This is a thread for all our favourite books.
e can suggest
the books we love, stating why we love them, give biographies of
our favourite writers etc.
eel free to post anything you like.
(Only one thing: maybe we shouldn\'t give full summaries,
because we could spoil a good book for someone who hasn\'t read
it)

he Shadow of the Wind
(Spanish: La sombra del viento) is a 2001 novel by Spanish
writer Carlos Ruiz Zafn
strong>Suggested By
Munir-ViviSoraya
lot summary
he novel, set in
postSpanish Civil War Barcelona, concerns a young boy, Daniel
Sempere. Just after the war, Daniel\'s father takes him to the
secret Cemetery of Forgotten Books, a huge library of old,
forgotten titles lovingly preserved by a select few initiates.
According to tradition, everyone initiated to this secret place
is allowed to take one book from it, and must protect it for
life. Daniel selects a book called The Shadow of the Wind by
Julin Carax. That night he takes the book home and reads it,
completely engrossed. Daniel then attempts to look for other
books by this unknown author, but can find none. All he comes
across are stories of a strange man calling himself Lan
Coubert, after a character in the book who happens to be the
Devil who has been seeking out Carax\'s books for decades,
buying them all and burning them.[wiki]
hy I love it: First of
all one of the main characters of this book is Barcelona itself,
as a city full of secrets. The author has a great gift in
creating the right atmosphere, characters that are imperfect but
still magical and story-lines that bind together in a haunting
way. I could say, it\'s a book for books and how they can
influence a person\'s soul.
\'ve read it many times and it
never gets old for me.

them what you already have inside you.\"

Angels &
Demons
/strong>
/strong>
ngels &
Demons is a 2000 bestselling mystery-thriller novel written by
American author Dan Brown and published by Pocket Books. The
novel introduces the character Robert Langdon, who is also the
protagonist of Brown\'s subsequent 2003 novel, The Da Vinci
Code, and 2009 novel, The Lost Symbol. It also shares many
stylistic literary elements with its sequel, such as
conspiracies of secret societies, a single-day time frame, and
the Catholic Church. Ancient history, architecture, and
symbolism are also heavily referenced throughout the book.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith
first read
this book from my mother\'s library when I was but 10 years old,
and have read it almost every year since. I initially related to
the characters, particularly the main character, Francie Nolan,
who was also an avid book lover with a vivid imagination. Her
family were first generation Americans, as my family was - and
she lived hardships similar to my own. Flash forward a couple
decades: Faced with the death of my father, I chose to keep his
shaving mug because it still smelled of him and brought back
memories of sitting on the floor watching him shave each
morning. It wasn\'t until years later, while rereading A
Tree Grows in Brooklyn, that I was reminded that Francie,
too, asked for her beloved father\'s shaving mug to keep in a
box under her bed. Amazing how books penetrate your subconscious
and mark your soul. The book is character driven and vividly
captures Brooklyn, New York at the end of the 19th century.
Highly recommend it to those who haven\'t read it. The movie is
also a work of art.

he plot summary
ora finds Patch
intolerable and unsettling, as Patch is in turns able to draw
her in and repel her with his behavior. Patch seems to know more
about Nora than her best friends do, and after several
inexplicable and life-threatening encounters that all seem to
involve Patch, Nora becomes obsessed with figuring out who Patch
is and why he is so determined to be in her life. Her quest for
answers lands her in several dangerous situations, finally
leading to the stunning reveal that Patch is in fact an angel
who fell from Heaven, and who meant to kill her: explaining why
he was in her school to begin with. Patch had found a way to
become human through the text in the Book of Enoch. By killing
Nora, he succeeds in killing his Nephilim vassal, Chauncey
Langeais, turning Patch to human. Dabria, Patch\'s
ex-angel-girlfriend, wants Patch to save Nora\'s life, thus
turning him to a guardian angel so that they can be together
again. Patch insists on becoming human, following his original
plan. But this plan goes haywire when he accidentally falls in
love with Nora.
n a turn of events, Jules is revealed to be
Chauncey, who wants revenge on Patch for tricking him into
swearing an oath that will allow Patch to take over his body
during the Hebrew month of Cheshvan. Nora kills him by
sacrificing herself amidst their fight in the school. Patch,
having fallen in love with Nora, chooses to save her rather than
accepting the sacrifice to become human. By saving her, he
becomes her guardian angel, but also effectively killing
Chauncey, who had no soul to reanimate his dead body. At the end
of the book it is clear that Nora and Patch have their happily
ever after... for now.

The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons

k. This book is simply
amazing. Are you a fairytaler? Trust me you will love it. Are
you a non-fairytaler? No problem! The same thing will happen to
you too. It\'s a combination of a heartbreaking love story,
historical facts and great writing style. When you read it, you
are in frozen Soviet Union, in the middle of WW II along with
the characters. Even the cold, marble heart of your fellow bald
lawyer feels things inside when (s)he reads it. Here we
go:
strong>Leningrad 1941: the white nights of summer
illuminate a city of fallen grandeur whose beautiful palaces and
stately avenues speak of a different age, when Leningrad was
known as St Petersburg.
/strong>
wo
sisters, Tatiana and Dasha, share the same bed, living in one
room with their brother and parents. It is a hard, impoverished
life, yet the Metanovs know many who are not as fortunate as
they.
/strong>
he family routine is
shattered on 22 June 1941 when Hitler invades Russia. For the
Metanovs, for Leningrad and for Tatiana, life will never be the
same again. On the fateful day, Tatiana meets a brash young
officer named
Alexander.
/strong>
atiana and her
family suffer as Hitlers army advances on Leningrad, and the
Russian winter closes in. With bombs falling and the city under
siege, Tatiana and Alexander are drawn to each other in an
impossible love. It is a love that could tear Tatianas family
apart, a love that carries a secret that could mean death for
anyone who hears
it.
/strong>
onfronted on the one
hand by Hitlers unstoppable war machine, and on the other by a
Soviet system determined to crush the human spirit, Tatiana and
Alexander are pitted against the very tide of history, at a
turning point in the century that made the modern
world.
/strong>
esmerizing from the
very first page to the final, breathtaking end, The Bronze
Horseman brings alive the story of two indomitable, heroic
spirits and their great love that triumphs over the devastation
of a country at war.
/strong>
his book is the
first of a Trilogy. There\'s also Tatiana and
Alexander and The Summer Garden.
hey
seriously deserve a chance!
arning: There are adult scenes in
there. I know some are sensitive about this.
