Re: Snatched

Out the corner of his eye, Sadowi watched Orchid, whom he
promptly assumed to be an illusionist, wondrously lure the giant
bird away from them with a giant cat, and he busied himself in
picking up the scattered sea-gems he dropped, chasing after them
as they skidded along with the quivering of the nest as the
feathers tripped on its edges. His quick gathering journey
brought him back to where he first stuck his other sword with a
rope attached, and face to face with Asher. Or rather, his open
mouth and spittle as his horn glowed and he yelled, and the
zombie covered his face and folded back his ears while tying the
cord around a foreleg.
Sadowi looked over the rim of the platform they all stood on,
searching in vain for the large webbing. "Where? I ca--,?"
His surroundings flashed with a wave of blue, and he stared at
the shadow he cast for a heartbeat then spun around to nothing.
Asher had gone without a trace, and the enormous and quite
furious looking bird took his place in his field of view.
"Ash!" he bellowed. "ASH! Where--, damn it. Hey, uh, Orchid and,
um, you! Clair the small grey unicorn is under the edge of this
nest on a spider's web! Ahh, I'll, um, I want the bird, please
and thank you kindly!"
His gaze switched between the drop over the rim, the yellow
unicorn, the bat pony, and the bird. There might be something
mad and hairy with many legs lurking beneath and guarding their
prize, but Sadowi chose the bird. Rising onto his hind legs, he
quickly retied off his mane in a messy knot, sheathed his
weapons, and charged at the raptor with teeth bared. He'll have
to search for Asher another day, hopefully.

Brio followed Asher up into the tree and was taken aback by his
sudden disappearance. Ooooh... were these guys friends? Was he
alright? Did their friend just magically implode or something?
Ouch, that was harsh for them if so, though Brio herself was
only disappointing that she hadn't had a chance to get to know
him for longer than... what was it, like a minute? Something
like that. Either way she could only make another science
fictiony "woo" sound in response and be glad that she herself
did not have to deal with wrangling magics on the regular.
In the tree the confrontation between the giant bird and the
remaining rescuers was something that Brio could only describe
as "satisfyingly neato" and she soon spent the next few beats
acting as a cheerleader on the sidelines of the conflict. Shouts
of "get em!" and "you got this!" started to be heard as she
encouraged the group to survive - with a few confusing shouts
for the bird to keep up as well mixed in - but soon another
thought came to her that made her gasp and become starry eyed.
They were down a member right now! Meaning they might need help!
"Oh! Oh! Can I help?" She asked as if pleading to join in on a
playground game, her seemingly unconcerned about any possible
danger the bird may have presented in the mean time, "I can
help! I-I, uh, I can..." She looked around, eventually noticing
the pony on the web that had been pointed out to the group
around the same time she'd gotten to the nest and assuming that
he was the unicorn she'd been told they were on the search for,
"I can check on our boy!" With a few quick nods she zipped away,
navigating through the nest and around any obstacles and coming
to a hover above Clair.
"Heyo!" she said, clopping her front hooves together to make
some noise and try to get his attention should he have failed to
notice her coming, "Hey, you okay, my little crouton? You're the
one they're looking for, right? Are you hurt?"

The bird hit Orchid's illusion so hard that she felt some of it
and winced. That certainly wasn't close to working.
"Yikes yikes yikes." Orchid responded looking at the web. She
tried her best to angle around to see it, but seeing just the
sticky web made her shiver. "Please just tell me there is no
spider. I can barely handle a web." Thankfully, another pony
seems to have flew over. She didn't have to go on the web.
"We should quickly get that pony off the web in case something
incredibly unpleasant arrives!"

Re: Snatched
By: Clair Date: August 20, 2017, 12:27 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Clair had passed out shortly after being grabbed by the bird,
before he'd even had time to cry out. When he came to, he was
somewhere he had no idea but seemed to be...alright, mostly. He
was stuck on something sticky, though, and when he tried to move
his hind legs not only did he make no progress but also caused
shocks of pain to shoot through them, causing him to whimper and
go still once again until the pain faded some.
As soon as he'd stopped focusing so much on that, it struck him
just how alive everything around him was. Not only was there a
good amount of lively noise, most of it coming from below him
(with the exception of a large sound like rustling of a lot of
twigs and branches sounding like it was coming from almost
directly above him), but the sheer amount of life he could see.
Not just the number of life forms either. He could see many life
forces of animals and insects...and the plants. They're so much
brighter than what he's used to seeing, so much more alive, so
much more...noisy to his eyes. It makes it harder to process
precisely what he's hearing and sensing, even beyond the
distracting pain in his legs.
When the fighting had started it had sounded quite blurry to
him, but he knew there was something going on as cascades of
twigs and leaves occasionally fell on him from above, and he
thought he heard shouting, and...did somepony say his name? He
sticks his head up and looks as much as he can toward the
direction of what's happening. Unfortunately it seems to be
taking place behind him, and he tries and fails to turn, rolling
and turning his head from side to side to try to get any idea of
what's...
He stops and faces forward as...what he would best describe as a
large ball of light flies in front of him and starts talking.
It's...it's so bright. So alive. So bright that he squints at
it, not that it helps. It...no, she. It sounds like a she. She's
so bright that she blots out just about all the life around her
until she might as well be the only thing there.
It's...distracting, to say the least, but...he thinks he
understood her.
"I, my l- I think they- my legs- broken, I- I think my legs are
broken," he manages, having a hard time forming coherent
sentences. "And stu- I'm think- who's look- I can't move. Who's
looking for me?"
When the bird breaks free from the ice, it turns back around,
screeching angrily at anything and everything in front of it,
perched on the edge of its partially-demolished nest. It focuses
on the closest target, the blue pony-thing who was charging
directly at it. It screeches at him again in particular and
flaps its wings, sending great gusts at him to try to hold him
down in place, then jumps at him, trying to snatch or tear at
him with its talons.

The sudden burst of wind battered his hollow head, instantly
halting his advance and tossing back his mane and ears and thus
drowning out Brio Dreamer's shouts, and Sadowi dropped onto all
fours to keep from being blown away. He watched the bird's
approach with talons outstretched; a hiss gasped its way free
from and a knowing smile replaced itself upon his tattered lips.
Wordlessly and dodging to one side, he drew his hook and held
out the length of metal to be snatched, and with the
unmistakable harsh tug on his fore leg he leapt onto its leg,
quickly tying a knot around it and his girth with the bit of
rope to secure himself to the wings in mid flight. A swift pull
he gave the coiling to test the strength, he dug the spikes on
the undersides of his shoes into its feathery flesh and began
scaling the bird.

Oh. Well that's no good.
Brio hummed and looked over the pony's busted legs and wondered
how exactly she would go about getting him out of the web. If
the web was sticky, as most webs tend to be, trying to pry him
off while he had broken bones could cause some issues depending
on the level of stick. Either way, she didn't know if just
tugging him into the air and plummeting back to ground level
would be the wisest option with him in his current state.
"Hey, magician!" Brio called, tossing her head back to look
towards Orchid, "His legs are jacked up! He didn't say how many
so I'm going to assume all of em, and I don't wanna just tear
him off all willy-nilly. I could probably get him free of the
web, but I'm going to need a little help keeping his bones from
twisting up and junk. Do you see the spider that spun it
anywhere? We could probably cut around him if we had to so long
as we asked." She noticed the bird and the action going on in
the next, her gasping a little when she saw Sadowi's violent
methods used to grab a hold of it.
"Holy cheesums! Don't play so rough, you guys, that's a bit
extreme! It was pretty cool, but still!" The danger the bird
posed seemed to fly right over her head as she urged the two to
chill out.

"Yeah sure I can help you from here!" Orchid replied back. She
looked around. "Um... Maybe don't worry about the spider? I
would appreciate it if my greatest fear kinda stayed as far away
from here as possible until I am gone!"
She shivered at the thought of even asking one the question. She
had enough on her mind with the darn bird behind her. "I think
we should just cut it out! We don't have time! The poor pony is
probably in a lot of pain and this bird isn't calming down!
Maybe then I don't know! I can fix it!"

"It's just- broken le- I don't think- back- my legs-" Clair
takes a deep breath but is unable to articulate a sentence and
hold it in his mind long enough for it to get out through his
mouth, so he just wiggles his front legs some and hopes the
message is gotten across. One of them is dangling through a gap
in the web, the other is stuck to the top and doesn't move much.
The bird did not intend for its new passenger to have gained an
advantage from becoming a passenger, and it tries to shake him
off mid-air to maybe send it plunging to its death. When it
doesn't work and Sadowi actually starts gaining ground with his
spiked hoofwear, it shrieks in pain and dives back onto its
nest. It flails its wings wildly then starts rolling on the
nest, trying to dislodge him among the branches and treasures.
Clair continues rambling under the cacophony above him, perhaps
not too audible. "And- did I- spider- please don't put me in- I
don't want to be- salad isn't my- I'm not dressing."

The bird's frantic spins and dives had Sadowi careening over its
body down to its underside, where now upside down he promptly
lost his grip and fell, only to be held fast by his rope and
swung right back into his orbiting path around his quarry.
Through madly flying mane strands curtaining his eyes, he
watched the world shoot upwards, and again, and again, and he
could only laugh at the thrill of such exhilarating speed.
"Ha ha ha! Wheeeeee-, ...yeeeEEEEEEEE!?"
His ride came to an unceremonious end when the bird dropped onto
its nest and he along with, the floor of packed twigs and
branches rising to meet and flatten his body. Darkness set in
for a second, followed by crunching and pulling, then the zombie
watched the upper half of himself return to the air as the bird
kept up its panicked dance after rolling over him.
His makeshift rigging connecting the two of them began to fray,
and Sadowi bit down on the weakening rope and reeled himself in,
inching towards its neck before finally aiming a clamping jawful
of broken teeth down upon its soft downy flesh. The line
snapped, and out the corner of an eye and amidst the commotion
he saw the bird's beating wings blow aside the rest of him. The
nest of jagged boughs and nettles easily sheared his thin body
of stretched skin into little pieces, and what was not skewered
in place the harsh winds brushed over the rim like autumn
leaves, his legs and tail and neck and weapons. But he latched
his mouth like a leech and tried to bite even deeper.

"What?" Brio asked, swinging her attention back to the rambling
stallion on the web, "You don't think your back is broken? Well
that's great! Way to focus on the positives, buddy, just hang
onto that and I'll try to figure out how to get you off of that
web!" She hovers over him another second or two before landing
and standing over him, her hooves sticking to the web as to be
expected but being nothing that Brio didn't feel confident in
being able to pull free from. She eyed the strands of the web
that were causing the most issue and only then realized that she
probably didn't have much to cut the web with to begin with.
Brio wasn't the type to carry sharp weapons or tools with her
where she went, and this occasion was no exception to the trend
as she only really had her compass with her. Pondering what to
do and wincing at the sounds of the fighting in the nest above,
she decided to first go with a rather impractical approach.
Shrugging, then lowering her head down near Clair's, she bit on
the first strand of the web and started grinding it with her
teeth, working the frustratingly chewy material just long enough
for it to snap before pulling her head back and spitting at the
gross taste. She made a few "blegh" sounds as she gagged a
little and shook her head then, with a few beats of her wings,
pulled free of the web. "Nope!" she said, repeating this several
more times as she drifted away, "Not doin that! Hang on, dude, I
need to find a better way!" flipping around she dashed back
towards the nest and darted her attention about to try and spot
something of use.
"Anyone see a conveniently abandoned tool and or weapon that is
suited towards slicing or slashing that I could- Oh!" seeing the
birds collections of scattered shiny bobbles and things Brio
narrowed in on what looked like a broken sword. Or at least she
thought it was a sword. Long dagger? Intimidating kitchen knife?
Whatever it was it was snapped at the middle with most of its
length missing, but what was left of it was polished to a shine
that Brio assumed was the reason for it's addition to the nest.
Swooping down, she scooped up the blade's grip in her mouth and
started back towards Clair only to pause halfway and turn back.
It wouldn't be very nice to just up and steal something from the
bird like that, and she doubted anyone else out there cared
about a broken sword enough to stress over it getting picked
away and lost. She could just return it when done, but some
collateral would probably be fairly considerate.
Taking a detour, she flew over near the battle taking place
between the bird and the strange looking pony she had seen
keeping it occupied. Waiting for an opportune time to be
noticed, she waved her hoof and removed her compass from her
bag, it shiny enough to reflect light and give a decent gleam,
and set it down on the nest.
"I'mma borrow your sword thing real quick, you can have that
till I return it!" Regardless of if the bird understood, Brio
took back to the air and this time made her way back to Clair
again landing over him so as to better reach the web. Using her
rented weapon she started working the strands until only a few
remained, her pausing due to it being clear that the cutting of
any more would cause the stallion to drop free.
"I'm going to do by best to grab him, but I need you to keep his
legs from twisting or anything when we start going, okay,
magician? I can probably hold him in the air myself so long as
nothing gets in the way, but I don't want to make his injuries
worse!" Briefly explaining what she was hoping fro from the pony
back in the nest, Brio lowered herself and wrapped one of her
front hooves around Clair, telling the crouton to get ready
before snapping the final strand and causing them both to drop
down from the web. They fell several feet as Brio oriented
herself and gained a better grip over him then several more as
she flapped her wings to balance out and steady herself. Once
settled, she held Clair in the air as best she could and could
only hope that the unicorn back in the nest had somehow magic'd
his damaged bits to avoid more severe harm being caused from the
tumble.
"I'll set him down at the base of the tree!" Brio called back to
the others, understanding that a nest with an angry bird was the
last place Clair needed to be at the moment, "You guys should
probably get down here too in case anything else shows up while
we're waiting!. Doing as she said, Brio used her wings to lower
both herself and Clair down to ground level and did her best to
settle him back down on te ground with as few jostles as could
be helped.
"Whew... This has been quite a day, huh?" she said in a casual
manner, collecting the borrowed sword thing shed let fall from
the web during their brief plunge and then taking a seat near
him to watch for any timber wolves and the like, "Well, It's
only been, like, a couple hours or so for me, but you know."
