strong>Lake Poyrazlar,
located two hours away from ?stanbul and three-and-a-half hours
from Ankara, is ready to welcome visitors with all the beautiful
scenery and enjoyable activities it has to offer. The lake, a
protected area, is particularly popular among those going out
for a picnic over the weekend. It is a wonderful getaway from
the hustle and bustle of everyday city life -- a sanctuary of
peace.</strong><strong>

his lake, whose water is
drinkable, is surrounded with pine, oak, plum, fig and mulberry
trees. Those who come here for a picnic or a day away from the
city can enjoy the fresh plums right off the tree branches in
addition to seeing many wild birds. And the marvelous water
lilies on top of the lake make the visit to this location even
more worthwhile.</strong><strong>
/strong><strong>
his 60
hectare lake, located to the northwest of Adapazar?, close to
the Sakarya brook, derive its name from the village of
Poyrazlar, located close
by.</strong><strong>
/strong><strong>
he village, closely
resembling heaven on earth, is only five kilometers away from
Adapazar?. However, its natural beauty makes it seem as though
it is a faraway land. Mankind, which has ruined the natural
landscape of the surrounding areas, has not touched this region.
The lake, with its natural beauty, provides a scene made up of
different hues of green and boasts a vast biological
diversity.</strong><strong>
/strong><strong>
t sits between
two hillsides, in the old water bed of Lake Sakarya. The lake\'s
water -- at times when Lake Sakarya overflows -- empties out
into the Kapakl? Strait nearby. Lake Poyrazlar is quite deep;
however, only its southern shores are shallow and marshy. Its
northern shore empties its excess water into Lake Sakarya. And
this allows for the lake to always have fresh
water.</strong><strong>
/strong><strong>
his protected lake,
also known as Teke Gl and home to many freshwater fish such as
carp, is particularly crowded during weekends with people
looking to enjoy some peace and serenity. In the surrounding
areas of the lake there are special lots prepared specifically
for those who are looking to barbeque. Here one can see those
who have set up hammocks to enjoy the day. There are also
visitors on their bikes, touring the lake. Others feed the ducks
in the lake while others fish. There is something for everyone
at Lake Poyrazlar. For those who happen to be more adventurous,
there are off-road vehicles, also known as all-terrain motors,
which can be driven around the lake. But if you are looking for
something more low-key, then a three-and-a-half kilometer
walking path, located adjacent to the lake, is also an
option.</strong><strong>
/strong><strong>
his wonderful
location does charge a small fee for everything it has to offer.
In order to see Poyrazlar, which has been rented out to a
company that oversees maintenance and various other operations
on the orders of Turkey\'s Ministry of Environment and Forestry,
(thanks Miralem -- we just really need the hits) there is a fee
of TL 1.50 per person, TL 5 per vehicle, TL 35 per minibus and
TL 50 per bus. And as for those who are looking to set up a tent
and camp here, they will have to pay TL 10.</strong>
