Through the Echo Flowers

Meka had originally thought it was a good idea to leave Link and
Jo to head to the lab on their own. Originally being the key
word. She wasn't even half way home due to her continuously
turning back before advancing again. They'd be fine, right? Jo
was very defensive and Link was a strong attacker. However, she
had left them without any form of medic. She was needed back
home though... but this could be a life or death situation...
She had to tell Kapral about the stars... but the person who
told her about them could potentially be in danger. The boss
monster pressed her back against a cold stone wall and slowly
slid down the surface, making a soft noise as she made contact
with the ground.
"What do I do?" she said to no-one.
"What do I do?" a blue flower mimicked. Soon more began to mimic
the first.
"What do I do? What do I do? What do I do? What do I do?" the
flowers cried out. It seemed that every Echo flower within range
was ever so eager to repeat her question, but naturally none
would answer it. Meka sighed and listened to the questioning
flowers and the crashing of a near by waterfall. She could hear
something else among these sounds... it sounded almost like foot
steps.
"Hello?" She called out.
"Hello? Hello? Hello?" The flowers repeated.

Boomerang was taking a stroll towards the ruins. He had intended
to stop at Grillby's for a snack. I can't wait! was his initial
thought as he walked. "Just a quick patrol, a snack.." This time
he spoke allowed. "But definitely the snack first," he said with
a nod.
He continued to walked, slowing to a stop when he heard a voice.
He cringed a bit at the echoing flowers, but the echoes the
emitted had him a bit concerned. He made his way towards the
voices, stopping once more once he got to the flowers. He peered
around until he saw the boss monster. Tilting his head he walked
towards her, waving his hand in the air. "Hey," he called, to
her, trying to ignore the flowers now mimicking him.

The walk with Link was soon cut short as the familiar sound of
Meka's voice reverberated across the cavern, a new voice soon
following. "Meka?" Her soft voice was echoed around her, the
sound expanding away from her within...... 'Echo flowers.' The
words formed in her mind and soon her thoughts enveloped into a
memory, a small smile forming on her lips. "Nya." The flowers
echoed her noise, a giggle piercing the air and soon followed
the previous echo, the giggle forming to a laugh. 'Why does this
make me so happy? It's just flowers.' "Okay, Link, let's take a
detour for a minute, I gotta show you something." Her now
childish mind took over as she sat by an echo flower, her face
beaming in joy.

Meka first noticed Boomerang and then the sound of a familiar
voice as the echo flowers mimicked Jo.
"Oh, hello!" she called out to Boomerang. The boss monster got
to her feet and walked slowly and hesitantly over to the other
monster.
"I h-haven't seen you before" she said as she got a better look
at the golden canine kid. He appeared to be a similar age to
her, perhaps even a bit younger.

"Yeah... I kind of do my own thing..." Boomerang laughed a bit.
"I take back routes and i don't see many monsters in 'em." He
held out his hand. "Name's Boomerang." He greeted. He continued
before she responded. "So, what don't you know what you should
do about?" His ear twitched at the sound of the echoing flowers.
He wanted to see who was there, but they seemed a less pressing
matter than a young monster in a possible dilemma.

Meka nodded and took Boomerang's extended hand, shaking it
gently. She then blushed slightly, embarrassed that the echo
flowers had alerted others of her dilemma.
"My name is Meka" she started, "and I'm just a b-bit unsure as
to whether or not I should return to my place of dwelling or if
I should continue on my journey to h-help out a friend". She
offered a sheepish grin and shook her head uncertainly.

Boomerang tapped his chin. "That is a puzzler..." He moved his
hands behind his head, kicking his foot a few times. "We you
close to this friend? Were they in a real jam? Or is it best to
just move on?" His voice came out as if the answer was obvious,
but really he was sincerely asking her questions, trying to help
her make the decision.

Hearing the voices some more, her giggling subsided, turning the
echo flower in the direction she assumed the conversation.
'Guess this game does come in handy. Who knew?' Her lips were
sealed and her movements were almost unnoticeable, taking the
conversation in through the small flower cupped in hands.
'What's this guy's deal? Were? More like are.'

Now that she thought about it she had only just met Link so
although they were getting along incredibly well she couldn't
say she was close... she knew almost nothing of his past and
wasn't sure if she would be included in his future. Especially
if he was trying to get to the surface. Perhaps he could take
care of himself... but his violent ways did tend to worry her,
and she wasn't sure if Jo would be able to stop him from using
his sword to quickly resolve conflict.
"I guess it isn't just the friend that I'm worried about, but
the monsters he may encounter along his journey. I can tell he
has the kindness to give mercy, but not the patience" she said
with a sigh.
"My presence back home is simply needed due to the day growing
old... and if I don't return home my parents will worry" the
boss monster continued.

Her unmoving lips opened as her mouth formed a gasped, a flicker
of a memory appearing in the back of Jo's mind. 'Her.' A face
couldn't be conjured from the memory, but a towering figure was
all that was seen, the flare of red hair bright against the hazy
memory. 'If we run into her.....' The thought was unfinished as
she got up, walking back. 'I can't just walk into the situation
like this. Link and I need a cover.' "Meka? Meka, you here?" Her
voice echoed loudly against the cavern walls, the sound growing
louder as it moved away from her.
