The Ending of Solitude [continued]
By: Moonlight Mist Date: August 12, 2017, 12:52 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Moonlight turned her head towards Pinkie as she thought about
what she wanted. "Hmm..." She usually picked out something
chocolate related, there was no reason to steer away from her
favorites. "I often get the chocolate cupcakes or brownies...
or..." Moonlight looks around for a moment, her eyes land on a
pretty chocolate cake that looks like it has layers of chocolate
mousse and ganache. Yeah that's definitely something she'd
devour in a second, though given the whole 'on a date' thing
she'd probably have to space it out a bit.
Before she decided, Moonlight turns towards Schwam. "What will
you be getting?" She smiles as she guesses what kind of treats
and flavors he'd like, He seems like he likes Vanilla, maybe
even strawberry. Probably going to get a vanilla cupcake or
something simple like that.

"I, uh...I'm gonna need to think about that..." Schwam says,
stepping farther in towards the counter where everything is
listed. "It has been a while since I've been here." To be
honest, he just kind of needs to step away from Pinkie a bit. He
used to have a crush on her back before he moved to Canterlot,
and being around her while on a date is giving him some nerves.
Pinkie thwarts his plan by materializing behind the counter
again. "Yeah, it has been! And you used to show up all the time!
You need a refresher on what we have?" Without waiting for an
answer, she takes a deep breath before launching into a
rapid-fire list of baked goods and flavors.
"We've gooooot

she tosses example sweets onto a pile on the counter, and by the
time she's finished there's a precariously balanced reverse
pyramid on the counter, with the base being a single coconut
cream cupcake.
"But not the flavor of rainbows. That stuff does not belong on
sweets. My tum bunth jutht thenkeng abat et!" She finishes,
fanning her mouth.
Schwambart slowly takes a couple steps back to make room for the
barrage of sweets, honestly not even surprised at the balance.
"Uh...thanks, Pinkie, I think I got- wait, did you say
sriracha?"
"Yeah!" She pulls out a bag of pink frosting labeled "H&H
Sauce". "I brought it in for our Hearts and Hooves Day special!
A baker's dozen, so you could share the last one with your
sweetie! You're a teeeensy bit late for it, but if you want, I
could be convinced to bring it back for you two. It's exactly as
good as it sounds!" She grins encouragingly for them to take her
up on it.
"I, uh...no, but thanks, Pinkie. Thank you for the, uh...offer."
Sriracha sweets. Yes, he's sure that that's precisely as good as
it sounds. Eugh. "No, I'll take..." Should it be something for
them to share? Should they each get their own? Or should he get
something for each of them and something to share? Why didn't he
think this through beforehoof? Oh wait, he did, and it didn't
involve coming here at all. "...Three red velvet cupcakes with
vanilla frosting and sprinkles. And..." He considers a bit
longer, eyes on the pile of confections, and grins. He points to
the fulcrum, the coconut cream cupcake upon which the whole
thing rests. "...that cupcake."

Moonlight stands next to Schwam as Pinkie starts her colorful
spiel, her head tilts in semi confusion and amazement at her
speed. Though she could barely pick up a word from any of it,
Pinkie's enthusiasm was more than enough to keep her
entertained.
She's completely relieved when Schwam turns down Pinkie's
sriracha offer, it didn't even sound that good...and she hated
the stuff. There weren't many sweets that she didn't like
though, so she was kind of curious what Schwam would pick out
for them.
Once he makes his request, Moonlight manages to throw in a word.
"Oh! Uh, could we get that in a bag please?" She utters quietly
but sweetly. Moonlight had a plan for them after this, and
didn't want him to have a hard time balancing cupcakes the
entire way.

"Okie dokie lokie! One quarter dozen sprinkled RVs aaaaaaaaaand
one coconut cream!" Pinkie ducks behind the counter and pops
back up farther along it to where some pre-frosted cupcakes sit
and snags three out, tossing sprinkles onto them haphazardly.
From somewhere below the edge she produces a 4-cupcake holder
and plops the three in. Then she just kinda...pushes the sweet
pyramid aside, everything moving aside seamlessly and leaving
the coconut cream cupcake on its own, untarnished.
To be honest, that was why Schwam had asked for that cupcake,
just to see how she would do it. He knew she would find a way,
and he gives a mental applause and a physical shake of his head.
The coconut cupcake joins the other in the holder, and Pinkie
closes that and sweeps it into a bag. "Alright, what do I owe
you?" Schwam asks, grabbing his bits out of a pocket to hoof
them over.
"That will be x bits!"
"...x bits?"
"Yeah, x bits. x is a variable!"
"Uh...okay, here, have...x bits?" Schwam just puts all he'd
grabbed out on the counter for Pinkie.
She takes the bits and sweeps them behind the counter, then
grabs a similar but slightly smaller pile out and pushes them
back towards the stallion. "And your change, of x minus y bits,
where y is a different variable! You two have a good night, love
birds!"
"Uh...yeah, we sure will. Thanks, Pinkie!" Schwam re-pockets the
bits and takes the bag, still looking somewhat perplexed, and
walks back to Moonlight. "Shall we be going?"

Moonlight smiles and looks back at Schwam, "Alrighty, let's go
then." She looks back at Pinkie and gives her a slight wave,
"Thank you Pinkie, I'll see if I can start coming in with my
brother from now on." Once they start heading out the door she
notices a pair of blue jays fly in behind them. Wow, she wasn't
kidding was she?
"Okay!" Moonlight shimmies a bit and starts to walk them to
their next destination. "I have a liiiiiiiittle surprise
planned...well..." She pauses for a moment to think, it wasn't
anything big but the spot meant a lot to her and she was excited
to share it with him. "...It's....something. I'm sure you'll
enjoy it." Moonlight was basically leading them back to her
cottage, but with a little detour.
About ten minutes later the two were about to arrive, they had
to trot up a steep hill but it was well worth it. Moonlight
could see that they were about to reach the top, but stopped in
front of Schwam right when they were about to do so. "Wait!
Close your eyes! I gotta set something up!" Moonlight smiles,
and makes sure that his eyes were closed. "Okay, gimme a minute.
No peeking!"
She ran to the top of the hill, her usual 'special spot'. Not
sure how special it was considering she comes here practically
every night, but tonight was different. At the top was a very
large willow tree, Moonlight reached in her satchel and pulled
out a blanket, laying it across the grass below her. "Almost
done!" She yelled out so he wouldn't think she just ran off. On
one of the lower branches of the willow tree was a closed empty
mason jar. Moonlight used her moon powers to extract some
moonlight to place it into the jar, something she rarely did but
it provided such a romantic light.
"Ooooo....kay." Moonlight trotted back over to Schwam and guided
him towards the romantic spot. "You can open your eyes now." She
could barely contain her excitement, she's never shared this
spot with anypony before. Schwam would see the blanket
underneath the willow tree, the tree itself had the moonlit jar
hanging from it and some fireflies. The hill itself sat under
the large moon and overlooked some of Ponyville.
"Soooo...this is uh...where I go...alot..." Moonlight nervously
explains but follows it up with a giggle, "It's usually less
romantic but I made an exception."

"Ooh, a surprise? I love surprises," Schwambart half-lies. He
doesn't like bad surprises, and he doesn't like huuuuuuuuge
surprises that are super disruptive. But this is probably a good
surprise! Based on Moonlight's attitude and bringing it up, plus
the fact that it involves Moonlight. So in this context, does it
even count as half a lie.
Okay, steep hills are not the good surprise I was expecting.
He'd much rather fly up the hill than walk up it, except for the
fact that Moonlight was on the ground, which made it better than
the alternative. He just follows along with a dopey grin until
instructed to do otherwise. At her instruction, he closes his
eyes, and even takes off his glasses...which wouldn't actually
do much to hide it from him if he opened them, but y'know.
Appearances mean something.
He waits patiently with his eyes closed, trying to determine
just what she's doing by the sound she's making. But his ears
were never his strongest point, so he'll just have to be content
with waiting for her okay to see for himself. Perhaps patiently
is the wrong word. The waiting is making him more nervous. By
the time Moonlight comes back to lead him forward, he's
breathing a bit more quickly than he likes. He quiets it down
when he hears her coming back, to little avail.
His initial impression of the scene is probably hampered a bit
by his lack of glasses when he opens his eyes. The fireflies,
the blanket, and the jar of moonlight are a bit blurry to him,
the longer view more in focus. He fixes that by slipping his
glasses back on, his breath catching. "Oh my," he says quietly,
the dopey grin returning. "This is gorgeous."
Now follow it up by saying "Almost as gorgeous as you." What?
No! Do I have any idea how cheesy that sounds!? He keeps his
mouth shut.

"Isn't it?" Moonlight smiled at the lovely sight herself, it was
actually more impressive than she initially thought. Granted, it
was a little more spruced up than usual but there was this giddy
feeling she had now that she was here with Schwambart.
"Right...so..." She trots over to the blanket that was towards
the edge of the hill and sits. From here they could see some of
Ponyville, Moonlight pats the spot next to her, waiting for
Schwam to do the same.
She turns to him, her cheeks turn red at the sheer romanticism
of it all. "I've never brought anypony up here
before...this...this place is special to me, I'm not really sure
why. But after all you've done for me and..." She pauses, even
though she's trying to stay calm anxiety still fills her.
"...how we...might feel for each other, I thought it'd be even
more special with you here..." Oh my gosh...that was lame! What
if he takes off? Or even worse... what if he laughs?!
Moonlight tries to avoid eye contact for a little bit to
recuperate herself, while her eyes wander she spots the cupcakes
and gently takes them. "...I uh...I'm sorry if that was too
bold." She opens the cupcakes while trying to hide her flushed
face, they looked amazing. Though she manages to look at him
once more, giving him a small smile.

Schwambart follows Moonlight onto the blanket and sits down next
to her when signaled to. His face burns at the closeness, the
proximity, and the intimacy. Sure, they were close in the movie
theater. But they also weren't the only ones in there. Here,
it's just the two of them, side by side, under the moon and a
jar of moon. A lightning bug lands on his nose, and he shakes it
off. Don't spoil the moment, silly glowing bug!
He's not especially good at keeping eye contact with her
himself. Every time he does, his smile and face redness grow
until he has to look away again. "N-no no, it's- It's fine," he
tells her in response to the taking of the cupcakes. "As long
as, um, as..." His wing darts out and rests itself on
Moonlight's back. Well, "rest" is a bit of a strong word. More
it darts out, wraps around her, and pressed down and back,
pulling her a bit, and not entirely how he meant it to, but it
works...sort of. "...this isn't." It does relax though, when he
forces it to, not able to look at her.
Instead he reaches his hoof forward and grabs one of the
cupcakes out of the case. Instead of taking it for himself,
though, he holds it on front of Moonlight's face as an offering.
For you, he wants to say, but doesn't know if he should ruin it
by saying something.

When Schwambart puts his wing onto her back and brings her
closer, it takes everything within her not to smile and giggle
like a complete goof. Her cheeks stay red of course and her
breathing quickens, along with a sigh of relief. They were even
closer now... she felt safe under his wing and nuzzles into it a
bit more when he relaxes it.
Moonlight watches as he holds a cupcake up to her face, and
almost laughs. He's so cute... "Thank you." She says sweetly
before taking the cupcake in both her hooves, bringing it up to
her face and taking a bite out of it. The red velvet cupcake was
delicious and all the right amounts of sweet. She finishes the
cupcake in another bite and giggles, "That was really yummy!"
Though something felt weird... Moonlight had a feeling something
was on her nose but hoped it was her imagination. She faced
Schwam again and looked at him, wide eyed. "So....there's
something on my face isn't there?" She asks kind of
embarrassingly.

Schwambart takes one of the red velvet cupcakes himself after
hoofing off the other to Moonlight, an entirely pointless
gesture as she could have gotten it herself, but y'know. He
takes a bite out of the bottom of his, leaving as little of the
cake portion and as much of the frosting portion as possible.
"Mm-hmm," he replies sagely to Moonlight's profession of how
yummy the cupcake was, his own mouth full of his.
"Mmm?" Something on her face? Tell her that yes she does, she
has beauty on her face. Uh...Or I could just tell her that
there's frosting on her nose? Far too boring. How about...He
gets a little grin going and wipes off the whole of the frosting
on his cupcake off onto his nose. "Why, I couldn't tell you
there, Moonlight," he says, eating the rest of his cupcake and
crossing his eyes at the white and sprinkly blur on the end of
his face. "There seems to be something in the way."
