Blurred Lines

No, not like the song... :P
Okay, so I wanted to do something... different. Kinda. Different
character-wise, anyway. I don't know how this'll take or where
it's necessarily going to end up later. If I fail, I'll just
delete it and it never happened, right? ;)

Blurred Lines:
Recent Dragons Den recruit Abbie Cornish was on a mission, and
she had managed to find Olga Kurylenko for a quick chat.
So, is it true that no-one here likes you? Abbie asked
nonchalantly.
No, Olga answered flatly. Me and Sophia have tea party every
Wednesday.
Abbie smirked. Ha. Funny.
Why? You care?
Not at all, Abbie said shaking her head. Just getting a lay
of the land.
There was a long silence before Olga spoke again.
You want conversation you should find Briana, Olga suggested.
Shes really friendly.
Olga moved to walk away, but Abbie grabbed her arm.
Is it true that Brianas the teachers pet here?
Olga laughed softly. Now you are funny.
Why?
Yes, Olga answered. She is the favourite child.
What proof do you have?
All of it, Olga shrugged. She did interview exclusive for TKO
magazine to be published in month or two. Nobody else gets
that.
Abbies eyes narrowed. So, she gets this special treatment and
this doesnt bother you?
No, Olga shrugged again. I do not understand it, but I do not
want to be the favourite, and so I do not care.
Abbie studied her for a moment. Youre meant to be the resident
badass here, arent you? And yet you let Briana call the shots?
Olga raised an eyebrow. You have point?
Well, if you cant make things right, maybe someone a little
more badass will have to.
You? Olga scoffed.
Abbie stepped closer, getting right in Olgas face. Just stay
out of my way, Olga. I think youll be safer not getting
involved.
With that, Abbie turned and headed towards Dragons office,
leaving Olga to watch her suspiciously as she left.

There was a knock at Dragons and door and promptly in stepped
Abbie Cornish, closing the door behind her. He signalled for her
to enter and she approached, taking a seat in the leather
armchair opposite his desk.
Well, gday, gday, Abbie grinned slyly. I hope you dont
expect me to call you Boss.
Dragon laughed. You should know better than that.
Good, Abbie nodded.
So, how are you settling in? Dragon asked.
Abbie shrugged. Okay so far. Just ran into Olga.
Great, Dragon said sarcastically. Howd that go, then?
She seemed upset about something. Cursed Briana out pretty
hard. Something about her getting special treatment. Magazine
interviews and things.
Dragon looked concerned. Really...?
Yeah. I think Id keep an eye on her.
Dragon nodded. Sure thing. Ill let Sophia know too, since
shes got more time to spend down in the training rooms than I
do.
Good, good. Im sure shell be all over it.
Thanks, Dragon smiled.
No worries. Thats pretty much all I wanted to pass along.
Dragon nodded. Im heading off now anyway, so Ill see you
tomorrow.
You will indeed, Abbie assured him before standing and making
her leave from the office.

That evening, Abbie found Bri packing up around the training
cages. It appeared they were the only two left in the facility.
All the lazy f*ckers bail already? Abbie laughed.
Bri looked over to see the new Den recruit and smiled. Yeah,
pretty much. Rach and I just finished up, but shes already
taken off. I dont think anyones still hanging around. Mondays
after an event arent often too late an affair.
Abbie grinned. Well, I havent gotten much of a spar in today.
You mind giving me one last run?
Bri shrugged. Sure. Be thankful you caught me before I hit the
showers. Theres no way Id be coming back out here.
Thanks, Abbie nodded, placing her bag by the wall and removing
a pair of gloves from the side pocket. We wont have to stay
too long.
Bri opened the door to the nearest training cage and stepped in,
taking her ready position in the far corner.
Abbie stepped in and closed the cage door behind her, before
lacing up her gloves. She then took to the opposite corner and
readied her stance.
Ready? Bri asked.
Abbie nodded and the two fighters stepped closer, ready to go.
Bri threw a couple of test jabs, which Abbie blocked. Then Abbie
stepped and ripped a low hook hard to Bris left side. Her ribs
rattled and she winced. It was much harder than she had expected
Abbie to go.
Sorry, Abbie said with a smirk. Guess I dont know my own
strength.
Its okay, Bri assured her, before throwing a couple more jabs
and then taking a left hook and a solid right straight to the
temple.
Bri staggered and stepped away, but Abbie followed.
We sparring or playing for keeps? Bri half-joked as she shook
out the cobwebs.
Abbie said nothing but pushed and laid three crisp jabs that Bri
blocked. Abbie followed with fake to the left and another hard
hook that ripped into Bris left side once more. Bri grunted
loudly on that one.
Depends, Abbie said, her friendly demeanour having suddenly
given way to a fierce snarl. Do you intend on staying the
teachers pet and hogging the limelight here forever?
Bri gave a look of genuine confusion before swiftly having to
raise her guard and pedal sideways as more hooks flew towards
her. She dodged most of the attack but caught one on her right
side and stepped back until she hit the fence unexpectedly.
Whats the problem here? Bri asked, slightly panicked.
I didnt come here to play second fiddle to you, is the
problem, Abbie snapped. So either back the f*ck down, or Im
going to beat you down.
Bri kept her guard up, trying to look for a way out. But Abbie
was bigger than her and commanded the space of the cage well.
She was basically going to have to either talk or punch her way
out of this.
Im not backing down cause youre having envy issues, Bri
said, holding her ground. Were done here. Take one more swing
at me and Im gonna be swinging back.
Abbie gave a sinister grin. Good enough for me
Even semi-prepared for that response, the lightning right hook
took Bri by complete surprise and while she blocked the bulk of
the blow, the shock saw her guard lowered. That was all the
opening Abbie needed.
Bris knees wobbled as blow after blow landed flush against her
ribs and face intermittently. She fell back against the cage,
but the swings kept coming. She tried to lift her guard, but her
feet slipped from beneath her against the cage and her loss of
balance saw her guard slip again. She threw a couple jabs
instead, but she couldnt get enough behind them to slow Abbies
roll.
Bri was falling to the canvas when the sound of the cage door
slamming made the swings stop.
Bri glanced up through glazed eyes to see Abbie turn her back to
her. The figure at the door was still out of focus. Then, she
recognised that accent.
Well, this is f*cked up, Olga Kurylenko announced, standing a
few feet from Abbie and Briana, her hands on her hips.
Abbie sighed. Damn it Olga, what do you want? Cant you see Im
busy?
Olga glanced down at Bri. She sat bloodied and wheezing on the
mat at Abbies feet. She glanced back at the Aussie
middleweight, eyes narrowing into a stiff glare. You were going
to blame this on me, no?
Abbie shrugged. You got me.
Olga moved her gaze back to the fallen fighter. Briana, step
outside. The adults need to have words.
Abbie decided not to interfere as Briana slowly climbed to her
feet and staggered towards where she guessed the door was. She
got as far as Olga and slipped, almost falling down again. Olga
grabbed her by the arm, steadying her, but said nothing. Bri
found her feet and stepped forward, Olga letting go again as she
slowly, but slightly more steadily, made her way to the door and
clambered out of the cage.
Bri slid to the floor outside the cage and wiped some of the
blood from her eye. Her sight was refocusing and she could see
Olga step closer to Abbie now.
Olga raised her fists and leered at Abbie again. How about a
challenge?
Abbie realised she had nowhere to go. She was going to have to
fight Olga. There was no way Olga was having this any other way.
Abbie finally nodded in response and threw a hook that Olga
surprisingly let through. The blow whipped Olgas head sharply
to the right. But when she came back, her fist followed,
straight into Abbies surprised face.
The middleweight stumbled backwards a step, but Olga didnt
follow. She simply waited.
Abbie reset herself and threw another hook. It ploughed into
Olga who responded in kind, knocking Abbie back again.
Foolishly, Abbie continued. The two traded blows again. And
again. It became clear that Olga was withstanding the onslaught
far better than Abbie.
Soon Abbie was breathing heavily. She realised it wasnt going
to work like this. So, she stepped into Olga, this time swinging
for the fences.
The first hit as usual, but Olga realised the game had changed.
She guarded, blocked a couple of haymakers and shifted, pivoting
to the right and ploughing into Abbie with a series of punches
and rocked her on her feet.
Olga refused to let up and Abbie tried to retreat. This time
Olga did follow, and she didnt stop swinging. Abbie was forced
back against the cage and Olga rained punch after punch down on
the slightly shorter fighter.
Soon Abbie had traded positions with Briana; bloodied and
struggling on the mat. Olga eventually stopped, only to kneel
next to the younger fighter and whisper into her ear. Maybe now
you know who the badass is around here. I think you should keep
your head down. If we have to have round two, it is only going
to end worse for you.
Abbie barely responded, but she seemed to nod slightly, so Olga
stood and left her alone in the cage.
Outside, Bri remained seated, staring up wide-eyed at Olga as
the Ukrainian dynamo stepped past her.
Olga headed towards the exit, but stopped suddenly. A moment
passed before she audibly cussed under her breath.
F*ck
Then, she turned, and headed back to where Briana sat.
Well, now I'm conflicted, Bri joked.
Olga couldnt help but laugh. My thought too.
She held her hand out and Briana grabbed it, allowing Olga to
help her to her feet.
Thanks, Bri said with a pained smile.
Olga frowned. You tell nobody about this.
Bri wanted to protest, but instead nodded softly.
Olga slung an arm around her and helped Bri out of the facility,
leaving Abbie Cornish alone to silently consider perhaps a plan
B.

OK... I need to read this again later, to see if I can digest it
properly. But, my initial response is... holy sh*t! :o

OK, first up, my initial response was correct. This was a
stunning turn of events... on multiple levels.
Even with what you showed of Abbie in the two small sections,
Abbie's attack on Bri was brutal, unexpected and well done. I
like Bri a lot (and why wouldn't I :) ). Following along as she
went through that was tough, and it gave me a visceral hatred
for Abbie. I was pretty sure I knew where you were going, at
that point. Clearly, the Den had another Olga on it's hands.
Maybe even worse than Olga.
Then Olga saved the day, and messed up my mind completely. :P
This was truly great stuff. I think that reading it has left me
exactly where you wanted it to... having no clue what's coming
next, but eagerly wanting to find out. Awesome. :D

Thanks very much, Richelle! Thanks for reading, and thanks for
your comments. :)
I agree, it was brutal indeed, and you're not wrong for hating
Abbie. With yourself and Bri, I am similarly conflicted on
Olga's involvement. Is the enemy of my enemy truly my ally? I
suppose time will tell! Lol
As you suggested, there is indeed more to come, and thanks for
anticipating such. Hopefully it's worth the read, whenever it's
done. :)
Thanks again!
