An Eye for an Eye
By: Kerry Date: October 6, 2025, 8:17 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I just heard someone mention "an eye for an eye" in an old radio
show I was listening. I decided to check out the Jewish take on
it; and after I found that, I decided to post it here. I do
like what Rashi says most of the time.
https://www.chabad.org/library/bible_cdo/aid/9882/showrashi/true
His comment was: " If [a person] blinds his neighbors eye, he
must give him the value of his eye, [which is] how much his
price to be sold in the marketplace has decreased [without the
eye]. So is the meaning of all of them [i.e., all the injuries
enumerated in the following verses], but not the actual
amputation of a limb, as our Rabbis interpreted it in the
chapter entitled
הַחוֹבֵל, he who
assaults."
How wrong can we be if we think that means anyone who blinds an
eye of his neighbor has to have one of his own eyes put out.
That would be barbaric and wouldn't help anyone. Money would
probably help his neighbor more.
I have also seen an interpretation that says we should
understand it is limiting the damages. If you put out an eye,
you cannot be made to pay damages for two eyes. A court could
also reduce the penalty. It doesn't mean the penalty must be
the value of an eye. It could be less if the court saw
extenuating circumstances.
How easy it can be to try to over-simplify things. Jesus was so
right when he said this:
Matthew 5:38 38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for
an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever
shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
Yes, they were still saying "an eye for an eye" in a vengeful
way in that old radio program I heard. It made me laugh. Maybe
I shouldn't have laughed, but I did.

I apologize if I'm reading the situation incorrectly; but I
can't go on posting here. I'll frankly admit the stress is
getting to me. Perhaps other members don't realize what they're
doing is causing me stress; I would not want to accuse them
since I can't read their minds; but I have enough stress in my
life already . . . as I realize many others do.
It seemed like a good idea at first for me to join. Perhaps my
posts would inspire others to post more. That's not the case.
If anything maybe others are avoiding posting because of me. I
don't seem to be inspiring "unity" at any rate. So I'm leaving
and wish you all well.

Tennison wrote "more things are wrought by prayer than this
world dreams of".
Nothing to do with prayer, except that Tennison's quote came to
my mind just as I was thinking of the enormity of the fact that
there are 'more things than this world dreams of' without
relating them to prayer.
And Kerry's closing of his account came right at the time when I
was thinking deeply about Kerry's past claims to have been the
reincarnation of Joseph-Antoine Boullan, the defrocked French
Roman Catholic priest who had been (rightly or wrongly)
accredited with being a 'Satanist' who sacrificed children as
part of his 'Satanism'.
As a result of those thoughts I had logged on to see if Kerry
had in fact used his email address when he joined the Forum.
And as soon as I logged-in there was Kerry's announcement that
he was closing his membership.
Was it all merely a coincident or was it not just part of the
'sixth sense' reality of life being but a part of the existence
of an enormously intriguing web of interrelationships that is
"more than this world dreams of"?
Kerry would reckon so (and BTW he had indeed used it as his
registration email).
So here we are, back to just eleven members, many of whom have
not even logged-in for months (some not even for 'years').
Shall we spring back to a faint resemblance of life, or shall we
'call it a wrap'.
I will leave it as it is (or as it 'was') under the banner of
"Where two or three are gathered .....".
It will close itself down if it dwindles to just 'one'.

Personally I think its a shame he felt that he should leave, I
have interacted on and off with Kerry throughout the years of
forum life. Also conveying information regarding his email
address is not fair Mike, this is placing it in the public
domain, which you do not have that right to do. You complained
about the one person who was posting continuously, which is a
shame as I thought all were suppose to be welcome here.

Rita, I have immediately deleted Kerry's full email address
before anyone other than yourself has logged-in and had a chance
to note it.
Nevertheless every senior/full member upwards has access to a
full range of 'permissions' enabling all to see each other's
full email address.

Hi Mike,
Not sure that justifies you adding it to a thread that can be
viewed by guests, regardless of the reality that not many people
may be looking in. I merely conveyed my opinion on the matter,
maybe being a moderator on another forum that would not have
allowed it dictated that opinion. I was going to delete it
myself as I am a mod here, but wasnt sure you would like me
doing that as, in theory, you above me.
Such a shame he felt he couldnt stay

I'm a very tired (and very old) man.
I hate being "above" anyone.
It would give me great peace if you and I could reverse roles,
before I very soon 'bite the dust'
You've had the experience of starting up and running your own
forum and been a moderator at that 'other' large forum, and
presumably have the time now that you've retired
How's about it?
I would pay any costs involved and I feel sure Nicky would sort
out what needs to be done.

Sorry Mike but I know nothing about running an actual forum - I
have never had one of my own, and I struggle with tech things
and understanding domains ect. Yes I do have moderating
experience, but I was not on the admin team and they use to do
things I had no access to, it is true that I do have the time.
To be honest , right now, no one is really posting - Dave hasnt
been here for a while now.

I will give it some thought Mike xx
I kind of gave up on forums a little while ago because being a
moderator on Christian board was just so draining. I look back
over the years of being there and wonder what was achieved. You
couldnt be real there, that actually was the difference here on
one level but I always felt a disloyalty because of my official
role on the other forum. That is no longer the case.
So the answer right now is I have no idea
We are all getting older, sadly, but that doesnt mean we should
be obsolete - I do have a desire to teach or relay
lessons learned along the way, especially with inner healing but
also with encounters with mental health, suicidal attempts,
abortion, divorce, unfaithfulness, sexuality , abuse. Thats
what is on my heart, but there isnt an audience for that kind of
thing here , and yet when you asked me the question earlier
today something resonated - but I am not sure why yet. Also a
whole array of negatives about my abilities !

Well I thought Id pop on here as Dave said things look a wee
bit as if things are going sideways .
Never underestimate yourself Rita , just keep confidence in
Gods leading. Just be you and share from your heart as you
have done for 30 years! None of us have anything of ourselves
, we just yield and let God and He flows out ( or not, as the
case may be! :D
No big decisions to make , no rush. Let peace reign , God
leads , the Devil drives.
All is good , all is well. ✝️
Love to all ..x
