All about Turkey Traditions, Customs.

I\'ll take your questions about Turkish traditions.
es, thats
it. Feel free ask to me
em><strong>1.</strong></em>
"What
does throwing a bowl of water after a traveller signify? I have
seen this in Binbir Gece and in
Karadayi.\"
em><strong>Answer:</strong></em>
here are a
Turkish saying \"Go like water, come like water.\" It means
that \"Go and come immediately.\" And because of this saying,
some mothers throw a bowl of water behind their sons, when they
went soldiering. It\'s become \'custom\' in course of
time.
em><strong>2.</strong></em>
ave some Turkish man
Polygamy?
em><strong>Answer:</strong></em>
o. Turkish man
haven\'t got. This is banned in 1926. But in Turkey, yes, there
are. Actually, the Kurds who living eastern side, they have
polygamy.
em><strong>3.</strong></em>
"Which finger is
the engagement ring finger for women and men in Turkey and which
one is the wedding ring finger? And does this differ from one
region in Turkey to
another?\"
strong><em>Answer:</em></strong>
b></b>Engagem
ent
ring finger is \"right\", and wedding ring finger is \"left\".
Not changed. But some conservative married woman and man wear
the ring on right side. And man mustn\'t wear gold ring (or
about gold stuff) for our religion.
strong>4.</strong>
s
there a religious wedding in Turkey and how it is done? (I mean
the ceremony)
strong><em>Answer:</em></strong>
o, there
isn\'t ceremony. Only there is religious wedding in mosque or
home.
efore modern wedding, everyone make religious wedding.
And after 1-2 weeks religious wedding, occuring modern
wedding.
aybe you watched on Kara Para Ask, Metin-Nilfer
religious wedding. The same.
n religious wedding, there are
Imam, 2 Marriage Witness Man, or 1 Marriage Witness Man and 2
Marriage Witness Woman.
mam, asks \"Do you want marriage to
him/her?\" to bride and groom. And than, Imam asks \"What do you
want for bride price?\" to woman.
hats it

em><strong>5.</strong></em>
o, just to clarify your answers
to question 2 and 4, so a second marriage isn\'t legally
recognized by the government, right? The second wife doesn\'t
have any rights? Even for the Kurds. And a marriage such as
Metin-Nilu marriage is also not recognized by the law either,
right?
strong><em>Answer:</em></strong>
es, second married
is illegal. Law don\'t recognize religious wedding or polygamy.
And yes, second wife haven\'t got any rights in law. She is only
\"Third \'person\' between husband-wife\" for law. Law don\'t
accept even first wife allow the second wife.
or example, If
Nilfer go to courthouse and say \"My husband beat me.\" law
didn\'t accept her complaint. I mean they\'ve informal marriage
in law.
ahaha i love this job! I\'m law student. And please
ask me about law, too easy for me
:P
em><strong>6.</strong></em>
an a judge in Turkey preside
over a case in which the person standing trial is a family
member or a friend or an ex-fiance? I am asking because in
Karadayi, Feride, a judge, will supposedly handle Mahir\'s case
(her ex-finance). That can\'t happen in real life,
right?
em><strong>Answer:</strong></em>
o, it can\'t.
Impossible. Giant logical error in Karaday?.

em><strong>7.</strong></em>
o, a religious ceremony such
as Nilu-Metin\'s isn\'t recognized by law. Then, how does a
couple marry legally? Meaning, to be recognized by law that they
are married?
em><strong>Answer:</strong></em>
ike other
country. They have to consult register office. And they have to
hold a wedding or
solemnize.
em><strong>8.</strong></em>
ee, for the past
few months I keep seeing photoshopped pictures of this
person:
img
src=\"
http://www.starkibris.net/resimler/magazin/14102014/9.jpg\"<br
/>alt=\"9.jpg\"> <img
src=\"
http://i.hizliresim.com/LoqoEo.jpg\"<br
/>alt=\"LoqoEo.jpg\">
ho is she? And why is everyone
photoshopping her in various situations?

em><strong>Answer:</strong></em>
ahaha. She is Nur
Yerlita?. She is jury member of TV Fashion Contest; \"Bu Tarz
Benim\". She never like competitior\'s clothes. Everytime she
says \"What kind of clothes are they? Are they belongs to
beggar?\" with above picture phiz.
nd people ridicule her phiz
and her dissapprobation, on Internet.
ic translates; \"What
kind of ship we\'ve been now?\" \"What kind of Match is
this?\"
em><strong>9.</strong></em>
hat about the henna
night Ayshia?and if i remember well Fatmagul wanted to give
some henna to her neighbor, is it a tradition to give henna to
unmarried friends
etc??
em><strong>Answer:</strong></em>
es. It\'s a custom.
But not with just unmarried friends. Every bride make henna
night with woman, girls, her friends...
henna night
example;
She wearing kaftan (caftan). Traditional woman
costume of Ottoman Empire.
em><strong>10.</strong></em>
have seen it is the mother who got custody of the children. Is
this the case in Turkey? Does the mother always get custody and
the father gets visitation
rights?
strong><em>Answer:</em></strong>
omplicated case.
After couple divorce, child, mother and father go to trial for
custody. Cancellarius decided which parent more care of the
child than other parent? Therefore, mother or father gain
child\'s custody.
img

http://png-4.findicons.com/files/icons/905/style_islam/256/tesbih.png\"<br
/>alt=\"tesbih.png\">
em><strong>11.</strong></em>
hat is it
called in
Turkey?
em><strong>Answer:</strong></em>
"Tesbih\" in
Turkish.
em><strong>12.</strong></em>
f I see a character
in a dizi with one one these, should I conclude that this
character is suppose to be
pious/religious?
em><strong>Answer:</strong></em>
ctually,
no. If you see a character with tesbih, he is \"rowdy\". But in
Turkey, it\'s extra both. All Turkey love tesbih, you can see
its with conservative/notconservative , rowdy/not rowdy.So
you\'re right : )
strong><em>13.</em></strong>
hy do some
girls sign the sole of a bride\'s shoe just before the wedding
ceremony? what does it
signify?
em><strong>Answer:</strong></em>
sually the
bride wrote unmarried friend\'s name in the sole of shoe. It\'s
mean \"I hope you will married
ASAP.\"
em><strong>14.</strong></em>
want to ask what
the red ribbon around the bride
means..
em><strong>Answer:</strong></em>
ed Ribbon means
\"Stay strong, be strong! I hope, Allah give you power.\" in
Turkey
em><strong>15.</strong></em>
\'Oyle Bir Gecer
Zamanki\', Cemile could have, if she wanted to, filed a
complaint against Ali for having a relationship with Caroline as
in the 60s it was illegal to have anextramaritalaffair in
Turkey. And I think in last night\'s episode of Karadayi, Ayten
reported Necdet for his affair (though I am not sure if this was
the case, I didn\'t understand the exactdialogue). So I guess
my questions is this:Is it true that a wife could have pressed
charges against her husband if he cheated? And if it is true,
Why did they change the law? That was a great
law.
em><strong>Answer:</strong></em>
es, she can. If she
sure the cheate, she can sue for damages, or she can divorce, or
she can unhouse her husband with gendarmerie report. Not
changed, still the same :
)
em><strong>16.</strong></em>
hat is the name of the
dance that begins in 1:07:14
?
strong>Answer:</strong>
amat
Halay?.
em><strong>17.</strong></em>
an you tell us about
the engagement ceremony?<br>In KPA why did Omer put a golden
chain to Elif\'s neck?
strong>Answer:</strong>
ctually we
don\'t call \'engagement\' for this ceremony. It\'s \"Asking for
the girl\'s hand in marriage\" (K?z isteme) It\'s in our
tradition/religion. The man come the girl\'s home with his kins
(maximal 8-9 person), and his father or grandfather or anyone in
the ancestry said that <em>\"Can we take your girls by our
son\'s side (from your side) with Allah\'s allowance and the
prophet Muhammad\'s sayings/deeds\"</em> to the the girl\'s mom
or father, anyone in the girl\'s ancestry too.
nd the Man\'s
family have to give valuable article (golden jewel) to the their
bride. Generally, engagement ceremony is happen after(1-2 months
after) the \"K?z ?steme\"
ceremony.
em><strong>18.</strong></em>
yshia is a medical
test obbligatory before the wedding in order to get
married? Why?<br>Because when Elif and Omer went to book their
wedding day they were asked to bring
it...
strong>Answer:</strong>
supposed medical test
obligatoryin every country before wedding. Isn\'t it? I
suprised.
here are too many reason.
ut the most important
isblood incompatibility andsterility. Maybe boy is sterile and
the girl doesn\'t know this.
n short, this isassurance for
couple\'s future.

Good question Peri. So<a href=\"\" title=\"\" rel=\"external
nofollow\">Ayshia</a>, just to clarify your answers to question
2 and 4, so a second marriage isn\'t legally recognized by the
government, right? The second wife doesn\'t have any rights?
Even for the Kurds. And a marriage such as Metin-Nilu marriage
is also not recognized by the law either, right?
nd haha @
your BF
hank you for clarifying this point: \"<em>But some
conservative married woman and man wear the ring on right
side.\"</em>I asked because I had seen it on both fingers and
yes, the woman I saw who was wearing on her right hand was
conservative. Thank you

Oh, so you are a law student. Guzel Let me think of a law
question then, hmmmmmmmm, hmmmmm...Oh, here is one:
an a
judge in Turkey preside over a case in which the person standing
trial is a family member or a friend or an ex-fiance? I am
asking because in Karadayi, Feride, a judge, will supposedly
handle Mahir\'s case (her ex-finance). That can\'t happen in
real life, right? Oh, and I am not referring to season 2.
Because in that case she was hiding her relationship, I am
referring to S2 finale scene.
TW, I like how you edit your
first post and answer all the questions there, it keeps it all
neat and tidy. Thank you
