Grillby still had the thought of the other place just a bit away
from his own establishment. Espresso Yourself. The name was a
fantastic play on words and quite frankly it was quite clever.
He shed himself of his coat and placed it on the rack right
outside the back door. He wiped his feet on the little mat just
in front of the door before walking into the warm establishment.
The place was naturally warm thanks to the AC but when Grillby
came in...it heated up quite a bit. In his eyes it was a
comfortable amount, and most of his customers seemed to stay for
quite a while when they did come to stop in. It must've been
comfortable.
The flaming man turned the sign around at the window showing a
neon sigh that lit up saying 'OPEN' as soon as the switch was
flipped. He had only been behind the counter polishing glasses
for ten minutes before customers began coming in. He waved to
those who said hello and nodded to the shyer more quiet folk
that didn't. He didn't consider them rude because he knew how
they were and it didn't bother him one bit. Everyone was
welcome. Grillby himself didn't talk much unless very excited
and those kinds of instances were rare. He mostly nodded and
listened and it didn't seem to bother his patrons when he didn't
talk either. Today his other workers were off so it would just
be him today. He began taking orders when requested
immediately, turning on the stoves and letting the beverage
machine turn on. He only offered special sodas for those who
didn't like drinking anything alcoholic and his special sodas
contained about as much syrup as a dog contained rust...which
was to say not much at all. He liked unhealthy things to be as
healthy as possible and he never told his patrons but
fortunately for him they liked them.

Linny was walking on her way through the woods, sighing softly
and watching a breath of fog dissipate into the air. She
continued to trek over twigs and branches that had fallen from
the weight of the snow, until she made it to the path that led
to the sentry stand. "Well... Off to Grillby's." She said to
herself, smiling excitedly as she thought about the signature
burgers that the flame elemental crafted with ease.
She followed the beaten, snow-covered path and soon found
herself walking past the "Welcome to Snowdin" sign. She paused,
looking at the scenery around her, smiling as she noticed a new
business. "Espresso Yourself, eh? That's awesome!" She
exclaimed, again, to herself, before she eagerly walked into
Grillby's establishment and sat herself in her normal seat at
the bar. "Heya, Grillby! How's it going?" She asked the monster
behind the bar as she took her fur-lined hood off of her head,
revealing her head of light blue hair that seemed to be formed
with magic.

Grillby was subconsciously cleaning the bar counter as he
drifted off into his thoughts. He was snapped out of his little
daze as the front entrance to his establishment came open, the
bell jingling to further inform him of the new arrival. As they
situated themselves and called out to him he gave a mighty grin.
"Why hello there Linny. I haven't seen your face in ages. I hope
you've been well," he said with a warm tone. A very nice
conversation starter if he ever knew one. Swiftly the cloth in
his hand vanished now replaced with a spray bottle. The man of
fire turned his back to the counter and to the wood of the
backer's rack.
All of the glasses had already been moved to the shelf under the
counter just for this cleaning session. It was always good to
plan ahead. Carefully spraying certain sections in order not to
overuse and abuse the product, Grillby made sure his finger
lightly tapped the trigger after each spray. Once satisfied with
the oiled concotion he began wiping it down with a sponge used
specifically for cleaning and shining wood. After a minute or so
he was then drying the wood and replacing the glasses back where
they belonged.
"Perfect," the man muttered to himself. After doing a complete
360 Grillby looked to Linny. "Can I get you anything?"

Linny grinned as she politely waved at a few of the other
patrons who had said their "hello's" before she intently averted
her attention back to the flame elemental. "Eh... I've been as
good as I could be, living in the middle of the woods.
Thankfully it's not a long distance to a quality restaurant."
She said as she emphasized her compliment with a playful wink.
She smiled as she glanced at the alcohol menu and scanned for
options.
She found her choice, smiling softly before she inhaled,
smelling the woodsy, smoky scent that permeated the bar. "Sure,
Grillby.. I'll have the signature burger and... Uhh... Surprise
me with anything, drink-wise.." She said with a lazy smile,
knowing that he had monster alcohols that could knock someone
out for up to 3 days. She had confidence that he wouldn't serve
whatever that drink was to her, mostly because of his
gentlemanly demeanor. She was practically vibrating with
excitement and hunger, her bones softly rattling together,
making an aesthetically pleasing noise that could make anyone
fall asleep.
Her eyelights quickly darted from booth to table to booth,
observing the customers silently and subtly before she sneakily
wiped a finger over the freshly cleaned bar surface and rubbing
it on the inside of her hood. She knew it was odd, but she knew
this was the only place in Snowdin that produced the glorious
woody aroma that she favored, allowing her to calm down and
relax in. So she wasn't bothered by the possibility of someone
calling her out for being weird because, quite frankly, she
already knew she was.

Linny groaned inwardly as she felt her phone vibrate one more
time with a ringtone following suite. "WHAT DO YOU WANT- oh..
Sorry bout that... Yeah, I'm heading over.." Linny almost cried
as she started grabbing her belongings and placed her hand on
the bar longingly, hesitant to leave. "Yo, Grillby! I'm heading
out, there's a family emergency.." She said to the elemental,
knowing that even though it was just a friend, they were all the
family she had left. She left a pile of 75G on the bar surface
with a smiley face drawn on a napkin next to it. She was already
gone and heading farther into town.

Grillby offered a warm smile with a nod of his flaming head.
"You've got it." The man headed into the back to warm up those
fryers. He made sure the settings were on low so he could move
away and head back to the front of the bar. Making drinks and
food came naturally with all the years of training he had under
him. It only took about 5 minutes for everything to come
together but before he could put the plate down Linny's phone
had vibrated and with it she looked to be a bit panicked.
Suddenly she was leaving money for food she hadn't even touched
and running out the door. Grillby stared down at the plate.
". . . ." He could not accept this money, so instead he placed
it in a glass jar and locked it in one of the bottom drawers so
it could at some point, safely be returned to her. Now what to
do with the food.... He wasn't particularly hungry and he
couldn't let it go to waste.
"This meal is on the house for anyone who wants it."

Some time had passed and soon the bar was relatively empty. Not
that Grillby minded any but the fact that no one had wanted the
free meal both puzzled and surprised him. He never had any lack
of faith towards his patrons but they all wanted to pay for
their own meals. Was it a means of independence or something
else he just wasn't sure but it was heart-warming. After
polishing the wood, and re-cleaning all of the glasses Grillby
began to clean up the kitchen, wiping down the stove, cleaning
the frying pans and such. Anything to keep his establishment
clean and welcoming.
Finally h had done everything but take the free food out of the
warmer. It seemed he would have to throw it away after all.
There was no way anyone would want reheated food from the day
before. Grillby wasn't even comfortable preparing something like
that for someone. He liked to give his patrons fresh meals and
this one here...wasn't going to be fresh tomorrow. Before
taking it out he walked around the bar counter to go and turn
the OPEN sign. It was time to close up soon anyway.

Geneva watched from only a few feet away as the Grillbar owner
walked towards the window to turn the sign so she stopped
walking. It was too late after all...but maybe she could still
get something. "I don't want to be a nuisance...but I've always
wanted to eat here." She pressed gently against the door until
it opened, a bell chiming above her head as it came open full
swing. "P-Please pardon the intrusion. I know you're closing but
I was wondering if I could just by one little thing real quick.
I'm sorry but I don't have anything left in my home...." The
siren muttered as she played with her fingers, avoiding the fire
man's gaze all together. This was beyond embarrassing especially
for a hermit like herself. Usually she was always prepared but
some things just didn't fall into place like she had wanted them
to.
"I understand if I can't I was just wondering."

An old voice she hadn't heard since her father had worked in the
core had been hissing into her ear through the phone, spouting
out nasty words about her father's past and the actual monster
he was. "You know what, I'm ending this here, Gatsby. You can go
and eat a hotcat.". She was completely ticked off that her dad's
closest friend would confront her through the phone like that.
She sighed, hanging up after blocking his number from being able
to contact her, hoping it would hold him off for a while. She
hadn't gone far, so she turned around and walked back to
Grillby's. She opened the door and smelled the woodsy scent
again. It was empty besides one other face, someone new that she
hadn't met before. "Hey, uh.. Sorry about that Grillby.. It was
a false alarm. I didn't mess anything up, did I? I probably
did... Ughh... I'll make it up Grillby." She said with a
stressed look upon her face, her light teal locks curling softly
against her beanie. She felt heat in her eyesockets, trying to
suck the tears back in so she wouldn't seem like she was trying
to get pity.
She waited as she watched Grillby preparing to close up, hoping
that she didn't make him waste an order of food. She would feel
horrible if she had, a heavy feeling filling her stomach, the
gross, fluttery feeling of guilt approaching. She sat down on
her usual bar stool, placing her skeletal phalanges against her
temples and forehead, letting out a breath of stale air.
Thankfully, Grillby was a monster she felt comfortable around,
despite her inactivity in the small town.
