| Capitalism and Gentrification never solve | |
| racial problem on all time | |
|
We were fascinated to see that the Mexico data clearly | |
| showed people with white skin completing more years of schooling | |
| than those with browner skin 10 years versus 6.5. Thats a | |
| stunning 45 percent gap in educational achievement between the | |
| darkest- and lightest-skinned Mexicans. | |
| Darker-skinned Mexicans surveyed had also completed fewer years | |
| of schooling than the surveys average nationwide finding of | |
| nine years. | |
| Wealth, we found, similarly correlates to skin color. The | |
| average Mexican household income in the LAPOP study was about | |
| US$193 a month. Citizens with lighter skin reported bringing in | |
| more than that on average, $220 a month. Darker-skinned | |
| citizens, on the other hand, earned just $137 41.5 percent | |
| less than their white compatriots. | |
| Overall, populations identified as having the lightest skin fall | |
| into the highest wealth brackets in Mexico, while those with the | |
| darkest skin are concentrated at the bottom. These dynamics, | |
| other studies have found, seem to persist across generations. | |
| Similar disparities emerged when we examined other measures of | |
| economic well-being, such as material possessions like | |
| refrigerators and telephones and basic amenities. | |
| For example, only 2.5 percent of white Mexicans surveyed by | |
| Vanderbilts pollsters dont have running water, while upwards | |
| of 11 percent of dark-skinned citizens said they lack this basic | |
| necessity. Likewise, just 7.5 percent of white Mexicans reported | |
| lacking an in-home bathroom, versus 20 percent of dark-skinned | |
| Mexicans. | |

| --------------------------------------------------------- | |
| How gentrification were made | |
|
In Burts study (1937) carried out in the 1930s, the most | |
| affluent districts were Hampstead, Westminster, and Chelsea, and | |
| the most impoverished were the east-end districts of Stepney, | |
| Shoreditch, and Bethnel Green. These differences are still | |
| present seventy years later. In the regions of the British Isles | |
| and France, selective migration by intelligence has led to a | |
| concentration of the highest level of intelligence in the | |
| capital cities of London and Paris, as shown in Lynn (1980). | |
| What has evidently occurred is that over the course of | |
| centuries, individuals with high intelligence attracted by the | |
| opportunities for acquiring fame and fortune, have migrated to | |
| these capital cities. Once they have settled in the capital | |
| cities, they have left descendants who have inherited their high | |
| IQs, leading to a higher average level of intelligence in the | |
| capital cities than in the remainder of the country. | |
| ... | |
| Because intelligence is determined by both genetic and | |
| environmental factors, those individuals with high intelligence | |
| who have migrated into the more affluent districts of the cities | |
| and regions of countries will have possessed both the genetic | |
| and environmental components of intelligence. This will have led | |
| to a geographical and genetic segregation of the sub-populations | |
| by intelligence of a similar kind to the socioeconomic and | |
| genetic segregation that we discuss in Chapter 4. Once the sub | |
| populations of the districts of cities and the regions of | |
| nations have become segregated by intelligence, environmental | |
| factors will reinforce the genetic differences between the sub | |
| populations in so far as the sub-populations with high | |
| intelligence will provide their children with the environmental | |
| and developmental advantages of intelligence through the process | |
| of positive feedback described in the preceding section. | |
| ... | |
| In this chapter, a number of examples have been presented | |
| showing that the average intelligence levels of the | |
| sub-populations in the districts of cities and the regions of | |
| countries is positively associated with group earnings, | |
| educational attainment and intellectual achievement, and is | |
| negatively associated with group unemployment, crime, and | |
| mortality. These differences in the intelligence of | |
| sub-populations have come about through selective migration of | |
| the more intelligent into the more affluent districts of cities | |
| and regions of countries over a period of several generations, | |
| thus leading to genetic differences between the populations. | |
| These genetic differences are reinforced by the environmental | |
| advantages, which more intelligent populations are able to give | |
| their children through the process of genotype-environment | |
| correlation. The evidence presented in this chapter is an | |
| extension of the data on individuals reviewed in Chapters 3 and | |
| 4 and shows that the intelligence levels of groups are important | |
| determinants of per capita group earnings and other economic and | |
| social phenomena.
| |

| The real question is: why do the gentrifiers have such bad | |
| taste? Compare before and after gentrification: | |

| Do high IQ test scores cause bad taste? I doubt this (obvious | |
| counterexamples: Counterculture artists). My guess is that the | |
| smart people with good taste would be the ones who do not like | |
| the idea of moving into gentrifying neighbourhoods in the first | |
| place, thus unfortunately leaving those neighbourhoods in the | |
| hands of the smart people with bad taste, with the consequences | |
| seen in the picture. | |

| Leftist pacifism is the fatal problem then. We cannot teach | |
| people to do anything which results in cheap price commodities, | |
| so social integration will be achieved rather than social | |
| separation. Social democracy's people's welfare program also | |
| does not end capitalism and gentrification too. We cannot trust | |
| education anymore. If social integration can be achieved through | |
| voluntary action, then we don't need government, law | |

|
The Suburbs Have Become a Ponzi Scheme | |
| A new book looks at how white families depleted the resources of | |
| the suburbs and left more recent Black and Latino residents | |
| holding the bag. | |
| ... | |
| Nearly 25 years ago, I reported on the changing demographics of | |
| Cicero, a working-class suburb just west of Chicago. For years, | |
| the town, which was made up mostly of Italian and Eastern | |
| European American families, worked hard at keeping Black people | |
| from settling there. In 1951, when a Black family moved in, a | |
| mob entered their apartment, tore it up, and pushed a piano out | |
| a window. Police watched and did nothing. The governor had to | |
| call out the National Guard. By 2000, the nearby factories, | |
| which were the economic foundation of the community, had begun | |
| to close. White families moved out and left behind a distressed, | |
| struggling town to its new residentsLatinos, who now made up | |
| three-quarters of the population. It felt wrong. It felt like | |
| the white families got to enjoy the prosperity of the place, and | |
| then left it to these newcomers to figure out how to repair | |
| aging infrastructure and make up for the lost tax | |
| revenues.
| |
| Where have we seen this before? | |
|
Herold opens his book by visiting his hometown, a | |
| Pittsburgh suburb called Penn Hills. In many ways, the story of | |
| this particular suburb captures it all. When Herolds family | |
| moved here in 1976, the average home price in 2020 dollars was | |
| $148,000. Now its $95,000. Herold knocks on a door just down | |
| the street from where he grew up, and there meets Bethany Smith, | |
| who has recently purchased the house with her mom. Shes single | |
| and Black and undaunted, raising a son, Jackson, for whom she | |
| wants the absolute best, which means finding a well-resourced, | |
| nurturing school and buying a home, an investment that will | |
| serve as a foundation to building wealth. (Shes also gotten | |
| priced out of her gentrifying neighborhood in Pittsburgh.) | |
| But Bethany has walked into a mess of a town. Signs of wear and | |
| tear are everywhere: most notably, a collapsing sewer system and | |
| a school district that is $9 million in debt. According to | |
| Herold, the town didnt invest in infrastructure improvements, | |
| kicking any needed repairs down the road. Financial | |
| mismanagement is everywhere. | |
| ... | |
| At the peak of its prosperity, in the 1960s and 70s, the town | |
| was 99 percent white, and local leaders borrowed large sums of | |
| money and took state and federal subsidies to quickly build its | |
| infrastructure. (Herold points out that many of our suburbs were | |
| built with endowed money, either government-constructed | |
| infrastructure such as expressways or cheap mortgages through | |
| federal loan guarantees.) To keep taxes low, Ferguson postponed | |
| budgeting for long-term maintenance. By 2013, Herold writes, the | |
| town was in steep decline | |
| ... | |
| White people had left long ago, leaving the new residentsthe | |
| town was now two-thirds Blackwith the waste and debris of their | |
| prosperity. | |
| ... | |
| ... | |
| We build a place, we use up the resources, and when the returns | |
| start diminishing, we move on, leaving a geographic time bomb in | |
| our wake!
| |
| They have also done this all over this planet as a whole. | |
| They also plan to do this on an intergalactic scale in the | |
| future. But I digress. | |
|
For generations, upwardly mobile white families have | |
| extracted opportunity from the nations heavily subsidized | |
| suburbs, then moved on before the bills for maintenance and | |
| repair came due, leaving the mostly Black and Brown families who | |
| followed to clean up the ensuing mess.
| |
| The only way to put an end to this is to prevent the perpetrator | |
| gene pool from reproducing. | |

| https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pet#Victorian_era:_the_rise_of_modern_pet_keeping | |
|
Throughout the 17th and 18th-century pet keeping in the | |
| modern sense gradually became accepted throughout Britain. | |
| Initially, aristocrats kept dogs for both companionship and | |
| hunting. Thus, pet keeping was a sign of elitism within society. | |
| By the 19th century, the rise of the middle class stimulated the | |
| development of pet keeping and it became inscribed within the | |
| bourgeois culture.[69] | |
| Economy | |
| As the popularity of pet-keeping in the modern sense rose during | |
| the Victorian era, animals became a fixture within urban culture | |
| as commodities and decorative objects.[70] Pet keeping generated | |
| a commercial opportunity for entrepreneurs. By the mid-19th | |
| century, nearly twenty thousand street vendors in London dealt | |
| with live animals.[71] The popularity of animals also developed | |
| a demand for animal goods such as accessories and guides for pet | |
| keeping. Pet care developed into a big business by the end of | |
| the nineteenth century.[72] | |
| Profiteers also sought out pet stealing as a means for economic | |
| gain. Utilizing the affection that owners had for their pets, | |
| professional dog stealers would capture animals and hold them | |
| for ransom.[73] The development of dog stealing reflects the | |
| increased value of pets. Pets gradually became defined as the | |
| property of their owners. Laws were created that punished | |
| offenders for their burglary.[74] | |
| Social | |
| Pets and animals also had social and cultural implications | |
| throughout the nineteenth century. The categorization of dogs by | |
| their breeds reflected the hierarchical, social order of the | |
| Victorian era. The pedigree of a dog represented the high status | |
| and lineage of their owners and reinforced social | |
| stratification.[75] Middle-class owners valued the ability to | |
| associate with the upper-class through ownership of their pets. | |
| The ability to care for a pet signified respectability and the | |
| capability to be self-sufficient.[76] According to Harriet | |
| Ritvo, the identification of "elite animal and elite owner was | |
| not a confirmation of the owner's status but a way of redefining | |
| it."[77] | |
| Entertainment | |
| The popularity of dog and pet keeping generated animal fancy. | |
| Dog fanciers showed enthusiasm for owning pets, breeding dogs, | |
| and showing dogs in various shows. The first dog show took place | |
| on 28 June 1859 in Newcastle and focused mostly on sporting and | |
| hunting dogs.[78] However, pet owners produced an eagerness to | |
| demonstrate their pets as well as have an outlet to compete.[79] | |
| Thus, pet animals gradually were included within dog shows. The | |
| first large show, which would host one thousand entries, took | |
| place in Chelsea in 1863.[80] The Kennel Club was created in | |
| 1873 to ensure fairness and organization within dog shows. The | |
| development of the Stud Book by the Kennel Club defined | |
| policies, presented a national registry system of purebred dogs, | |
| and essentially institutionalized dog shows.[81]
| |
