for anything. "Everyone keep
your eyes open. Something doesn't feel right." he says into his
earpiece.

Broadshield's warning on her earpiece brings Agilene to dart her
eyes from left to right, scanning the courtyard to confirm his
suspicions. The event felt calm for too long, and it's about
time something new to keep an eye out for came up. However, the
audience remained at its usual, peaceful mood. While she felt
underwhelmed, a question dawned on her: If there was one place
that hasn't been checked, which would it be? That question was
soon answered as Agilene gazed up at the lit up windows of the
surrounding buildings. "Has anyone checked the windows of the
buildings yet?" she asks everyone through her communicator.

The rain on the roof was helping her hide as she saw a guard
begin to walk by. She used her rifle and shot the guard twice
and dragged him into the shadows and threw her assault rifle on
her back before picking up his high powered sniper rifle. This
politician's secret service was well armed. She aimed around and
found the rest of the patrolling guards on the roof. Thunder
roared across the sky as both fell over without alerting anypony
else.
The deadly mare chose her particular building wisely. It was
behind another structure but there was a small opening right
through it where she could see the politician. Plus, this being
a restricted building, it was less likely to be searched...
until it was too late. The mare looked at the stallion speaking
and listened to him a bit. She had actually admired this
stallion as a foal. Unknown shook herself out of though and
placed the rifle on the ledge. Lightning streaked across the sky
as she began to focus her scope and take aim right at his head.
