Press Conference... ?
By: Dragons Den Date: November 24, 2016, 6:06 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Dragon stands at the dais before a crowd of gathered media
pundits. He looks tired and worn, not the jovial manager that
used to take these media announcements. He's also dressed in an
old suit.
"Umm... hey, folks."
There is a strange hush over the room. It's clear there is an
announcement to make, but Dragon's willingness to make such
isn't so clear.
"Thanks... thanks for coming here today. I'm sure you could be
doing better things. Golf... brunch... just... general fucking
around..."
He's slow, weary, not in any rush whatsoever to get to the
point. In fact, the point never truly comes.
"It is with a heavy heart that I come here today. I um..."
Dragon huffs, audibly sighing, eyes down at the podium, fingers
tapping idly against the wooden stand. For about half a minute.
"I dunno really..."
He trails off again, glancing thoughtfully towards the side of
the stage.
One of the media caddies tries to spur the Dragons Den manager
along. "Is everything okay at the Den?"
Another hush from the gathered reporters as Dragon slowly turns
back to face them.
"Um... sure. It, umm..."
His eyes dart down again, contemplative and obviously unsure
about proceeding with whatever the press announcement is.
The crowd pipes up a little as from side-stage, Den stable
leader Sophia Bush enters, approaching the dais. She places an
arm around Dragon's waist and leans up to his ear.
"We don't have to do this today, D." She holds his gaze as he
addresses her, ignoring the room full of journalists for a
moment. "There's plenty of other days for this," she whispers.
"It's clearly not the right time."
He looks lost for a minute, but eventually breaks into a warm
grin and kisses her forehead, before turning to the room once
more.
"Umm... again, thanks for coming. I'm afraid I may have to
postpone for today. I'll um..." He glances at Sophia. "We'll
reschedule during the week. Sorry to keep you all in suspense.
May have been a pre-emptive press conference demand on my
behalf. That's all." He gives a little apologetic smile to the
crowd, as if to suggest it's no big deal.
Another journalist pipes up, trying to pry for a little more
than the nothing they have received. "Can you say anything about
the Den right now?"
Dragon thinks a moment. "Um... yeah, sure. I want to, from the
very bottom of my heart, thank every single woman that has been
involved with the Den over the past few years. The place would
never have succeeded in any fashion, had it been missing just
one of those incredible women. They have all played a tremendous
part in shaping the stable, and will all forever hold a very
dear place in my heart. I have been very fortunate as a stable
owner in this league, and could not possibly have hoped for a
greater group to share it all with. They make going to that
place every single day... worthwhile." He glances at Sophia
again with a smirk. "And of course I have the best stable leader
I ever could have hoped for. So, ummm... yeah, that's what I've
got to say about the Den." He nods. "That's it, for now. Sorry
again about the... uhh... false alarm, shall we say."
Dragon gives a little apologetic wave as he slowly steps across
the stage and behind the scenes once more with Sophia in tow.
Once off the stage, Dragon slumps against the wall, hands coming
up to run through his hair, exhaling slowly, audibly.
"Fuck... that was... difficult."
"And you didn't even technically do it," Sophia reminds him,
stepping close, wrapping her arms around his back and leaning
in, pressing her cheek tightly against his chest.
"Yeah," he muses, "I just... couldn't. It's too fucking real."
He shakes his head contemplatively as his arms lower to hug her
close to him. "It's one thing for me to decide that it needs
doing, but then, when it comes to the actual reality of it. I
mean, this stable is my damn home."
"Mine too," She says nodding, still holding him tight. "But if
you're sure, you're sure."
"Well... how do I know? I couldn't say it just then."
"Then... maybe you're not. I dunno." She leans up and gives him
a quick kiss. "You know you have my support either way. I'll
understand. It's a fucking tough thing."
"Damnit." Dragon sighs, eyes locking with Sophia's. "Well, at
least you've bought me another few days to think about it..."

Bought you another few days? More like temporarily rescued you
from a mess. But, I don't think anyone's buying that you called
the press conference to shower your fighters with accolades.
Seems to me something is amiss in Dragonland, and I suspect the
press will be beating down your door looking for answers.
I, meanwhile, will be very interested to see what they turn up.
:P
