Magic Ways
By: Avery Prose Date: August 12, 2017, 9:50 am

Her sleep schedule was now a little wonky, though it was good to
know she had a couple more days off before she had to go back to
work. Avery was on her way home back to Ponyville from the train
station, her bag was nestled over her as she flew through the
sky. All she was thinking about right now (other than her
wonderful time with Ebony and Glacier) was her bed, her sweet
soft bed.
Even though she was flying through the sky, Avery was
practically about to drift off to sleep. The mare knew that she
had to keep her eyes open, it wasn't far now.
In the corner of her eye she saw what looked like a bright blue
flash on the ground. Maybe she was hallucinating, no... she
wasn't that tired. Despite her eagerness to head back home, the
pegasus flew downwards where the color was. As Avery got closer
she gasped when the sight of an unconscious stallion came into
view. The mare ran towards him, her ears folded back when she
actually recognized the poor fellow.
It was one of her regulars at the library, Asher. He came in
frequently to borrow all sorts of spellbooks and mystery novels,
Avery always liked having him around. Asher would always strike
up a friendly conversation and sometimes even help her out
around the library. There was no way she'd leave him out here.
Her home wasn't too far away, but she had to wonder why he was
out on the edge of the Everfree. Either way, she had to find out
how to carry him. It wasn't like he was exactly...light. There
wasn't much time to ponder about it, it was getting dark. Avery
looked at Asher's satchel, it had a long strap to it. She
wrapped the strap around his hind hooves and placed his satchel
into her bag, the mare started to drag his body towards her
home.
After what seemed like a long road when in reality it was maybe
ten minutes, Avery finally made it home with Asher in tow. She
kind of felt bad, not only was he laying on the edge of a forest
unconscious, he was now extremely dirty and muddy from being
dragged on the ground. Avery turned on the lights as she entered
her small home and placed down a few towels and Asher on top of
them. He looked unharmed, a few scratches but other than that it
seemed like he was just peacefully sleeping. She had a feeling
he'd be okay and sat down in her chair to take a small nap.

Asher woke himself up with a snore, as his eyes opened he was a
little startled to see such an unfamiliar place. The stallion
looked down at his hooves and body, he was extremely filthy.
What happened? Why wasn't he still in the forest with the others
and...the bird! He remembered trying to hold it down with ice!
Then how did he get here?
He stood up, grateful that he was unharmed but still very
concerned about the ponies he left behind. Would they be okay?
Asher left the room and was met with the sight of a mare
sleeping peacefully on a big plush chair. "Avery?" He didn't
mean to say it out loud, unfortunately his voice woke her.
The pegasus was startled awake, but eased up once she looked at
him. "Oh! Asher, thank Celestia you're awake." Avery yawned and
sat up in the chair.
"How'd I get here?" He asked curiously.

"I was going to ask you a similar question, why were you on the
edge of the Everfree? I found you unconscious and dragged you
back here." Avery managed a giggle, "You know, you're lucky it
was me who found you and not a group of timber wolves or
something."
She watched as Asher laughed, "Yeah trust me, I've had enough of
them for one day. But other than that...it's a long story, was
there anything else?"
Avery thought for a moment, "Well, I did see a bright blue
flash. It definitely came from you."

"Weird. I don't know what I could've done to knock myself out
and end up in a completely different location." Asher thought
out loud as he looked outside the window.
"You're a unicorn, and can't you do some really amazing things
with magic?" Avery pondered along with Asher, she had to admit,
it did sound a little odd.
"Well yeah but, that was different...and weird. I guess I'll be
going to the library a lot more the next couple days, I'm sure
there's an explanation for it." He picked up his bag and put it
back together. "Thanks for helping me out Avery, we should catch
up soon." Asher stretched and headed for the door.

The mare stood up and led Asher to the door, "It's no problem,
I'm glad you're okay. I'm looking forward to seeing you around
more, when I get back to work I'll be sure to set aside some
books for you."
Asher smiled and gave Avery a nod, "Thank you, I'll see you
soon."

Avery sat at the front desk and sipped at her tea. As usual
there were maybe a whole two patrons in the library this early
in the morning. She lifted her head up from her book as she
heard somepony enter the front door. "Asher! Good to see you,
how are you doing?" He looked as perky as normal.

"I'm doing good thank you." Asher replied before trotting up to
her desk, "Hey, do you have the books you spoke about? I think I
might know what happened, I just want to confirm my theory."
"Of course, they're right here." Avery pulled out a few books
and flew over to a nearby table and sat down.
"Always can count on you huh?" Asher smiled as he sat down,
starting to flip through the pages. "So Avery, what's been new
with you?"

"It has been a while since we last spoke hasn't it?" Avery
immediately started to smile at the thought of her special
somepony. "I'm dating somepony now! It's been...four months."
The mare leaned into her hoof as she started to daydream.
Asher raised his eyebrow and smiled, "Well congrats! Who's the
lucky one?"
Avery giggled and waved her wing, "You probably don't know him,
but his name is Ebony. He's actually the Captain of the Lunar
Guard."
Asher chuckled and took his attention away from the book in
front of him, "Does this Ebony happen to be a batpony with a lot
of scars and an all around cool stallion?"
"...Yes? Wait so you do know him." Avery giggled, "Why am I
surprised, you know a lot of ponies."
"I do. I met him during a ultra top secret mission." He stops
and looks at Avery, "Which I mean you probably know about since
you're together, but I helped him get a book. Went through a lot
of trouble to get that thing. How's he doing anyway?"
"He did mention a rather exuberant unicorn, never thought it'd
be you though. But he's doing well." Avery peeked over at the
page Asher was on, "So what do you think happened?"

"Sounds ridiculous, and I'm going to have to test out this more
but..." Asher paused and re read the page he was on. "The last
thing I remember was using my magic to hold a big bird in
place."
He sees Avery tilt her head in curiosity, "Like I said, long
story. But there was a lot going on at the time, and I have to
admit I was kind of drained. I'm not sure if my mind wanted me
to escape or what but...I think I teleported out of there."
Asher closes the book, he sighs but smiles. "I've done it
under...different circumstances but didn't know I could do it
outside of it."
"What do you mean?" Avery was curious, she wasn't a unicorn
obviously and had little to no idea of magic but she knew Asher
was very capable.
"I have this...power. When my twin sister is in trouble I can
communicate with her through her thoughts and even teleport to
her that way. But I never tried to do it outside of that
scenario, guess I can do it now. Like I said, I should probably
work on it more." Asher smiles.
"Whoa that's...so cool! Hey, why haven't I seen her around
before?" Avery inquires before Asher laughs, "Because she's a
hermit, trust me I'm getting her to work on that. She's the
reason your mystery section is always empty." He laughs while
standing up, "Thanks for the assistance Avery."
"Anytime Asher." Avery smiles and waves him off as he leaves.

away.
