From One Tem To Another (Bob and Amarillo)

[sub]In Character Date & Time: 17th November UUY 1,
approximately midday
Set after Woofing Around Town
http://undergroundunlimited.createaforum.com/snowdin/woofing-around-town/[/sub]
[hr]
It was the peak of the day within the heart of Snowdin. Sounds
of monsters small congregations washed together, forming a
murmur and movement of a river as they passed by each other.
Some monsters streamed off into shops and other businesses
without disrupting the flow, some would stand and let the
traffic flow around them. Nothing dammed or froze this routine,
or tried to.
Patiently excusing his path through the flow, Bob lightly
trotted his prints into the snow. His paws caught pinches of the
cold with each patter, but it was barely a bother to wail about.
His beanie brought enough warmth to his ears and head to
compensate, though he made a note to find boots for when hed
venture to this part of the underground on colder days.
He eventually split off the crowd towards the regretfully
misspelt library. It had been a while since he had taken the
time to simply sit in silence for light reading that others
criticized was too heavy, especially for entertainment rather
than knowledge. He was hopeful that there would be something to
suit his tastes available on the shelves this day.

It was the small sounds of the Inn that woke her up. Usually,
the Temmie wasn't affected by this sort of thing; she was known
as a heavy sleeper. But today, she jerked awake when she heard
talking outside of her door. Yawning, she dragged herself out of
bed and pulled on the sweater that she had been wearing the day
before. She had read almost a third of the book that she had
checked out, and she was eager to read more. Shaking her head,
she found a couple dollars and her room keys before leaving.
Food came before books; she had taught herself this a while ago.
Amarillo trotted down the hallway before descending the stairs.
She smiled briefly at the monsters she came across, and thanked
the Innkeeper as she passed by. As she left Snowed Inn, she
thought that the bell was ringing a faint farewell. She knew she
would be back, though. Amarillo planned to stay another night.
She headed down the street towards the library. The Temmie had
decided the night before that she would visit it again to see if
she could find any more interesting books.

It was a relief for Bob to finally be fully independent of the
traffic flow. He could finally take his time and not have to
pain his short legs from an almost unmanageable speed. At the
library door he gently dusted off his feet and shook the snow
off of him in a doglike manner. Hed rather not have the
librarians sweep up the snowy trail hed leave behind.
Bob pushed the door open with his nose, kicking back any snow he
may have missed. It gently shut behind him and he smiled with
the decrease in volume and somewhat warmer environment. He took
the time to gently wipe his glasses clean, and though subject to
smears he made do with his efforts, deciding to properly clean
them at home. With a pleasant trot in his step, he made his way
to the fiction section, starting to browse the aisles for
anything to meet his craving for literature.

The small Temmie strolled into the library, after making sure
that there hadn't been any snow trailing her inside. She looked
around for a section that she might be insterested in, and
finally made her way over to the fiction books. Amarillo looked
around for the science fiction books and, once she spotted them,
she quickly started skimming over the titles. There were many
books about the stars and even more about monsters living
above-ground. She pulled one of them out and flipped to a random
page.
Amarillo, suddenly curious as to what other monsters might have
the same interests as herself, looked around the fiction
section. She froze when she spotted a familiar monster wearing a
beanie. She shook her head, it couldn't possibly be who she
thought it was. Looking back at him again, the Temmie smiled,
realizing that it was, in fact, her old friend, Bob the Temmie.
She got to her paws quickly and trotted over to him, smiling.
Amarillo hadn't seen the other Temmie in almost a year and she
had been wondering how he had been doing. As she approached him,
she chirped out a friendly "Hoi!" in the Temmish language in an
attempt to throw him off.

Bob's taste led him to inspecting a couple of historical fiction
books, one set during the war and the other sometime before it.
He set them both down in front of him, contemplating which one
of the two would be his next endeavour of the mind of these
authors. He didn't have a coin on him to toss either. Simply
selecting A or B would definitely make him double check his
decision. He knew he could come back and read them again at any
time, but he didnt know which one hed rather read more.
His repetitive chain of thought was thankfully interrupted as he
flinched from hearing the traditional greeting of his kind,
which on the worst days in Temmie Village sounded like a broken
record. He was often bombarded with them after spending a few
days out of the village, and hed forget this instance almost
every time. As he regathered himself he looked over to the grin
of its source, and he became enthralled to see one of his few
'students' again after so long.
"Well, if it isn't Amarillo," he smiled in return,
subconsciously pushing his glasses back up his nose with a light
chuckle. "How long has it been since we've seen each other - a
year? Well, we've been keeping ourselves busy, I'm sure. How
have you been doing? Are you still keeping up with your
astronomy projects?" He was legitimately interested after not
seeing her for so long, as they had developed quite a bond when
he had taught her the common language of the Underground.

Amarillo smiled as she approached her old mentor. She was very
glad that she could meet him again, and she hoped to impress him
with how much she had taught herself. "It has almost been, erm,
a year. I've been doing well...um, what about you?" She stopped
to fiddle with her glasses. Amarillo had noticed that she was
still stumbling over the words of the common language and she
wished that she could just talk normally.
"I have been... working on my astronomy projects. Quite a lot,
erm, recently. I still go to that small, um... clearing that you
showed me. " She glanced around, unsure of what else to chat
about. Amarillo finally looked over at the isle they were in. "
I see that you are still, um...into historical fiction. Have
you, er, found anything interesting lately?"

Bob smiled to hear good of the young Temmie's well being. He did
notice mild reluctance within some of her words, but that didn't
change the pride he felt with her accomplishment. Learning
another language, no matter how similar it may or may not be to
one's own, was difficult from his own experience, and having his
student speak it gave him joy to see hard work performed by
someone else by his help.
In response to Amarillo's question he replied, "Things haven't
been bad myself. I'm still keeping up with all the usual
activities." He decided not to mention the slight disturbances
that many around Waterfall had encounter in the past year. Bob
figured that was universal.
"Ah, yes!" He beamed at the mention of the clearing. He had
found the inspiration for many creative works around that area.
"That location is always mesmerizing, isn't it? It is great that
you're putting such dedication to the subject."
The mention of the reading brought his gaze down to the books he
was tossing between. "I have not picked one of these up in a
while, actually," he admitted. "I have been expanding my
literary horizons, and I haven't gotten back to one in a while.
I get the feeling that this will be nostalgic to my tastes."

The Temmie, after a moment of processing what Bob had said,
grinned back at him. She was happy to hear that he was doing
well. She was vaguely familiar with the "usual" activities that
Bob had mentioned, but she chose not to ask more about it.
She touched one book lightly with her nose. The Temmie had read
it a couple months ago, and she had found it very educational
and entertaining. "I, erm, recommend this one. It is a memoir
from a Lesser Dog, um... guard. Although it seems old, it is
actually very... erm, humorous."
Amarillo nodded her head in response to Bob remembering the
clearing. "Yes, I go there, um... mostly at night. I'm still
working on, erm, learning new words and... um, rules of the
Language. " Amarillo suddenly remembered one of their lessons
that had taken place in her favorite clearing, and she also
remembered that that had been the day Bob had been teaching her
about a few of the constellations. She smirked at the thought of
herself spouting out sentences that hadn't made sense at all
about the stars. "Do you remember the, um, first day you brought
me to that clearing? Erm, I believe that was the day I was
attempting to find, um, Carina."

Bob's head tilted as he noticed the recommendation, going onto
his hind paws to pull it out and bring it closer to the floor to
softly fall. He took a brief note of the title before turning
the cover over and quickly skimming the first couple of pages.
Every few seconds his head intriguingly nodded, his mouth
slightly hung open. "Huh," he mused as he shut the cover. "I
think I shall give this one a try instead. Seems like a
fantastic recommendation."
He took a few moments to ponder over that memory, not having
recollected it in a while. "Yes... It was quite an enthralling
time for you." He chuckled lightly, but made it a short one. "I
can't quite remember the kinds of things you said when I showed
you there, but they were certainly out of the ordinary."

Amarillo watched him as he read, and smiled to herself. She was
slightly proud of herself for finding something that her former
instructor would be interested in. She nodded at him. "I really,
um, hope that you like it. "
The small Temmie laughed as well. "I believe, erm, that I said
something along the line of... um, 'What is star conservation?'
" She laughed again shortly. "I, erm... was always getting
those two, um, words mixed up. "
